Happy Boxing Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a little dab of Diptyque Eau des Sens while I try to wake up.
Reminder: on 12/29 we're doing Best of 2017...wear one of your favorite fragrance releases of 2017.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD = No.19 EDP
Lots of errands to run today…will be back later!
Woo hoo, this is a first for me – first comment in a SOTD post!
Bear will be pleased with you use of emoji on this post..
That’s the spirit! I paid $0.99 for more emojis but if you don’t have the app, you can’t see them. (And am on laptop right now so no emojis).
Getting ready for the voyage?
The panic for getting ready begins tomorrow :-)…although I still do have all morning on the 28th.
The First Lady has arrived! Hope your holiday was fabulous✌????
LOL. It was fabulously “just right”!
Joining you in wearing No 19! Perfect iris/leather combination.
Mmmm, we are wafting something wonderful!
I got No. 19 for Christmas! Woohoo!
Yay, congratulations! Is your house closing on January 19th? It’s a sign!
No. 19 is like the Energizer Bunny for you… it just keeps on going and going and going!
Oh yes and there had been no complaints chez hajusuuri – w00t!
I started today with No 19 extrait and in the evening topped it off with EDT.
Iris by L’Erbolario, a good, inexpensive Iris…
Tea is matcha with some foamed soy milk
Currently listen to Celine Dion holiday album
Hope everyone had a great holiday <3
I just looked up this fragrance and must purchase. Powdery iris? Yes please! Enabler pin!!
I checked this out, too. It got good reviews and is perfumath free.
Your tea of the day sounds delicious!
I’m trying out a combo the Chanel rep at Neimans suggested and it is divine! I was complaining that my Sycomore Edp is too smoky and she suggested layering with Gabrielle (which I also don”t care for that much). Together they’re amazing!
I have a hair appt tomorrow and I’ve been Googling “chic bangs”. I know this won’t go well but every ten years I have to remind myself how awful I look with bangs by getting bangs.
I do the same… not so much bangs, but with some other cut style I think will work. The nice thing is…hair grows, so that’s why playing around with is fun. Here’s hoping you find those perfect bangs.
good luck with the bangs this time!
HA HA HA!
I saw a picture of some celebrity or other recently, where the beauty/fashion blogger was raaaaving about how hot and sexy and “now” the celebrity’s bangs were. Me, I was looking at the picture and thinking, “Wow, she looks like me in 2nd grade. That’s SO not sexy.”
(Not to say that bangs in themselves are awful, just really amused that a style considered appropriate for 8-year-olds ca. 1976 is now considered hot.)
Yes. Bangs have a way of looking like elementary school and corduroy rompers and Elmers School glue.
If 1976 is now hot, I’m finally in style! Lol! Not humiliated to admit that yesterday I watched some old Christmas show from the 70’s- you know: Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Cher, Glen Campbell. Looking back, they all seemed so fresh and “real.” Strange days of nostalgia I’m experiencing…
Lol!, at the bangs. I’m lucky to have finally found a stylist that talks me out of the “chic bob” I always think my unruly hair will look cute in.
I used to try bangs every 3-4 years. I blame Amelie. However, my hair has become curly over the last 5 years and the last time I got bangs it was even worse than usual. No more bangs for me.
Amelie did it for me…but I came out looking like Jim Carrey from Dumb and Dumber
Ha! Cute. That has it’s own charm.
Yep. Curly hair + bangs is not a winning combination. But I do love heavy bangs + chic 20s bob – a cut that’s not an option with my curly hair (Though I am, incidentally, growing my hair into a curly bob ATM.)
LOL… I just cut my own bangs two days ago. I probably look 8 but at 51, I could stand to look younger. Anyway, I like it so who cares. Years ago I figured out that people are so focused on themselves they barely notice what you look like. Beauty comes from within! Enjoy your bangs.
Enjoy your new bangs, I am sure you look great.
You are so right about people being focused on themselves.
The combo sounds wonderful. Looks like you were looking for some florals that is nonexistent in Sycomore.
and I am Camp Bangs. I have ruler straight hair and it grows fast…I have taken to trimming my bangs when they get to be slightly below my eyebrows…if I didn’t do it myself, I would probably be at the hairdresser’s every third week, I kid you not.
Good luck at the stylists! With my big hair, bangs would be channeling ‘Mall Hair’ circa the 1990’s (a decade I’d rather forget)…..
Happy boxing day! Scent of the day is PHI Une Rose de Kandahar by Tauer Perfumes.
You both smell amazing.
You smell gorgeous. Happy boxing day!
Yesterday, I wore Lyric. I’m about to get into the shower and wear Hedonist. I hope it will get me through the post holiday dragging butt.
Hang in there! You smell beautiful.
On the 2nd day of Christmas I’m wearing PHI from Andy Tauer. It goes well with rose marmolade gingerbread.
Is everyone enjoying the Holidays? Did you find something good under the tree?
You smell wonderful! PHI is a great holiday scent choice????????
I had a great Christmas. My guy spoiled me too much. I’m always amazing at what a great gift giver he is…he really listens and remembers when I say I like/need things. Plus he got me perfume also!
I got No. 19 which I did ask for. But unexpectedly I got an amazing knife set (I love to cook and mine were getting rather dull), a hiking pole, a pair of binoculars for bird watching while hiking, and a new purse that I’d just casually pointed out one day!
Those are all wonderful gifts. I’m a hiker and a birder too so I really mean they are wonderful!
At work since 6am. Super busy week in front of me.
Wearing Queen by Queen Latifah. I needed something sweet and fun to face the brutal cold temperature so early this morning when I left home.
Have a nice Tuesday everyone!
Stay warm! It’s so crazy cold.
Thank you Lillyjo. I will. It is horribly cold.
You smell fabulous! Sorry you had to jump back into the madness so soon! Stay warm and safe ❄️
Thank you Deva. Trying to survive…
I would like to tell you that I got Corsica Furiosa from my husband as his Christmas present for me. First time trying it and it is SUPER GOOD! I understand now why you like it so much. Another love after Ummaguma this year. I see myself wearing it like crazy during summer time
Hang in there!
Thank you! ????
Oof on the early and cold day! Hope your SOTD is helping a little.
It was brutal out there. I hope you were able to stay warm!
SotD is Opium
perfume concentration, vintage formula
(from that cute little inro-like bottle with tassle)
I hardly wear this by day, but hey, today its sill xmas AND I have to beat horrible hospital smells
Ha! Vintage Opium can beat any smell, and do it beautifully.
I also own a bottle of a newer formulation of Opium. Its not bad, but feels like a different scent.
Nothing beats the dry down of vintage Opium, so good!
You will bring an amazing scent with you and brighten everyone’s day. Still thinking of your mother, and sending her positive energy and healing vibes.
It’s such a pity hospitals can’t be better smelling. You are right about putting something on to at least give you some olfactory pleasure.
Hope your mum is making progress.
When I was in hospital with Alex after his operation I could hear the nurses outside his room beginning to talk about a strong smell of rotting flowers, like dead lillies. A small group formed , all wondering where the smell was coming from. I’d just spent the afternoon in the perfume counter trying various Baiser Vols and la pantheres and chanels etc. so knew it was me…,had to quickly open the window and sit next to it, pretending to read.
But none of those smell of rotting flowers, I’m glad you provided them with some much needed olfactory enrichment
How’s your husband? Is he healing well?
Yes she is making progress. Slowly. Baby steps. I think she still has to stay in hospital for at least another week. But she is managing more and more stuff by herself now. For instance, today she started taking her medication / pills orally, before they were given by a drip (is that the right word?).
It is, or intravenously. Glad to hear she is on the mend!
I work in hospitals a lot. Always amazed at the few patient rooms which state, “no perfume allowed” . I understand the idea of not wearing a lot of scent around sick people but Jeez the whole place smells of poop and wounds ( in various amounts, depending on which hospital). What is the big deal about a little Chanel No. 5? My latest idea is every hospital should have a coffee bar to improve the ambient aromas.
NOT at the hospital for a few more days and wearing Sula Musk oil.
Opium pretty much obliterates everything in its path, in a good way, of course. Sending your mom healing thoughts!
Bumped into this clip and, while I’m not one of them, thought of all the discontinued-fragrance fans who comment here. I’m guessing that for them this could be one more reason to visit Vienna.
Cool clip, I could spend hours just looking. Thanks!
I love this guy and have been watching his youtube videos for a while now…he also does great reviews on many under the radar , inexpensive fragrances that most reviewers never touch upon. His wife also has a lovely and extensive mini collection.
Hey CM8! There’s another guy I watch a lot called fragranceview. He’s really into naturals. You might enjoy watching.
Thank you, lillyjo! I watch Peter of Fragranceview as well! In fact he is probably my favorite youtuber as he really says it like it is! I am already saving my pennies when and if he decides to release an all natural perfume one of these years
He is delightful! Not that one needs another reason to visit Vienna. Mode-Atelier Knize is there, too.
SOTD Idylle Love Blossom but all I can smell is my shirt which was sitting over a bar of soap that was scenting the drawer. Back to work and trying to keep moving, but I’m dragging today.
SOTD is Maharanih, tea of the afternoon is a Sumatra Oolong Barisan served from a teapot almost identical to the one in today’s picture!
Happy Boxing Day, my dear NSTers! I had a deep hankering this morning for some sweet, acidic rose—something like Rose Infernale. Alas, I’m at my parents’ house with only my mother’s (very sweet or else migraine-inducingly vintage) perfumes, and only a few samples of my own, so I went for the closest thing: Penhaligons Halfeti. It’s a lovely rose, but it clashes kind of horrifically with my mother’s fried butternut squashes cooking away in the kitchen. Oof.
Hope you’re all doing wonderfully! What are some smelly presents you’ve all gotten? Most of my presents (from my parents) are clothes, but I did get a bunch of lovely-smelling l’Occitane hand creams.
I bought myself some Pistachio shower gel from Ulta, a last minute deal, plus coupon, it was basically free.
Mmm pistachio shower gel! That sounds delicious. I do love pistachios. I’ll have to try that Do you know if it’s just pistachio scented, or if pistachio oils are good for skin or something? (Like almond?)
It looks like it has some vitamin A and E in it, but pretty much, I think it just smells like pistachios with a little whip cream thrown in.
I got a couple of smelly goodies that I wished for…..YAY! LOL
My in-laws gave me a bottle of Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt, and my brother-in-law gave me a gift card to get Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit (which I immediately ordered last night before it goes away!)
I also treated myself to the new SJP Stash Unspoken, which should arrive today from Ulta. Hope it’s what I’m expecting!
Hope everyone had a lovely holiday with friends and family…..I already know that everyone smells fabulous!
Those are some lovely smelly presents! Please let us know how you like Ginger Biscuit. (Blind buy, or have you already tried it?) It sounds delicious.
Ginger Biscuit is a blind buy…..but I love Demeter Gingerbread enough to know that it’s gonna be a winner! LOL
From the looks of things on Ebay, if I didn’t love it for some reason, I could definitely sell for a profit…WOW!
I love Wood Sage and Sea Salt! Your in-laws rock.
Oh wow, I just looked up the notes for Ginger Biscuit, and it sounds deeeeelicious. Who knows, perhaps you’ll want to swap a decant of it at the swapmeet?
Stash Unspoken? A flanker I haven’t heard of. How is it compared for the original?
YES! I think it just launched in the last couple of weeks or so! It’s supposed to be a lighter version of Stash original!
I bought the Lovely Sheer (lighter version of Lovely) and I LOVE it, so hoping Stash Unspoken is the same idea….
MERRY CHRISTMAS (belated) to you and T-Rex!
Right back at you! Enjoy your new fumes????????
Yay! So glad you made it under the wire for Ginger Biscuit! I love Wood Sage too. You will be wonderfully fragrant in 2018!
Ginger Biscuit is delightful.. I am wearing Orange Bitters today under a base of sandalwood e.o.
I got a bottle of Bois Farine from my family, and I gave myself the traveler set of Cuir d’Ange, Santal Massoia, Vetiver Tonka and Osmanthe Yunnan. My dad gave my mom a bottle of Chanel No. 5 EDP, which my three year old niece threw at her (she was supposed to take granny her present). Fortunately, the living room is carpeted!
That is an EXCELLENT gift-to-self. I’ve been contemplating that for years (though with different scents). And Bois Farine is pretty lovely.
Oh my goodness, I’m so happy that bottle of CN5 didn’t break!!!!
Believe me, we were all happy too! Everyone stopped breathing.
Yikes on the No. 5!! Congrats on your fragrant lovelies, great selection of Hermes there.
Our friend who joined us for Christmas Eve gave me a La Source body duo from Crabtree & Evelyn. Always happy to get bath items. I gave my husband one of those pear LUSH soaps that was the daily lemming awhile back.
Oooh I hadn’t heard of that; it looks lovely! Does it smell quite marine?
I do so love Lush. Haven’t tried any of the Daily Lemming items, though
My sense of smell isn’t quite fully back. But It does seem marine-like. Pleasant.
I love the La Source body products from C & E.
I got Oeillet Bengal from hubby, plus ordered a bunch more stuff for myself off ebay (vintage Cuir Ottoman, L by Lolita Lempicka and MH La Fumée Ottoman, squee!)
That all sounds fabulous. I love MH La Fumée (the original?); is Ottoman a flanker of that? How does it compare? I also love the Aedes bottles; they’re so pretty.
I think Ottoman is the same as the original Fumée with a bit of oud added.
I got No. 19!
Excellent! Liquid backbone.
Btw, you still owe me that picture of the skirt you rigged up last Friday!
It’s the year of tea for me, besides the usual gift cards. I did get smellies from my sister-in-law and niece in the form of homemade body bar soap, lip balms and a mini candle. Last year, they made chocolates. It’s nice to see them collaborating on a Christmas project.
I got too many from me to me perfume gifts – among others, I got Dusita La Douceur de Siam, Grandiflora Queen of the Night, Bottega Venetta Velours, a 50 mL bottle of JM Myrrh and Tonka, Rising Phoenix attars and the newest one just ordered today – Slumberhouse Baque. I think that’s it.
Tea and homemade presents sound lovely
Wow, your you-to-you presents are all excellent picks!!! Enjoy! Donatella forgives.
Caron Pois de Senteur vintage parfum
Good morning everyone! Feeling exhausted but happy after a Christmas full of little ones and snacks. Wearing Moss Gown.
Wow, that perfume sounds incredible.
On my top 10 list for sure! Well worth a try.
A Christmas miracle for me, my boss gave me today off! No dealing with returns today! Its 5 degrees plus wind chill and 7 plus inches of snow. I’m not going anywhere. I forgot about this weeks project and am in a total perfume fail. Because it’s so cold I thought I could handle more than 2 dabs if Black Orchid. Then I thought, oh I should see if I can wear Hanae Mori Haute Couture in the cold(since I couldn’t over the summer) now I just have a headache. But I’m home and warm so yay! Wishing everyone a good day!
What a wonderful gift from your boss! Enjoy your peaceful day off. Stay warm!
I dislike a lot of things about my job, but my boss is pretty awesome!
Hope you have a great day, at home- snug, warm, and most importantly NOT at work????
Enjoy your day off! Nice to have peace.
So great you have the day off! Rest, rest, rest…. You truly deserve it!
Thanks, you deserve some rest, yourself!
Yay, enjoy your day off, reeking havoc!
Thanks! I’m definitely reeking!
I was excited to get a sample of Black Orchid in my Sephora Play box this month. I love it. Plus, they usually send samples I don’t like (I’m looking at you, My Burberry Blush and BonBon)…
I really like Black Orchid, it just doesn’t like me. I can only wear it very lightly and in certain conditions: ( I have the tiny roller ball sample that should last me forever.
I have a tiny mini and, ditto. I wish I could wear it more because I really do like it but it’s so nuclear that I shy away. Maybe I should apply with a toothpick…
Happy that your boss gave you a belated Xmas gift! Enjoy!
Hope you had a good relaxing do nothing day! It’s the gift of time!
Back to work, but I feel pretty good after four days off. I’m wearing Ummagumma, a favorite of 2017.
We 2017 Favorite Twins! High Five! ????
Woohoo! It’s probably tied for favorite of the year with one other… and I’ll be wearing that one on Friday.
I’m taking advantage of my office mate being off today and wearing lots of sprays. I brought my sample so I can reapply later!
I’m pretty sure I’ll buy a bottle of this using the $15 coupon he included with my purchase of Unsettled.
Nice! It always feels like a home run when you get a perfume you’re crushing on at a discount! Enjoy your bottle when you get it. How is Unsettled? That’s a newer release as well?
Yes, Unsettled was also released this year. It was made for the Nevada Museum of Art for an exhibition of the same name. One of the inspirations is Patou’s Colony, which I’ve never smelled. Unsettled falls in the same vein as Seyrig and Room 237 but adds the fruitiness of pineapple.
I got my sample of Ummagumma in the same package, and I immediately fell in love with it. I like Unsettled, but I need to spend more time with it.
I have a sample of Unsettled that I’ve put away until spring? Should I try it now? Judging by the notes I assumed it wouldn’t be at its best in the winter chill.
I really liked Unsettled – the pineapple was very prominent on my skin and it made me smile. I think it would be wonderful in warmer weather.
Kpaint, yeah probably best to wait until it’s a bit warmer out.
Love that name!!Ummagumma!Sounds like a fun perfume!
That’s my next bottle unless I get enamored with something else…Slow Dive, maybe.
Good morning y’all….and Happy Boxing Day!
Back at work, which is always a little tough after a holiday weekend, but it’s good to get back to my routine. I get lazy pretty fast if allowed to lay around too long!
Wearing a sample of Les Infusions de Prada Amande. My mother-in-law gave me a bag full of samples that she got from Nordstrom, and this is a goodie from that…..
I’ve been seeing that one mentioned a lot. I bet you smell fabulous! Hopefully the office grinch left his grinchiness at home today. ????
The Grinch is home today! LOL It’s a State holiday, so I’m the only one here, which is a nice, QUIET way to ease back into things….
Lucky you! Enjoy the mellow day.
I need a sample of that. I do love almond.
How is the Prada Amande? I love almond scents and I love Infusion d’Iris Absolue and also Infusion d’Homme. If it is a powdery almond I need to have it!
It is definitely a powdery almond! Nice and light on my skin….very close to the skin too. I’m betting you’d love it!
Mmm. I love that stuff. I think it’s my favorite of the Prada Infusions, and for people who like powder + almonds, I’d recommend it. I got a mini at fragrancenet, I think (?) for $12 or so, which I decanted into an atomizer. Some minis won’t decant easily, but the Prada ones seem to.
Hoping everyone had a great holiday! I was exhausted from 3 mad days at work and spent Christmas Eve day runnning errands to grocery stores (Fred Myers was PACKED!), doing laundry, post-office, blah blah blah.
Spent Christmas eating and sleeping since once again it rained all day. Feeling a bit recharged today so I’m sporting the lovely Salomé on a very frosty morning.
I’m headed into town to pick up T-Rex’s belated Christmas gift. I bought her a slim little hiking pack so she can carry her own treats, a bit of water, and an extra set of keys when we go on day hikes (which we haven’t in a while because the weather is not cooperating).
Hope everyone is able to take the day to recover from the festivities.
What a great gift for T-Rex! I hope you two can try it on a hike soon. Stay warm, and enjoy your day in Salome.
What a great gift for T-Rex!
Happy christmas T Rex…what a great gift. hope the weather clears soon so you can get out for a walk.
I love doggy backpacks. My dachshund wasn’t quite strong enough to carry one, and those long backs are not really made for carrying.
Hope you can soon do those long walks again with her.
That hiking pack for T-Rex sounds really good and cute. I hope you both can go on a hike soon. The weather is really scary in many places now
What a cute gift for T-Rex! And I see you skanked up with Salome!
I’m wearing Bois Farine and enjoying a very, very cold day from the living room of my parent’s house. I’ll be heading back to much warmer climes tomorrow.
It always amazes me how different a perfume is from a dabbed vial versus sprayed from a bottle. If you had told me there was iris in Bois Farine when I was trying it from the dabbler, I would have taken your word for it but I never smelled it, just yummy woods. But sprayed, the iris is the first thing that really catches my attention, and it’s just so darn beautiful!! What an awesome surprise.
You smell fantastic!
That always amazes me too- the dabbed vs sprayed thing…
Merry Christmas again! Hope you’re not feeling too sad about the day after. I’m wearing Tacit as it suits the heat and mugginess. They’ve started hay making on the hill opposite and it reminds me of when I was a kid lifting bales onto the tractor and getting incredibly sunburnt, scratched and tired with terrible hay fever but loving it. The satrs have been extra twinkly recently: Sirius just sparkles like crazy ( across from Orions belt ) …the dog days of summer are here!
Enjoy the beauty of nature and your WARM temperatures! We are freezing here today…..
Sounds wonderful! I loved the stars in the southern hemisphere when I spent Christmas in South Africa.
Mmm. I adore the smell of fresh hay.
Oeillet Bengale for me today. This is another one I wasn’t too sure of but my husband wanted me to get. As usual, he was right. Don’t wear it near often enough. (Maybe the travel spray gets lost in the shuffle.)
Happy Boxing Day! The husband is happy already…his team won their match.
Still waiting for the cats’ gifts to arrive. I ordered them almost a month ago but didn’t realize they were coming from overseas….
You smell wonderful! This was my husband’s gift to me.
Enjoy it! I really do love it.
SotD = Ambre Narguile
Over the past several days I alternated AN with LADDM. The spicy warmth contrasting with the cool resins is delicious. The Tauer dry down is long lasting yet gentle. I adore it.
This morning I heard my neighbor rolling his trash and recycling cans to the curb. I sat inside the warm house thinking how cold he must be, then laughed when I realized I forgot to put mine out. Brrr, cold hands! Thank goodness for neighbors who know what day it is.
It’s jarring to be back to the workaday world, but a bit of a relief as well. The Time Being is, in a sense, the most trying time of all. Hope everyone has leftovers to warm up for dinner and a cookie or two or a bite of chocolate for dessert.
Oh! It took me a while to figure out that it wasn’t Monday this morning, and I’ll bet no one here took the trash out either…
The trash truck came here at 08:21 this morning and woke me up >:o that’s too early to be awake during the holidays!
SOTD is Papillon “Anubis”, to make travelling more pleasant. The Ryanair flight was fine, not just by their but by any standards. We have checked into a beachfront Airbnb apartment for a week.
I’m not a tea person but right now I’m drinking a “Capricho del Obispo” tea which is black tea, cinnamon, verbena and sloe gin, made with hot milk rather than water. A great Winter drink. :^)
You smell great, but that « tea » sounds rather dodgy. Have a great holiday!
My mom loves Ryanair and agree with cazaubon on the assessment of the tea Enjoy your week in the apartment and your Anubis!
I’d like to try that tea! I hope you have a wonderful time in Spain.
Hurray for a decent flight! Certain airlines do make it a game of chance, don’t they?
I only have samples of four 2017 releases, so I am going to wear them this week whether they are the ‘best’ or not.
SOTD is Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Bergamote Calabria. It’s a nice but rather unremarkable bergamot with terrible longevity (although all bergamot centric scents seem to have terrible longevity on my skin). OK, but not the best Allegoria I’ve tried.
I have to actually google releases from this year…I am horrible at keeping up with new releases!
So am I. Got two of my four only today, must pre-test them before Thursday and Friday. As for the other two (including my today’s SOTD), I had samples for some time, but only tried them during this weekend. This project encourages me to try more new stuff.
I’ll have to think about 2017 releases – I know I’ve tried a few new things, but I’m not sure I have any samples on hand. No perfume as I contemplate the day, our glorious summer weather disappeared yesterday. Farmers are pleased to have rain, I’m not so delighted.
My new bottle of Idole will be a big comfort I bought it as my present to myself, but then I decided it was somehow less self-indulgent to call it a present from my beloved – so he’s pleased he’s given me such a nice present!
Congratulations on your Idole, lovely choice!
Wearing L’Artisan Dzongkha, and old favourite. Happy boxing day!
Happy boxing day to you! It loks like the sydney- hobart race got off to a slow start but no doubt it has picked up by now.
Today’s SOTD is Chanel No 19 vintage EDP layered over the body cream.
My scented gifts this Holiday were bottles of No 19 and and vintage EL’s Knowing – the hubby let me pick, he was a little intimidated to choose for me.
I got No. 19 also! Yay us!
Excellent!! We are a couple of good-smelling scent-twins today!
Heh, I didn’t know No. 19 came in body cream! It’s a good thing I don’t use scented body creams / lotions.
hajusuuri – I normally don’t use creams but in this case, I am so glad I purchased the body cream, it’s deliciously rich and creamy – and fragrant!
LPRN Black Perfecto thanks to hajusuuri. Trying to kick the last of my cold before I have to start singing again next week.
Hope you get better soon!
I need to wear it more.
You smell good. Cold be gone!
Hello all! I am back home for a few days to unpack Xmas gifts and extra bags of bows and wrapping paper, and to be nurtured by my sweet kitties. I don’t have to do anything or go anywhere today after this, what a pleasure to stay at home! I began the morning in Jubilation 25 but when I got back home and checked my mail, found that my Christmas present to myself had arrived: samples of Zoologist Camel and Elephant! I couldn’t wait so sprayed one on the back of each hand. Wow, these two are winners! Elephant opens with such a juicy green smell. It’s now quieting down into something more meditative. Camel is very sweet, fruity, and spicy—might be a Lutens! But it also includes a real buttery aspect. These both seem subtle and complex. They’re great additions to the zoo! I have no plans this week, other than getting caught up on movies. I want to go see Call Me by Your Name which is on several Best 10 lists. I know it’s a cult book, but haven’t read it.
Welcome home! I neglected to ask for a sample of Camel with my LuckyScent order…will rectify next time.
Enjoying a lazy day around the house. I had a wonderful first Christmas in New Mexico. My love spoiled me. I am so amazed at what a great gift giver he is- he remembers things I say in passing I need or want throughout the year and then actually gets them. My perfume gift was No. 19 edp. Woot woot! I did tell him that was the perfume I wanted but everything else was a surprise.
We also opened presents with my mom, sister, BIL , and two year old nephew who was the cutest. He was overwhelmed with all his presents and just ran around with a constant smile on his face! I do really miss my son in Alabama, but he is coming out next week so I will get to see him soon!
That sounds like a wonderful Christmas, and how exciting that you’ll get to see your son for the new year!
Sounds like you had a wonderful time I’m so happy to see that!
I have misplaced your email! I wanted to send you a picture of my crazy skirt from the other day! Shoot me an email if you get a chance (mine is available if you click on the gravatar)!
Sounded like you had a wonderful Christmas!
Today was a balmy 8F when I was dressing this morning, so I decided to layer one of my favorite tuberoses, DSH Noel Enchante, over the matching body butter that I splurged on Saturday when I visited Dawn’s studio. More specifically, Noel a Enchante is a tuberose chypre, with a gorgeous base of oak moss, a tiny dose of patch, a light touch of jasmine, and some yummy benzoin and tolu. It’s probably her most unexpected fragrance from her annual holiday release, and easily wearable from fall into spring.
I had an amazing time visiting with Dawn on Saturday; a 2.5 hour sniffathon of new and revisited scents. I came away with a refill of a favorite, an update of an earlier fragrance, 2 body butters in scented with favorites, and multiple newer scents in Dawn’s adorable new 10ml rollerball pens. Save one other brief customer, I had all of Dawn’s time and attention to myself, and learned all about her inspirations for some of her new scents, her approach to her line of Japanese-inspired scents (believe it or not, Japan is now her biggest market!), and why I never ‘got’ Chanel No 5 until I tried a vintage ‘60s EDC. I could happily give up every other house and wear DSH exclusively! What a total treat to get the opportunity to spend the afternoon with one of the most genuine, thoughtful, generous, gifted, and vibrant people ever. Every visit is a total pleasure. If you’re ever in the Denver area, it is absolutely worth the 45 minute drive up to Boulder to visit her studio.
Wow, nice Christmas gift to yourself! I’d love to hear more about your experience and her explanation of 1960s vintage Chanel No 5 edc.
I can’t even wrap my head around 8 degrees F (!) Yikes! Stay warm!
Sounds super fun! So nice to have such an intimate experience.
That sounds incredible. I will definitely visit her studio if I’m ever in the area.
Stay toasty and fragrant!
What a great time at Dawn’s! I just ordered two of her incense scents, Become the Shaman and Hinoki. I love the Japanese influence.
I’m back from my sister’s house in Austin. SOTD is Dzongkha, one of three travel decants that I took with me.
Twins! Dzongkha is my scent of the evening for yoga class.
I am feeling a bit of the post-Christmas blues. Yesterday was so fun though with all the grandchildren and grown-up kids. It’s just that going from 16 for dinner to just me is a bit of a let-down. Going to shake myself out of it and go make a turkey pie for dinner. Husband had to work today so that doesn’t help either. The perfumed gift that I bought for myself (Aroma M Nobara-Cha) was a disappointment so I consoled myself with some on-line boxing day sales. I got a sample of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla with it though and it is definitely hitting the spot for me today. Thanks NST for being there on good days and not-so-good.
Sending good thoughts your way, ScentSpirit! I understand completely – it’s crazy (but fun) with everyone there, but too quiet and empty when they are gone. NST is a joy for many of us.
You’ve got it exactly! Thank you.
Hugs. This is my first Christmas without my 18 year old son and I have been melancholy today for sure. He was just here Thanksgiving and is coming next week, but still…missed having my “baby” on a Christmas.
I’m hugging you right back. Hang in there for another week!
I hope you get to see your crew again soon! And sorry your gift to self was a bust for you ????I quite liked Nobara-Cha, myself and contemplated it at one point but kind of forgot about it. I think I still have a bit of a sample left somewhere. Well, my perfume gift to self was not quite the hit I thought it would be so joining you in disappointing selections.
I’m sorry to hear that today is a let-down for you. Treat yourself gently. (It’s too bad that your new perfume didn’t knock it out of the park, but maybe revisit it in a month and it might be a better fit.).
Tobacco Vanilla is a beautiful, rich scent. You smell gorgeous.
Sending hugs, ScentSpirit!
Awww, sorry you’re feeling lonely <3 and that your perfume was such a letdown!
A big hug for you. I always feel like the week between Christmas and New Years is so hard. After New Years, it’s easier to get back to our versions of normal.
It was a HUGE adjustment for me these past two years, going from big family gatherings at my Mom’s place two the last two Christmas days completely on my own.And somewhat liberating as well!
It was a conscious decision on my part to do this after my Mom passed last year. Not to say that it will be like that indefinitely, but having my own company, great food and wine, music and my own thoughts, did me good.
Hope your day was not too much of a let down today!x
Hugs, ScentSpirit! Hopefully it won’t be very long before you see everyone again.
Thinking of you, ScentSpirit. I hope the day got easier.
Sorry you are feeling blue and disappointed. Hope you feel better tomorrow. Good times ahead with your son!
Continuing on with Fendi Theorema which is my most holiday of fragrances. I may wear it the whole week!
SOTD is Philosophy Amazing Grace–something light and quiet since my older son is getting his wisdom teeth out today and I don’t want to wear anything too strong in cause he’s nauseated. We had a nice, quiet Christmas. Gifted myself with a 1 oz bottle of Angel Muse and some Bronze Goddess whipped body cream, both found on deep discount at TJMaxx. Also found 2 Demeters there–Eggnog and Myrrh. I was a very good girl! Also saw gift sets of Philosophy Fresh Cream and The Body Shop White Musk EDT while there, but held off as the Fresh Cream is not that different from things I already have and I already have White Musk EDP. Sure is tempting, though!
I hope his surgery goes smoothly and he recovers quickly. You bought yourself some nice presents!
Best of luck to your son for getting his wisdom teeth out.
Sending healing thoughts to your son. Great haul from TJMaxx!
The link is to a NYT article about a new concept store started by one of the founders of MiN New York!I love her whole concept, from buying blindly “anything anything”,living with it for a month, then a big reveal party to tell you what it was you bought!
Happy Boxing Day!
That article was great! I really like the idea of removing all the marketing hullabaloo and just trusting your nose. I hope she does well in her new venture.
Sounds like Chandler Burr’s Untitled Series concept for NYC millennials. Thanks for sharing, johanob!
Maybe it’ll work for a novice but I don’t think that people who spent years in trying hundreds of perfumes are that influenced by “marketing.”
I have bottles that I bought to have those bottles – but they decorate my dresser, and it never occurs to me to wear those perfumes. And I bought decants of perfumes in the greatest packaging – because I didn’t want more than 10-15ml of them. I might be influenced to try perfume from the brand I like/respect or if I love the bottle but I wouldn’t be moved just by those to wear those perfumes.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas/holidays so far! I enjoyed having these days off after a very hectic December. Using up some samples I’ve got stashed at my parents, in Ambra di Nepal today.
Hello, NST! Happy Boxing Day! I’m pleased to report that Christmas dinner was a delicious success, despite us never having cooked a beef roast in the smoker before. We did learn a few tips to make the next time even tastier, so looking forward to that, even if it will be a while. Plenty of delicious leftovers for the rest of the week.
Some other good news on my end: my mom had a successful cataract surgery this morning. When I talked to her on the phone, she was still a little out of it from the anesthesia. I am planning on calling her back tomorrow to see how she is doing then.
SOTD = Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka, from the decant stash. It is absolutely perfect for this time of year.
Well being an Ophthalmic Theatre nurse of course I have to say YAY!! for a successful cataract operation!
Our patients’ reactions post-op when they can see-especially colors!!-again,is always priceless.Let me know how your Mom is doing!x
You smell great! And happy to hear your mom’s surgery was a success!
Hooray, that’s great!
Cataract surgery is such instant gratification! Happy to hear your big dinner went off without a hitch. Timing all the dishes to be done just right at the same time is an art form, no doubt about it. ????????
Is it? I’ve been advised that I’ll need it eventually in my right eye (etching on my lens) and I’m extremely apprehensive.
Yes, super easy, as far as ocular surgery goes. People that have advanced cataracts get the most bang because their visual acuity (if a lens implant is used) and clarity is immediately corrected. I had an early cataract develop due to retinal surgery the year prior (a side effect of instrumentation during retinal repair), so just didn’t notice much change. Most people are quite thrilled with not only he result, but the ease of surgery and quick recovery. It’s not without risks of course, but the percentage of bad outcomes is pretty infantismal.
Thanks, Deva – really good to hear.
Great news about your mom! And you smell wonderful…my bottle is out and I gave it a sniff when I read your SOTD!
Now that we are home I’m in Chanel No 19 EDT from my recent vintage bottle off Evil bay.
I ended up wearing Cuir de Lancome yesterday for Christmas dinner.
Note to self:
Follow your lunch and spray your perfume before you get dressed. I had a stain on my silk shirt in a very obvious spot from spraying the inside of my top AFTER I got dressed. Thankfully I had a backup shirt to wear.
We have about $200 on our Shoppers rewards card to spend. Soon the points are being transitioned to Superstore, so I wanted to get some Chanel Coco body butter today but the location we were at doesn’t carry Chanel. I’ll have to go to my local location this week and get my gift “to me”.
Have a lovely week everyone!
..follow your hunch, not lunch. Stupid autocorrect.
LOL! I try not to get perfume on my clothes so I will leave it to your imagination how I consistently achieve that ????????????
Spray nude! And let it dry before you get dressed.
I’m in SSS Pacific Forest. I LOVE SSS, but I’ve tried this one a few times now and am still on the fence. All the notes come together on me to create lipstick-like note that doesn’t really feel like ‘me’… I’ll keep trying it, though!
So interesting! I don’t get lipstick from PF at all – I get a lot of smoke up front, and then just … well, forest! So funny how scents behave differently on different skin. Fascinating!
