Tuesday scent of the day 11/28

Posted by Robin on 28 November 2017 242 Comments

iron teapot

Happy Giving Tuesday! (Also, French Toast Day.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm keeping warm this morning with Estee Lauder Sensuous, by Annie Buzantian.

Reminder: on 12/1, wear something by Annie Buzantian, Honorine Blanc or Daphné Bugey.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Iron Teapot, Triangle Design in Antique Brown is $125 at Harney & Sons. "Teatime deserves to be an occasion. Enjoy serving our wide selection of loose teas brewed in a traditional cast iron teapot from Japan. We were drawn to this upright style with its unique triangular shape. Interior is enameled, complete with stainless mesh infuser insert. In Antique Brown (also available in Classic Black)."

Sipping chai tea this morning and listening holiday music

My father in law made me a breakfast of champions this morning: dosa with potato chaat and sambar soup

Commando today since I am planning on using my gift card at the Guerlain boutique.

I am so happy that you want my breakfast, before posting I thought you might all think I am a bit crazy for eating these dishes in the morning! Not a traditional American breakfast..but you stay fuller for longer and more satisfied

I do not think you’re crazy! I LOVED the breakfast in Korea. It was just more of what they eat other times of day- rice, kimchi, dwaijibulgogi (like spicy pork) etc. So I definitely wish I had some of your breakfast this morning!

Wearing Chanel No 19 EdP because KellyC mentioned it yesterday and I was craving for it this morning. Day of mettings and aggravations and No. 19 in any formulation is good to face those days…

SOTD MFK Feminin Pluriel. I enjoy the opening with violet and iris, and the drydown with vetiver. Lots of clean musk overall, like many other MFK fragrances.

It is really good. The website describes it as a blend of birch, argan, vanilla and rum. I smell some clove in here also.

I purchased the body lotion and perfumed oil. I think I may go back for the matching body wash.

I have bittersweet memories of The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Shower Gel. It was the last body wash used by my dad the day before he passed away. I handed the aide a brand new bottle for his towel bath. His third death anniversary is coming up on December 12th and there is not a day that I don’t miss him. Every generous and self-less action I take is in his memory, from the lessons he taught through his words AND actions.

        Hajusuuri,
My father loved fragrance. A hug was guaranteed to smell like Aramis. He is gone 10 years now. Not a day goes by my sister and I don’t text or email to each other “as dad would say”
I’m sorry you miss him. The more we live, the more bitter and sweet it is.

Back at work today after more than 2 weeks – longest vacation I have had (outside of maternity leave) since my teens. Having a hard time getting my brain in gear. SOTD is Le Labo Rose 31 by Daphné Bugey. It’s very cumin-y this morning, which I like but enabler husband does not. I will enjoy this while he is at work!!

I love this one. Some days it can be extra cumin-y. I have had one wrist smell like heavy cumin and the other not, which could just be my body chemistry reacting with it.

SOTD is the lovely Taklamakan from a even more lovely NSTer. Rainy (surprise!) and cool today but I have a bunch of indoor stuff to do anyway, so it’s all good. Starting my day at the dentist for a follow up after the banging, drilling, and sprinkling of cadaver bone in my jaw last week. He’s a nice DDS, so hopefully will not gas him out with my prodigious application this morning.

Cheers, brush and floss twice daily to prevent cadaver bone being placed in your jaw. It helps if you have good dental DNA, too! ????

The other week my husband’s surgeon mentioned the need for bone grafts when he does the next hip surgery. He looked really shocked when I asked if the bone came from “dead people”. I think he may have thought that I thought he kept a cupboard full of bones in his office for such occassions….

Haha! Sometimes people can self-donate the bone, taken from elsewhere in the body. I think of your husband often because it really comes close to home in that I used to mountain bike regularly and have crashed and burned so many times! I could easily have been as injured as you hubby. Hope he is recovering slowly but surely! What an long ordeal for all of you.

SOTM is a dab of Iris Ganache from a sample that I got when TPC had their pre-black Friday sale. Love. I wish I had re-tried it when it was still available at NM, but I fell in love with Angelique Noire and Cuir Beluga instead (no regrets on either, but I would have gotten much more mileage out of Iris Ganache than Oriental Brulant). Ordered a decant with the Cyber Monday sale and just hope it can last until Guerlain comes to its senses and brings back Iris Ganache.

I’ve come to the end of my JM mimosa and cardamon and now I face the problem of whether to replace it or try a different mimosa scent ( which would mean an exciting blind buy). I’m contemplating L’artisan ‘Mimosa pour Moi but it seems to have a short life span and maybe be more green than creamy ( Bois de Jasmin review) .I have tried Prada Infusion Mimosa but it was a bit faint. I’m leaning towards L’artisan…but is it any good? Wearing Furze in the meantime.

I’m a huge mimosa fan (I did 4 (four) posts on the search for the perfect mimosa topic on my blog, if you’re curious), and Mimosa and Cardsmom is one of my favorites, I wouldn’t replace it with L’Artisan’s one. Have you tried Une Fleur de Cassie? It’s an interesting one, and I enjoy wearing it from time to time but it smells… dirtier (?) than M&C. SSS’s newest Bee’s Bliss has a lot of mimosa in it.
      Good luck in your search!

Good morning, everyone. I’m wearing a happy smile, a relaxed expression, and three kittens. They have passed out draped over various bits of me, after a strenuous hour of fetching Peggy Sue (Titus), dragging blankets all over the apartment (Alexander),and conjuring juju (good, I hope) with the fur of destiny (Eric). I wish I could stay still all day so that this mutual love-fest could last, but work calls. Bother and alas.

I’m wearing Ninfeo Mio today. It’s already warm and rather humid, and the sweet, cool sharpness of NM is cutting through the haze beautifully. I sometimes do wear this perfume in winter, but I have to say it shows it’s best side in summer heat. It’s dancing in the air around me like a sparkling rain shower.

Yesterday was A Day. I hope today will be just a day. Sometimes ordinary is the ultimate blessing, especially if it comes with three diverse kittens. Be well, all.

I’m in Sacrebleu Intense which I took off of another NSTer’s hands! I really enjoy it- it reminds me a lot of L’Heure Bleue. It is indeed intense on me, though. One spray was plenty for work!

I decided to go with the No. 19 EdP for my Christmas wish list. I know I love that one. And as everyone said, even though I’m likely to LOVE all of the iterations given my love of the EdP, I can always ask for the parfum or the EdT after I’ve had a chance to sniff them.

I’m wearing Rose 31 by Daphne Bugey for a rainy Tuesday. For a bonus I put the body lotion on my legs. On me the perfume is mainly a rose and cedar blend, leaning a bit more masculine than feminine. It’s nice and pleasant, but it doesn’t really excite me or evoke any strong response.

You know, I have the same response to that one. I think it is one of Le Labo’s top sellers. After I sampled it I wondered if it was the idea of a Le Labo rose, more than the actual scent that made it so popular. There are so many interesting, not your granny’s rose perfumes out there…

After wearing it all day my favorite stage is the middle. There it’s spices and resins. Now I’m in the late dry down, which is a tame musk.

All this talk of Benzoin and d’Arménie… My Pavlovian response was to order papier papier d’ Armenie. I hit the payment button before I even realized what I was doing! Well, t’is the season.

Testing Fatih Sultan Mehmed by Fort & Manle. This is a beautiful green floral scent. It would go on my FB list if it had better longevity. I’ve already gone through half of my two ml decant in two wearings. Too bad because it is lovely and my favorite of the range.

I’m wearing Ys Uzac Satin Doll, which is a lovely gentle tuberose iris. My cold seems to be on the way out and I’m beginning to actually enjoy my perfumes again.

I just ordered it from their website–the samples came with a cute handwritten note offering me 10 Euros off if I bought a bottle, and came relatively quickly to Canada…

Ack…very busy at work this week.

I am wearing Vanitas Profumum Roma which is great stuff. A sweet vanilla concoction of sorts.

I am all about vanilla right now. Most recently, I was all about iris you may recall but now I have turned my attention to vanilla. I bought some Warm Vanilla Body Butter at Trader Joe’s the other night and thinking about trying Tihota next.

I have nothing for this week’s project. I used to have a Le Labo Lys sample but I gave it away. Today I’m wearing MFK Amyris Femme, an undemanding, pretty scent that requires nothing from me.

I’m wearing Lonesome Rider today, just because I felt it matched the color of my sweater. (Midnight blue). I got 4 perfume compliments from students, so I’m very happy with my choice.

I tried Parfum Sacre yesterday thanks to a wonderfully generous NSTer, and it was an amazing experience. The first 5 minutes were the “Oh no, what have I done?” feeling I used to get after spritzing my mom’s Chanel No 5 when I was a child, and realizing after spritzing that she would be able to smell what I’d been up to – Parfum Sacre had a lovely but hefty maturity to it. But after 5 minutes, I was surrounded by a glorious gentle but affirming scent. What a beauty!

In a sad state of affairs, I apparently cannot smell the Jasmine in Parfum Sacre. Of course, the type of Jasmine my nose amps up is the indolic type which registers as moth balls. Glad you enjoyed it!

Doing a week of Ambers as I enjoy the ‘disipline’ of the Community Projects but have nothing at all that can be used for this week’s theme.

SOTD is Annick Goutal “Ambre Sauvage”.

    Top: patchouli and amber;
    Mid: pink pepper and lavender;
    Base: iris and vanilla absolute.

It has the ‘usual’ warm comfortable amber scent, but is kind of pedestrian. That is, it doesn’t evolve much and the notes are – I don’t know – ‘bland’ is a little harsh? But ‘not special enough for me to care very much’ is probably what I mean.

My programme is descending into absolute chaos – I mentioned that half the team is resigning, and over the weekend one of the intended replacements blew a gasket (after just a week on site) and just emailed to say he wouldn’t be back. In the short term I can increase my effort, but it’s not sustainable to do the work of 3 people (and nor shall I really try to do that in full; I just hope to keep the most important plates spinning for another week)

Gorgeous weather in my part of the world today… sunny, light breezes, and right around 60F. I am appreciating this sort of weather while it lasts.

SOTD = the accidental sample from my sample stash, Chopard’s Casmir. I meant to order the item right next to it from a decanter a while back. Whoops! The sample smells similar to my not new, maybe 15 years old bottle, but it is sweeter. If this is a recent reformulation, it has been kindly done, IMO.

SOTD = Tom Ford F-cking Fabulous

Yep, bottle arrived yesterday. Did a test spritz last night and full on wear today. Verdict – if you like tonka, vanilla and almonds, you need to try this. It’s not revolutionary by any stretch of the imagination. It reminds me of a more masculine non-niche quick get it to market combination of SHL 777 Taklamakan and Khol de Bahrein (heresy! but I am just comparing it to these 2) with amped up tonka, caramelly vanilla and barely there iris. It is very wearable and office friendly.

I still have up to 10 mLs for a split available if anyone is interested. I am also open to a swap for a donation to Hurricane Maria / Puerto Rico relief. Dibs here and email me. Thanks. (higher gauge atomizer, recycled packaging: $27.86 for 5mL or $52.01 for 10).

Atrocious driving – a school bus was stopped at a light. A good 10 seconds before the light turned green (and people had the countdown to cross the street), the driver ran the red light because the NEXT light at the NEXT intersection had turned green! It could have been a gory accident in the making! Seriously, bus driver? You need to get your license pulled!
