Yves Saint Laurent Y ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 11 August 2017 20 Comments

Yves Saint Laurent Y

Yves Saint Laurent has launched Y, a new fragrance for men. Y shares its name with the brands first fragrance, Y for women.

Y IS YVES. Y IS THE QUESTION. Y IS YOU.

Y, the new masculine fragrance by Yves Saint Laurent. Inspired by the iconic Yves Saint Laurent white t-shirt and black jacket, this Eau De Toilette represents a balance between freshness and strength. Like a crisp white t-shirt, notes of bergamot, sage and ginger offer a sharp juicy freshness to challenge convention and exceed all expectations. At its base, soft notes of balsam fir, cedarwood and marine ambergris embody the subtle power of a tailored black jacket that is refined, chic and surprisingly powerful. An authentic and bold creation; masculinity re-defined.

Everything starts with a Why. #THATSY

Yves Saint Laurent Y is available now at Nordstrom, in 60 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

Update: Y was developed by perfumer Dominique Ropion.

The cynic in me can’t help but wonder how much money went into the packaging and how much into the actual juice. And does the world really need another crisp t-shirt scent? Sorry about the crankitude.

      Crankitude allowed.

But you could wonder the same about any fragrance on earth! The juice is not where the money is.

If they really had a pair, they’d bring back the one and only Y. I knew I should have bought a new flacon when the gold colour started flaking off the plastic white spray. Shoulda-woulda-coulda.

You know you can still buy it, right? Not the same, but you can still buy it.

Yes, I see it at The Bay. Heartbreaking. YSL shouldn’t bother. The younger set does not remember or care and the older individuals can’t be fooled. Even my sister smelled a new Rive Gauche and said “harrumph” or a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Gosh another fresh clean men’s scent. How novel and artistic and original.

At least it’s not “Yves Saint Laurent L’Homme Nuit Fraiche Sport Y” – they’ve dragged out those flankers for long enough.

Hedi Slimane (who was the creative director at Saint Laurent for a few years) left the brand for “unknown” reasons, but it’s common knowledge it was over control of the brand and image – he wanted Kering who owns YSL (fashion) to buy back the license on YSL Beauty. This unfortunately didn’t happen.. and this was the man who was responsible for Dior Homme and the Dior Prive fragrances when he was at Dior in the early 2000’s (Bois D’Argent, Ambre Nuit, etc)… Oh, what could have been.

Anyway.. still praying for a re-issue of M7 (last good thing to come out of YSL for men, imho).

“Y IS YVES. Y IS THE QUESTION. Y IS YOU.”

Maybe it’s just me but this sounds like something
    Monty Python came up with.

Yves is the word, is the word that you heard
    It’s got a groove, it’s got a meaning
Yves is the time, is the place, is the motion
Yves is the way we are feeling
