Happy Dealer's Choice Friday! Our community project for today: propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I got no theme for you — that's why we're doing this project! I'm wearing Aedes de Venustas Oeillet Bengale, just because. (And actually, that would fit next week's project for me too.)
Reminder: 11/24 will be Hide My Credit Card Friday...in honor of Black Friday / Buy Nothing Day, wear a fragrance (presumably from a sample) that you're itching to buy but don't own yet. Suggested by Lovestosmellgood.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Reunited and it feels so good!
Shalimar Madagascar
I had the same basic idea: Wear A Neglected Beauty. In my case, it’s Bois des Iles. I apologize for neglecting you, beauty!
ah!! why are we neglecting these? You smell wonderful and as do I..
SOTD- SSS Lieu de Reves
This one encompasses numerous community projects ideas as follows:
WINTER FLOWERS- wear a floral that you enjoy more in the frigid weather (or a variation of the theme such as WINTER CITRUS or for those on the other side of the earth SUMMER LEATHER or SUMMER ORIENTAL)
TIME TRAVEL- wear a perfume that takes you back in time and reminds you of your past
SIGNATURE SCENT- wear a perfume that you wore so often some might proclaim it was your signature scent
INTRO TO INDIE- wear your first full bottle indie perfume or the first indie you sampled
UNDERATED- wear a fragrance that you feel never got enough love from perfumistas
NST CAMRADERIE- wear a fragrance that was given to you by an NSTer
BUB FRENZY- wear a fragrance that you wish you had bought a back-up bottle of
BACK FROM THE DEAD- wear a fragrance that was discontinued or was limited edition that made a comeback or one that you wish would be re-released and taken out of the vault
PLAYING FAVORITES- wear a perfume from one of your all-time favorite perfumers
And has anyone tried Bee’s Bliss yet? Thoughts?
I’m trying Bee’s Bliss today! Just put it on but first impression is yum. (Honey and mimosa)
Elisa- if I cave in to getting a sample you will get an enabler pin from me 🙂
Will wear it proudly
So many great ideas CM8!!!
Thank you!
Great list!
I had fun with this one 🙂
Omg, so many good ideas!!
In the usual CM8 fashion I went a bit overboard! Nice to see you back, by the way…hope all is well!
I ordered a travel spray of Bees Bliss last night (unsniffed, but gotta make sure Elisa gets that enables pin).
Elisa may get lots of enabler pins 🙂
and please do chime in when you test it!!!
Love your list and love your scent.
I wish Laurie would put it back into the regular line up…it is such a beautiful scent and in the cold it blooms so beautifully…today I swear I am almost smelling hints of leather (although not listed as a note).
So many wonderful ideas! I especially love intro to indie and NST camaraderie ideas.
NSTers are most definitely a very generous group of fragrance folks.
I love the ideas! Great job 🙂
Holy smoke, CM8! What an amazing list!
My theme is to copy the person who posted before you. 🙂 I am joining Robin in Oeillet Bengal!
Happy Friday!
(At the moment I was typing this, there were no other posts displayed…)
Hey twin! We smell great.
I do something similar from time to time: if I have a little time in the morning, I start reading the SOTD thread until I come across somebody mentioning perfume that I feel will be good for that day. I use NST’s daily post as my Magic 8-Ball for perfume selection 🙂
and Robin, you DO have a theme…”JUST BECAUSE…” 🙂
Right!
This week I am wearing scents I haven’t made up my mind about. Either the ones I tried only once, so I want to see whether I feel the same about them after the second wearing. Or old forgotten samples – I did not dislike them (so they were not given away), but I did not like them enough to purchase a larger decant or FB.
So my SOTD is Reichenbach Golden Drop. It’s a mini I got as a gift and first tried in June. I liked it then, and I still like it now (maybe even more). An intimate old-school scent – I can smell honeycomb, dry flowers, animalic notes and something chypre-like. This one definiteley stays with me. 🙂
That’s just what I call my purgatory basket! Your ‘Golden Drop’ sounds lovely.
Mmm Golden Drop sounds lovely. I looked it up, and it looks like mini bottles can be had for cheap on eBay.
Yep, searching Ebay for it produces a list of lots which look exactly like my mini EDT.
Jo Malone Orris & Sandalwood. I wish my creative juices were flowing this week, but they are not. So, sorry — I don’t have any ideas for themes.
I am bringing my Mom to her doctor’s appointment today. This is the third day in a row I have been in this doctor’s office building (Wednesday for my Dad, yesterday for me, today for my Mom). I think my car can drive their by itself.
I am in the same situation with my mother these days. Taking her to see doctors 2 and 3 times every week. I wish you luck with your parents. We need patience and love. It is not easy. Sending positives vibes.
You smell great! 🙂
House twins! You smell nice.
Between PT and doctor’s appointments (spin a body parts wheel), my mom is out of the house 2-3 days A WEEK, I kid you not. So, doing the math, at the low end, that’s 100x per year and they are always on different days. At this rate, if I was responsible for taking her, I would have lost my job (or would have to quit my job to accommodate her schedule). The answer? A senior helper who comes to pick her up, waits for her, and then brings her home at $25 per hour. All I can say is that is a lot of perfumes.
My theme is the Academy Awards, which will be given out Sunday. I am wearing Nuit Etoe, or Starry Night, which also fits as a Cult Classic.
Nuit Etoile
Wearing Guerlain Terracotta. I needed something summery and kind of beachy on this super cold, windy morning to cheer up. That could be a community project. Wear a summer perfume during winter that cheers you up and makes your day sunnier, brighter and warmer.
Other ideas for community projects could be:
Wear your best perfume purchase of the year and tell us what you love so much about it,
or
Wear a modern perfume that you think will be a great classic in 20 years.
Happy Friday everyone!
I like your predict a classic suggestion. What would yours be?

It’s fab in all weather, but you smell great!
It did smell great today, thanks !!!
😀
Today’s theme: slow burn (a fragrance that took you several wearings to really “get” or to discover an affinity for). Wearing Memoir Woman and looking forward to having my freshman cadet home ALL NEXT WEEK!
Nice theme! I can already think of a few things I would choose.
That’s such a great theme! I can think of a few, and it’s fun because those are often the scents I fall most in love with.
Hooray for thanksgiving break! Wish our boy was home for a whole week- enjoy!!
Enjoy the homecoming!
Great news!!! how does he like college thus far?
My relationships with Memoire Woman are perfectly described by your proposed theme. But now I love it.
I’m so excited to see everybody’s ideas!
I am sticking with the theme of “tell us about a dream you had, at any time in your life, and wear a fragrance that matches it.” I have been thinking about ways to make this more inclusive for people who don’t remember your dreams, so I’ll add – if you don’t remember any dreams, pick a fragrance that matches a dream scene from a book, movie or TV show!
I have a favorite recurring dream. I am in one of my grandmothers’ houses (they are long dead), and I discover that there are suites of attic rooms I never knew about, and keep discovering room after room: cozily furnished secret places that are all mine. I am wearing Habanita which I think combines old-fashioned coziness with a splash of adventure.
That is a great dream!
I dream most every night, but many of them at this point are gloomy or portray others’ anger with me. Still, this theme really intrigues me. Great idea!
Oh no, that sounds awful! BUT I would love to see how you would choose to embody it in fragrance
I love your recurring dream! I have one where I walk into a nondescript building, and once inside, find myself surrounded by glass cases, filled with an enormous variety of the most beautiful pastries.
I hope that dream comes true for you! I used to have a similar one but it would be a huge, elaborate buffet and I’m really hungry and can’t decide what I want- sounds like my waking life.
I sometimes have a similar one about finding estate sales with endless perfumes!
I have a fairly similar recurring dream about thrift stores and estate sales.
It’s definitely happy-making. I always feel excitement and a deep sense of satisfaction when I realize where I am (in the dream). Oddly, I don’t ever get to the part where I eat the pastry; I just experience the happiness at the plenitude and variety.
Sounds like a comforting dream. SSS To Dream always reminded me of that type of ambience.
I’ve been dreaming about work lately. That’s how I know it’s really time for a break.
What a lovely dream. Dreams where you remember past times or bring you back to remember a loved one are wonderful.
One of my all-time favorite dreams was that I was a back up singer for Kenny Loggins. In the dream I was on stage with him at a concert. It was elaborate and very real feeling. The amusing part is I am not a singer AT ALL.
What a beautiful dream.
Great dream! I have similar ones in which apartments and houses I know well turn out to have lots of hidden passageways, additional rooms, once a pair of glass doors opening up to a river bank. Sometimes these can end a little sinister, but mostly they are amazing and adventurefilled and wondrous.
I’m in Nina Ricci Les belles de Ricci Libertee acidulee and the theme is FROM THE VAULT – wear a scent that you have stored, that is precious to you and hade to replace.
Is that the one with the green bottle and red top? Smells like watery, flowery tomato leaf? I think I have a bottle of that, stashed in my box labeled “Giveaway-if-I-ever-meet-up-with-West-Coast-NST-Peeps.”
Yes! Green bottle and pink top. It’s sparkly citrus, raspberry and lots and lots of lovely tomato leaf. It smells a lot like Chanel Gabrielle in the top notes. I love it and have back ups in the fridge. The only scent I treat in that way.
My theme is Damned Discontinuations and I’m wearing Tom Ford Velvet Gardenia
Then I fit your theme too!
I love Damned Discontinuations! That’s a fun (if slightly depressing) theme
I love the idea too although my heart squeezes a little at thinking about all the discontinued scents that will go out into the world on the same day… still, better enjoyed than trapped in a bottle forever.
My theme suggestion is One Hit Wonder, which could be interpreted as wearing the only fragrance you own (or like) from a given house, or wear a fragrance with the note least represented in your collection. That could have been my theme from a couple of days ago when I wore Vol de Nuit (the only Guerlain that works for me … so far), or today when I’m in OJ Woman. Vetiver is the most under-represented note (that I actually like) in my non-vast but much-loved bunch of bottles and decants. Happy Friday all.
I like the One-Hit Wonder idea.
I like this idea! I have some houses represented by 1 perfume – and nothing else works for me.
Also in Aedes today
Iris Nazarena,
Almost drained my 2nd sample
My choice of theme ‘Office friendly but not generic’ (Dryad also fits that one)
The dry down of iris nazarena is a bit too clean for my taste, i wish it had a lil bit more smoke and oomph
but its such an addictive scent and perfect for work/office spaces.
So i am considering a decant or travel spray….(fits next weeks theme as well!).
And I wore Bois d’Ascese (sample) yesterday evening (so good in fall/winter). My husband complimented me on it and is now wearing it himself haha. 🙂
So, also good contender for next weeks theme I guess.
Have a great weekend everyone!
I’m with you on the dry down of IN. I just get a bland dusty patchouli. The first hour or so is really great.
My theme is Scents Reviewed by Robin, and my SOTD is 10 Corso Como.
You smell great!
Good idea!
Ha!
SOTD is SSS Bee’s Bliss. Theme is Wild Kingdom: Wear a perfume with an animal in the name!
I guess you consider a bee an animal and not an insect
Insects are part of the animal kingdom 🙂
My theme today is Still Not Sure… scents I keep wearing even though I don’t know if I like them. I know everyone seems to love it, but for me, that scent is Bvlgari Black.
I’ve been there with Bulgari Black, and I recently decided that no, I don’t really like it.
I came to the same conclusion, then wore it again, and decided I love it 😉
A good theme…I can lump some in that pile as well.
Dzongkha!!!!!
Always perfect.
My theme today is “Jam On” and SOTD is Amouroud’s Midnight Rose, a dark, jammy, winey red rose. This scent also fits the theme “It’s Wine o’Clock Somewhere”.
Oh man, I cannot wait for wine o’clock to arrive today!
Me neither (possibly influencing my choice of fragrance this morning)! Happy wine o’clock to you, whenever it be!
Wearing some Shalimar blah blah blah Mexique and some Le Plus Beau Jour de ma Vie because the decants were side by side.
I like the Mexique but Shalimar Light is superior imho. The Plus is nice but sweet…kind of makes my teeth hurt. 😉
Happy Friday!
I am going to compare the Mexique flanker to my Madagascar one and see if there is a difference. I remember the Mexique being sweeter and less smokey than the ladder.
I have never tried Le Pus Beau Jour me Vie..is it worth seeking out to try. Since I am in NY I can’t get samples from STC or other decanting services…
I think it’s worth trying since you like Mon Guerlain/Mon Exclusif. I think it’s better.
Heresy! 😉
You kindly gave me a sample of Mon Exclusif a few months back and it sat and languished sadly. I sampled it a couple weeks ago and promptly hunted down a bottle. I actually haven’t Mon Guerlain yet but I wanted to lock down the Mon Exclusif before it disappears entirely.
Thank you for that sample. Well, all the samples that is. 🙂
I have a decant too of mon exclusif also from you!
I wore it to a dinner party the other evening and got boat loads of compliments. My girlfriends all said..You are wearing something new? What is it? I must have it
Plus is good but I think Mon Exclusif is better personally…similar veins though.
Wearing Chanel Pour Monsieur, it just arrived, a blind buy, it’s exactly what I needed.
How about a day for the almost perfect scent. The one you love , but it has that one note or facet that that’s like a smudge on the window. But you to wear it anyway, cause every thing else is perfect.
I love this one! You smell great.
Yes, boy do I have a lot of those!
Wearing JPG Classique one hand and Grandiflora Queen of the Night on the other.
When I first smelled QOTN, it instantly reminded me of classique – now smelling them side-by-side I can see how different they are (although they do have a similarity).
I had a breakthrough in preschool cuisine today. Hungry myself for something savory warm and rich, but also needing to feed preschoolers – I fried leftover spaghetti in butter, flash fried bacon cut up into small bits, added to spaghetti, then added many scrambled eggs. They love it! Miracle of miracles! I’m calling this “spaghetti scramb-onara”
They looked at each other and gave each other the thumbs up after their first bite – wish I had a picture
That sounds delicious! I eat scrambled eggs every morning. And who doesn’t like bacon and spaghetti?! Love the name you came up with, lol.
Thanks! ????
You are making me very hungry, coin-op!
How do the perfumes compare? I am very curious about the Grandiflora . Good work on the meal.
Well, Classique to me smells like a big powdery vanilla perfume. But there’s some kind of flower in there too. So I would say queen of the night is similar in it bigness, and maybe that flower that is in classique is reminiscent of the flowers scent in queen of the night, only it’s bigger, richer and with more depth and it’s the whole flower, stems and leaves – and maybe a teeny bit of hothouse scent.
got a 2ml sample – so if you’d like I’m happy to send you 1ml, if so just let me know your email
Thanks for the information and the offer…I’ll get to try it in a few months anyway. It sounds like a potent mix.
Pretty potent, and I think it grows on you
Ha! I like your recipe and the name is awesome! Very creative and glad the kiddos enjoyed. TM that, STAT!
To answer your question about no 5 for work: I dab the majority of my perfumes during the workweek to keep sillage low or spritz a bit in my hair. But I also don’t find no 5 that big once the aldehydes quiet down. And it doesn’t strike me as that fancy for some reason. To me it’s just a sheer, warm/cool, lightly spiced floral. Now I’m tring to think of what I think of as fancy/formal. I guess Amouage Jubilation 25 springs to mind.
I am curious if you wear no 5 EDT or EDP?
Both- not usually together. The edt is for sure more low-key than the edp.
Yum.
My 4 year old would probably like that too!
SOTD is Kyoto and the theme is peaceful scents. Today is the last of my week off in what should have been a relaxing no work week, but was instead consumed by mind numbing tooth pain which culminated in the dreaded root canal yesterday. Ugh. Today I am chillaxing in my jammies with some Netflix.
So, along with TGIF, I say TGFE. Thank god for endodontists!
Aww. Bummer. But hopefully you’ll have relief now. LOL to TGFE!
Ug, tooth pain, the worst! Glad you can at least have a relaxing day, and TGFE indeed!
I’m sorry to hear that your week was a bust! Enjoy your jammies and netflix.
I love peaceful scents
Oh dear! well, enjoy your last day and try to get some peace and rest..Netflix binging is good too!
Hate to hear your week didn’t turn out like you’d like. We’re cousins today, I’m in Avignon.
Ugh, so glad you get to stay home and chill, at least!
Yuck on the root canal. They are not fun, to say the least.
Happy ‘popularity contest’ Friday: wear a fragrance from the brand represented in your collection by the highest number of bottles.
I picked Silver Iris from Atelier Cologne. (10 bottles in my wardrobe)
Nice! I wonder if everyone else will surprise themselves as much as I just did when I realized my highest number is Estee Lauder!
I am going to go home and assess all the bottles in our house…i think there might be a tie between berdoues and Dame..but I really do like your theme Lucas as it would force many of us to wear our full bottles.
Great minds. This was my thought earlier in the week as well. Mine is Serge Lutens so I went with Chergui.
Good thing, as I had to do the dreaded bathing suit shopping today. Thankfully the sales person was very helpful and I found something great for a change.
As a bonus, the girl who helped me and her co-worker both said I smelled amazing!
I think perfume that I’m wearing today fits into your theme 🙂 – Jo Malone. I think I have the highest number of FBs, not even counting minis and decants.
You smell beautiful!
I like this theme; however, since I have slacked off in keeping track, I would have to gather all my bottles (kind of like doing KonMari Step One) and then count.
I’m still wandering in the forest… wish that were actually true; instead, I’ll be in an all-day meeting (joy). SOTD is Yosh Konig. According to Yosh, I am a king wandering thru a Bavarian forest, on horseback. To my nose, notes include forest, leather, and crisp apple. Thankfully no horse. Well I’m off to subdue the peasants in my meeting.
Sounds a great perfume. Do you like it?
I do. It gets quiet after a few hours, but it’s nice along the way. Mostly leather on me.
I love Konig 🙂 You smell great!
My theme idea is “Something old, something new”: wear a vintage fragrance (or just a very old one, even if your bottle / sample / whatever isn’t vintage), or wear a fragrance that was released recently, or one of each if you want to go crazy with it.
And for that theme, I’m wearing vintage Arpege.
Another I was tossing about this morning while deciding what to wear, but I couldn’t remember if we’d already done it:
Gender bent: wear a fragrance marketed to the opposite sex, if you have any
Ooh, you smell amazing!
I’d be able to do a lot for a genderbent challenge. I really love a lot of “men’s” colognes.
I think I could pretty easily do the whole week. 🙂 I thought about it because I almost wore Cartier L’Envol today.
Oh i like gender bender…I too enjoy lots of mens colognes…
Great theme! I suggested a gender bender theme a little while ago and Robin said it has already been done.
Theoretically my SOTD (Yosh Konig) is a ‘masculine’. Works for me, though.
“Too Late…” Opium Fleur de Shanghai. I’d probably buy a full bottle if it was still available.
Ebay follow up: the seller from whom I got the Old Spice novelty item with piggy bank won’t refund me claiming she wants me to return the broken mess (I did send her photos of the disaster, including of the flat bubble wrap she used). I told her I had to toss the whole thing because it reeked and couldn’t keep it in the apt. 2×4 3/4 oz bottles emptied into the box! She says I should’ve bagged it to contain the smell or washed the parts. Ugh.
Lizziebee enabler alert: going to see the VC&A Noah’s Ark inspired jewelry exhibit after work with a friend. Looking forward to it!
What!
OMG
Leave a bad review or contact ebay?
I’ve opened a dispute. She’s just being difficult.
That’s an awful eBay experience. I don’t think I’ve ever had a seller expect me to ship back broken merchandise, and I’ve had some experiences with things broken in shipping.
Have fun at the VC&A exhibit!
The bottles were the only thing not broken, but the stoppers dislodged and they emptied completely. She claims she wanted to resell the empty bottles.
Thanks! The exhibit reservation is for a 15 min time slot. I guess it’ll be quick!
Actually, there seems to be different printing on the bottles over the years: ships, no ships, red vs blue etc. Too bad I never want to smell it again now!
That was meant for the LizzieB comment box.
Sorry about the seller. Irritating. Has Old Spice actually changed their bottles at all? I doubt I’d notice vintage vs new.
Enjoy the VCA exhibit. The artistry is so amazing. The exhibit doesn’t have everything. Their website shows additional here. http://www.vancleefarpels.com/us/en/collections/high-jewelry/arche-de-noe-racontee-par-van-cleef—arpels.html
(No affiliation with Van Cleef, but oh how I wish there was!!)
Oops. You’re “LizzieB”. The Old Spice bottles look the same to me as the modern ones (though I’m certainly no expert) and even “vintage” bottles appear to be a dime a dozen. I can’t imagine the market being big for a standard OS empty bottle.
It’s the ship’s lantern bank:
http://www.oldspicecollectibles.com/Other%20Products/odds%20ends.html
Nice! I’ll report back. Ha! Yes, the affiliation would involve an inheritance, ideally.
you really SHOULD get a refund…I hope you do!
OOps…now how did that end up here? that was meant for you Elisa P!
I think I SHOULD too! And I’m not usually a big complainer, but this woman is really ticking me off. She’s really passive aggressive in her replies. Grrr.
If you don’t, you can refer the dispute to ebay and I can’t imagine they wouldn’t side with you.
I’ve not had a situation nearly that bad, but I did buy a mini that half-drained en route. When I let the seller know, she insisted she’d packaged it “very carefully.” No – scotch tape and a paper towel is not “very careful” packaging. Since it only cost ~$10 so I let it go, but it really rankled me.
Well, I called eBay just a bit ago because she’s accepting a return in exchange for a refund even though I told her I had to toss it after a day from the fumes. So eBay thought it was resolved. Now they’re being difficult asking me to go to the post office and get a letter stating why they wouldn’t have been able to mail the item back- ie: perfume/hazmat. Wait. What?!? I had to argue with the guy and basically tell him this was seriously ridiculous and am not doing that. It was $49 so not *that* much. If it were <$30 I probably wouldn’t bother from this point because it’s more of a headache than it’s worth.
Peeple r dumm.
I hope you purchased with PayPal, you will be refunded after investigating your claim.
Cheers Elisa P !
????
I did. I contacted ebay and Paypal. Thanks for your support ✌
Sorry to hear that your eBay purchase has turned into such a PITA.
My theme: Love at First Sniff.
Today’s scent: Escentric 2. This one didn’t even make it to skin – I bought it after smelling it on a blotter.
Mitigating circumstances: it was my first time ever in a Barney’s, and my first time buying perfume in person since I had purchased a bottle of exclamation! in middle school. I was intimidated like crazy, even though the SA was a super nice woman. She asked what I liked the smell of, I said “gin and tonics”, and she immediately picked Escentric 2. And it was a great choice for me – I still love it to this day. Five years later, and I have no problem marching myself into high end boutiques or department stores to find perfume. This is largely because that SA was so welcoming and friendly.
Barney’s staff are amazing. My first experience with them was in Las Vegas. That night I was the only customer in the store; I had so much fun there.
My hubby had to hunt me down in there just as I was purchasing my SL Bois de Violette. I’m sure he spent the same amount in the casino before he found me.
Project: wear a perfume you adore but that doesn’t “fit” you correctly
I’m wearing Hermes 24 Rue Fauborg today, and I absolutely love it. But I see this perfume as an elegant, generous and successful woman. She’s probably in her mid-40s or so. She commutes from her art-filled apartment to her desk job via train every day. The cloud of fragrance around her is never too little, and never too much. She probably carries a really nice purse and wears her hair in a chignon. Definitely not where I’m at in life 😉
I love this image you created in this story. I see her living in a big city too
Your description reminds me of the woman I knew who wore this scent. Very senior woman who went on to be chairman of my company. Everything I wasn’t. Very, very smart and confident, well-coiffed, perfect nails, killer legs, a canary diamond ring I coveted. So feminine in a male-dominated industry.
Yes! I see 24 Faubourg exactly the same way.
My theme: the name of the perfume starts with the same letter (or letters) as the name of the house.
My SOTD: Chanel Chance
Interesting — I will have to think through how much that narrows the field!
Finishing off Vanilla Week with Berdoues Vanira Moorea. This is more citrus than vanilla and I actually quite like it – lots of petitgrain which I always enjoy. Saving the rest of my sample for spring.
Happy almost weekend!
I love that one! In the summer my skin amplifies the citrus..but I wore it last night in the cold and it read as a highly edible amber with a touch of citrus…I must definitely give it some more skin time in the winter. It is also a great one to purchase as full bottle due to the reasonable prices online. Do you like VM better than VI?
I think I like both better than Eau Duelle, not sure which one I like the best. The petitgrain faded pretty fast and I’m getting lots of orange now. It’s very different from VI.
yes, they are both very different but I love them both..I bought both for a younger family member who is a vanilla fiend but I am constantly “borrowing” her bottles…are you planning on making any full bottle purchases or just exploring the note for now?
Just exploring – the only bottle I have my eye on is Wrappings, because it’s only available for the season.
Oh goodness yes!!! Wrappings takes precedence over the other two due to its limited release!
No theme but a stunning classic: 1000 by Patou, for occasions when more is more!
“more is more” is a great theme 😉
It would be my theme of choice!
Wearing The Different Company De Bachmakov for the first time and I love it. It reminds me of my zen place: a snow-covered meadow under a steel gray sky, pine trees in the near distance, completely silent.
Sounds a beautiful perfume. Does it have a cold, pine element to it? I start most days with a walk through your zen place…but no snow at the moment, just twinkling dew.
Yum, love that one.
Ooh, fantastic choice! I had a sample a long time ago and happily drained it. It’s a one-of-a-kind.
My theme is Gone But Not Forgotten, and I’m wearing Guerlain AA Winter Delice. Why do so many of the ones I love get dc’d? ????
Oh, what a theme! It would be heartbreak! RIP Cuir de Lancome
My suggestion for a Friday project is to wear something that you enjoy, but doesn’t seem to get much love from other perfumistas. We did something like this once quite a while back, but not recently, (unless I missed reading on a Friday in the recent past). It was fun seeing what other people like that might surprise others.
I am wearing DelRae Emotionnelle, with all of its sweet and intense melon wafting everywhere I go. Have to admit I do really enjoy it whenever I wear it, and it must smell at least kind of good on me to others near by, as I’ve received compliments and people weren’t just trying to be nice!
Yeah, I love the guilty pleasure idea 🙂
I’d love to do this one! I can’t call them to mind off hand but I know for sure I have some favorites I need to proselytize about.
I adore Emotionnelle, so you are not quite alone in your enjoyment of it, but it didn’t get much love on most blogs.
1) Theme: Peaceful and/or thoughtful scents.
Am in Prada Infusion Amande, which is really peaceful and lovely and light.
2) Discovered that I have NOT taken enough vacation time off this year, so I will basically have most of December off! This will be really needed; the time off will be devoted to much needed sleep and spa days.
3) Also! My dividing line fence in the back yard fell down. It was poorly constructed 11 years ago when the homes were built and we have had a series of high wind, high snow weather spans ever since. It needed to be replaced. My neighbor says that he would like to the insurance to pay for replacing the fence and that he talked to them and such. I think he’s nuts because the deductible is $1000 for most policies, and fencing is usually seen as maintenance. Plus he wants the same crap fence that was put there originally, and to install it would cost- you guessed it- less than $1000.
Since I have been wanting to turn my matchbox back yard into a second sort of outdoor living room, I will sketch out what I would like and build a new fence along the dividing line. in Spring, re- landscape the yard and replace the fencing long the other two sides. The neighbor can keep his money or build a fence along his side of the dividing line if he chooses.
You smell amazing, I have a mini of Amande but may have to get a fb down the road.
Congrats on your found vacation time. Enjoy!
I have that mini! Actually, I bought a gift set of Prada Infusion minis earlier this year. all are dabbers and really great for experiencing the scents. I think I would like to buy fragrances like this always.
If it comes up again on FragranceNet I say get the Prada Gift Set.
#2 yay!
#3 yes, get your own fencing system and let the neighbor do what he wants.
Hey there!
#3- Yeah, that is basically what I am gonna do. You have to maintain your place, and before I bought the place it is clear he did not take care of the fence. My short term fixes – i placed bracing on my side- was intended so that I could price out landscaping and fencing for this upcoming year. Now, the choice is upon me!
I had that same vacation “problem”! Enjoy your month off.
I will! I have already start making reservations at day spas for massages and such!
I hope you thoroughly enjoy your time off ????
Wearing Mecca Balsam by Via del Profumo, which I initially thought was too masculine for me. Ha! Just bought a bottle, and very chuffed with it I am too. So how about
Broadened Horizons: Wear a perfume you initially thought was (or still think is) too masculine / feminine / oldfashioned / [insert adjective] for you to wear.
I bought Mecca Balsam not least because it comes in a 15ml bottle. So here‘s another idea:
Too Big for the Shelf: Wear a perfume you wish would come in a smaller bottle.
That actually sounds like a great topic for a week!
I like that idea, too.
Thank you!
P.S. Great idea to link SOTD to theme suggestions! It really helps in coming up with ideas.
Hi all,
My SOTD is Chanel’s vintage Cristalle eau de toilette – one of my all-time citrus scents.
The only citrus scent I really love!
My project is wear samples you’ve amassed from Scent Bar. Sheiduna Puredistance.
How do you like it?
It’s nice, very resinous, but I’m not craving more.
Dealer: A couple of months ago I happened to be sitting next to a couple on a plane who were travelling down to Dunedin to attend a grand ball at a local castle …it was the 50th anniversary of a ball they had attended in 1967 while students, at the same castle ( on a bleak hill, sometimes in mist, overlooking a harbour). They were really excited because they knew that 75% of the original students (law and medicine, mostly) would be there but some they hadn’t seen for 50 years.
So, two perfume choices….grand ball 1967 and 2017, young with a future and older with a future.
Dior Grand Bal sounds like the perfect scent 🙂
It was an interesting conversation because they would have been pretty poor students living in old flats in the first instance and now mostly well-off and successful, so they were reflecting on that. And it was interesting how the friendships had remained in their hearts, really, though not necessarily in a physical way. And there had been deaths and divorces,I suspect. I filed it away as an idea for a book.
Grand Bal sounds good.
I’m doing “nope then YES” again with Narciso. The white cube. Again, there was something I detected as sharp when I first sniffed this. It was getting so much love, and I just didn’t care for it even after a couple of tries in the store. About a year later, I tried it again…I think in an airport. There was that creaminess people kept talking about!
Mmmmm. Thanks for the idea – I’ll spray some of this once I get up and off the computer. You smell beautiful!
I fragrance that you regularly run out of and have to replace (full bottles only)
Vol de Nuit (parfum) 🙂
I’d do better at the opposite of this idea – wear something that you have way too much of and will never need to replace!
Yeah… I think this is a hard crowd for the original (“have to replace”) theme 🙂
My theme today is cozy sweater perfume. I am wearing Angelique Noire with my cashmere sweater. My decant came from the swap meet courtesy of the ever generous Sapphire. Happy weekend al!
Nice!
No clever ideas for a project today so I’m sticking with the one from earlier this week- a scent your significant other or friend dislikes that you persist in wearing anyway. So I’m in Avignon. My guy isn’t particularly crazy about it- he says it smells like church haha. I, however, enjoy it immensely.
Theme – REMIND ME OF SUMMER: Wear a perfume that transports you into into the warmer season when it’s cold outside.
SOTD – Annick Goutal: Sables
Love the theme bit I hate summer.
I wore Habit Rouge and my theme is
A) Wear a scent with a colour name in it, from Bulgari Black to Clinique Aromatics in White and everything in between, and/or
B) Wear a scent with an adjective in the name, maybe Tom Ford F***ing Fabulous, Ralph Lauren Glamourous, or ELdO Fat Electrician.
Oh, I like the “color name” idea!
And love Habit Rouge 🙂
I called this the Rainbow Connection theme earlier this week!
Coincidentally, I decided to drop by Marshalls on the spur of the moment and ended up getting a bottle of Aromatics in White. There were 2 sets of SJP Stash gift sets for $30 each. There was also Angel in the red bottle which I was tempted to get but it was $50…I would snap it up at half price.
Most Unusual In Your Collection–Wear something that stands out, either the combination of notes, the bottle, how cheap or expensive it was, etc. I’m wearing Mistral Patchouli–I have nothing that resembles this at all.
I’ve been waiting in a virtual queue for Hamilton tickets for the last two hours…debating whether to buy just one, or the maximum (4). I have some friends that have been pining to go, but the cost!?
I like your idea. Maybe 4 tickets?
4 tickets = $2000 plus $124 in fees. No cheap seats left!
Yowza! That’s quite a price! Do you have guaranteed takers for the other tickets?
No–and I’m not paying $500 to see it, either. I’ll download the soundtrack and let my imagination run wild.
I waited in that queue for many, many hours last week and came up empty-handed. I tried every single date multiple times and every one was sold out (using a Virtual Fan code.) I finally hit on 2 tickets that were literally in the top row in the top balcony and passed. If I’m going to see a show I want to actually be able to see it (I tell myself, anyway…)
I looked again today, now that tickets are open to the general public and prices are starting at over $450 a piece!!! The ones I passed on were $115 with the best seats going for like $175.
Anyway, good luck! I’ll see it when the tours passes through again in 2020 or whenever it happens again…
So…you could just buy a return ticket to Hamilton, NZ for $1600 and see a school musical and go perfume shopping with Waterdragon.
STUNNINGLY beautiful day after what seems like years of rain. The sun is blinding, warm and friendly, the complete opposite of the Florida sun that tries to pound me into the ground like an anvil with oppressive heat and humidity. The breeze is cool and damp, carrying the scents of trees, damp earth, and a bit of car exhaust. I’ll take it! Late start but making up for lost time by being very productive today.
To celebrate the gorgeous day, I’m in Box of Eels. It doesn’t get much better✌????
Enjoy! It’s sunny where I am, too, for the first time in a long time. Are you still in Oregon? I haven’t checked in in a while.
Yes, still in Oregon! I’m already considering extending my contract. I’ll give it a good 3-4 weeks and possibly see how it goes. The hospital I’m contracted at is fantastic and so are the people. Totally different vibe than the South. And I LOVE the PNW even when it rains buckets day after day. Glad you are getting some rays????
As someone who did the reverse of your move, I will wholeheartedly agree that it’s hard to find two more different places than the PNW and the south. 🙂 I’ll also tell you that there is no more beautiful place than Oregon May through September. Hang around and enjoy!
Theme for me this a.m. was “time to pull out the Deep Winter scents” so I’m in the sweet and warm Huitième Art Myrrhiad. It’s fairly well worn-off and it will be Narciso edp white bottle next.
Happy Friday!
I have a dab of that one. I tend to remember the ones I can’t pronounce. Need to try it…next month!
Mmmm, nom, nom.
My theme is Frantically Rip Open Long Awaited Decant Shipment And Spray All The Things.
I’m in OJ Woman and Aedes Iris Nazarena. They don’t really go together, but I don’t mind. ????
I‘m with you on that theme, sister!
So many fun takes on the theme!
My theme was match your perfume to your soap or shower gel (could be match to any product in your bath/shower).
Today I used Monsillage Chypre bar soap with notes of oakmoss, patchouli, and ylang ylang. The perfume I chose to complement it was Montale Blue Amber, which is OMG SO GOOD. Why don’t I wear this all the time? I’m pretty sure it’s my favorite Montale of the 10-15 I’ve tried.
Dealer’s choice theme for Friday: “Is it real, or is it Memorex?” A bit of a shout-out to those old enough to remember making mix tapes with a cassette player. The idea behind it is to wear a scent or fragrance that photorealistically duplicates the smell of something else.
SOTD = Soivohle Red Canyon Sutra, from the sample stash. This is the spitting image of an Islay single malt scotch on me. And that’s a good thing! A bit of a pick me up for times when I can’t have a wee nip of something.
Lol! My son recently asked me to explain what a mixed tape was. He was especially fascinated when I told him that you had to pretty much guess by looking towards the end of the reel, how many more songs you could fit!
I remember having to take up the slack in the cassette by using a ballpoint pen before playing it sometimes. Getting a jam was the pits!!
Love your theme.
Thank you!
Heh, how about 8-track tape? I was too young for it but had spent time with cousins who wear into it.
Oh jeez — who WERE into it
I’m wearing Montale’s Intense Cafe — loving it! I was at a plant nursery this afternoon and an older lady approached me from about 20 feet away and said I smelled so good, she just had to know what scent I was wearing. So apparently sillage is good …
I like this one as well – should probably wear it soon.
Oh, forgot to name a theme. How about “scents that make strangers go aaaah”?
Theme: [If] it had fallen into my lap… Wear perfume that you like enough and wear (if somebody gave it to you already) or would wear but wouldn’t be actively pursuing it on your own.
I’m wearing Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede. It was a gift from a relative when it was just released in the U.K. and wasn’t available yet in the U.S. I do not mind it but I would have never bought it for myself.
Love this theme! Although I haven’t worn it recently, I would put ELDO Tilda Swinton Like This in this category.
SOTD = Serge Lutens L’Incendiaire
From the Section D’Or line.
Wear something obscenely expensive. Or wear the most expensive perfume in your collection on a per mL basis (this is not my most expensive because I bought it at a discount).
The bottle is OTT sleek and the packaging luxurious. The juice is elegantly resinous incense. It stays close to skin and very office appropriate.
I channeled Bear this morning. Pre-caffeinated, I asked a guy standing next to me at Starbucks what perfume he’s wearing. He was flattered and said he wore One Million. Who knew it smelled so good 🙂
I got my flu shot today – better late than never!
It is a sad fact that many fragrances smell waaaay richer and smoother on a man’s skin.
That could be a theme – wear a perfume that smells better on a man 🙂
I have something to wear for both of your themes! 🙂
Ha! I love your theme but then I should not have drained that gorgeous Byredo rose oud extrait that you sent me as that was the most expensive sample in my house-LOL!
Funny, I recently asked a male friend what perfume he was wearing because I thought he smelled good, and it was also One Million! I was also surprised.
A late entry, but I just had an idea: Inspiration Friday. Think of something you’ve been wanting to do – finishing a task, trying something for the first time, doing something creative, or whatever – and wear a perfume that will inspire you to do it!
