It's Tuesday. RIP Tom Petty. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm trying Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate over Aftelier Ancient Resins Body Oil — nice, and hat tip to Elisa P for the layering idea.
Reminder: on 10/6, wear a fragrance with lily, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Versace La Medusa teapot by Rosenthal is $685 at Amara.
Wearing Hepcat to honor Tom Petty…RIP to one of the most prolific and talented songwriters/rock musicians of our time…his music is still relevant after over 40 years in the field…I am sad that I never actually got to see him perform live…my co-worker saw him at Mountain Jam recently and said he was an incredible performer….she is more than half my age, which speaks to how his music transcends time and age….a man from humble Southern beginnings…who embodied the American dream…..
The ending guitar riff on “American Girl” is extraordinary-

The sitar in “Don’t Come Around Here No More” is sublime (and for those of you who were around at the onset of MTV as I was will appreciate this)-

very inspirational-

beautiful tribute
🙂
Thank you! Really beautiful!
enjoy the songs
He just seemed like a wonderful person to be around. (Not that I ever had the chance!) I loved him with the Travelling Wilburys.
Me too Sistine. The Traveling Wilburys were great.
Me three.
Big names-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveling_Wilburys
and quite a few are no longer with us 🙁
We were watching Tom Petty videos with our girls last night and my youngest thought “Don’t come around here no more” was really weird, lol. It just makes me miss MTV from the late eighties. *sigh* I also read that he ended every concert with American Girl. So many great hits.
I remember MTV when it first came out in the early 80s…I used to stay up all night watching it! The number of hits from Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers is astounding.
and I will tell you a little secret…I was actually a dancer in a video made for MTV by a small rock band from Maryland…part of the reason I stayed up so late was to catch a glimpse of it as it was only put on air during the wee hours of the morning 🙂
Ok so my curiosity got the better of me and I had to google…amazing what you can find on the internet these days-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOs8mm9m4ps
I am the blonde in the turquoise spagetti strap leotard with black tights and a red band belt…that’s the portion of my face in the end following the lead singer…
and the gorgeous leading gal was my best friend at the time….
and this one which was filmed in one night in the Village…we did not wrap up until 6am and it was freezing!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQMwY66HdLk
This is so cool! I still see the Cool Kids video on VH1 Classics sometimes.
That’s awesome!!!
Fun!!!
That is so awesome!! The wonders of YouTube and what a person can find there!
How cool is that!!! I miss the ‘80s.
Wow! That’s so excellent. Thanks for the links!
What fun! I was beyond the MTV age, but my son loved ’80s music, especially the hair-swinging groups, grew is hair very long, etc. thanks for a link to the past.
What fun! Thanks for sharing the links; wow, you were a wonderful dancer, cm8! Do you still dance?
thx for the links, cm8. good memories. a dear friend from my high school days was and is a devoted fan of tom petty & the heartbreakers. the music transcends time and space.
yes, I would agree ..the music really does transcend time and space.
I was in CVS two weeks ago, and bought a tube of Tom Tomato based on your recommendation 🙂
Color is so pretty, but you’re right — its very drying. I’ll try using lip balm.
I am sorry, this was meant for Lovestosmellgood.
LOL! I figured as much as I am the last person to wear lipstick 🙂
I love the videos you posted.
MTV was such a big thing for my generation…and it was addictive too!
Me too! I remember waiting for Michael Jackson’s Thriller video to premiere.
Also, my friends and I would wait and hope for Journey videos to come on
MTV used to be such a good thing to watch.
MTV in its infancy was such a unique venue…now videos are so ubiquitous that no one gives them much thought. And yes, Michael Jackson’s Thriller video was stupendous! Like a mini movie, right?
Used up my sample of Malle’s Lys Mediterranee. It smells more like a water lily than a lily to me, with a distinct marine accord. I tend to dislike floral aquatics, but this one is elegant and very well made, so while I do not love it, I find it wearable and pleasant.
By the afternoon I could still smell it on my wrists, but I wanted more perfume, so I chose Lush Death & Decay as my afternoon lily. The name is quite appropriate: it’s a pale, waxy, powdery and withering lily. Despite its funeral style, it’s quite pretty and elegant. I think it would suit Morticia Addams.
I’m not big on marine accords, either, but I too think Lys Med is really pretty.
I think Death & Decay is a great Lily-one of the few I can wear. I like Lys Med but couldn’t wear it. It overwhelmed me after an hour and lasted forever on my skin. I left the sprayed card in my bag and it scented my bag nicely for about a week.
*love* Death & Decay. It’s one of the few lillies that seems to have some oomph to it.
It’s been really cold for a long time and central heating is still not on.
I’m in a sweater, wearing wool socks my mom knit for me, an angora shawl and two sheep wool blankets.
Could not resist the urge to order some soaps and a candle from Nesti Dante yesterday just to feel cozy at last.
They are not very expensive but somehow provide a feeling of luxury.
The candle is Lavender & Verbena
and soaps are Cypress, Iris,
Imozioni in Toscana – Campagna Dorata, a very well reviewed here Borghi e Monasteri,
but the most interesting soap for me to try is from their Chic Animalier series.
It’s called “Bronze Leopard” (I am addicted to anything panther or leopard, apparently).
And it should have a slightly animalic smell of a sensual and provocative leopard 🙂
(Myrrh and Ginger Tea blended with aromatic Patchouli)
I also want to try everything from Zoologist by the end of the year but especially Civet.
Other than my own cat,
which one of them smells like animal fur with traces of VdN on it the most? =)
Civet is remarkable. It smells vintage – classy with a growl.
I like several Zoologist fragrances but to me Civet is the very best.
Which ones are the most interesting to you? In what order do you think I should try them given that I love old school chypres and orientals?
They have a sample set that lets you try everything for like $45!
Ooh lily, Donna Karen Gold springs to mind, like Glennys my 3ml of Lys Mediterranee is long gone..
I’m wearing Anubis for the second time today, and enjoying it immensely.
I wore DK Gold yesterday and met a friend for coffee at an outdoor spot. Even outside she said, “Oh, what’s that scent you’re wearing? It’s gorgeous!” And it was still with me at bedtime. A big, in every sense, favorite.
In Bottega Veneta Eau Legere. I like it more than the original which was a little harsh on me.
Really busy since I came back to work yesterday. Lots of things were waiting for me to get done. Coffee, coffee and more coffee.
Robin , you smell great! I already tried that combo of Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate over Aftelier Ancient Resins Body Oil and is really good. Thanks Elisa P. I have also tried it with Kyoto and it is also so relaxing and comfy. I am pretty sure the Ancient Resins works out nicely together with most incense perfumes
You smell great today! I eyed my bottle of BV this morning.
Yes, pretty sure Ancient Resins would smell great with most incense. Next up I’ll try with Incense Flash which is very dry to me and could use a bit of sweet.
Is Incense Flash very sweet like many of the Tauers? I have been tempted to get a fb since you know how crazy I am about incense.
Not sweet at all. I think I would prefer it to be a little sweet. To me it smells more of wood-almost like a wine oak barrel- and frankincense.
That sounds great! Thank you. 🙂
It works with rose too — most things, maybe.
Interesting! I will give it a try with some rose perfumes also. Thank you!
Oof…all this talk is making me want to buy a bottle of Ancient Resins. I, uh, I’d be supporting a local business, yes? It’s almost like giving to charity.
Well, I am not enabling anything, but… yes, you would be supporting a local business and happy with all the layering and no layering from Ancient Resins 😉
I’m pretty sure it’s tax deductible.
Hahaha you two are doing a good job breaking down my resolve. I mean…technically body oils don’t count as perfume purchases, so I wouldn’t be violating my no-buy. And I just looked it up and it’s only $40. That’s free, right? (The only thing currently standing in my way is that I have yet to smell an Aftelier I like. But Ancient Resins gets such unconditional love!)
Exactly! and you would not have to confess it to Donatella!
It’s not a very challenging smell and I don’t think it really subs out for perfume since it’s not super strong or long lasting. If you like SSS Incense Pure, Amber Incense (closer in smell), Forest Walk etc., you’ll like it.
PL67, I have your freebie ready to mail but don’t have a mailing address…? Please email it to me and I’ll get it sent! I am taiga101 in land of yahooligans????
Just emailed it to you. Thanks! 🙂
SOTM for dog park duty was CSP Amour de Cacao. Post shower, PHI.
48 years ago today Skip James went space trucking. Hope he bumps into Tom Petty and they jam out.

PdN Vanille Tonka
Chai tea with soy milk
Wearing a beautiful jade necklace and tigers eye ring today
Lipstick queen red lippy
Man, I used to LOVE Vanille Tonka, mostly because of that ridiculously cheerful lime up top. And then PdN reformulated it a few years ago. It’s still good, but it’s just Not The Same and I find myself ignoring my bottle.
I have no idea about the bottle this is from. Its was sent to me in a swap in a small decant. I really love it, but now that I know its been reformulated I won’t fall in love <3
Vanilla can be hit or miss, this one and Vanille Equise by AG don't have a huge dollop of sugar I find. Perfect to wear in the fall temperatures and very cozy!
Hi Loves! The batch code is 31HX, from the bottom of my bottle. I tried checkcosmetic dot net, but it doesn’t carry PdN in the database. Maybe someone else has another place to check?
I can’t pinpoint when I bought the bottle, as I was merely standing on the edge, peering down into the rabbit hole. Maybe early 2010’s. Hope this helps! ????
I’m wearing 31 Rue Cambon, and wondering what I will do when my Exclusifs decants run out! I’m low on Bois des Iles, Sycomore, and Rue Cambon… a bottle of Bois des Iles might be in my future!
any of those would be lovely!
I’m hoping somebody will do a split of Bois des Iles.
Would love that! But shipping to Europe!
If someone does, I will take a very large decant.
If it makes you feel better, I think both STC and TPC are back to decanting Chanel again. Not sure if either has 31RC.
The one I’m dreaming of is a 75 ml bottle of Chanel Boy 😀
Oooh…delicious 🙂
No time to post lately, so to quickly sum up: yesterday’s SOTD was 24, Faubourg (delicious, and extra flowery for some reason); bedtime last night was Cuir Mauresque layered with Rose Anonyme (really nice combination); and today nothing would do but Chanel 19 EDP. Off I go!
You smell wonderful!
24 Faubourg does seem to have its more and less floral days, doesn’t it? (And both are wonderful!)
24 Faubourg is one of my favorites Hermes for fall. You smell amazing!
You smell great Robin! I wore that combo last night. I think Ouarzazate may be the first bottle I actually drain in forever.
House twins in CdG Holygrapie from a lovely swap partner. Smells like someone sprayed something like Shaal Nur on a doll. It’s kind of vegetal, herbal green up top-probably the rhubarb-that settles into a creamy, sweet, nuttiness which does have a bit of a doll’s head smell to it. Fun and pleasant without being too weird. Glad to have tried it.
RIP Tom Petty ???? I liked his music but never got to see him live. I have a Traveling Wilburys somewhere in my apt. I’ll hunt it down later. What a group of greats that was!
“Shaal Nur on a doll” made me laugh!
I really like that teapot Robin, and I’m a coffee drinker.
I liked Ancient Resins, but it wore me, so I ended up gifting it to a friend.
I pulled the AC, and had my 1st wood fire of the season last night, so I am bowing to the end of summer, and went with the spicy Calligraphy Rose.
Godspeed Mr. Petty.
I love Calligraphy Rose! such a nice one, and it can be had for such a good price.
This is the Medusa coffee pot:
http://www.versace.com/us/en-us/home-collection/dining/coffee-tea/medusa-coffee-pot-n1930/N14030-N409605_N1930.html
I like the simpler teapot, but the coffee pot is more Versace.
An $800.00 US coffee pot!!! 😀 😀 😀
Donatella is not interested in cheap. That’s one of the reasons I never have her to tea.
The teapot looks poorly functioning (handle would get too hot and is the wrong shape; hard to pour when full.) But at that price, I don’t suppose people are buying them to drink tea from.
First thing I thought of when I saw it was that handle is going to last a year or two, max. But I think you’re right, nobody is going to buy it and use it frequently.
More love here for Calligraphy Rose! Have any of you tried Adam Levine for Women? It’s another warm spicy scent that works well in the fall and smells more expensive than it is (created by Yann Vasnier). Widely available these days for $13 or less at places like T..J. Maxx.
wearing TF Velvet Orchid. It’s funny, I think all the talk about TF got me to order this – advertising works! wish I had read more reviews before ordering my large sample – it’s so hard to be objective testing a fragrance when there are poor reviews from people you respect (Elisa 🙂 BUT, Angela’s idea that the Falcon Crest characters would wear VO could save this for me.
So it’s not a scrubber, and I can’t believe there is no patchouli in here…it reminds me of the caramel-ly patchouli I smell in Juicy Couture and Elixir de Merveilles.
Also wearing Revlon “Tom Tomato” liquid lip stick (thanks to lovestosmellgood!) Love it. And I love the application – the liquid format makes the color more manageable – less cake-y than lipstick – and the stick helps to outline the lips without lip liner. I think I’ll go back for a neutral color too.
All of the TF Orchid’s work best for me in colder weather, and in small doses. The VO Luminaire is easier to wear than the original.
I will put some Tom Tomato on later today, I find that I have to apply a little lip balm before hand or else my lips get dry. The color lasts and lasts. Let me know what other color you get so I can check it out too!
Someone on here recommended lipstick queen and I adore my red tint lippy from there, it doesn’t last, well..if you sip tea yes..but eat lunch no..but I love the color and the texture.
TF has never worked for me. The one I loved got discontinued so I just gave up on him. Shanghai Lilly is nice and still in production.
I was in CVS two weeks ago, and bought a tube of Tom Tomato based on your recommendation 🙂
Color is so pretty, but you’re right — its very drying. I’ll try using lip balm.
will do! it is drying, but I suppose that is how it stays on so well – I did put some burts bees lip balm on afterward and that helped.
TF is not a house I get along with either, so I avoided for a while. I did smell a couple of the new Verts, though, and they’re nice and less TF in-your-face than some others.
After my No. 19 wore off yesterday, post-dentist (looks like he will be able to salvage this cracked tooth with a crown, whew), I re-tried Chergui from a more recent sample than my 2011 one. I liked it better; whatever was in the older version of it that smelled like old people’s houses* seems to be gone now. I’d heard it was reformulated and thought I’d give it another shot… and it doesn’t bother me now, but I think it’s less interesting too.
* When I was a kid, my grandmother used to drag me around with her to visit all her friends, and while they talked, I would eat hard candies out of the candy dish and look at the painted plaster cornucopiae and Last Suppers and Jesuses on the walls. Miss Josie, Miss Pearl, Miss Janet, Miss Willie Maude — all their houses smelled sort of musty and sweet, with undertones of mildewed cellar.
OH! and the SOTD today is Divine L’inspiratrice, from a sample: rosy patchy vanilla, unpowdery and nice though I’m not all that inspired.
I know that smell exactly! My grandpatents house smelled like that but with a hint of yellow Listerine emanating from the bathroom, and a few moth balls wafting out from a closet. And eating from the candy dish while looking at the ornate but kitchy clock that made a rhythmic scratchy noise. Thanks for the memory jog!
Yes, Listerine and Jergens hand lotion in the bathroom! Scratchy crocheted afghans (Miss Janet). The Kit Kat clock (Miss Pearl). Praying hands sculpture (Miss Josie).
this made me smile. If you were a perfumer, you could bottle Miss Willie Maude – I would buy it 🙂
She was a pistol.
I’m familiar with that smell. I associate it with the words icebox and davenport.
And now I hear my grandma saying, “be sure to put on your galoshes!” 😉
Lol! Yes!
LOLOL 😀
You must be a southern girl. I only know of Miss Willie Maudes occuring in the south.
Absolutely! Those double-barrelled names are classic. Miss Willie Maude always called my grandmother, Sarah Lou, her “mud pie pal.”
Both my niece and my daughter go by both first and middle names as well.
I moved into my grandparents’ house once it had been permanently abandoned and the overwhelming smell was really hard to get rid of. I worked for months and months to empty the place (closets full of unused wrapping paper, empty photo film boxes, exterior envelopes from bills received – fire hazard much?; basement filled with expired canned food; furniture purchased no later than 1970 – all of it; drapes and carpet installed at purchase in 1964; etc.)
The smell was so pervasive, and a bit creepy, truth be told. It wasn’t until everything was out and I could clean head to toe that it finally receded.
You will find that it will creep back in on very humid days. . .
Another TDC gem; Divine Bergamote, it always works with its gentle unobtrusive presence.
I think Petty was part of the Travelling Wilburys at some point, I vaguely remember liking their music, but it feels like that happened ages ago.
Commando so far. Turns out my spider bites were actually shingles, and I haven’t decided what goes with shingles. I might put on Rose Volupte, as it’s been some time since I wore it and it smells so lush and luxurious.
Oh dear! I hope you recover quickly.
I hope it’s not to bad. What is the treatment for shingles?
Oh dear. Hope they’ve got you on antiviral and it helps quickly.
Oh, no! Hope it clears up quickly!
Oh, so sorry — I have a feeling that what goes with shingles in my house is a stiff shot of whiskey, but I’m sure you’ll come up with something better 🙂
Sorry. I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you for your concern, everyone – it’s much appreciated! The treatment for shingles is antivirals + whatever works for you to relieve symptoms (antihistamines and OTC painkillers). And, as Robin noted, whiskey – though, I had a Manhattan, not a shot.
So I’m all set. Just feeling grumpy and gross and annoyed that the people who thought I should see a doctor were right.
Oh no!!! 🙁 I hope the treatment works quickly! (The people who tell you to go see a doctor are almost ALWAYS right. I have learned this the hard way, and will likely keep relearning it the hard way for the rest of my life.)
That’s awful. I hope that the treatment relieves the symptoms soon.
Oh ICK on the shingles. I agree with Robin on the therapeutic use of whiskey, as needed.
I’m wearing another Atelier Discovery set sample, this time Oolang Infini, which I’ve finished. That is the second or third sample from the discovery set that I’ve used up. I have a hard time finishing samples, so I am happy.
I like that one a lot. It’s the only Atelier that has excited me so far.
Wearing Eau de Merveille for the first time ever and I’m sad to say it’s not winning me over. Guess I’m not a fan of aquatics, which… duh. I should have known that. I’m an earthy Taurean and a cat person. We don’t do water. Once this quiets down I’ll try layering something from my work stash.
Wait, I’m a Taurus and a car person and I love EDM! Am I not following my stars correctly?
Doh. Cat person. I am the opposite of a car person!
Well, go figure. Maybe it’s just me then!
Maybe you’re a tiger? Tigers like water. 🙂
Fragrance will be Covet.
Shocked to hear about Tom Petty. Here’s a crazy memory of Tom: I saw him in person at Red Rocks (Colorado) in the 80s. He was opening for the band Toto.
Tom Petty and Toto. The memory reels!
Doesn’t it? And that Toto was the main attraction!!?
Ha ha ha ha!
Wow! What a great memory! Red rocks is on my bucket list.
Red Rocks is definitely worth a trip. I was there for Def Leppard, way back when.
Wow! Red Rocks! that must have been one heck of a concert! Also laughing with others that he was the opening for Toto 🙂
I’m currently wearing a tiny spritz of LouLou. I might put something else on for work later. RIP Tom Petty. This has been a very sad year for Rock n Roll.
It sure has!
Yesterday I went with Ginger Ciao, my bargain basement blind buy. I was hoping for ginger, and lots of it. Got ginger in the first blast, but that disappeared very quickly. 10 minutes in, I smelled like suntan lotion. Really nice suntan lotion, but nonetheless.
So today, I’ve promised myself I’m going to dig out my bottle of Theorema, and spritz with abandon. I know I love it, and I’m going to smell fantastic.
Glad it was bargain basement then! And there’s always Theorema.
Wearing Gris Montaigne today from a far too generous NSTer.
Feeling sad about the shooting. Deva, I think, mentioned yesterday feeling ashamed to be human at times. Agree. ????
Its been hard to watch the news.
One of my favorite quotes from HHDL : ” Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects.”
I always try to bring myself back to hope, hope for myself and my family and find the courage to endure.
You smell wonderful! 🙂
I’m wearing Mimosa and Cardamom. The cool down of 10 degrees has made me crave different fragrances, and this is one that is just too much in extreme heat.
Have a great day everyone! I love that teapot.
Fragrance house twin 🙂 I enjoyed small spritzes of Mimosa and Cardamom in hot humid weather, but I should try it again now.
I picked up a sample of this the other day. Yum! This is also the time of year when I crave mimosa, heliotrope and other almond-y perfumes.
that’s funny as I crave those notes in the springtime
You smell great!
SOTD is Boudicca Wode. It fits with the mood, I think. Sad to hear of Tom Petty’s passing; my brother was a fan, so his songs on the radio have always brought a bittersweet moment for me. Not to be morbid, but I think this scent is perfect for a day spent visiting memorials of loved ones who’ve passed. It’s beautiful but austere, quiet.
You smell great! And yes, it is.
SOTD is Narciso Poudree. I was looking for Narciso for its lily note and got sidetracked.
Still bumming about the latest craziness in Las Vegas, and then Tom Petty too? Yesterday was tough. Onward and forward we must go!
Wearing Lovely Sheer today, and wondering if I’m anosmic to it today? I accidently sprayed a wee bit much, but I can only smell it with my nose to my arm. Oh well….it’s one of my faves!
SOTD is April Aromatics Erdenstern, a lovely bonus mini from an NST-er! A nutty-bitter-earthy concoction that I tried on, disliked, gave to my boyfriend, smelled on him a few times, disliked, he gave it back to me, and then… I woke up this morning and nothing else will do.
Huh.
Sometimes that’s how it works… 😉
Huh is right!
Wearing Jo Malone English Oak & Hazelnut. It felt great to spritz it on post morning shower 🙂
Today is going to be my first day back from vacation. I’m spending the day in vintage Miss Dior EDC today.
Good luck! sometimes you need a vacation from vacation
Courtesy of lovestosmellgood and the swapmeet, I’m wearing La Fille de Berlin. I own more SL perfumes than any other house so I figured it would be a safe blind swap, but roses are iffy for me. Fortunately, this one works!
It’s day three of counting calories and cutting salt. Since starting a new medication in June, I’ve put on a pound a month and my pants are feeling uncomfortably tight.
you smell great!
counting calories can be hard….are you using myfittnesspal? that has helped me understand how many calories are in foods I eat everyday.
I find that I can only count calories when I am also regularly exercising. It’s funny how exercise helps all the parts of my life come together. So…I should do it more.
so true, when I get busy I just drop it. Need to be less perfectionistic about it and just show up
It’s a bit time-consuming, but I love myfitnesspal. I was utterly clueless about calorie levels until I started using it, and I like using the tools to look at cumulative data. It’s always an eye-opener for me. I *think* my diet is [fill in the blank] – then I look at the hard data, and can’t ignore the facts.
I love it too, I hated it at first and was so resistant to the idea of counting calories – sounded so 70’s/80’s – but I had no idea how many calories were in an egg or banana or slice of bread – now that I am working in a bigger framework, like how many calories/day I find it freeing
Hello NST family.
Today I realized that it is the highest time that I unified avatars on all social media platforms that I am using – hence I would like to introduce you to my old ‘new’ gravatar.
The temperature dropped by a few Celcius today compared to yesterday and there was some rain before noon. Aedes Cierge de Lune felt like something suitable to not let myself get under the bad weather.
it looked sort of like an underwater creature at first, but now I can see the spray of test strips, cool!
Ha! Last time I checked in the mirror I didn’t look like an octopus 😉
Really like your new avatar!
Thank you 🙂
Today I’m wearing Providence Perfume Co. Violet Beauregarde, and started the day by drinking Irish Breakfast tea. I’ve moved on to my beloved Lemon Ginger tea with my lunch.
You smell pretty.
Thank you. I bought it on my vacation last week. I tested all of the oils there, and I really fell for this one. It will bring back good memories of my trip 🙂
Oh, that’s right. Did you have a nice time? I love Charna’s elegant little shop. Did you get to Newport, Wickford or Jamestown?
It was a great trip. We visited Providence, Newport, Mystic and Nantucket.
And I forgot to report my tea again! I’m now having my after-lunch cup of smoky earl grey.
Delicious tea, and smells so nice!
Love the tea kettle. So sad to hear about Tom Petty. SOTD – Preda by The Rising Phoenix. This week shapes to be dedicated to the rising phoenix creations
My newer bottle of Rien…tender mercies on those guys, it smells exactly like the bottle I got in 2009! L’Etat and Histoires are doing such tremendous, memorable work over quite some time now.
Love Rien – you smell great!
Rien is stunning!
I am once again failing at the community project, and am wearing Penhaligon’s Halfeti from my little bag of post-swim samples. (The lovely Penhaligon’s woman who handed it to me some months ago said it was their best American seller, but I never hear about it here on NST.)
My swim this morning was great; I had a whole lane to myself the entire time! AND I was sporting a new, “100 % chlorine-proof” swimsuit (yeah, right; we’ll see how it holds up) that I absolutely bought this weekend to make myself feel better about my shattered Apple Watch. Mope.
You are not failing, it is not until Friday! I think the number of people doing a week of lily is pretty darned small. I might not start until Thursday.
Lucky you…I feel like I’ve won the Lottery the few times that happened to me.
Best of good mornings NST. The variable weather has me wishing I hadn’t been quite so optimistic about packing my winter costs away. Oh well…another day in warm perfumes is not something to complain about. I’m wearing the ever-lovely, always desirable Black Cashmere. Soon my bottle will be empty, and I will have to begin my back-up. I wonder whether I will turn out to spend my last bottle lavishly and enjoy it while I have it, or whether I will be miserly in my consumption and try to eke it out for ever? I’m more prone to the first sort of behaviour, but … Black Cashmere! Oooh, dunno. I might come over all hoarderly.
Hey, I’m really enjoying seeing the perfumes you’re all wearing that I’ve never heard of. Gives me things to add to my list to try to track down on our visit to the States next year (leave approved; plans being compiled daily). I’m particularly struck by the love that Phlur is getting. I’ll have to locate some.
Be well, all. And please, be safe.
Absolutely everything by Sonoma Scent Studio!
Where in the US will you go next time?
I second that…get thee to SSS!!!!
Stuck in training most of this week. SOTD is Angelique Noire courtsey of Sapphire and the Swapmeet.
Courtesy…
SOTD is Heeley “Cuir Pleine Fleur”
Top: bergamot, violet leaf and cinnamon;
Mid: hawthorn, suede, mimosa, rose and honey;
Base: vetiver, cedar, birch and castoreum.
A very well-behaved floral suede.
I daren’t show TOMK that exquisite teapot so close to our quarterly dividends payday! :^D
One of my favorites although I haven’t bought it. You smell nice today! 🙂
Today is BPAL A World Where There Are Octobers (dried leaves and maple. Smells like fallen leaves and a hint of maple syrup). I’m not a fan of BPAL’s citrus or gourmand stuff for the most part, but their autumn themed perfumes are their best offerings imo. I love their dead leaf note in particular. Anyway, it’s a lovely fall day in Seattle. I hope everyone is safe.
I love the smell of dry leaves. Hmmm, might have to check out a few imps…
They unfortunately don’t have any scents left in their GC that have the dead leaves note! (At least, they didn’t last time I checked.) However, the current crop of ‘Weenies is out, and they’ll probably be available until December or so, so there’s plenty of time to check out reviews on the forum if you don’t want to blind buy a bottle.
That being said, I’m probably going to pick up Dead Leaves & Pink Peppercorn no matter what.
I’m not a big Versace person, but that is a cool teapot.
I’m wearing Cartier L’Envol today. I found a bottle for relatively cheap on Amazon, and, armed with a gift card, I decided to go for it. I like it a lot. Actually, it kind of reminds me of Hermes Vetiver Tonka, but fleshed out with honey.
Based on that description, it sounds like I should try Vetiver Tonka.
Very sad about Tom Petty, and on the heels of the Las Vegas tragedy. I’m in Vilhelm Purple Fig from a swap sample. Hated it for the first half hour, overwhelming cedar. But now it actually smells like Fig and I’m enjoying it.
I’ll be in the very light Rose Alexandrie today. I’m going to a launch this evening of the new Cire Trudon perfumes, and don’t want anything to get in the way of sniffing!
Please give us a full report, I am very interested in this new Cire Trudon collection!
Waiting for the pest control guy–squirrels again?–and stopping by to say hello.
I haven’t worn perfume much lately. My mother had a heart attack back in July, and her health really declined from there on. We called in hospice on the 1st of September — and then last week she passed away. I still can’t really believe it.
I guess I’ll get back to wearing perfume sometime, but I’m just not feeling it right now.
Be well, NST friends —

Hi FearsMice, very very sorry to hear about your mother. It’s good you had a minute for NST today. Hope you’re able to take care of yourself and that we’ll hear from you again soon.

{{{{ FearsMice }}}}. I am so sorry for the loss of your mom.
I’m so sorry for your loss FearsMice. Peace to you and yours.
I’m sorry to read of your loss; my mother died this summer after a long, slow decline (3+ years after a stroke, so it was truly a merciful release by the end). I had more time than you to get used to the pending loss, and it still seemed surreal. Wishing you peace …
Beloved again…hope it’s a great day for all.
Beautiful again!
Finished off my sample of Santal Majuscule today. This one really reminds me of Jeux de Peau.
Me too, and I am not enthused about either of them. They smell great on others but not on me, must be a common note there somewhere.
I think they’re nice, but nothing to write home about.
RIP Tom Petty. One of the local NPR radio stations in my area was playing nothing but Tom Petty songs all day today. I didn’t realize what a ginormous catalog of work he had. I ought to find my “Full Moon Fever” CD and rip it to my laptop one of these days.
Back to the sample stash again. SOTD = Miss Boucheron EdP. I get a fruity floral soap for this one. Nope! On to the next sample…
Hi everyone. I’m wearing Phlur Siano today. I feel enveloped in my personal cloud of beauty. Not sure how much it projects, but hey, it makes me happy. I got my full bottle and yes it’s got an impressive magnetic cap. It’s white and utilitarian, letting in no light. But I confess I still do love pretty sparkly glass bottles a lot!
I LOVEEEE the Phlur bottles….and yes, Siano is a cloud of beauty…you smell so good! Siano is a projection monster even on my scent eating skin.
Fille de Berlin this morning, which was just the ticket, feeling like a good match for a bright day with a sharp autumn bite in the air and a cutting wind that makes leaves skitter around and the skirt of your coat swirl about. The final drydown of that got swamped by a whacking great dose of menthol and eucalyptus courtesy of a big smear of Tiger Balm on my arm (lifting with injuries, bleh!) I like the smell, but damn. My watering eyes!
And a little nostalgic spritz of Anais Anais for contemplation at bedtime.
Gorgeous!
28C here today which Google tells me is 82.4F and is the warmest day we’ve had so far this spring. It ispired me to wear Hermes Le Jardin de Mediterrinee so I’m commuting to work in a soft figgy cloud.
Commando until this afternoon when Assam of India came to mind. The citrus smells extra aromatic in cool weather. The tea gives satisfying depth. It’s a nice feeling.
I love Assam in the dead of winter too…the cold amps up the sandalwood on my wonky skin.
Started off in Infusion d’Iris, switching to Passage d’Enfer for the evening.
I’m in Tauerville Vetiver&Petitgrain from a decant. I like this, it goes to a fresh skin scent very quickly. Also good as a linen spray.
It’s been a crushing few days for so many people on our planet. I’m trying to stay positive, and remember that there are far more good and honorable people in the world than bad. ❤️
Double posting tonight. Just back from an emergency trip to the vet for one of our cats, who has a prolapsed rectum. She is going to have surgery tomorrow. Hopefully she survives the anesthesia and the procedure.
Sending up prayers for the best possible outcome for your sweet kitty and hugs to you.
Thank you, Petunia.
Oh dear poor kitty. Please update us tomorrow.
I hope the surgery goes fine and your cat recovers without any problems. Sending positive vibes.
Oh, sending good wishes to you and kitty.
Eeeek! Hope all goes well with the surgery tomorrow.
SOTD = Guerlain Iris Ganache
After yesterday’s Gourmand Coquin, today’s Iris Ganache is not as sweet experienced with that comparison! This one is a chameleon in me – on the one hand, it smells like lightly lipsticked lips eating chocolate and then morphs into woody vanilla and then chocolatey Iris. I’m not doing a good job of explaining it, but heh,mI hope you get the picture. It wears very close to skin and the dry down is fabulicious.
I may just stick with Guerlain for the week. Now to find a Guerlain with Lily….
Not sure how if you’ll see this but I am curious if IG has a similar vibe, or maybe base, as Mon Precieux Nectar? I just acquired a decant of Angelique Noire from the swapmeet and noticed some similarity to MPN in the dry down.
Today was rainy…so Vanille Insensee seemed appropriate.
Spent yesterday happily wearing a former favorite, Chanel No. 22. It was one of the few in my regular rotation in the 80s (Tom Petty’s heyday!), before I fell down this rabbit hole and acquired dozens of options. In hindsight, though, I did pretty well re fragrance even in the 80s: my regulars were No. 22, Diorissimo, and Anne Klein II, with an occasional spritz of Pheromone.
