It's Hump Day, and Laura Ingalls Wilder's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I was going to wear Yves Saint Laurent M7, which I used to think was too masculine to wear out of the house. But I can't find it. I'm in Tom Ford Oud Wood, close enough.
Reminder: 2/9 will be Broadened Horizons Friday...wear a fragrance you initially thought was too [insert adjective] for you to wear. Suggested by Geordie.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Kate Moss and Zoe Kravitz for Saint Laurent Spring 2018.
Good Girl Gone Bad…that’s me 🙂
Very sweet/fruity on my skin and not at all what I was expecting based on the name.
I love this one! On of my favorite By Killian
I have never once sniffed any By Killian…I need to get on it!
Broadened Horizons Friday…Coco Noir in the parfum version.
I didn’t like the EDP version but this one hits the spots, and I was about to pass it up.
My baby Buddha has a fever today and is currently sleeping on the couch. Tis the season! Trying to keep crazy monkey occupied and we have listened to counting stars by one republic about 200 times this morning while painting..good grief!
Matcha Latte this morning and watching the snow come down
Sending healing wishes to baby Buddha!
My youngest ran a fever for 4 days last week, ‘‘tis the season unfortunately.
Do you have a recipe for Homemade Playdough? I always break that out when the grandkids need a “quiet” activity.
Hope the nap will break the fever — good luck to you both!
Hope baby Buddha gets better quickly!
Thinking of sweet baby…hope it passes soon!
feel better baby Buddha!
Thanks all, he is still feverish and the other is at school so it will be snuggles for the rest of the day
Wearing Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EDP.
* Mmmm* You smell so good! (Sniffs deeply)
Thank you!
Iris Noble is pretty. I tried it recently when I was in a perfume shop while on vacation. You smell lovely.
Which concentration did you try (EDT, EDP)? I have both and like both, but I think of EDT as “the pretty one” and of EDP as “the sexy one”. 🙂
They really do smell very different.
I think it was the EDP. I didn’t have much time as the perfume shop was in a location that was part of a group tour. We only had 20 minutes.
I recommend trying EDT too, when you have a chance. Very different, as ScentSpirit pointed out.
Vintage Diorella. A masterpiece! I waited for a long time to finally buy a bottle but as soon as it arrived, I put some on. Yep, perfect.
Have a great day, everyone.
I imagine you smell fantastic! That’s the vintage Dior I’m most interested in – did you get it on eBay?
It’s spectacular stuff! I do watch for it on EBay, yes. I’m sure you could find a little 10ml mini to try!
have you tried the current formulation?
I have. I don’t mind it but a new bottle is about the same cost as a vintage bottle on Ebay. Vintage is definitely more mossy, more balanced. I wouldn’t sneeze at the modern one, though. That’s the only reformulation Dior hasnt botched, in my tiny opinion.
The best! Congratulations and happy Diorella day.
Ha, thank you!
Yay.
😀
I don’t think I’ve tried any Diors but I think this is one that people mention in the same breath as Le Parfum de Therese, correct? If so I really need to get on it.
I thought this one is what they call the female version of Eau Sauvage?
They are similar, though Roudnitska claimed Diorella was born from Eau Fraiche, not Eau Sauvage. I haven’t tried the latter, but there is definitely a link between Diorella and Eau Sauvage.
You’re both right! All three were composed by Edmund Roudnitska, and they smell like perfume siblings or cousins. (Although that does not apply to the current formulation of Eau Sauvge.)
Yes, cousins — agree.
Yes! I’ve never smelled PdT but I’m drying to. I’ve heard Diorella is a little more… exuberant, I guess?
Diorella is more unisex, maybe? For some reason I’m thinking it’s in the same register as Chanel No. 19. Le Parfum de Therese is decidedly womanly; he composed it for his wife. It’s much fruitier, with a ripe melon kind of note that does not come from Calone (I think). It’s in all three, but comes the fore in in LPdT.
That is the best! I haunted ebay for over a year before I found my bottle – totally worth it. You smell divine!
I’m actually a bit miffed right now. The sprayer is verry ineffectual and most off the juice dribbles out the side. Just old products, I know. Luckily I angel great, just looking a bit silly rubbing a wet bottle against my neck!
Ha – and mop up any moisture with a handkerchief ! Thank you for your comments above – dipping into vintage waters, but it’s very intimidating – taking my time – thanks again
My pleasure. I wear a lot of vintage perfume because I tend to hunt for it in my local antique stores. It’s daunting though. Nothing is as it seems.
My bottle of vintage Diorella has the exact same problem. I have wanted to decant it a million times, but the atomizer is dead. To wear it, I have to take the little spray nozzle off, turn the bottle upside down, and bam it against my forearm. Disappointing and makes one appreciate vintage splash bottles.
I did something similar today. Ironically I’ve been living off a 30ml splash and really wanted an atomizer. It looks too big for the refillable ones but we’ll see how desperate I get.
Some hot soapy water, rubbing alcohol, and q-tips might get that sprayer back in order.
Sadly, I think the spayer has a crack. I’m contemplating trying to fill the crack. Might have to bring it to a mechanical engineer friend.
I don’t know what your sprayer is like, but I have successfully decanted non functional spray bottles by cutting the sprayer off with metal cutting tools. (I have small ones for beading that look like the plier-shaped toenail clippers.) You’re metal engineer friend might be able to get into it, then you could pour it out into another bottle.
I’m honestly not sure. Theplastic tube works, but there’s a crack right where the head attaches. So I think instead of sending the liquid through with pressure, it just comes down the cap and out the top. Bah!
Vintage perfume for life, though. 😉
You smell great! Congratulation on your new bottle.
I’m in one of my new MFK samples from Luckyscent: today it’s Amyris pour Femme, lemony goodness.
Amyris Femme confused me. It was very soft and musky on my skin, sadly nothing of note. I’d be willing to try it again though!
I feel that way too. Not offensive, but not super memorable either. I prefer it to the other new sample I’ve got left (sneaked a sniff), APOM pour femme. The orange blossom of that one seems too shrieks.
In Theorema. It was a good companion commuting to work early this morning and it will be on this super busy day that I have in front of me. Coffee, coffee and more coffee!
You smell gorgeous. Hope your busy day passes quickly!
Thank you! Half a day already!
????
Coffee is my best friend. Hope your busy day goes by fast!!
Hey Coffee is MY bestie! 😉
Thank you! I hope so!
Laura Ingalls Wilder, oh how I loved those books! I still have a set like this that I have passed down to my own girls:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Boxed-Little-House-on-the-Prairie-Set-Yellow-Box-Good-Books-Very-Goo/122929531434?hash=item1c9f2bca2a:g:31gAAOSwdW1Z6~5m
SotD is Dame New Musk. Lovely and easy to wear.
Happy Hump Day everyone!
Wow, that’s impressive!
I had that exact boxed set! They are somewhere in my mom’s garage. I doubt I could could get 1/2 that asking price for them….they were in ‘extremely well loved’ condition, last I saw them.
Mine, too. Not *quite* to the point of pages falling out, but close.
That is an gorgeous book set that I might be interesting in getting. I still watch the Little House in the Prairie on tv anytime I have the chance. Since I was a kid I have always loved it!
my sister had the books, but I watched the shows 🙂 the episode comments on IMDB are pretty funny
WOW. Yes. That book set. I remember the exact Christmas when it appeared under the tree and I can even remember what my name looked like, scrawled on the top.
love that 🙂
Happy to see Zoe Kravitz. There is a scene in Big Little Lies where she sings an Elvis song and it is AMAZING. Beautiful and talented.
Ineke Idyllwild today. The bottle just looked so inviting this morning I could not resist.
East coast weather is atrocious so hope everyone is safe out there.
Idyllwild was one of my favorite releases of 2017. You smell fab!
You smell great, Idyllwild is lovely!
I gave my sample to my mother when she was lying in hospital.
So I tried it only one time, but I think I need to order a new one. Because in my mind I made Idyllwild the perfect candidate for a ‘safe-for-office-no-brainer’-scent in spring/summer.
I think if I had a bottle of that I would wear it a lot.
Agree on Zoe Kravitz!
I am still totally clueless about what to do with this weeks theme.
Robin, you smell awesome in Oud Wood!
You are scent twins with my husband today.
I am wearing vintage Opium perfume.
Late afternoon already here, switching from coffee to tea…’golden lapsang souchong’ from a local shop/brand (Simon Levelt).
Family twins! Vintage Opium is the grandmum to my Opium Fleur de Shanghai.
Ah, hey wife-of-twin!
Annick Goutal Mandragore Pourpre
Oh, that’s a good one. One of five scents on my rotation list this month.
You smell great!
A good tonic for cold weather! You smell great!
First day back after 5 days off. ????
However, I’m wearing Naja and I smell AWESOME (courtesy of a very generous NSTer)!
Happy Humpday!
Naja is an amazing scent
Time off flies by so quickly!
Oud Wood is similar to M7? Must Try. I’m watching a very serene sunrise this morning in OJ Woman. No broadened horizons for me today – I like this horizon right where it is.
Sunrise and OJ Woman, perfect start of the day!
Perfect morning. You smell wonderful!
Similar — probably a bit toned down?
Taking a risk and wearing Robert Piquet Rose Perfection. My sinuses seem a bit better, so wanted to wear something pretty. I initially thought this was too perfume-y for me; something that reminded me of the too-heavy scents I associated with my grandmother’s generation. But it really grew on me and now I really like it.
You do smell pretty! I had the same reaction to RP when I tried it a few years ago but when I retried it last year, I really liked it. It was between that and Calypso and I ended up with Calypso which I love, but I think RP would have more seasonless. Maybe I’ll add it one day…
I had a teeth cleaning this morning, so I put on Demeter’s Holy Water.
That’s a great one! Demeter has some real winners!
Try mixing that one with Holy Smoke – they meld wonderfully
That’s a great idea. I have both, so I’ll try it.
I’ve cultivated a sub-collection of ‘grab one and go’ scents for mornings when I’m in too much of a rush to give a lot of thought to what I should wear; they’re all office-friendly and fairly versatile. This morning’s winner of the “I’m late! I’m late!” sweepstakes was L’A 60 Mirabilis, the rooty-woody-incensey one in the recent Natura Fabularis collection.
I did learn over the weekend why this collection has disappeared from L’Artisan’s website and is not being restocked by retailers. Apparently there has been a trademark infringement challenge to the bottle for this collection – more specifically, it appears, the pretty gold metallic bee attached to the rounded black bottles – so L’A is making a packaging change. Since the Natura Fabularis bottles are 75 ml, and the regular L’A octagonal bottles are 50/100, I’m wondering if they’ll simply keep the black round bottles for NF, but just remove the bee? Don’t know how many of the ‘bee bottles’ are out there in circulation, but once the remaining inventory is gone from the retailers, the ‘bee bottle’ will be extinct, so to speak, so if you like the bee, grab one while you can, lol. The shop I spoke with didn’t know when they would receive inventory with the new packaging, or if there would be any change in volume or price.
Shoot, I wish I had bought a bee bottle of Violaceum when I had the chance.
{Wearing enabler hat} Luckyscent, Aedes, and Barneys still have inventory, if you want the bee bottle 😀
{sits on hands}
Thanks for the hot tip! According to the reviews, the ones that most interest me are Tenebrae, Mirabilis and Violaceum, but reviewers say none of those have much projection or longevity. What is your take on the performance?
The “bee bottles” are so incredible. They catch my every time.
Wearing Lyric today. I haven’t filed my taxes yet and I am tearing out my hair. H&R Block is quoting my refund $3 higher than Turbo Tax and I almost wasn’t able to find my checkbook. I like my refund directly deposited into my account, I’m waiting for no stinking check in the mail. Right now, I am shopping for my sister’s birthday gift.
The numbers should be the same. I’d check for a numerical entry error in one or the other, or maybe you forgot to enter something entirely? PS – last year’s return should have your routing & account number, which you could copy over to this year.
While I agree with you about the numbers (and personally I wouldn’t be even spending time on filling data in more than one software), does the $3 difference really matter to spend any more time on checking for it? Even in case of audit she won’t be penalized too much if she gets those extra $3, unless I’m overlooking something obvious.
Safran Troublant and a russet-colored sweater dress to keep warm on this snowy day.
I don’t know which I covet more, your dress or that wonderful scent 🙂
I do love a good sweater dress! I have on a forest green one today. You look and smell great.
Micallef Vanilla Orient. It’s like the never-ending sample — I keep picking it up thinking I’ll finally finish it off but it never empties.
I had a sample of that and put it away… like, FAR away, far enough that I have no idea where it is. I think it was the one from that series that I kind of liked, though.
I kind of like it too but you know what, Boyfriend was better!
That was my afternoon scent yesterday! I’m trying to decide if I need to part with my bottle or not. For the first hour I was unimpressed (again) but it seemed to open itself up to me as it wore on. I want to do a side by side with Spirteuese though I suspect they’re quite different.
I def like Spiriteuse better. The Micallef is more aggressive somehow.
haven’t tried the Vanille Orient but it sounds good. I have their Vanille Oud, which is not very oudy but quite potent.
I couldn’t decide what to wear for wintry mix day so I have Piguet Calyspo on the back of one hand, and Opium Fleur de Shanghai on the other. I ended up with the Opium in the end. So far, the weather is fairly tame, thank goodness, but dreary nonetheless.
* dances and sings * ‘We are family’ 🙂
So how is Opium Fleur de Shanghai different from grandma Opium?
I never got the chance to smell OFd S, because it was released in a period when I did not even know about the word ‘flanker’ (my pre-perfumista phase).
I think it smells more like original Opium than the current version, IIRC. It’s a less dense, softer version. I think the floral/jasmine aspect stands out more. But even in its own right, it’s kind of a perfect amber for me: not too sweet, spicy but not too spicy. Maybe even slightly powdery.
Thanks for letting me know,
that sounds good!
Chances are small I will ever get to smell it, but who knows…maybe I’ll bump into it on an online marketplace (though Petunia’s comment below gives me the impression it is not cheap..)
Feel free to email me if you want detail
ls of where I got my decant (Pretsky 35 hot male).
I think if you’re a die-hard vintage Opium lover, it may pale in compsrison. I was never quite comfortable in old Opium, so this version is my perfect, wearable version.
I looked up your SOTD on Ebay since you mention it frequently but the price changed my mind about blind buying. ????
Not sure I’m going to spring for a FB as they are pricey. I’m curious about some of the other d/c flankers, too, and some seem more easily available, like Fleur Imperiale. I got a decant from a woman in Estonia. Email me if you’re interested in details.
Will do this evening.
Stay dry!
Opium Shanghai seems to be a favorite of yours~
I am enjoying it this season!
I’m in Cuir de Russie on the left and Dzing! on the right. Sadly, the leather in CdR left the building in about ten minutes. It’s a lovely citrusy oriental now, but I think I prefer the sustained hum of leather in Dzing!
Y’all stay safe and warm today. ????
Love Dzing! — to me it is the perfect soft leather.
Wearing original Alien today with the matching lotion. I used to think this smelled grapey, probably because of the bottle, but after wearing it and its flankers for so long, I don’t smell grape at all. Funny how the visual can skew smell perception.
I smelled grape soda when I tried Alien too.
I still think it smells grapey! but the original more than the flankers.
very funny! I smelled 100% cloves when I first smelled it, I was surprised it had a lot of Jasmine in it.
I smell grape as well! Will have to pull out my long-neglected bottle (and the leather version too). Thanks for the reminder.
After wearing the flankers, which don’t come in purple bottles, I think I started to smell it in a whole new way.
Alien smells like root beer to me. ????????. Where’s Bear? ????
Now I will have to try and find the root beer note. I miss Bear, I hope he is ok.
Rainy gray day in Atlanta……maybe some spring flowers are getting energized to start popping up soon? 🙂
My 12 yr old son picked Moschino’s Fresh (aka Windex) for me this AM. He’s been grounded for about a week from all of his electronics and gaming, and has to fill his time with other activities. Last night he amused himself smelling a bunch of my perfumes and making fun of all of them….LOL! I can’t say I would have picked Fresh today, but it’s a perfectly OK grab and go….
Parents of teenagers, stay strong! We shall overcome…eventually! LOL! 🙂 https://www.instagram.com/p/Be5p1UNhDX2/?taken-by=jadainga99
Bahaha!! Irreverent sayings done up on cross-stitch are one of my favorite things.
Isn’t this one awesome? HA HA HA HA
Moschino is just fun. I was looking at vintage Moschino on line and there is such a sense of “relevant irreverence” about the clothes. And I love the Moshino Forever and Uomo? For summer nights.
I like ’em too! A lot of the fragrances are inexpensive but pretty good….and always fun!
We’ll hang tough together, JadainGA. These teens won’t get the better of us!
For Broadened Horizons – Mad et Len Petits Papiers
I once would have thought this too dark and/or incense based for me, but I am loving it.
A soft ( as opposed to sharp) incense, with swirls of smoke, benzoin, and what feels to me like vanilla, but isn’t ( according to the notes).
I am a fiend for the actual incense papers, so I blind bought this direct from Paris when Luckyscent ran out so quickly.
Beautiful packaging, including a heavy metal box.!!
That sounds really nice. I particularly like incense with benzoin.
Oh, no — I can’t believe Luckyscent is already out! I almost ordered it when I first read about it…
wow! sounds great
Seconding this!
Ya’ll need to stop mentioning that one.
Glad you got a bottle! As soon as I got wind of it at Luckyscent I ordered immediately as I figured it would sell out (they only had something like 38 bottles to start with). It smells great, the way Guerlain’s Bois d’Armenie used to before they gutted it.
Going bolder than I usually do. Amouage Opus V time!
Niki de Saint Phalle on top of Jai Ose (on Angela’s recommendation).
I’ve been using the Jai Ose as a base for my too-sweet fragrances: Coco Mlle and Arquiste 57 (J. Crew).
Woah! I’m looking for an excuse to buy both Niki dSP and Jai Ose – which one do you like the best, and what might you compare them to?
I wore Niki in the mid to late 1980s and would highly recommend it …back in the day there was nothing else like it….
I can send you a small sample of NdSP if you’d like! It’s a marvelous green–the kind of green you might like if you’re not a fan of green. (I should write down what all I’ll be sending you.)
That would be awesome, thank you Koyel!
I liken Niki to Ivoire de Balmain. Have you sampled that? To me they are closely related.
No, not yet – but I’ll keep that in mind, thanks
Jinx!
Niki is a classic green floral-chypre. I always compare it to Balmain Ivoire EDT, but Ivoire is more soapy-sharp. I actually prefer Ivoire, but I can’t find the old formulation at the discounters anymore, so I wear Niki as a substitute.
I have a 5 ml decant of Niki that I’m happy to share. Email me at sbs15041 at gmail if you like.
Jai Ose is another chypre, but less green, with leather notes. It’s available online for cheap, but honestly I think I got a bad bottle… all the top notes seem to be burned off.
Angela’s review of Jai Ose is awesome: https://nstperfume.com/2017/02/20/guy-laroche-jai-ose-fragrance-review/
Thanks SarahN! Koyel has kindly offered to send me a sample. Thank you for the descriptions – yes Angela‘s post is what got me interested initially!
I wore today’s scent a few times before I realized that I really liked it. SOTD is Tauer’s PHI Une Rose de Kandahar. I haven’t worn it this season so I am enjoying it tremendously today.
Smelling super fab, Petunia!
????
Yum.
It is one of my favorite Tauer’s perfumes. You smell fabulous!
My bottle is missing in action! I know I will find it eventually.
I don’t know how you keep track as well as you do. I hope it turns up soon.
Trying something new from the Freebiemeet! In Amouage Interlude Woman today (applied very lightly), and really enjoying the sweet/warm/leather.
Last night I somehow ended up reading V.’s review of this on BdJ and the comments were really interesting. She wasn’t a fan of it and some people seemed offended by her low rating — and of course it got me so curious that it went on my to-try list.
It kind of reminds me of a more involved and anxious L’A Coeur de Vetiver Sacre if that makes any sense?
You know what, I dug up an old sample of Coeur de Vetiver Sacre and realized that my impressions and perspectives on perfume have totally changed since I tried it years ago. So…there’s not much similar between them!
That’s an odd one, took me a few tries before I fell in love. It smells like ginger ale to me.
Wearing a few dabs of Dior Dune under my shirt. There’s really nothing else like it. It’s keeping me warm on this cold, snowy day.
Perfect on a cold day. Stay warm!
You smell glorious. And you’re spot on, there is absolutely nothing else like it. It is the most peculiar anomaly, no? Still in production, relatively intact through reformulations, yet all but one, maybe two, flankers in its near 30 year history. Truly exquisite and a perfect choice for cold, snowy weather!
That is an anomaly. I couldn’t really tell the difference between my current bottle and a vintage version.
Really? The current and vintage Dune smell very different to me. I don’t care for the current one.
So lovely and perfect on any day, but especially a cold day!
SotM = Iris Ukiyoe
One of my first “iris” loves, I should wear it more often. Off to a dental check up, hoping IU flies under the radar.
It’s bizarrely foggy, and I’m reading The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter. I like it when the weather matches mood of my reading.
Waft on, NST!
Shouldn’t dentists’ offices be “anything goes/loud and proud”? After all, they smell awful (back when I had really bad dentist anxiety, just the smell coming down the hallway when I’d walk in for an appointment would set me off in a panic) and the people working there wear face masks.
(I haven’t actually ever approached a dentist appointment this way, but why not? 😉 ) Either way, you smell lovely.
thanks, kpaint! I forget how much I like Iris Ukiyoe. Just one spritz makes me wonder why I don’t wear it more.
And hee-hee, I tend to agree about the dentist. If the dental drill is coming out, then so is the perfume.
That book is on my Goodreads list. Haven’t pick it up yet, as I’m still on a moratorium from titles in this format. You know the kind… The ______ ‘s ______. Usually identifying a female character in terms of her relationship to a man? I’m sure I’m missing out on some good books, but just can’t.
Do give Alchemist’s Daughter a read when you’re ready. I’m just two chapters in, so far the main characters are all women. 😉
Oh, and this (from a science journalist) made me smile!
https://kottke.org/18/02/ed-yong-on-fixing-the-gender-imbalance-in-his-stories
Yes! I came across this article yesterday.
Mmmm, Tom Ford Oud Wood. My dear, you smell fabulous!
Torrential downpours are on tap for today, 48 degrees fahrenheit / 9 celsius, so I’m in the completely work inappropriate Vivienne Westwood Boudoir. Skank? Perhaps, but I receive compliments, not complaints, when worn. To me, it radiates like one’s skin but better, like, I-love-to-have-fun, better. : ) Reveling in it today and wondering why I don’t wear it more often.
Hey, and so do you — neither of us are work appropriate but you win for skank 🙂
???? True that. ????
Dug out my dab vial of 28 LP from my reference stash this morning after seeing it mentioned so much re Iris Month. Didn’t use enough for the required 8 sprays but it was enough to enjoy briefly, and enough to remind me that much as I appreciate and respect them, I’m just not a Chanel girl at heart. My notes say that others have compared Del Rae Mythique to the 28, but Mythique seemed sooooo much sweeter yesterday, and the 28 is to me of a higher quality. Since the 28 has now left me, I moved on to OJ Sampaquita (custom extrait formulation) which was lovely and is also now mostly gone too unless I seek it out on my wrist. Debating where to go from here…
The 28 smells like money 🙂
Angel for me today, since I was overcome with choice paralysis and couldn’t come up with anything else. The tiniest half spritz is going STRONG.
Angel is a beast, but a lovely beast! 😀
Strong but good!
you smell soooooooo good!
When Angel is good, it is very very good, IMO.
SOTD is Coco elixir for the 3rd day without heat in my library.
I hope Coco elixir is keeping you warm and comfy. You smell great!
awful about the heat – hope it is fixed quickly!. I didn’t have heat in my office (still sketchy) during the recent snow storms – used space heaters, but almost impossible to concentrate!
Good Grief..space heaters?
Ugghhhh. The worst. My library closed when we didn’t have heat for 2 days. Last summer we went all of July without air conditioning. Not fun.
Oh yuck! And double yuck! I hope that the heat in your library is back ASAP!
OMG, no heat? Hope you have a space heater, otherwise I’d go on strike.
A nuclear amount of JM Myrrh & Tonka, thanks to the lovely Oakland Fresca, which means I’m not following the CP at all. This scent isn’t too anything to be in my typical rotation. It’s very yummy. We’ll see how it holds up in the heat this afternoon, but it was perfect for the morning chill.
Just curious… what is a “nuclear amount” of JM Myrrh & Tonka to you?
It must’ve been four or five sprays? It was so much that if i had been in a very small, confined space, I might’ve gotten a headache! It was so much that even though it’s a JM, I can still smell it on my skin now, eight hours later! And my skin eats scent at a good clip.
Howdy! I’m wearing Gourmand Coquin generously supplied by LizzieB.
1.5 hrs subway commute this morning. Folks, the subway issues in NYC are real. Every morning, especially morning! is a new adventure in getting to work.
I understand your pain NYC fellow commuter…. 🙁
Oof. That’s pretty bad. Glad I at least have the ferry as an escape plan.
Funny piece about just that re the MTA in The Onion I read last night. I won’t post the link since it may violate profanity rules here ????
I was just going to mention that piece. It made me laugh out loud. The profanity, though, does prohibit any form of posting. But it did make it even funnier.
Clean link to filthy article:
https://tinyurl.com/y85ml87w
I read a different Onion article about the MTA today! Something about how the MTA reminds users that they can always walk.
Ugh. The NYC Subway is one of America’s crowning acheievments and needs to be treated as such; an overhaul was needed oh about 30 years ago (when I was small)!
More like a clowning achievement nowadays, same as Amtrak! NJ Transit is stellar by comparison but if the bar is set low, one can over-achieve.
Wow. That is unbelievable. At least you smell delicious.
Yikes! That sounds absolutely horrible. I hope that the evening commute is better.
Eeek, so you’ve got your own Commuting Woes!
Boring and back in Stash today. I enjoyed it yesterday and need to focus on using up some of my decants. It goes with my green sweater dress I think lol. Happy Hump Day, all!
Not boring at all. I will wear Stash (oil) for days at a time. It’s easy and fresh and I think perfect for this time of year.
Perfume and sweater pairing! Perfect!
re: Laura Ingalls Wilder, I just started Prairie Fires, which is a biography. It’s really good so far.
(I’ve been doing a focus on one house every two weeks. Today was the day I switch to my next one but I only had the list at work, so I didn’t know what the next house was this morning. But I just entered it into the notes on my phone so it won’t happen again.)
Le Labo Hinoki Shower Gel
Gaiac 10 and a half spritz of Santal 33
TF Guillermo lips and boys
great idea & you smell fantastic
You smell and look fantastic! I like the TF lipsticks but simply cannot spring for them!
Nice combo, you smell great!
It’s snowing outside, luckily I don’t have to go out.
I am wearing the last drops of vintage Caleche soie de parfum and so happy that I finished a bottle, even though it is a mini.
Here is the picture
https://www.instagram.com/p/Be53kHUDaZh/?taken-by=herasukyas
That bottle will hold the essence of that perfume forever, though!
I have a vintage Caleche mini I could send you, email me!
Really, thank you so much, I will email you
What a beautiful instagram feed! Gorgeous!
Thank you
Oh my goodness! Looking at your instagram feed is just amazing. It’s DROOL worthy! You are so talented at layout and design. Your photography is breathtaking.
Thank you so much, I really enjoy taking photos of my bottles.
Vintage Calèche is fantastic, you smell wonderful.
Thank you, we should organize a get together when you come back to Montreal
Most definitely!
I have the exact mini!
Etro Sandalo today, Just Because.
I’m back in California and enjoying the spring weather… sunny, warm, daffodils in bloom… allergies in bloom too… but though I’m glad to have escaped the East Coast Freeze, we need more winter here, and when am I supposed to wear my winter frags if we have Endless Summer???
In dealing with snow followed by sleet and freezing rain (and having to clear a driveway pronto so as to not have it develop into an ice skating ring) I will GLADLY take your endless summer weather 🙂
I will try not to feel too sorry for your winter fragrances!
I feel your pain here in San Diego.
Today I’m wearing Masque Milano Atessa. It’s such a pretty iris.
Haven’t heard of this line. Is the iris more floral/powdery or more rooty/carroty?
SarahN, Masque Milano is an Italian perfume house. LuckyScent describes the notes fir L’Attesa (I spelled it incorrectly in my previous post) as follows:
Italian Bergamot, Moroccan Neroli, Champagne accord, Italian Iris absolute, French Iris Root Butter, Tuberose absolute, Ylang Ylang Madagascar, Sandalwood Mysore, Oakmoss, Leather Accord.
Going by the notes, I should love this scent but I get the same experience as cazaubon.
It’s actually a bit yeasty on me. Not very powdery, more rooty.
wonderful choice!
this computer does not like me. this was meant for Filomena…
Elizabeth, I figured it out.
ran out of house w/o scent, so wearing Stella McCartney from my purse, lovely but not boundary breaking.
I’m glad it’s overpowering my stinky “Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Moisturizer”, blech, this stuff stinks. But, maybe the stinkyness is what makes the wrinkles go away ??
Deodorant PSA – recently purchased Arm & Hammer Essentials Deodorant Unscented. Actually smells like a very light handed dose of citrus & geranium essential oils. And, it works so much better than my Soft & Dry Deodorant. It may not be 100% natural, but it does not have parabens or aluminum.
Sometimes “lovely but not boundary breaking” is just right!
Totally agree about that Neutrogena product. I’ll buy it, remember how overwhelmingly scented it is, stop using it until I forget and repeat the cycle. Not sure why they need to make it that way, especially something that is so close to ones nose. Unless it smells horrible and they’re tring to mask the horribleness.
that’s so funny…I have a friend that does logistical purchasing for the Neutrogena plant for J&J – I am telling her about the stench, maybe she can pass it along, ha.
Hope they’d listen! Though I’m sure whatever focus groups were done found that the scent was fine for a percentage of people.
I have been using the Nivea jasmine pure and natural 24 hr deo for the last 10 years (yup, just the same one) but its much harder to find now at the pharmacy.
Good to know! Im sorry I stuck with my soft and dry for so long, it was worthless
Ok, now “24 hour jasmin” is running through my head to the tune of 24k magic ????
I love deodorant PSAs – I have a cabinet full of deodorant fails! 🙂
I started putting pantiliners in my shirts (when possible). I don’t like Toms or the purple crystal but I don’t want to use any of the “clinical” stuff either… to be continued
HUMPDAY!
1) I loved reading the Little House books when I was a kid; I recently read A Wilder Life, and it is an interesting take from a fan of the series. There is so much there- about a woman becoming a writer and artist, about poverty and grit, about what stories we tell in this country about it’s settling.
2) In Epidor on this foggy, beautiful morning. The sun will come out later and this scent really seems to have the promise of sunshine and honey in it.
3) In skinny jeans, Vans and a big fluffy white blouse because it seemed to be the right thing to wear.
Love your outfit of the day
Thank you Buddha mama!
Wearing Mythique, which I initially thought too fancy/grown up/etc for me, but over a little homebrew sample body oil (Genre) and under jeans & sweater and very rainy skies, it isn’t.
You smell fantastic! I did not think of it as fancy or grown up, hope that does not mean I am too grown up to notice? It can’t be that I’m too fancy.
Good for you! You smell fabulous.
I have a sample of Mythique sitting on my desk. Maybe tomorrow it will get an outing.
In the last of my Lampblack sample with Stash hair oil in my hair. After I wrap up some editing I will head out to the gym. I am pretty heavily scented for the gym, but oh well!
I was going to head to the gym, but weather is keeping me home. Please work out for both of us 🙂
I’m continuing with the quest to find My Perfect Vanilla, wearing Solstice Scents Estate Vanilla.
My “perfect vanilla” is pretty much straight-up vanilla extract (the rich double-strength Madagascar, preferably), without one iota of powderiness. What I want, really, is the long beautiful vanilla-liqueur drydown of TF Tobacco Vanille, without the tobacco part.
Estate Vanilla started off promising, right down to the nose-singeing whiff of alcohol. Ten minutes later it turned into that buttery-oily Yankee Candle vanilla NOPE NOPE NOPE. An hour and a half in, the rancid over-sweetness has abated into a musky vanilla skin scent and it’s nice, but I truly cannot manage an hour’s worth of that oily thing. SIGH.
Dang, maybe I should just give up and wear vanilla extract if I get the urge for it.
I remember reading in the 80s that the model Paulina Poriskova (sp) wore vanilla extract as her fragrance.
If you are really looking for vanilla extract I am going to recommend that you make your own vanilla perfume oil….get some vanilla pods, cut them open and marinate them in any carrier oil (jojoba, almond, grapeseed, etc) and allow it to sit for about four to six months.
Oh, I could! I have some fat beans in the pantry now.
Do you recommend a particular source for carrier oils?
I use Now Essentials which do perfectly fine….you can get them at a health food store or Vitacost. Get the 4oz bottle and add 2-3 beans. What I do is I slice them open length wise so the beans have a chance to escape. After six month you can see the little black beans floating around a golden oil. It looks very pretty in a small clear roll on. You can also add it to perfumers alcohol if you prefer to spray.
Mals, I don’t know what vanillas you’ve tried on Ye Olde Vanilla Queste, but have you tried Tihota? If not, let me know, I’ll send you some.
1) I had a boyfriend who did this- some vanilla extract, a couple of drops of patchouli oil in glycerin and oil. It worked!
I would also suggest maybe Moulinard Vanilla?
Trying Lavanila Pure Vanilla today…
Long live vanilla!
Surprised they have not done any new fragrances — I guess they are focusing on other things(?)
And how are you liking it?
More month of roses in Chanel’s Misia. I’ve been thinking about buying myself my first Exclusif bottle for my b-day (it’s not for several months) and this is in the running, but so are about four other options . . .
what are the other options?
I’ve wanted Eau de Cologne the longest, but it feels like too safe a choice. Also considering Sycomore and Coromandel, with Cuir de Russie as an outside possibility. Misia is very easy to wear and I always get compliments on it, but I’m not quite excited about it, you know?
Re roses, I would recommend sampling Pd’E Le Cri de la Lumière, if you haven’t already tried it. The notes are rose, ambrette, and iris. For some reason, I’m thinking that someone who likes Misia would also like this lovely scent.
Oooh, I will add it to my list!
I’ve started working on family genealogy and am very happy with myself for identifying a relative who appeared only as the initial C in the 1880 census, because a) she appears as a wife, with no maiden name and b) her first name was indecipherable to the person who transcribed it into the text version. It wasn’t clear to me either, but I found it in a son’s later marriage license, with maiden name. I don’t know how much more farther I’ll be able to trace that line, but now I am hooked. Also, I totally lucked out in finding that someone else had already done a detailed, thoroughly documented family tree of one line of my family.
I could wear By Kilian Liaisons Dangereuses for the poll. I initially dismissed it as too pretty to wear. Can a scent really be too pretty? It just didn’t seem like “me.” But I wore it for the Perfume Posse’s seven-day challenge some years ago and came to appreciate the subtlety of this soft plum-rose scent. I only like to wear it in late November-early December normally, but today is like a cold, rainy November day here in the DC area, so might put it on later.
In the last paragraph of Middlemarch there is a piece that might apply to your ‘C’:
But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been , is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.
Ha! Spoiler! Just started re-reading Middlemarch today.
I like that!
Lovely quote and reassuring in some way that even those of us leading unremarkable lives are contributing to its goodness.
How nice! Good for you.
I’m wearing Chypre Mousse today, a scent I was certain would be too green for me but it was love at first sniff.
I think Amouage Myths falls into that category for me. I am definitely not a green chypre person but I really appreciate the drydown of Myths.
Wafting PdN Juste un Reve, thanks to the very generous Lisa D. This smells so different when sprayed! I’ve been eeking out the last of my dabber decant this past couple of months, and I’m thrilled to spray it! Thank you again, Lisa!
Le Labo Iris 39 for me today. It is so prominent and potent that I’m glad I’m working from home today: even half-spray would be probably too much for the office wear – and at home I can fully enjoy it with frivolous 2 sprays 🙂
I won’t tell you how many sprays I wore yesterday ????
My plan is to overspray on weekends 🙂
Yes!! 🙂
You smell amazing! I just love it.
I got the oil version when we were in Vegas last year; might have to go back there to get the perfume!
Thank you!
I tried also a shower gel, and it was also wonderful.
Blind buy week continues…A la Nuit. I thought this might be ‘too jasmine’ for me as I’m not really keen on jasmine perfume. But I had a hankering for the smell of jasmine flowers and luckily the perfume is easier to wear than I anticipated. I sometimes layer it with amber scents and that’s terrific.
A beautiful autumn morning here – blue sky, heavy dew, cool and still. I saw a (female) pheasant on the hill…what a strange beast.
The female pheasants I remember seeing when I was a kid were kind of drab and non-descript. That does not sounds like your critter.
It was big brown and speckly with a gormless expression.
I do remember brown feathers. Never got close enough to see the face on a pheasant, so you are doing much better than I did. They would usually take off in a rush if any people got near them.
Never thought to try A la Nuit with amber… must give it a go.
I’m in En Passant today as I continue to try my darndest to summon spring. Usually this is super faint on me, so I used an additional five or so sprays and that did the trick. And at work, I got the rare fragrance compliment!
You smell great even if spring wasn’t listening!
Heure Exquise for the morning. My son’s fever finally broke and snow day today so he’s a happy camper. (Weird 48 hour fever without any other symptoms). Of course my husband planned business travel so I got shoveling duty!
Heure Exquise, yum! That is one bottle that I always completely forget about. I should wear it soon.
thank God it wasn’t the flu!!!
I have a friend who thought she had a 24 hour bug for the same reason, but it returned a few days later with all the symptoms ???? Hope that won’t be the case for him, but keep an eye out!
Yay for your son feeling better! There is some kind of bug going around in my area, too. Two of my friends are sick this week. 🙁
Not participating in Reminiscence Eau de Patchouli (over last night’s Teint de Neige, which is still wafting quite a bit.) Reminiscence is a brand I don’t recall ever being mentioned here, except once during vanilla week (can’t remember who wore it – sorry!.) I don’t know the first thing about the brand, but do have decants of both the patchouli and vanilla, which I bought from an ebay splitter/decanter. They’re both really nice. That said, I’m trying to get a good read on the patchouli and Teint de Neige is interfering a bit, though they smell great together :).
OH! I’d also meant to mention much earlier this a.m. that Berdoues Assam of India and Somei Yoshino are on sale at Anthropologie for $45!! (25% off $60 – you’ll see the price when you add it to your cart.)
That’s a good price but a couple of weeks ago they were 40% off the sale price and I snagged a bottle of AofI for $35!
I only have samples of this line.
Taking a break from samples, and in Cuir d’Ange today. Such nasty weather out, I wanted soft but leather/suede…
Mmmm. I don’t think I’ve worn that one at all this winter. Must rectify.
I’m wearing New York by Parfums de Nicolaï, an old love by now. It’s wonderful.
I’m again in Arielle Shoshana. Yesterday afternoon I found it fun & fruity but not for me. By evening time, I found it super delicious & definitely for me (maybe the saffron drydown somebody mentioned?).
Today I’m at work, and I’ve decided that it’s definitely a fun, and not work fragrance for me (I teach college students)- I have hard time explaining why, since it has nothing to do with intensity, maybe others have that same distinction? I also don’t feel Eau de Merveilles is work appropriate, but I love it. Jardin sur le Nil – super work appropriate.
I’m like that, too. Work-appropriate is pretty subjective, but I tend to wear things that smell fairly conventional to work. Even that determination is pretty subjective. Same with attire. There aren’t many rules at work other than appearing professional, no jeans or open-toed shoes. Though my coworker showed up to our monthly dept meeting yesterday looking like a mid 40’s Iris Apfel, and she’s the medical director’s daughter!
Same here! I even have clothes that I sort into work vs. non-work, and I think they may well look pretty much the same to other people – but I would love an Iris Apfel co-worker for the spectacle. (well, maybe not every day).
It reminds me of when watching the Oscars guaranteed some outrageous outfits (Bjork as a swan? Gwyneth Paltrow in the see through dress thingie?) and watching them was fun. Now everyone looks tasteful and the same.
Popping by to say hello on a busy work day. I’m enjoying myself in OJ Orris Noir. I find it very similar to OJ Woman. Need to do a side by side comparison again soon. I do love them both but think I prefer Woman.
Have a good day all!
Interesting. I like Orris Noir and I like Ormonde Woman but other that the signature Iso E-Super in both, I don’t smell them as similar. I’ll pay more attention when I wear ON next time (soon, since it’s planned for my Month of Irises project).
You smell nice!
Thanks!
I’m basing that comment on my thoughts when I first tried them both years ago. I think my nose is a lot more refined now so I’m curious how I’ll find they compare now.
SOTD is Pierre Guillaume “Eau Guerriere”.
Notes are aldehydes, aloe, musk, Chichona bark and olibanum.
Almost worth a FB, but indifferent lasting power lets it down
This seems to be the problem with most PG scents to me – lack of longevity. Pity, as he does some interesting stuff.
Nasty weather in my area today. I’ve been giving it the stink eye all day now… I thought I saw some sleet pellets in the flowerbeds before everything changed over to rain. It is much needed moisture, but still. Blech!
SOYD = Dame Cassis, Rose & Sandalwood, from the freebiemeet and Madtowngirl. It’s a sweet, fruity, girly rose on me. Would work well for Valentine’s Day, I think.
SOTD = Dame New Musk. Again a shoutout to Madtowngirl. Thanks again for the goodies!
I was inside the office during most of the precipitation. By the time I got home, there were just a few random piles of snow melting in the rain water.
Dametastic! We were half twins, my SotD was Dame New Musk too! Glad you are enjoying the goodies.????
SOTD = Carner Barcelona D600
I am participating in Undina’s Month of Iris project
Wowzer ! It’s a beautiful blend of iris, vetiver and vanilla!
The reviews of it on Fragrantica are meh, like a less good version of Dior Homme. I need to try it.
Today I spritzed on DSH Iridium. Not sure if my decant has gone off or I just don’t like it. Didn’t even smell like iris to me. So I made up for it with a massive dose of Mancera Choco Violette tonight. 🙂
I would say definitely on par and more unisex and has a great vanilla drydown whereas DIOR Homme is more austere. I may wear it tomorrow. I’ll include D600 in the package!
I just test D600 and really liked it. However I dumped half of a dabber sample down my cleavage but couldn’t smell it after a few hours. I wonder if it is the longevity or if I am anosmic?
I found the Carner stuff struggled to keep up, if you know what I mean. :^)
that sounds really good…i put some vetiver oil in my vanilla wax melt, liked it and started to look for vanilla vetiver scents – i found Aedes de Venustas Grenadille d’Afrique – have you smelled that one?
I have not and will do so the next tine I hit Barneys!
OK cool – keep me posted on your impression!
SOTE is Infusion d’Iris Absolue – many sprays, I lost count after 6!
One more day of work this week, then off for 4 days. Woo hoo!
What the heck! I’d happily sit nearby enjoying your scent bubble. ????
It’s a very nice perfume – you smelled great!
I think I want a bottle of it. But I need to finish decant first.
