Happy Monday! It's also John Lennon's birthday, and Fire Prevention Week. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a little dab of Bond no. 9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory, by Aurélien Guichard. It was a great scent, but my decant is in less than perfect condition, and the fragrance has since been renamed and probably reformulated.
Reminder: on 10/13, wear a fragrance by Aurélien Guichard or Jean Guichard.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Traversee du Bosphore today.
I also haven’t managed to report on my perfume evening last Thursday yet so…
It went really well. It was a small but enthusiastic bunch who really got into smelling everything I offered them. I started off by addressing a few perfume FAQs, then got everyone sniffing! I roughly grouped stuff by prominent note and once finished let everyone loose to resniff, take samples or douse themselves in anything that took their fancy. It was a great evening. I’ve uploaded a few images (and yes, that’s me up front) to my gravatar profile so if you’re interested, just click on my name above!
Sounds like a great evening Bob! I think I’ll plan one of these for the ladies in my family.
Trying out- Atilier Cafe Tuberose. Gourmand- dark chocolate powder& roses and Tuberose to me.
Weird compelling beginning and yummy drydown- almost like Ambre de Mervilles
Still 80s here. Happy almost fall y’all!
You should definitely do it. Once I’d laid everything out on the table it struck me how beautiful it all looked unpackaged! I never really get to see my collection like that.
I just saw your pictures. You are correct — beautiful collection 🙂
Glad to hear everything went fine and that everybody enjoyed and had fun.
Nice pictures, looks like a fun event! Loved the sign that said, “… that’s a lot of perfume, won’t it go off?”
I personally don’t worry about stuff going off. If it does, I toss it and move on. There’s more where that came from. I am making a concerted effort though to wear the rare and discontinued ones, so I have no regrets when/if it turns.
Luckily I haven’t had anything go off yet, and some of them I’ve had for nigh on ten years. But obviously most are in their boxes in their dedicated ‘fumedrobe’!
What fun, thanks for sharing the pictures!
Loved the images, but where is the picture of you second cat? 😀
You know, I had one on my computer at work and now I can’t find it so I’m going to have to take another of ‘Mogzilla’…
LOL – Mogzilla! The grey one is cute. 🙂
Thanks for reporting back, that looks like fun 🙂
That looks like fun! Great pics!
That looks like a lot of fun! I love your tables.
That looks like a lot of fun! I love your tables.
That sounds like fun all around!
It looks like alot of fun. Thank you for sharing!
Sounds like a blast. A very creative and generous way to bring people together ????
“I love it. Is it for a man or a woman?”
Hahahahaha!!!!
How fun! And your gravatar is great.
In Dame Gardenia from the swapmeet (thanks Lovetosmellgood). Very nice soliflore. I see myself wearing it very often in spring-summer time.
I will have a quiet day today at home. I just finished reading all the lazy weekend poll comments and drinking my first cup of coffee. My foot is in pain from all the movement during the weekend, so I will take it easy today to be ready to go back to work tomorrow. Warm, muggy and rainy day here thanks to Nate. I am not complaining about the temperature, but wish the humidity was not so high.
Have a nice Monday everyone!
What’s up with your foot? Gardenia is nice, Dame Honeysuckle is too. Dame is a bit hit or miss with me.
I sprained my ankle and had a minor fracture in my little toe two weeks ago. I fell when I was rushing to get the train to work. Waiting a couple of more weeks to get healed.
I have not tried Honeysuckle yet, but I am pretty sure it is as good as the rest of the soliflores.
I’m sorry, that all sounds really painful. Glad you have a day at home <3
I hope the quiet day helps your foot feel much better. Have a lovely day off!
Thank you sistine.
Hope you can put your feet up and relax today. The weather calls for just that kind of day.
Thank you Elisa P. It is the right weather to stay home and relax.
Makes me smile that you are enjoying the Dame!
Good perfume should not go to waste!
I am in AG Vetiver today and its gorgeous. My first time smelling any Vetiver. I have one from Guerlain that was sent to me from the swap. I should compare.
I am so glad that you are enjoying Vetiver. Please, let me know how it compares to the Guerlain when you try them together.
Hope your foot feels better soon and heals as quickly as possible.
Thank you 🙂
Happy Monday!
I’m kicking off this week by wearing Gabriella Chieffo Quasicielo. The name means ‘almost heaven’ and the perfume itself is an interesting, a little bit weird blend. Despire being strange its hard to stop sniffing. It’s first perfume Gabriella did on her own without Luca Maffei, you can sense it’s not perfect, that it has edges. But that’s what makes it more interesting.
Off to search for a farewell gift for a co-worker from the desk next to mine who decided to change jobs. He’s a tea drinker like me, so it should be easy 😉
I enjoyed your review of Grandiora Queen Of The Nght! A sample is coming my way. Thanks for the recommendation!
Ditto Lucas! Great article, and I am looking forward to receiving a sample in the mail 🙂
Yay for both of you. Did you get your samples via Lucky Scent?
STC – I always opt for spray samples whenever possible.
no, STC as well – they lured me in with their 15% off – saved a whole $5 total , ha 🙂
Great! I hope it was worth the search for all the 3 of you (counting Calypso from comment below too)
Yes me too and I’m wearing it today because of your nice review–I learned from it! I got two sample vials from Luckyscent and am going through them fast!
SOTD is Guerlain Samsara.
I’ve got four scents by Aurélien Guichard (none by Jean), so tomorrow I’ll start the community project.
Yum…too humid and sticky for Samsara here. You smell great!
Samsara for me too, today! You smell great!
you smell like bliss
SOTD is Ormonde Jayne Woman. True love.
Twins. But either my nose has changed or my bottle is off. Haven’t worn this in a couple of years.
Oh no! I do hope it’s just a temporary thing with your nose. My nose went all wonky last night – everything I sniffed for bedtime smelled sharp and unpleasant, but this morning all was back to normal. I think it was the brussels sprouts we had for dinner – strong cooking odors can really mess with one’s sense of smell!
A new favorite here too!
Isn’t it wondrous? 🙂
You smell gorgeous!
Looks like I have a couple of Auréliens: Piguet Casbah and Narciso Rodriguez for her L’Absolu. Jean wasn’t as prolific.
But since it’s Thanksgiving and we’re having apple pie, I am going to wear Ambre Narguilé, which will blend in with the food smells.
Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians!
Jean spent more of his time teaching, I think.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Is it also possible there are some he hasn’t been credited for?
Oh, absolutely! (And especially here since no way are my lists up to date or comprehensive.)
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving! The benefit of being a Canadian married to an American is that I get to celebrate Thanksgiving twice each year. We feasted last night (no day off today).
Ooh, lucky you. I’m American and Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I hope both of your Thanksgivings are happy ones!
Happy TG!
Happy Thanksgiving! Apple pie sounds yummy, I always think of fall as “pie season.”
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving…enjoy consuming the fruits of yesterday’s labors.
Ambre Narguile and apple pie sounds like the perfect combination. Have a great holiday!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I love (loved?) Silver Factory but emptied my decant long ago. Also swapped Anisia Bella and Angel Aqua Chic years back and it’s too muggy for Obsession so I’m wearing Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions for the second day in a row. I’ve been craving it’s leather apple note.
I will definitely be in Anisia Bella this week!
Happy Thanksgiving to all Canadians/tous les Canadiens. I never heard of the Auréliens until last week, but the gorgeous one was certainly prolific! How could I have not known of him? Maybe because I have only two of his creations, which I’ll safer later in the week.
Pouring rain here, but my thoughts are with those in Napa and Sonoma counties under threat of fire.
He does have great hair!
No Guichards in my collection, let’s see what I choose next Friday. SOTD is Dame New Musk Oil, discreet and very nice
Pick your own project 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadian perfumistas! Hot and humid here again today. I am wearing Puredistance M for a second day. It is heavenly.
That’s a yum sotd with lots of presence
I only have a dabber sample. The sillage is amazing on this one. It really bloomed in the warm sticky weather. Yum is right!
Monday. Ugh. Going to pick myself up with something that makes me feel bright and optimistic, though I haven’t yet decided what that’s going to be. I’ve been thinking about relocating my perfume stash to a place that is more convenient and usable (all my bottles are currently stored in a cabinet that is dark and deep, which is good, but makes for difficult retrieval).
Has anybody here used a media cabinet for perfume storage? My thought is that it is shallow, tall, and has lots of shelves, and so could be a good option.
I don’t have a prolific collection, but I keep mine in my dresser (I hang up 90% of my clothes) I tuck the top flaps in, and I like being able to see them and reach for them vertically.
That is actually a great idea! Now that I have massively minimized my wardrobe I do have enough dresser room to do just that.
I do that with my samples, but I want to be able to see the fronts of the bottles, and many of them are just a little too tall to fit in my dresser drawer. I’m envisioning a morning “throwing back” of the cabinet doors, and having almost all of the collection visible, while I contemplate the vision with a nice balance of humble gratitude and wicked glee.
I use a cabinet but want to find a tiered stand. I have one that I use for spices in my kitchen cabinet.
I thought about spice racks, too!
That’s a good idea. Stored in a cabinet, I’m sure I’d spend most of my perfume time righting knocked-over bottles. I keep mine in a drawer.
My husband made a custom built cabinet that is about 12 inches deep. Works great!
Eau de Campagne (thanks to ltsg!)
On this hot and sticky October day I sprayed lavishly and WOW is all I can say……as a pre-teen I wore Cristalle and O de Lancolme …in the 1970s those fragrances were chock full of oakmoss…..eau de Campagne reminds me very much of those two vintage beauties, as it is also a perfume of the 70s with similar notes (including the oakmoss)….I will definitely be spending more time with it in the near future ….
and last night I sampled Byredo Reine de Nuit Extrait….gorgeous stuff…but completely out of my price range…grateful that I got to try it though 🙂
You smell great! when I smelled Eau de Campagne at the Sisley counter I thought “this is the 70’s in a bottle”, which is a good thing to me 🙂
It really is , right? I think that is why I love it so much! It is instant nostalgia! (plus it satisfies my tomato leaf obsession)
and I have a sneaking suspicion that when my mother gets her nose on this one she is going to “beg” me to allow her to “borrow” it….I might just have to decant and split the bottle with her…there is something about it that also brings to mind 4711, eau D”Hadrien and eau de Sud…. (all three were HUGE favorites of hers)
I am so glad you are enjoying yourself! Wearing it more than I ever did!
Cristalle is a favorite of mine, but I like in cooler weather and sprayed on my clothing.
You did an amazing job finding new homes for your unloved/less used bottles 🙂
Cristalle is great in all weather…honestly, when I wore it in the 1970s and 1980s it was usually in the winter.
When I was younger I didn’t think about perfumes (or food) as seasonal. Now I can’t *not* think that way.
Same here……I just had seven bottles in my rotation which I wore year round…now everything is seasonal …although I do like to mix things up a bit from time to time and wear “winter” scents in the summer and vice versa…
I think the food comes from what the stores offer us as “limited edition”….which right now seems to be all about the pumpkin 🙂
You smell fabulous!
🙂
and look at what I just found-
http://www.smallflower.com/berdoues/amande–tonka-1902-eau-de-toilette-3.38floz-fragrance-10079395
I think there are five of them and the are EDTs…this one, the ivy and the rhubarb sound really good…and for 40 dollars, well, that is free!
I have Undina to thank for this as she just posted reviews on the original Grand Cru Collection which made me head to smallflower which made me discover these….
I found four Guichards in my collection, of which I’m willing to wear three, or possibly two. I like Anisia Bella and Gucci Guilty, but I’m not sure of Angel Sunessence or Jean’s LouLou. This week though, I am finishing out my Atelier Discovery Set, and my SOTD is Trefle Pur. Only Vetiver Fatale to go. I am not willing to wear Vanilla Insensee, because vanilla – yuch!
I too am generally a vanilla hater, but I *almost* liked Vanilla Insensee – it had a nice dry quality. The only other vanilla I can stand is Diptyque’s Eau Duelle, for reference.
I think you don’t have to be a vanilla lover to give Vanille Incensee a try. I agree with nicolasix about the dry quality to it. It reminds me of a great cedarwood and vanilla candle I had once. It’s a bit cream soda like to me.
Wearing Angel Muse.
I don’t have any Guichard’s in my collection, but I might swing by Kohls on Friday to get some Obsession on my skin.
I am in the same boat…I drained all of my Guichards bottles many years ago…I can steal some Chinatown from a younger family member”s stash…if she did not take it with her to college…otherwise I will have to skip the community project this week.
Or….you can pop in Bath & Body works and spritz yourself with 1000 wishes 😉
ha! true that! there are actually some B &BW that I really love (like Brown Sugar & Fig)…oh, wait a minute! My college CM8 may have left her 1000 Wishes Body Spray with sparkles in the basement in her pile of fragrance stash…I will have to look later……
yup! she left it in the basement…cotton candy colored diamond shimmer mist in 1000 Wishes…now I just have to decide if I am willing to wear it-LOL!
I love sparkles!!
flopper just talked me into wearing it on friday 🙂
*.*.*Sparkle Friday!*.*.*
✨????✨????
I need to make a trip to BBW
Morning, NST. I’ve been MIA for a few days, just being busy indoors, feeling a bit off colour and generally down pin. I find that small not-quite-sicknesses tend to hang about being tedious and inconvenient, whereas more dramatic illnesses arrive in a rush and depart equally rapidly, probably because I do something sensible like taking a pill and going to bed. Anyway, I drifted through the days doing basic stuff and waiting drearily to feel better, but even writing a few quick lines for NST seemed too much. I have kept wearing perfume, though, so I can’t be too bad. Sleepless again, but that’s habitual, sadly.
The kittens and I are sitting in the pre-dawn shadows, watching the city sleeping. They’re digesting a little treat (I gave them a tin of sardines) and washing one another’s faces with minute attention to detail; I’m drinking tea and wearing a soft cloud of Narciso, which is just right for my current activities. I saw Lucasai’s newly-coined word “cuddlefluff” the other day, and that fits Narciso perfectly. It has no structure, but that’s OK, it doesn’t need to be anything other than itself. It’s just a warm waft of pretty pastels. If smells have colours (and they often do, for me) it’s blush pink, dove grey, with a tiny edge of powder blue and some streaks of winter white. Gorgeous for wrapping up in, like a cashmere and silk scarf. I won’t wear it to work, though. It feels a bit too intimate now I’ve worn it like this.
Titus is washing Eric’s ears now, and every so often having an over-vigorous chew. Eric is quite rightly objecting. I think I’ll leave them to sort out their differences and see if I can find some sleep. Be well, all.
I own the perfume oil of this and I describe it as a floral marshmallow. It’s really cuddle worthy but the vetiver note is all but non existent in the oil. You smell darn good!
I have wondered about the perfume oil of this one and am tempted to blind buy it because I love the perfume so much- marshmallow fluff and wood shavings on me.
I hope your lingering yuck departs. Thank you so much for the kitten updates – I love hearing about their adventures.
Great description of the colors in Narciso! Hope you feel better soon.
Sorry you are feeling ill. The kitties image is lovely.
What a perfect description of Narciso. You smell wonderful!
Feel better soon.
Sorry you have had the blahs. I hope that ends soon. I had to laugh because last night after dinner my four foster kittens had a big washing-up fest and one of them kept fiercely hanging onto her brother’s neck while washing out his ears in a most determined fashion! They’re so entertaining!
I love picturing those kitties from your descriptions. I hope you feel better very soon!
It was raining when I woke up and warm, I chose Apres l’Ondee. Sprayed liberally so it’s still there. Getting tired of this lingering summer-like weather… anxious to wear things that only work when it’s cool!
I don’t love cold weather, but even I’m ready for proper Fall weather. The plants and foliage are turning and starting to die anyway so the mismatch with the weather and the changing light feels all wrong and a tad depressing to me, actually.
I am really really really really super ready for fall weather to finally arrive. We’ve been getting bits of it here and there, but then the heat rises again. 🙁 We had a minor rainstorm last night, though, courtesy of Nate, and it’s cool today.
I totally agree regarding the weather! Found a couple very nice sweaters at a garage sale over the weekend to add to all my other sweaters, sure would like to wear them if it would just cool off.
hi scent twin!
I don’t have any Guichard scents so I’m doing fall favorites again this week. Up today is a new favorite, ELDO’s Divin Infant.
My household was sick last week, plus we had a whole host of minor irritations (random power outages, car problems) and I am looking forward to better luck this week! How about it, universe?
Orange blossomy, vanillary baby powder with a hint of warm skin. Love Divin’ Enfant, you smell great.
My skin really amps up the tobacco note in this one as well!
Very good luck to you!! Universe owes you.
Hope things turn around for your this week!
Trying to pretend that summer isn’t actually over, so today’s scent is Goutal’s Eau D’Hadrien, vintage edp (circa 1997 or so). The vintage edp has aged much better – it’s in pristine condition – than the edt from around the same time. I wonder why that might be.
Citrus essential oils and top notes (which are usually citrus) decompose much quicker with time..this is why vintage Cristalle does not smell nearly as good as pristine Cristalle did when it first came out in the 1970s…wonder if the EDP is younger? or perhaps less of citrus notes?
House twins
Vintage Dune. Saw mention last week, and the orange box caught my attention this morning.
MMMMMM…… 🙂
You smell wonderful!
Dune is so good, and the fact that it can still be found at department stores is a real bonus.
I smelled this on a woman in the supermarket just today and was reminded how good Dune is.
Thank you all!! Oh I’d love to smell it on someone else! Maybe next time my daughter visits I’ll spray her and see how it works on her.
You smell great! Maybe I’ll pull out my orange box this week too 🙂
I finished off my Chinatown sample, which is an Aurelian creation. I have one more of his and one of Jean’s that I’ll wear Thursday and Friday. Boy, Chinatown is the definition of a fruitchouli. This isn’t a office friendly perfume, but we’re having our annual all-staff meeting offsite. In the morning, we’re doing community service and in the afternoon the annual staff awards in a rented movie theater followed by a showing of the new Blade Runner. It should be a fun day!
That sounds really fun and Chinatown is a fun one, so, perfect!
That does sound like a fun day! I promised I’d go see the new Blade Runner with my H and was shocked to learn he’s never seen the original. (???) That’s almost like never having seen the original Star Wars or something, for a guy who’s almost 40, right?
Oh jeez, he has to watch the original! My bf and I went to see the version of it called The Final Cut at Cinerama last weekend. It is supposed to be the most in line with Ridley Scott’s vision of the movie from what I read. It looked great on the big screen.
*an office friendly perfume
It was a fun day! They ended up saying that staying for the movie is optional, so I decided to wait and watch it with my bf on Friday when we both have the day off. I had a pair of jeans to return to Nordstrom Rack nearby before contending with Seattle traffic. I ended up finding a better pair jeans and a clearance pair of Nikes at additional 25% off. I love bargain shopping!
Chinatown has held up well, and I’ve enjoyed wearing it.
31 Rue Cambon
Although I applied it yesterday morning I still can smell it quiet clearly. That’s impressive, Chanel!
My husband went to his hometown for a week, so I’m home alone, can’t be bothered with cooking, so frozen pizza and pelmeni (dumplings with meat) is my routine now 😀
Most of the Exclusifs dissapear rather quick on me. Good yo hear 31 Rue Cambon lasts that long on you.
Enjoy your free cooking days! 🙂
Do you have the edt or the edp of 31RC?
It’s EdP. I never owned EdT so can’t compare.
Mmm… pelmeni.
Twin! You smell fabulous.
SOTD is Cire Trudon Bruma.
I just sent a sample to Kevin, waiting to hear if he likes it.
Rainy, humid, though not terribly warm. Debaser felt right today. Dewy, juicy fig…
I opted to work today and take a cimp day thinking it’d be a light day anyway. Turns out I was wrong ????
Sorry your day turned out to be busy. Hope it slows down later and your commute back home is light.
ugh!
I hope your day passes quickly! ????
I have no candidates for the community project, so I am in my “why is it still in the 80s and humid?” protest perfume – Jasmin et Cigarette. I smell amazing, even though I am grumpy from being sooo very ready for some fall weather to appear.
In the spirit of (Canadian) Thanksgiving, one thing that I am very grateful for is the mood-altering abilities of perfume. It seems miraculous that a spray of beautiful art can make me feel so uplifted. Thanks to all the noses!
Jasmine and Cigarrete is very nice. You smell great!
J&C has been on my buy list for ages. One day…
So Aurelien did all the Piguet reorchestrations? (Well, not Fracas, OBVS, but still. The line is pretty big.) I have samples of several of those; Calypso might be my favorite of the re-dos. My Fracas is a very vintage mini, maybe 1960s?, and although the topnotes are nail-polishy, the rest of it is absolutely narcotic.
Saw my cousin and his wife at the HS football game on Friday, and she smelled so nice I had to ask what she was wearing. It was very much a white floral effect on her, and I was expecting her to say it was ELPC Tuberose Gardenia… but no. DKNY Be Delicious. Which TOTALLY does not smell like that on me, isn’t that interesting?
SOTD is beautiful Le Temps d’une Fete.
Oh, you smell just fabulous. RIP Le Temps d’Une Fete.
It kills me that LTdF is discontinued. Luckily, I have a stash.
They seem to be using him as a house perfumer, almost.
So much for Fire Prevention Week 🙁 Napa’s on fire, and the air is smoky down where I am, some 90 miles away. How scary.
Wearing Penhaligon’s Savoy Steam to think damp thoughts at Napa. It smells wonderfully spicy, though not much like any hammam I’ve seen.
🙁
Very scary!
Yes — I probably should have read the news *before* I posted.
I saw footage of those fires and my jaw dropped. I’ve got family in the area, and there are some NSTers right in the heart of it. CA has had a rough year, weather-wise.
I’m curious about that Penhaligon’s just because I love the concept, name and packaging. Where’d you get a hold of it?
Haha, there’s a Penhaligon’s store right next to the Apple store that’s most convenient for us. My boyfriend went to the latter to return a phone, and I asked him via text to pick me up a Savoy Steam sample 🙂 This makes me smile because I want to know if the SA could tell that he was there with strict instructions from someone else. He’s pretty clueless when it comes to perfumes, and doesn’t like them, so I’m imagining him looking down at his phone with a confused expression on his face.
oh that is hysterical!!! He sounds like Mr. CM8 🙂
Oh, I didn’t realize there were even Penhaligon’s stores in the US. I’d guess most men are treated well in perfume shops – less of the cold-shoulder as they’re assumed to be clueless and more likely to be there to buy. But that is just my theory.
SOTD Cacharel Noa, perfection hidden within a cheap thrill!
It is! You smell great.
TGIM after a long work weekend. I saw talk of No 5 L’ Eau in this weekend’s thread, so I went with that today. I haven’t worn it in awhile and it is lovely.
My daughter is having her senior pictures taken this evening???? and I could not have ordered better weather! The sky and sun are gorgeous today!
Enjoy today! You smell lovely.
You smell wonderful.
I have been busy since Thursday and this is the first time I’ve been able to just sit down and think. Saturday night, I went out for ice cream and then took a look at Bath and Body Works near my house. BB&W has really changed in the past 5 years. They have gotten a little too seasonal with their products and discontinue things way too quickly. My SOTD is vintage Jicky EDT.
They have really changed — they seem to keep switching strategies. I think The Body Shop and L’Occitane are also struggling to find a place given that malls are not what they once were.
Fire Prevention Week, huh. The smoke from Napa arrived at our house around 4:30 this morning. Our friends who live up there were evacuated at 1am. Scary.
No scent yet, but intending to be brave this week and try samples that I’ve been looking at sideways for a while.
I woke up at 3 AM certain that a neighbor’s house must be on fire. I went outside and did a perimeter check and went up and down the street, but could see nothing out of the ordinary except for the very strong scent of burning wood, tar, and plastic. We are 50 miles south of the fires, so the wind must have been very strong.
Laurie Erickson’s Sonoma Scent Studio is in Healdsburg, which I believe is out of the range of the fires right now–but everyone is paying close attention to shifts in wind.
I went through that in 1999 here in Florida, Oakland Fresca. Woke up in the middle of the night convinced the neighborhood was burning. It wasn’t, but the smoke from fires 20 miles north was so intense that it seemed like it. We kept our car packed and ready to go for a week. 🙁
Hoping these fires can be controlled quickly, and saying a prayer for the firefighters who work on them. If anyone hears from Laurie Erickson, I hope they’ll let us know. She’s one of the first people I thought of when I heard about these fires.
OMG, I hope her studio is safe. I was thinking about all of the vineyards that are being destroyed – and the huge price increases we’ll be seeing soon. I hope they’re able to get the fires under control. It’s terrifying – and in an area just full of national treasures.
Very best wishes to both of you — stay safe! It must be hard if you have any existing lung issues.
It can have an impact on heart issues, too.
We could smell the smoke from the fire and we’re all the way down in Pacifica CA. It didn’t lighten up until 1 today.
I hope Laurie’s studio is ok, there’s also an African wildlife refuge called Safari West in the area. Hoping all are going to be ok.
Sampling Honour Woman today…maybe the 2nd Amouage I’ve tried.
Nice white floral but none too exciting.
I have to bust out my sample to give it a wear–particularly since it occurs to me now that I may have only actually sniffed it on a card so far…
This week I am sampling everything from the swap.
SOTD AG Vetiver
This is my first time trying any Vetiver fragrance, and its going to take some time to get use to!
Lazy day today with the family, just woke up from a nap. Boiling some beets and making Moroccan Tagine with chickpeas.
Also sipping on some Inka with a little soy milk
My recollection of AG Vetiver is that it’s a pretty different take on vetiver than the usual fare (salty and seaweedy is what I remember,) so keep trying others.
Your meal sounds delicious! Beets are my favorite vegetable. Never tried boiling them.
I am wearing DSH l’Opera des Rouges today and drinking a cup of Twinings Buttermint tea.
Love your perfume and love your tea (we are addicted to it in my house!)
Thanks for the reminder of L’Opera des Rouges. I really like that one.
Working the evening shift today. Gonna stink up the joint in Santal 33.
ha! good for you 🙂
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
8 glorious spritzes. My first bottle will be a empty at some piunt this year. I had already unwrapped my 2nd bottle to make decants because I want to wear the kast drop of my first bottle.
I am wearing No.19 for spine strengthening. It’s all good. I have a meeting later with someone who’s gettung promoted into a position repirting directly to the CEO so it’s huge (or “YUGE” if I bring out my Jersey accent).
Wish me luck!
Good luck! I also wear Chanel No 19 for those reasons. It makes me feel strong and confident.
Good luck. You’re bound to make a good impression
Good luck and you smell divine !!!
Good luck! You smell wonderful!
Good luck, but you have No 19 on so you’ll be a~OK!!????????????????
Best of luck, which I’m sure you don’t need, given all your mad skillz ????
Good luck!!????????
Good luck. I am sure you will do great!
Me and my fat fingers but y’all got my point. Thanks for the good luck. It went well but of course there is more work to do!
Yay!
I was reading Robin’s 100 Fragrances Every Perfumista Should Try last night so will try and do a week from that list starting with Amouage 25 from a sample given to me by Waterdragon.
Jubiliation 25 is from the list of 25 More Fragrances Every Perfumista should try. I thought I’d try and be alphabetical.
I think 90 % of my current fragrances are from that list. I’m very conservative.
You know, I was just thinking that you couldn’t even write that list now! There are too many niche brands now, the choices would end up being almost random.
Hi all,
Today’s SOTD is Cucumber Baie by Fresh, with notes of greens, cucumber, amber and citruses – one of my favorites from this line.
Not sure if I have anything by Aurélien Guichard, I’ll have to look around my perfume cabinet.
Fresh seems to have nearly given up on the “fine fragrance” market, don’t they?
It does seem so, doesn’t it? Fresh seems to be concentrating on cosmetics and skin care – which is too bad, I enjoyed several perfumes from their line.
Gosh, I love Cucumber Baie. It’s nice to see it get a mention.
This was a sleeper perfume on me, I kept on coming back to it and eventually purchased a bottle after burning through several decants.
We are so sick of HOT weather here in Houston, forecast to be up to 93 today! I am tired of my lightweight clothes and want to get into a cute sweater for a change. Oh well.
For Friday I will try–I have both Silver Factory and Chinatown from quite long back–but both bottles have become impossible to spray from. Those are the only two Bonds I own–I wonder if any other people have had this problem? I’m going to try banging them around and running hot water on them to see if anything will work.
Amen to that.
Another Houstonian here that is sick of the heat!!
Soaking the sprayers in some rubbing alcohol can help, too. And hot soapy water.
Thanks!
Woke up today to a burnt smell – the fire from Napa.
SOTD – SHL 777 Generation Woman. A boozy almond.
Ooh, boozy almond. I’m going to pretend I never read this (that line is way too expensive!)
Happy Monday and Happy Columbus Day to all that celebrate. I am one of the school districts in my area who got this particular holiday off this year, so I am grateful to have the day off. My SOTD is Lady Vengeance by JHAG. This is my pre-shower scent. It is light enough to wear to the gym, so I puy it on. I am also off shopping today to find a formal champagne dress that I have to wear to a breast cancer gala in honor of pne of my friends. Having a hard time finding something. Shopping is supposed to be fun.????
Have a great day everyone.
Edit: put not puy
Edit: one not pne
(Having problems spelling today????)
Enjoy your day! My high school aged daughter half-heartedly tried to convince me today was a school holiday. Nope, not for us.
I am wearing Pulp on this gorgeous fall morning. I have to get the leaves out of the gutters for the first time this season and I’ll have to clean them at least twice more before my huge maple tree is bare.
The Portland Sniffa was SO much fun! I met so many lovely people. At the swap after dinner, honestly there were more bottles than I’d ever seen outside of a shop. I won an Olympic Orchids and an Ineke sample set, so I’ll be testing those over the coming weeks.
Oh, that sounds like a blast! Lucky you for experiencing a “real” fall day????????
SOTD is Parfumerie Generale’s Indochine. Yum, yum.
Yum indeed!
Ditto that! I am waiting for cooler weather to break mine out.
SotD = Apres l’Ondee
Thanks to MMKinPA for reminding me I need to wear this one more often. It’s perfect on a quiet morning.
I just got my bottle at the Toronto Guerlain boutique this summer. Been waiting forever and using a few tiny samples in the meantime. So happy to be able to spray madly!
Looks like I have one Guichard so I’ll save it for Friday. I’m not usually one to have a “case of the Mondays” but I wanted something familiar and comforting today. I went with Kiste.
I’m posting a bit on the late side, but if any of you lipstick lovers see this, I have a Sephora gift card burning a hole in my pocket and am thinking about splurging on a lippie – maybe a Tom Ford or Pat McGrath. Are they worth it??
I like the Tom Ford lipglosses, and the combo lipstick/lip pencil is nice. I’ve not tried the Pat McGrath. Happy shopping!!
Thank you!
I’ve not tried those brands, but I think the Dior lipsticks are wonderful, and a better price. Wait for the VIB sale coming next month sometime. Maybe they will have a gift set.
I haven’t tried any lipsticks by Dior yet — I will check them out! And thank you for the reminder about the VIB sale…hmmm, do I have the patience? I must!
Not a lippie but maybe one of those Jo Malone (or was it Joe Loves) perfume brushes – for science!
You are a mind reader!! I totally looked at that truffle one!! If I wait for the sale, perhaps I can justify it – for science! ????
Been a busy day off which I started in Rose Jam from the recent swap and just reapplied for some time of reading and then perhaps a nap.
Not sure if I like this as a perfume. I adore the shower wash but it’s quite potent in perfume form.
Have you checked out the body spray in those sprayergun bottles yet?Really potent and a dead ringer for the showergel!
Nope! Haven’t heard of this option. TY!
I’m pretty sure I have a few Guichard perfumes, I will check tomorrow on my day off. Today I was really craving TM Over the Musk. I love so many from this line, and am trying to get a sample of Wonder Bouquet, but this one remains my favorite. They make a body cream now. Sigh…
SOTD is Tauer Amber Flush body oil, a tiny spritz of which was used to attempt to de-frizz my hair. Not very successful, but no matter, I keep getting whiffs of coziness.
Freebie Friends, I went to mail packages today, forgetting the post office is closed. Unable to self mail because the dang box was full and no room for additional packages-Grrr! Will get them out tomorrow, for sure!
The weekend drama continued! I actually had to ask the supervisor and my agency to intervene in a very ugly situation, which has now been resolved to my satisfaction. So, while there are many pros to working as I do, there are also a few big cons. The biggest pro is that I am now officially done at that location, and will happily start my journey Westward, HO! ????
My H was trying to convince me today’s no longer a holiday. But you’re right – no mail! Clearly a holiday! (It’s always just been a bank holiday around here, though.)
For average joes, it’s just another Monday. Only “government” peeps get any benefit. ????
No mail?! (Trudges to mailbox to get letters for pick up.)
How is Amber Flush? I may gift myself a bottle for my birthday next month. I’m just a little afraid that if it’s too much like Amber Flash (with an A), I’ll find it too boozy. Twice I wore Amber Flash around my bf and both times he asked me what smelled like beer. He was not wrong.
I find it pretty hefty in that it’s quite pronounced and has great throw, even using just a bit. I don’t think the oil is boozy at all- more warm and fuzzy, but I have never smelled Amber Flash. If used as intended (as a body oil) it leaves a great sheen to the skin but isn’t greasy. I’m halfway through my second bottle.????
Well as usual everyone smells WONDERFUL today!!It’s fun to know what you guys smell like!Lol!
SOTD CK ALL.Still very shortlived but I love the initial blast when sprayed.I will finish my 100ml bottle pretty soon.
Happy Week to everyone!
X
Wearing Mitsouko edt today. We picked the last of the apples off of the tree today in my in-laws back yard so are set for awhile with fresh Mac apples!
I’m giving some Shalimar body butter to a co-worker who’s a big fan of the fragrance. I was able to apply the leftovers from the utensils I used so it’s quite a nice combo.
Shalimar body butter? That sounds divine.
You smell great!
Testing Chanel Gabrielle again. I sprayed some on my inside wrists and an hour or two in, got this gorgeous rose coming from it, which I’d missed last time I tried it. I sprayed the rest on the tops of my wrists. I wouldn’t mind having a bit of this around, actually. Bummer that they’re not doing a 30 ml bottle.
My initial response to this was that it does not smell like something designed for the youth market. That impression remains. But kudos to the kids if they want to wear it, I guess?
I’ve only used a magazine sample so far, and it went a bit odd after a while, so I will have to give Gabrielle a real chance by spraying…
Wearing Tabac Grande from Dultan Pasha Attars today. I’m thankful for the glorious weather we’ve had this fall and bracing for the inevitable rains that are scheduled to come soon. Enjoyed another terrific bike ride today and as I got warmer the attar bloomed. Gorgeous stuff!
*Sultan not Dultan.
From Fragrancenet; it’s a body cream in a lovely glass jar. Not to enable though 😉
Oops, this should be in reply to kpaint above re: Shalimar.
SOTD has been Clive Christian “C for Men”.
Top: mandarin, saffron, thyme and elemi;
Mid: jasmins, rose, orris, lotus, mate and labdanum;
Base: amber, tonka, oud, cedar, guaiac wood, leather, oakmoss, musk, tobacco, olibanum, styrax and vanilla.
Good stuff, but way too expensive to ever do more than dabble with a decant like I’m doing today.
Tried Diptyque “Volutes” at the weekend.
Top: iris flower, honey, tobacco and dried fruits;
Mid: pink pepper, black pepper, saffron, hay and immortelle;
Base: opoponax, myrhh, styrax and benzoin.
On my skin it didn’t smell of any of that, more like a dull vetiver, and I didn’t care for it. If anyone in the UK wants the remaining 2ml of a 4ml decant let me know at gbeggan atte yahoo dotte com.
Switched to Nobile 1942 “Rudis” – now that was more like it. But although we’re firmly into Autumn – no Indian Summer here – it will be even better in a month’s time. Sunday was Arquiste “Nanban”, one of my great favourites and again just about cool enough for it.
Question for Chanel No 5 experts. I found a bottle of the parfum, looks to be 1950s. The box is all black. Does anyone know the significance of the box? Limited edition? (Did they have LEs in the ‘50s?) thank you for any info!!
I found this: https://chanelperfumebottles.blogspot.com.au/p/how-to-dating-chanel-bottles.html?m=1
But it only talks about black striped boxes. The blog owner seems pretty knowledgable though from the coments. Perhaps they can help.
Oooo thank you Lillibet!!
Crisp Tuesday morning here with the the promise of a little rain this evening. Full day of meetings followed by French class. SOTD: Bel Respiro EdP
Oooh….someone is wearing a gorgeous jasmine frag on the bus…reminds me of Parfum de Thérèse. Best commute ever!
And I would be so happy to smell Bel Respiro on a bus!
🙂
SOTD is 31RC.
I hope everyone’s week is off to a decent start…
Hope your week has started off well, too! Will you wear No22 tonight???
Ha, funny you should ask! I’m still debating, since it apparently didn’t work the last two games. I went with the 31RC precisely because I thought I should try to change up the luck. But then again, maybe the N°22 was good luck for *home* games, like tonight?!? Baseball superstitions: they’re only crazy if they don’t work. ????
Ha! That is so true about the superstitions!! ???? Good news is that either way, you will smell awesome!
Little late to the party today. Spent part of my day shopping for a new monitor for my work computer because the old one was starting to fritz out on me.
I’m wearing spicy goodness in the form of SL Vitriol d’Oeillet.
Posting super late today due to Pixel kitty having a vet appt this afternoon to get her stitches out. So far, looking OK, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
She had a bit of a mishap Last Friday afternoon that resulted in the cloth e-collar being quickly cut off with a pair of scissors. So she went back to the Emergency vet to be fitted with a plastic e-collar that was much smaller. Pixel kitty was also medically boarded there over the weekend.
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 Poudre, from the sample stash. The perfect scent for a wet and muggy day.
You smell lovely! Also sending hugs to both you and Pixel kitty for a smooth recovery.
Hope this collar works better for pixel kitty! I really need to sample No 19 poudre…
