It's Wednesday, and it's General Pulaski Memorial Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a dab of Calvin Klein Obession, by Jean Guichard.
Reminder: on 10/13, wear a fragrance by Aurélien Guichard or Jean Guichard.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: image is from the Fall 2017 Calvin Klein 205W39NYC campaign.
My second time trying a Lubin fragrance.
L de Lubin
Something about this reminds me of Cristalle, anyone else?
Pleine Lune tea
Lipstick queen lippy
I thought it was citrusy and pleasingly retro – but I’ve not tried Cristalle so I don’t know if they are related in that way. My favourites are Idole, Black Jade and Akkad.
I like Korrigan and Epi d’Or . Of the two, Korrigan is probably more of an autumn scent .
Kelly Clache in EdT in the morning
and now I switched to Parfum des Merveilles, which I haven’t worn for maybe 5 yaers =)
It’s still good, but I have to say, I like Eau des Merveilles much better.
I wonder if Kelly Caleche parfum mignt be an improvement over its EdT version?
Is it more leather or more flowers and iris?
The EdP is a tad more leather, but not much. Have not tried the Parfum, sorry!
In Parfumes de Nicolai Week-End in Normandy, just because I was craving badly for it. It is a salty-sweet green perfume delicate and pretty. It has been an absolute love since the first time I sampled it. I wear it especially when I need simple beauty around me.
That sounds lovely.
Soooo tiiirrred. Hoping LL The Noir can supply me with some trans-dermal caffeine.
Criminy, pass the bottle then! I am tired too.
SOTD is Vol de Nuit extrait.
Ohhh, I’m fasting for a couple of weeks from this sexiest introvert of perfumes to start being able to smell it again.
I envy you!
Do you wear vintage or new? How long have you been wearing it?
I never smelled vintage and I don’t want to, because I don’t like to cry 🙂 So I’m always happy to hear people say that it still smells like Jacques meant it to smell in 1933)) I’ll even take “almost” =)
The extrait I have is the cube-shaped tester bottle, and I’m not sure how old it is. I also wear (and love) vintage EDT and cologne formulations, and have tried the current EDT formulation (which is very nice, but somewhat pale and wan by comparison to vintage). Most Guerlains don’t sit well on me, but VdN seems made with me in mind. Vintage EDT is relatively easy to find on ebay or etsy, if you decide to risk tears and hunt some down. Or, if you’re in the US, I can send you samples of vintage EDT and/or cologne – give me a holler at scgrether in the land of the geee mayle.
Thank you! May be I’ll overcome my fears someday and order something vintage. But not only I’m not in US, my country has actually made it to the list of “5 Worst Countries To Ship To” So it makes it even more difficult))
Maybe I need to read more closely – just reread all of the comments so I’m sorry for not paying attention!!
Oh, no, stop.
You were so kind to offer!
It’s worth so much more than paying attention 🙂
Oh dear, now I’m sad too! Your mail mostly misplaced, not able to just order samples of things on a whim … makes me wish I knew someone who travels there who could mule things to you. 🙁
Yes, I completely understand the “made with you in mind” part.
When people say that they have a dream imaginative perfume, but it does not exist yet, or they haven’t found it yet… I’m always glad that I have found mine:)
Veronica if you are in US I can send you a small decant I have. Pls email me if you are interested. Beas dot Beverly attt Gmail dot com. I’ll double check but I think I still have it ????
Sorry spell check changed your name Veronika.
thank you so much!
No worries, it’s a transliteration anyway, since my native alphabet is not latin. And nickname with a “c” was already taken when I registered.
I’m not in US. I’m in Russia. 90% of our post gets lost or damaged:)
So I will never agree to waste vintage perfume that way anyway.
The coolest description of Parfum des Merveilles I’ve heard was:
a lacquered pianoforte recently polished with a lemon scented wax.
I loved polishing furniture when I was a child. It was the only chore I loved doing at home. And we had this nicely scented french wax… Parfum des Merveilles base notes bring back those memories.
And it’s opening notes are reminiscent of my mom’s silk scarf she wore under her hat in winter months.
I’m wearing Gucci Guilty for the first time in a while. I like, but don’t love it.
I wore it earlier this week but didn’t report in; feel the same. My nose is educated a bit, methinks, and it smells nice, but like any generic perfume.
I agree. Its safe for work, which was a consideration today. I remember loving it a few years ago. Now I can’t think why.
Wearing Santa Maria Novella Acqua di Cuba, a sweet, spicy leather.
The opening smells like lemon Halls – sweet and soothing with a promise of better things to come.
Cousins ! I am wearing SMN Melograno today 🙂
I haven’t tried that one, and SMN is notoriously stingy with samples. Pomegranate sounds citrusy and rather sharp, but am I wrong ??
It is very powdery. I just checked fragrantica, and the way its rated, oakmoss is the prominent note.
It’s quite powdery and soapy.
I tried that one at SMN Apothecary in Florence. Bought Citta di Kyoto in the end.
I do remember testing that one. It is a beautiful scent.
Woke up 10 minutes before my daughters bus was due to pick her up. We were both running around like crazy. I hope she ends up being able to have a good day. It’s cold and rainy here, the perfect weather for sleeping in. I’m off to work wearing Cuir Impertinent, lots of cherry tobacco at top, with a soft leather drydown. Have a good day everyone!
I hated mornings like that. I hope both you and your daughter’s day is better than your morning 🙂
I remember mornings like that ???? Hope your day improves!
Thanks! Fortunately the morning was the most eventful part of my day.
It’s my turn to wear Narciso by Aurélien Guichard. Waterdragon described it beautifully on Tuesday.
Sorry, that was on Monday.
That will be my Friday! You smell great.
Wearing “Civet” today. Really disliked this among all in the Zoologist line initially, but now I find it really comforting, spicy, unsweetened…an especially apt masculine IMO, particularly in very early drydown.
I’m so interested in this one and I really want to try it. Haven’t ordered it yet. But I’d like to hear more of your description.
Is it strong like a men’s evening fragrance? Is it an oriental or something else? Why didn’t you like it at first? What colors come to mind while it develops? Are there any disturbing notes like sour fruits or paws unwashed? =)
I wish I were better at describing perfumes but I’ll try. This is fabulous and there are no sour notes or dirty paws. It’s quite a complex combination, with some very tangy fruity notes up front, like lemon, a bit tingly. There is a bit of spice and a strong green herbal note which I think is the tarragon that is listed. And there is something ambery or resinous. I simply do not get anything stinky, musky, or skanky here, but I guess some do. I did order the small spray bottle of it right away since I liked this best from the sample set. It is a unique fragrance and I hope you get to try it sometime. As well as Bat, which is the next one I plan to buy. I have lavished myself with a lot of sprays of Civet and gotten no complaints.
Totally agree with this, and I’ll add that I didn’t find it overly masculine. Great scent for both sexes.
I just ordered a decant of this! Looking forward to trying it.
SOTD is two generous blasts of PdE Corsica Furiosa because it’s supposed to be eighty-flippin’-seven degrees today. Stick a fork in me, I’m DONE!
On a positive note, I’m hitting the road in the AM for cooler climes, better views, a bit of serenity and solitude, and quality T-Tex time. She had a last visit to the dog park this morning to say hello and goodby to her friends and to run her little tushie off. Proud of how polite and mannerly she was with all the dogs, big and small, and played according to their temperment. She’s wonderful with timid dogs, but when it comes to playing rough with bigger dogs, she gets carried away and has to have a time out. The van is mostly packed, and finishing up a few errands today. Goodbye South Carolina, state of washboard roads, vicious biting ants, neon sunsets, and undulating hills of green.
Happy Humpday to all. And thank you for the Pulaski info! Now I know how Pulaski Road in Chicago got its name. Also, if you missed it yesterday, freebies are all mailed and en route. Cheers!
Have a safe trip!!
Thank You!
UGH UGH 87 degrees!! We’re supposed to be at 83.
Mals, maybe if you give yourself a spritz of the lovely Tabac Aurea, the weather gods will line up with the perfume gods and fall weather will arrive! Wishful thinking on my part…..:)
I can’t wait to sample new Parfum d’Empire – Le Cri de la Lumiere.
I love so many in this line! I don’t think there is one that I have tried that I would turn down if it fell into my lap. However, those big bottles are a big no-go for me. Let us know how you like the newest offering, I’m very curious about it.
Le Cri will actually come in 50 ml but I know what you mean. They had 50 ml in old packaging. When new packaging came, they got rid of smaller size.
Have a nice and safe trip Deva!
Thank you!
You are smelling good! I am in the “cheaper” version of herbally tomato leaf and greens with eau de campagne…I think it was you who recommended that I try this one when I was on my tomato leaf hunt and it is ltsg who gifted me the bottle….and because I have an FB i have been spraying lavishly all day long (it doesn’t last long on my scent eating skin)….when I turned the bottle upside down today (which gives a more accurate indication of how much is left) I came to see that I am halfway done with it!!!
Enjoy your time off 🙂
Safe travels to you!
Be safe!
You smell great, and happy trails!
As Bugs Bunny used to say on occasion “Bon Voy Ah Gee!”
Safe journey to you, looking forward to hear where you land!
Happy trails, Deva!
Since I am Guichard-less I’m wearing my fall favorites this week. Today it’s HdP Ambre 114. Seriously considering replacing my down-to-the-dregs bottle of Ambre Sultan with this!
Love Ambre 114! Picked up a little bottle of it during the Sephora sale last fall, I believe. Need to get it out and use it.
It’s really lovely. I ignored my sample for quite a while because I thought I would hate the vanilla note, but it actually adds just the right sweetness.
Douce Amere sample from the generous Lisa D. I immediately ordered a decant and maybe Christmas I’ll get the bottle. My first bell jar.
It’s my favorite Lutens – the softest and most wearable of the bunch, IMHO. It’s got none of that intensely spiced, stewed fruit (which I do like occasionally, and which I used to like much more back in the early days of my obsession), but instead comes out of the bottle well balanced, lightly spiced, not too heavy, really interesting and lovely. So glad you like it, and not sorry for the enabling…. 🙂
Douce Amere IS pretty. I’m not a huge Lutens fangrl, but that’s one of the few of the line that I like.
I agree with you it is very pretty. I’m glad to have tried it!
Yes enabler pin for you! ???? thank you again!
That’s a nice one 🙂 a bell jar! So exciting! Do you have a Paris trip planned, or will you have to get it somehow in the US?
I looked at Barney’s online and it’s in stock. I know nothing about buying these-I’m guessing I can just order it online from them?
Ah, makes sense! I’m not fancy enough to frequent Barney’s 🙂 so I didn’t remember that they might have one. But hooray!
…Just looked it up. $310 for 75 mL. Oof. For something like that, I’d definitely want to buy it in real life. You know–to get the cute little bag, to have a pleasant (one hopes) interaction with the SAs, and to get a handful of fun samples.
Ha yeah I hear you. For sure it isn’t the same when it arrives in a brown box dropped off on my porch. I’m guessing the bottles are on the smaller side? Maybe they’ll add some samples? I’ll live with my decant and decide if I want to order the bottle. And then I’ll have to put a halt to buying for awhile…a long while!
flopper, you can also order the bell jars from Shop France, Inc. The last I recall, they were $242. If you sign up for her newsletter, you can place your order when she sends out an alert that she’s taking a trip to Paris.
Oh thank you Holly. I follow her on eBay and so I’ll sign up for the newsletter!????
Hmm. I’m signed up for her newsletter but don’t recall ever having got one announcing a shopping trip.
Replying up top here…I’ve ordered from Suzan before, and she is just wonderful. Great communication and service.
I checked my latest email from her, and she returned from her last trip on 10/2. She seems to go every couple of months, so I’m pretty sure you’d have an opportunity to order again before Christmas.
Oh nice!
I love Douce Amere.
Isn’t it pretty? And for me it’s lasted all day!
In FM Superstitious. I wanted to feel fabulous at work 🙂
You definitely smell fabulous!
Santa Maria Novella Melograno
They do make great scents
I slept in this morning as well and dashed out without perfume. I found a sample of Beige in my purse, so I am smelling elegant even though it is “Spirit Wear Wednesday” and I am wearing a bright yellow school t-shirt and jeans.
I need more samples in my purse 🙂
1932 EDT!
Haven’t tried the EDP of this one…any opinions on the EDP please?
I am also curious about the EDP version. I do enjoy wearing 1932 EDT.
I have some of each. The EDP is missing that spritely, cheering citrus of the EDT, but its drydown is a beautiful lightweight version of 31 RC, IMO. It does last a tiny bit longer on me than the EDT.
Thank you for the analysis. I have always found 1932 and 31 RC to be related as well.
I just clicked on the link above for Aurelien Guichard and he is rather easy on the eyes. ????
Oh, yes he is! I had the same thought…
I’m sitting in Epic Woman right now and I am debating on if I should wear Obsession today (after my Shower) or when I get off work on Friday. The littlest bit of Obsession goes a long way. My bottle of Obsession is almost 20 years old. If I don’t wear Obsession today, I will probably go for Theorema today.
do it! Sounds lovely!
Vintage Obsession is glorious! I think I will wear it on Friday.
A VERY long way. A little dab’ll do ya.
When I suspect my nose is having an “off” day, I sniff my bottle of Obsession. If I can’t smell it, I know it’s me and not the perfume.
Genius
LOL!
Started the day off in Miller Hattie Vetiver Insolent. Really gorgeous incense Vetiver, ginger is a pronounced note on my skin, at least what smells like ginger. It’s become a firm autumn favourite. I’ve just sprayed on Dzonka, since getting home from a rubbish day at work.
Really hope to try this some day! Love MH.
i hope your job gets sorted out soon so your days get happier
Traffic is getting worse and worse in Poznan. Why does this city even need a bus timetable if they arrive at their own times, not according to schedule.
Prada Infusion d’Oeillet today. I was late but at least I was smelling good.
You do smell good. And your grump about the bus schedule made *me* laugh, even though I don’t have to deal with it.
Thanks for the compliment.
Others might be laughing at it but for me it’s a disaster…
Good morning everyone….
Wearing a sample of Madera Omnia Profumi this AM……a gorgeous caramel! Soooooo good! I do wish it lasted longer though…
I should get out all those Piguet samples I have, but I can’t be bothered to do it today. Friday, I will.
SOTD is Cuir de Lancome, which I may regret later since we’re at 79F now and expecting to get warmer by the afternoon. WHERE IS MY FALL WEATHER???
The haircut and new color turned out very nice, and The CEO actually commented that he liked the cut better than any other way I’ve worn my hair in the past several years. (He’ll have to come around to the color. I’ve been doing it blonder than it is since Taz was born, and I’m tired of that.)
OH! and I didn’t know it was Gen. Pulaski Memorial Day. I live in one of the seven US counties named after him.
Twins. I love when the cool, crisp air arrives so I can pull this one out!
That’s a fun one 🙂 I wore it once this summer, soon after getting a decant, and nearly suffocated. Sooooo now I’ll wait!
Your weather is over here. You can take it back and keep it any time you like! ;^)
SEND IT. I’ll pay the shipping. 😉
Us Chicagoans would say that Casimir Pulaski day is the first week in March! 😀 Didn’t know there was a national day as well.
Smelling delicious in Versiliam Aurum today.
I had never heard of him, despite the fact that there is a Pulaski Highway near Baltimore.
Yeah, if you lived in the Chicago area you would know him because of the large Polish population. We always had the day off school which was nice.
I was in the mood for something fun and sprayed on Histories de Parfums Tubereuse 2 Virginale which I got once as a freebie. It fills the bill! Probably not a good fall scent but still, cheery.
I am wearing Zoologist Nightingale today. Finally it actually felt like fall this morning. Too bad it’s supposed to get into the mid 80s this afternoon. Blerg.
In reliable autumn standby, Cuir de Lancome and all is right with the world. To me, it’s like a comforting hug from a dear friend.
Beautiful description of Cuir de Lancome!
Oh yes.
Failed to put something on this morning, but promptly spilled coffee on myself arriving at work. So….Eau de Keurig.
Now that it is cooling down, thinking I will revisit a sample of vintage Mitsouko, see what I can learn.
I would love me some Eau de Keurig right about now 🙂
Fraternal twins? I am in Mitsouko as well, albeit the current formulation.
Olivine Full Regalia. Musky, vanillic jasmine. Very pretty but I’m not totally feeling it today. Too warm out still for something this sweet (and it’s only low 70s I think).
I tried several of her scents last year in oil format but found them on the sweet side. They are nicely done and I did like her gardenia.
They are nicely done. I didn’t try the gardenia (I think that’s the one called Olivine?). And they are sweet, though the jasmine one (She Belongs There) isn’t too sweet for me. Though none are sickly sweet- I just have a low tolerance for sweet.
Just spritzed on some Lostmarch Lann Ael for comfort. I smell like a bowl of Apple Jacks! I’ve had back issues for a long time but feeling OK lately. Of course, you stop doing your PT exercises and then one day, wham! Back again, laying on my back with an ice pack 🙁
It’s my own fault probably – we’ll see what the physical therapist says today. Really bummed since I have a concert to go to tomorrow and not sure if I’ll be able to make it.
I checked the list and I actually had one Guichard – Heidi Klum Shine that someone had given me as a freebie with a swap long ago. I never smelled it, so finally just did. Nothing special, but not terrible. Just not for me, at least not today.
Yeah… gotta keep doing that PT. Years ago I had to do PT for almost a year for a knee issue. At one point I asked the doctor how long I would need to do the exercises. He hesitated. I said: for life, right? Mmm hmm.
My doctor took a different approach and snorted and barked out Ha! This is the tip of the iceberg! (He’s actually a very nice guy, and I appreciate his quirky sense of humor and honesty.)
Oh, dear. Hope you’ll feel better soon!
Apple Jacks! Haven’t had those since I was a kid many moons ago, but they were right up there with Alphabits, and Cap’n Crunch. You smell great????
Ouch, feel better!
Oh yuk! Back pain is some of the worst. Hope you feel better soon.
Oh no! Feel better soon!
Thanks everyone! I do feel a bit more optimistic after going to PT. Plenty more visits and exercises in my future.
Shalimar Parfum Initial L’eau for me today (double flanker points!)
Smokey here in Silicon Valley. Friends who have been displaced by the Napa fires are moving in with us starting tomorrow. They still don’t know if their home is safe or not.
We’re going to have a cat zoo! Our 2 boys + their 3 girls. Ohhhhhh my! Our rowdy Kooky boy outweighs their girls by 2x, and Cole thinks he’s the king of the universe… should be interesting watching the kitty politics sort themselves out.
I hope everything goes well with your extended cat and human family
Ditto this.
Triple this. Feeling for all of you. Gotta be hard..
Thanks. Yeah the not-knowing is the hard part, for now. Some fire maps show their home inside the burn perimeter, some show it just outside. Of course the house could be fine even if it is inside the perimeter. Their daughter tracked down a journalist who said they’d been on their street yesterday, and there was no damage then. Fingers crossed.
+ 1
Let’s hope your friends’ house is fine. I’m sure that people will be alright in this forced situation, so I wish all 5 kitties to get along fine.
It was better this morning where I work (San Mateo area) but it’s awfully smoky outside now – I cannot even imagine how bad it is in Napa and Sonoma at this point 🙁
Dang! now our friends have to evacuate from Fairfield. Heading home to meet them. The kitty zoo will be starting ahead of schedule.
I have s friend who left Fairfield earlier. I’m beginning to worry about my daughter in Vallejo. The whole disaster is weighing on my mind and heart.
Joining you Robin in vintage Obsession. Thank you KPaint for this old school beauty! Perfect for this cold, rainy day. A huge number of friends wore Obsession when it was released. (I was head over heels for Coco at the time. Still am! ????)
Hey twin!
I was like your friends at the time but switched to Obsession for Men and preferred it. I had a friend who wore Coco and I didn’t really get it then, and still don’t! 😉
I love Obsession for Women – even the current formulation is good. I’m excited to smell the new versions when they come out. (They’re probably already out? Or will be soon?)
I was thinking iris but didn’t want anything melancholy or wistful as iris can read to me. The weather here in the DC area is very overcast and humid but that’s being dissipated by a strong breeze. I often notice the shifts in the noises from wildlife, and the crickets are still active 24/7 here. It feels odd so late in the year and I couldn’t figure out what perfume would fit this weather and the sounds of crickets, a few birds and the swaying of the trees. Then it came to me: Prada’s Purple Rain which somehow manages to have a bright lift to it which may be from the aldehydes. Lucas did a lovely review of it:
https://chemistinthebottle.wordpress.com/2016/05/18/prada-purple-rain/
Also, I was thinking that VC&A’s Bois d’Iris would fit the bill, *but I don’t have that* because when I ordered my decant I chose TDC’s by mistake. Anyone else ever make a similar dumb*ss blunder?
I have once ordered Vetiver Bourbon instead of Violettes du Czar.
Oh dear! Well, at least now we know to pay a little more attention. I guess I should be grateful that I bought Purple Rain instead of Purple Reign. 😉
You are smelling good and that is a perfect scent for the crazy weather we have been having…I too am thrown off by the sounds of crickets and the balmy humidity in the middle of October. The warm weather has made me crave the warm weather scents, when, under normal circumstances, I would be in more autumn like perfumes.
It’s not balmy here but it’s not cool either. I dunno, it just feels off and words fail me. 😉
Haha. Do you at least like the TDC version?
I like it fine, but it just doesn’t hit the spot for me. I don’t like to have anything “meh” if I can help it. 🙂
Yes. I accidentally ordered 2 samples of the same Amouage perfume when I thought I had ordered the masculine and feminine versions Derp!.
Oh yes, I can definitely see that happening! I’ve also bought the wrong version of something. Plus multiples of the same sample on separate occasions. Derp! is right. 😉
I have a new bottle of VC&A BdI. Would you like a sample? My email laugsb @ sbcglobal dot net
Yep, I accidentally bought a decant of Puredistance M from a UK-based splitter instead of Opardu (or it could have been Puredistance I) from a US-based splitter. To this day, I could not figure out how that happened but eh.
Morning, all. I feel like wearing bling today, and I’m trying to find a bling-ful perfume to match. Actually, my idea of being “blinged out” isn’t very extreme. I’m not in body-hugging lurex or anything. There’s enough suffering in the world without my adding that particular affliction. However, my little jeans jacket is a pale wash denim with mis-matched “jewel” buttons, here a blue sparkly daisy one, there an “emerald” one surrounded by “diamonds”, and then a random, but pleasing pale yellow. Is that meant to be citrine? It’s all a heap of fun, but I don’t think I own a similarly light-hearted perfume….but yes! What about Vanille Galante? It seems to sparkle and dance. Yes, that will do nicely.
In kitten news, I have now trained the purrs to recognise the words “water pistol”. I only have to speak the awful name and they cease and desist all wickedness and assume expressions of extreme innocence. If I actually fetch the dread device, they scatter to three winds, and for, oh, fully 30 seconds at least, you’d not believe there was a kitten in the house.
So, I must pootle work-wards. What an easy day I have ahead. An easy diary, Vanilke Galante, and blinged-up buttons. What could be better? Be well, all.
Ha! Love the way you’ve trained the kits.
My sister’s and I used to scatter like that when we’d hear our mom mutter at us from the kitchen and then we’d hear the front door open and and slam shut. Meant one thing. She was heading to the willow tree to get a switch and threaten our ankles with it. Worked like a charm. Out the backdoor we went, up through the field behind the house. She probably never even stepped outside…
Have a great day Waterdragon! It’s so cold here I’m still rocking my woolly vests – a bit of a negative bling situation
Wow I’m truly impressed at their vocabulary! The only word my cats recognize is catnip, so I always spell it when I’m talking about it, but I think they are starting to recognize even that! So much excitement!
Auphorie’s Myako. Any other Auphorie’s fans out there 🙂
I really liked Miyako …partly because it smells almost identical to Eden Botanicals’ osmanthus absolute essential oil…which is so complex it wears like a perfume on my skin…..I haven’t tried any others from the Auphorie line.
I thought Miyako was well done but not really my style. Glad to have sniffed the line, though!
I like Regal Secret. Just ordered a sample of one of their newer ones from Tigerlily… L’Histoire Oubliée de Dunhuang. Will report back once I give it a sniff 🙂
I still have a bit of Miyako left. I liked Eternal Voyage best from what I tried.
I only have one Guichard for Friday, so saving it. I’m in Mitsouko today just because. I find one spritz of this is perfect for me, which is unusual, because I’m usually a 2-3 spritz person.
I cannot remember the last time I only wore 2-3 spritzes on my scent eating skin….oh wait…Salome…one swipe of the sample wand on each arm….
I’m like you, but last night I did 3 sprays of Shalimar Mexique and it was perfect and I could still smell it this morning. Mmm.
For this week’s project, I have Lou Lou and Baghari, but don’t feel like wearing either of them, so I may not participate in Friday’s project. Today I’m wearing African Leather. At the Portland Sniffa I discovered that The Perfume House carries Memo! So glad. They also carry George F. Trumper, and I sniffed the Sandalwood one. It’s really good and reasonably priced, too. I’m always on the lookout for a good sandalwood.
Would you like to try Bruno Fazzolari Unsettled? He sent me extra samples with a card asking to pass them along. So I must comply 🙂
I’d love to! Do you still have my address?
I think so. Will check once I get home.
Did you see the Memo bottles in person, then? I love looking at them online, but wonder if they’re actually nice IRL.
Yes. They really are pretty, and the gold paint is good quality so it doesn’t cheapen the look of the bottles.
Ah! Good to know. It’s easy for that style to go in the tacky direction. *continues lemming*
Sensuous Nude today. No reason, other than I spied the bottle sitting in the cabinet and thought, “been awhile…what’s that like?” It’s nice, pleasant, warm. Happy to snuffle my arm.
Speaking of warm…really getting sick of this warm weather. I want crisp, I want leaves, I want Fall! I want to get my hair trimmed shorter, which I refuse to do until I’m assured the heat is done!
On the movie front, I took advantage of the $5 Tuesday deals going on to see Blade Runner 2049 yesterday. It’s very good. Affecting, absorbing and seemed shorter than its long running time. (Love those recliner seats). Gentleman next to me said, “wow” when it was over. Interesting that pretty much every preview was high action movie…Geostorm, Pacific Rim 2 for example. BR isn’t an action movie by any means.
I can’t wait to see Geostorm. I just love utterly stupid over the top disaster movies. My current favorites are 2012 (every disaster! all at once!) and The Day After Tomorrow (troposphere!!!)
Yes, they are highly entertaining. My foreign, independent film-loving husband doesn’t get it.
I love DAT. I snort and laugh all the way through. My favorite bit is when they collect all the books to burn for warmth, ignoring and bypassing all the wooden chairs and tables.
Armageddon rocks.
Heeheehee. Those were the worst CG wolves. I can’t believe they couldn’t get some real ones.
I hadn’t gone out to see a movie in almost 15 years until I discovered that one of our local theaters has recliner seats. (The reason I stopped altogether was due to the extreme discomfort of sitting in those cramped Greyhound-bus torture devices with no legroom.) It is a totally different experience now. I bring a blanket and cuddle up! I also very much appreciate the big arms, all my own, with cupholders (!) And not being crowded in by people on either side.
*My husband assures me that even theaters without full recliners have seats that are just as comfortable but I’ve thus far refused to go anywhere else than the recliner place.
Anyway, I’m excited to see the new BR even though I have never been much of a fan of the original.
Oh, I’m dying to go! I went to a friend’s house and we watched the original last night because she’s never seen it. I was amazed by how great it still looks. And Rutger Hauer! Oh, my! We are going to see the sequel very soon, maybe tomorrow. I like that movie theaters now sell wine and let you take it inside!
Nirvana French Grey. I like it, but applied from a rollerball, it’s long gone. Will have to find something else for the evening. If only it was cool and crisp here, I could start in on my ambers.
Do I need to go try that? (Way overdue for a trip to the mall, trying to decide if there are really any new perfumes I need to smell.)
I think if you happen to be in Sephora, it’s worth a try. I like the lavender in it, and I’m not always a fan of that note. I prefer it over the Amethyst by a little, but disappointed in the rollerball. I do have a sample spray, going to try that to see if spraying helps the longevity (then again, I was hot and sweaty all morning so that surely didn’t help!)
Thanks! Presumably I will be in Sephora again some day.
Daim Blond today from the 100 fragrances list. I really love Serge Lutens perfumes and can usually find one to fit my mood or day. I think I have all your autumn weather down here: the trees say spring but the trees lie. I had to wear my beanie yesterday and the wind was blowing straight up from the Antarctic…brrrr. Lucky it was porridge day.
Ah, you smell great! I need to wear that soon.
I’m sampling Eau des Merveilles today and it is really lovely. I just wish that bright orange opening would last longer on my skin.
Today’s holiday makes me think of a song that was one of my favorites as a teenager: Sufjan Stevens’ Casimir Pulaski Day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EzeW5KoPUI
(warning, may break your heart)
Oh wow, what a beautiful song! (Thanks for the warning, you’re right.)
Have you tried the flankers? I think you get more orange in the flankers (now can’t remember which, maybe Elixir?)
I’ve tested all of them recently and find the original to be the orangiest. Others may have had a different experience.
When I first fried Eau des Merveilles at a Sephora, I sprayed it alongside Elixir. I didn’t much care for Elixir (it had too much of something that put me off…patchouli, maybe?). I didn’t find it to be any more orangey than the original, but maybe that’s just me.
I do want to try the amber flanker next time I’m at Sephora.
Elixir des Merveilles is a big no for me. I love Eau des Merveilles best, though Ambre des Merveilles is good too. I hope you’ll try it and find out you like it. 🙂
Eau des Merveilles + Orange Sanguine is a fun orangey combo. EdM layers well with many citrusy fragrances.
Sampling Tsarina from Ormonde Jayne today which is a lovely spiced amber iris thing
I like this one. You smell nice.
Yuck. Fires. Air is horrible here. I don’t have any work this week, which would usually lead to outdoor chores. Not today. A dark yellowish haze is all over everything and the air smells terrible. Just to be clear, I am 50, well now closer to 40, miles south of the dozens of fires burning north of here.
We have an exchange student arriving on Monday from South Africa, and he has asthma. I’ve emailed his mother about the air quality, but I don’t want to be too alarmist on the good chance that it will improve next week.
So scent of the day is smoke, bad smoke, with a hint of vintage My Sin on my wrists. I inherited this sample from someone and I love it.
Ugh. Hope it will get better anyway, but especially hope your student won’t arrive and have an immediate asthma attack.
Oh, geez. I wonder what you can do to help with his condition when he arrives? A mask would certainly help but I can see why someone may not want to go that route immediately in his circumstances.
It’s even smelling smokey inside my office building now. Yuck
I’m 70 miles away, and it smells really bad here now as well, including inside the office building 🙁
I spoke to someone at work who was 20 miles from the Anaheim fire and she was not worried! We only left 3 messages for her to call back but she did not pay attention to any of the messages until I left a message with her Emergency Contact.
SotD = Hiris
Hiris, on a Wednesday, because “why not?”
It’s a reliable spritz of pretty + interesting.
Fun trivia: if you search for Hiris in the basenotes
fragrance directory, two scents are listed. One is Hiris, the other is a blockbuster perfume that also has a distinctive blue bottle. Any guesses?
Trying not to cheat, and can’t think of it yet.
For this super “star” perfume, the “devil” is in the details.
Angel???
Yes! Angel pops up in a search for Hiris because one of the perfumers is Yves de Chiris.
Aha. Yes. Duh.
Weather here is iffy today, so Cristalle was needed to sharpen it up. Yesterday I posted some appliances on the app Let Go and it was just like the commercial. Less than 10 minutes and my phone was buzzing, by the end of the day, appliances picked up and my garage cleared out. Excellent, now my car fits in!
Oh wow! I did not even know there’s such a service!
Mostly cloudy and still warm but bearable here in the NE, chilling out after work before I head to yoga class. SOTD: Diptyque Eau Plurielle. Interesting tobacco (I think??) note, but I like the one in Un Jardin de Mediterranee better.
Happy Wednesday everyone! *waves*
Hello, all, and a pleasant afternoon to those in nearby time zones. I accidentally woke up 45 min late, which, with traffic, meant I arrived at work an hour later than expected. And of course I’m more exhausted than I usually am, even with those 45 min extra sleep.
I put on some CDG Vettiveru from the swapmeet this morning, and now, 4.5 h later, only the faintest suggestion of it remains. It’s been this way for the past two hours. I should just bring this decant with me when I wear it. It’s so wonderful, but so short-lived. It’s as though someone took Sycomore and skimmed off the top, discarding all the depth. I have some back-up samples with me, but none of them are vetiver-y. Sigh.
And they took the depth they skimmed off and put it in Vetiver Extraordinaire 😉
Did they really?! I think I need to find a sample of Vetiver Extraordinaire asap then 🙂
It’s a great scent. But I like Vettiveru too — they all have their place and Vettiveru is perfect for a hot humid day.
I totally agree! I do not regret having a pile of slightly different vetiver scents. I appreciate them all and want MORE.
I’m in Bel Respiro today. Taking a short trip towards the hill country for a couple of days. Drink a little wine, shop for antiques, sit on the porch and pet the puppies. ????
It sounds wonderful! Enjoy!
Thanks!
You smell lovely!
I forget about this one – glad I found the decant!
Sounds great! ????
We are having a great time!
You smell great, Robin! Obsession is my only Guichard, so I’m saving it until Friday.
I’m in SSS again today, Nostalgie this time.
It does smell great to me too, so long as I keep it at “tiny dab” levels. But definitely I like it more than I used to!
SOTD = SL A la Nuit, from the sample stash. If I can’t beat the summer-y weather, I might as well join it. However, I might get some cooler temps in the next couple of days.
I’ve driven on the Pulaski Highway a few times on area road trips.
A lot less hissing and avoidance from the cats re: Pixel kitty so far today. It probably had a lot to do with smelling like a vet’s office.
Another crisp spring morning here so I’m wearing Olfactive Studio’s Chambre Noire.
SOTD is Aramis “Calligraphy Rose”.
Top: oregano, saffron and honeysuckle;
Mid: rose, myrrh, styrax and lavender;
Base: labdanum, musk, ambergris and olibanum.
I like the rose-saffron (extra marks for no oud), but there’s a hint of soapiness and then it just doesn’t last very long. I wonder if it’s the lavender reading as soap? I had a similar problem with the Majda Bekkali I tried last week, and it also featured lavender. I have some lavender-fronted perfumes that don’t seem soapy, but maybe it just doesn’t work for me as a background note.
I won’t bore y’all with the dreariness of work life right now, but there’s a growing risk that TOMK will divorce me citing Microsoft Excel as the co-respondent. :^D
Ooh, that’d be a tough choice between hubby and Excel…
Didn’t have the same experience with Calligraphy Rose, btw. It’s massive and lasts forever on both me and my excel spreadsheet – I mean husband – and I don’t get any soap. It does go through lots of different stages in development, though.
(a) Hahahaha.
(b) I’m with you, kpaint–no soap, and lasts forever on me 🙂 just piles of rich, sweet, gorgeous rose. A lot like Rose Nacree, actually.
Smackdown Day #1 – Battle of the Cherry Bombs. Brought to you by…The Perfume Angel–an NSTer who is beyond kind and generous!!
On the left arm…it’s sleek, it’s black, it’s the bottle made of your naughtiest dreams…it’s BLAAACCKKKK PERFECTOOOOOO!!!
On the right arm…it’s in your face, it’s tacky-cool, it packs a punch…it’s MANCERA WIIIIIIILD CHERRYYYYYYYY!!!
They both start out with a medicinal cherry kick. Black Perfecto settles down more quickly into a fluffy cloud of cherries, almonds, and musk. I get a wee bit of the suede, but I really don’t consider this a leather scent (for reference, my faves are Cuir de Russie, Cuir de Lancome, and Cuir d’Ange). The Wild Cherry has a more dense and syrupy character and definitely lasts a lot longer. After about 3 hours, the Black Perfecto is more of a fruity musk (I do get the idea of raspberry macaron, as Monsieur Guerlain has described, and I’m also reminded of LL L’eau en Blanc) whereas the Wild Cherry is still all about the cherries and some patch to ground it.
Right now, my opinion is that Wild Cherry is the real Ch-ch-ch-ch-Cherry bomb of the two. I envision Black Perfecto as a pretty girl in a frilly dress and leather moto-jacket, and Wild Cherry as a dominatrix in the perfect red lipstick. Black Perfecto seems more all-situations friendly, and Wild Cherry is more of an “I’m going out tonight and plan to get into some trouble” type scent. I plan to wear the Black Perfecto on its own to get a real “feel” for it, that might change my mind about things. I do have enough Wild Cherry to last 3 lifetimes (4 oz bottle, really!?!) and don’t think I need Black Perfecto, as drop-dead gorgeous as that black bottle may be. While not quite as lust-worthy, the Wild Cherry bottle is also pretty cool with its animal print and screw-top lid.
I love this entire post! Entertaining, hilarious, and informative. Well done! Now I’m off to look at the Mancera line as I’m not familiar with it.
Thank you! Wild Cherry is really the only Mancera I’ve experienced — a successful blind buy! I’m definitely interested in trying more from them, but their bottle sizes, sheesh!
Love the Smackdown review!
Thank you so much! I wanted to continue the boxing/fight metaphor throughout, but as I know zero about such things, it was a bit too exhausting 🙂 There’s another round coming up soon…haven’t decided what to call the Battle just yet, but it will be fun (for me at least! hehe) 😀
Tested 4 frags throughout the day, none of which treated me right. Am now enjoying a big comforting spritz of ELdO Divin’Enfant from a swap and am feeling like Goldilocks. ELdO does comfort scents in a way that really works for me.
SotD is Romanza.
Two small sprays, applied around 11:30, 12 hours later and i can still smell it.
Romanza is a fragrance that I like even more because it goes on and on.
SOTD was Narciso. It is pretty, powdery and only lasted about three hours max. Maybe I just couldn’t smell it? On the up side, I’ve spent the decant. It must have evaporated quite a lot because I hadn’t worn it until today. On to the next.
The Narciso scents seem to disappear on me too. I think the musk numbs my nose for hours.
SOTD = Carner Barcelona D600
Iris, vetiver and nutty, what’s not to love?
Commuting Woes No. 398:
– Two women boarded the train at a stop where there’s a -50% chance of getting a seat (I know that’s impossible – I just want to make the point that even Standing Room only seats are at a premium). Visually, they look older than Yoda. Would you believe that someone had to shame two able-bodied construction workers to give up the seats marked for disbled passengers. Seriously?
– Woman with messy up-do hair extensions so fake they look like curtain tassles: not only did she carry AND use a blankie to lay her head against the side of a pole next to her seat, she also had an attitude bigger than her ego. Check your attitude at the door, ok? And please, you are not 3 years old – for goodness’ sake, leave the blankie home!
All I can say is, so glad I don’t commute ????
You can live vicariously through me 🙂
Just in case you look in here: is 398 a real number (I mean, do you have a rolling sum somewhere), or was it just a figure of speech?
As somebody who spent almost 3 decades of her life knowing only public transportation (and not the German type 😉 ), I sympathize a lot.
Well, I started randomly counting from No. 374 and just a little over 3 months later, I have written 25 of these. Annualizing the 25 gets us 100. I could probably easily come up with 100 per year of working. Since I have been working for quite a while (longer than some commenters have been on this earth), if I were to write a book on just these commuting stories (hello CM8), I will have enough material for a tome!
If you publish it, I’ll buy it 🙂
Inquiring minds want to know….what kind of blankie was it???
Ha…this was my question too. I am intrigued now by the idea of taking a blankie on public transport.
It could be worse — she could have had a therapy dog or cat or whatever is allowed as a therapy animal!
It was one of those cheapie $5 and under Polartec blankets. Hers looked like grey-silver fur.
