Happy Thanksgiving 2017 ~ open thread

The Rio Grande wild turkey

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who is celebrating today!

Whether you’re celebrating or not, feel free to talk about anything you like: what fragrance you’re wearing today, what perfume you're especially thankful for, what you’re going to cook or eat today...whatever you like, so long as it doesn’t conflict with our comment policy.

Happy Sansgeeving to you! I think my traditional fragrance is Theorema, but so far, not wearing any fragrance. House smells like turkey broth.

Wearing Tauer LADDM from the lovely mini. It has been on my fb buy list for a while and it will stay there for who knows how long.

Our Thanksgiving will be quiet at home today. Family gathering was not our desire this year. My father’s passing is still so recent and painful for us and this was his favorite holiday.
We will spend Christmas and New Year together instead.

I would like to wish a peaceful and happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate. I am very grateful to be part of the NST community. You are all great. Hugs! ????????

Sending hugs, sympathy and understanding to you — holidays are forever changed now, and choosing to stay home this Thanksgiving will be, I hope, both an acknowledgment of the difference your father’s passing has made, and your steps toward coming to terms with that. May your heart be soothed today.

Ooh, a bell jar of La Myrrhe! You smell fabulous. No gulping – notwithstanding the wear and tear, the 50s are even better than the 30s and 40s, and are an order of magnitude (in perception, if not numerically) better than the 20s.

Happy Thanksgiving to all perfumed folks across the Ocean!
I think it’s a beautiful holiday to express gratitude towards people around us.

Here in Poland we don’t have Thanksgiving (rumour has it there were attempts but turkeys didn’t fit in Polish ovens)

I’m wearing Huitieme Art Shermine today. I would’ve bought it (hiding wallet) if it wasn’t for the ugly bottle. So… maybe a large decant someday

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Unitedstatesians on NST. Thanksgiving is not A Thing over here, although in the last few years Black Friday has become one. Go figure.

I’m retrying Amouage “Bracken Man” and enjoying it more than the first time.

    Top: bergamot, lemon, cypress, lavender, nutmeg and clove;
    Mid: geranium, sandalwood, cedar and cinnamon;
    Base: patchouli and musk.

Another crazy day. Now I’m sitting in DUS airport trying to decompress.

We have Black Friday here as well. Some stores even overdo it making it Black Week or Black Weekend.
But sales are not as good as in the US. 30% off on average, sometimes 50% and that’s max.

I agree. I celebrate Thanksgiving but I have never in my entire life shopped on Black Friday. Some stores open at 5:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving and thousands of people get up at 4:00 A.M. on Black Friday to stand in line and get deals. It’s insane and I would never do it.

Happy Thanksgiving to all for whom this is an important day. Good food, good company, fun to you all.

It’s an ordinary Friday here, not exciting at all, but for some reason, I thought that it would be fine to enliven it with some vintage-ish Femme. Mistake. The perfume is as grown-up and gorgeous as ever, but I, it turns out, am not. Now it’s on, and boy, is it ON,I want fresh, crisp, citrus or green. I want Cristalle. I want Ninfeo Mio. I want L’ombre dans L’Eau. Silences. Safari. 4711. Chanel Le Cologne (Ibdon’t have any of that, so you can see how contrary I’m being). Damn! I think I have to shower again. I can’t cope with a Femme today. So, ‘bye all. Enjoy your days, and be safe and well.

We’re having a quiet TG today. We attempted to round up a crew for a potluck and pretty much everyone we know left town so we’re cooking for 2- the hubs is going to BBQ turkey legs using cedar planks which gives meats a nice smoky flavor. And then some mashed potatoes and stuffing followed by a creme brûlée pumpkin pie (that’s the vegetable lol). It’s so beautiful and sunny out that it almost seems a shame to waste it all indoors.
Earlier this am I was going through my minis and testing them so I have several different scents on my hands and arms:
Badgley Mischka- I like it more than I remember, fruity Chypre.
Boucheron Jaipur- fruity chypre but less sweet, more aldehydes-reminds me of YSL Champagne.
Chopard Cashmir-top notes are off, but nice once it settles down. It’s one vanilla I like for some reason.
Aimez Moi- smelling much more like Lolita Lempicka than I remember.

Have a great day whatever you might be doing today!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

My daughter is hale and hearty today…thanks for all the well wishes.

A burning question keeping me up at night, what is the status of the Guerlain Matiere bottles please? I believe they have moved to crimped atomizers for scents in this line recently but retailers probably are still trying to rid themselves of the dreaded bulbs. Can anyone confirm or deny this please?

I got my FB of Neroli Outrenoir without the bulb atomizer. They ARE switching them out. When you order, you should specify that you don’t want the bulb atomizer version.

We have spent our day enjoying the autumn sunshine here in Rome, and seeing some spectacular woodblock prints and paintings at Museo dell’Ara Pacis — mainly by Hokusai, creator of the Great Wave, which is part of the show and is much smaller than I knew, about 8” x 14”. We have had a difficult year, and spending this holiday, and Christmas, on our own and away from home is a good choice for my husband and me. Will be heading out to dinner in a couple of hours at a lovely Middle Eastern restaurant — almost certainly not to eat turkey, but to have a lovely dinner. To everyone who is having a tough time today, hang in there, and know that you are not alone in meeting this day through a veil of sorrow.

I ended up choosing French Lover as my SOTE(vening). It wears very close to the skin on me now; I recall it having more pow! (um, *sillage*) when I first sampled it. Am I misremembering? Enjoy the company and food, oh and be nice to each other 🙂

(I know someone who works as an emergency operator/dispatcher(?) here in Netherlands and christmas time, when family gets together, is the busiest time of year for her. Lots of family drama and drunken fights…i wonder if the same holds true for Thanksgiving…?)

My sotd is Dark Horse, by Dame

This is a scent that made me pull out my credit card. After I drained my sample I ordered the rollerball (the variant they ship overseas).

As much as I have criticized the TF F-cking Fabulous hype, I caved in – don’t judge.

With the $50 off $200 purchase at Neiman Marcus, I ordered something F-cking Fabulous. While it is not 25% off (and of course, you only get that if you spend exactly $200 in a no-tax state), it is still $50 off. I am waiting to see if the 14% Ebates reward got recorded and if it did, that is another $36 and change back.

Anyway, I will split off 30mL in 5, 10 or 15 mL increments. If you are interested, please send me an email but ah…don’t spell out the name of the fragrance because I do not want my account to be tagged as x-rated. (By the way, from the last SplitMeet, I sent out ALL the packages save for one by arrangement – 24 different peeps from 16 different states, with the most popular being California.)

For Thanksgiving, I am going to a friend’s house and we will have ~ 30 people (maybe more…my friend does shifts). I am bringing madeleines, a pumpkin pie and a bottle of wine. I don’t have a SOTD yet because I’ll be cooped up in a car for ~ 1 hour and don’t want to antagonize the perfume intolerant. I am thinking Cuir Beluga lightly applied…or maybe Single Malt.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate. I’m going to be at the animal shelter all day since a lot of the volunteers who usually work Thursdays are otherwise occupied. I’m wearing Organza Indecence, and noticing that it smells a great deal like Roberto Cavalli Oro. Both are woody, spicy orientals. I think I might prefer the Oro by a shade, not least because it’s way less expensive than Organza Indecence.

Happy Thanksgiving to those NSTers who celebrate it. Mr. Jalapeno and I are doing something different this year. Usually we are by ourselves for Thanksgiving, since none of our family lives nearby. This year, we are taking a couple of smoked turkeys to a friends’ house for the big feast. I am a little nervous, since I will be meeting some of said friend’s family members for the first time.

SOTD = Shaal Nur, from the sample stash. Hide my credit card! This has made it on to the short list of bottles that I would buy in an instant, if money weren’t an issue.

Yesterday’s SOTD = Fendi Theorema, also from the sample stash. Sorry, Theorema fans, but it was a massive FAIL on me. This sample is now in the “Give” pile.

Hello to everyone and a very late Happy Thanksgiving! I was on the site first thing this morning but then got busy doing some cleaning and lots of cooking all day and had company so have just come back now and enjoyed reading everyone’s posts and hearing all about their days. I am very sorry that some people have a sad time at this holiday due to missing family members. I do hope that either with friends or good memories some good new memories can be created. I made a lot of things–I love to cook but don’t do it often at all any more. I had three women friends over–we are all self-described cat ladies. For appetisers I served fresh baked baguette, eggplant dip, pickled mushrooms, Manchebo with melba toasts, and shrimp cocktail–all with Prosecco. Then for dinner we had a main dish that was fresh Norwegian salmon fillets with a maple glaze (including ginger and soy sauce), wild rice, green bean casserole, spinach salad, and sweet potatoes. And one of my friends brought a beautiful tres leches cake with kahlua–to die for. (Luckily she left me two pieces.) Lots of fun conversation and cat cuddling and playing with kittens (who mostly stayed out of the food, ha ha). We had warm-ish weather in the 60’s, nice and sunny. A very good day! Fragrance I wore: Amouage Opus VIII. I’m becoming a bit obsessed with it, just so complex and multi-faceted, with its florals, spices (GINGER!), frankincense, and woods. Mmmm.
Hope everyone gets some relaxation is if you have a long weekend, and that you don’t get stressed out on Black Friday shopping!

It sounds like a very good celebration (I hope, cats thought so too 😉 ); and you smelled great!

I thought people, including non-Americans, might enjoy reading the brief posts on this blog that is by some people in my field (aesthetics) writing about celebrating Thanksgiving from the perspective of different traditions: https://aestheticsforbirds.com/2017/11/23/happy-artsy-thanksgiving/#more-7285.

Interesting site, and now I’m also eager to try Opus VIII. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving, or at least a pleasant Thursday or Friday.
