A very happy Almost-Friday to you! Plus, happy National Waffle Day and International Strange Music Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
It's a testing day for me — that counts for back to school, right? I'm going to start with the new Cire Trudon set.
Reminder: on 8/25 we're doing Back to school... wear a fragrance that fits the theme, for whatever reason.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Atelier Cologne Oud Saphir from the sample set. It’s obviously synthetic from start to finish, with a sort of black-raspberry fruitiness up top plus a clean, tidy oud and suede at the core — it is determined not to offend anybody — but to my surprise I REALLY like it. It’s fun! At that price I can’t see myself owning a full bottle, but never say never.
House twin! I’m in Oolong Infiniti. Of all the their scents I’ve tried it’s the only one I’ve worn more than once. Like you, I don’t adore it enough for the price of a full bottle. But I’ll enjoy my sample while it lasts.
I like Oolong Infini as well, got a 30ml bottle of it that I need to display on my dresser. Need to use it more often.
You can buy separate 30 ml bottle of it I think
Slow wake up Thursday here. I woke up a couple of hours ago but can’t seem to get moving. Drinking coffee, watching an old, old episode of Charmed and thinking about doing some housework/laundry.
SOTD is left over SmellBent Incensed from last night. I really like this one.
Keeping all the people in Texas and Louisiana in my thoughts! ✌????
Twins on the slow wake up! I just now at my breakfast and it’s almost lunch time.
AND, so slow that I had to google Texas Louisiana to know what you were talking about. Stay safe everyone!
That one is great, as is Incensed Short Fuse.
I used to love Charmed. Such a mindless, guilty pleasure.
Charmed is so fun!
Olmstead and Vaux
thanks for the idea Robin…I might make tomorrow a “testing” day for the back to school theme…oh wait, that means I can’t wear Olmstead and Vaux 🙁
Oh and National Waffle Day…now we’re talkin’ 😉
And I see that Demeter is having a back to school 10 percent off everything sale with free shipping…..
and it would be nice if I spelled that properly-
Olmsted & Vaux!!
and here is my lemming for the day-
http://www.hm.com/us/product/78629?article=78629-A
I promise that this is my last comment to myself-LOL!
That’s a nice pattern on that dress.
I know, right?…you know me…I am ALL about the gorgeous perfume bottles!
Just looked at the Phlur site. I’ll let you know if you’ve earned your enabler pin after my lunch break. That $20 sampler is calling my name!
LOL! Honestly it’s not a bad price and if you don’t like anything easy enough to pass on 🙂 The presentation is gorgeous and would make a nice gift too (I have been known to do that with sampler sets that either don’t work for me or I love so much that I want to share the wealth…did that several times with Ineke samplers which are just stunning!)
Here’s your pin chocolatemarzipan8! I chose Olmsted & Veux, Graylocke, and Siano. Reading more, I’m skeptical that I will love them. But, hey, why not try?
Yup! no harm in trying…and like I said the samplers are lovely so you can always pass them on as gifts if nothing works for you…but if you like vetiver I think you will be smitten with Greylocke 🙂
And I also think it is a good company to support as they do give to charities and support worthy causes as well.
OMG their site is so much fun! It’s so targeted towards today’s tech aesthetics. I love it.
Ha! knew you would love it! I also love that they use recycled materials, have no phylates and parabens in their products (sorry Koyel if I misspelled those!), don’t test on animals and give back to various charities…it’s a win win anyway you look at it!
It called to me as well, and I replied. Olmsted designed two or three of Rochester’s parks, including the one that shows off all its lilacs for the annual Lilac Festival.
Oh wow! I did not know that, although I am familiar with the famous Rochester lilacs…what other two did you order for the sampler pack?
I listened to the siren’s song, selected some samples, and then stepped back from the ledge (sorry for the metaphor mixing). However, if cm8 keeps up with the daily wearings, I might have to re-visit the site….I mean, how much restraint can be expected of me, really?
We will forgive you if you go over the ledge 🙂
I might just push you-LOL!
Wearing Mito today.
This once never fails to make me smile.
Cello lessons after work today, and my instructor like this one too.
There is my tenuous back-to-school link for today.
Hey, that works! Hope it is a good lesson.
She is an excellent teacher – I always feel 3 inches taller and 10 lbs thinner after a lesson with her.
Wow, I need to take up the cello 😉
I’ll join you! ????
ahh, the beautiful cello. what piece(s) are you working on?!
I just finished a 16 hr weekend practicum where we worked over Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring, Gershwin’s Summertime and Coldplay’s Viva La Vida. There were 18 string players, and it was an incredible experience.
New pieces starting this week I am guessing
Fun lineup!
International Strange Music Day?? That is my kind of day! I live for strange music! Let me know if you need any recs.
Preparing for Hurricane Harvey today in Houston. Thankfully, so far, Houston is right on the edge of the storm, but I’m not taking any chances.
I’m picking the new Flash by Andy Tauer, as I got my sample (and his magazine) yesterday. Delicious! It’s like a more unisex PHI.
Stay safe!!
Thank you. 🙂
In Houston now for work and hoping to fly out tomorrow morning!
Actually rebooked to fly out earlier than originally planned to hopefully not have any issues. We shall see!
Wish I liked the new Flash but not for me. Glad you love it!
Oh, I hope it all works out!
I’ll admit when I saw the sample I knew it would be polarizing but it smells fantastic to me. I’m a bit nervous to wear it to work though. I wore a very light spritz.
Good luck with Harvey!!
And of course, do give us a rec!
Le Monde Fabuleux de Yamasuki, French composers and a Japanese childrens choir is weird but very charming (though i recommend skipping the first song.
https://youtu.be/a8PBKeE6SxU
And this is stuck in my head currently: avant garde British pop queen. https://youtu.be/vvaWPm6WQPs
Thank you! That will be my afternoon tea viewing.
Surprised to hear Patch Flash is more unisex Phi in my opinion. I love my Phi <3
in *YOUR opinion
Hope nothing comes of Harvey for anyone!
Will check out your music links later. I like me some weirdness. I’ll be making my own weird music at my uke lesson tonight. I’ve been learning how to improvise somewhat. Though weird in my case will be totally unintentional. Maybe we can just call it “bad” for now, lol.
I live in Houston but am away at my mom’s now and am watching the news with dread… stay safe!
Good luck with Harvey!
Stay safe!
It’s cooler today so Amoureuse seemed safe. But I have to go to the gym, so I’ll shower before going and after , then apply it again. Or, I could pair it with black velvet athletic shoes and pearls for the workout 😉 .
Testing for the Back to School project is a great idea!
Please send photo of workout in pearls 🙂
Ormande Jayne’s One. But I am still very congested from being sick so I can’t even tell if I smell good… 🙁
House twin! Curious about One…?
I smelled the pepper but that was about the only thing I picked up before my congestion set in. I’ll report back when I’m not quite as sick.
I wanted something simple after yesterday’s Vol de Nuit, so I went with PdN Rose Pivoine.
I think I may do Carnal Flower again today, but also considering Cuir d’ Ange.
Waffles sounds really good right now! Been too long.
You can’t go wrong either way!
Thanks, TriesToBeClassy! I actually feel like that most of time, trying to be classy that is!
SOTD is Equistrius, and today I’m noticing that the leather combined with that slight cardboard note that iris-leather fragrances sometimes have is reminding me of a leather bookbag … sooooo, kind of back-to-school-ish. 🙂
You smell delicious.
Do you smell the chocolate?
I get quite a lot of powdery sweetness (more like cocoa) from it.
I got lots of chocolate in it which puts me off a but alas.
I don’t recognize it as chocolate or cocoa, but I do get a semi-sweet powderiness that reads as “rich” but not at all foody.
Leather Bookbag sounds good.
You smell great!
Love Equistrius. It’s a sweet Iris helium balloon on me.
Leather book bag + iris + cocoa sounds wonderful. On the sample list it goes.
accidentally testing (I grabbed the wrong vial) Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique today. I get a LOT of peach, which I find a little nauseating. Not for me..
..yesterday evening we had eggs on eggo waffles as breakfast for dinner while watching Stranger Things (where coincidentally the main character loves eggos) – first time eating waffles in months – and look, today’s waffles day! How mildly exciting.
I am not a fan of peach either, but love “breakfast dinners,” as we call them.
Yep. “Breakfast for dinner,” we call it, and the kids love it.
I didn’t love that one either. It smelled a little citrusy-fruity-floral-generic to me and too sharp for me.
I grabbed the wrong sample and spritzed the other night and it threw me off. I like what I accidentally sprayed (HdP 1899) but wasn’t what I was craving at all.
I really don’t get Ex Nihilo perfumes. All I’ve tried way too sweet for me.
Had to be at work at 5 this morning and I am wearing Ingrid right now.
I am in the same “5am” boat almost every day. I hope your day goes fine. You smell great!
Palissandre d’Or for me today. I think I’ll make buckwheat waffles for dinner!
Probably my least favorite but I love Aedes in general
Me too. My least favourite is the original.
Getting warmer and I felt like wearing something elegant today so Prada Infusion d’Homme it is.
Plan for the afternoon is a swim and then deciding on clothes that I want to take on holidays as they will need a laundry before they land in my suitcase 😉
You smell really great! I love so many Pradas…
Our weather this week has been downright fall-ish. Ormonde Jayne Woman for the last day of my two week staycation, tomorrow it is back to work. Ugh.
Enjoy the last of your staycation…I go back to work next Friday 🙁
Thanks! Staycations are the best, I love being a tourist in my own town and getting to spend extra time with the fam. Enjoy your days off!
thanks madtowngirl! I have been busy getting stuff done around the house that I normally don’t have the time or energy to do…but in many respects I am spoiled as Mr. CM8 is very very good about doing housework 🙂
Ugh! It is always tough to be back to work after vacation. But we will survive…
We will!
I love Woman. You smell super.
Smelling good in Chanel no. 22, now I’m home from work I will re spray with something to celebrate the start of my long wknd, I’m off work on Fridays and its the Aug bank holiday on Monday, yay!
You smell lovely! Enjoy the xtra long weekend.
You smell very nice.
Enjoy your long weekend.
You smell gorgeous. Have a good bank holiday w/e!
Wearing Chanel Beige EdT. A beautiful perfume that is making me more cheerful after I received the good news from my boss an hour ago, that I got the promotion I was hoping for for a while already. Well, I guess I have the perfect excuse to buy a full bottle of a perfume from my loooong shopping list to celebrate. Which one? Tough decision since I am allowing myself to only one.
Congratulations ????????????
Yay! Great news! do let us know which full bottle you choose to buy!
Congrats!
Woo hoo! Congrats!????
That’s great to hear! Congrats! Hope you decide on something really special to enjoy.
Wonderful news – congrats!
That’s fantastic! So happy for you ????
Definitely a great reason to treat yourself.
Congratulations and enjoy picking your celebratory bottle!
Yay! Congratulations!
Well done! :^)
Woo hoo on the promotion! It’s so awesome to hear good news.
Congratulations!
Congrats! Have fun picking that well deserved bottle!
Congrats!!!
Congratulations!
Congratulations! Have fun picking your new bottle!
Wearing No. 5 L’Eau again today, as I have been nearly all summer : )
VERY interested to hear impressions of the new Cire Trudon scents!
You smell lovely!
Ditto on hearing about the Cire Trudon!
Early stages of Bruma are lovely peppery iris – violet, then turns darker & drier. Very much like, very discouraged about how many old scents I’d have to pull out for comparison! Also not sure how long it will stay interesting.
Sad to say that’s as far as I’ve gotten, although also ended up putting on Twilly d’Hermes.
Thanks Robin! Do keep us posted : ) Sounds encouraging just out of the gate.
Oh, I am curious about Twilly! Thoughts?
For me, meh. Will review tomorrow or Tuesday.
You smell great! It’s easy to wear L’Eau a lot!
Gabrielle EDP. I do like this, but it is very reminiscent of Coco Mademoiselle.
Oh! We don’t have it yet by me (coming September 1 according to the local Chanel counter SA)… most interested in trying that one too. I’m the classic case of loving Mademoiselle on others but not able to stand it on myself, so hoping Gabrielle will work on me.
Same. I have often complimented others wearing CM, but it just doesn’t work for me.
Totally agree, minus the patch. I tried a sample last week and it started off so sweet I almost had to scrub (it was humid that day) but then it settled down. I think they really could have named it Coco Mademoiselle L’eau.
The sweetness could be a killer – although I’ve had good luck with the No. 5 L’eau, so maybe?? At any rate, will be picking up a new Coco EDT for fall this year in a return to an old favorite!
Yes! Naming Gabrielle CM L’eau instead would’ve made way more sense. And maybe make Gabrielle something totally different.
About to go for my run (telling the world so I WILL go, right? Yes, I will.), but afterwards I am going to put on a dab of Bois de Paradis body cream. Cooler here today and BdP sounds good.
I would have Korean street food waffles – with ice cream – if I could. But I think it will more likely be yogurt with berries from the Farmers market. Also delish.
Did it!
Good for you!
Please elaborate on the Korean street food waffles…a younger family member has suddenly developed an interest in Korean food and I want to share this with her…it sounds yummy!
Lots of delicious street food in Korea – hope this link works (or just Google ice-cream filled waffles in Korea):
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eda6Nv0Rcjo
oh wow! that looks amazing!
when I was a kid my parents took me to an annual carnival/fair in a very tiny town in PA and my favorite treat to eat was a waffle /ice cream stand…they made the waffles from scratch and they were pipping hot which made the ice cream soft and melted…delicious!
Chiming in to say that Korean food is fantastically good – my favorites are Bo Ssam and Bibimbap. I appreciate any dining experience that starts with an array of small dishes being set on the table as soon as my butt hits the dining chair.
Also gotta say, if you’re cooking for a crowd, Bo Ssam is a great choice. I use the recipe from The Bitten Word, which is an adaptation of David Chang’s. It’s always a hit.
Oh thank you for these tidbits! She has already eaten in Koreatown in Manhattan and is now asking my childhood friend who is visiting us this weekend from NYC to bring up some Asian staples as she plans on cooking some Korean foods….let us home she doesn’t burn the house down! I will tell her about The Bitten Word.
Well done! I remember saying pretty much every day years ago “I’m going for my run”, but these days it’s “I’m going for a job”, and only on the weekends 😉
Hurray for getting the run done!
It’s a Guerlain day for me. I used the stunning limited-edition Terracotta bronzer from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale for the first time this morning along with Guerlain mascara. Neroli Outrenoir is my perfume. Wearing my black mules, rag and bone olive green slacks, and a black lacy top.
You smell and look fantastic!
Second that!
I’m not familiar with that Guerlain, but your outfit sounds beautiful!
Ooh, I’ve seen a picture of that bronzer, it’s gorgeous. You look and smell great!
Lovely inside and out.
I saw that beautiful bronzer but did not give in to the desire.
I bow to your all-over chic.????
Good morning Y’all….
Wearing ELdO Fils de Dieu today, and enjoying it immensely! Good stuff!
Yesterday I had an apt in downtown Atlanta, so I took advantage and went perfume sniffing at Neiman’s and Saks. WOW!! I smelled By Killian, Byredo, Agonist, and all kinds of things I don’t normally have access to. The reps were all STINGY with samples, despite me saying that I’d never buy a bottle without sampling it first. Anyhoo…my favorite from yesterday was MFK’s Baccarat 540 Extrait. BEAUTIFUL! $425 though? Never gonna happen….. 🙂
lordie, I remember the days when you would walk into a dept store and the SAs (or perfume models as they used to call them) would practically throw a bunch of samples at you, knowing that if you liked one you would be back to purchase full bottles. I think having samples for sale online has put an end to that.
and, my dear, you get a HUGE enabler pin for steering me towards PHLUR fragrances! Have been loving Olmsted & Vaux due to the numerous compliments I have received while wearing it…such a perfect citrus summer scent with creamy undertones!
and you know, who needs to spend 425 when there are so many other fantastic fragrances out there, right?
Mmmm Fils de Dieu is so much fun! You smell great.
Agree! I can’t understand why samples are often difficult to come by. Yesterday at Saks I was graciously offered a handmade sample at the Dior counter. Highlight of my shopping trip. 🙂
And that is how it should be! When i mentioned to the Tom Ford SA in SFA in NYC that some stores do allow you to make your own samples and even provide you with empty vials he looked at me as if I had two heads!
Using up the last teeny, tiny bit of Borneo. Sigh.
When I am finally employed again, a bell jar is on my list.
I have like .5ml left of my sample ???? You smell great!
It started out cool this am so chose Geisha Vanilla Hinoki for today.
Speaking of waffles, we ate at a place in Bushwick, Brooklyn last Friday called the Arrogant Swine which is pulled pork, smoked pig of all kinds housed in a huge old wearhouse or car garage. Their “thing”, though, is mac n cheese which is then pressed in a waffle iron and served with a spicy cheese dip. What will they think of next!? For dessert we shared the sweet potato waffle with some sort of spiced, buttery maple syrup. Fun!
Wow! That sounds delicious! Must have made it crispy, which is the part of love most. I wonder if that mac & cheese take out place is still around. All they sell is variations on the mac & cheese theme.
Yes, it was like eating the crispy corners.
S’mac? The East Village one is now in a larger space! And there’s that little kiosk in that little park right outside the F on Houston and 1st Ave and a Murray Hill one.
Oh my lordie you are making me hungry 🙂
Just out of curiosity….have you ever been to Chinatown in Flushing? (it has been 21 years since I have been to Flushing( Younger family member wants to go(for the food and Asian products including beauty/healthcare) and I am thinking of taking her there in the winter for a milestone bday…is it safe to travel on the no 7 train to get there? any recommendations for where to go? and how close is it to the train station?
Thanks if you know 🙂 or anyone else who wants to chime in….
I haven’t been out there in a while but this might help. I’ve eaten at Biang before, and it’s really good and satisfying except for the reflux, lol. It’s oily and spicy noodles with different meats, mostly.
And the 7 train is totally fine and always populated.
https://ny.eater.com/maps/where-to-eat-in-flushings-chinatown
Om gosh, thank you so much! I just passed on both links to her…you have convinced me to make the trip with her…don’t know why I was worried but I just wanted to make sure that nothing had changed since I last took the 7…I guess it is always good to be cautious and inquiring!
Well, 21 years ago not everywhere was safe. But I lived off the 7 for a couple years recently and also take it out to Mets games. Never any problems EXCEPT there were 2 winters where they were doing track work so it wasn’t going to Manhattan on many weekends! It was a royal drag. So might be good to check the MTA website shortly before you plan to see whether there’s full service from Manhattan to Flushing.
Don’t know much about Asian beaity shops but this place is hugely popular if you’re into day spas-hot baths, steam, saunas etc and they usually have Groupons for it-it’s not fancy/new agey. It’s not right off the 7-requires additional bus ride. I think they also have a shuttle bus from somewhere.
https://ny.spacastleusa.com/
Wow this looks nice! it ‘s in College Point and requires a shuttle bus so not sure it is something we could do in a day trip as we would have to get back to GCT..but keeping it for future reference!
It’s a whole day project so doesn’t leave time for much else.
I was just in Chinatown, Flushing last month because my dentist referred me to an endodontis in that area for a root canal (she was excellent!). As you know is very populated and I would say is safe. I have been there a couple of times and I usually get vegetables and fruits from supermarkets in the area. I have not eaten in any restaurant, but people say the food is pretty good. I have not paid attention to stores names since I move very fast. Just grab and go. I cannot stand the crowds. I take the 7 train frequently to get to work, sometimes even late at night to connect with the E or F train to reach home and also when we attend the US Open and no problems at all. You should be ok!
Thanks perfumelover 67! I practically lived on the 7 train for the early part of my life but I know how the city is constantly changing (I remember what Long Island City was like in the early 1980s!) so I did not want to put younger family member in an unsafe situation…but it sounds great and definitely doable! She did all the research herself after her visit to Koreatown in NYC but did ask me if Flushing was safe as she is aware that certain areas of NY are not. I think we will definitely explore when we can get down there….probably around her bday!
I work in LIC and you have already seen the huge changes. It is now among the very expensive areas in the city. Few, but very nice restaurants and small stores. The promenade is gorgeous. There are plans for big commercial projects with supermarkets big retail stores, etc. A good area to explore…
that would/could be another day trip for sure!!! I am surprised that it actually took that long to gentrify given the spectacular views of the NY Skyline…that must be amazing to work there! you get the views all the time 🙂
I saw The Arrogant Swine on a TV show! How cool that you were able to get there.
Cyphre Pallatin (sp?)
Chypre Pallatin 🙂
Chypre Palatin. 🙂
HA HA, thank you!
I tried that for the first time in the past month or two.
I enjoyed it and happily finish the decant but somehow it didn’t wow me.
I’m wearing SL Fleurs d’Oranger today. But I’ve developed a sinus headache, and I’m not sure the perfume is helping any.
Hoping Harvey won’t hit us too hard. If there is anybody in the Corpus Christi area, stay safe. The gas station up the street from my office had a line out into the street this morning.
Take care and stay safe!
Thanks!
Good luck!
Ugh on the sinus headache. That’s the last thing you need right now.
🙁
Stay safe, sweetgrass!
I’m in Voyage d’Hermes edt today, making last minute arrangements for Harvey. It’s been awhile since we’ve had a big storm and I’m not looking forward to it. ????
Stay safe!
Thanks, Elisa P.! Hunkering down with the hubby and pupster. .
Good luck.
Thanks, pl67.
Fingers crossed for you.
Thanks, Jalapeno.
Dzing! for my first day of teaching this semester. I guess there’s the old book aspect, too, which suits a back to school theme.
You smell great! Have a good day!
Thank you! I did have a nice day.
I am in testing mode today, too. Fumerie is having a swap next week and so I’m trying Molinard Ambre. I got this in a swap and I am realizing that I don’t care for amber as the centerpiece of a perfume. Etro Ambre is already listed for the swap and I am selling my Alahine parfum. So far I get a whopping lavender note from Ambre, and a fair bit of powder.
Hey, National Waffle Day? I unknowingly participated this morning, as I had a Belgian waffle (which, I must admit, was practically drowned in syrup).
Inspired by mayfly yesterday, I’m wearing AG Quel Amour! today. Looking forward to reading everyone’s back-to-school choices tomorrow.
Waffles! I don’t think I will meet one tomorrow!
Hello, NST. No back to school connection for me–I’m in No. 22, and loving it all over again. It’s the prettiest, girliest thing, all soft tones and airy floating ribbons of flowers and sandalwood. I chose it today for its uncomplicated loveliness, because at three o’clock we’re going to collect Dakkie’s ashes, and I find I don’t want “interesting” or “edgy” or animalic or anything even slightly difficult or cerebral. “Pretty” will do just fine.
Alexander is racing around with one of my socks in his mouth. He has mastered the art of clambering into the laundry basket even though it has a lid, and he emerges in triumph with his prey. I don’t mind his towing the sock around and killing it thoroughly from time to time, but I drew the line when he “captured” a bra a couple of days ago. Of the three littles, it is Titus who notices perfume the most. He loves all sandalwood scents, and strops against my wrist and dribbles when I wear them. He seems to quite like leather too, but definitely doesn’t care for citrus. I suppose the thing about citrus was predictable. They all LOVE pegs, quite the favourite toy, so hanging out the washing might be a trial this weekend because almost every peg I own has been captured after vigorous pursuit, subdued and put into captivity under the fridge. Another weekend job: shift the fridge and liberate the pegs. I definitely haven’t got enough left to hang out a single small load of laundry.
Must beetle off: some marking awaits me, and other thrills no doubt. Be well, all.
Sounds like you’ve got some ferocious little laundry hunters on your hands. 😀 My cats just see the laundry basket as another thing to sleep in.
I love hearing the stories of your little fuzzies! It sounds like it may take a while for the “kitten crazies” to dampen off with this bunch.
I wore 22 from a sample for a big meeting last spring and when it went well – helped get a dear friend and colleague job security – I bought a bottle. It and Misia are my ‘I’m a grown up’ mojo now.
RIP Dakkie.
You smell lovely. I hope it did the trick.
Please keep the kitten stories coming!
Oh no, waterdragon. I haven’t been reading all the way through the SOTD comments recently, and missed Dakkie’s death. I’m so sorry; my condolences. RIP, Dakkie. I’ll miss you.
I just spent some time reading through your posts over the past 1.5 weeks to figure out the story. I’m so, so sorry for your loss, and so happy you have three boisterous kittens to keep you intact. The death of any pet is a blow, and it’s always sad when someone loses a pet on NST, but your stories made me fall in love with Dakkie, and his death is probably the first on NST to make me cry. Hug those kittens extra-tight tonight for me, please.
I cried too. I think a lot of us did.
Waft on, No.22. I would have equated it with No. 2 pencils for back to school association 🙂
Sending hugs to you WD (and kisses to your new little loves.)
Misia EDT today.
I initially didn’t think that much of this one but with subsequent wearings I find it stunning.
Haven’t tried the EDP but would like to compare it.
I have not tried the EdP either, but the EdT is beautiful. It will come out from hidding when fall arrives.
Love it.
I wear the edt frequently. I tried the edp recently and wasn’t paying a whole lot of attention but didn’t notice any major changes. (I think I might have noticed if there had been?)
I had the same experience with Misia.
How do you like your new job?
I’m working on finishing a decant of Bois Des Iles EDT and sprayed a copious amount this morning (6 big sprays). Wish I hadn’t been so stingy with it in the past as more is definitely more with this one.
More is more fits a number of Les Exclusifs. You smell nice!
Wearing Eau de Protection today for some liquid courage…it’s my last day at my job! I’m trying not to get sentimental about it…
…And for Monday, when I start my new job, I would love to wear it again, but I’m not sure that it’s enough of an office-friendly scent to wear when making a first impression. 🙂
Good luck on your new job!
*hugs* and you smell great 🙂
Good luck!
Good luck! I cried my last day at my previous job last week. I start my new job on the 5th and I am nervous! I am thinking of you and hope Monday goes wonderfully!
Episode 4 of Back to School. in episode 3, our hero stumbled across an old parchment with a clock key and the strange message “Sequere latrone MLXIX” – but what could “follow with a thief 1069 mean?
SOTD is Etat Libre d’Orange “Archives 69”. Our hero’s heart misses a beat as inspiration strikes – “but surely the M is misplaced? Sequere latronem LXIX – follow the thief 69. Of course, that makes no sense either…” – but his voice trails off. and he is bounding up the stairs to the library already. Because suddenly it does make sense. He’s admired the old stopped clock with the stern motto “Procrastination is the Thief of Time” since he got here. Right at the end of shelf 60 to 69 in the Archives. A minute’s winding with the long lost key and time, so long a prisoner, is set free with a sudden whirring of cogs and a breath of camphor. The hour strikes, a hidden drawer slides open, there is a glimpse of blueprints, old naval charts, ancient vials of curious spices and dried flowers…But as he reaches for them, he realises too late he is not alone. A tattooed hand clamps over his face, the smell of camphor flares… and darkness.
Top: mandarin, pink pepper CO2 and paprika;
Mid: incense, orchid and plum;
Base: musk, patchouli, benzoin and camphor.
This is an interesting scent, and I like it without loving it or wanting to own it.
I think you might be in the wrong profession Koenigsberg.
Today I’m back in Mousse de Chene from my Le Labo city exclusives sample box. It goes on as a sort of power scent but that calms way down and it is just pretty pretty. My brother and I went this afternoon with my mom to check out options for assisted vs. independent living in our area. There was a moment when she got teared up about it but on the whole she’s pretty stoic and determined. She keeps trying to give us stuff though or have us take things we want from her home. That’s painful! It made me worry about my own future and what the options will be like for me in 20 or 30 years. Many of my friends are now dealing with the pain of having a child leave for college, but this pain on the other side of life is also rather daunting. We are luckier than most in that she is well enough off to afford it (touch wood), but it’s still just so hard. I’m lobbying for the apartment vs. assisted living because if she has her own apartment she can get a cat!!
Oh, that is rough, what you are going through with your mom. Best wishes for that.
The best for your mom and you. Everything will come up fine.
So hard. But you smell great.
All the best to all of you as you collectively decide what is best.
The decisions you’re making are very difficult, but you are so fortunate that they can be made in a relatively relaxed way, and that you can take the time you need to be at peace with them.
I can say from hard experience that the way you’re going about it is vastly better than waiting until it’s an urgent situation, which is where we were with my mom a few years ago.
I’ll say a prayer for you and your family that you’ll be happy and secure with the decisions when you are ready to make them! ????
Fwiw, take as much as you are able from your mom. It will take a huge burden off her shoulders. My mom is probably the same age and she wants to find a “loving home” for the things she loves. Most likely, we’ll all be in that same situation in the future.
I’m doing a repeat SOTD in the hopes of finishing off another sample this week. SOTD = Miss Dior Eau Fraiche EdT. It turns out there was at least one more application in that vial.
To everyone who is potentially in Harvey’s path, I hope you all take care and stay safe!
I always feel such a sense of accomplishment from finishing off a sample haha
Memo L’eau today. I really really like the move from citrus to iris with a soft leathery feel along the way.
I am putting this on my Bergdorf buy list.
Have you tried it? It’s very nice, isn’t it?
Yep! I was afraid to try it thinking it would set me back a lot of $$$ but I am planning to spend enough to get a close to 20% discount on my purchases.
Good plan! I just wrote to Nancyleandros that I got it in the EU where it was less dear.
My Bergdorf’s list is growing too???? Have you seen the Barney’s bag? So good ????
Oh good grief. Second one going on my sample list today!
I think Lucas’s review, in which he suggested that it was wonderful but overpriced, is probably right, but it would be great in a decant or split. I got a bottle as I was in Europe for work and 1) it’s cheaper there and 2) it was a work-trip I’m exhausted splurge. Also, even though I tend not to like opaque bottles, this one is really pretty. Silly things.
Not so silly. Bottle appearance and performance is important! ????
Thanks for the perspective on the price. I’m glad you could get a bottle for a relatively reasonable price.
Whoo hoo! I can breathe through my nose again 🙂 Celebrating by wearing the divine Santal Majescule to work this chilly Friday morning.
P.S. Thanks for putting up with my whining about my cold over the last few days ; )
Glad you’re feeling better!
Back to school in Perfumery 101: Classics: Chanel No 19 spray cologne, worn this a.m. and now worn off.
Staying on theme with Testing. I’ve been craving fruitchoulis lately and pulling out everything I can think of that might qualify. Today is Gucci Guilty Black and Tokyo Milk Tainted Love. Both qualify but neither is scratching the itch. I remember Tainted Love being a silllage bomb but I’m not getting much from it – maybe because my sample is close to 10 years old? The Gucci has a massive presence, however.
Have you ever sampled Visa by Robert Piguet? It’s a fruitchouli bomb. I wear it as a sleep scent in the dead of winter.
Visa ????????
You smelled great in the 19! I like Guilty fairly well. Haven’t tried the Black though.
Would you like some Visa? It’s Angel’s illegitimate sister????
SOTD is Roma Imperiale. Or more correctly, was RI. Work is crazy busy so I haven’t had time to post. I hope everyone had a good day.
SotD = Geisha Vanilla Hinoki
GVH is both energizing and calming, a nice balance for a very busy Thursday.
I spent some time sniffing around the perfume counters yesterday. I was due to pick up family members at the airport, but their arrival was delayed. To pass the time I drove to the nearby shopping mall. I think it was Saks that had the Dior Privee line. The sweet SA offered to make me a sample. I hadn’t tried any of them so I guessed and asked for La Colle Noire. I like the association with the chateau, I think place-inspired scents are romantic. The scent is very pretty but nothing to write home about.
I also enjoyed a big spritz of Diorissimo edp on my arm. So beautiful, especially in the top notes. The shopping bag I had looped over that arm still smells nice today.
Anyway, busy Thursday begone! I’m looking forward to sitting down and reading everyone’s comments.
Busy Thursday be gone, indeed. I did not enjoy La Colle Noire when I first tried it but a second and third wearing convinced me that I should at least seek out a decant.
SOTD = Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir
Nice! On me, it smells like equal parts orange blossom and tobacco. It pretty much stays the same to me from beginning to end, moderate sillage and sticks around for anlong time. Of course it could. E. Ecause I used 10 spritzes from my 20 mL La Goutte Parfumee.
Commuting Woes No. 386:
I left the office late. It sucks that the late train was delayed by 15 minutes. And the train station was exuding Eau de Sh-t.
One day, I will do a Commuting Woes-Not when something good happens 🙂
Sooo glad you pointed me in the right direction to purchase one of those 20 ml sprays. A thousand thanks!
Lol “Eau de Sh-t”!
Ditto 🙂
My dear, your commuting woes are gold ???????? And you smell divine????
So late checking in, but I’m in Shalimar Light. Not remotely anything to do with school, but it’s just sooooo wonderful. I am enjoying reading everyone’s posts from earlier today!
I will be in Shalimar tomorrow, ready to meet that blasted Harvey. C’mon Harv, do your best.
Harvey is no match for Shalimar! But seriously, stay safe!
Robin, where did you get your coffret? I am very sad as the Cire Trudon US site is out of them. Boo.
They sent me samples. I wonder if they just haven’t come in yet?
