Happy Almost-Friday and happy World Braille Day! Is it cold where you are? (See Bomb Cyclones and Polar Vortexes—This Winter's Scary Weather Explained.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a little dab of Chanel Beige, but I am already planning an afternoon in Donna Karan Black Cashmere to warm up.
Reminder: on 1/5, we're doing Color My World...wear a perfume with a color in its name. If you don't have one, tell us what color you think matches your perfume. Suggested by Pyramus.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the brooch is from Chanel's latest Cruise Collection, and features "metal" and cultured freshwater pearls. $1,100.
SOTD is L’Artisan Verte Violette – shy violet in a delicate shade of green.
Nice one! There’s a part of me that wishes I had bought a bottle before it disappeared. When I was first getting into niche perfume, I went to the L’Artisan store in Chicago (jeez almost 12 years ago). Verte Violette was one that I remember liking the most that day.
Beige, twins with Robin
After the comments about Beige yesterday I am afraid to say it was my wedding perfume
Let it Snow ❄️ ⛄️
Simpson and Vail Snikerdoodle tea ????
It’s a gorgeous scent! 🙂
You smelled wonderful on your wedding day!
And I would like some of that tea, please.
Hey twin! And don’t be afraid to say it was your wedding perfume! If we could only wear the perfumes that 100% of the people admired, nobody could wear any perfume at all.
I love Beige, find it uplifting and wearable. Sometimes, one doesn’t need their fragrance to be groundbreaking, just knowing it’s enjoyable is enough for me! So wear what you love!
My wedding scent was Bvlgari’s Eau the Blanc, which garnered many compliments despite it being quiet and under the radar.
wow..I wouldn’t think of that as a wedding perfume but you smelled gorgeous
Why to be afraid now? You have said many times before that Beige was your wedding perfume. Enjoy it! It is really beautiful and one of my favorites Chanel.
Thank you, I am in the new EDP which doesn’t disappoint ~!
Beige is beautiful. Seems like a perfect wedding scent.
Good morning, NST!
SOTD is L’oeillet Louis XIV. It’s been so cold here, I couldn’t bear wearing “color” scents instead of winter warm scents.
USA East Coasters, stay warm! USA West Coasters, I hope the earthquake was not a big problem for you! Everyone else, be well.
We are staying warm
That rattle sure got my day off to an early start (as in startling).
No kidding! Woke me out of a dead sleep too!
SmokeyToes was sleeping on my head for the rest of the evening! 🙂
Ah, but since oeillets are carnations, and carnations are also called “pinks,” so by the transitive property of perfumery…I’m pretty sure you nailed the theme today anyway. 🙂
Good call!!!
Ha! Made me laugh out loud.
I like how you think!
SOTD is a old favorite Oscar by Oscar de la Renta. A great combination of pepper and mandarin orange.
I love Oscar! You smell wonderful.
Beautiful !
I love Oscar! You smell fantastic!
Excellent choice, Oscar is always on point.
Ummagumma goodness again.
I’ve have really been enjoying UmmaGumma.
Isn’t it great? Do you get mostly incense? Or is the chocolate strongly present on your skin?
The chocolate is not strong for me but it reminds me of a an old tobacco shop from my youth.
I get mostly incense, no chocolate.
Chocolate & incense? Ooooh, i’ve got to try that!
Wearing Angel Liquer de Parfum, the second one. I bought it blind and though I like the structure of it, it’s not my favorite Angel. It has kind of a tropical fruit caramel thing going on and it kind of smells like one of its own imitators. This one may be up for swap later.
LOL at “it kind of smells like one of its own imitators” — I suppose that’s true and I suppose that’s why I like it better than Angel!
I’m your cousin today in Angel Muse. 😀
I wish i got caramel, I get alot of honey. It’s a bit challenging for me to wear.
Wearing Au Dela Narcisse today…went to grab Feu Secret but picked up Au Dela instead. I have more “color” named scents that I realized.
It has been very cold here…between 5 and 10 degrees during the past week.
Love that one! You smell great! Hope you don’t have to go out into the frigid weather!
We have come out of a distinctly chilly polar vortex just in time to be hit with the worst of the forecast weather bomb.
As long as the power stays on, everything will be OK.
Wearing Black Flower Mexican Vanilla hair oil and the golden glow of Santa Maria Novella Acqua di Cuba, a spicy lemony tobacco scent.
MY thoughts exactly: please, please, don’t let the power lines go down!! Wind is whistling by my office window right now, so not a good sign.
Stay safe and warm!
crossing fingers the power hangs in there for you!
The SMN Cuba is a nice one!
I think amber is a colour, at least real amber has a colour, so today I’m wearing Ambre Russe.
According to 311 “Amber is the color of your energy”. Now I will be singing that song all day.
Lol
Good, and Ambre Russe will give me plenty of energy 🙂
And so will I! Thanks for the earworm, I think?
I absolutely agree with amber being a color, I’ve seen gold/orange things described as amber. The colors listed in clothing catalogs are always entertaining to me: basic khakis become stone, concrete, pebble, natural; medium blue can be sky, cloud, mist, cornflower, bluebell, sea, lake, pool, insert your favorite body of water here or of course, medium blue. And that’s only two examples, there are tons more.
I had an orange tabby oncr ???? and i always described his eyes as amber colored!
I’m in Dior Cuir Cannage today, after PriscillaE mentioned it yesterday. Yummy.
You smell so good
Joining you in Cuir Cannage. Someone over on Basenotes said they were told by an SA that Cuir Cannage and Leather Oud are being discontinued. The rumours get crazier and crazier about this line. 8 new scents, then the whole line being discontinued, now only 2 scents discontinued. I don’t believe any of it until I see it.
We smell goooood. 🙂
I must need new glasses, I read that as Dior Carnage. >_< :O
Depends on how much you wear 😛
LOL – so true!
** Giggles **
I misread it as Cuir Canard, and thought duck was a really daring note. 🙂
Lol!
I’m wearing Orange Star. Does that count? A lot of fruits and flowers are also colors!
Orange is a color
You smell great and it definitely counts!
Twins!! Not my favorite orange but it does last and last!
I’m not doing well with wearing fragrance with color in the name this week, but my SOTD is Tea for Two and it’s cinnamon-colored in my mind.
Sounds like a de-lish perfume
I’m in vintage-ish Vent Vert today. It isn’t the original but I’ve had it for over 20 years. Does that make it vintage?
Yes!! (Sadly, because that seems like yesterday!). You have inspired me to pull out the vintage mini I have of Vent Vert and wear it today!!
AND, I am going to douse myself in it! No more saving it; wear and enjoy is my motto for 2018.
Ha, that makes it vintage! And you smell great.
Cold here, and expected to be windy with gusts up to 36mph. (Maybe we’d better tie down the garbage cans and unhook the porch swing chains.) I’m trying to stay warm in Black Cashmere, but Gaze and I have to go help my parents un-decorate their house, so that’s an hour’s drive each way in the wind.
No one really judges you until the decorations are up past Valentine’s Day. I say leave ’em up until a warmer day.
Here, we don’t start pointing and laughing till March, so you are fine!!
Hey twin! I have already topped up my Beige with a dollop of Black Cashmere. So sorry you are headed outside, hope it goes quickly!
Black Cashmere is the perfect scent for awful winter weather. Mine is unfortunately in storage and will probably stay there for the next year and a half until I finish school
Good morning, NST, from a very stormy Auckland. Outside, the wind is roaring; inside, the kittens are rioting — full cracker-cat mode; literally up the curtains and bouncing off the walls; and I’m awake. Again. I didn’t make it past 1.30 this time. Oh well, more time to wear perfume, I suppose.
So, what to do for the project? I have Black Cashmere, of course, but it seems a bit easy. Also Sahara Noir, but it’s a bit dry and sophisticated for the very early morning when I’m wearing pink striped p.j.s— no match there. Narcisse Bleu is a beauty, but it seems to require sun, somehow. We’re still an hour or so from dawn. I know: it’s a bit of a cheat, but Nude by Bill Blass seems to fit my needs. It’s soft and warm, not too assertive for someone who is still hoping to catch some sleep, and it smells peach-coloured. Later I might well visit Sahara Noir, but Nude does very nicely right now.
Hey, late yesterday I remembered Immortelle de Corse, almost the only L’Occitane I like. It’s lovely, isn’t it? That hit of boozy fruit, or fruity booze, at the beginning is just gorgeous, and the soft immortelle makes an interesting and surprisingly long-lasting dry down. It was another “find” resulting from the re-shuffle of my perfume cabinet, and a good one. I think I’d like to test it side-by-side with 1270. My sense is that IdC w I’ll turn out to be a golden, “summer” liquor and 1270 will be the deeper, darker, more portentous “winter” tipple, as it were. Not two sides of one coin, but different coins in the same currency, if that makes sense.
So. I’ve finished my cup of tea; I smell delicious; I’m now going to earnestly pursue some sleep. Be well, all.
LOL on “Cracker-Cat mode”. As a child my mom read to me several times James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small and he always used that term.
That’s right! James Herriot! I should re-read those. They were great fun.
A ringer for Tricki-Woo, the pekingese in All Creatures Great and Small! One of my most favorite books of all time.
I love those books and Tricki-Woo was my favorite, or rather his owner whose name I’ve forgotten, who gave James one of her husband’s suits that turned into yet another funny story. I should reread them all.
I really enjoy reading your replies – you write so well.
I hope you are enjoying a nice morning nap!
With our cats, we refer to is as having “the Wiggins”. (I think that’s a Buffy reference, although not sure)
Nude is something I got as a freebie that I don’t wear too much, but my husband comments (and compliments) each time I wear it. It must have good sillage on me. Do you find that true fir you?
Nasty out with wet, windy snow that stings when it hits your face. SOTD is the warm, golden, toasty Floris Honey Oud. Honey is a color or maybe more of a shade of brown?
Stay dry and safe Elisa P. You smell wonderful!
Thank you! Will try.
Stay warm!
Honey could be a color
You, too! I have many layers on but I could really use some goggles!
Commuting in this weather is no fun. Stay warm. So glad that work was cancelled here today.
It isn’t fun, but it’s quite a good workout. Glad you got to stay in!
Yes, my first working day under those conditions taught me the true value of waterproof makeup. Stay warm!
Ha! It was pretty hopeless today and after a certain point I give in and stop caring. Most of my am makeup is on my scarf and hat now ????
Hate that wet, cold, icy snow in the face commute. Good to wrap a scarf around your face if you can. Take your time and be safe!
I do the face wrap thing but I sure wish I had a ski mask. Hope you didn’t have to go in today!
I ended up working from home!
Black Phantom today. I’ll be needing some extra coffee this morning I suspect. (And tea in the afternoon!)
mm, you smell yummy. 🙂
Black Phantom is gorgeous! Stay warm and cozy…..
Speaking of Phantom, I just saw Phantom Thread last week over the break, the new Daniel Day Lewis flick. Highly recommend for it’s aesthetic beauty alone but the performances are just amazing too. It is a creepy story, though.
I enjoyed it-saw it in 70mm in your neck of the woods! Agree, visually stunning. And my SOTD was a rose/sandalwood combo (matched the one scent reference) so that was fun.
I forgot about that! Yep, rose/sandalwood and funny that you had those notes on.
I’m in Velvet Orris Violet White Pepper by Korres which is a ridiculously long name. Cheap but still a nice iris and candied violet scent that smells a little like those candy necklaces we ate as kids. It has TWO colors in the name for what it’s worth!
I have been curious about this one for a long while. Your comment made the shower gel hop into my Sephora cart 🙂
Good morning Y’all!
Smelling very MEH in Victoria’s Secret Love. Bought on a whim on Black Friday for $12 bucks, this is a unmemorable, unremarkable, uninteresting scent. I want my 12 bucks back…..
“Boyfriend T-shirt accord”?? WHERE??? LOL 🙂 My permanent “boyfriend” hubby smells a lot sexier than this accord, with just Tide detergent on his shirt!
Carry on fragrant friends…..
“Boyfriend T-shirt accord” depends too much on the boyfriend. If it said “Boyfriend who happens to be Paul Newman in 1961 T-shirt accord” I’d be all over that. Sometimes I’m more outraged when I pay less for a stinker than more and I don’t know why that is.
Right on target Monicoco!!
Other accords I’d buy blind:
1. “Hugh Jackman” accord
2. “Chris Pine” accord (We know from ads he’d smell of Armani)
3. “Chris Evans” accord
4. “Chris Hemsworth” accord
5. “Jeremy Irons” accord (I love older men)
I could name a few more, but this could get long…..HA HA
I like your list and will add “Ryan Reynolds” accord!
Smellin’ better all the time……LOL
Monicoco I do the same — for some reason it makes me even madder that I frittered away the relatively inconsequential amount of money.
Ha! You just reminded me I need to dispute a $5 Uber charge. I had to cancel the ride because the driver could not find my house and he did not have a good command of English to tell me where he is so I can direct him.
Gosh, and they charged you for the ride anyway? That is weird.
Wearing Donna Karan Gold and staying warm and cozy at home. I was not brave enough to face the stormy weather outside. Take care everyone!
one of my faaaaves
Very smart! Not worth going out. I can hardly see where I’m walking because of the wind and snow. Enjoy your cozy day!
Still coming down in NYC! I’ll go for a walk in a bit just to see what it looks like out there but definitely will not be accumulating many steps today.
It is really bad outside. Here in Kew Gardens the snow is still coming down heavily and the wind is increasing. I took my dog out 15 minutes ago, because he was desperate to go out, but we did not walk more than 3 minutes. People are trying to keep their sidewalks clear and I did not want to be in the middle of their cleaning process.
I am wearing Providence Perfume Co. Violet Beauregarde today, and drinking a cup of Mystic Dragon tea from The Spice & Tea Exchange.
That tea looks fun!
It is so grey and cold today, so SL Gris Clair it is. I got all matchy-matchy by also wearing a huge grey sweater 🙂
This weather calls for coffee and more coffee. Looking forward to lunchtime, when I will sneak out to get another huge tumbler-full of Starbucks’ potent dark roast brew. I bought one of their travel mugs that come with free coffee/tea for January, and it’s getting good use already.
SL Gris Clair and Eau d’Italie Sienne l’Hiver are the two fragrances that come to mind when I think of cold wintry days. I wonder what else is out there that conveys a similar mood.
You smell great!
I am attempting to cut caffeine out of my diet for an upcoming fast and I jealous of your coffee and more coffee..
Sticking with green tea and slowly taking in less and less
Whoa, I bow to your strength of will. I don’t know how I would function without coffee; I haven’t tried in a long time.
A couple of new bags of Peets arrived yesterday 🙂
I do coffee early morning and late afternoon, in between is all tea.
IT is important to stay caffeinated throughout the day 😀
I am trying Ottoman Empire for the first time and sadly not loving it. ????
I am finding something off putting…not sure what…have to investigate the notes.
I did not adore it either, and can’t remember why.
Yeah, no love for this one. It has received quite a bit of praise too.
My plebeian nose did not discern greatness. 😉
It could be the oud which sometimes reminds me of plastic adhesive strips. Also, a tiny bit goes a loooong way!
No SOTD yet. Have been racing around the house furiously tidying up. Trying to get my boys to help, but the dogs are more helpful than the boys. A few answers to folks from the Donatella confession–for gville creative, I got the tester of VCA Bois d’Iris from Fragrancenet. They have more of them, just not quite as good a deal. And K-paint, the Iris Ganache decant came from The Perfumed Court and is pre-reform as far as I know.
I am still upset that we New Yorkers can’t get Guerlain samples from TPC and STC or else I would of bought a sample of iris ganache already!
I was in a horrible hurry this morning, so I grabbed the bottle I encountered on my way out haha, my husband’s signature scent Oud Wood.
One small spray lasts me all day.
I love the cardemom in this scent.
You smell fabulous! I need to wear Oud Wood soon.
Did you see that I awarded you an enabler pin in Donatella’s poll? I bought Profumum Roma Ichnusa because of you… 🙂
Thank you for the pin!
Ichnusa is gorgeous, great buy!
i already have Philosykos. and for now I think one fig scent is good, but if I ever feel like buying another, it’ll be Ichnusa. 🙂
How cute!
I’m home today watching the snow swirl. Joining Robin and several others in Chanel Beige.
Hey sibling!
Grateful I can work from home as I would not be excited to commute in today’s weather.
Also doing cozy with the always lovely Chergui. Stay warm & safe!
Oh, nice choice for this weather.
You smell great!. Chergui is perfect for the weather we are having today. Makes you feel warm and comfy.
I’m enjoying the cold temperatures (not as cold as everyone else today!) and wearing Jeux de Peau with my big wool sweater. It’s a good thing that I love this scent, because I accidentally spritzed in my hair and it has been wafting gloriously around me all morning.
Stay warm and cozy and safe everyone!
Hi All!
1) See, this nonsense is why I left Brooklyn.
2) SOTD: Chanel Eau Premiere- I ran out of my sample of Beige.
3) Big cream colored wool sweater, jeans and boots.
4) The Last Jedi : Extraordinary spectacle, with dollops of social commentary and incredible performances all around, with a special shout to Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver.
1) Agree! I lived 20 winters with snow. I’m DONE.
2 & 3) Perfect scent & outfit combination!
4) Agree! I saw The Last Jedi weeks ago, and I still find myself thinking about it.
Yup! Yes, it does get very cold here in Portland, but the harsh, harsh northern sea cold I can absolutely live without, thanks!
TLJ was really something. Driver imbues his horrible, pathetic character with tenderness and a capability for wisdom, which makes him all the more terrifying*. Ridley is plain terrific as a woman discovering HERSELF, without a need for romance- something too damn rare in movies.
A really nifty and interesting video essay re: Star Wars
The Case Against The Jedi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUPD1w78D5I
oooh, thanks for that link, very interesting point of view.
Driver and Ridley are so well cast in their roles, each is formidable in their own way.
I thought the A story was great and compelling but the B story, aka casino royale world, was fairly craptacular.
Ridley is amazing to watch though (such talent!) and I completely agree that it is wonderful to see a young woman discovering herself and coming into her own…and not as an extension of romantic interest or due to attention from a man.
The B story I think was kinda SUPPOSED to be crappy- the waste of time turned out to be TRULY a waste of time ( and people). It still doesn’t make any less itchy to sit through.
We all need to see more of Ridley! In good films!
I’ve got the same outfit on today, and NOT in Brooklyn but in Manhattan! Premiere is beautiful, especially the older version which is the one I own.
Ha! I grew up in Brooklyn but live in Portland now. It gets cold, but not as cold and cruel seeming as it can in NYC in the first half of winter!
Another one in Beige this morning… testing the new EdP formula. Still meh to me. More for the rest of you.
It’s not particularly cold here in the SF Bay Area (sorrynotsorry. I did my time on the east coast, and in the midwest…) but we got Oakland Fresca’s earthquake last night at 2:40am. No harm done apparently, but OF: you can stop asking for quakes now, ok? 😉
Hey almost Twin. I am wearing the EDT. I wish I had bought a bottle before it was too late. Glad you didn’t have any damage.
I know. I am glad we got a bit of rain yesterday to help reduce the risk of fire!
Cool and damp here in San Diego, layering some Tocca Stella body cream with Cuir Cannage.
You smell wonderful and cosy and you would give great hugs today!
Today’s SOTD Is Miller Harris Fig Amere, soft, warm and salty figgy amber.
SOTD is L’Artisan Parfumeur Bois Farine. I don’t consider Bois Farine cozy exactly, but to me it’s definitely a cold weather comfort scent.
You smell great in any case 🙂
SotM = Beige EdT from an old STC sample
go Team Beige!
The dry down reminds me of happy days and J&J baby shampoo. I love it.
Wow, we really are a big team today!
Yesterday was beautifully warm and the day was in full-blown smellorama: a picnic in the heritage rose garden admiring and sniffing the moss roses…lovely. On the drive home we were going through farm land, very warm, haymaking in process in the paddocks when there was a sudden downpour of rain…we pulled over and opened the windows: the smell of fresh mown hay, the road steaming in the heat and rain on dust…gosh it was good. A section of the drive between Invercargill and Dunedin goes over “The Presidential Highway” ( there’s a sign so it must be true) linking The farming town of Gore ( which is pretty conservative ) with Clinton ( population about 200). All good at the surgeons. Wearing Bas de Soie which is perfect for the drizzly, muggy, low cloud morning.
Smellorama indeed, your day just sounds(smells?) wonderful. I can almost vicariously smell it.
Your description totally removed me from the snow and gusts of wind outside my window. In another season I would have inhaled as much of those scents as possible. Aah. Thank you.
Nice! I’m there in my mind!
All good at the surgeons. All good.
Great smell image! And so glad to hear Alex is healing well.
Decided to upgrade my Martin Margiela ‘Promenade In The Gardens’ to a ‘work’ perfume for today (my weekly voluntary stint at a local charity shop) – it’s quite stoing smelling initially & I was slightly disappointed that none of my colleagues commented! The lady who sold me it last year (in Frasers, Glasgow) was generous with samples, so I might try a couple of different MM ones in the next few weeks.
It does smell lovely now, I must say…
I’ve not gotten on with any of the MM, although I’m curious about Wicked Love which came out in 2017 but I’ve not seen anywhere yet.
Glad you’ve found one to enjoy!
I meant to save this for tomorrow, but somehow wore it today: the perfume with the MOST color in its name, Green Green Green and Green. For tomorrow I guess I’ll have to try to conjur up a rainbow…
And such a great scent, too!
Wearing Lavande 44 from Rania J. today.
After work I went shopping and bought new pair of leather gloves and a lovely green jumper. All on sale of course 😉
I wore Prada Infusion d’Amande yesterday in your honor! Your review yesterday was great! (Sorry for not telling you so sooner.)
That’s so nice of you Suzy! I assume that you also enjoy this perfume?
Oh, yes! I do. I bought a decant for a friend because of her love of almond notes but, well…I kept it. That’s not very nice, I know, but once I tried it, I was sure she wouldn’t like it. She’s not a fan of the Prada Infusions base.
Your gain and I guess not her loss at all 😛
Congratulations on your purchases! Green is my favourite color. I like all shades except maybe for chartreuse.
I wear black, green and blue mostly. The jumper is dark green, like a bottle green shade.
SOTD = Cuir Beluga
I probably should have worn No.19 but I couldn’t resist this cuddlefluff ™️ (Lucas) in this snowy snow day!
So happy to see my term being more commonly used! It’s another of those useful words like fruitchuli or floriental.
I am joining you in Cuir Beluga for my SOTE.
This week has just flown by and I missed Donatella and most of Color Week somehow. I bought just three perfumes in the last quarter of 2017–Penhaligon’s The Ruthless Countess Dorothea (such a goofy name for a lovely ginger-prominent scent), a Stash gift set at TJMaxx, and that adorable 5ml L’ADDM. The Penhaligon was a souvenir from Honolulu so it doesn’t count, so the total for the last quarter of 2017 was under $25. Today is overcast and chilly so I am wearing Safran Troublant to help feel warmer. Stay warm and dry, East Coasters!
I WISH I was on vacation everyday; this means all my purchases don’t count. Thanks for giving me another reason to not have to confess to Donatella eventhough I had been (very) naughty.
I am planning to buy Countess Dorothea for my mom for her birthday – I like the scent and her name is Dorothy. 🙂
It’s the last day of my two week holiday, still the weekend to go, but that’s not quite the same. I rarely take off more than a week at a time, so this has been quite lovely. I’ll be spending most of the day fiddling about in the kitchen. I’ve been keen to try some recipes in a new cookbook (from Dragonfly, one of my favourite restaurants in Wellington) and they all involve lots of separately prepared bits and pieces. I’m thinking my sample of Frederic Malle’s Noir Epices might be good for that.
In Miu Miu L’eau Bleue….
Had an exciting night! At about 2:40 this morning our house started vibrating and shaking. My husband and I flew out of bed to reach the boys upstairs, but the earthquake (or earthshake in local parlance) was mercifully short and over before we got to them. Turns out the epicenter was fours houses up from my mom (she lives about 6 miles north of us). She said it was unremarkable where she was even though it’s been graded a 4.4. Apparently, being at the epicenter doesn’t always translate to being at the worst spot–depends on depth and other factors.
Anyway, a reminder that Californians should not feel too smug about our weather because we get a host of other natural challenges/disasters!
Glad to hear you and your family are fine and safe.
4.4 is still pretty mild. Glad there was no damage!
All of our cold weather moved out earlier in the week, so we’re enjoying mid-50s here in the Denver area today. While normally I’d be celebrating with something light and floral, I’ve come down with my annual new year’s chest cold, and needed something stronger to overcome the constant scent of cough drops that I’m sucking on 24/7 (at least they’re sugar free, or I’d have gained 2 pounds in the last 48 hours, lol). I reached impulsively for my vintage Vol de Nuit extrait on my way out the door this morning, and it’s proven to be a comforting choice. I smell great, even if I don’t feel great.
Stay warm, East Coasters! I can’t say that I miss the damp cold of Mid-Atlantic winters (I’ll take the dry cold of Colorado any day).
Enjoy your weather. We are frozen here 🙁
Hope you feel better soon. You smell amazing!
That Chanel brooch is stunning! In honor of the bomb cyclone, I’m wearing Spicebomb. Lots of snow and wind here in NJ. Brrrr!
Nice pick for today! ????. Stay warm and safe!
Hello, dear NSTers! I’m afraid I’m not abiding by the color concept of this week’s CP, but I am re-testing Mitzah today. I couldn’t deal with dabbing from the mini, no matter how cute it is, so I pipetted it into a spray bottle, and now I like it much better. Still not 100 % sure it’s for me, but it certainly is beautiful.
On another note, I really love the 10-mL spray bottles I bought. They feel so…professional. They feel nicer than a lot of mfr travel sprays.
Inspired by several people reporting their 2017 perfume usage, I too have started a spreadsheet in which I can list what I am wearing each day. Today is only Day 4 of the year, so I’m still listing faithfully, but we’ll see how long I can keep this up!
Where did you buy your 10 ml sprays from please?
I got them from a brick-and-mortar boutique near me, unfortunately!
I like the ones i got from bestbottles.com.
Good afternoon, I’m late reading and posting because I was doing a lot of catch-up stuff today, including taking down my Christmas tree and ornaments. The cats had helped “decorate” the Christmas tree skirt, which is now soaking in the laundry room sink. I’m wearing Chambre Noire today from Olfactive Studios. It was the one I liked most when they came out and I was intrigued by them, but I haven’t worn it for, well, probably two-three years. It’s nice actually, dark wood and fruit, I don’t pick up much leather. I probably have enough “noir” perfumes to do weeks just on noir alone! It would be hard to pinpoint which one is best or my favourite. I wonder if it’s the most-used perfume name with a color (it’s not quite a color is it?). On another note, I just discovered, under pressure from a good friend, how to stream videos on Amazon prime and have been binge-watching The Man in the High Castle. It’s utterly addictive! I am sure I knew I could do this before but was afraid that just this would happen. I’ve got work to do and our university will start classes on the 16th and I don’t have time for this! We have decent weather today and the danger of more freeze and frost is past, so I feel lucky. It’s still chilly for Texas, in the 40’s, but that’s kind of a nice change for awhile. I get to wear my nice sweaters that otherwise have to go back into the mothballs (not really–I use a cedar block to keep them safe).
Welcome to Amazon Prime; say goodbye to your free time 🙂
(a poem)
Oh, it’s hard getting back into the swing of things after a Christmas break!
My colour week so far:
Mon: Black – Pierre Guillaume Collection Croisiere “Rivages Noirs”. Tropical coconut/melon was nice in warm weather but no lasting power – hot sun in Malaga;
Tue: Yellow – Akka Cappa “Giallo Elicriso” was kind of generic mens’ stuff – a sunny, windy morning followed by an afternoon flight home to dark and rain;
Wed: Gold – Junaid Jamshed “Zarar Gold” was a kind of sour pineapple with poor longevity – 04:30 alarm call to fly through storm Eleanor to a grey and gusty Duesseldorf;
Thu: Green – Tom Ford “Vert d’Encens” – the fir-and-incense mix is somehow coming across as leathery and not rocking my world – old friend storm Eleanor has caught back up with me tonight.
Tomorrow will be back to black. ;^)
I thought the Ryanair passenger story may have been you.
Glad it wasn’t.
I like your list! Very thoughtful.
Glad you survived Eleanor – some pretty heavy storm surge and flooding in St. malo, France, looked bad.
Guerlain Terracotta. It’s pretty. Blind buys/good deals on eBay for Queen Latifah and Moonlight Patchouli are on their way. These get lots of mention on NST, and I’m looking forward to trying them out.
Have a great Thursday. ????
Terracotta is a big, big favoriteof mine You smell fantastic!
Queen Latifah is really nice. I received a mini perfume and body lotion for Christmas that I will either swap or list them on the freebiemeet, since I already have a big bottle of the perfume. I have never tried Moonlight Patchouli. I need to remedy that since it gets lots of love almost everywhere. I will check ebay then.
Thank you! Queen arrived today it’s really nice, way nicer than what I was expecting so I’m very happy with that one!
I love queen too! considering trying Queen of hearts as well
You love gourmands, so I am pretty sure you will enjoy Queen a lot! ????
I was going to go for a color today, but I started my morning with a slow movement workout, and ten minutes in felt very strongly that I needed to be smelling Jaisalmer while moving, so that’s what I went with. I find it to be very calming.
SOTD is Sables, which I haven’t worn in three years, I think, but in this weather it seemed the perfect choice–smoky, spicy, heavy.
Mmmm I can’t handle that one except in the coldest of weather, but when we get there it’s heaven.
In Ombre Indigo by Olfactive Studio today. Interesting evolution: in the first moment, I had a distinct impression of Nuit Etoilee, which was gone just as quickly as leather bloomed. Enjoyed the leather for a few hours, until it was replaced with what seems like a vetiver-ambergris-Nuit Etoilee mixture, heavy on the ambergris. Unfortunately, ambergris often conjures up the unwelcome ghost of vomit for me, so this is going to be a no-go, lol.
I got a few Tom Ford samples with my Luckyscent order and today I’m trying Vert des Bois. Quite strong when I first put it on and I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but it is settling down quite nicely.
I have to check out more Tom Fords next time I’m at Nordstrom.
Wearing one of the leather scents you sent, thank you!!
Late today, but wanted to wish you all in the east safe and hopefully No one loses power. I’m wearing Feve today, the color of smelling awesome!
Sounds like it smells awesome!
Ditto on the weather!
I woke up late today and didn’t have the TV on this morning before work so I wasn’t aware of that monster storm. Hope everyone is staying safe and warm as possible.
I won’t complain about the additional snow we are scheduled to get now.
SOTD Evody Cuir Blanc
sample from a generous Nst’er 🙂
It’s nice, surprising burst of freshness at beginnng, then leather, smoke, white musk and iris – just like the description.
Snowed in like so many of us – nearly impossible to get work done at home! And like an idiot I began a new diet this week. Nice. No sugar or alcohol to comfort me – will have to stick with perfume 🙂
Nice pin Robin!
That’s restraint, especially after Christmas to stop both sugar AND alcohol. Best of luck!
Thanks Gail!
For this wicked DC weather I started off with Tauer’s perfume soap in Solar Engineer (thank you NST for the lemming post)with some Dame Earth Mother hair oil. It worked pretty well and it really did transport me to warmer climates!
I didn’t remember to put on any perfume this morning, but SOTE is Vintage-ish (late 1990s IIRC) Magie Noire. I used to love this in cold weather, but for some reason it is annoying me. I think maybe my tastes have changed. I used to love mostly big, heavy Oriental scents, but now find that I don’t love them as well as I used to.
Late as usual, but wearing Prada Fleur d’Oranger from my cute mini. It’s got pretty good staying power and making me feel it’s not so cold outside.
