Wednesday scent of the day 11/29

Posted by Robin on 29 November 2017 168 Comments

Happy Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Issey Miyake a scent by issey miyake from a very old, mostly spoiled sample. I'm going to wash it off soon. Anyway, it's by Daphné Bugey, so I tried.

Reminder: on 12/1, wear something by Annie Buzantian, Honorine Blanc or Daphné Bugey.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is from the 2012 Pleats Please Happy Anniversary campaign.

I don’t know how it has come to pass that I have never smelled VdN, but I must rectify the situation soon. If only all the Guerlain counters in my town hadn’t disappeared into thin air while my back was turned.

Dear Guerlain, What is your strategy? Are you trying to force everyone to blind buy from your website or simply hop a plane to Paris whenever we get the urge for a sniffing spree? Are those of us who don’t live in major cities unworthy of your wares? What gives?

      Love, Luna

The perfume is a real beauty. I have a small decant that I cherish dearly. The EdT that is the one I am wearing today is also great. I normally wear it for the office since it is lighter.
I can send you a small decant of the EdT if you would like to try it. My email: monica67@aol.com

I felt that way when I sampled their tea yesterday..my next question was..Is this for sale? And there answer was only in Paris! Rats!
Sorry you are having a tough time finding a boutique. Let me know if you would like to sample my Shalimar flanker I just got (my SOTD today), email me and I would be more than happy

I just am asking myself this question and I was standing in front of Guerlain fragrances, albeit briefly, yesterday.

        I must rectify this.

That image makes me want to get an ice-cream cone!

I am wearing Shalimar Soufflé Intense this morning..I decided to buy this unsniffed and cancel the regular flanker.

My time at the Guerlian spa was very very pampering.
I tried their Orchidée Impériale Tea, and it was de-lish!

After spending some time with the makeup artist before I left he presented two perfumes that he thinks would suit me, one was La Plus Jour de ma Vie, which he let me try and the other was Eau de Cashmere (which I wouldn’t of even tried if I wasn’t prompted) and I tried that one on the other wrist. He also brought out the bottle of Muget from this year and we just stood there and admired its beauty together. Perfect day!

I am going to stick my neck out like a giraffe and say that I liked this more than La Plus Jour de ma Vie. It was very woody floral on me, and lasted into the evening on my skin.

        Hi Jiji,
I enjoyed it! Its expensive so its good to go when there is a promotion.
A few products that I really enjoy is their Terracotta powder. I am not a sun worshiper (and have hyper pigmentation) so this gives me a sun kissed glow without the side effects. Any lipstick is worth a try, I like their Liquid Matte lippy, gives the same effect as their lipsticks but ten bucks cheaper.
The meteorites have a huge (cult) following.

          Thanks! :)
          I dont use powder, but lipsticks….oh yeah…
Shades of (dark)red and plum, I need them all! ;)
Maybe a christmas gift for myself… i can already see the look on my husbands face, the “but u already have a pouch full of red lipsticks…”-look :D

They all have a bit of smell, like violets but no taste really.
I would try for sure as long as you don’t mind a bit of fragrance under your nose, but it fades.

Kiss Kiss and the one LIzzieB recommended are also good

I splurged a couple of years back on one of the lipsticks that comes in the gold case that has a mirror that flips up. It’s a gorgeous color. I always play with their makeup at duty free when I travel. ????

Today I am in loads of Prada Candy. I am trying to be braver and wear more than two sprays in order to actually use the perfume I have. I tend to hoard it but I truly have enough to last decades.

I’m an undersprayer also- less for hoarding purposes than to keep the sillage low during my work day. Even on days off I have a hard time with using more out of habit. Will join you in the bravery! And you smell great-always liked Candy.

I don’t underspray, but stuff I have 50mls or less of I sometimes avoid wearing if I love it a lot, for fear of running out. Which is ridiculous given how much I have. But it’s still hard to use up those favourites.

I am like you. I always spray carefully if I have 50ml or less of any of my favorites. No sense, since I might never finish all I have. But anyway, looks like we are so apprehensive to the ones we really love!

Cold & snowing here today (Aberdeen, Scotland). Hoping flight to London at stupid o’clock tomorrow morning is on time! Thinking I’ll take my Perfumer H (generous size) sample of Rose Green with me, which will probably finish it – carry-on luggage only, so no chance of purchasing anything significant, though I am hoping to acquire a few samples. Still not quite finished my Bluebell, though I’ll be back in time for my local charity shop stint next Thursday, which should see the end of that. Then I’m down to Margiela’s Promenade in the Gardens & Hampton Sun’s Privet Bloom, both of which have 10 days’ holiday use earlier in the year, so plenty left! Looking forward to visiting my brother near Tampa in March, & popping into Uncommon Finds, where I will definitely be purchasing…they were moving premises when I was there in February, so were closed for the few days I was there. Not sure which perfume destinations my friend & I will hot over the long weekend in London, but Atkinsons in Burlington Arcade is calling, as are Shay & Blue & Perfumer H, both close to our hotel.

I’d say Sycamore fits the aloofness bill well. And what an excellent idea with those coffee beans! Practical and tasty- when do those 2 qualities ever coincide? I haven’t been called for jury duty in like 10 years and my husband is being hounded by them. It’s his second deferment (he also got called for this Friday but we’re out of town then).

I was summoned for jury duty for the first time over the summer, but was released after 3 days. I actually didn’t mind it for the change in routine. Got lots of reading done while I waited to be called and enjoyed an extra-long (hour and a half) lunch break each day.

May your jury duty be short and sweet – or may you at least get an interesting trial to serve on :)

      Bois d’Armenie sounds perfect.

I am unfortunately not familiar with Bois d’Armenie,

It’s sort of a combination of both to me. Lovely in its own right and I think this may be my favorite of the set! The downside of these scents is the longevity is pretty poor on me with some of them (Revolution and Bruma are the most fleeting). Olim lasts about 6-7 hours which is fine and let’s me change it up in the evening if I want to.

What do you think of the Mortel? I was quite interested in that one, and in buying the coffret (which I tried to do, but their website was experiencing a glitch on the day that I pulled the trigger, and so my credit card was saved unexpectedly).

I like it less than when I first tried it-still like it but it’ll probably be the one I use the least-or maybe save it for summer since that’s when I initially tried it and loved it so maybe heat makes it bloom. It’s a dry, woody frankincense to me. Very smooth and understated, not iverly churchy. More cool with only a hint of sweetness. Smells a little like Spiritus Sancti candle but woodier-I guess the best I can compare it to is Tauer Incense Flash, but I like Mortel more.
Don’t you love-hate it when the universe interferes with your plans?

Wednesday is usually my day off (yeah, we Dutchies are the Champions of Part Time Work…and on top of it, at my work place 36 hours a week is considered fulltime/1.0 fte, ha!),
but I had a tons of small tasks and stuff to finish, so I decided to work from home. Woa, I forgot how much you can get done when you are not distracted by co workers. ;)

SotD is superduper fabulous Nankun Kodo!
I love to wear it year round, but cold weather brings out the best.

        Goedenavond! ;)

Hmm if you have IT related skills, most of the time you dont even need to learn Dutch. In some IT teams/companies English is the main language (or people dont mind switching to English when they work with a non-Dutchie). The tech sector attracts a lot of people from abroad!

We Dutchies all learn English by the way. And some of us learn a bit of French and German as well.
I guess that is the upside of living in a very very small country (focus on trade/export), surrounded by bigger and more powerful players like UK, Germany and France.

Unfortunately, I don’t own any IT skills. I’m in healthcare and have to talk to people whether I want to or not ???? Learning a second language here isn’t emphasized as a necessity, unfortunately. I took Spanish, but proficiency wasn’t really the standard goal in my high school. I probably didn’t care then, but it would have really helped me in my work now (as would have Cantonese).

But in healthcare, lots of words are almost the same!
            Vaccinations = vaccinaties
            Heart = hart
            Broken = gebroken
            See, no biggie…;)

(yeah I get that, for instance, explaining difficult treatments and procedures in another language to people, is quite the challenge. Even in your native language that is not an easy feat, I value people who work in healthcare very highly)

Good morning , all. I’m dancing and prancing around feeling wonderful, for no very good reason, except maybe, that overnight I seem to have decided which side of a quandary I want to be on. I’m not entirely sure that this a good trick, making up my mind about an issue in my sleep, but that’s what I seem to have done. Fancy that: decisions without cerebration—is that even a word? Is now.

I’m wearing the sparkling gorgeousness of Vanille Galante. I love this perfume, how it is fruity, but not foody, and sweet without being syrupy. It suits the day, a cool morning followed by a warm afternoon. It suits my activity: a day writing. I’m all over happy, in other words. The only thing that might make this better would be a scented body lotion to fix the scent a little longer, but actually, I don’t mind re-applying.

There is a Force Nine Kitten Riot roaring through the sitting room. I should go and see who has taken whose toy and which party the third kitten has sided with. It’s usually that Eric has taken Peggy Sue and won’t give her back, or that Titus has sat in the middle of a blankie that Alexander is towing around and won’t get off. The riots start with a spat and escalate rapidly. I’d better go and adjudicate. Be well, all.

I was up late last night reading Udina’s mimosa blogs and almost swooned ( literally) when i got to Opus III and saw that it broom as a note. I am in love with broom at the moment. It is creamy, and green , and mimosa-like, and a touch minty. There is broom all over the hill and in full bloom…..Opus III . But some say this perfume smells of violets and I’m not so keen on violets…but broom! Yes…no…yes…no….i have three Amouages on my wish list: Bracken ( i have smelled this one ) , and two unsniffed: Dia and now Opus….Oh well. Beaut day here and I submitted the Mountain anthology to the publisher yesterday so I’m wearing Glamour Yeti . I miss the ritual of physically posting things…it was always something special to post a manuscript, place my hand on the fat envelope and wish it luck and then imagine the package travelling through the night…etc. that was a kind of Vol de Nuit thing. Now it’s more press send ….perfume equivalent? Love Chloe.

When I read this earlier, I had not seen the news item and had no idea what you were talking about.

      Now I do.

And I am sorry to say that I was not surprised. I wasn’t surprised by the allegations of misconduct from Matt Lauer, either, or from Charlie Rose, or Bill O’Reilly, or any of the other men in the entertainment/media/political arenas who have been accused of such shenanigans. I haven’t been surprised by a one of them, not since Bill Cosby (that one hit me hard).

THis is not me being political, either, this is me being sad that so often women are subjected to this kind of treatment as a sort of “you wanna work here, you gotta play the game” dues. I hope 2017 is a watershed year for the ending of workplace sexual harassment — for everybody, and for real instead of for lip service.

I’ve mentioned before what a wonderful experiences I’ve had courtesy of Chanel representative Akil at the Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase, Maryland (a few blocks north of the Friendship Heights Metro Station). The Chanel Espace Parfums is an elegant and efficient way to explore the full range. In addition, the Olfactorium showcases the 40 individual notes that make up the perfumes, a valuable introduction to the art of perfumery.

Yesterday, Wendysue and I visited Akil with one of the guys whom I’ve been introducing to fragrance, and we tried an experiment. The guy especially liked Cuir de Russie, so we sniffed each of its four main essences: birch, jasmine, ylang ylang, and cistus labdanum. Then we held the four strips together (much as perfumers do) — et voilà! Cuir de Russie appeared as if by magic.

What alchemy turns the smells of barbecue smoke, floral candy, and animalic amber into pure leather?

I believe this was my fourth visit, and yet I still learned something new. Highly recommend!

PS: I bought Sycomore in the new EdP formulation, which I prefer to the original. I also like the EdP versions of Bois des Îles and Cuir de Russie very much.

Thankfully, our old water heater did NOT blow up like yours did. Mr. Jalapeno said that it was leaking out of the top, and water was flowing down the side. Enough water that our sump pump came on a few times yesterday afternoon. Some of the stuff in the basement that was near the water heater got wet. VERY thankful that our basement is unfinished!

It smelled like a pretty floral with some fruit when I first tried it, then made a sharp turn to floral soap. I’m thinking it may have been applied over the drydown of something else that WAS soapy. So I will need to re-try when my nose is behaving itself.

I am so excited that my Neimans will get the Les Exclusifs next week! My Neimans doesn’t carry them year round, they come only a few times a year. I’ve reserved a spot with the Chanel rep!

For this Friday Community Project I have a lot of options. My SOTD is Marchesa de Extase. I love the bottle, it’s inexpensive, and it reminds me a lot of YSL Paris EdP.

SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP

I will finish my bottle this year – woo hoo!

Started the day inauspiciously – I left my train pass at home! Thank God the conductor was nice and let it go. I did have to buy one for the ride home before boarding as I did not want to pay the ridiculous penalty for buying a ticket on board.

Yous all (was it Sistine who asked us not to use it?) should go on to Lucas’ Chemist in the Bottle blog and leave a comment to get a chance to win a 25 sample box. I doubled the fun and offered a second 25 sample box for someone in the continental U.S. What are you waiting for? ;-)

I wore it yesterday: it is lovely but I still prefer the EdT… though, I have to admit that I can wear EdP now (or in winter – our winter, I mean) but EdT is more of a spring scent for me.
