Tuesday scent of the day 12/5

Posted by Robin on 5 December 2017 225 Comments

Happy Repeal Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Bruno Fazzolari Ummagumma. Tea at the moment is Sichuan Zao Bei Jian from Upton Tea.

Reminder: 12/8 will be Patchouli Friday...what it says!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows a "Lucid Dreamer" cocktail courtesy of Hendricks Gin. Per teacup, 40 ml Hendricks Gin, 20 ml Strong Chamomile Tea and 5 ml Elderflower Cordial. Add all ingredients to an ice-filled teacup, stir, garnish with a lemon wedge and cucumber slice.

You seem to be doing your own gourmand project, Robin. ;)
As for me, I could do patchouli for weeks (with short breaks). Today I am wearing wonderful Portrait of a Lady.

Lovely! I get all flowers out of POAL – I wish I got patchouli!

Rose is the main note there, but to me patchouli is quite noticeable. Maybe one day you’ll get some patchouli too. :)

        Great!
You could wear Eau du Sud, too. I remember you like it. Though I do not get patchouli from it, Goutal’s website lists it for this fragrance.

Oh, almost everything has a bit of patch but Eau du Sud is not what anybody would call a patch fragrance, right? I think that would be cheating :-)

This seems like as good a place as any to mention that I was given a bottle of 30 mls of Room 237 for my birthday, a perfume that does not at all work for me. Anyone out there hankering for Fazzolari’s Room 237 and want to swap for something including samples?

      Bear,
Tabu is exquisite stuff, if you haven’t tried it, Sheherazade by Jean Desprez is another is super sexy (no patchouli though).

I took a page from your book yesterday – double espresso, three-mile run and a yoga practice (focusing on balancing poses core work and hip openers). ;)

Well the ONLY patchouli I own, at least that I know of is Vengeance Extreme. I was in a perverse mood when I bought it as it is very far from my norm. Today I wear it as a warm up. I may have said it before here but I wear it when I have to take public transit in hopes that people will give me space. Or when I have yard duty and will not be in an enclosed staff room for others to notice it. It is LOUD, at least to me.

I’m having a lot of anxiety today. I’m wearing Coco. Its like fancy comfort food☺ I layered it with Korres jasmine body lotion. Very nice. Yesterday I tried Halston Amber in the store, on my skin. I had to scrub it off in the restroom. ( honestly, why don’t I ever learn?) I don’t generally get along with amber, and it seems to get good reviews, but was not for me.

Always my favorite piece of advice, LOL — like the current status of your neurotransmitters is a lifestyle choice.

I third the breathing. Going to a good yoga meditation class always helps me, although when I’m really stressed or anxious I can’t make myself go.

Slow breathing helps, I hope the anxiety goes away quickly…. There’s an 4-7-8 breathing technique used by Dr. Andrew Weil that is quite effective. I utilize it in my meditation practice. You can find the video online.
If you like Halston, and can find it, Halston Couture (not the original) is a beautiful woodsy/patchouli/chypre, elegant and bone-dry.

I’m sorry you are having anxiety. I have lots of students who have to deal with that. Some have benefited from compassion-based meditation or cognitive training, and there are many resources on the internet. In fact, we have occasionally offered a multi-week training in it, and my university hosts weekly guided meditation in our non-denominational chapel. I hope you find ways to relieve it; aromatherapy might be helpful, though not a sole solution, as you like fragrance. Sending a hug your way!

Upton calls it “one of the finest black teas available today” and it might well be (even though I drink a lot of tea I am no connoisseur) — I find it enjoyable to drink but far from my favorite black tea. I keep meaning to try Tea Trekker’s version.

Seems I’ve used the majority of patchouli-centric samples and decants I once had. I’ll have to dig around a bit, but chose L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Extreme for its cocoa-chouli. Perfect for the, warmish, drizzly day. Cozy without being heavy. Back to the grind today. Yawn.

SOTD is Femininite du Bois, which is lovely. However what I’m really excited about it the new deodorant I’m wearing. It smells soooo great! It’s by Schmidt’s, which is one of those ‘natural’ deodorants. We shall see how it goes as far as effectiveness, but the scent is heavenly – Jasmine Tea. Do you think it looks weird when people sniff their armpits all day?

In other news, my daughter brought a cat home yesterday. It’s crashing on our enclosed porch for now. Poor baby has a boo-boo on his tail, but he’s very sweet. Of course the kids and I want to keep him but my husband is pretty firmly against it. We already have two cats.

No SOTD yet. I have a little head cold. Nothing major, but enough that perfume would make my nose run more. I do have a question for lovers of Kenzo Amour. I wore it last Friday since it was the only thing I owned from the three noses in the challenge and it’s office friendly. I bought my 30 ml bottle back when the different sizes came in different colors. Has it changed much since the bottles are now all pink? Is it worth seeking out pre-reformulation for a higher price?

I did not know the color of the bottle had been changed. That is a shame. I have not tried any reformulations, but if I had to pay a higher price I will prefer to spend that money in the pre-reformulation bottles. I am pretty sure they can still be found.

Yes. Do not buy the all pink newer ones, get an orange or white one from original release. The reformulation is very weak.

I sort of remember trying this at Sephora after it was released and bought a (fuschia) bottle about 4 years ago. It smelled pretty much like my memory of it but can’t say for sure. If it has been reformulated for some reason, I doubt it’s drastic.

      help me out here . . .

do patchouli and head shop go together

because smoking supplies (tobacco, cannabis, whatever) smell like patchouli?

or because patchouli is sold at head shops?

or because people at a head shop tend to smell like patchouli?

I was having trouble knowing which of my perfumes had notes of patchouli since none of them were predominately patchouli, so I went to Luckyscent and did a search. Here are some I came up with, in case others are having the same problem: Amouage Beloved, Bracken Woman, Figment Woman and Epic Woman; By Kilian Incense Oud, A Taste of Heaven and Intoxicated; Indult Isvaraya; Puredistance M and White; Mohur, Parfums de Nicolai New York; Taur Noontide Petals and Au Coeur du Desert, ; Memo Luxor Oud, African Leather and Lalibela Oud ; Aroma M Geisha Vanilla Hinoki; Chanel Coromandel; Mugler Angel Muse; Hiram Green Arbole Arbole; Masque Milano Romanza and Clive Christian 1872 and X for women. I’m in the last mentioned. There were dozens more but I just made note of some that I have a sample of, at least.

There’s only one obvious patchouli scent in my collection, so I’m saving that for Friday.

Today I’m testing out a gorgeous Frankincense & Myrrh body lotion by Indigo Wild. I got suckered into buying a sampler pack by a free shipping deal they did around black Friday and oh no I’m becoming a little bit obsessed with their products…

Atop the lotion I spritzed some Body Shop Shea edt, my favorite comfort scent. I’m radiating soft, fluffy, coumarin-balsamic goodness today. Yum.

Hello, all! I’ve missed you! I’m writing here now because I have a lot of work to do, and as long as I don’t look at it, it doesn’t exist, right? So I’m pushing back its existence.

Robin, that cocktail looks and sounds just lovely! I should get a nice, delicate tea set and start drinking cocktails from it.

My shows last week/weekend went well :) Everyone said lots and lots of nice things, and importantly, I did not screw up. By the time my last show came around on Saturday night, my voice started feeling tired, but I got my high B clear and strong, so all is well. (For the other sopranos here: yes yes yes I know a B isn’t THAT high, but I’ve got a big, heavy voice, and I don’t sing anything higher than a C in public, so a B is pretty far up there for me!) I’ve got the first nigglings of a cold today, so it’s a good thing my shows are all over.

I’m wearing Tom Ford Black Orchid today, and thus participating in the community project! I’m planning to wear Molinard Patchouli on Friday. This week’s project is pretty easy for me, and fits with the weather as far as my skin is concerned!

    Have a lovely day, all!

Chamomile seriously does send me to sleep — I doubt I could drink that cocktail unless I was ready for bed. But it does look darned nice in a teacup, and I really ought to come up with a tea-based cocktail for myself.

So glad your shows went well, and hope you can avoid that cold.

Morning, all. I’m very tired, and all shaky. I opened the curtains this morning and there was Eric sitting OUTSIDE the window! He’s little, and the window ledge is wide, but still! a fall would have meant certain death. I’m trembling with reaction, and I have this mad desire to carry him about with me, tucked under my arm. Questions will be asked later, but in the meantime, we’re just glad he’s OK.

SOTD is something random. I can’t remember. No, really, I can’t. I smell nice. Maybe it was No 22. I honestly don’t know. I think i’ll Go and have a cup of tea. Another cup of tea, that is. I really am in some form of shock. Be well. Watch your pets.

Made me want to vomit, it was so upsetting. Thank god T-Rex was on a leash at the time, otherwise she would have zipped right over there to “investigate.” Give Eric and extra smooch for me!

I’ve had that same sickening feeling with regards to one of the cats. For safety reasons, our cats are strictly indoor. One time, I found one of our cats on the front porch! Since we live next to a couple of very busy state highways, I totally freaked out, grabbed her, and brought her inside.

Not particularly patch centric but it’s there! It’s a cozy comfort scent. Love!

Foxbins comments made me think of perfumes I would like to receive as a gift but wouldn’t buy myself ( usually as they don’t seem worth the high price). I seem to have quite few perfumes like that, niggling away.
I’m wearing What would love do? I don’t really understand the question. Driving down to Invercargill today for a surgeon’s appointment for Alex. I hope to do a bit of junk shop browsing while he’s in the fracture clinic….probably not what love would do.

That cocktail sounds really good. I love elderflower.

Since I wasn’t paying attention yesterday, I decided to do the rest of the week in various patchoulis. So I am kicking it off with Angel.

Patchouli week continues with Frederic Malle Monsieur. Wow, I don’t know why, but I really love this. I fear I will need more once my decant is gone. It’s boozy and incensey patch and very strong on me. My coworker took another sick day so I took that as my cue to stink the place up in the best possible way.

Turning the volume WAY up to 11 today. SOTD = Reminiscence Patchouli EdT, from the sample stash. This stuff will obliterate the drydown of Angel EdP left on clothes!

I have a question for the essential oil and/or aromatherapy folks here. Does Patchouli have calming properties? I have never noticed it before, but wearing the Patchouli sample, I have felt really mellow today. Maybe something to keep in mind if holiday craziness gets on my nerves…

Almond scents comfort me. There was almond scented body oil in the bathroom cupboard of my childhood home.

Went shopping for holiday party supplies today and could feel the mounting frenzy. This time of year the world needs fewer ughs and more hugs.

I do! In fact, I was just musing about whether I want to get another decant when this one runs out. It goes on strong but within 30 minutes it calms down (I find this so with several DSH perfumes). I am not sure why, but this scent does smell like Christmas–in a good way. I am definitely not hankering for a full bottle, but I like to have a sample around.

So very late to the game. Horrid day. Commando because of throbbing tooth pain. Finally got in to dentist and all is confirmed. The root canal is scheduled for Thursday. Sigh. So, a few more days of Advil.

And, my sister is evacuating from her home in Ojai as a precaution. No way they are taking a chance with those winds and few routes out of town. Loaded up two cars and hooked up the fifth wheel trailer. She was heading out a couple of hours ago. Praying her home and Ojai survive. Horrid for Ventura.

I doubt this is much consolation, but I have had a root canal, and it healed up great. Much better than the cracked tooth was. Best of luck for that, and for your sister.

I am you twin in dental horror and all I can say is the anticipation is worse than the event, so take heart! It won’t be as bad as you think, and I hope the Advil keeps your pain at bay until the root canal is completed. Best wishes to your sister as well!

Oh my gosh, this exact thing happened to me a few weeks ago! I had a cavity filled and my dentist said it was close to the nerve and would be “sensitive” for awhile. I had it checked at two weeks and she said give it more time to calm down, I called at three weeks practically in tears and begged for a root canal. I was able to get in with the endodontist the next day.
If it’s any consolation, the root canal should bring instant relief from the throbbing pain. I just had a few days of achiness afterward.

      Best of luck!!

Yes. Mine was from a filling replacement in a back molar. My dentist yesterday says it happens maybe 5% of the time.

Let’s just say that between this and our kitty, my vacations will be virtual for awhile….using music, closed eyes or a library book, and fragrance through both my scents and scented candles. ????????????

I started out the day in Zoologist Elephant, from a very successful blind split. It takes a couple of hours for the patch to come out and play on my skin.
We went Christmas shopping earlier, so I’m going for a spritz of When We Cuddle. It really seems to be a calming fragrance. ????
