Monday scent of the day 11/13

Posted by Robin on 13 November 2017 172 Comments

Happy Monday and happy World Kindness Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Tsukiyo-en {Moonlight Garden}.

Reminder: 11/17 will be Dealer's Choice: propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme. (Another repeat — we did this in 2015.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Everyday should be world kindness day.
My heart breaks for Iraq & Iran and the awful earthquake.

My “Dealers Choice” is “Reunited and it Feels so Good”
Reaching for perfumes, decants, samples that have been ignored.

SOTD Neroli Outrenoir, perfect for a rainy day.

I am wiping noses every minute!
The humidifier at night and a pot full of hot water with eucalyptus has been helping them sleep.

Have you tried this Guerlain? Its really lovely.

I tried French Kiss yesterday, (PSA its half off at Clydes on Madison) and it reminded me too much of LPRN for that price.

I still watch them on the treadmill (via YouTube/Vevo) almost every day! Lots of great ones I missed the first time around (not a fan of most of the new stuff, if I’m being honest).

BUCOLIQUES DE PROVENCE again today. It seems like a good background scent, classic. I know I have something on but no one is wrinkling their nose at me. Good stand by. I would like to try their UN AIR DE BRETAGNE but the store I last saw them in does not carry them anymore and I hate paying for samples.

Thanks, LTSG. Sadly, I’m pretty far from NYC here in Oregon. 🙂 Fragrancenet keeps sending lures to me via email and their price is not bad … I just don’t know if I’d wear it often enough to justify adding yet another bottle to the shelf. Maybe a decant … although it’s smelling pretty dang nice right now, and I do love Penhaligon’s bottles!

Having my own personal vanilla week – I’m not a vanilla fan but after enjoying a few scents I’m giving it another shot. Today is an old sample of Geisha Vanilla Hinoki which I . . . still don’t like. Onward!

That one didn’t work for me either, although I didn’t get much vanilla. I like vanilla if not too sweet and especially if there’s a twist – something interesting with it.

I get a little vanilla, but mostly a cheapish amber smell (amber isn’t in the listed notes, so not sure what I’m sniffing). I also prefer a dry vanilla, just not this one, alas.

Wearing Tangerine Thyme cologne from Providence Perfume, third day in a row. On paper it’s a summery cologne but I find it to be a beautiful incense scent that works great in cold, misty weather. I just remembered that it was billed as a limited edition – I may need to get another bottle of it.

Chanel No. 5 L’Eau over Lush Buck’s Fizz body conditioner – boozy, warm, sparkling citrus. Yum.
My project for this week is somewhat similar to Lovestosmellgood’s Dealer’s Choice: wear the samples I have not worn for some time. The goal is different though: I am trying to either finish them or set them aside for swapping/giving away or maybe decide I need a bigger decant. Kind of “Sort the stuff and make up your mind about it”.
I’ve already worn ELDO Cologne (finished the sample – nice, but I do not need it) and Hermes Un Jardin Apres la Mousson – too much melon, this one will have to go) today. Chanel No. 5 L’Eau is good… And I finished the sample just now. Do I need a decant, considering I have a FB of No. 5 EDT? Still not sure.

SOTD Grandiflora Queen of the Night

I think it smells a lot like Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, and I do like Classique a lot.

Has anyone else tried this scent? Am I crazy? Is it possible that surrender to chance accidentally put Classique in my vial?

This AM I miscalculated where the sprayer was on my vial and just wasted a spritz into the air, I desperately tried to absorb the spray of my precious sample, ha 🙂

This morning I’m wearing Neila Vermeire Pichola. I can smell parts of it through my allergic haze. It’s conveying the light florals and rose right now to me more than the usual spices and citrus. I like it like this. I am going to be giving some visiting graduate students a little tour later today and then we are all taking off to go to a conference in New Orleans tomorrow. Looking forward to sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the French Quarter! I’m not keen on Cajun/Creole food but I definitely will be getting a beignet and cafe au last at Cafe du Monde! Maybe an iced one, even, since it’s still pretty warm here along the Gulf Coast.

Thanks. That’s who I got original rec from. But her Dr was not accepting new patients, so I picked another one from the practice then saw the terrible reviews. Canceled that appointment and went with another rec that is less convenient, but looks much better.

My new rule when finding a new doctor is if they are the only one in the practice with multiple open time slots that week, stay away. Some of my worst experiences were had choosing those guys. Wishing you luck!

Best of luck with doctor. I don’t like the history thing also. Last doctor I had made me feel stupid for not knowing the medical history of my extended family. I didn’t live around them, so it wasn’t part of my life. I couldn’t believe how many questions they asked.

I have been tracking every scent I have worn in 2017, and my project this week is to wear only scents that I have worn 3 or fewer times.

Today, I am wearing the shocking under-utilized Tihota. Vanilla musky goodness

Impressive! I tried tracking my perfume use last year and lost the will to do it somewhere along the way. Didn’t even try this year. What’s your method?

Excel ( Says the accountant )
It lists house, scent, major notes ( 2-3) how much I have, where I got it and my opinion

Indult, Tihota, musk + vanilla, Full Bottle, Vanilla perfection.

This way, I can see what I am actually wearing.
Helps to cut down on impulse buys.

Yeah excel (says the engineer) is how I track all the scents I’ve tried, purchases, un-purchases, etc. But I found it cumbersome for tracking actual wearing. Or maybe I’m just lazy….

I chose to do it by wearing rather than purchasing because then there are no $$ staring me in the face (eek) and I then had actual use data. No sense in buying another House X scent if I have 3 from them I haven’t worn since Jan. (Theoretically at least)

        • springpansy says:
          13 November 2017 at 12:24 pm

I do this with my purchases – even samples. I like your idea – I think I’ll add a sheet for tracking what I end up wearing.

I use Excel and just added a column so I can keep track of what I’ve worn. I have Excel only on my computer, but I use my iPad much more often, so not sure how rigorous my tracking will be. Thanks for the idea.

The idea of tracking every scent day never even occurred to me. That it occurs to anyone tells me I am way on the fringe of …something! Says the RN (but secretly, I’m a true artist without a bit of talent????)!

My idea for a Friday project is “I’m soooooo predictable”, wear a scent that NST readers would associate with you. For example, today it is raining, so I’m wearing Le Labo Vanille 44, because I always wear that when it rains. 🙂

Today I am wearing Fantôme de Maules by Stora Skuggan (and having a bitter battle with spellcheck to type that!) from a sample that I got last night at Twisted Lily. Aramis JHL today. Curious that a masculine fragrance utilizes the mellis accord, the backbone of the big-boned feminins Opium, Youth Dew and Cinnabar.

I wanted JHL for Christmas when I was 14, but the woman at the store told my mother it only suited much older men than me. I was furious for years and when Esteė Lauder’s husband, whom she had created it for, died it was pulled from the market.

So when Aramis decided to relaunch it a few years ago I was finally able to precure a bottle. Its not as insanly rich as I remember it, but still elephantine in stature compared to other men’s fragrances. So maybe I wasn’t man enough for it at 14.

So, another transition day today, off work but busy none the less. Guess that means VT again. Easy to reach and accessible.

Has anyone had a bone graft prior to placement of dental implant? I have a fractured tooth that must come out, but bone loss that will require grafting before implantation (in about 6 months). Hi Deva,

I have not had the bone graft part, but I have had a dental implant done. It was/is wonderful, and changed my life only for the good! It is so much better than what was there before (a bridge that kept coming out, ugh.) I think it will be worth it in the end, even if the bone graft part is unpleasant.

A few people I know had implants recently. They both required the bone graft. The recovery can be painful but if it goes well, I think a week for the worst of it. Of course, they will wait for the swelling to subside before inserting the implants. The whole process takes a while.

I am more than 10,000 words behind on this year’s NaNoWriMo. That means I’ll have to average about 2110 words a day from now until the end of the month to “win” – doable, but I had better darn well get on the ball, hmm?
I am currently sitting in a beautiful corner suite at The Homestead in Hot Springs, VA, just coasting on The CEO’s coattails because he’s here for the convention of Virginia county officials. Our room was not ready when we checked in yesterday, so they went ahead and gave us an upgrade at the prenegotiated group rate. (Well, I mean, the county is paying for us and four other officials anyway, so it’s not even out of our pocket.)
I am wearing the lovely sharp floral chypre Pierre de Velay Extrait No. 11.

    SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga

I am varying my theme based on what I’m wearing. Today’s theme is “Wear a perfume that has an animal’s name in it” or I will follow Lucas’ lead with “Wear a cuddlefluff”.

I showed kindness today by giving up my seat to someone who walked the gauntlet of a train car with nary a person willing to give up their seat: hajusuuri 1, other commuters 0.

I also got the Tauer L’Air du Desert Morocain. It is very nicely packaged: Outer slide open tin, contoured inner tin and a really cute mini pentagonal perfume bottle. I would gladly pay $25 each (maybe it’s a big market research campaign but I can’t imagine the profit margin on the current $15 price point).
