Happy Halloween! It's also World Savings Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm starting off my fougère week with Sarah Jessica Parker Covet.
Reminder: 11/3 will be Fougère Friday...wear a fougère, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the (hideous) Wizard of Oz Wicked Witch of the West 24 oz teapot is $39.99 at Walmart.
I’ll get you my pretty……
And your LITTLE DOG TOO! !!
Triple strength coffee.
Extra long workout.
Juozas Statkevicius redux.
????
????
Carpe Diem.
Peace.
????
I want candy
I want candy! !!
????????????????????????????????????
You smell fantastic, Bear! Pass the coffee!
????????????????????
☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕
????
I knew I forgot something…..
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
ha!
😀
*leans in* Oh, how fantastic you smell!
I need some of your motivation for these extra long workouts!
Envision something you want, different dress size, joints hurt less doing everyday tasks – and think about that goal being achieved before and during working out.
It will help.
Play music you like during working out, or do pilates, yoga, or treadmill/stationary bike while watching TV.
You can do it.
Cheers, KellyC !!
Let me add: this so true! For me, wanting a better balanced body and envisioning that is key.
Thanks for both posts, Ede !
🙂
When I used to kickbox, I pictured my former puny moronic boss. My workouts did not even have to be extra-long, just very focused and intense.
Thanks, Bear! I walked/jogged 3 miles last night! I had been doing that every evening before I moved and my trip to Korea, but after all of that I got out of my groove. But It was so great last night!
Happy Halloween everyone! Robin, Covet sounds like a perfect fragrance for the day.
I woke up early to assemble my Kuchi Kopi sweater, but got up a bit too early. Now I’m just relaxing before work.
I picked Versace The Dreamer today since Kuchi Kopi is a plastic toy, and Dreamer definitely has a plastic edge. Smells great though!
Hey, perfect fit! Have not worn Dreamer in ages.
Inspired by Bear’s SOTD over the weekend and this thangka about samsara I am in Samsara today.
Second cup of French Press coffee
Yesterday I stopped by Clydes (which you know is closing and everything is discounted) and I talked myself away from the edge…
Look at this Samsara body wash..do I need this? Oooooo Mitsouko..this would be nice to buy at a discount..maybe I should step away from the Guerlains..ahh..VdN..I never tried this one..is a blind buy worth it at a discount..hmmm…
Lucky, I put everything back and bought the 1 item I came in to purchase which was not perfume related and was out the door.. baby buddha got a free coloring book from the sales associate. They are so nice in there..too bad its closing
Happy Halloween everyone.
Here is the thangka https://serenadevi.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/port-thangka.jpg
That’s beautiful, you smell fantastic, Lovestosmellgood!
????????????????????
????
You have a lot of restraint! Do you know their closing date?
You also smell great and that image is mesmerizing!
The image seems appropriate for Halloween!
I don’t know when they are closing..the store is getting really empty. I asked, when I sent you guys that email, and the sales associate said she didn’t know. I am hoping they increase their discount but who knows!
and thank God I no longer live in the city as that would be way too much of a temptation for me!
yes…believe me..I get it!
I ended up popping in there but cashed in on makeup (a By Terry lip gloss and Dermablend camo foundation). Didn’t see any perfumes I was dying to have or that aren’t also on online discount sites, but I did see Guerlain French Kiss for any fans. 40% off isn’t bad.
How is that foundation?
They sell a beauty line there that has a treatment cream that works great under my normal moisturizer to calm sensitivity and redness. Unfortunately no other pharmacies in the city carry that line. They checked Apthorp for me on the westside but they don’t carry it either. I bought two tubes (went back for the second) I left one there but if they increase their percentage off I will go back.
A bottle of Allure ended up in my basket when I was there before, Donatella forgives chanel at 40 percent off..
I have hyperpigmentation on my face and this seems like a good sub for my fantastic but now discontinued concealer. I’m hoping I like it since I bought 2 of them! It’s so rare to get good makeup on sale. I love the By Terry gloss (spicy crush) but they’re super expensive so never bought this one. The 40% off was like trick or treating for adults!
Happy Halloween Robin, we are twins!
I didn’t even know Covet was a fougere – I thought I didn’t like fougeres, but I love Covet 🙂
That teapot his hilarious. I don’t use teapots, and I’m not a Wizard of Oz freak, but I am tempted by the ridiculousness of that pot!
I am tempted to fill it with tomato juice…. 😛
????
Ha! Ewwww.
Ewwww hahaha!
Oh gosh, that made me laugh.
That’s going above and beyond for the Halloween spirit!
Hey twin!
I think Ann Gottlieb called Covet a fougere on estrogen 🙂
I love that teapot! I think it should come with a set of flying monkey tea cups!
Happy Halloween!
SOTD: Oud Satin Mood.
Oud with delicious sweet violet and smooth vanilla. Adult trick or treat!
This is one of my hubby’s favorites. It smells SO good on him! I really need to try it on myself. ????
Happy Halloween! Having a sweet tooth today, which gives me extra energy. There are bowls of chocolates everywhere here in the office, help!!!!
Wearing Jo Malone Bitter Orange and Chocolate. I adore this perfume and I wish I could have a back up bottle. It is really, really delicious!
sorta scent twins 🙂
yum, you smell delicious!
Thank you!
Ormonde Woman today. It is my fall scent as I just got it a few weeks ago.
I love the day after Halloween. As a teacher I feel the class really gels after you get through the parents, costumes, and Kodak moments today. Not that we have not been teaching/learning before today but tomorrow ho!
I am not well versed in fougères, is there an easy list somewhere? I have read the description what it is.
No affiliation, just enabling: I saw the body lotion on sale at MIN NY’s website; $35. It’s in the sale listings. On my phone you have to be patient; the list takes a minute to load each time you scroll.
Fragrantica gives a list under their definition, here:
https://www.fragrantica.com/groups/aromatic+fougere.html
I just noticed that we posted our SOTDs at exactly the same time. That must be some kind of a sign.
SOTD is the darkly beautiful OJ Woman. Happy Halloween all!
twin
I only have a sample, but I will join you both in the beautiful OJ Woman today!
Waving at you and springpansy 🙂
I like the teapot and most all things Wizard of Oz. It’s a fugly one, for sure.
Another cool day here so I’m wearing the spicy carnation ambery warmth of Opium Fleur d’Shanghai. Softer and airier than the original and a little more floral. Maybe what I wanted Alahiiine to smell like. Nice!
Your SOTD sounds so pretty and fugly is the perfect description of that teapot!
It is quite nice. Didn’t think I’d likeit as much as I do.
Should I try this one since i love Alahiiiine?
It’s been discontinued so I don’t know how easy it is to find. I got my decant from someone in Europe.
Back in the day (way, way, back) I used to wear Opium. It smelled heavenly on me. Haven’t worn it in decades – I sometimes think about buying it again, but something always keeps me from doing that. No doubt the Opium of today is unlike that of my youth, so it’s probably good that I haven’t tried it again.
Opium is getting some retail space at my local casual department store, which is interesting. They had a mid-aisle display, and it seems out of place since most of the frags there are celebuscents. I never smelled original Opium, but the tester smelled quite like Youth Dew to me.
I have a one third full one ounce bottle that you can have if you want! I don’t know how old it is; it smells like what I remember but I never really wore it an only kept it as reference. I need to make some room in my perfume cabinet!
Katrina, thanks so much for the offer! I think, though, that I am going to stay with my fond olfactive memories of the special chemistry that occurred when my younger self wore Opium. And keep my own perfume cabinet in check. 🙂
I sniffed a current bottle of Opium a couple of years ago hoping for a flashback, but it smelled too different. Not bad, but not the same.
Does anyone know if it was repromoted in the 2007 timeframe? I remember being in Macy’s and having the SA really talk it up. It smelled great on me, but I couldn’t swing it. Knowing what I do now about reformulations, I wish I’d bought it. Probably just coincidental.
Orange Sanguine over a base of Pacifica’s Mexican Cocoa
mmmmm, orange + cocoa = yummy
Be careful, somebody might mistake you for a treat and try to take a bite! 😯
I am nothing but skin and bones so I doubt that-LOL! But I DO smell yummy…maybe they will just sniff me 🙂
Perfect! And it fits your screen name!
ha! so true..y’all already know I have a wicked sweet tooth!
and because you eat so healthy all the time I am hanging my head in shame as I tell you that I devoured one of those giant Hershey Milk Chocolate with Almond bars that someone gifted me for Halloween first thing this morning 🙁
Oh, my goodness! I can’t even now! I tell you though my friends have brought me marvelous end of season plums and figs, so deeply rich and sweet and yielding. Just wonderful! 🙂
Oooh, that sounds good! Yves Rocher had a chocolate orange perfume one year at Christmas. It smelled so wonderful that it made me want to eat chocolate oranges. #alreadyatetoomuchpeppermintbark
Don’t you just love it when perfume sets off food cravings? happens to me all the time!
Happy Halloween! We had high winds and rain which caused a power outage early Monday morning. It was restored this morning but there still isn’t any electricity at work. I’m really broken up about it. ???? Celebratory SOTD is Orchidee Vanille which I think is a perfect scent for Halloween.
Bummer you can’t really work today ???? Like a kid with a snow day
I really hate it!
What an excellent surprise!
I am fighting a cold (the disease) and wearing Pino Silvestre, a fougere built around pine. Mixes well with the scents of my cold sprays. 🙂
Whoa — pine cone-shaped bottle, right? I can recall seeing this displayed for sale next to Acqua di Selva. Back in the dark ages!
Yes, that’s the one!
Hope you feel better! Seems everyone is catching this thing.
Thank you!
Um!!! Sounds delicious and quite similar to Orange Bitter and Chocolate. Good replacement!!!!
This was for CM8!!!
LOL!
Rose Barbare today. I had thought it was weak before but now I’m still smelling it quite clearly after 6 hours.
I don’t think I have fougère in my collection. Let me check…
Do you have Jicky? that falls into the category.
No. Sometimes I get a halitosis association from Jicky…
RB is so beautiful!
Wearing Ella today and am currently on a bus to Boston since my fiance wants to treat me to something or has a treat for me. I’m sure I’ll like whatever it is
You smell nice and enjoy your surprise!
Ooh… Exciting!
Fun and I love Ella!
Exciting! Looking forward to hearing about it!
Fougère is my least favourite category but I know I have a sample of Amouage Bracken woman that should count, seeing as bracken is a type of fern. Today I am wearing just some Musc Ravageur body butter as my lungs are still suffering from a lingering hack.
Oh, yum!! You smell great!
I hope you feel better soon. You smell great.
I’m with you on the fougere category. I’ve grown to like most other genres except for this one. Maybe there’s a modern take I have yet to find that will tirn me on to the genre.
For Halloween, vintage Coco EDT and extrait because why freakin’ not? ????
Perfect! ????
Why not, indeed? Love it!
exactly, you smell great!
Oh my, you smell downright gorgeous! Vintage Coco is the best ????
I decided I wanted to smell like spooky forest candy today, so Lolita Lempicka it is.
Great!
Woke up way later than I wanted to, instead of waking up at 9, I woke up a little after 10. I hopped in the shower and the first shirt I grab has Memoir woman on it. So Memoir is my SOTD. I really need to talk to Chase about my credit card and I don’t want to.
Ugh – I hate that kind of stuff, too, but do the call now (or soon) and don’t let it hang over you all day! You smell wonderful!
I will be calling after work today since it’s my late day. I refuse to do it tomorrow. I am creating my script on what to say now.
Good!
Puredistance M, from a sample. I like spicy fragrances in general and especially for fall.
Mmmmm M. I just sampled that recently too. Then I bought a tiny decant. I don’t get anything animalic, dirty hair from it. Do you?
I finally just figured out that it reminds me of Chanel Egoïste. But Egoïste is sharper, and M is richer and warmer.
I’m not that familiar with Egoiste but I will check that out. I read some compared it to Hermes Bel Amie (sp?) but don’t know that one either.
????
That was me, Bel Ami a smooth leather and spice scent.
????
I was just thinking, “I bet M would smell good on Bear.” 🙂
Petunia, no, M doesn’t smell animalic to me, although I may be getting a hint of cumin now.
I think M is sweeter and spicier than Bel Ami, although I have to say I’ve only smelled vintage Bel Ami, and they could be more alike now.
Egoïste should definitely be checked out — it insists! 🙂
Thanks for thinking of me, nozknoz!
Spices and leather do seem to suit my fur !
LOL
????
????
Thanks knoz and Bear!
I wanted something a little less sweet than what I’ve been wearing recently so I’m wearing Voyage d’Hermes. I still haven’t figured out what makes a fougere. I would never have thought that Covet is a fougere. On the other hand, Fragrantica lists Demeter’s Tomato as an aromatic fougere, and Jicky as an oriental fougere.
A classic fougere will have lavender, woods, oak moss, coumarin, bergamot — some people called it the masculine version of a chypre, but that’s a little misleading since there are feminine fougeres and masculine / unisex chypres. Jicky is a fougere, as is Maja, & so are things like Brut & Stetson & Old Spice — lots of the classic men’s fragrances.
Hi everyone, welcome to my first day of snow! 🙁 ugh, luckily I have the day off. It usually rains or snows on Halloween here. I’m wearing Iris Celadon from the split meet. Yay me, I smell great! I keep smelling my wrist, thinking it reminds me of something. Finally, I realized, it faintly and much more softly, reminds me of Lutece. If anyone remembers. My son stepped on my Kindle, so I’m typing through a cracked screen, hope I didn’t misspell anything. Happy Halloween!
❄❄❄❄❄⛄⛄⛄❄❄
No no no no NO !!!
It’s bad enough I have to rake the neighbor’s leaves every 10 seconds, because they all land in my yard, but I’m not ready to shovel. ❄❄❄❄
Even though I actually enjoy it!
LOL
I guess ???? knows what to get you.
????
Oh lordie, bear, I feel your pain as we do the same thing with our neighbor’s pine needles which are even worse than leaves and muck up our grass because of the acidity if we DON’T remove them 🙁
????????????????????????????
Pine needles !
Wear gloves!
????
I’m like a kid in a candy store with the emojis on my phone!
LOLOLOL
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
????
But I already asked Santa for Perfume…
If you’re on the nice list………
If you’re on the naughty list….
Santa may bring you even more! !!!
LOLOLOL
????
????
Ha! If that’s how it works, I will be sitting pretty! Lol
snow???? Yikes!!! Not looking forward to that at all 🙁
Yeah, it’s not going to stick around all week, but it still counts as far as I’m concerned.
The thought of snow terrifies me. Not ready yet for it!
Me too! I hate driving in it.
Snow? Yikes!! I think we will be seeing it later this week as well.
I remember and went through at least 2 bottles of Lutece back in the day. It’s a beautiful fragrance. Thanks for the memory!
Mmmmm M. I just sampled that recently too. Then I bought a tiny decant. I don’t get anything animalic, dirty hair from it. Do you?
Oops…This was meant for nozknoz
Agree, not animalic, unlike Diaghilev, also by Roja Dove.
I’m enjoying M a lot today and wishing I had it in spray form.
OJ Woman from my sample.
I found a small unlabeled sample yesterday and it smells great. Wouldn’t you know? I don’t do things like that (leave them unlabeled), because it drives me crazy… but I guess I did – or maybe it fell out of a its labeled bag?). It smells like a light Chergui. Probably silly to ask, but any ideas?
Thinking about wearing Messe de Minuit for Halloween, for its associations with a dank, dark crypt.
I am actually wearing Messe de Minuit today! Totally by chance: I randomly opened a decant drawer and thought it felt right for the weather, but did not remember it was Halloween until I saw an adorable unicorn on my bus. Pleased to be joining you in this spooky crypt! Although the orange peel lifted it out of gloom for me.
I’m wearing what I think is the pre-formulated version, with less brightness, so I am appropriately gloomy.
Joining you both in MdM. I think I wore this last Halloween too. It just seems right.
Celebrating fougeres and Halloween with a bit of Minotaure 🙂
Is Minotaure a fougere? Hooray, I have something for Friday!
It’s of its era, i.e. a fougere AND an oriental AND animalic AND fruity. It’s kind of disgusting on me, LOL
Oh it’s definitely disgusting – I think it smells like barnyard, dung included – but that’ s kinda why I love it.
SOTD is Teo Cabanel “Alahine”.
Top: bergamot and ylang-ylang;
Mid: jasmine, rose, orange flower and black pepper;
Base: iris, cistus, patchouli, benjoin, vanilla, sandalwood and musk.
On my skin, it’s more Alaho-hum than Alahiiiiiiine.
Yesterday started the day in Olibere “Escapade a Byzance”, which was great. Later spritzed a few drops of Heeley “Phoenicia” which worked better in the cold temperatures (we’re down to 4 or 5C) but is still too sweet for me.
Sunday was Parfums d’Empire “Ambre Russe”
Saturday was Ex Idolo “Ryder”.
For last Friday I had no perfumes left over so I used the remains of a Robert Piguet “Bandit” sample.
Thu: Teo Cabanel “Julia”
Wed: Profumum Roma “Acqua Viva”.
No time to post because TOMK and I (a) were enjoying our relaxing week too much and (b) we think we have found a suitable apartment in Malaga. It’s not our dream house – we’re not yet willing to sell up in the UK and throw everything into one roll of the dice in Spain. So we are buying a place that is affordable and ‘nice enough’ and will serve as a bridgehead from which we can retreat, or a stepping stone from which to advance, depending on how the next year or so turn out.
The apartment is basically sound but has been empty for years and needs a lot of interior remodelling. We might be moving in in February.
Anyway, apart from taking up all our time, this has understandably swallowed my perfume budget, and then some. I shall have to be content with what I have already for a while.
????
Cheers to TOMK and you, Koenigsberg !
????
Iiiiiiii think you smell great!
Yay! I’m really happy you two found a place.
How exciting! I hope you continue to post about all your adventures with remodeling and living (part-time at least) in Malaga!
Congratulations on finding a place!!! 🙂 And Alaho-hum is right. Sigh.
Wow, that’s great news! I hope you have a wonderful time in your new home.
And wanted to add, absolutely love Profumum Acqua Viva!! A perfect fragrance to wear in Spain.
I think you smell great in Alahine and congrats on the new place!
Big congrats on your new place!
OMG! Cheers to you. How awesome to have a second home in La Espana! Really go and fun with the decor of your new place, and always remember that there are those without a roof over their head.
That teapot. If I didn’t have too many already all along the top of my kitchen cabinets! SOTM is Chergui. Might go literal after I go swimming and put on Prada Candy!
Seriously that teapot would give me nightmares!
Rahat Loukoum! Happy Halloween!
Perfect Halloween perfume!
SotD = Caron Narcisse Noir edt
Chose this one because the name reminded me of Narcissa Malfoy. She couldn’t have been all bad, right? She did love Draco as a mother should love all her children, no matter how snotty. Don’t see many Harry Potter costumes at Halloween anymore. Give it a few years and nostalgia will probably bring them back as a bumper crop of baby Harrys and toddler Hagrids.
Anywhoo, Narcisse Noir is very pretty and not dark, so far all very proper florals, but time will tell. Perfume names can be misleading.
I felt like I’d fallen through a rabbit hole this morning with all my frantic googling. Juozas Statkevicius? Thangka? Ann Gottlieb? Learn something new everyday here. I love lavender and aromatic colognes so it is great to get schooled on fougeres. The only fougeres I can think of are Brut, Eternity for men, Cool Water (maybe?), and Bracken Man, but that one’s a cheat because there’s a fern leaf on the bottle.
Happy Halloween to those who indulge, and happy Tuesday to everyone. Let’s make it a beautifully fragrant day.
As a huge Harry Potter fan, I agree with you on Narcissa Malfoy!
Happy Halloween and thanks to the many folks who wished me happy birthday yesterday!
As predicted, my husband bought me a bottle of Miu Miu–I was hoping he would just get me the mini (that was the link I sent him when he asked), but I wound up with 50 mls. It’s the L’eau Bleue flanker, which I prefer… but. It turns out my father-in-law’s significant other asked to have the perfume come from her, so I believe in the end she paid for most of it. Weirdly that makes me feel better.
In other perfume news, my sample of Aura arrived, the new Mugler. Okay. For the record, I do not get toothpaste, at least not any toothpaste I have ever tried. Camphor? Yes! Tart? Yes! Tropical floral? Yes! Loud? YES! This scent makes me think of a synthetic herbal and flower scented candy throat lozenge, loaded with ascorbic acid, that has somehow got stuck to the bottom of your soap drawer in the bathroom. Have a headache? You may want to pass on this one. If anymore has tried Aura and really loved it, please chime in! I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade!!!
You’ve made me want to sample Aura even more!
Thanks for the laugh re:financing of your Birthday present.
LOLOLOL
Those wacky relatives!
Everybody gots ’em !!!!
????
????
oh yay for birthday perfume! and a belated happy birthday to you. I like that Miu Miu flanker better than the first one and the bottle is very pretty.
Happy Birthday Oakland Fresca!! Hope you had a wonderful day!
I totally missed that it was your birthday yesterday. Happy belated! I hope it was a good one.
Happy belated birthday!
I missed your birthday too, so here’s to your special day. It sounds like it was a good one!
Belated Happy Birthday!
I need to send you some Ajona toothpaste 😉
Of one thing I am certain, as much trouble as I may have wearing Aura, brushing my teeth with its doppelganger toothpaste product sounds like something extremely unpleasant (but also kind of hilarious–think of the possibilities: “Brighten and whiten with Chanel No. 19! “Freshen your smile with 24 Faubourg” or “maybe Fight plaque with La Vie Est Belle”).
Samhain Salutations! I’m in Chergui and I smell fantastic. Now gimmee some candy.
…hands Luna Green her candy bag…pick one or two or three..
I like you style! And you smell like fabulousity itself????
Luna- I already ate all of your candy 🙂
Yum! Chergui.
I’m wearing Bruma on a blustery day. It’s witches’ weather, and Bruma equals broom in my book. I bought this during the split meet, unsniffed, and am happy with it. It does remind me very much of something I already have, though. Hayley the Generous tucked in a couple of samples that I look forward to another day.
Oh, good idea — did not associate it with broom!
World Savings Day but also World Spending Day. Oddly enough.
This week I have my own theme, which today I’m following with Olivier Durbano Pink Quartz. A church incense and some roses.
Tomorrow morning I’ll be off to visit the graves of my grandparents and meet with the family. I know of a perfect perfume for tomorrow!
And Happy Halloween to those celebrating it.
I’m wearing Insolence edp, which strangely isn’t that loud on me, so I my husband tells me, anyhow, it’s lovely, and it feels to fit with Halloween theme. Going Trick or treating with my little ones and some friends soon.
Perfect choice for today. If Guerlain made candy it would smell like Insolence.
Definitely!
The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie of all time, purchasing that tea pot is so tempting!
Today I’m wearing Le Labo Iris 39 (edp spray) for a day of interviewing a new Associate Dean candidate for our Library.
Smelling great today!
Happy Halloween! I am wearing Diptyque Essences Incensee 2016 (rose). Lovely Enabler husband got me a gift for our anniversary without asking what perfumes I might like. I told him I have a wishlist on basenotes for future reference. He had gotten me something from Q Brothers in Chicago, which I exchanged for this. He also went and checked my wishlist and also got me Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme. He said that the SA at Neiman Marcus said there was a new scent that has completely sold out every time they get any. Turns out to be F*cking Fabulous and he’s ordered that, as well. Donatella doesn’t count gifts, right? ‘Cuz I would sure have some ‘splaining to do…
wow! you are lucky!
❤️thanks! I think so!
No, Donatella doesn’t count gifts….
Wow, what a sweet husband! And I thought I was lucky mine vacuums the lampshades! 🙂
Thanks! He’s a keeper! His collection is almost as big as mine, actually!
A match made in heaven! Happy anniversary❣
Thanks!
Oh now that is hysterical!!! two married enablers 🙂
The good news is that he also shares…!
That would be dangerous in my house! Happy anniversary, he’s a keeper.
????thanks!
Wow! Super sweet and happy anniversary to you.
Thank you!!!
Happy anniversary!
Before showering today I was experimenting with Dame Chocolate oil. With Rose Delight oil- interesting. With Queen by Queen Latifah- hot fudge sundae. So after my shower I went with Lonestar Memories, to get that sweet out of my nose, and to give a sniff to my hairstylist, who doesn’t like floral or sweet. I hope she likes it.
What did your stylist think of Lonestar Memories?
She liked it. Definitely a leather and smoke kind of woman!!
I love smoke and leather too….soooo good! I always love finding scents for people who are picky about perfumes.
Second day in the ever fabulous Chergui!
Last night a little boy I was sitting next to asked if I had been eating cookies. Thinking I had an issue with my liquid lipstick????, I said “No, why do you ask?” He said “Because you smell like cookies!”
Chergui + C. Booth vanilla butter body lotion = cookies ????????
Btw, this lotion does have incredible sillage ????
Oh how sweet!
Wassup guys!
Your girl is back at work after being coddled in bed these past few weeks after surgery. Weeks of gently cooked food, fresh fruit, lots of rest, warm baths and friends playing maid, making sure everything is clean and neat. Of course, I step outside and everything is wrong: food is too salty or too sweet, noises are too loud, things are messy and I get a head cold! C’est la vie!
SOTD: Cuir 28 by Le Labo. Close to last bits from a sample bottle. No Halloween revels- just giving out candy to kids, and watching movies on Netflix!
Sounds like the perfect Halloween. Hope your recovery is speedy and painless????????
anything good on Netflix to recommend? I watched two very interesting documentaries…one about Israeli cuisine (yeah, i am always thinking about food) whose name escapes me right now and “One of Us”. enjoyed them both and learned a lot. Oh and younger CM8 had me watching Stranger Things with her last night…round two for her, first time for me.
I saw both docs! Excellent, the both of them! I suggest Versailles for an ‘adult’ series- very sexy, but incredribly well plotted. There is Korean drama called Mother, which is excellent, and a truly terrifying adaptation of Stephen King’s Geralds Game.
Glad you’re getting back on your feet, Ede!
Onward and upward!
I like all the Le Labos, you smell great!
Cheers!
????
Thank you!
I hope your recovery is smooth and quick and the world grows to be less jarring.
Back to work already! Hope you’re feeling well. That Cuir sure packs a punch on me. Does it smell at all like weed to you? Not sure I could pull that one off.
In theory, the procedures are such that you can return to work after two weeks, but honestly I should work from home!
The Cuir 28 does not smell like weed on me. I live next to cannabis growers, and their stuff is richer and sweeter than Cuir 28. The cannabis oil I use for pain has a rather warm, subtle hay like scent, like saffron.
Glad to hear you are feeling better!
Have a good recovery!! Glad you’re back to the real world, and I hope you enjoyed being coddled 🙂
Honestly it was nice to have breakfast brought up to me and having fresh Japanese meals made on the daily!
Happy Halloween! I’m feeling suitably witchy today, so all the stars must be lined up.
I’m still in the dregs of Chergui from yesterday and probably won’t apply anything else until later. I’m at Silver Falls State Park for the next couple of days and was just informed this is bear and cougar country and both species seems to be attracted to all kinds of scents including perfume, toothpaste, and dryer sheets. Hmmm.
I got next to zero sleep last night because some idiot (yes, I’m judging!) in the section across the way kept setting off his car alarm at various times in the dead of night. Hence the witchy mood. Plus, it’s COLD!!! Yes, you read that right. C.O.L.D. My water was frozen when I finally surfaced this morning and I had a heck of a time making coffee because my cans of butane fuel were so cold they wouldn’t give me a decent flame.
When I get back from my hike in the wilds, I’m going for the jungle in l’Elephant. Perfect weather for it right now.
Smell well y’all ✌????
Maybe animals were triggering the car alarm?
But if was the owner, he/she wouldn’t have to worry about bears or coyotes !????????????
No coffee? !??!!!
Now you’re gonna make me cry…..????
????
Stay safe, Deva!
????
And now I have to wonder if you’re missing the weather you left behind… 😉
I’m missing it on her behalf ???? That whole sleeping in the cold sounds painful.
No, no, and no! I was quite cozy in my sleeping bag and I have a little space heater I use (if I have electric available) when I wake up, but the in between times are a little chilly, I must admit.
You’ll smell great in Jungle l’Elephant.
Thanks! I’m trumpeting quite loudly right now????
Bears and cougars and dangerous roads? Girl. I worry about you.
In Naja today, layered over Liz Zorn’s Tobacco body oil. Tobacco heaven :).
NAJA!! You smell wonderful! And I bet that combo bumps it another notch????????
Still no fougere for me. I’m in Black Perfecto, courtesy of the ever-generous kpaint. I like it, mostly because I’ve got absolutely nothing else like it. The cherry is so strong (I don’t know why I didn’t believe all your proclamations of CHERRYOMG) that I can’t really smell anything else, except maybe some almond, though cherries themselves sometimes smell almondy, so maybe I can’t smell ANYTHING besides cherries. Will I need more after I work through the ~3 mL decant I’ve got? I really don’t think so. Uniqueness might be necessary but is not sufficient for a purchase.
Feeling much better about life today than I did yesterday 🙂 Happy Halloween!
I know there’s a lot of crossover between cherry and almond (are they botanically related?) and was thinking about that last night when I wore Black Perfecto. I dedided that I get no almond at all – just black cherry. Perhaps more specifically, morello cherries in syrup, and maybe even more specifically, in some kind of delicious cocktail.
That last bit is purely fantasy, though, as I’ve never smelled or eaten a morello cherry in syrup, nor had a cocktail made with them 😉
I think that cherries and almonds are both drupes. Not sure if they are more closely related than that.
Kpaint, I’ve spritzed myself with BP three times today. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe your 3-mL decant WON’T be enough. Uh oh. It’s so sweet, but in a great way. Highly addictive.
FWIW, I read in an old cookbook that cherry pits taste/smell a bit like almonds. Older cherry cobbler recipes sometimes called for unpitted cherries to take advantage of the almond flavor.
As for me and my dental work, we prefer pitted cherries. ????
I have heard of people using fruit pits as food! I have never tried this, but am terribly curious. It’s interesting that they have some almond flavor, and comforting to know that I’m not just delusional!
Best of days to you, all. Today is viva day for that student. Yesterday’s meeting with her was really quite good, so I am permitting myself to be cautiously hopeful that she will do OK. Please, please, may she do OK. I just want her to get through, do her amendments, and beetle off in a southerly direction, never again to be part of my life.
I decided I needed something caaaaaalllllming, and chose Temps d’un Fete. It really is gorgeous. Gorgeous. Wasted on the student, probably, but i’m revelling in it, all those besutifully blended shades of green. It’s like walking along a path in a park, all bordered with different textures of shrubs and ferns, quite dim and quiet, then coming to a gap in planting and feeling warm bright sun for a few seconds. It’s lovely enough to get me on a plane for the long haul back to Paris so I can buy a new bottle. Yum!
I’m wearing a new skirt and bomber jacket today. The dear man has this quizzical look that says he doesn’t like my outfit. The skirt has a modest stripe; the jacket has a panel of spots. I line the combo, it looks cool. The dear one thinks I look muddled. Perhaps both opinions are valid. The success of the outfit will depend entirely on my attitude, but that’s true of every outfit. The kittens haven’t commented, being far too busing mountaineering up and down the wardrobes. My shirts are basecamp, a pile of jigsaw boxes in the far back corner seems to be the summit. Alexander is clearly Ed Hilary, Titus is doggedly determined but not as strong, and little Eric is a bit hopeless. He’s just a little a waft of white fur and hopefulness, but he’s not strong enough to tow hinsekf up like the stripes. He tries…fails and falls…tries…fails. A metaphor for life in a small purring machine.
Well, I’m about to plunge into my day. Be well, all.
I always love your stories and I think you ought to read The Ascent of Rum Doodle to your kittens!
Happy Halloween, NST!
I woke up early so I could spend extra time painting spider eyes on my kid before school. Looked great!
Today I’m wearing Alien, because I wanted something sweet.
What a great idea! I am not in costume for the workday, but I think I’ll give myself spider eyes before heading out to a show tonight!
Just the name “Alien” is on theme for Halloween. You smell great.
Happy Halloween Y’all! I actually pretty excited that this year will be a much more RELAXED Halloween. The kids have outgrown the frantic crazy excitement; and are going to stay in and help pass out the candy and such. (I think the middle kid is going out in the neighborhood with a group of friends.) Enjoy your evening everyone!
I went with a good dousing of Atelier Pomelo Paradis on my way out the door….
in my mind that is your signature scent….
oh you know I was just thinking …that would be a great community project! Wear a fragrance that you associate as a “signature” scent for another NSTer (because they wear it often or rave about it)
That’s a great project….and YES! This is my “always works” scent, and I never get tired of smelling it! 🙂
That is a great idea for a community project!
I can’t decide if yours would be Shalimar or Lonesome Rider! ????
Definitely Shalimar I think! I love Lonesome Rider (wearing it today as a matter of fact!) but have to have my Shalimar- in several iterations. I could do without the LR if forced, but I doubt I could do without the Shalimar. 😉
This morning I knocked a bottle of Eau des Merveilles Bleu off the shelf onto the tile floor. The bottle didn’t break, but the metal part ent and now the lid won’t compress 🙁 only you all would understand my pain????
I’m very sorry to hear that! Maybe someone knows a way to fix it?
Yes let’s hope so.
The other suggestion – remove the metal cap and use a needle syringe to remove the juice into a decant bottle. Youtube has this tutorial
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaXrYRumeBo
Thanks clarissa. I might try that if the bottle can’t be fixed.
Wow, I wish I had seen this before going through my current splitmeet disaster. Huh. Where can one legally buy needles? I used to have easy access to them when I used to work in a chemistry lab, but now that I work with plasmas, I don’t know where to find them.
I waste sooo much when I decant so also glad to know. You can buy them at a pharmacy but not sure if you can only buy insulin syringes which are less than 1ml.
The weather seems to be finally warming up here, I’m looking out at a lovely sunny morning, so utterly not like Halloween!
I’m thinking I’ll go with Le Galion’s La Rose today.
Happy Halloween! I wanted to wear Salvador Dali pour Homme today but it’s still too warm and sunny for that particular scent. I went with Musc Ravageur – interestingly (to me, at least) there’s a review on Basenotes arguing that this is actually a fougere and not a musk at all. Enjoying it, whatever it is . . .
I think it’s neither. It’s spicy amber-vanilla to me. But you smell good!
I get lots of cinnamon/spice and not much musk. I did detect the lavender in the opening when I wore it today, which I hadn’t noticed before. Everyone seems to smell something different with this one!
I looked on Fragrantica to see what I might have that qualifies as a fougere and I own nothing. It’s not surprising, really, because I don’t like lavender in scents. I think my Ambre Precieux has lavender listed as a note, but it must be deeply buried because I don’t smell it at all. So I’ve gone a different route this week, in sandalwood, and today I’m wearing Champagne de Bois.
Love the teapot and I don’t even drink tea. Or own dust-collecting geegaws.
Fougere is not likely to be the most popular category around here! But I figured all the fragrance families ought to get their day…
Boo, I’m back to work today after a 4 day weekend. I’m wearing Messe de Minuit, one of my favorite strange and spooky perfumes.
I am trick or treating myself by trying the Areej le Dore samples that arrived yesterday. So far I’ve gotten a trick (Atlantic Ambergris… meh). 3 more to go, perhaps there will be a treat in there somewhere. Or perhaps the treat is that my $ will stay in my bank account for use on other treats 🙂
Chilly here! I am thinking it may finally be time to swap summer fumes for winter. Something fun to do this weekend!
I liked Atlantic Ambergris a lot. Actually I liked all of the samples from the new batch – I am in deep trouble
Ha, I thought you might like them, since I am not liking them at all due to the animalics. 🙂
The only one I like is the Atlantic Ambergris. The others were weird/unpleasant on me. More money saved!
I’m wearing Dzing! today in tribute to one of my very favorite books, Something Wicked This Way Comes. I always re-read it in the week leading up to Halloween, and it never fails to impress me. (It doesn’t scare me like it did when I first read it decades ago, but now other parts of it give me the willies.)
Happy Halloween! May all the goblins you see be adorable toddlers just trying to get some candy.
Ray Bradbury was amazing! My favorite was The Illustrated Man which was about a guy whose entire body was tattooed. At night the tattoos would come to life to play out a story. Creepy and amazing, like a train wreck you can stop watching. ☠️
My parents used to read me stories from The Illustrated Man. I had no idea until I read it for myself the first time how scary the parts that they “forgot” to read aloud were – the ending absolutely terrified me.
Love, love, love Ray Bradbury.
Somehow I don’t think I’ve ever read The Illustrated Man. But Something Wicked This Way Comes is one of my all-time favorites.
I finally read Something Wicked This Way Comes last October and loved it so much. That’s a good tradition you have to re-read it every year. Earlier this month I read Bradbury’s The Halloween Tree.
I think The Illustrated Man might be too much for me (I’m a wimp), but I have a wonderful memory of my 6th grade teacher reading us Edgar Allen Poe’s The Telltale Heart. She was an expressive reader and held a room full of 11 year-olds spellbound. I can still hear that “thump, thump – thump, thump.” Chilling.
Happy Halloween everyone. My SOTD is CdG Black.
You smell great!
Great choice!
SotD was French Lover
SotE is Poison, esprit de parfum (from a mini, less harsh/sharp than the edt)
Happy Halloween!
Wearing Lancome Magie Noire. Last drops from a vintage bottle of the parfum, the one with the glass stopper and Halloween orange and burgundy v-stripes going down the center… they don’t make ’em like that anymore. And to make things super-witchy, down went a drop of Tabu in the cleavage. Hell hath no fury….
Woo hoo! Smelling bewitching!
Wearing L’artisan Mirabilis today.
I’m dressed up as Jennifer Parker (Marty McFly’s girlfriend in Back to the Future) for a work Halloween costume party. I wore MOR’s Lychee Flower rollerball today because it’s fruity and flowery and I think Jennifer Parker would wear something like that ha! Yes, I put too much thought into it. I have to say, this stuff really hangs in there. It’s almost 3:00 and I can still smell it on me.
You all smell marvelous of course! Happy Halloween!
Enjoy the party. You smell great!
Happy Halloween, NST! It’s good to be back. Like has been incredibly hectic/stressful the past couple of weeks, but I think things are slowing down to a reasonable pace. (Knock on wood that I didn’t jinx it!)
Yikes! on that teapot! Fugly is indeed the perfect description for it.
Very happy to see both Bear and Poodle post here recently.
SOTD = ELdO’s Like This, from the sample stash. Between the pumpkin and the immortelle, I think this works for the sweeter side of Halloween.
Thanks Jalapeno !!
Here’s to less stress, and a reasonable rhythm for life.
You smell great !
😀
Thank you, Bear! I had an extra tough workout today and thought of you. Been upping the weight on some of my reps…
Excellent !!
Rock on !!!
;D
Argh! Stupid typo… should be “life” and not “like”.
Wearing Lush’s Sikkim Girls (Big-White-Flowers! Really big) and wondering if we’ll have any trick-or-treaters tonight. In 17 years, I think we’ve had maybe 10 or 12. I miss seeing all the kids in their costumes. Of course, that’s offset by the fact that I’ll have lots of leftover candy to eat. 🙂
Happy Halloween, all!
We live so far outside a neighborhood that we never get trick-or-treaters. In fact, after we built the house on the farm, I would take my children back to our old neighborhood to trick-or-treat because if we stayed where we could just walk from house to house, we’d only have visited four houses.
🙂 My grandmother grew up on a farm, and when I asked her about what she did on Halloween as a child, she said said she never trick-or-treated: “I wasn’t walking a mile and a half for a popcorn ball or an apple.”
Not on theme, either for the CP or holiday, as I very groggily grabbed and sprayed a decant of Nobile 1942 Ambra Nobile this morning (thanks, clarissa!) It is YUM! My BdI split arrived today so I had to spritz a bit on my hand, and together the 2 conspired to smell a bit like Coromandel. The combo made me realize I’d never noticed the aldehydes in Coromandel before, but I think they’re there, eh?
