Friday scent of the day 12/1

Posted by Robin on 1 December 2017 210 Comments

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, and welcome to December! Our community project for today: wear something by Annie Buzantian, Honorine Blanc or Daphné Bugey.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm in Le Labo Lys 41, by Daphné Bugey. I always forget how pretty this one is.

Reminder: 12/8 will be Patchouli Friday...what it says!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the organic bunny hat ("Every baby needs a little bit of warmth to keep their delicate heads covered. Why not do it in style with this adorable baby bunny pilot cap?") is $32 at Ellie Fun Day.

Happy Friday! I am in the very last dregs of my sample of Le Labo Bergamotte 22 by Daphné Bugey. I definitely need to replace this one!

Twins! I noticed putting this one on that my decant from an NST buddy had evaporated a lot, even since summer. There is a cheaper, but hard to find smell-alike in Frau Tonis Aventure, which I have a little mini of.

I tried Bergamotte 22 last weekend….My brother-in-law wears it, so of course I sprayed a bit when I saw the bottle in the guest room…LOL!

      It’s GORGEOUS!!! :)

Remember buying this bottle at a moment’s weakness (and it was on sale) pretty much for the bottle. Thanks to today’s challenge it’s once again a perfume instead of a display piece on my vanity :P

Wearing Kenzo Amour by Daphné Bugey. I have not worn it in a long time and today I find it cozy and inviting.

Twins. I’m sampling the Neroli 36. Had a trouble with it for the first hour. Something bitter I picked up, but not in a good way. It has dried down now to a nice neroli-jasmin-tonka, pretty but more of a skin scent on me (I applied it with a dauber, so that may be part of the issue).

How does this one work for you?

I’m in L’Orpheline, one of my favorite Serge Lutens (of the ones I’ve smelled). Both cool and hot, austere yet compelling. I wouldn’t mind buying this in 100ml when my bottle runs dry.

I also like this a lot. I don’t think it got very good reviews but it’s one of the only recent Serges that I’ve purchased. You’re right about the austere yet compelling quality of it. That’s me! Ha ha. At least, an aspirational self-description!

I will be sending out an email tonight to folks attending to confirm the details…can’t wait to see everyone!

Today I shall be wearing some L’Instant circa 2004 I found for a song on Ebay. I realized I never tried the older Guerlains and have made a point to do so…will weigh in later on the ‘fume….the juice is a beautiful amber color…that let’s you know it’s not reformulated… ;)

Time to put away the fall decor and start inching toward decorating for Christmas. Maybe I’ll just put out my Nativity set today.

Found a couple of Daphne Bugey samples and am still trying to decide which to wear: Kenzo Amour or LL Lys 41. Maybe one on each wrist? yeah.

I’ve got a Ylang 49 sample too, but it is SO AWFUl on my skin (though very pretty on paper) that I’m not even considering it.

Okay, two hours later and K Amour is nicer than I remembered it (I just had to suffer through the hints of Play-doh earlier), but the Lys 41 is WORKIN MA LAST NOIVE.

There’s a jasmine material that often bothers me — last time I noticed it was in that Jennifer Aniston fragrance, but it’s in a buncha stuff. It gets screechy and chem-lab-y, and it makes me want to smash things. I didn’t notice it last time I wore Lys 41, but BOY HOWDY is it annoying me now. Time to scrub.

I have the same problem with those two Le Labo fragrances, especially the one that claims to be a chypre. They commit suicide on my skin is how I put it. My friend B says they turn into a chemical mess on me. So it’s not just you! (My husband is a biochemist, by the way, and he completely believes in skin chemistry because everyone has a different skin microbiome and the microbiome could really have an affect on how things smell on you.)

I will be in Eau d’Italie’s Graine de Joie by Daphne Bugey at least for this morning. I might be the only perfumista who likes this one. It’s not at its best on a cool winter day, however, so I will most likely change this afternoon.

I loved She Wood by Bugey, and long since used up my sample. Can’t participate in this week’s theme. But I finished up my tiny sample of MPG’s Ambre Precieux Ultime this morning, thus making my goal of using up 24 samples this year!

Nice job. I have been trying to do the same, but probably only finished five. I have realized I am a “serial sampler.” Sampling is so fun and prevents full bottle remorse, BUT I’d like to have the guts to commit to a few more bottles – once . I weed out some that I don’t love anymore.

Maybe that would be a good Friday community theme – What type of perfumista are you? A serial sampler or a decant diva or an unsniffed gambler or full bottle collector?

This was an easy choice, the only scent I have that fits today’s project. I like it dabbed gently. The tuberose note reminds me of my beloved Oscar.

I was planning to wear Natori Josie by Honorine Blanc this morning, but I seem to have misplaced it. Just as well because I wasn’t really in the mood to wear it. So instead I’m off-theme and wearing Cuir d’Ange instead.

TGIF! As usual, I forgot about Rab3bit, but because I’ve finally remembered the Friday SOTD *before* spritzing the first thing that comes into my head, I’ll take that as a win.

I’m wearing Honorine Blanc’s gorgeous Regal Tuberose for the Eric Buterbaugh line. It is my HG tuberose, and possibly my spendiest perfume purchase ever. (Confession: I have no regrets spending the money for it!) I love tuberose, but struggle with its diva tendencies; tuberose scents tend to wear me, after the first hour or so.

Regal Tuberose, despite its name, is no ripe, fully blooming diva of a tuberose, but rather a young, fresh, green, tightly budded, slightly damp tuberose soliflore with amazing longevity. The sillage is right up there with other tuberose fragrances, however, so I still apply judiciously. RT is one of the rare fragrances for which I frequently receive compliments from strangers when I wear it (yay compliments!). It also works well for me throughout the year. While it’s a strange choice for the colder days of winter, I like it because, on those days, it embodies the hope of spring :-)

I don’t have much of anything by the three designated perfumers except for some of the Le Labo samples and I forgot to look for them and pack them before coming up north on my trip to collect my mom. So I’m wearing some of her YSL Paris to at least be in the general spirit of wearing a scent by a female perfumer. It’s a bit sweet but still beautiful. I might have to buy myself a little bottle of it. I enjoyed seeing frost on the grass in the sunshine this morning, but I’ll still be happy to get back home to Texas soon and avoid the snow forecast to come here next week!

    Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit!

I’m in the only thing I have for today- Black Opium by Honerine Blanc (with Marie Salamagne, Nathalie Lorson & Olivier Cresp). It’s okay, but honestly it surprises me it took 4 people to create this one. Is that a regular thing, using multiple perfumers for one scent?

I’ve been missing out for a few days, miss you all- life has been crazy with the injured bird and work. The good news is that Lucy is still making progress and the vet is very pleased (as of Wednesday) still! A long road ahead, but not going to lose her and she isn’t going to lose her leg, so yay!

That’s wonderful news about Lucy. She sounds like a special gal. I thought seriously about getting a parrot some 10 years ago but ended up deciding against it. I was already too old! They really involve a serious commitment. Plus I travel too much. But I did manage to go to some great parrot stores (not sure that’s the right name) and meet/see some beauties back then.

Yes, they are a LOT of work and commitment. I travel a good bit, but my mom watches her when we are gone so that helps. She’s really good with her. And yes, since I’m 40 and she’s only 3, we will hopefully be together the rest of our lives. :) Their life span (Eclectus) is about 30 years we think. I love birds!

Hello, fragrant friends! This week has been exhausting. I’m working from home today after a dentist’s appointment because my body feels like it’s given up and just refuses to provide me with any more support. Luckily, I’ve cushioned myself with Safran Troublant, and there is a certain warm little cat who has colonized my lap.

One more show tonight, two more shows tomorrow, and then I can spend Sunday just lying in bed and promising never to do this to myself again.

As mentioned above, Kenzo Amour for me this morning. Still popping Advil or Excedrin on the tooth issue. Not sure it’s calming down. Really irritated by this whole thing, because I think my recent filling replacement caused the problem.

Quick stop at Clyde’s yesterday evening. It’s now 65% off. Not much left (thankfully). Snagged a lip gloss, a small necklace, took a flyer on some hair stuff. Anyone who is a fan of B. Kamins products should stop by. There seems to be a lot. I don’t know the line well enough to spend the money.

Wow! I’ve heard about that process, and I’ve wondered about having it done. Every morning when I put on makeup, I realise I have Disappearing Eyebrow Syndrome. No one ever warned me that DES was a symptom of advancing years and I’m not even a little bit pleased about it ????. As I get older, and that seems to be happening faster, I find I don’t care about my wrinkles and grey hair. What I mind is not being able to read without glasses, and the greying and thinning of my eyebrows.

Please tell us how it goes. I might just follow you under the blade.

Good morning, all. It’s a very slow start to Saturday for me. I’m still pyjama-clad, only now drinking my first cup of tea, and just about beginning to drift into some form of productive thought processes. The only thing I ‘ve achieved so far —and it’s nearly seven o’clock— is to make a pot of tea and slow down the kitten riot with a first breakfast. Oh, and spray a pre-shower perfume: Acqua Viva. The photo-realistic lemony scent is doing a great deal to cut through the fog of this slow, warm morning. It’s so delicious, in fact, that I might well wear it post-shower as well. It’s a housework day. Acqua Viva, me, and the vacuum cleaner. Sounds like a good partnership…be well, all.

I hated Honey and Decadence was just meh. The Marchesa is ok, just verrry clean. It’s mostly gone already so I can move on to something yummier.

I don’t think this was our most popular project ever! Sorry to narrow you down to hate & meh.

    Friday!
It’s also Rosa Parks Day and World Aids Day!

    1) Am in Boucheron, layered over Ortigia Sandalo soap- ran out of samples for today’s challenge! No matter, I smell lovely if I say so myself! :-)

    2) Tree is up, lights are up but I would like new velvet curtains, either in deep navy blue or in forest green, to go with the pinkish/golden walls. I bought silver curtains, but once I got them home, they did not look quite right. So off to the shops after work!

    3) Bought some locally made perfume oils from local makers- will give away as gifts. Will tell y’all about it tomorrow as the name escapes me (I am doing end of year, so my brain is shattered).

Re: #2 For your consideration, perhaps get velvet curtains close to the pinkish/golden walls, then get thick rope tassels in the contrasting deep navy blue for fall & winter and forest green for spring & summer.

        Hey friend!

I actually took your advice – sorta! I got silver velvet curtains, which is actually a nice contrast, and then green velvet tassles!

This was a silver velvet that was lighter in color- the first ones were not as light.

Oh cr-p! I forgot to do the rabbit thing.

    SOTD = Puredistance Opardu

It is by Annie Buzantian. For a BWF, it is not in your face, probably due to the prominent lilac and tempering by the heliotrope. Rose is listed as a note but I don’t smell. Anyway, this is a love and thank goodness I have a 60mL bottle waiting in the wings for whenever my 17mL travel spray runs dry.

We’re having a cookie contest during our holiday party. I usually participate in the store-bought category but this time, I may do the least healthy using store bought stuff. I may donsomething with sprinkles, marshmallow fluff and whi knows what else. My ersnare open to any ideas you may have.

Scent twin! The first time I wore it I thought it was just meh but today I really like it. I made 2 apple pies and bought a cheese tray because I am on the roster for snack today and have received much adoration . I’m sure you will too hajusuuri.

When I bring stuff, it is usually made by someone else :-)

If you do Rice Krispy treats with sprinkles and various-colored granulated sugar as decoration, I guarantee victory.
To the brave go the spoils !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        Rice Krispy treats – yumm.

I landed on: Twinkies and marshmallow fluff cannoli with red, green and white sprinkles. I need to find a way to coat the outside of the cannoli with a thick layer of the sprinkles. maybe honey? corn syrup?

Honey or corn syrup will remain sticky unless VERY thinly applied.
Chocolate ganache, if you have time.
Cream and chopped chocolate, and it will set the less cream you use.
          Good luck, and enjoy !!!!!!!

Finally getting over here today…..the morning got away from me!

I went with office friendly Marc Jacobs Dot, a creation of Annie Buzantian. It’s perfectly fine, but doesn’t get my attention. That said, it’s OK to have perfumes like that to keep coworkers and others happy and unoffended! :)

If I didn’t have the Office Perfume Grinch to contend with, I DEFINITELY would have gone with Daphne’s L’Artisan’s Venenum 32! I still have a bit of my sample left…it’s GORGEOUS! I will apply the second I get home tonight! :)

I’m wearing Nirvana White for the project. It’s a fresh, sparkly floral – pretty and wearable by most, I’d guess. I don’t love it, but it’s nice enough. It’s starting to dry down to a muskier base. As I do with food, I’m already contemplating what I’m going to wear later…

Just starting our drive from SFO to Sacramento. I’m wearing the remnants of last night’s post shower no 5 which I can still smell!
Got a fright when we landed: cat sitter left a VM saying when she got to our building, the fire dept was there putting out a fire on the 3rd floor of our building. Kitties are OK and we’re ground/basement, but they had to evacuate them (only one because the other was hiding under the bed). No damage to our place, but it really spooked me because I was thinking about fires this morning while waiting for my husband to get the car-one of those “did I firget to shut off the stove?” moments. Thankful no one in the building was harmed.

What a horrible feeling! So glad the babies are okay. Enjoy the drive. If you are interested in fresh pie, you can stop at Ikedas just outside Davis (which is a nice town, by the way.). It’s right off 80.

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! I’m enjoying a quiet and uneventful Friday, after a fair amount of crazy earlier this week.

SOTD = Belle d’Opium, from the bottle I own. I like this one quite a bit, although it really ought to be considered its own creature and not an Opium flanker. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Gosh what a week. At least the perfumes were fun – I did a week of ambers as I don’t have anything by the terrible trio:
    Ambre Sultan
    Ambre Sauvage
    Ambrarem
    Ambre Precieux
    Ambre Russe

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how these compared. I’ve tried only some of them. Ambrarem is strange but I rather like it; it’s probably pretty different from all the others, isn’t it?

I missed it! But I did enjoy learning what each of these women have created… unfortunately, I don’t have any in my collection (though I do remember enjoying a mini of Banana Republic Alabaster at one time!). I was in my very last of The Peredam sample – my son picked my fragrance out for me this morning.
