Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Atelier Cologne Mistral Patchouli. It's kind of cheating since it doesn't smell all that much like patchouli.
Reminder: 12/8 will be Patchouli Friday...what it says!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I am wearing Clinique Wrappings. Patchouli is listed, but it’s not a patchouli-centric fragrance, though I think I can detect a little patch in the background. Or not. So I am cheating too. 🙂
Love Wrappings, one of my favorite perfumes to wear around the holidays.
Wrappings is perfect on cold winter days.
It sure is! It develops differently when it’s warm out, I get more herbal/green notes when it’s warm and leather/ozone in the cool/dry weather.
Somehow I mostly wear it indoors, but I am sure it is going to smell beautiful on one of those crisp winter days. Must remember to wear it outdoors this winter.
YSL Opium. Patchouli is there for sure…
Vintage or new…?
Vintage (1992).
Nice! I really like the new one too.
I have not tried the new one, but I will give it a try when I stop by Sephora later today. How does it compare to the vintage?
I am not always the best at describing scents, but I would say it feels a bit more modern and lighter. Victoria over at BdJ has a great review if you’ve never read it.
I recently got a vintage mini. It’s a statement perfume, for sure! Not sure I could pull it off-maybe in tiny doses.
It is indeed a statement perfume. Beautiful! I wear a tiny spritz once in a blue moon. I need to be in the mood for it, which it rarely happens.
Gorgeous and very definitely a statement perfume!
Today’s SOTD is Réglisse Noire – I love the black licorice and star anise notes in this one, the dry down is all about the patchouli and vanilla.
Thanks for reminding me I have caron’s reglisse. I have not worn it in ages as it is on a very high shelf.
I always forget that I own this one! I find it so comforting and compelling. Between the anise, patchouli and vetiver, it’s a slice of heaven each time I wear it.
Dame Earth Mother. Patchouli and caramel. Yum.
Is it a twist on Angel?
I think it has some similarities but whereas I hate Angel with a passion (smells like dirt on me), I really like Earth Mother. The patch is pretty smooth and it’s not too too sweet IMO.
Gotcha, thanks!
It’s funny you should ask that, because I have seen those comparisons on fragantica. I have never worn Angel because it is my bff’s signature scent but I would say they are definitely similar.
Thanks!

Aldehydes, of course

Some iris, jasmine, and ylang ylang skulking around suspiciously………….
LOLOLOL ????????????????????????????
Very nice, reminds me of Shiseido Feminite du Bois and maybe a peachless Mitsouko? !
???????????????????? Time will tell
Carpe Diem
Peace ✌
????????????????????
Smelling good bear!, I wore that one yesterday, it’s one of my favourites. I haven’t had the good fortune to sniff Shiseido FdB, but Serge Lutens one was too short lived and quiet, when I tried it even tho the scent was wonderful. I agree 31RC has similarities to Mitsouko, also Jub 25, I also adore both of these.. a good chypre is hard to beat!
Thank you, mayfly !
Shiseido FDB was surprisingly short-lived on my skin, the cedarwood and plum disappeared quite quickly.
????????????
Thanks bear, I have a rule not to buy expensive quiet/short lived perfumes, no matter how gorgeous they are, so that’s good to know. I really like Tom fords plum japonais, and will get another sample of that one, have u tried it?
I have not tried TF PJ, mayfly.
So many perfumes, so little time…..
LOLOLOL ????
Femme Rochas and the rose note in Amouage Lyric Woman, are both lusciously plummy on my skin.
????????????
I’ve got the Shiseido extrait and EDP, both last approximately six hours (quietly) on my skin.
Thanks smokeytoes, that’s really helpful, as I will stop thinking about it, as I am partial to plenty of sillage, and wafts of perfume throughout the day.
Reminiscent of FdB? I’ll have to spritz that one tonight and see if I can pick up that reference!
It is very woody on my skin, cedarwood in particular, SmokeyToes.
I’ll be curious about your thoughts.
????????????
Workout twin today! I sometimes need a bit of encouragement to do it, and your posts are a pretty darn good nudge.
Excellent Jalapeno! ????????
I’m happy my posts encourage you!
Thanks! ????????????????????⭐
????????????????????
Hello! Lancome Jasmins Marzipan. Definitely no patchouli… it’s probably the opposite of patchouli. 🙂
I’ve been so curious about this one. How do you like it?
I love it, though I should say it’s very different than I expected from the notes. It reminds me a lot of TM Alien, jasmine sambac and cashmeran, but without the weird note. Just the beautiful parts! (I believe they’re both by Ropion.)
Laughing at “the opposite of patchouli” — that sounds like something I need to try!
I like that one a lot – I think it was done by Dominique Ropion? Anyway, you smell lovely.
SOTD is SSS Equestrian which does have a dallop of patchouli, so I’m still in the game!
Happy Almost Friday Day! Off to the salt mines✌????
You are probably more in the game than I am 🙂
I may press repeat for tomorrow. I’ve really enjoyed this today.????????
Have a safe day after yesterday’s fire! Glad the entire thing did not explode!
Thanks, so far no more drama. ✌????
Vintage Molinard Habanita today. No patch, but I smell so good
Oh, there is patch in Habanita! And you do smell so good.
I still have the ghost of a gorgeous drydown on my wrists! Yesterday morning’s L’Arte di Gucci is still hanging around, smelling wonderful.
After my shower I think I’ll wear this one again.
I adore L’Arte di Gucci, both in edp and edt – boy Gucci sure knew now to make those powerhouse perfumes didn’t they? Gucci III is another gorgeous powerhouse from them.
What a wonderful rose perfume. I have a sample that I treasure!
Mon Parfum Cherie par Camille, this is wonderful stuff, so glad I gambled on a blind buy.
I’ve spent all morning making a Victorian style mob cap for my little girls school trip tomorrow, to a Victorian Christmas at a museum. It was a bugger, as I don’t have a sewing machine, but it looks very sweet, in a pretty vintage floral fabric. Looking forward to trying it on her when she gets home.
Bugger, that was my Mother’s substitute curse word and she wasn’t even a Brit !
LOLOLOL. ????????????????????????
????????????
Ha!!.. it’s a good word, definitely!
Isn’t it wonderful when blind buys work out?
I’m in Gucci EDP, enjoying the cumin note and exorcising the ghost of the ELDO Like This that I tried last night and did NOT enjoy, much to my surprise. I’m guessing that cumin with floral notes works better on me than cumin with vegetal notes … but it could probably be any number of other issues. In any event, now we know there’s more Like This for everyone else. 🙂
I was also pretty sure I’d love Like This, or maybe just really wanted to for Tilda Swinton’s sake. But, alas! Freeing up even more for others to enjoy.
Yes, exactly! Love Tilda Swinton and really wanted to like her namesake fragrance. Ah well, still love her. 🙂
I’m wearing Insolence eau de parfum which is delicious and comforting
Yum, love that one. U smel lovely!
I’m wearing Coromandel and one of the teachers said she just wanted to follow me around all day sniffing my wake.
???? You do smell great!
Can I come grade some papers in your library? I’ll be quiet, and will only occasionally walk by you and sniff.
I’m not surprised, so would I!
I was in the mood for Dior Homme Intense today. I still love it, although it’s in my wardrobe before I discovered niche.
I like Mistral Patchoulli quite a bit, a nice twist for a freshie.
Diorhomme intense is so lovely, and really blooms in cold weather!
A couple of drops of vintage(-esque) Cabochard, I think from the late eighties or early nineties, when it still had all that oakmoss in addition to patchouli. It’s SO amazing, a punch in the face with a leather glove, but in a good way.
Spoken like a true perfume lovers 🙂
I adore the vintage green perfumes, elegance with loads of oakmoss!
I’m wearing Givenchy III — patchouli and oakmoss. It is such a calming fragrance for me.
Robin, as soon as I saw the picture above, I knew you would be wearing an Atelier scent. Mistral Patchouli is so lovely.
Yes, they have a definite style!
I’m wearing the very patchouli forward Green Patchouli from Smell Bent. I’m almost to the end of my original 4ml travel size that I bought several years ago. Since I like, but don’t love patchouli, I think that another travel size will do, rather than a full bottle.
My bedtime perfume was Timbuktu, which suddenly had a different scent spin when I tuned-in to its patchouli. I had planned on wearing Ubar today, but this AM I was just not up for it. Still scentless, but I suspect that after my shower I will wear Plum, which also has patchouli (a sheer fractional thing this time) in its note recipe.
Oh, I should have worn Timbuktu this week!!
For some reason I am enjoying gourmands lately, so wearing Angel Muse today, mmmmm.
Mmmmm…. Is right!
You smell wonderful.
That will probably be my pick tomorrow.
Wearing Gianfranco Ferre Ferre edp today. It’s all the aspects o FM Iris Poudre I enjoy, without the aspects I don’t enjoy, so it’s a win for me.
I have a slight preference for Ferre too, as Iris Poudre has a brief…sweaty period, plus it’s a lot more expensive. Alas that the Ferre bottle is awkward to use.
I swapped away my IP as it gave me a headache, don’t remember sweaty. It felt raspy or dusty or something to me. I only have a decant of the Ferre (received in the same swap meet!) so haven’t had to wrestle with the bottle.
Scent twins with SmokeyToes today in Reglisse Noire. It’s making the dog sneeze.
Yesterday’s trip to find a warm, fashionable winter hat was a bust. The only non-knitted one that covered my ears was a quilted down-filled thing that looked like I was wearing an oven mitt. And it cost $200!
My eyebrows are looking great! 99% of the scabs are gone and the color is pretty.
I’ve given up in the hat thing. I find ear muffs actually keep my head just as warm (but I do have long hair so that helps). I missed your eyebrow news. Did you have them tattooed?
Microbladed!
Scent Twins! Sweet!
I forget how much I adore this perfume and rediscover it each time I wear it, approximately 3x a year. I need to remember to ‘shop’ my collection more frequently! 🙂
I’m so saddened by the fires that are yet again ravaging California – the Napa one hit me hard, but I used to live in Ventura so these current ones are just killing me. Blergh. I hope that all NSTers and their relatives and friends in the area of the fire are safe.
I wanted to wear a perfume today inspired by California but my problem was “Which one?”, because I am apparently powerless to resist buying or trying any scent that references California in its name or description. So, I’ve started my “California Dreaming” project. Today’s choice: Le Labo’s Musc 25. Thinking of you, Los Angeles.
Thanks for that, sistine. It makes me sad too. I lived in Ventura county as a child.
I will tag along on your California Deaming project and wear Terracotta Le Parfum this afternoon. I like it in cool weather because the florals last longer.
Sonoma Scent Studio has so many beautiful California-inspired perfumes. It’s amazing how much Jour Ensoleillé perfectly epitomizes Fall in N. CA (to me).
What a lovely tribute.
I have never been to California-midwestern girl my whole life- but the footage they are showing on the news is truly frightening. When they interview people who have just lost their homes (why oh why do they always do that!?) my heart just aches for them.
I took a trip to Calistoga in November, we saw a bit of the damage from the N. CA fires and it was truly devastating, it reminded me to always be thankful for every day we have.
It is sad. Fortunately, my family is safe, though my nieces’ schools are closed and close to the Skirball fire. I wore Musc 25 last night! I like the tribute idea, too.
I’m in Van Cleef & Arpels Moonlight Patchouli, even if I consider it mostly as a suede-iris fragrance.
Tomorrow my company holds an annual meeting of all employers. There’ll be an official part and then a dinner and a party, so I won’t be here to report my sotd.
Enjoy the party Lucasai! Have fun!
Suede-iris sounds very nice. I’m imagining you smell polished and perfect. Have a great party!
I love that picture, Robin–the cobalt blue/bright yellow color combination is a winner. Today I’m trying Patchouli Patch from a recently re-discovered envelope of L’Artisan samples that I must have picked up somewhere. (Nice find!) It’s what you might call a soft, gentle kitten of a patchouli, with some spice and sandalwood. Might work for people who don’t really like patchouli much. I like this, though I do prefer the bolder ones such as Coromandel or Borneo.
hi Calypso, we’re L’Artisan Parfumeur house twins today!
I too like the picture Robin chose. I happen to have the Atelier Cologne postcard with that image on my desk. A nice coincidence. 🙂
They do have lovely art direction over at Atelier Cologne!
A kitten-like patchouli sounds pretty good to me. I’ve been wearing some BIG ones this week, and will probably need to take a break afterwards, even though I have been enjoying them.
SotD = L’Artisan Parfumeur L’eau de Caporal
The patchouli in this one hides behind other notes like it does in Mistral Patchouli. btw, Robin, you smell great.
Citrus and herbs, L’eau du Caporal smells like Irish Spring soap. It’s wonderful on my son, and I like it too. Loved those TV commercials.
Hope this isn’t TMI, but I want to share a small victory. A year ago I began taking a doctor prescribed vitamin/mineral supplement to combat a chronic deficiency. Yesterday my lab test results showed improvement. So I’ll keep up the regimen, though the pills are hard to swallow, and my skin handles scent very differently since I began the treatment.
Anyone else with good news, little or big, please share. I need it today.
Congrats on your improvement. Small victories, right!
Thanks, you’re exactly right, the little wins can make all the difference.
Excellent news, Tiffanie! And yes, we do need more good news.
thank you, Robin! and NST has good news for my nose every day.
Good news Tiffanie! Keep going!
thx, pl67! 🙂
That’s really encouraging, good for u for persevering!
thanks, mayfly! slow and steady can win the race.
Congratulations tiffanie! !
Onward ???? and upward ????‼‼‼
????????????????????
thx, Bear! woot woot!
Yay for good news! Agree we need as much as we can get. Appreciate even the small stuff.
heh heh, as a person who too often sweats the small stuff, it’s good to find sometimes the small stuff pays off nicely. 🙂
Yayyy!!
whoo-hoo! thx GateGirl 🙂
Great news Tiffanie! Continued improvement for you!
thanks a bunch, lillyjo!
Hooray for small victories!????
thanks for the hooray, madtowngirl! I’m a big fan of small victories. 🙂
Congrats for your good news!
thanks, Jalapeno!
Glad to hear your health has improved! Good health truly is priceless.
thank you, cazaubon, you’re 100% right about good health. Thoughtful eating, exercise, and sunscreen are my favorite forms of health care. Oh, and perfume. 🙂
Congratulations! Inspired by you, I just bought some multivitamins. Hopefully I’ll be as diligent as you at taking them.
thanks, sistine. 🙂
Yes, do it! My doctor told me she takes a multivitamin every day.
Robin, can you tell me where the picture at top of post is from? I am quite liking the randomness of all the objects.
Sorry — it is from Atelier Cologne. They did similar still life photos for all (or most?) of their fragrances, this one is for Mistral Patchouli.
hi GateGirl, one of my favorite purchases ever is the postcard/sample discovery set from Atelier Cologne. All of the images are charming.
Thanks, both!
I’m heavily patchoulied(?) in Oriza L. Legrand’s Horizon. I kind of forgot about this one, and I was originally planning to wear PPC Rose Boheme today. Horizon was sitting right next to it, a fresh decant that I hadn’t even screwed the sprayer into yet. Wow, it’s a super strong blast of sweet musty patch that is calming down to a salted chocolate patchouli. It’s a must try for patchouli lovers.
Today sampling DSH Dark Moon from my holiday sampler. Opens with an amazing deep chocolate note. Spices, woods, I’m not smelling the red wine but I’m sure it’s there. Really like it from the dabber- Might need to get a travel size spray.
Busy week at work, i hardly have time to keep up with things here. And my mother is not well…she had some tests/scans, next week we’ll hopefully hear more. Though I am fully aware the news may turn out bad. 🙁 Its keeping me busy as well.
Sotd is Sycomore.
I dont have much patchoulis, so saving my patch for tomorrow (Black orchid or Bond T….)
Oh and if you like gloomy, cloudy and mysterious tv (Lynch, The Killing, or if u wish Stranger things was a bit more serious/less tongue in cheek), i highly recommend the German series Dark on Netflix. I really enjoyed it!
Dealing with a parent’s illness is tough. I hope the news is better than you anticipate.
hang on tight, Jiji, waiting for news like that is difficult. hope things turn out ok.
I hope you have good news Jiji. Sending warm thoughts.
I so hope the news is good news jiji..so tough.
Hang in there!
You smell great.
Sounds very stressful. Will keep you in my thoughts.
Hoping the news is better than expected. Keeping you in thought.
Sending good thoughts to you and your mother.
So sorry to hear about your rough week at work. And then, dealing with a parent not being well sounds even more stressful. I hope you get some good news and a bit of rest soon.
Sending lots of positive vibes for your mom!
I’m sending positive thoughts and mental hugs to you and your mom.
Best of mornings, all. I’m wearing my dearly-loved Coromandel, the first Exclusif I ever bought. I remember the anticipation of the visit to the Chanel boutique in Melbourne, the hesitation, the deliberation, the triumph of the final decision, the intense pleasure of owning it. I should wear it more, both for its own sake, and for the memory of the purchase. I think it’s fair to say that I’ve become a little more blasé about my purchases since then. I don’t like that,I find. Blasé is bad; unappreciative; ungrateful; boring, actually. I must think about that. In the meantime, I smell gorgeous.
Yesterday was a strange day. My Head of School became sick. It took me and two others four hours to get her to a doctor at an emergency clinic, pick up her prescription, buy some groceries to get her through the weekend, and then home. By the time I got back to work, I was limp, and there was still the Dean’s dinner to face. The political hot potato I was handed (in the most charming way) is so big and so hot that I’ll have to think carefully how to proceed. I also got a message to bustle about and hurry up, all very jokey and matey, but there, nevertheless. Hmmmm. I will be as speedy as good decisions and consultation allow, but I won’t be hurried into something that hurts my instincts. Anyway, it’s all Monday’s problem. Today has different issues to deal with, speaking of which, I’d better pootle off and get on with them. Be well, all.
SOTD is Beloved. It supposedly has patch in the notes but it’s mostly floral to me.
So, so beautiful. A bottle would last me a lifetime, but I’m still hoping one day for swap for one (since I know it would last a lifetime, I just can’t bring myself to BUY it)
I’m all patched up in Angel Parfum du Cuir.
Very much participating today in PG Coze
Mmm… love that one but prefer it in hot weather. The heat brings outthe incense.
I am patchouli-less (I think?) in Narciso for Her EDT, purchased yesterday in a gift set with a body lotion and shower gel. I’ve been spritzing testers at every chance for the past few months, and loving the fragrance. Today…wow, has it faded fast. Six spritzes (for me, that’s a lot) seven hours ago, and I pretty much have to glue my nose to my skin to get anything. At least the vomitous note I got yesterday from the far dry-down has disappeared.
Not sure what I will make of this one in the long run. Am kind of miffed, because I thought I’d tested sufficiently.
For tomorrow, Patchouli doesn’t really play well with me, except for (sometimes) Borneo — and since I don’t have that one with me, I’ll sit out tomorrow. 🙂
Maybe layer it with the body lotion?
I’m in Au Coeur Du Desert today. This stuff is sooo good.
‘Tis. You smell great!
It is!
SOTD: Ta’if in all its glory. Such a beautiful scent and still one of my most worn.
It is beautiful but doesn’t last on my skin. I do love it. You smell lovely!
Really? That’s so strange. I can sometimes smell it after a shower (and always the next morning). It lingers for days on my jacket. I just love it.
I’m wearing Ciel d’Opale today, so not a drop of patch. I did, though, wear SJP Stash yesterday, which has probably enough patchouli to last me through the week.
Thought of wearing Coromandel but then saw Rose Jam and went for it! Had Lush on my mind from yesterday’s perusal of their online site and all the perfumes they’re selling in the USA. Need to visit a shop soon.
I have spotted those on the website too! They are not in my store yet, but I’ll keep checking. My store is tiny, so hoping they make it here.
I dug into the back of the cabinet and came up with something I haven’t worn in ages: a patchouli oil from a farmer’s market vendor. It’s a straightforward thing – patch, patch, and more patch. If you’re in the mood for patchouli, it’s got you covered. 😉
Probably would work nice for layering.
It would!
I had a funny experience just now. After my noon-time shower I sprayed on some Bohemian Spice because someone commented it has patchouli. Does it ever! I knew I liked it but didn’t realize why. I sprayed with abandon because I’m not really doing anything much today. But then I did go over to the nearby Kroger’s for groceries. I asked a tall bearded man if he would please help me reach for a carton of half-and-half which for some reason they put way up high on a shelf in the dairy section. As he leaned over to give it to me he said “You’re wearing patchouli?” and I said “Yes, hope it’s not too strong,” and he said “It’s sublime. Makes me nostalgic.” I said me too and we both laughed. I think we were of an age!
I love it! 🙂
Me too! ????
Great story!
Nice!
It has been snowing off and on since the wee hours. Gotta love the lake effect snow in these parts???? It was perfect weather to break out the JM Amber & Patchouli! This is one of my favorite cold weather comfort scents. It is very warm and peaceful. ????
I love snow as long as I’m not driving or shoveling!
Wearing Encens Mythique de l’Orient. In a fancy green and gold top to literally shine at the holiday party at work this afternoon.
You smell fantastic! I might wear that for our holiday party too. Enjoy!
Back to the sample stash for today’s SOTD = HdP Noir Patchouli. Usually I am not a fan of anise and/or black liquorice in scents, but this is balanced by enough other notes in the scent that I can wear it every so often.
Coco Noir for me today. I did finally locate my bottle of Borneo, which I am planning on wearing tomorrow. In the meantime, my Twisted Lily order arrived and I couldn’t wait to put a small spritz of my new bottle of Ineke Idyllwild on the back of one hand. Ineke as a line is mostly a miss for me, but I love this one and Field Notes from Paris.
Borneo is one of the top two or maybe 3 in this category.
Theorema. Probably no patchouli, but it perfectly suits this cold foggy day…
Catching up!
Yesterday’s SOTD = Angel Muse
2 sprays
My Twinkie-filled cannolis were a hit. It was voted least healthy by a landslide. I managed to make 8 full-sized ones before I decided to cut the cannoli shell in half and stuff it with 1/6 Twinkie, then added a dollop of Nutella or marshmallow fluff and fully coated that end with red / green / white sprinkles.
SOTD = Hiram Green Arbole Arbole
4 sprays
Love the smell and love the color of the juice!!
