Happy Monday and happy Labor Day! Plus, it's Beyoncé's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I've just dragged myself out of bed. I am going to go look for the Fendi Theorema in a sec.
Reminder: On 9/8 we're doing 'world niche'... wear a fragrance from a niche brand that isn't French, Italian or British.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: I don't know how much the Fendi Flowerland Wrappy costs, but they usually run around $150. "Double-sided wrappy in pink silk twill with a multicoloured geometric print. The back is powder pink with a Sixties-style print inspired by Flowerland flowers. To wear around the neck, as a belt, tied at the wrist or to add a touch of colour to bags."
I haven’t showered yet and I am still in Noontide Petals. I will be taking a shower in a minute since I do have to work today, retail doesn’t care if it’s a holiday and you want to hang out with your family. After my shower, I will be wearing LADMM. LADMM is a wonderful fall scent that goes with bonfires and clam bakes.
I’m working today too – hope you have a good, speedy shift!
I shall be trying it for the first time ever later this week. ;^)
Ah you’ve given me an idea for this week 🙂
Starting out the community project this week with Nateeva Dominican Republic (thanks to Elisa P from a freebie meet)
Tea is coffee this morning, french press style and lugged from Holland. Enjoying some peace while the grandparents are skyping with the littles ones.
Today’s plan is Central Park.
Started reading the book Borders that was recommended on BdJ.
such good book recommendations on BdJ! Let us know how it is…
I read Spring Snow while we were in Europe (also on BdJ) and I have to say, it was a very excellent choice!
French press coffee – yum!
Passes SheriG a cup of coffee…
Send some my way too 🙂
Why, thank you – delicious!
Triple strength coffee.
Extra long workout.
World niche.
Lyric Woman Amouage.
Ylang ylang, rose, cinnamon.
Today the musk smells animalic and leathery.
Or maybe that’s me! !!
LOLOLOL
😉
I will play Lemonade for my workout tomorrow
You must not know ’bout me
You must not know ’bout me
Carpe Diem.
Peace.
RIP Walter Becker.
I will play Show Biz Kids on repeat
repeat

:-!
oh, ditto this! I love the humor of Steely Dan, not to mention their unique sound. Another huge loss in the music/art world.
They’re one of my favorite bands ever.
Triple this
I was 9 or 10 when Rikki Don’t Lose that Number was released. One of my favorite songs.
One of my favorite songs too.
My favorite is My Old School – I’m pretty sure I wore down my Countdown to Ecstasy album right through the grooves.
you smell great
Thanks Lovestosmellgood !
World niche – testing Byrdeo (Sweden) Rose Noir, and I expect to see some house twins this week. 🙂
In the first minute or two it slightly reminded me of Portrait of a Lady – rich earthy rose with tangy fruits. However, POAL is much more dramatic, while Rose Noir is soft, almost shy. The longer I wait, the softer and lighter it becomes. It’s a pretty rose scent, feels right for early autumn.
I expect to see lots of Byredo too! Including on me.
I’m sampling Ambre Gris by Balmain, but it just isn’t sitting right (too heavy for summer?) so I’m going to shower and start again with either Osmanthus Interdit or Jasmin et Cigarette. Then I will pour a cup of coffee and stop procrastinating – the quizzes that I know are lurking in my bag aren’t going to grade themselves, and the cat has already refused to grade them for me.
Have a great day everyone!
I feel like this site is a safe haven for procrastinators….just commenting before I have to start working in earnest 🙁
Yes!
Nahema. Trying it for the first time. Have I not dabbed enough or is it nose fatigue? I find it too quiet and can’t smell it much already after 3 or 4 hours.
It could be nose fatigue, especially if you have been testing tons of perfume at once. Nahema should be sprayed for best results unless it’s extrait.
I gave away my bottle, just wasn’t for me, but Nahema has a fan base here. Like you, I had the same experience, just put it on and then after awhile I couldn’t smell it.
Same, although I wore it once and was able to smell it all the way through. I probably applied with a heavie
??? heavier hand that time.
I’ve only ever dabbed it and still find it too overwhelming.
I could barely smell Nahema the first 3 or 4 times I smelled it, myself, and there was no nose fatigue involved, as it was the first sample of the day each time I tried it. I could tell there was something on my skin, but even freshly-applied, I could not smell it at ALL.
Passed the small parfum bottle on to a friend who said it was in *perfect* shape.
The last time I tried it, I could indeed smell at least part of it, but that part was soapy and bland, so I figure I’m not missing much.
It’s a rainy Monday in Stockholm and I’m trying to ease into fall with Hugo Boss The scent. It’s a pretty light oriental, built around a big fuzzy peach note.
It felt like fall here all last week but warmed up today.
Struggling hard to get to grips with the “Real World” after a 2 weeks holiday in France. I don’t think I have anything that counts as world niche, although I did notice some mention of Amouage, so I’m in French mainstream with YSL Paris vintage EDT which is always wonderful.
Always wonderful is right. You smell great!
Ahhhh…. I’ll have to wear mine before summer’s over.
Needing more coffee and some Advil this Monday morning, will soon rectify that. Also, need food in a bad way as my cupboards are empty. Beautiful morning here! I won’t go so far as to say “brisk” but there’s definitely a long awaited change in temperature and humidity.
Recovering from 3 twelves, freshly showered, and going with Smell Bent Gypsy again because it’s pretty, uncomplicated, and easy to wear. That’s about all I can handle today.
I really like Friday’s theme and have many that will coincide- the trick will be choosing a specific fragrance.
Hope the headache goes away soon. I read your “3 twelves” as 3 Bear triple strength coffee and I was about to call 9-1-1 to send an ambulance over to get you. Anyhow, YOUR 3-day weekend is here so enjoy!
I did not have a weekend last weekend so despite pleas from our Asia colleagues for a document, I am making them wait just because 1) it is not urgent (especially considering all that we are dealing with here) and 2) I do not like the person asking for it and if he makes this into a big hoo ha, I can make it bigger.
Spite is such an underutilized strategy.
😉
LOL
Cheers hajusuuri and Deva !
I know, right? I try not to use it too often because I do not want to have a bad reputation…
????
After “3 bear triple strength coffees,” I would definitely need medical attention. Thanks for having my back, Hajusuuri!
That’s the spirit! ???? But it is often strange what work people choose to escalate. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason.
Is that 3 twelve hour shifts? I had never heard that term.
Exactly!
Aha. Then that’s the new thing I learned today.
My last Luckyscent sample order seems to have been quite international so today I am sampling Grandiflora (from Australia) Queen of the Night which I am so far really liking
What’s it like? I’m curious.
SOTD Jo Malone English Oak & Hazelnut. Very green and woodsy with vetiver playing a good rol. Too masculine for my taste. I like English Oak and Redcurrant much more. They both did not make it to my shopping list.
The only plan for today will be visiting my MIL and spending the day at the pool. Today is the last pool activity of the season for us.
Have a great day everyone!
I liked the Red Currant one better as well. I have not yet bought it but may if I need to fill in a $ gap to get a bigger discount.
That is a good idea. I think I might at some point get a decant, but not a fb.
How did you manage to score a sample? When I asked for samples in SFA in NYC they looked at me like I had twenty heads….and they even made a face when I asked if I could spray the tester a bit more on my arm (that young SA would NOT take the tester bottle out of her hands!!! I kept having to tell her to spray some more-LOL!)
I would have made a big stink (hence my name 🙂 ) and berated the SA with a “how unprofessional of you to make THAT face – look at yourself in the mirror) and ask to speak to the supervisor and if the JM supervisor also declines, I would ask to speak to the store manager. Not about the samples, but not allowing you to spritz more.
Ask thegoddessrena and ihadanidea….
LOL! Oh lordie, hajusuuri, one of these days we have GOT to get together 🙂
Forget Saks, they really are the worst. I got mine at Bergdorf with no hassle.
thanks for that tip…next time I am in the big Apple I will skip SFA and head to Bergdorf.
I got the samples at the Grand Central Terminal store. I bought a couple of soaps for a birthday present and I asked for them. The SA there are only nice if you buy something, otherwise, like in your case they get pretty annoyed when you try to spray from the testers. That has happened to me already.
If I buy something from one brand and want samples from another, I ask the SA of the brand I bought to walk around with me to collect samples from the other brands.
Thank you for the tip. I will keep it in mind. You are a master!
Amouage Epic woman
That works!
not wearing anything new today, but last night I sampled Jayne Ormonde Woman for the second time. The first time I tried it, it was sort of a deep oriental and very interesting. This time I only smell vintage make up. Which is the same thing I smelled when I sampled SL Ambre Sultan – anyone know what that is about?
Usually, perfumes with violets smell powdery and lipsticky (e.g. Guerlain French Kiss, Atelier Silver Iris, Guerlain LPRN Black Perfecto, among others). Weirdly enough, I do not see it listed in Ambre Sultan so thinking that the interplay of Angelica and some of the herbs is giving you that vibe.
oh that is interesting and good to know about Violet. I do like the “grandma’s purse” scent, I think I’ll have to try both Woman and Ambre Sultan again, since I can’t trust my nose yet – I also need to make sure I’m smelling them on clean skin.
I dont know what causes that and i am not familiar with Ambre Sultan, but I do know Ormonde Jayne Woman is a shapeshifter on my skin.
Not every wear feels the same. I found out i get a better experience in not too hot weather with two light sprays. Otherwise it can get too sweet. Also had an experience where it completely fell ‘flat’. But most of the time i exprience a great scent, sweet flowery woods.
That is interesting to read – maybe it reacts to body chemistry?
I have both of those (well, samples, tho they’re both on my FB list). I will test tomorrow and see if I get anything similar.
Cool! I will be interested to hear your impressions!
Sotd (again) is Dame Perfumery’s Black Flower Mexican Vanilla (perfume oil version). Enjoy this lovely day, ‘fumeheads!
YUM…..I could wear Dame Perfumery all week and it would qualify for the Niche Community Project 🙂
Would like to see what one of those Wrappy things looks like with jeans & a crisp white shirt.
Just used some John Frieda Colour Refreshing Gloss. Don’t color my whole head, but periodically get lowlights, and this stuff makes my hair look better. I get out of the shower & let it sit for 20 mins instead of the in-shower use they recommend. Unfortunately, I really dislike the scent, and it lingers through a shampoo or two. Not sure if it’ll be worth applying a competing fragrance.
I would find something to do with that wrappy thing myself, if it flew in the window.
A very lazy day. My brain is having a hard time asking choices, but I might return to Zoologist today and smell like a Panda.
I didn’t comment yesterday but I hope you are doing better today.
Thanks for remembering, hajusuuri. You are very kind. A long phone conversation with my daughter lifted my spirits immensely. Even when things look most dire, we can find something to joke about.
right now SOTD is Eau de Driveway Sealant…..MR. CM8 and I are sealing half of our driveway…lordie, what a mess and a pain….
While I have a few niche perfumers that I ADORE (Canadian Jessica September Buchanan who owns 1000 Flowers and is the “author” of my top ten of all times Reglisse Noire, Americans Laurie Erickson of Sonoma Scent Studio, Ineke R. of Ineke Perfumes and Jeffrey Dame of Dame Perfumery) I am going with the American niche company Phlur as my latest obsession for the entire week.
Once we are done I will shower the little black splatters off of my body and face and go with Phlur Moab for its sweet, cinnamon comfort vibe.
Tomorrow I will be in work related seminars all day so I will be in my “fierce force field” of Phlur Greylocke….
Hey, Robin, any chance we could do that as a community project one of these days or did we do something like that already?
“Fierce Force Field”…..wear a perfume that turns you into a “bada$$”
Which of the Phlur are full bottles?
Or did you purchase samples, and won’t get a FB ?
Cheers, CM8 !
😉
NOT TELLING YOU ( I won’t even confess to Donatella next go round-LOL!)
but seriously, have tried all the Phlurs at this point and right now feeling that Greylocke is worthy of a hujusuuri size sample 🙂
“Bear in mind” I am SUPPOSED to be on a no buy…I lapsed a bit…time to get back into action….the problem with reading NST is one succumbs to all of the temptations!!!!!
Oh, I think I need to try Greylocke…
Deva-
Oh yes you do!!!
Ha I was also on a “no buy” and oh well. Ordered Reglisse Noire today. The lovely plyushka sent me some, and I ordered more. Your earlier comment reminded me to wear it this afternoon.
It’s a hajusuuri-sized sample if you haven’t tried it 🙂
LOL! Can’t we pretend that I didn’t try it?
I love the force field idea, I would love to know what you all wear for protection!
Lots of folks go with No 19….Greylocke is similar due to the vetiver, but I find it more scrumptious and chewy (if that makes any sense to you!) and addictive….
Sycomore EDT is good protection too. It must be a vetiver thing.
Ha! You might be on to something there 🙂
may the force be with you CM8
😉
I have a coupon from PHLUR and I’ve had such a hard time deciding between Moab and Greylocke. They are very different, but I love each one. They both last about 4 hours on me. I think I’m going with Greylocke …
OOO! that’s a tough one…I love them both too! but I think Greylocke is great for the fall and I see Moab as more of a winter scent….
We have done similar projects, but not that exact wording! Will add to list.
🙂
SOTD = Memo Paris Eau de Memo
Nice, but not long lasting but it could be that I only used 2 spritzes from a sample?
This past Saturday, my gas tank was a little over 1/3 full so I decided to fill it up. I always use Plus and you never really see it advertised on the big boards and I don’t typically do price comparisons anyway. I have an SUV and the fuel tank holds almost 16 gallons. OMG, I spent $31!!! These are the days I’m glad I don’t drive to work! And…I live in NJ, so theoretically, with all the oil refineries here, fuel should be more plentiful and less expensive than in many parts of the country.
Is NJ still a “you can’t pump your own gas” state like Oregon? Or has it gone over to the dark side?
We still can’t pump our own gas!
Staying in the car at the gas pump is FABULOUS in winter.
What? Are you kidding me? I must be living under a rock, but how can you NOT have the FREEDOM to pump your own gas?! In what states does this lunatic law apply? Cause I will not go there…☠️
New Jersey, you can’t pump your own.
But why? What is the rationale for this insanity?
Unions, dear Deva. Unions.
Pretty sure there isn’t a gas station attendant union in Oregon. I remember when I lived there that there were a couple of ballot measures to end the full service only practice and they overwhelmingly failed at the ballot box. I know my mom loved not getting out of the car to pump gas in the rain. 🙂
You can come to Michigan, I’m pretty sure that here, there is no place left that will pump gas for you.
I love Michigan! When I was a kid we went to Mackinac island. I was horse crazy and but had no skills, which the horse I was riding caught on to quickly. Got about 20 minutes into it and my horse said “He** No!” and took off back to the stable with my seven year old self bouncing around like a rag doll in the saddle. I still remember all the people on the streets stopping, watching, and turning to see us disappear down the road. That horse was bookin’ it!????
When I was a kid, the small mid-Michigan town where I grew up still had a gas station where attendants would pump your gas for you. That was about 20 years ago though.
Exactly! I WISH we had full-service gas stations anymore! What a luxury.
I am with kpaint…I would LOVE for someone to pump my gas!
Ditto. I’d love to have someone else pump gas. One of the reasons I love Oregon (though there are many others, of course!). Didn’t they change that law recently, though, so that there is self service at rural stations?
Lucky Rochesterians can pump their own AND still find a few gas stations that will pump for you.
Your horse story made me ????????
Yeah, I hate it, too! And some people get confused about it, like I did when I first moved to Oregon. A pump attendant is not *allowed* to do anything else except pump gas. So you’re SOL if you were expecting to clean your windshield, too. ????
Expecting them.
I would rather not be able to pump gas than not be able to shop on Sundays! Yep, blue laws prohibiting retail commerce on Sundays in Bergen County in NJ are still in effect.
I know it was happenstance, but between checking the price@ the pump and inserting the nozzle, the price rose 6 cents a gallon.
And there is no cents symbol on my phone?
Ack !
Where is my typewriter and rotary?
LOLOLOL
😉
They are in my basement:)
$.06 looks awkward so I go with six cents. 🙂
$31 doesn’t sound bad, wasn’t it much higher a few years ago?
Have to tell you all, petrol in the UK is over £1.20 a litre (that’s about $1.50), which makes it about $5.70 a US gallon. To fill our sedan car which has about a 15 (US) gallon tank from nearly empty cost £80 last week (a bit over $100). I think it works out at roughly twice the USA price.
Yes anarchkitty! To fill a 16 gallon tank in UK at todays price/exchange rate is 107 dollars.
Considering I filled a nearly empty tank a few weeks ago for $37, it was an almost 38% increase in fuel cost. I guess it was a shock based on what one is used to paying, rather than its relative cost vs other places where gas is typically way more expensive (to me).
I was thinking the same but without knowing the size of the tank…
16 gallon tank, 1/3 full – so filled up about 11 gallons for $31, not bad right?
Good estimating skillz! Actual numbers were 9.7 gallons @ $3.199/gallon.
I put gas in my car the other day and thought, where am I living? Beyond Thunderdome?
Maybe after Irma…????
Just did a quick price comparison, and your petrol would cost you over $80 US dollars here in New Zealand!
31 dollar for 10 gallon????!!!!!
Holy smoke, that is insanely cheap.
You should see the gas prices here in The netherlands 🙁
….and that is because we have extremely high (highest in the world?) excise duty on gas.
This is why the people who live in The Netherlands appear to be more fit with all that cycling going on 🙂
🙂
And we are a small but densely populated country (488 people per km2).
So traffic jams everywhere during rush hours in urban areas.
So maybe its a good thing people are discouraged to take a car (you also have to pay a hefty car tax). And public transport is pretty decent.
But it seems our days of fitness are over. Sales of electrical bikes are on the rise. Also, motor scooters are much more popular now.
I’m one of the lucky ones who have today off work, and am in a light spritz of Chanel 19 EDT. Sometimes many sprays of this are not enough, but for some reason this morning ONE is plenty. And gorgeous, of course. Happy Monday everyone. 🙂
SheriG, have you tried Annick Goutal Heure Exquise EDP? It is closer to No. 19 EDP but has a classic vibe that you may like!
Second that, I have some from a generous NST..going to stick my neck out and say that sometimes I prefer it to No 19 depending on my mood.
this is good to know, I know comparisons are not perfect, but it helps me to get to know perfumes I have never smelled!
haven’t smelled no 19 in YEARS but will say that my recent sampling of Heure Exquise in both EDT and EDP were delightful!
I’ll also add that No 19 edp is vastly different from the edt. I’ve worn Heure Exquise (edp) many times and never picked up any connection to No 19 until I tried the Chanel in edp.
And adding my ‘two scents’ to say that No 19 EDT or EDP current versions are very different from vintage….
I have a decant of Heure Exquise and like it very much, but I suspect I’ll like it better when the weather cools down. There’s a note in it that’s not in 19 that bothers me a little in warm weather – maybe sandalwood?
I’m thinking it’s the vanilla. It feels like it doesn’t belong. I happen to love vanilla so the dissonance makes it interesting.
Ah, interesting. I’ll keep that idea in mind next time I wear it.
You smell super.
Thanks Kelly 🙂
Well it might be a holiday but it’s sure got its MONDAY on. Our heat wave finally broke last night — yes! — so I threw open the windows — smoke. No! There’s a wildfire going south of here, and I can hardly see across the canyon. Grump. Windows closed again. I know I should count my blessings — no flood, the fire’s nowhere close enough to be a danger — but daaaaaaaang I was so looking forward to fresh air!
Gotta do some work-work later too. MONDAY for sure.
No scent yet… hmm, might need some PULP to chase the grey day away.
Sorry your fresh air plans were thwarted! Hope things calm down for you soon. Seems to me like a wildfire is a perfectly reasonable thing to get upset about (even if it’s the “good” kind).
It’s been a tough summer for a lot of folks – including y’all.
Happy Labor Day USA friends.
No big plans today. Was thinking I might go to The USA Open but currently under a blanket reading on the couch.
Looks like perfect weather out there so must get out soon.
SOTD: Sycamore
there is always central park!
Indeed! However, I prefer Riverside Park as it’s not so busy.
You smell great!
Thanks! And I sprayed a ton!
You smell awesome!
You smell great.
Heading to work, going to try and stop at Ulta to get half off Buxom lip pencils. Hopefully my colors will still be there. Sotd is Oriental Express, because I’m this much closer to getting a bottle. Happy Labor Day!
Good luck at Ulta!
Thanks! I only bought one, anonymous allure. Half off cosmetics can get me in trouble!
You smell gooooooooood, lillyjo !
😉
Thanks Bear!
SOTD is Assam of India again, mostly because I knew I would be doing some yard and house work today and don’t like wearing anything too heavy for that.
I ordered a Phlur sample kit today! Very excited for it; hopefully will be here by Friday for world niche day (because it’s American and that makes it technically NOT British, French, or Italian, right? 🙂 ) I’m getting Hanami, Olmsted & Vaux, and Greylocke. What have other folks gotten and what do you think of them so far? I’ve seen Moab and Olmsted pop up a few times in the SOTD threads.
Also, a very Happy Labor Day to those in the U.S. It’s only been in the past couple of years that I’ve worked a job where holidays and weekends off are a given. I’ve already said this in the weekend thread, but to all of those who are not eligible for those luxuries, whether you are in retail, medicine, emergency response, restaurants, etc, just know that I see you, and I appreciate all of the work that you do. I hope that at the minimum that you get off of work at a reasonable hour, and that you get a chance to spend time with friends and family.
I have tried all the Phlurs. I am a nutter for this niche house….after having gone off the deep end with the Berdoues and Dame Perfumery I have now honed in on Phlur.
I love all of them. Olmsted and Vaux is very light…a citrus with a creamy vibe….some folks complain of longevity but it must last on my skin as I have gotten loads of comments wearing it. Hanami is NOT an aquatic floral to me…my skin picks up the fig, hazelnut and sandalwood and it reminds me a bit of Angel Muse without the vetiver. Moab is NOT dry on my skin..just came out of the shower and am wearing it….it is incredibly sweet and cinnamon-y…akin to Saffran Troublant and also has a Tauer vibe but less harsh….Greylocke is utterly addictive (and I am NOT a fan of vetiver but this one is glorious!!! vetiver, pine and apple…it is chewy to me and I also got a huge compliment the other day at work while wearing it)…Siano is weird but I like it…has an almost rotten fruit vibe like Pulp and a bit like vintage Calyx but not as tart…Hepcat is super potent…not as sweet as I thought it would be…tobacco, oud and dark vetiver is what my skin picks up….I think it leans more masculine but I will wear it because I like it and I don’t care!
Will be curious to hear your impressions once your sampler arrives….even if you don’t like any of them you can always gift the sampler because the presentation is quite lovely 🙂
Ha! and I forgot to say that you smell good! Assam was my first full bottle from the house of Berdoues!
I must say that I am definitely not much of a vetiver fan (though I did okay with Encre Noire, isn’t that funny?), so I’m intrigued by the idea of a vetiver for non-vetiver lovers.
And I love Vetiver but didn’t care for Encre Noir. Well, really, I just couldn’t smell it. At all. Empty air. ????
Would you believe that I have never tried Encre Noir?
Macaque today – most of my on-theme scents aren’t really suited to the warm weather we’re having, but I like this one in the heat.
Still feeling silly and romantic, and slightly ill (with NEW symptoms, what is going on??) – a disorienting combination. But I also got some REALLY good news today, totally unlooked for, so I’ll let my high spirits take over. A happy Monday for me, at least.
Congrats on your good news. Maybe everything is making you feel a little giddy perhaps?
Thank you! I thought maybe I was giddy, but now I am pretty sure I’m just plain old sick. At least I have nice things to think about.
I hope it’s some consolation, and that you feel a lot better soon!
Congrats on the good news! Always nice to hear.
Thank you! It is good news that makes me more accountable, too, which I’m oddly grateful for.
Yay for good news! Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you – I will do my best.
Two thumbs up for good news!????????????????
Thank you!
Gorgeous day and thankfully I’m off to enjoy it, though my husband is working. Boo. So far, a few errands, a little cleaning, and a walk to the park later.
Wearing a bit of Le Labo Mousse de Chene and still unsure how a feel about it. Sometimes I catch a whiff and I think “how beautiful!” and other times it smells like a men’s 80s mall scent.
When I read the notes for Mousse de Chene I was reminded again of Obsession for Men, lol.
I need to smell that again. It’s been years and in my mind I think I’m confusing it with Escape for Men which my brother wore. Or was it Obsession he wore, lol.
Off to the Rodeo (literally) in AG Eau du Sud. It’s supposed to hit 100 degrees and there’s a wildfire burning 30 miles or so from the site so we’ll see how things go.
Enjoy the holiday, fellow Americans.
Oooh, enjoy the rodeo!
Rodeo sounds fun! 100 degrees maybe not.
SotM = Phenomene Verte by Maggie Mahboubian, Parfums Lalun/Lalun Naturals (West Hollywood)
Green, aromatic, floral, and beautifully smooth. The bottle is a few years old and the juice has darkened. It continues to smell wonderful. Love it.
Lalun is a village in the Alborz mountains of Iran where Maggie Mahboubian spent time as a child. I’m looking forward to exploring a wider world-view of fragrance this week.
This one sounds great. I look forward to seeing your choices the rest of this week!
Interesting!
Triple digit heat + smoke today so I am wearing Cedrat Envirant to trick myself into feeling cool. Some idiot shot off a firework on a heavily-travelled hiking trail, sparked a forest fire, and now one of my favorite areas will be forever changed, so I’m pretty po’ed about that this morning.
An excellent reason to be p.o.’d! What a wonderful world we would live in if the idiots would just pack up and leave town! ????
Idiot + fireworks suspected for our local fire, too. Grrrrr
Oh, this makes me mad. What’s wrong with people!!
You have to worry about how disconnected people are from nature that they would do such a thing. The mindless destruction is so depressing.
I think they’re disconnected period.
🙁 wow, the stupidiy, i’d be p.o’d as well.
SotD French Lover, Frederic Malle
Totally NOT on theme.
But the vegetal greenness keeps me kinda focused and calm in the total chaos called work 🙂
SotE is also not on theme.
MAAI (Bogue)
This is one of my favourite discoveries I made this year.
MAAI is so nice. You smell great!
Thank you!
I see that the poet John Ashbery died. I was reading his work recently….anyway, I’m in Auckland and spent a couple of hours going perfume crazy . Found some iris perfumes at last and my top 3 are La Pausa, Van Cleef and Arpels Bois d’Iris, and Prada Infusion d’iris. I also tried atelier d’ours (?) iris with gold flakes …and then, as usual, I lost focus and tried Lubin Kismet, Carner D600, Figment for men, lilac bloom, moonlight patouchli, california reverie, gabrielle, marrakech intense ( aesop)….and then another leopard skin coat ( didn’t buy it, thank god)…buckwheat pancakes (food not scent) , three pairs of birkenstocks, oat milk ( vegan shop)….arrived back at my hotel and ate muesli for dinner and laid out my 16 blotters , none of them labelled and thought, ‘when will I ever learn?’ Fortunately I will be at the museum all day today, obsessing over VC&A bois d’iris.
Wow! That’s all I can say to that much sampling.
Do any of the discounters ship to you? Found my BdI on Notino. It was pretty inexpensive.
Some do and I see I can get the Prada $50 cheaper from an AustraliaN site. I doubt that I will buy anything while I am here because they were 100ml. I still haven’t sniffed Hiris or Iris Silver Mist. Waterdragon suggests I test sycomore while I am here, too. The two perfumes calling my name are La Pausa and Bracken.
Just bought VCA BdI yesterday from fragrancenet for around $95 for the 2.5 oz. (no affiliation) That’s w/ their current coupon of 35% off.
Oh, missed that. RIP.

Wearing a fougere bengale sample procured for me by my delightful perfume pal enabling my coffee scent search–this is an intriguing and spicy scent, kind of like what I imagined the Serge Lutens to smell like when I first read the Guide–and much more transparent than the Sl’s turned out to be.
There is a bit of coffee in the mix.
What’s you fav coffee scent so far?
Maybe Intoxicated? The kerosene one is great, too…but goes weird on my skin.
Wearing Prada Infusion de Vetiver. It is sunny and quiet, and i just want to lay in my bed all day long.
Sounds like a good plan!
Getting more spring-like here, Le Galion’s La Rose for me today.
Sotd: Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche. It’s ok, but I prefer the Goddess plain.????
Scent twins today. I’m in BG body cream and a couple sprays of the Eau Fraiche. Wanted to keep it light today as we were visiting my brother in law and his wife this weekend. There was a golf tournament that my bro-in-law was in, my hubby caddied for his brother, and I was able to walk the course with them on Saturday and Sunday. My feet are SORE! Lol..
There was another crazy idiot that started a fire in the backwoods nearby here too. Can’t wait for some rain, it’s been nearly 2 months.
Just think of all the calories you burned! The BG body cream is so tempting. I would love to be able to layer all my perfumes with corresponding body creams. That would be heavenly.
Starting a week of ‘world niche’ in Spain. Jesus del Pozo’s “Arabian Nights” is a Spanish take on an Arabian staple.
Top: rose and thyme;
Mid: cedar, sandalwood, guaiac wood, patchouli, vetiver and saffron;
Base: oud, labdanum, amber and musk.
I survived the morning flight. (Well, either that, or my ghost has learned to type).
Oh, I remember that one, but never smelled it — is it good?
It’s a rose-oud, among many others. This one suits me, but I’m not sure it’s remarkable. :^)
Wearing Ralph Lauren Safari and even though I swore I wouldn’t, anxiously checking all the weather sites every time the National Hurricane Center puts out a new Irma prediction. (Current prediction = at the least we’ll lose power, so if you don’t hear from me for a while after Friday/Saturday, it’s because of that.) Cross those fingers for me!
Good luck with the weather!
Yes, good luck!
Fingers crossed. Stay safe!
Keeping fingers crossed!!!
Very good luck!
Wearing a lovely rose and Sandalwood cloud of Uncle Serge’s Santal Majescule to work this wet, wet, wet and cold Tuesday morning. So much for spring!
Hope everyone with a holiday is making the most of it in their favorite ways and the rest of you are seeing your workdays fly past.
I love sandalwood. I bet you smells great (I haven’t tried that one yet)!
Oooh you absolutely should! It is divine. One of my absolute favorites 🙂
SM is so nice in cold weather!
Iris Fauve today.
I do like this one but I don’t know that I will seek more when my decant is gone.
Having an early birthday dinner with my family tonight — very excited to see my girls! I’m wearing Creed’s Fleurissimo — love it.
Happy early birthday! Enjoy the time with your girls!
Happy Birthday! Hoping you have a lovely time celebrating with your girls!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Labor Day, all! We are officially New Mexicans (is that the correct term?)! Been here since Saturday evening. The moving truck hasn’t arrived, but my car has which contained all of my clothes and we have an air mattress so I’m good! On a side note, the townhouse we are renting is three stories…I’m going to have a tush and legs of steel by the time I move out of here ha! Work starts tomorrow so I’m excited and a bit nervous but I’m sure it will be fine. 🙂
Now on to perfume talk! I grabbed the last of my sample of Un Jardin Sur Le Nil this morning. Just loving it. Will have to try others of that series. Going to take a nice hot bath later so will try something along the theme of the week after that. All of my juice arrived with my clothes in my car so I’m excited to plan out my scents for the week. I will try and use some restraint since it’s a new job, but restraint usually isn’t the name of my game ha!
On a separate note, went into Lush today and was amazed but overwhelmed! I’ve seen many of you posting about their products. Any specific recommendations?
Happy to hear you arrived safe and sound and all your little pretties too! I sure hope that 3 stories includes and elevator…
Have a great tomorrow on your first day on the new job! What scent are you planning?
I think I’m going with D600. That way I will be on theme but also I don’t think one (or maybe two) spritz will be too much. 🙂
Yay! You made it! My sister used to live in a 3 story townhouse and she always said she never had to do cardio – running up and down the stairs all day was enough!
As for Lush, always check out their perfume (they’ve dc’d a few of my favorites – boo), their shower gels are great – I hope they’ll put Rose Jam back on the shelves this autumn.
Thanks! Will give them a shot. I walked in briefly, walked around and looked at a few things and left. There was so much to check out but my love hasn’t limited patience shopping for bath products ha!
Congrats on your safe arrival in New Mexico! Fall is gonna be gorgeous there. As for Lush, my recommendations are to try their shower gels and/or shower creams, depending on how dry your skin is.
Me thinks shower cream given this New Mexico dryness. I’ve been slathering with coconut oil and lotion constantly for the past two days!
Hey glad you made it ok, good luck tomorrow!
Thank you!
Yay, glad you made it safely.
With Lush, I really like their bubble bars if you are a bather. I cut them into 3 or 4 pieces, although you can be really extravagant and use it up at once. Also seconding their shower gels and I like their conditioners too.
Good luck tomorrow!
I saw those and started to get one but my gu was rushing me! Wish I’d had one for my bath tonight. Definitely on the list to try! Thanks for the recommendation and tip.
Phew, you made it! I’m surprised that you’re beginning to work so quickly only because traveling can be exhausting. Wishing you the best of luck in your new life!
Thank you so much for the “good luck”! Honestly it was an accident as far as starting work so fast. When I knew for sure we were moving I panicked about not having a job and started applying for stuff right away because I thought it would take a while to find one. To my surprise I had a lot of responses and within a couple of weeks someone made me a great offer. So yes, now I wish I’d waited a bit but at least I’ll get a paycheck fast ha! Plus will help get to know the area and meet people.
Hope you have a fantastic first day of work! Moving and a new job is both exciting and overwhelming. Wishing you a smooth transition.
Lush is so fab. You can hardly go wrong with anything to get there. Bubble bars are probably my fav. You only need to break off a small amount for each bath.
A little late today. I spent part of Labor Day helping Mr. Jalapeno hang a new ceiling fan in our family room. This fan came unassembled in its box, so the fan blades aren’t on it yet.
SOTD = the last of my sample of Miss Dior Eau Fraiche EdT. One less sample in the stash, w00t!
I don’t know why it’s so satisfying to finish a sample but it is!
So late today but SOTD was Equistrius. It was a beautiful day, breezy and warm. We went to a nearby state forest and took a walk on a trail that winds around a lake. We spotted a Blue Heron and met a wonderful dad who took his three sons fishing. I was amused when he intoduced himself as Glen Miller. On the ride home, we stopped at a farm stand and bought excellent corn-on-the-cob, peaches, apples and garlic bulbs from a local farmer. I spent several hours doing chores as well but still a relaxing day.
I love buying fresh produce from local farmers! Sounds like a great day!
Nearly at the end of our Oak Ridge North, Texas holiday – boo hoo! Having a wonderful time & have done a great deal of exploring – spent the day in Waco on Fri & in Montgomery yesterday. Tomorrow is just the two of us in local mall & Market Street areas, buying bits & pieces & final gifts to take home for friends shopping, but I will be in both Nordstrom & Sephora hopefully trying out what I can’t get at home & blagging samples! Also, depending on cost, may pick up some Eight & Bob original for a friend, even though we have an unspoken GBP 5.00 limit for holiday gifts & I have already filled that quota with gorgeous soap from the local farmers’ market on Sat & green tea bags from Trader Joe’s! Watch this space for updates…
