Hump Day, plus Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Comme des Garçons Andy Warhol's You're In.
Reminder: 11/17 will be Dealer's Choice: propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme. (Another repeat — we did this in 2015.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Cruel Gardenia
Lots of Guerlains for my dealers choice so far this week!
Tea is St Petersburg by Kusmi from a very generous NSTer. Tea always warms my heart
This is one of the few Guerlains I have not tried. Would you agree that it is cruel – what is your opinion on this one?
I think you should take a sniff and I am not sure what your definition of “cruel” is.
The one thing I will say, and I am sure many of you will not agree, but my real problem with the L’Art et la Matiere collection from Guerlain is that they don’t last on my skin. I have a full bottle of Angelique Noire, samples of a few from this collection (the only one I have not tried is Joyeuse Tubereuse) and hours into the development they fade into a skin scent on me. Bois d”Armenie I can hardly detect, and I know that some have gone through reformulations but still, at 260 a pop, that is a lot of money for a skin scent. I put Cruel Gardenia on at 8am this morning and when I sat down to answer your question and put my nose to my wrist I can tell you that it has completely faded. On the other hand, this could make this collection really great for some who likes to apply and apply all day long ( I am looking at you CM8 who finished a bottle of Sisley in less than a month) and that is really great for finishing bottles. My AN bottle is less than half way gone because of this reason. sorry for the long response!!!
and right now I am laughing hysterically in my office…yup, I am the re-apply monster but I doubt I would be doing that with a fragrance that is 260 a pop-LOL!
Cruel Gardenia doesn’t last on me either. I have older bottles of Cuir Beluga and Angelique Noire that last all day on me, so I think it could be partly a reformulation problem. But another friend bought Cuir Beluga when it first came out and it didn’t last on her either, so it could also be skin chemistry. I agree I would not spend that much on something that didn’t last all day.
Cruel Gardenia never did last, even when it was new. AN and CB, on the other hand, last like plutonium (in a good way).
Continuing my week of wearing neglected beauties ( not worn to date in 2017)
I have Mohur EDP on one side, and extrait on the other.
Unfortunately, I can only catch the occasional whiff as my cold has blossomed overnight.
Oh no! That cold is all over my office lately – take care of yourself, okay?
Get well soon!
Hope you feel better soon and doesn’t turn into the virus from hell I have been battling for over a month.
Ugh! And boo hiss as well on that cold.
How funny, I put on a dab of You’re In last night and was thinking how competent it was. Lemony without evoking cleaners, a whiff of metallic sheen…. Not nearly cool enough for the packaging though!
Today I’m wearing vintage Bellodgia EdT, which is absolutely gorgeous. I just bought another bottle of vintage on eBay (I’m sorry if any of you were bidding on it!). Creamy and spicy, floral and musky. One day I’ll have to pony up for vintage parfum to try it.
Yes, exactly — competent, maybe a little tiny nod to the pun. It’s fine, but can see no reason to buy it other than wanting the bottle.
You smell way better than I do!
I didn’t like You’re In at all – got lots of metallic bitter something or other. But I didn’t need it anyway!
But it ought to be bitter & metallic, right? It would be sort of sad if it was just a “plain” citrus cologne given the backstory? I did find it wearable though.
I feel the same way. Quirky without disappointing but also not very exciting. If it came in 10ml Warhol bottles I would have bought one though.
Good to know. I wasn’t even curious to get a sample with my beautyhabit order.
Theme- “Un- enabler Pin” – wear a fragrance that someone has talked you out of purchasing (that includes “self talk” 🙂 )
Dame Perfumery Earth Mother
this also fits into a dealer’s choice of WEAR A PERFUME FROM YOUR FAVORITE PERFUMER
I like Un-enabler pin!
Yay!!!
I should get lots of those then, given all the times I’ve talked myself off the ledge of perfume purchasing.
😉
If only my talks-to-self would have a lasting effect. I can stuff the buy-me monster in the closet temporarily, but eventually it leaps out at me….
Me too…
Oh yeah. ????
Woke up to a ridiculously rainy morning and wanted something rich and comforting, so I’m in Vol de Nuit extrait today — oh, look, my spellchecker has finally learned not to correct that to Vol de Suit extract … whatever that would be. 🙂
Putting this on my to try list!
I’ve never smelled the extrait but I bet you smell amazing. I love VdN.
>3
I haven’t really been paying attention to the theme. On Sunday, I pull out several decants, samples, minis etc. and put them in a net bag in a box where I keep things away from the cats. Then I choose from those. Up today is my mini of Knot.
You smell wonderful.
Poll: Wear the last thing you bought, which for me is Chanel No. 5 L’eau. Ugh, you guys, the design of the purse spray is unbearably chic!!
I’m trying not to look. ????
Yes for that poll 🙂
I like this poll although thinking we’ve done it before but I am not sure.
I know we’ve done it on a weekend poll, not sure if we’ve done it for a Friday theme.
Failed to put something on rushing out the door this morning, so relying on the secret desk-stash mini of Chanel Sycomore.
Sycomore is one of the few scents that always seem to work for me: daytime, evening, spring, summer, fall, winter…
…almost forgot, you smell fab!
Thank you, you too (love Poison)! And agreed, Sycomore seems to work in any situation 🙂
Excellent scent to have in a secret desk stash!
I just ordered my bottle of Sycomore from Chanel and paid to have it overnighted because I hate waiting hahaha! So excited for that black and white box tomorrow morning on my doorstep!
Working outside today for the first time since I hurt my foot. Freeeeeeezing!!!
Drinking plenty of coffee and wearing the beautiful Carner Barcelona D600. Stay warm everyone!
smelling good, pl67!
Thank you!
D600 me likey
😀
How is your foot doing lately?
Thank you for asking Jalapeno. The latest xrays showed that the toe fracture and ankle sprain are healed, but sometimes I get a sharp pain in the ankle that comes and goes. I think the cold temperature is causing that. Patience! 🙂
What are those models wearing on the picture? Looks like they are walking around in some kind of sleeping bag dresses….mmm warm and cosy 🙂
My sotd is Poison, the esprit de parfum variant.
Its rounder, milder / less harsh than how I remember the version my mother wore in the 80s, also less loud than the current edt.
So this version is kinda cosy actually, but at the same time it also made me wear a long dark grey skirt and dark red lipstick. Haha. You dont wear Poison, Poison wears you. 😉
The model on the left looks like she’s wearing the couch from my college dorm suite, ca. 1987.
Speaking of 1987… Poison! It haunted every girls’ dorm that year and even the university buses.
Ha, you dont need a couch with a dress like that 🙂
1987… I was still in elementary/primary school, so not wearing perfume myself yet (though I always wanted to sniff the bottles on my mothers vanity).
But my teachers wore all the big and loud scents in those days, (and blue eyeshadow and shoulderpads of course!)
Yeah, it looks like our kid-proof sectional, circa 1986.
I actually love those dresses. I would love to wear one and just sink gracefully into a comfy heap whenever the mood hit me.
Id make a mess…knocking over glasses and cups on tables when walking or turning around, or imagine having to step into a car with a dress like that haha 🙂
I was thinking I could just fall face-forward to the ground and not get hurt!
LOL 😀
I am with you, sistine! Just looking at the photo Robin posted makes me feel relaxed and and my outlook is more positive.
warm & cozy, yes; attractive? no!
I don’t get this type of fashion at all.
I dont get it either. Not practical, and why would I want to look lumpy? Trying hard to avoid / diminish lumps on my body hahaha 🙂
Oddly, the only CdG items I’ve seen in stores are pretty boring, and mostly their logo-d Play shirts. (I happen to like this runway spectacle. It looks more like perfomance art.)
That’s right. It’s more art than anything else.
There should be a Dover Street Market in NY city, no?– a good place to see (and, if their SAs are not too scary, even try on) some not so boring Cdg clothes.
That’s true and I have not been inside The Dover Street Market! Those places tend to intimidate me since I am not going to buy anything, or even pretend I can, though they do carry perfume… Will have to check it out one of these days. Though I don’t think I’ll have the good fortune to meet and try on above attire even there. That type of runway fare is not usually meant to be sold in stores or actually worn anyway.
Gosh I feel old because I wore Poison in the 80s
You are lucky you got to live and experience a great perfume era – everyone ages, but not everyone gets to live through 80’s. I feel really lucky I got to sniff a lot through the 80s as a kid – it’s amazing what we remember.
I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been able to smell and wear so many gorgeous vintage fragrances in the 70s and 80s when the top notes were intact…really does make a difference.
Me too – I wore it from the original launch! But I consider myself lucky to have lived through the 80’s as an adult and got to enjoy a great perfume decade.
completely agree…even some of the drugstore fragrances were worthy of skin in the 70s and 80s
and Avon! Avon used to have some amazing fragrances for dirt cheap…gosh, i haven’t smelled an Avon fragrance in years…wonder if anything is good?
Yeah, what Coin op says…70s and 80s were exciting times for fragrances 🙂
Are they dresses? Or are they coats? I tried to look up the prices, but couldn’t find them.
can’t imagine anyone actually wearing those items. It has to be an artistic exercise that highlights trends – like maybe thicker tulip style coats will become fashionable
And the SOS scouring pad oompah-loompa hair?
So many questions…
I’m pretty sure that those things in the picture are dresses. I saw them on NHK World not too long ago when they were airing a program about CdG and its history.
Still wandering in the woods. Today I’m in the Pacific Northwest – SOTD is House of Matriarch “Future’s Past” from the Twin Peaks collection: “sandarac, tamarack, balsam, evergreens (mainly Douglas Fir)”. Yep. I’ve enjoyed all the scents in this collection. They’re a bit milder than her usual, easier to wear.
She might need to add a rain note, pouring all night here in NW Seattle and, I assume, in the woods as well. What note would that be I wonder? Petrichor? Maybe something mossy?
I am guessing that you enjoy HoM offerings? I looked into them when I was very interested in naturals but their prices are quite high..there is enough out there for me to explore so I let that one go…what else have you sampled? Coco Blanc seems to have a cult following.
Yes, the list prices are high but she has frequent sales, and purchases earn points quickly which go toward discounts on your next purchases. Which still doesn’t make the scents inexpensive, just closer to bearable…
I have one FB (Devotion: incense/oud) and several mini’s (Sex Magic [stupid name] : cedar/sandalwood/oud, Epiphany : lavender/champaca/lily, the Twin Peaks set, and Bittersweet Symphony : chocolate/woods/spices/oud [you’re welcome for the earworm]).
I wait for the half off coupons or buy with points for half off. I have a large bottle of Coco Blanc and Kazimi, plus some 15ml sprays of Devotion, L’Arivée, Epiphany and Aria in F#.
thanks for the feedback, pixel and cauzabon-
there were quite a few that intrigued me when I looked at the site but even half price they are out of my price range as I think most full bottles were in the $300+ range and some close to $500….
I eyed that trio but wasn’t sure so didn’t buy. Glad to hear your thoughts.
I was surprised to like all of them. I’d describe them as:
Future’s Past: forest-y
The Red Room: woodsy, mild spicy
World of Blue: strong iris (orris), woody and spicy
All are more mild and more easily wearable (without scaring civilians) than many of her other bombshell scents.
Thanks for chiming in on the Twin Peaks scents.
I knew someone mentioned them a week or two ago and then misattributed the comment.
Very rainy today. And I have that new patient MD appt (I cancelled the one on Monday as he had quite a few poor reviews) – found someone better suited I think. Also, cooking turkeys for DH’s company potluck at noon today.
Went with 1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire, an old favorite for comfort and fun.
Wow, rain, turkeys and a new doc. Stay safe and serene today! ????
Love Reglisse Noire…an underrated gem, IMHO
Good luck! And you smell wonderful????
Sounds like a crazy day! I hope everything went well for you.
I was going to wear Lolita Lempicka again, but I am chilly despite the 40-ish (Fahrenheit) temps outside, so I dragged out the Memoir Woman. I am cozy and barbaric.
Lolita Lempicka FOREVER. Somehow missed the Angel bandwagon, but at one point had a shoebox full of my LL empties (eek).
Memoir Woman is wonderful, you smell great!
I came very late to the LL party (probably 2010), but I do enjoy it!
Memoir baffled me so much I had to try it again. And again. And WTH-IS-it? again. By the ninth try, it was love.
NINTH TRY? Wow. That is some serious dedication to trials.
“Cozy and barbaric” is an amazing description.
😀
My 2 theme options for my SOTD which is Goest Perfume Smoke & Violets : ” The Urge to Splurge”- wear a perfume whose price ticked you off but you caved anyway. It was $35 for the 5ml splash (the only available size).
“Lonesome Dove”- wear a perfume that no one on NST has tried. I love this one but it’s a lonely experience not being able to compare notes with others ???? Someone here should try it and make a girl happy!
Love these!
And I love the name “Smoke & Violets”..
Kind of feel that way about the Aftelier scents. I think 5ml is $50?
I think it is 2ml for 50 dollars…
wow
Mine was free then ????
lol
What’s the smoke like in this one, and is the violet sweet or more green/sharp?
The smoke smells smokey, like the very last whiffs of a dying fire-but not bbq smokey. It actually has more prominent (black) leather to me. The violet isn’t sweet but not green. More heliotrope-powdery with only a hint of sweetness and a hint of soap. It maybe sounds more harsh than it is, but there’s something comforting about this one to me.
Come out to Bklyn and I’ll let you sniff it ????????
Thanks! Helpful. We should really do a holiday get-together with the NY/NJ gals. Maybe even meet in Brooklyn?
Agreed we should! It’s been a lomg time.
I would sample Lonesome Dove just for the name alone
The theme is Lonesome Dove, the perfume is Smoke & Violets. But that would make a great perfume name-close to Tauer’s Lonesome Rider.
Yikes! sorry! but I would still wear a perfume called Lonesome Dove 🙂
Me too ????
Urge to splurge…and lonesome dove…great ideas.
Thanks! I should’ve saved it for Friday. My brain gets lazy on Friday.
Those models look like they are wearing pillows sewn together, LOL.
Sotd is La Douceur de Siam from Dusita.
I have not connected with La Douceur yet, but really love the entire line (special shout out to Issara), and can’t wait to try Erawan and Lalita. What is your favorite?
La Douceur is my fave. Fleur de Lalita was on me a younger version of it. Didn’t get to try Erawan
I may end up with a FB!
I’m in TF Grey Vetiver today. It’s from a sample my guy got at Sephora this past weekend but he doesn’t care for it. He loves Sycomore and wanted to try other vetiver but said this one smelled like soap. I’m guessing it’s the orris. For me, it’s wearable but nothing special.
Maybe a theme of a perfume your significant other or a friend doesn’t like that you wear anyway?
My husband said the same…”its too soapy”.
I tried it a few times as well and i like it, especially in summer when weather is hot and I need something office friendly. But i dont need a bottle of it, there are more exciting vetivers out there!
I dont think there is a single bottle in my collection my husband does not like. My friends hardly comment on my perfumes. When they do its positive. Maybe they dont have the guts to tell me if they dislike it 🙁
My guy doesn’t comment much about the perfumes I wear. Other than my beloved Shalimar, which he isn’t crazy about- especially the beginning! He didn’t like the Grey Vetiver on himself but seems to think it’s tolerable on me.
Ooh, I like this idea for a theme! My husband hates Angel, but sometimes I just have to wear it . . .
Angel is definitely divisive lol. One either loves it or hates it I think. I actually like it in teeny doses. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure I’ve ever worn it in front of J (my guy). I don’t think he’d care for it. I should try and see what his reaction is. 😉
My husband is an avowed patchouli hater – I usually limit myself to non-lingering patchouli soap but once in a while I need a whole patchouli day!
Ha! Great idea. I can basically wear anything in my collection, lol.
A touch of bois d’ armanie from Guerlain.
house twins!
You smell lovely
I mentioned vanilla scents in the weekend poll, and several people suggested VCA Orchidee Vanille to me. I realized today that I actually have a sample of it (in a VCA sample pack I eBay-ed in order to have a little more Muguet Blanc) so I’m wearing it for day 3 of Vanilla Week. This goes on like bubblegum, but it’s actually kind of nice once it calms down, though still a bit sweet and girly for me.
Finished two samples: Narciso and Ann Greard Rose Cut. I will probably purchase a decant of Narciso later – 6-10 ml. A lovely, cozy powdery perfume.
As for Rose Cut, I liked that boozy rose but not enough to buy.
Are you in the US? If so, I’m happy to send a decant.
Of Narciso.
No, unfortunately I am not. Still thank you for offering. 🙂
I’m wearing Angel Muse today — thanks for the reminder by those that wore it yesterday!
Started listening to Christmas music today. Too early? I don’t care, the season goes so quickly anyway.
Met a new perfume friend here at work yesterday. We walked to the subway together and shopping came up including fragrance. He sure knows his stuff, and talked a lot about layering.
Have we done a community project on layering? Best layering combo ever?
It’s like winning the lottery when you find a friend with a common obsession????
It does feel good.. as if we’re in a special club.
That’s my theme for Friday! I’m excited about it. ????
I like the layering theme idea 🙂
I agree, after Thanksgiving the Christmas season has a sort of manic feel to it, I think it’s more relaxing to enjoy the peripheral parts of the holidays now – shopping Sippin Coco watching Christmas movies
MMMM Angel Muse! I started to wear it again today. You smell fab.
Lucky you! I’ve only encountered one perfume lover at work, but she clearly isn’t obsessed since she never knows the name of what she’s wearing-or the brand.
Maybe she doesn’t want you to copy her, eh? If so, she does not sound like a confident person.
We have definitely done layering, but we can do it again!
I’m wearing the new, fabulous, Cafe Tuberosa, by Atelier. I just LOVE it! Tuberose and coffee. Who’da thunk that would work? And I swore I’d do no more buying until the end of the year. Ha.
Speaking of, now that the perfume trading sites, to my knowledge, are done, where is the best place to recycle the ones I just don’t use anymore? Can I donate them to the local church, like I do clothes, or are there restrictions on this kind of thing, even though perfume spray bottles are pretty untamperable…
Thoughts, anyone?
Don’t have the patience to do Ebay. I’d rather give them away.
Most Goodwill stores will take them.
Maybe get in touch with a local women’s shelter and see if they will take them?
You smell great! I just bought Cafe Tuberosa myself.
I ended up buying a travel spray with the VIB 20% off promotion.
SOTD: Cartier’s La Panthère Etincelante
Same scent as the original but with some (read: little) gold shimmer so I am feeling a little “special” today 🙂 and the black panther bottle is adorable!
I am jealous of your bottle! Hope it was a great shimmery day.
Feeling out of the NST loop lately, but so busy I haven’t been able to keep up.
SOTD is SB Smoked Ambergris which is perfect for the rainy weather today. Temps are great, warm enough to be comfortable in the van in a flannel shirt and jeans, but cold enough at night that I’m happy to get into the sleeping bag.
Looking forward to a 3 day weekend! WooHoo!
You might like their new Glamour Yeti which is pretty similar but with cinnamon
SOTD is People of the Labyrinths “Luctor et Emergo”.
Notes are green grass, white flowers, vanilla, almond, sour cherry and precious wood.
My personal theme this week is “try something that has been intriguing me” and POTL-L&M has caught my attention though people talking about it here. Anyway, on me it’s pleasant but not compelling.
It sounds good from the notes. A lot of your perfume choices would go on my intriguing list…the Beauforts, Hylnd, Arso etc. I was reading about a gallery that specialises in video art in Dusseldorf and thought of you. Have you finished there now?
Still in Dusseldorf, to my surprise. The programme continues to teeter on the edge of complete collapse and there’s a lot of churn in the team. But I’m ok to stay with it until the New Year.
I’m limited by tax laws in how much time I can spend in Germany this year (that is, I can stay as long as I like if I do’t mind becoming a German taxpayer!). So I’ve not really had the chance to go to any museums or take time off in the city.
If you like video art check out Nastio Mosquito from Angola http://nastiomosquito.com/#
I used to be ambivalent about video as art but his stuff made me laugh and made me think. Come to think of it, there are often good video installations in the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham. https://ikon-gallery.org/
Wearing Glamour Yeti . It starts in a rather fearsome manner, the ambergris pretty similar to their smoked ambergris. For a while the ambergris stomps over the scent but then a little bit of cinnamon raises its head. I need to wear it more often before reaching a final opinion but at this point I would say that it is slightly off-balance: the ambergris is too heavy and the ginger is too thin, and the cinnamon is too weak. It almost seems like it is a mixture of already existing scents ( in a literal sense). If you like smoked ambergris you will like this probably, but not need it. I have a sample of the other neon creature and I will try that later. I like smell bent a lot but sometimes feel they need to pay more attention to detail and just go a little bit further in ‘finishing’ their scents, just to take out the roughness which can seem like ‘rough enough is good enough’. But that’s also their charm. Anyway, I like Yeti because I love ambergris.
Thanks for the review. I have a number of their 4 ml sized scents coming my way, and that’s one of them.
As it dries down it gets a little soapy and the cinnamon comes through (like a demeter I used to have called Cinnamon Bark)
My theme is “love at first sniff”. Yesterday’s choice: Gris Clair. I first opened my sample during a time of great personal turmoil and I felt like the universe had just reached out, taken my hand and said “it’s going to be OK”. Ordered within 30 minutes of opening the vial.
Today’s choice: Lonesome Rider. I ordered a sample when Andy Tauer was trying his “name your sample price” experiment, spritzed twice and had ordered a bottle within an hour. Love love love.
Maybe this theme should be “poor impulse control” instead of “love at first sniff”? Oh well, I still adore all of my quick buys.
Yes! I back Love at First Sniff 100%!! I was thinking of a similar theme. Something along the line of WOW! This stuff is amazing????
Guerlain SDV today.
Yum! Have you compared it to Eau des Missions? Bc we have such similar tastes, you’re my go to for comparisons. ????
I have not.
I saw on Fragrantica many people identified the Missions cologne as a cheap dupe but apparently it was discounted and is now being sold for inflated prices on EBay etc.
Discontinued rather.
I have tried both. For the original price, Missions is a good substitute. However, I do not feel it comes close to SDV. They both are boozy – Missions is a vanilla with a slight touch of booze. SDV to me is rum soaked vanilla.
I agree, not similar enough for me to be a successful dup.
Robin, that pic is hilarious. ????
Wearing Shiseido FdB because I adore it. Definitely in my all time top ten. ????
Right?! I can’t imagine being a runway model and having to wear some of these ridiculous getups! How could you keep from laughing out loud?! I mean, laugh so hard you wet yourself…!
Yes! For days when Depends are not enough….????????
I wonder if the models have to wear a diaper? I don’t even think they can fit into a bathroom stall!
????????
The Commes des Garçons exhibit at The Met was filled with similar. I kept trying to bend my mind to be sophisticated enough to get it. (Didn’t work) It was interesting certainly.
I probably own some fragrance that is the scent equivalent of those dresses, so I will not scoff 🙂
Yay, Robin!
I’ve decided they remind me of lumps of cookie dough. ????
Un Bois Vanille on this incredibly gray and wet day. One of the things I love about the PNW is snuggling in bed, warm and dry, and listening to the rain fall outside. This morning it was perfect, and Un Bois Vanille adds to the cozy feeling.
One of my favorite vanillas!
Mmmmm, perfect!
Thought I already commented, but I don’t see it. Apologies if this ends up being a dupe.
My theme is meh then love. Today is Poudre de Riz. I still find the immediate top notes to be harsh, but then it becomes a snuggly skin scent that I quite love. That’s pretty common for me. I seem to be overly sensitive to anything I perceive as harsh or sharp right at the beginning.
That’s a great theme idea! Felt that way about Naja. First 5 minutes after application was “What? Nothing special…” and then it came to life like a 3D movie and had me all gaga-googly-eyed. It was definitely Love. Now if I could win the lottery…????
Day 3 of tea & spices week.
I’m in Agua de Colonia Concentrada. The geranium in this reads as peppery/spicy to me. The longevity is better than I would expect from a cologne. I think this one may replace 4711 as the classic eau de cologne-style scent in my collection.
One of my Top Perfumes Ever! :^D
The dresses in the pic are interesting but definitely something only a skinny person could/would wear. I don’t need any help being lumpy, thank you.
SOTD is Bottega Veneta.
They also kind of made me think of Lumpy Space Princess (from Adventure Time), so I’m just going to leave this here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRKBBo2RPKQ
Even on rail thin person, it would look like someone upchucked a bowl of cool whip. Thick or thin, no thanks!
As a thin person i wholeheartedly agree 🙂
Today’s SOTD is Chanel’s vintage No 22 eau de cologne for a full day of HR and committee meetings.
Looking forward to my afternoon meeting, we are celebrating three birthdays. My contribution is a gluten-free almond torte and mixed berries with mint leaves and creme fraiche.
The recipe is Chez Panisse’s almond torte, to make it GF, I substituted GF flour mix from King Arthur.
Wow, that sounds delicious!
I’ll report back! 🙂
Please, send some if that torte here! 🙂
I’d be happy to! 😉
I also make a gluten (and grain) free banana nut bread. Awesome and healthy with very little sugar, and you can’t tell that it’s good for you.
The less sugar the best. I am not so crazy about sweets. Once in a while I indulge myself in some. I am sure your banana nut bread is woderful!
My trick is I freeze the bananas, it raises the sugar content and when they are thawed, the liquid also goes into the bread, making it more moist.
I use a mixture of almond flour, ground flax seed and psillium husk.
And grain free?! Do share!
Hi Elisa,
Feel free to email me for the recipe at
ldetrich at yahoo dot com
Wearing Dans tes Bras again and appreciating it even more after trying several violets recently.
You smell wonderful.
My theme ended up being twofold today. The main objective was to pick a perfume from a box I haven’t gone into in a while, and then I landed on one that matched my outfit. I’m wearing Serge Lutens L’eau Froide from a sample. I actually really like it! I have only sampled it once before.
L’Eau Froide is the only one of the Serge Eaux that I liked. I call it my summer incense.
I’m so late today! Wearing an old Yves Rocher perfume, Miel. A very pretty sort of Orange Blossom Honey. Discontinued long ago, but I found it (and another bottle, who knew?) as I’ve been clearing out decants and bottles I never seem to wear. I did the same several months ago, but somehow forgot about another drawer that turns out to be filled with stuff. Huh.
They’re breeding….
They’re like tribbles.
Dealer’s choice theme for today: “Smells like someone I know”. SOTD = the original Black Opium EdP, from the sample stash. I think of lillyjo every time I see it mentioned.
I forgot to mention that I sniffed the new Tiffany scent @ Macy’s over the weekend. Did not care for it at all. It was artificial fruit and too sweet to my nose.
I’ve been sick in bed today, and you just made my day!
Feel better soon lillyjo!
Oh, bummer to hear that you aren’t feeling well!
Take care lillyjo!
It is Amber season!! Atelier des Ors Larmes du Desert is SOTD
You smell great!
Wearing my new bottle of Twilly today and DH said I smelled great. 🙂 Love it when that happens.
Givenchy III, applied sparingly. I had to take my Dad to his doctor’s appointment, and I didn’t want to wear anything too heavy.
Wearing Orange Sanguine layered over Figuier Ardent today, both from travel sprays. I really like these two layered! They don’t overpower each other and the result is something completely different!
My theme today is scents that no one else wears. I am in my beloved Sballo by Bruno Acampora. I’ve been waiting for the colder weather to wear it and it is so good.
Oy! At least I made it today. I had to unexpectedly work on a super-confidential project until late and of course today, I had to make up for what I did not do yesterday – it’s a vicious cycle.
SOTD = 31 Rue Cambon EDT
Wear a perfume with a number or wear a perfume named after a street address
SOTD yesterday = Bvlgari Black
Wear:
– a discontinued perfume
– something you bought at a discount
– a perfume for which you have at least one backup bottle and do tell how many BUB you have of that perfume

Long day, just got home and of course, checked in to see what everybody was wearing today. I wore Penhaligon’s Elixir. Sorta spicy, sorta flowery, sorta incense-y. I like it, it smells good on me, but it doesn’t wow me. I would describe it as solidly wearable and really pleasant. It’s much like my luck with the entire line – which has been good, but not great.
