Happy Almost-Friday, and happy birthday to Nichelle Nichols. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Bruno Fazzolari Feu Secret. It was one of my favorite new fragrances last year, plus, it's a perfect scent for the freezing temperatures we're having at the moment.
Reminder: on 12/29 we're doing Best of 2017...wear one of your favorite fragrance releases of 2017.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
On my way to a meeting and the trains are running very slow. Patience! Wearing 2 sprays of Caron Parfume Sacre for beauty and comfort on a terrifying cold and super windy day. Stay warm everyone!
You smell lovely.
Thank you Mals86!
Agreed, you smell fab!
Thank you! You also smell wonderful in Black Perfecto!
SORD is another 2017 release by ELDO – You or Someone Like You. Minty, green, aromatic, floral. Very fresh. Did anyone else get blackcurrant from this scent? I can distinctly smell black currant.
You smell great!
And yes to blackcurrant in You or Someone Like You. I opened my sample vial this morning to check. š
Thanks, tiffanie. š
Much of the ELDO is massively on sale now at Sephora- 1.6 oz is $58 BUT there is also a 20% sale on sale items with a code that is listed on the website (might be SALEONSALE) which bring the bottle to somewhere in the 46 dollar range. The Histoire de Parfums are also on sale and 20 percent off with code. And a few of the Philosophy fragrances (Pure Grace 2oz with 8 oz body lotion and shower gel and the Sweet Cream mini is half price)
Wow, great deals!
Those are nice deals.
Stay warm Robin! We had those freezing temperatures yesterday, today we will warm up into the teens. Lol.
I am trying Twilly again today. It is definitely more wearable for me than Gabrielle was, but I probably don’t need to own it. Even with that uber cute bottle.
Has anyone tried any of the perfumes from Art Meets Art? I read about the line recently on the Byrdie website. Their perfumes are named after songs and I am particular curious about Like a Virgin and Sexual Healing. I ordered a sample set and got word that they shipped yesterday. 6 samples for 9 bucks plus free shipping caused me to break my no-buy samples rule.
particularly (need more coffee)
We’re warming into the teens today too š Haven’t heard of Art Meets Art but that’s a good deal on samples, looking forward to reading your thoughts.
Ha, then you will still be colder than we will — I think we are expecting 22? Anything below 50 is outside of my comfort zone š
I saw it mentioned on YouTube and ordered samples! Looking forward to trying these!
Love your snowman :0
Thanks!
Wafting big clouds of vintage Shalimar today as it’s my day off and I’ve been ignoring it lately. I smell great š
You do smell great!
You DO smell great for sure! Shalimar is so lovely…
Yes, you do! Which version are you wearing? I finally found some extrait at a reasonable price and it’s on its way to me, which I’m pretty excited about.
It’s a vintage edp. You will love the extrait! I have a tiny bottle that I eke out a few drops at a time.
Robin, I love Bruno Fazzolari, especially AuDeLA. I have a 1/2 fb and a 2nd one on the shelf in storage. Great pick!
Has anyone tried Slowdive by Hiram Green yet? I have been searching for a fabulous orange blossom…. couldn’t help thinking of holyneroli or
My sample is on its way,,, I’ll let you know.
I have a sample on the way too.
I am another one waiting on Slowdive!
That’s terrific!! Can’t wait to hear!
Currently 84F here with a chance to getting all the way up to 90 later on.
Clear skies and low humidity (which is very rare for Buenos Aires)
I will be wearing my mix of La Pausa with an extra couple of sprays of Aveda Pure-formance.
The aveda works wonders in high temperatures even though it is a spicy thing… I guess it is because it lacks vanilla, tonka or any similar thing.
With this heat lately these have been two-showers a day days… so maybe something different at night? Perhaps my Brin de Reglisse which is so soothing and calm.
Cheers!!
84F…. I should be there now….
You smell great in La Pausa. Is it the EdT or EdP?
Thank you! EdT š
You smell great! Sounds like a gorgeous day.
It was… because of the weather, perfume.. and icecream! š
Cheers!
opps – sorry puppy antics caused me to abandon my keyboard! ….completing my sentence would read:
‘…couldn’t help thinking of holyneroli or Nozknoz, perhaps they have sampled? ‘
Feu Secret= I must try, especially because Lucky Scent said it was similar to VCA Bois d’Iris.
It’s too cold to get off the couch so the couch is my new staging area for life. ( I should stop the drama, It’s only 41 degrees, barely cold to Northerners). SOTD is Grand Soir.
41 is practically balmy! It’s currently 15F here.
…but the couch sounds like a good idea regardless of temperature.
15F! I just converted that to Celsius and learned it’s minus 9.4. I’ve never experienced anything that cold!
41 is cold! Complaints justified! š
I’d like to try Feu Secret, too. Can anyone who’s tried it comment on how smoky it is?
I’d say spicy more than smokey, but that might just be me.
Hmmm I had not noticed the similarity. Feu Secret is spicier to me.
Our icy weather has finally broken (it’s supposed to get all the way to 50 tomorrow, nearly to Robin’s preferred temperature zone) and I’m in TF Fleur de Chine to celebrate. Plus, badly needed haircut this weekend – woohoo!
why did he discontinue that one..
I canāt understand it as well.
Iām not saying it because I personally like it but rather because it seemed like a very good mass-appeal perfume. If it was for me, Iād have disappointed many other perfumes before this one.
Really good question. Seems like anything that could become a new classic gets discontinued these days. Or badly reformulated, as I’ve heard rumors of with Alahine … which would be supremely sad. I suppose I prefer discontinuance over bad refo, but it’s a tough call.
You smell great!
Thank you!
Quite chilly here atm, but supposed to warm up to 28F later today. I am at the tire place getting the slow leak of my rear passenger tire looked at, and wearing PG Un Crime Exotique from an old sample.
Really nice stuff, but I notice that hardly anyone mentions PG these days. Out of fashion? Or we’re all just overwhelmed by the sheer number of perfume houses and perfumista interest is less concentrated now?
Raises hand..
What is PG?
Parfumerie Generale
THUS MAKING MY POINT FOR ME. (lol!)
I’ve owned lots of PG fragrances over the years, but sadly, they seem to be discontinuing many of the best ones – Un Crime Exotique, Bois de Copaiba, Bois Blond – and I haven’t enjoyed their ‘updates’ to some of their older scents as I’d hoped. I wish they’d have just kept around the good ones instead of doing updates to some of the others! I’ve swapped away a few from the original line that I wasn’t wearing much anymore – Aomassai, Cadjmere, Musc Maori, L’Eau de Circe – but I still have, enjoy, and occasionally wear, Bois Naufrage, Iris Taizo, Indochine, and Djhenne.
Pierre Guillaume has multiple lines in play, in addition to PG, and I wonder sometimes if diversifying to that extent has undermined the PG line.
I kind of thought that myself about him and his multiple lines. I get a sense of restlessness from the way he expands, reworks, and releases his perfumes. Nothing has quite spoken to me from his vast array of choices.
You might be right on his multiplied lines. Especially since some of the newer ones seem to be takes on the older ones. I dunno. Sigh.
I think his line is too big and my favourites were the earlier releases. Plus, there are just too mant releases to keep up with in the perfume world in general.
Yeah. So many. SO SO SO many.
In addition to other explanations provided, I want to mention that this line isnāt well represented in the U.S. While in older times most of niche perfumes got sampled through buying samples online or exchanging them with other perfume lovers, nowadays with so many niche and high-end mainstream perfumes available in different stores, those that are not easily available have to be hyped up significantly by others to persuade people to seek them out. PG isnāt new or interesting any longer – they are just harder to get, which isnāt enough any more.
I have PG Cuir d’Iris and love it, but admit I haven’t tried others from that house. A lot of their fragrances are extraits – I wonder if that holds people back from trying (or liking) them.
Agree with all of the above. One bother is that few places in the US carry the smallest sizes. But mainly I have found that the new releases are very short lived on me, so even when I like them, I am not tempted to buy. I don’t like things to last forever and ever, but more than an half hour!
It’s chilly down here in Texas too but not freezing!
I’m wearing just a few touches of Tauer’s l’Oudh. Good stuff. Very straightforward.
Lucky you — I would settle for chilly now.
Mission accomplished! My yearly review of favorite fragrances in 2017 is now live on the blog.
I’m in April Aromatics Calling All Angels. It’s soothing as it’s raining all day long.
Thanks for your reviews and list, Lucasi! I’ve hardly tried any of them but have several I now want to find, especially the Sweet William one, as I love those flowers and their spicy smell. Also glad to see Grandiflora on there. Did you ever get your own bottle of Queen of the Night? Happy New Year!
I didn’t get the bottle yet but now that the brand is available in Poland it’ll be much easier to put my hand on it š
Read your list first thing this morning and found that I have a few you mentioned, have wanted to try a few others, and am overall inspired for 2018. Many thanks!
Thank you
Thanks for the link!
Or announcement, rather š
my pleasure
Thanks! There are a FEW in there as ‘Must try’ for me. And well timed too.
Hope you’ll get to try them soon
I’ve looked at your list and I clearly have a lot to catch up on! Thank you for the inspiration š
Have fun as you’ll be catching up
Wearing Diptyque Essences Insensees 2016 Rose de Mai. I really enjoy this honeyed waxy rose š
Diptyque skipped this year, it seems..?
I just ordered a sample of this one and was also wondering where their 2017 edition went… Looking forward to trying this rose!
It’s too bad they are not doing it this year. I like their takes, though the Jasmine from 15′ was a bit too much for me. I hope you enjoy the rose!
I love that jasmine – both the juice and bottle.
Hi Kpaint! Yes! I have it (2015)in the solid and wear it to bed on my wrists each night. So lovely. 2nd. container….. can’t get enough!
You smell wonderful!
Aw thanks š
Best of 2017
Black Perfecto
You smell great! I regret not buying a bottle when sniffing at CDG duty free in May. I haven’t seen it anywhere since. Anyone happen to know if/where this can be purchased online in the US?
No luck here in the US, but I am definitely buying it in Montreal in April as I hear The Bay has it (or if I find it in duty free).
The Bay has it, Canadian Sephoras have it, and so does Shopper’s Drug Mart. I was able to sample it and think “Wow, that would probably smell dynamite on someone else.” (My skin amped the cherry note to Robitussin levels.)
Love les Carottes, a great iris that I somehow neglect.
Can never go wrong with Iris
This one is nice and carroty! Great choice for an iris!
It’s moved up to #2 in my must sample list! Since the time when I added it to the list at #158, I’ve sampled a lot of fumes. Whoa.
Iāve been wanting to try the Bruno Fazzolaru line – this particularly sounds like it would be appealing to me.
The line is very much worth trying!
SOTD Tauer Au Coeur du Desert, my preferred version of LAdDM. Toasty warm for another frigid day. Stay warm or cool, wherever you are.
You smell wonderful!
Thanks! I’m enjoying my own smell thoroughly today ????
Wowza, I just read the description for Au Coeur du Desert. Imagining you smell marvelous!
It is marvelous! Like LAdDM, but less dry and a tad sweeter to me.
Cousins in LAdDM!
Hey cousin! You smell great!
Iām thinking about putting this one on once I find strength to get out of bed. Thank you for the idea. You smell good!
Thanks! I’d rather be in bed, myself.
I spritzed some Byredo Rose Noir on the back of my neck (my go-to spot with a nursing 3-month old) from a swap decant. Something about it reminds me of Coco Mademoiselle, for some reason. Maybe there’s sweet patchouli? Anyway, it’s pretty but not a scent that would rise to the top of my Rose collection.
I really liked the early part of that one but I didn’t like the drydown. I got patchouli, but the dry, dusty type.
2017’s Velvet Haze. When I sniff the wrist where I applied it, I can’t smell it at all but I keep getting the occasional whiff at random moments. It’s unspectacular but nice. It would be good for situations where you don’t want to make a big scent statement.
It’s interesting how often that category would be useful!
Happy Birthday Lt. Uhura! š
Trying out Gucci Bloom today….got it as a deluxe sample from a Sephora order. Most tuberose scents take me to instant headache land, but I’m happy to say that Bloom is really pretty and so far headache free! Just a dab’ll do ya though….
You smell great. I like Gucci Bloom quite well. A rollerball is on my wishful thinking list.
I forgot to mention that earlier. Three cheers for Uhura!
Itās bitter cold here so Iām summoning summer with a sample of DSH bluedaisy.
Good strategy.
Triple strength coffee ā
Long workout ????

I was thinking about making soups this morning, and have also got a ham bone to use. I tried Superstitious and was a bit put off, but plan to revisit at some point.
???? No middle ground with Superstitious!
????
????
I need coffee (Iāll get it soon) and I want your soup (well, maybe next week).
Superstitious smelled great on one of my perfumista friends so I assume it smells wonderful on you.
Thanks Undina, it does smell wonderful on me.
But I can see how someone could disagree! ????LOL
And apparently I need MORE coffee! āāāāāā

Your soup sounds wonderful! What happened to the ginormous feast you had on Christmas? I hope you got some leftovers from that spread!
Thanks Jalapeno !!
I still have some leftovers that I’ve been rationing.
The fish I used first, but still have some spinach and crab dips, and of course, cookies.
The split pea soup is now in individual containers, perfect for a quick lunch or dinner.
The Eagles game was pulled pork and broccoli rabe sliders with sharp Provolone, steak peppers and onions sliders, and mini cannoli. And BEER !!!
Your barbeque sounded delicious !!

LOLOLOL š
I’m continuing my unofficial ‘Week of DSH’ and wearing Mata Hari, which I finally purchased last weekend; it’s been on my wish list since I first sampled it a few years ago. Dawn originally created this one as her entry in the Natural Perfumers’ Guild’s ‘Outlaw Perfume Project,’ a poke in the eye to IFRA that challenged indie perfumers to create fragrances containing natural oils that have been declared hazardous and either barred or severely restricted in their use. Originally this was an extremely limited edition fragrance, but it proved popular enough that Dawn added it to her regular lineup. Because it contains all botanical essences, it is slightly more expensive, but the availability of her new 10 ml roller ball pens, and the holiday discount, made me decide that it would finally be mine š
Dawn asked me when I last tried Mata Hari, and then told me that her latest batch smelled a bit different from my last sampling, because the osmanthus absolute she sourced for this latest batch was exceptionally potent. She then let me sample the latest batch, and wowza, the osmanthus really did leap to the front of the line in a way I’d never experienced the note before: very much darker-fruitier and sweeter. Within a few minutes, however, the osmanthus settled down into a softer, chewier apricot interwoven with all the fruity chypre goodness of oakmoss, labdanum, and light patch, touches of myrrh and immortelle, and lightly animalic notes of styrax. There are tons of other naturals in here as well, but those are the notes that play up on my skin. Perhaps because I purchased this in the roller ball pen instead of a spray, this fierce little number stays surprisingly close to my skin, and I’m wearing it right now at work without any worries that it is too strong. It is a really glorious piece of art.
Oh, and note to IFRA: I’m not anywhere near death from wearing it (this 100% botanical outlaw has caused me exactly zero sensitivity or reactions, thank you very much).
Joining you in giving IFRA le bras dāhonneur for their silly useless restrictions. Enjoy your Mata Hari!
LOL at ‘le bras d’honneur!’ Only in French can an insulting gesture still sound paradoxically elegant š
SOTD is Zoologist Elephant. I got this and Camel samples at the same time and was so excited I tried both at once. They are far too different and it was a hot mess. This has the dryness of Rhinoceros (which I love) with a sharp floral. Interesting.
Wow, that sounds fantastic! I love Rhino too; I will definitely be sampling these new ones.
Off to yoga with a bit of Carnal Flower body butter. Will see what End up with after my shower.
Carnal Flower body butter sounds divine!
That Fragonard candle, yesterday’s lemming, was so adorable that I’m afraid I grabbed the last one on Amazon. I had to take my car for repairs very early on this 2 degree morning, and I still haven’t thought of my SOTD. I know Zoologist has Panda, but today I think I need a big, burly, possibly dangerous Grizzly.
2 degrees brings back bad memories of playing the Bus Stop Waiting Game when I was in high school in Illinois. I had to wear the dang skirt and everything. So COLD it felt like if you make even the slightest movement, you will shatter into a million frozen pieces. I hope your car heater took some steroids today to keep you warmāļø
I remember leaving the house once (and only once) to walk to school without drying my hair. I broke off half a frozen lock of hair – it just snapped off!!!
Yep,I’m with ya sista! … already got it on amazon. the container alone is beautiful and I am such a sucker for lemongrass ANYTHING!!! I hope you find one – that was the last one on amazon but available I think on Ebay ……
Hope it turns out to be a decent candle!
I have a few things/scents going on today: Bath & Bodyworks Birch & Argan, layered with Hove Honeysuckle and some Shalimar powder.
Hard to imagine that mix, hope it is nice!
Puttering about the house before going to lunch with a friend. In Who Knew? partly because I now have a backup bottle and don’t need to worry about running out.
So, yesterday, arrived at work and the first thing out of the night nurseās mouth was: āIām not trying to be creepy but you smell REALLY good!ā
When did a compliment become creepy? I have no clue, but I told him āThank You! Never creepy to say something nice.ā
On the other hand, I walked into a patientās room who I thought was sleeping, snoring to beat the band, and I quietly walked up to the computers station in the room, and he says without opening his eyes, very Hannibal Lecter like, āI can SMELL youā in a very sing-songy voice. Now thatās creepy. ????
Another pt who was encephalopathic said to me (mind you, he had been my or for 8 hours prior to this comment): āHey, you finally got yourself together! You get your hair did? It looks real good!ā
Good thing my self esteem is not based on others. Life is funny and terrifying, by turns.
Smell Well, all and Happy Almost Friday Day.
Robin, will you be reviewing FS? Iām finding myself right at home in BFās house????
Wait, so what were you wearing? It’s too bad that “you smell good” has become a compliment people are uncomfortable giving.
yeah really, I am dying to know as well. Really funny stories!
Sorry, itās Ummagumma, which I have fallen for in a serious way. But then, Iām one of those allnor nothing people. See Sistineās comment below- doesnāt seem to work for her, so as they say, YMMV????
Ha! That’s awesome. Creepy, but in a good way????
Ummagumma seems to be a crowd pleaser-even with the questionably conscious. Must pull out my sample soon.
Iāve got to get some of this Ummagumma. It sounds fabulous!
Also anxious to hear……
Iām all excited. Iāve just received my order confirmation for the BF sample set. Yay!
Oh, hope you enjoy them!
I work with 14/ 15 year olds and have had to develop skin 3 miles thick.
(Quiet voice – I finally tried Ummagumma today. It worked horribly with my skin chemistry. I had to wash it off after 20 minutes – it was just “Generic Cinnamon Spice Holiday Candle” on my skin. It smelled gorgeous on my husband, however. Waaaah.)
Soto voce back to you: Sorry it didnāt work for you (cinnamon?!?????) but (insert Machiavellian chuckle here) more for ME! Bwahahaha ????
I already reviewed it, link in sotd post above!
And wow, what a story.
Well, apparently I am not only stupid, but also blind. ???? Iām gonna follow the link…
I’m wearing Jacomo no. 8, a lovely warm spice for today’s cold weather.
You smell lovely! It’s great for cold weather.
Lubin Epidor ( thanks Gaynor) . One of my favourites of 2017 and perfect for golden weather. Keep warm everyone! I just realised that 2017 is almost over and my last year’s resolution to wear a dress has only a couple more days to be made a reality. I last wore a dress in July 2012 ( a spectacularly awful and memorable day) so it’s one of my annual resolutions that I always miss. Epidor is a definite ‘dress’ kind of perfume.
LOLOL! I don’t know why this is cracking me up so much š Maybe 2018 will be the year? *tick tock*
It is cracking me up too, and likewise I don’t know why! I might wear a dress once or twice or never a year.
Lubin Epidor is a lovely scent Kanuka! Good choice, go for it!! You will look and smell beautiful!
I’m glad you like Epidor. I can’t quite decide if I like it or not, which certainly saves me from a FB purchase.
I haven’t worn a dress in years either, and I doubt it will happen in the few days left of this year.
I’ve been meaning to try Epidor since I read about it on The Posse, so I may need to get my mitts on a sample sometime soon.
Do you wear skirts at all?
I like Epidor so much – I expected something very specific from the description, it didn’t smell like that at all, but the scent that did develop was unique and truly lovely.
Have fun in your dress! I hate them, especially because I’ve only worn them for funerals for the last 4 years. Maybe I need to reclaim them for the lighter side of life.
Coldy today, but Azemour les Oranges is cheering and comforting.
It seems that orange is the leader for unofficial scent of the day!
Citrus is so uplifting in cold weather, isnāt it?
SotD = Caron Bellodgia from a sample vial.
The carnation note is breathtaking. I came across Bellodgia while looking for a community project scent. Found Bruma, La Sillage Blanc, and Grand Soir as tomorrow’s possibilities.
In a few hours I will smell like a bakery. Today we bake cinnamon rolls at my mum’s house with all her grandchildren. Each child makes their own tray of cinnamon rolls in whatever design they want. Wreath and snowman shapes are favorites. The kids decorate what they’ve baked with icing and candies. Fun stuff.
ouch, that’s LE Sillage Blanc. My sample vial’s labelled wrong, but I should know better.
As my French teacher would have said, “mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.”
Oh, baking cinnamon rolls sounds great right now! ????
Morning. YAWN. uh…let me start again. Good morning. Iām late, because yesterday we decided quite suddenly to drive home a day early. The weather changed in Whanganui to the point that painting was impossible, and we thought about traffic leading up to the long weekend, and started packing the car. Iām not sure we even formally discussed and decidedāwe just seemed to know each otherās minds. Got home about 8.30, which isnāt even late, but we were still tired. This time the kits made us pay for the dreadful thing we had inflicted on them. Eric wouldnāt purr: he was merely polite if I picked him up. The other two just avoided us with high-speed take offs.
We seem to have been forgiven this morning. Alexander and I are enjoying a cuddle, coffee and Coromandel, an alliterative serendipity for this slow start to Friday. He bestowed his presence on me very gravely, as though presenting me with a bouquet after I opened a Fete, or something…where did that very 1950s thought come from? I must be channelling my mother in some long-forgotten way. Eric has a very long blue bootlace that is fighting back when he tries to subdue it. He has had to be disentangled twice already. Titus is sitting on the top shelf of the hot water cupboard in a den he has made. I have news for him later, and itās all bad….life is normal here, then.
My time away has taught me to really appreciate my perfumes. Taking the wrong selection and not wanting to wear them makes me pleased with my deeper, warmer choice today. Ah, Chanel. I drift faithlessly through the perfume world, but in my heart, I love you best…be well, all.
I like the way you always circle back to Chanel, how it restores a sense of equilibrium. Home sweet home!
Yes, the apartment and Auckland are home still, but only for a while. I spoke to a tradesman in Whanganui about putting a new roof on the house, so that we can get rid of the old, worry-in-an-earthquake tiles. Hmmm….I might have to work for a couple of months longer for that little indulgence. No, the truth is, I can settle anywhere, but at the moment, with the house still full of my m-I-lās furniture and STUFF, and nothing of mine, plus her disapproval of anything I re-arrange, Whanganui feels more like camping than being at home. This will change, and I will love the house and my new life when we get to that stage. In the meantime, I have a busy life here, and thatās fine too. For a bit.
Chanel. Yes. I donāt love all their perfumes to FB point, not even in the Exclusifs range, but even the ones I donāt want to wear say something coherent to me about life. Chanel really is my point of balance down here in the rabbit hole. However, inspired by all the mention of Ummagumma, and in line with my habit of sleeping around in the perfume world, I have found that Bruno Fazzolari will post to NZ, so Iāve ordered a set of samples. Something to share when you come up to Ak, which I hope will be soon. Dare you to wear a dress…
And I just realised that I misunderstood your comment about home. Or not, maybe it works both ways????
I love your cat stories!
Our unseasonably cold weather continues – we had such lovely weather leading up to the summer holidays, but it’s a distant memory now. I’ve had a week off, with another week still to go, which is quite a blissful thought. I’m sitting on the couch contemplating the day and testing a tiny drop of Guerlain’s Cuir Beluga. It’s still too sweet and vanilla, but at least I knew what to expect this second try.
I hope everyone in the cold parts of the US is keeping warm, we’ve been looking at footage of the snow in disbelief.
Youāre telling me the weather in unseasonable! It was only 11 in Whanganui yesterday, and windy with it. Weād call that the bottom end of a nice winterās day normally.
We drove home to 19, but the wind is high here too.
It’s warming up here so I am doing end-of-year chores like cleaning the compost bin and corralling tax papers. I’m wearing Un Bois Vanille.
I was looking at the Basenotes list of 2017 releases and saw that Star Trek had released “Uhura” this year. Too bad I don’t have any. Also, I noticed that FragranceNet has both Angel Muse and Twilly…I am thinking about getting both, but might not. I think both are nice, but with the amount of perfume I already have, purchases should probably be confined to things that blow my socks off.
I join you in my theoretical willingness to wear Uhura š
SOTD was Maria Candida Gentile “Cinabre”.
Top: ginger, pepper and pink pepper;
Mid: rose;
Base: opoponax, benzoin and vanilla.
I like this one – a kind of spicy powdery rose – although its lasting powers are mediocre. If I ever make up my parcel of MCG small sizes, this one might be in it.
Meeting today with the design company we want to remodel the apartment. Looks like it can’t start until late Feb and could take 3 months. Well, we shall see what the cost estimate is first. We have a fixed budget and will have to trim our ideas accordingly.
Belated congratulations on buying your new apartment! Sounds like you will have your hands full with renovation and remodeling, though.
Ha! No! We will have someone else’s hands full! :^D
But thank you for the kind wishes; that’s what counts. ;^)
Oh, thatās so great! Youāve had a long hunt, and itās super that youāve found something that suits. Iām glad for you both.
I caught a glance of Nichelle Nichols in the Dealer’s Room at GenCon back in either 2012 or 2013. She looked gorgeous!
An update on my mom and her cataract surgery: she is doing just fine. Her follow-up exam went really well, and she said that she could read “even the little letters at the bottom of the chart”.
SOTD = Byredo Reine de Nuit, from the sample stash. This nasty cold weather is calling some something that is rich, indulgent, and a little sweet. I’ve pulled out my heavy alpaca/wool blend socks, and may break out the ski socks if needed.
Yay for Mom!!
Glad everything went fine for your mom!
Great news for your mom! My father had both eyes done and doesn’t need glasses anymore. Amazing!
Ack! I need to proofread my copy a little better… should be “calling for something” up there. Grrrrrr.
Hooray! Wonderful news for your mom.
That is great news! So glad that your mom can read the fine print! ????
Yay!
Late checking in….look forward to going back and reading what everyone is wearing and how your days are going today. I am in my Shalimar EdP. Iāll find something for tomorrow to fit the theme but Iāve just been giving my FBs love this week. I ignore them a lot for sampling haha.
To update everyone on my Lucy bird who was injured for weeks- she is making a full recovery I believe! The doctors have been shocked! The bandage has come off of her leg, stitches out, and even got to take the collar off from around her neck a few days ago. Her little leg still looks pink and the skin needs to scale up and heal but no swelling, no infection etc. It is honestly the best Christmas present ever. I was devastated when I thought Iād lose her (or that sheād lose her leg)!
What a happy outcome! Tell her she is indeed a āpretty birdā!
So glad she’s continuing to heal!
Great news! Maybe the threat of chestnut stuffing and cranberry sauce as Plan B helped her concentrate on getting better. ;^)
Ha!!!
Very good news about Lucy! So happy about it!
Yay for you and Lucy! I love a happy ending ā¤
Awesome news and results for your Lucy bird! ????????
I’ve been wondering about Lucy for some time. Thank you very much for such a great update. š I understand it’s her on your gravatar pic – she’s a beuatiful bird.
And you smell gorgeous.
Yes thatās her in my gravatar. I tell her all the time she is my best friend ha! š Needless to say sheās even more spoiled now than before her injury!
You can’t spoil a beloved pet! So glad that your girl made a full recovery!
Woo hoo! That’s wonderful.
SOTD is Caron Nocturnes which I only have in edt. I came across it last week when I was looking for my bottle of Nuit de Noel. This one is all about the aldehydes, with floral and sandalwood, and a gorgeous dry-down. Thereās a very nice article about it on Fragrantica, as the forgotten aldehyde, with many gorgeous pictures. It makes me wish I could get hold of some older versions. On another topic, I was asked by someone to report back on how I liked the movie āCall Me by Your Name.ā My verdict: yes, itās over-hyped. It is so sloooow! There is some very good acting, but the special friendship/love relationship never rang true for me. I have friends who adore the book, so maybe Iāll try it, but I guess Iām out of sympathy with male coming-of-age dramas.
I’m days behind in reading comments; hope to catch up soon.
I (finally!) snagged a bottle of Clinique Wrappings yesterday, and am wearing it today. I would have bought it before Christmas but Lord and Taylor (only place it was available locally) did not have a tester out and refused to open a gift set to let me try it. So I walked away. Yesterday when I wandered back by, lo and behold a tester was on the counter! I sprayed, took one sniff, and the credit card leaped into my hand. Funny thing is, Wrappings is now 25% off after Christmas, plus I had another discount to go with it, so L&T lost money by not making that tester available earlier!
Be well, all.
Wow, great deal! Congrats on walking away at the right time.
Enjoy your new bottle! Even more so because you saved some money!
Nice how that worked out!
I briefly started the day in Ummagumma, but it was a 100% disaster. (It smells amazing on my husband.). I then switched to Amsterdam by Gallivant – it’s lovely. Smells like L’Eau by Andy Tauer with pink pepper. I would choose L’Eau first, but would never turn down a bottle of Amsterdam if someone offered.
I do find the disconnect between description and scent very strong in this case, however. Amsterdam in fall? Try Riverside, CA in March.
So late today. I wore Harem Rose by Fort & Manle because it was released in 2017. I bought a sample pack a while ago. Harem is a very nice powdery, musky, incensey rose. Very pretty. It reminds of Calypso by Piguet. F & M is a great house and their bottles are some of the nicest that I’ve seen. My favorite of the line is Fatih Sultan Mehemed, a lovely green floral.
Sounds nice! And those bottles are sort of underworld great and very tempting.
The bottles look amazing. I’ve been thinking of you on your daily commute to work in this frigid weather. Brrrr. No fun.
