Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I am staying cheerful and bright with Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré. Posting will be light again today and I will start catching up tomorrow.
Reminder: 8/18 will be Fugly Friday. That's the opposite of bottle porn Friday...wear a perfume you own (or just like) despite the ugly bottle. Suggested by Nebbe.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Was thinking of wearing Eau de Neroli Dore this morning but in the end I decided on Anatole Lebreton Grimoire. This resinous, incensy lavender beauty felt more suitable for the fog we had this morning.
I’m going to have problems finding a perfume to match our community project tomorrow.
Me too. If a bottle’s unattractive, I just don’t buy it, however good the contents. I can’t think of a single bottle I own in any size that I would consider ugly, let alone fugly. I’ll have to give the collection a good hard stare and see if anything displeases me.
Same here…I tend to not buy fugly bottles
I think I might be able to dig out a decant of a perfume that originally comes in fugly bottles. If I really like the perfume but the bottle is dreadful, decants seem like a perfect solution 🙂
I tend to completely avoid perfumes in ugly bottles – don’t look at them, don’t sample them. That said, I have a few that I really dislike but not enough to get in the way of enjoying their contents.
I just couldn’t care less if the bottle is ugly, as long as the juice is good. That said, I do love really beautiful designs.
Such a great name/word, Grimoire!
Is the lavender soapy? Or more earthy?
I liked a few of the other Breton offerings. Forgot their names. One that was very green….and a musky/furry one.
Lavender is herbal, kind of medicinal here.
Grimoire means spell book in old french.
Hmm interesting, may give it a try then.
I am reading a book about the history of grimoires. Its fascinating.

Working my way through the Atelier Cologne sample palette, in order. Vanille Insensée has a surface resemblance to SL Un Bois Vanille but I found it cloying after a while (whereas UBV never is): a couple of spritzes of Clémentine California on top soon fixed that. Post-shower I decided to try Santal Carmin, and it may not be very carmine but it does has a wonderful raw-sandalwood smell that’s a big improvement over the puddingy synthetic woods that are in everything these days. (I mean, it may still be synthetic, but they’ve done a good job disguising it.)
House twins!!!!!
“Puddingy” is a great descriptor for that type of scent
Robin invented the term “wood pudding” (https://nstperfume.com/2017/01/24/5-perfumes-wood-pudding/) to refer to that increasingly large category of scents that meld wood, usually sandalwood or cedar, with a thick creamy-dairy quality that isn’t sweet enough to be gourmand. I think Javanol is the synthetic sandalwood that really highlights that creaminess you smell in everything nowadays (but I’ve never smelled it pure so I don’t know for certain).
My mom is a fan of Vanille Insensee
So am I!
Are you beginning to feel a bit better Robin? I love Néroli Doré, plus it comes in a beautiful bottle.
My SOTD is Fleurs des Comores by MPG, it’s a gorgeous scent but MPG has some of the ugliest bottles on the market. FdC sits somewhere between Vanilia and Songes.
I just got home, and luckily too busy to think about it right now! We said goodbye yesterday afternoon and my husband and I did have a lovely evening afterwards, helped along by good food and a few drinks — I have not cried yet, but I’m sure I will!
Thanks for asking, it’s been a hard couple days and now I will get back into routine and stop whining 🙂
And agree about MPG! I might still wear Jeune Homme tomorrow.
You are entitled to whine…it’s a big deal…..and you should be able to process it…..
I don’t have children but I get it. It’s tough to let go and not worry and not miss him. So I don’t think you are whining. I remember my mother was in tears when I left for France at 18, and she still had one child at home.
Thank you for the absolution, guys, it is appreciated!
Been there and done that, Robin. And you know what? It’s amazing how quickly you readjust. There will be some moping around days, but then you pick up and get on. My hubby and I used to joke that we joined the Darby and Joan club very young????
Thanks cassieflower. I am sure we will get there!
Hang in there, Mama Robin. Neroli Dore is lovely!
I’m wearing my last bit of Chamade edt — from a fugly sample, not from the gorgeous bottle, sadly…
I am, thanks!
And hey, good idea, I have some darned fugly decants!
I’m wearing Chanel Misia and drinking a cup of Earl Grey tea.
Yay for Neroli Dore to keep you cheerful and bright, Robin 🙂
great combo!
Tea twins!
Wearing Chanel 22 EDT today, despite the fact the bottle is just fine, because it is a great scent, and I adore it.
Have a fantastic day
Good for you, and hope your day is fantastic!
SOTD is Coqui Coqui Maderas, gone in the heat
I need to try that one.
SOTD is a copious spraying of L’Artisan Thé Pour un Ete from the new (but old style) bottle that arrived yesterday. It’s quite lovely on this warm, humid morning.
YUM.
Sampling Soivohle Journeyman which is more smoke than leather on me but oh is this gorgeous. This would be perfect on a cold November day (currently on an air conditioned bus so good enough)
Sounds wonderful!
Robin, you smell absolutely perfect.
I’m in Pacifica Sandalwood, again. So glad I made this impulse purchase as it’s become one of my favorites. I’d buy a backup, but Pacifica solids tend to last me such a long time that it would probably go rancid before I have the chance to use it.
I don’t think it would go rancid. I stocked up on solids of several d/c favorites years ago and they still smell good. I would stock up as the solids are now d/c.
I was finally able to get the top off my sample of Au Coeur du Desert. So that is what I’m wearing.
Thoughts? I really liked it but found it quite similar to LADDM.
I like it, but maybe it would be better for fall and winter, not summer in Texas. I have only worn LADDM once, so I might do a side by side comparison. As I understand it ACDD was intended to be a less intense version of LADDM.
Trying out NVC Rahele today thanks to Petunia. Liking it more than I thought I would-I think I imagined it would be sweeter and more bland but it’s really lovely. Reminds me both of vintage fruity chypres and elements of Bottega Veneta, especially in the drydown.
I didn’t expect to like it, but was pleasantly surprised by Rahele, too. You smell lovely!
Thanks! I heard mixed impressions but I’m in the like camp.
I really liked Rahele. I think you smell great.
Gracias! And I can still smell it!
Rahele is really good! Hope to have it in collection one day, it would keep the company of Bombay Bling and Ashoka
I could see owning this one.
I find it an easy scent to wear. Glad you are enjoying it.
Easy but not boring. Thanks for sending it to me ???? I might wear it to an upcoming wedding. I think it would be a good choice.
The first time I wore Rahele, I thought it was pretty but it wasn’t love. The second time, it grew on me. It was surprising because I usually know if It’s love pretty quickly. I find it very elegant and the drydown is beautiful.
Funny that you mentioned BV. For me, Calypso is a super soft version of BV or they share some similarity. You may be onto something… BTW, I found a 30 ml bottle of Calypso so I bought it, so thanks to you as well! ????
30ml? Where’d you find that?! So happy you like it 🙂
I’m sampling DSH French Lily which initially smells much more like jasmine.
So many fragrances turn out that way!
I’ve got two straight days of “pre-semester” meetings on my calendar – you know, the kind of administrative meetings where there are doughnuts and lukewarm coffee for breakfast, then some sort of address from management, then sad-sack wraps for lunch, then less-than-useful break-out sessions, then department meetings, etc. I think I’m going to go with Jaisalmer, for the calm. 🙂
That’s some dystopian non-fiction right there. Love Jaisalmer and hope it gets you through.
Ha!
Yikes! Sounds like a fork in the eye would be less painful! Try for internal Zen chants amidst all the blather✌????
You had me at sad-sack. ????
Testing out a sample of Mon Guerlain that I got with a Sephora order. It’s cloyingly sweet and unoriginal. Even my husband said it smelled like “mall perfume.” Disappointing, but at least it’s not that bad once you get through the sweetness.
MG is not ground-breaking, to be sure. Nice enough, though I agree on some days it is too sweet for me. I picked it up with rewards points from Sephora too!
Mall perfume sums it up. Not offensive, but pass.
Is it big on you? I spritzed one SMALL spray on my forearm a couple of weeks ago and it hounded me for hours- it just seemed like a huge cloud of …well, kind of like the Dark Mark in the sky a lá Harry Potter????
MG is definitely persistent on me, but it’s not incredibly big or heavy. Still super sweet and a little soapy after all these hours, though!
Same here with the bigness. I am thiscloselytempted to buy the Mon Guerlain shower gel but you may have effectively dissuaded me from doing so.
I also got an (un-asked-for) MG sample with a Sephora order.
If anybody wants it, reply to this comment with your email address!
Inflicting Nahema on my coworkers today and got a compliment from a customer today.
Good for you on both counts!
Yay!
SotD is Dryad, from a sample (almost empty now….).
It works great as an office scent for me. Its quiet but interesting. And it dies at the end of my work day.
So when i come home i can easily spray on something bold and loud 🙂 haha.
I have not tried Dryad yet. Even samples cannot be shipped outside of UK.
I bought mine at parfumaria.com, a dutch online store that ships world wide – if I recall correctly And they have an english site as well. (No affiliation).
If I decide on a bottle I can send you a sample. You are in EU mainland, right? I’ll keep you updated….
But at the moment I am a bit tight on money. I ordered too many samples. Hahaha argh. Need to find a dutch or european community for swapping I guess, but on the other hand i am quite busy already and I need to focus more on other non-perfume stuff.
Correct, I’m in Poland.
You might want to check parfumo.net.
It’s perfume database + forum + it lets you swap and participate in splits. Most people are from Germany there though, if it’s not a problem for you
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check it out.
I really like Dryad and it’s not that mild on me. I actually like all other four of the Papillion perfumes as well.
Today I’m wearing Rodin No. 3…perfect for a hot day.
Papillon is great brand!
I tried Anubis and Salome last year. They are both great.
As for Dryad being mild/quiet. I had two sprays from a sample vial, so maybe that impacts sillage and longevity…
Also, i sampled a few bold scents this week, this could mess wih my perspective on what is mild. 😉
I’m hoping someone will do a split of Salome…
I’d also like to try the others. I have a sample set at Twisted Lily in my cart right now but the 20% discount doesn’t apply. *hems/haws*
Want me to talk you out of it? DON’T DO IT !!!! There will be another sale with percentage off 🙂
Twins! I sampled Dryad today, as well. It’s also relatively quiet on me but has had pretty good longevity.
And speaking of the Twisted Lily sale…Donatella, I have sinned. I begged my husband for an early birthday present and bought a FB of Dryad, so yep, I love it very much 🙂 I didn’t use the whole sample before making up my mind so I’ll save it for the freebiemeet!
My half-birthday is coming up…
Oh I like where this is going. Surely half birthdays and quarter birthdays are worthy of celebration!! I actually remember as a kid my mom would sometimes make us “un-birthday” cakes, just because ????
Wearing Femininite du Bois from my new FB. Liking it as a summer- into-fall transitional fragrance. Wish I’d sprayed more heavily but tomorrow is another day!
Off topic: Any curly girls have insights they can share with a newbie? My hair has undergone a transformation over the past few months. After a lifetime of straight hair – it now wants to be curly. What?! I’ve been reading up on how to work with it but there’s so much information (and products) out there, it’s overwhelming.
I do have some tips and products I use. My hair is naturally curly, and though I straighten it often, I do wear it curly a lot. I wash and then comb it out. I add a little styling cream (I am using the one in the link below, I think it’s great; Robin, I don’t know how to make the link shorter or prettier lol)- maybe a dime size amount, and then also just a small amount of mousse of some sort (I’m currently using Aveda Phomollient). I flip over and dry with a diffuser.
http://www.sephora.com/coconut-moringa-oils-humidity-block-curl-gel-P407181 skuId=1807288&icid2=mcjw_lp_bestof_carousel:p407181
Welcome to the club! My hair also changed from straight to curly back in my adolescence. My biggest tip would be treat those curls delicately, don’t overcleanse and trying to keep moisture in is key. I like some of the DevaCurl stuff (no-poo & curl cream). Lots of good tips on the interwebs…
Have fun with your new curls.
Yes on the moisture and not over cleaning!
Yessing as well, and will add that the “curly girl” movement (you can google for tips) helped me to transition from frizz to coiled spirals when I had long hair. I have a huge long list of things I did to take care of it, reflecting the ridiculous amount of time I spent on it. (It’s short now and I currently wear it straight.)
Brief recap of the game-changers:
– Stop using shampoo. Use a cleansing conditioner (or regular conditioner to wash.) This also means you have to stop using silicone-based products.
-Don’t rinse your hair under the shower head. Put a plastic container in the shower and pour water over your head gently instead, massaging the conditioner out.
-Don’t use towels on your hair. Use a pillowcase or t-shirt. And don’t let either touch your head until you’ve loaded it up with product. I did the LOC method (leave-in, oil, cream,) pinned the curls on my crown, then gently wrapped my hair with a pillowcase. It looked best if I slept on it that way, letting it dry overnight.
-If you do dry it, use a diffuser. Gently place your locks into the diffuser, then smash it into your head. Do this all over until it’s dry. Don’t move blowing air around your head – it causes frizz.
-Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase.
Have fun! 😉
Yessss on the cleansing conditioner!
What finally worked for my curly hair was getting long layers. Don’t let anyone talk you into “thinning” that only causes more frizz
Also, don’t wash it so much. I wash mine twice a week. Once you’ve added any product, try to not touch or retouch your hair.
My hair is an awful combination of wavy in some places and straight in others. When I want to wear it wavy, I’ve had some luck with using a very wide-toothed comb to comb it out in the shower (no combing after that), drying with a microfiber headwrap, LOC method, then an “air-dry” styling cream (I think the one I got is L’Oreal).
I’m exhausted reading through this. I will never complain about having straight hair. Good luck Luna Green.
LOL!!!!
I’m in 10 Corso Como today. Smells great, but unlike many on here, I am NOT a fan of the bottle lol.
I know you all are sick of hearing about my move, but y’all seriously….I am so tired. Trying to wrap up work and real estate deals (I work in government contracting and am also a real estate agent) is starting to wear me down. BUT, tomorrow is my last day at my current employer (where I’ve been for 7 years) and they are having a going away party for me today. I have all next week off to run errands and such, then we leave the following week.
The good news is: I already have a job in New Mexico! I got an offer yesterday! I never expected to find one so fast, so I am thrilled. 😀
You smell great! Have you ever seen the 20th anniversary bottle- I love that one.
Enjoy your party and congrats on the new job. Moving is so stressful but it sounds like things are falling into place.????
I have! I know this is absolutely absurd, but I think there’s something about the font and the red top I don’t like haha.
Best of luck with everything 🙂
Congrats on the new job!
How exciting and exhausting! The whole house selling drama is one of the reasons I have not sold mine yet. Dreading all BS that goes along with selling and dismantling a house. Hope your new job is a dream! May your co-workers be fellow perfumies! ????????
Hey, congrats! Good for you!
Congrats on the job offer and hope the move goes smoothly!
How exciting, good for you!!
Congrats! With work wrapping up soon, and a new job waiting for you, all the rest is a cake walk, right? 😉
No need to apologize – that kind of major life change is extremely trying and exhausting – physically, mentally, emotionally. Assume that there will be months of exhausting transitioning once the move is made, too. Treat yourself well, and congrats on the job!
Congrats on your new job! And lets hope you can leave the real estate stress behind you very quickly.
All the best for this new chapter in life 🙂
Congrats on the job offer! I would say that you aren’t kvetching about your upcoming move… I have heard that they are one of the most stressful life events a person can experience. So best of luck in navigating that.
How exciting! Congratulations!
Adding my congrats! That’s fantastic.
Congratulations, KellyC!
Congrats on the job…how wonderful. Enjoy the goodbye party. I still owe you some Shalimar Mexique (forget the real name) and I shall ship it to your new, closer address! ????
Congratulations on things working out so well. 🙂
I think living in different parts of the country and world is a worthwhile experience, worth the challenges of moving home and career. New Mexico is a wonderful place.
Testing Atelier Clementine California on one wrist and Atelier Citrus d”Erable on the other…liking them both…..nothing fugly about them or the bottles ( I happen to like the simple aesthetics of the Atelier bottles).
It is this one-
http://www.sephora.com/citron-derable-cologne-absolue-P409994
and I am really loving the maple syrup accord!
House twins! I like the fact that the bottle has a sprayer that unscrews, it would be very convenient for a split.
Agreed…we have the 6.8 oz of Orange Sanguine at home and I cannot begin to tell you how many decants I made of that one for six perfume wearing family members 🙂 Very very easy to decant….
I absolutely love Clementine California, using it a lot this summer. Didn’t try Citron d’Erable though.
I thought of you when I put it on as I remembered you are a fan…I think you would like Citron too.
I just found out my “big” Sephora has Cafe Tuberosa in. I will try and check it out this weekend.
oOO..exciting!!! Please tell us what you think…I am on the hunt for a good coffee scent 🙂
I have a sample of Cafe Tuberosa on a way to me.
so then I look forward to your future review 🙂
I can’t wait to hear your opinion on it!
Rain before 7, done by 11. My dad has said this for years and it holds true about 90% of the time. I was awake at 3 am and there was a gentle rain falling. It’s cleared and now the sun is peeking through. There’s still about 85% humidity in the air so it’s a perfect day for Atelier Bois Blonds.
I don’t have any fugly bottles in my small collection, so I think I will fail at this project.????
House twins and we smell great -LOL!
You smell great! Your dad’s wise saying holds true for the whole Great Lakes region, I think 🙂
Good morning Y’all…..
Perfume Grinch is off for a few days, so taking advantage with some stronger scents… hee hee….
Wearing Vera Wang Periwinkle and Iris….a bit of a sugar bomb…but I was in the mood for something sugary! 🙂
Sometimes sugary is just the right thing. 😉
Love me some sugar…smellin’ good, Jada!
Perfume Grinch makes me laugh every time! Love it.
Morning, all. I’m having a sleepless night, worrying about Dakkie. I can’t help him by worrying, but I can’t stop myself. I love that cat a great deal, and his suffering is painful to watch. Crunch time is 6 p.m. tonight, for blunderbuss treatment: more antibiotics, steroids, vitamins, the whole caboodle. Then we wait and hope. Thank you all so much for your kind words yesterday. I wanted to reply, but between vets and students and sone mere but urgent STUFF, I just never got back to NST.
It’s only 3 a.m. here, so I haven’t showered or dressed yet, but I am in the last remnants of Loukhoum, which I sprayed on my wrists as I went to bed. I used to adore this, but for the last few wears, it’s reminded me of a generic scented candle, which I am sure is not the effect that was sought by the perfumer. It makes me want to spray liberally with Cristalle, Assam of India, Narcisse Bleu, 4711–any, all– to counter the cloying creaminess. I hope I grow to like it again eventually., or it will be relegated to the bottom shelf as one of my more expensive mistakes.
It’s my Friday, and I’ve been wondering all week what to do about the project. I haven’t got any perfumes in really ugly bottles, but I have got the original Omnia, which isn’t ugly, exactly, but is annoying and pointlessly complicated and awkward, and therefore silly. I think I’ll submit “silly” instead of ugly, and wear the pretty perfume in the irritating container. Hope that gets me some points for effort!
Be well, all
Poor, dear, Dakkie!!! You and he have been through so much this year. Best wishes for his recovery and for your continuing fortitude.
Ditto! My heart aches for little Dakkie and his mom…. hoping this evening shows big improvement.
Sending healing thoughts out to Dakkie, and hugs out to you Waterdragon.
Oh poor Dakkie cat! Hope he’s feeling better soon!
I hope Dakkie gets better soon!
I must have missed this! Sending healing wishes to dear little Dakkie.
Hope things go well with Dakkie’s treatment today. Good luck.
I’ve been eying an Omnia bottle as well–can’t pretentiousness be fugly? Very sorry for your heartache over Dakkie and hoping that you both weather the storm.
So sorry to hear about Dakkies misfortunes- hope he’s better soon.
Is this latest treatment of Dakkie’s one time, or is it going to be an ongoing regimen? I hope that it’s a one-shot for both your sakes.
Hoping that Dakkie is feeling better very soon.
Wearing Heliotropia again from a decant from a lovely and most generous NSTer. <3
I keep reaching for this, I find it to be so effortless and I don't have to think about it, I keep craving it and Velvet Haze, even though I don't really think there's anything too special or unique about either, I just like them!
Sometimes that is enough!
Yay, so glad Heliotropia is a success for you!
Today ‘Fille en Aiguilles’ by Serge Lutens.
You smell great!
I’m wearing Lou Lou at the moment. I think I might wear Gucci Rush to work though. Still no resolution with the awful stupid thing I’m going through, and Rush, being one of my bad ass scents feels more appropriate. I don’t think either of these bottles are ugly but I really don’t care for the plastic.
Love Lou Lou but also love Rush…and it might qualify for fugly bottle although I have to say perhaps dysfunctional might be a better word…several years ago my full size bottle at the time started leaking rather than spraying and it had been left on my desk at work overnight…when I came in the next morning it was all over my desk and at the time I shared an office with a perfume grinch…needless to say she had a FIT at the scent (“stench” is what she called it) that was coming from my side of the room..I did not feel too bad as she was an overall not nice person 😉
I do find the sprayer annoying. Rush is the only bottle I have a back up of though, there really is nothing like it.
Agreed 🙂
Those are 2 bottles that I love, though I have the “genie” bottle of Lou Lou, not the obelisk-ish one.
Wait…there were two different bottles? the one I remember was light blue with a dark red cap….
Yes, kpaint has the pretty one.
Is that one a dabber bottle? I have only seen it in mini form.
Yes, mini dabber, though I think they made larger bottles like it at one point?
Wearing SL Vitiver Oriental from a decant (thanks LisaD!). Wore Bolshevixen by SmellBent to bed last night and liked it so much I went to the SmellBent site and bought a bunch of 4ml spray samples of available scents. Sadly, Bolshevixen must be discontinued since I didn’t see it on the site.
True Confession: I had to buy a pair of jeans in a bigger size yesterday☹️So disappointed in myself! So, I’m going to pick up a bike and get my A$$ in gear! I’m looking at buying one of those pet trailers for T-Rex (Yes, I will be that woman!). I can train her to trot with me for a bit but it’s too hot to expect her to keep up with me for miles. It has one of those bright orange flags that sticks up in the back! Lordy, who’d a thought me and my younger bad A$$ mountain biking, curb hopping self would be relegated to a “comfort” bike with a dog trailer!!
I haven’t been on a bike in a long time. I started spin classes after the last time I crashed and burned, which resulted in a retinal detachment and 4 surgeries to save my vision in that eye. I’m I a little nervous????
I find it’s not just weight, it’s stuff shifting around as the body ages. It’s hard to find stuff that fits well! I’m with you as far as kicking it into gear. It’s only going to get harder and seeing my parents this week huff & puff getting up stares made me more determined to stay fit.
I know exactly what you mean- just came back from the post office and there was an elderly (60’s-ish) couple that were huffing and puffing like a freight train. They walked from their vehicle to the counter, probably less than 50 steps, and they were both grunting and blowing like Old Faithful. I really hope they had a rescue inhaler and o2 in the car…
Oh, boy. Not good.
Time the Avenger.
Nervous is productive, it makes me THINK about what I’m doing, and what I hope to achieve.
Rock on, Deva !
😉
I don’t know about rockin’ but rollin’ is definitely a possibility????
Thanks for your optimism and encouragement!
Hey, Deva! Glad you like the Bolshvixen – I am a fan of Smell Bent, a house that tends to have interesting and highly affordable scents.
Ha! Thanks again! I did a wee bit-o-damage on their website. Also, just sent you an email-Cheers!
Best of luck getting back on a bike! I haven’t been on one in ages… no safe places to ride where I live. Bikes and aggressive/careless drivers are a bad combination.
I’m wearing Un Jardin Sur le Nil today, from a sample that happened to be the first thing I saw on my dresser this morning. It’s nice enough.. don’t think I’d feel the need for a bottle..
Well I think you smell fantastic, but congrats on not needing another bottle!
Back at work! And glad it’s Thursday! 🙂
SOTD: Cuir de Lancome
PS. Anyone know what the new Tauer Flash scent is? I ordered a copy of his latest magazine which comes with a sample of this new scent. I also ordered a bar of the tuberose soap. Can’t wait to get my package!
I really enjoyed the soap I got a couple of months back- super lather????
Great! I love a good lathering soap.
My “Summer of Gi” officially starts today (after entertaining family for a week). Four glorious weeks of total freedom before I start my new job and I’m so excited!
Vetiver Fatal for today. Not exactly fugly but the Atelier bottles do seem very utilitarian to my eye.
Ha! another house twin…and I happen to like the simplicity of the Atelier bottles…the 6.8 oz one is thick glass and feels massive in my tiny hands and i like that .
I only have a tiny 30 ml bottle. Kind of cute as all little things seem to be but maybe the cap & label seem disproportionate?
Oh yes, there is a big difference (at least to me!) between the 30ml bottles and the 200 ml bottles….even the caps are different.
ENJOY the Summer of Gi!
Thanks SunnyDay! ????????
Oh, a whole month of freedom!! Enjoy every moment of it✌????
Nice! I hope the 4 weeks go nice and slowwww for you.
4 weeks, wow. That is awesome. Enjoy!
Enjoy! Love Vetiver Fatal.
Your “Summer of Gi” sounds fantastic!
Enjoy Gi time!
SotM = Masque Milano Montecristo
This one I’ll call my scent of the morning because I’m not sure I can wear it all day. I sniffed the vial, then spritzed a bit, and my first thought was “wow, animals!” No barnyard aromas, rather it’s the smell of an animal’s den, very woody and aromatic, not dirty though not quite clean either.
Intriguing, and I dare say sexy. The name makes me think of pirates. Aye, if I were a pirate I’d wear Montecristo.
Now I want to try Montecristo! So far I haven’t found anything I like from Masque Milano.
I hope you will get to sniff Montecristo. The Masque Milano scents have strong personality. They’re either a hard no or a big yes for me. I like Romanza the best so far and will wear it again.
I’m in 9 sprays of Le Galion Iris today, (from their mini bottle). Very nice, but I have many “nice” fragrances, I guess a lot of florals, and I want to round out my collection with something different. Any suggestions?
We decided last minute To go to the Tom Petty concert tonight. I plan on wearing Bendelirious!
I am a huge Tom Petty fan but have never seen him in concert…he will be amazing I am sure…have a great time!
Oh I love Tom Petty. Great sing a long songs. Never seen him myself but I bet the concert will be awesome.
An overcast morning here so I wanted something cheerful and sunny. Jour d’Hermes fits the bill.
Insofar as owning fugly bottles, I find they aren’t so much fugly as uninspired. Like the Piguet black bottles, the old Nicolai square bottles, even Malle’s bottles–I find them boring. Lou Lou’s burgundy and turquoise color scheme is odd but not fugly. The only bottle I own that makes me want to tear my hair out isn’t fugly but infuriating, so I’ll save it for tomorrow.
Yum. I might wear that tonight.
SOTD is D&G Dolce, a go-to for something that’s not overpowering in the heat.
What the heck am I gonna wear tomorrow? Must think about my bottles…
Dolce is a beautiful bottle!
I agree! I love the little bow and the ‘marzipan’ flower. I think the 50ml bottle is perfect: the cap-to-bottle size ratio looks the best.
Fugly Friday here and oh how I loathe the cheap metallic silver plastic on Angel Muse. Should have been named Angel’R’Us as it reminds me as half the outer-space cowboy/warrior/fighter junk that littered the floor here ten years ago. Or ‘Angels and Cream’ for the sex-toy , battery operated self-pleasure object associations. Poorly fitted plastic caps score high on my most hated list (Ostara), big clunks of bottles are a no-buy (omnia)… But angel muse silver plastic ugh…must prise off. And Plum take that smirk off your face…that ridiculously heavy big brass ball you call a cap….
Oh, that cap is plastic? *tsk tsk* I have a mini and hate the cap as well. I always forget which way it opens.
Oh I so agree with you.
I hate poorly fitted plastic caps. And weird shapes are a NO NO as well. I wanted to try the Omnia in a store once and I almost dropped it.
I vote we start calling Muse Angels and Cream! So perfect. Anyone else with me? Lol
Battery not included!
It’s hard to not end up with a plastic lid, though, isn’t it? But the poorly-fitting ones are so annoying. They really can look horrible that way, too.
Have been testing Ineke’s alphabet series, but not in order. Today it’s Field Notes from Paris. The name is apropos, and I like the grassy scent. Don’t expect it to stay with me long, though. The tiny boxes in this set of 8 are lovely, and each little sample is rolled into a bright piece of tissue. Charming.
Ooh, I’ve been wanting to try that one. Too bad it won’t stick around.
A dreary gray day here, and I am in vintage Jolie Madame, another one where whenever I wear it I’m like “why don’t I wear this every day again?” This particular bottle is a miniature gold rectangle and for some reason the top notes smell like lavender instead of violet to me… but the drydown is pure JM and in its 7th hour now it seems to just keep getting better.
Yum! Love JM! You smell gorgeous!
You do smell fantastic.. I should find my bottle. Such an amazing scent!
Not participating again, this time in Bois des Iles edp. The opening is less sweet; the drydown is heavier and richer, and I finished off the (half-full) decant I got from the Chanel counter and will need more. *sigh*
You smell amazing!
SOTD is Carthusia “Mediterraneo”.
Top: mint, lemon, litsea cubeba, eucalyptus, thyme and bergamot;
Mid: jasmine, cardamom, wild flowers and mandarin;
Base: musk.
Very nice and fresh. Performance poor to indifferent. Very tired today after “ein Bier” somehow turned into “viel Wein”. :^s
wine and beer? you are having too much fun 😉
Started the day with Knowing EDP, which a friend wears and I wanted to get another bottle. It’s a great perfume. Received my Chinatown today. Not what I expected; fruity but a good fruity. Smells “pink” – it’s a definite thumbs up and a great blind buy!
Good news on the blind buy 🙂
and that bottle is gorgeous……
Thank you!! After reading yours and Regina’s comments about Chinatown, I felt fine as this blind but. It’s a tester without the cap, and yes that bottle is very nice. Love the pink and white.
BUY*
I like ‘blind but” better 🙂
Giving my sample of Zoologist’s Dragonfly another spin on the dance floor. It went onto my wishlist after the first test drive, but today I’m thinking it’s sadly a no-go. While I love some of its smoother notes (rice, musk, iris, heliotrope, sandalwood….gorgeous), today the often problematic peony note is going its usual shrill direction on me, lending a sharpness on top of the soft base that was more prominent the other day. That darn peony doesn’t seem to be dissipating in the late drydown, which makes me sad, as it’s an otherwise lovely scent. Why is it that one of my favorite flowers is always a disaster when rendered as a perfume note 🙁 Boo.
I totally feel your pain about peonies!! So amazing in real life but in perfumery, not so much. Glad you were able to determine it was a no-go before committing to a FB!
Hello, NST! Today is also Black Cat Appreciation Day, which I was reminded of by a post from Simon’s Cat. One of my cats is black, and she is loaded with personality.
SOTD = The Des Vignes, from a sample that Nancyleandros so generously sent to me. It is very pretty, surprisingly refreshing, and it survived an afternoon walk in the heat. Good stuff!
yay for black cats!!!
Another busy day at work, but such is life. I suppose I’d rather have too much to do than not enough.
It was cool and cloudy when I walked to work this morning, so I chose Marni. I’ll be polishing off my sample today. I plan to buy a mini bottle at some point because it’s so cute and the perfume smells pretty good.
Yesterday I finished off a sample too! It was TF Jasmin Rouge.
Guerlain Champs-Élysées
which i find quite modern for an old floral but nobody talks/writes about it ..
I went with DeProfundis today. The bottle is the opposite of this week’s fugly bottle theme. I do have a contender lined up for tomorrow. Although, It’ll be a little disconcerting if someone chooses a bottle that I think is pretty. This should be interesting.
Mmmm, you smell good. I agree it will be interesting to see what someone thinks is fugly :-). I decided on one for tomorrow.
Been wearing Berdoues Assam of India all week, which is like the opposite of a fugly bottle. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do for this challenge! I only have maybe half a dozen full bottles of anything, the worst of which I would describe as unremarkable, but definitely not fugly. I do have a huge stock of decants and samples, so I’ll have to look up some of the bottles and see if I can find something appropriately hideous.
Wow! Assam of India all week? I wore it the entire summer last year so why am i surprised? and it was a blind buy for me BECAUSE of the bottle.
I have nothing that I would consider hideous so I may opt out of the project today and just wear what I want.
NOT a fugly bottle! I repeat, NOT a fugly bottle!
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
I needed some spine strengthening today because I have way too much work to do. The work is still there…
Another horrible event in Barcelona. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
Commuting Woes No. 381:
A guy with a few extra rolls and I made a beeline for a 2-seater. Surprisingly, we fit …until three-quarters of the way to the last stop when he decided to use me as a pillow. Seriously? I had to “adjust” my tote bag to express my displeasure so he budged, a little.
You smell amazing. No. 19 has become a fav of mine thanks to you!
Thank you. It tickles me to no end that No.19 is one of your favorites!
I am going to have to get me some current no 19 since you all rave about it….the last time I wore 19 was maybe 30 years ago????
