Well drat, it's Monday again. It's also Peach Ice Cream Day, if that's any consolation, plus World Emoji Day ????????❤️????. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a "spray and walk through" application of Tauer Perfumes Rose Nip room spray ????.
Reminder: 7/21 is Ernest Hemingway's birthday ???? ????. Do what you will with the theme, and tell us why you chose your fragrance.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Hermès Eau de Narcisse Bleu for me – it’s a hot day! I read somewhere that it smells like a building site and in a funny way it does, a most beautiful one – slightly cementy iris and some sawn wood…
You smell great!
You smell great!
Robin how do you like the Tauer room spray? All three look interesting.
I’m wearing Annick Goutal Myrrh Ardente lotion today- very beautiful and long lasting for a lotion. Wish I also had a bottle of the perfume.
I have two of them to test, and they’re fantastic room sprays — will do a short review later this week. The rose in particular though can’t compete with Tauer’s rose perfumes — fantastic room spray, but for personal wear I’d rather have Phi or Rose Flash.
Oh thanks – looking forward to the official review. I do love his Rose perfumes and also the Rose body oil.
How long are the room sprays supposed to scent the room? What is the best way ( other than wearing mass quantities of fragrance on yourself and sitting in the room) to use home scents? I like candles, but one has to pay attention to them.
I don’t know the answer as to how long they’re supposed to last, but these put out a significant amount of spray. If you don’t want to pay attention to something, I’d think reed diffusers or electric diffusers would be your best bet. I don’t want my room that smelly, usually — a spritz of something is better for me.
I agree with Robin that reed diffusers are the way to go if you want a sort of quiet “set it and forget it” room fragrance. Diptyque and Nest both have great ones. They’re on the expensive side but last for months on end and don’t have that weird chemical “fresh” scent that a lot of others have.
Sampling Rose Alcane – interesting scent, like a solarized-metallic version of a rose, I think I’ll be sad when my vial is empty, but do I want a FB?
Hemingway and the Caribbean in Vanira Moorea over a base of my homemade vanilla bean body oil applied a bit prematurely as I really wanted it to marinate for six months but is smelled so divine I could not resist!
https://www.hemingwayantigua.com/
would love to be HERE right now 🙂
http://www.caribjournal.com/2015/10/31/there-is-a-bar-at-ernest-hemingways-home-in-cuba/#
and this from the Caribbean Journal….
No kidding! NICE!!!!
Wanna join me ? 🙂
Totally! What a great time we’d have! And of course we’d smell fabulous! 🙂
The body oil sounds divine. Is Vanira Moorea your Berdoues fragrance of this summer?
I actually bought that bottle for a younger family member’s bday…I bought it last June for a steal and saved it until the winter to gift it to her…she isn’t really making a dent in it so I have been stealing sprays from time to time.
The body oil is ridiculously easy to make and costs a fraction of what one would think. I used 2oz of NOW Essential Sweet almond oil and 1 1/2 sticks of vanilla bean (which I get for $1.55 each at my local health food store). I hand planned on marinating until the winter but it smelled so good I had to test it this morning. I made two batches but to the other one I added a few star anise and whole cardamom seeds. Haven’t tried that one yet. It’s the poor man’s version of fragrant body oil 🙂
Thank you for the recipes. I’m stopping at the health food store ASAP! Will report back in a few months.
Oh and I forgot to say make sure that you cut the bean before adding to the oil so that the pulp comes out and scents the oil! Believe it or not, this smells as good to me as the bourbon vanilla oil I used to buy from Eden Botanicals which has gone up astronomically in price..I think vanilla is now being over harvested and it is impacting upon its availability which trickles down to the price.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cuVFnEszDc
So I split the beans but did NOT scrap them…I put the split beans directly into the oil and just let the bottles sit in my basement in a cool dark place.
Ok- that makes sense.
In L’artisan Premier Figuier Extreme for a sunny, hot, humid day working outside. Happy Monday!
You smell great!
I’m wearing Marni today. I’ve decided to make this week about wearing scents that I have neglected for a while. I don’t think I could manage a Hemingway week.
One of my favorites! You smell great!
MMMMMMM….Love Marni! I wear it mostly in fall.
I’m finding that I’m wearing quite a few of my “fall and winter” fragrances all year ’round these days. I’m really enjoying the way that many of them “bloom” in the heat. I got really tired of the citrus and aromatic scents that I wore much of the spring and early summer. Of course in Texas, I mostly spend my days inside in the air conditioning.
Balmain Vent Vert. I put some on last night after a shower, and my daughter asked me “Mom, what do you have on — you smell so good”. I reapplied this morning. I’m drinking a cup of Twinings Buttermint tea.
Nice!
Tiffany EDP. It’s a big floral so will see how it does in the heat. Happy Monday! ☀️????
I like that one.
????
I’ve been wanting to try it. Is it in their retail stores?
I ordered my bottle online from Tiffany in December, they might have it available in stores. I checked online and don’t see any perfumes listed, not sure what is going on. I’m happy to send you a decant if you’d like to try it.
Thanks!
I’m at the gee mail as
Providencepepper.
Just sent an email!
I like that one too! 😉 You smell great.
Thank you! ????
Hiya!
This one: https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Tiffany/Tiffany-Co-46039.html
or this one: https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Tiffany/Tiffany-Co-46039.html ?
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Tiffany/Tiffany-3136.html
The original (maybe reformulated) Tiffany EDP. I didn’t specify that I have the original one.
SOTD is a somewhat liberal application of Chanel 19 EDT which right now somehow feels like resolute happiness. If there is such a thing. 🙂
Lovely description! You smell great.
I can see that! I wish you a happy week ahead 🙂
SotD: French Lover, Frederic Malle
Out of nowhere I got the idea that I wanted to wear Lady Gaga Fame so that’s what I’m in. I bought a bottle of it very cheap and it’s a standard-issue fruity floral with gourmand tendencies but I like it.
Poor Lady Gaga, on the end of the celebrity perfume death spiral.
I love to use the body wash for this scent. My shower smells so nice afterwards.
I like Lady Gaga Fame!! It qualifies as a cheap thrill.
Right now, I have a vintage Chanel no 19 EDP on. After my shower, I’m going to spritz on the current formulation of no 19 EDP. I suspect that there is a huge difference between the two.
After poking around the internet for a while, I saw that A Wrinkle in Time was going to be turned into a movie to be released next year. I’ve seen the trailer and I’m not so sure I want to see it. Why? I’m a book purist and the casting doesn’t seem to fit. A Bridge to Tarabithia (the movie) deviated way too much from the book.
On the other hand, maybe like with Harry Potter, it will encourage people to read “Wrinkle” and other Madeline L’Engle books.
You smell wonderful <3
I don’t know if this is any kind of breaking news here but I just checked out the Chanel website and there will be a new Chanel perfume coming out. It’s called Gabrielle (3.4 ounce EDP) for $135. Finally no 19 in EDP for comes in a 1.7 ounce bottle.
I’m interested in trying the new Gabrielle! I think the bottle is pretty.
I am looking forward to trying the new release, I loved (adored!) Beige and Misia.
It’s sad though, when $135 is practically the new “free”. 🙂 🙂
Yes! And I think it’s 3.4 oz so bulk pricing! ????
I hope you’re not referring to the race of the characters when you say you don’t like the casting. Even if you’re not, “the characters just aren’t like I pictured them” will be coded language many use to disguise racist reactions to this casting, so I would be careful when explaining my objections!
I’m not making it all about race. I don’t like how Hollywood takes everything about race. After reading interviews about the movie, it sounded like the director was making some kind of political statement. You don’t use a classic to make one unless the book itself is somekind of political statement.
But likewise, and especially since we avoid political discussion here in the interest of keeping the peace, we should be careful when we say what we hope others mean or don’t mean. Since Dawn did not bring up race she also should not have to defend herself against anything 🙂
Or another way to put it, even if you were 100% sure you saw “coded language many use to disguise racist reactions”, the comment policy still basically prevents you from accusing another reader.
I’m sorry, Robin, I didn’t mean for this to happen.
No need at all to be sorry. We are absolutely allowed to say we don’t like the casting of a movie.
No need for Regina to be sorry either. I assume everyone had good intentions 🙂
I liked the books as a kid. I re-read Wrinkle as an adult a few years ago, and didn’t like it nearly as much. It seemed kind of…stilted. So I’m pretty psyched if the movie is different from the book, and am looking forward to the casting.
I had the same reaction. I tried to read it to a class at school and it went over like a lead balloon. It didn’t live up to my memories at all.
I ADORE A Wrinkle in Time and read it many times when I was growing up. The movies add to the mythology for me. I’m planning to see the new one (Chris Pine!!!) and then rewatch the version from 2003.
Oh, No 19 in vintage! You smellll niiiice!
Have you ever tried the body cream in 19?
It is so creamy and plush/rich – one of my favorite creams ever (besides the Amouage creams).
I hear you about the which is better, the movie or the book?
I often prefer to never see a movie if I’ve read the book first. I love to let my imagination create the characters.
I’m currently reading Beautiful Creatures, and while I enjoyed the movie (hello Jeremy Irons!), the book is so much better, as is usually the case….
I hear you, but I really like it when someone takes an old idea, even a treasure, and looks at it a new way. Even when I don’t like the revision I appreciate the willingness to deviate.
One of my favorite plays is Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s The Visit, which I have seen produced countless ways–eras, styles, accents… (okay, maybe four in truth). Wish someone would produce it again in a new way! I’d see it yet again.
I’m with you. New contexts and castings make us reevaluate or find new relevance.
It’s summer, and I have a fair number of warm weather scents. But, I’m in Fiori di Capri again. There’s something about the soapiness that is striking a chord with me. That and the carnation….
Soapiness and carnation – that sounds very elegant 🙂
I’m wearing JHAG Mad Madame and Miss Charming. We visited Arielle Shoshana yesterday and she suggested Lady Vengeance for my upcoming high school reunion, depending on how I felt about my classmates 😉 . From the discovery collection, I’m also trying the MM and MC as alternates. I can’t go too wrong since any rose will make me feel closer to the youthfulness of a girl in HS, but grounded with wisdom of experience.
I like all three, with Madame being my favorite. When is the reunion?
At the end of the month in Cleveland.
I recently had the opportunity to sample Lady Vengeance when I dove into my sample sea..it is very pretty…I think it would be nice to wear for a high school reunion.
I like Mad Madame and Romantina. The Oud one is great too.
Jean Patou Vacances vintage eau de toilette Ma Collection
Yum.
Wearing JM Orris & Sandalwood today. There’s a certain powdery transparency (makes no sense, I know!) that I find soothing.
Off topic, but also soothing: the ‘Harry Potter and the sacred text’ podcast. It balances out my binge-listening of ‘My Favorite Murder’ 🙂
I know those podcasters, although I am embarrassed to say I haven’t listened to the actual podcast! They’d be delighted to know that they are soothing though!
I find their discussion eye opening, well reasoned, and infused with warmth. I love the HP books and re-read them every few years, but the podcast keeps giving me many fresh perspectives. Your friends(?) are doing an amazing job 😀
That describes them to a T! Friends and former students.
I love Orris& Sandalwood, wish they would make a body cream to go with that one too. You smell beautiful.
Thank you! Agree, a body cream would be wonderful..
Angel Muse today. I would love to have this in body products.
Ooh, that would be lovely. Maybe eventually.
Yes!
Just tried the perfume at Ulta the other day – delicious, but love the idea of body products – have you ever tried adding it to a neutral lotion? I bought Lubriderm and added diamond and rubies to it – and it’s great.
Just put on lankaran forest after a swim and a sauna. Vacations are good.
Oh but forgot to say the place I am staying has an aroma sauna that smelled awful. Good idea, poor execution, at least to my nose. Way to soapy, a perfume type I myself don’t like at all. What is that smell?
Ugh! But vacation, swim, sauna, all otherwise sound good 🙂
Yes for sure. Nothing to complain about here! I hope you had a good one.
I personally like the natural cedar smell of saunas. I’ve been in steambaths where essential oils (or something?) are added to the water. One was eucalyptus/menthol-y and that was quite nice. Sounds pretty good right now, actually.
Enjoy your vacation! Sounds like you’re off to a great start !
Yes that cedar smell is great. This was something in the steam room I couldn’t identify, but no worries. I swam and hot bathed and had a lovely relaxing time.
The only Hemingway novel I remember liking is The Old Man and the Sea. Not sure I would want to wear a scent reminiscent of that novel.
I’m wearing an old(ish) stand-by, Gardénia Passion, which is in actual fact a tuberose and a jolly nice one at that. Curious about those Tauer roomsprays.
I thought about wearing Creed Love in White today and tying it to this book because of this-
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Creed/Love-in-White-4262.html
The reference to the love of sailing and also the “marine harmony”
Have you ever read what Luca Turin said about Creed’s Love in White? It’s very funny although far from complimentary. I’ve never tried it myself, nor any of the Creeds actually.
I do hope I haven’t offended you, as that was not my intention.
Just re-read. Lol. I enjoy his sense of humor about many of the scents he reviews…then I feel a little embarrassed of myself when I like those scents.????
You really shouldn’t I love Rockin’Rio 🙂
Oh no offense taken 🙂 My nose does not smell the way most folks noses do…many have noted that Love in White smells of sugar and rice and everything nice…to my wonky nose I get lots of citrus and it even reminds me a bit of Cristalle and the discontinued Pucci Sole 149 (and because I like them both is why I think I like Love in White) I have a very small sample (only 1/4 of the vial) and only tried it once so I really can’t say for sure that it is an absolute love but I definitely enjoyed it 🙂
Like madtowngirl, I also like the Escadas and many of the cheapo drugstore fragrances I grew up on…I will wear it all 🙂
Sounds good to me. I will wear L in W on Friday and won’t have to think anything up myself. (Thanks for letting me use your brain – it’s summer and mine is on vacation.)
LOL! Glad I could help 🙂
But honestly, you could wear anything: tobacco, booze, something inspired by his writing style, the jazz age in Paris, whatever!
I know, and thanks!
An ‘old man’ scent with marine notes…
I used to work in a hospital so the smell of an old man is somehow not that enticing 😉
This is what helped me-
http://www.ernesthemingwaycollection.com/about-hemingway/ernest-hemingway-in-spain
the side bar gives all the countries he lived in/traveled to so I just picked a fragrance representing that country…or went with booze and also tobacco…tomorrow I may tie in a fragrance that has tobacco with Cuba….or I might just go with Love in White 🙂
Good morning Y’all….
Doing the fresh and clean thing with Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Tropical. It works in the heat and humidity….
Nice! Can’t go wrong with green tea and tropical when the weather is so hot!
I used the EA green tea shower gel this morning. I know you love shower gels, and this one smells so good! Just like the perfume.
LOL…I’ve got a shower gel PROBLEM for sure. If anything, #ProjectShowerGel has gone backward! I’ll be on the lookout for the shower goodies!
I do love a good shower gel. I don’t know if you can still get them states side, but Roger & Gallet’s shower gels were super. Great lathering, nice fragrance too.
Oh I just smelled EA green tea at Kohl’s yesterday, wonderful!
I have Kohls cash I decided to use on more “affordable” perfumes -though they could be purchased cheaper elsewhere – could not make up my mind – between green tea, lovely, Jennifer Aniston, juicy couture – better make up my mind before my cash expires, #decisionsdecisions
Good Morning!
1) SOTD is Santal 33 (from a sample). It is lovely and fresh and I see why it became so popular. Is it full bottle worthy? Not for me, finally. Stash by SJP fulfills the woodsy unisex theme!
2) A beautiful, beautiful weekend here in Portland! Sunny and breezy and with gentle summer warmth. Recovered about 80% from my horrid migraine attack, so was able to enjoy the bright sun and even the ambient city noise.
3) Game of Thrones, GUYS. GUYS. GUYS. That opening! Almost as good when Walder Frey got it. Or when Bolton got it.
And Stash is SOOOOO much cheaper 🙂
Oh yes- and Ulta has periodic sales for fragrances, so why not?
I’m missing GoT and about to die from withdrawal! ????
*No spoilers* I know, wasn’t the opening stellar?
The entire episode was good, perfect balance of tension, suspense and anticipation.
And I can never have enough dragons (or Direwolves). 😉
That was a HELL of an opening! and it was really good drama overall last night.
I LOOOOOVED the GoT opening! The whole show was great! And you smell great, too, btw!
Late to this.
Thank you so much! Santal 33 is really lovely, but I do like Stash more!
Yesss GoT is back, wooohooo, and what a great episode!!!
I know, right! Wowzers!
My Stash is on its way, can’t wait to smell it!
You will really like it!
Yay! Reading A Perfect Scent, so curius to know the fruit of SJP’s concoction, purchased blind!
I considered writing my SOTD post in Hemingway’s style, then remembered that I dislike it far too much to do that. I’m wearing Earth Mother, which is most definitely not for me.
Another fragrancenet question: have any of you figured out how to get free shipping AND the 35 % off coupon?
Ha, Hemingway doesn’t have too many female fans from what I understand. What do you dislike about Earth Mother?
Gosh, I’m a fan! No idea if most women aren’t (?)
I’ve heard many female literary buffs and critics feel he’s a “bit” misogynistic and take issue with the way women are portrayed in his work. I personally don’t have issues either, but I think we are the minority.
If one applied that to the entire literary canon, it would leave women with very little to read without being offended.
I read Hemingway in my late teens and early 20s (as well as Fitzgerald and their other contemporaries.) I haven’t read anything from that era since then, but at the time I was a big fan.
Oh yes, a “bit.” >.<
Apparently, books exist about this issue: https://www.amazon.com/Hemingway-Women-Female-Critics-Voice/dp/0817351507
Oh, he is absolutely a “bit” misogynistic.
Mm, it’s a bit too sweet and, uh, girly? It smells like a cutesy 19yo girl in a miniskirt who’s trying to pass for a woman.
I think your order has to exceed $59 for free shipping. I don’t think you can use both codes.
Yes, I think chocolatemarzipan is right, need minimum order of $59.
If you use shoprunner, you can have the 35% coupon and free shipping. I think there has to be a $25 minimum though.
I really like Shoprunner. 🙂
I’ve used Shoprunner for free shipping on FragranceNet with a $25 minimum purchase and was given the percent off discount. I think it was 30%.
If you have an Amex card you can likely get a free Shoprunner membership. Returns are free with Shoprunner purchases too. 🙂
Oh wow–I do have an Amex, so I should try this! Is it free for a trial time, or permanently?
The free Shoprunner membership with Amex is ongoing with no expiration as far as I can tell.
Well. Monday.
Since no one has contacted me from my contracted facility, and my voice messages I left on Friday were also not returned, I went ahead and went to work today. SOTD was Omnia (Le Original) which I forgot how much I liked.
Of course, after I arrived and multiple people were called, I was told that in fact I was not supposed to be there and should instead arrive tomorrow at 9am to speak with the scheduler.
So. Returned home, packed up the dog for what I thought would be a short jaunt at a local park and got lost for 2 hours. There is an extensive trail system, some paved and wheelchair accessible, others boardwalks over wetlands, as well as dirt trails for hikers and mountain bikers! Right in the middle of town, and you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. It was the very best way to get lost!
Omnia is mostly gone, just like the bowl of steel cut oatmeal I just wolfed down and the hard boiled egg T-Rex gobbled up. Now for a shower and a new scent….
A nap may be in the works, too…????
Can I ask what part of the country you’re in now…? Sounds nice. If you ever get a traveling nurse gig in Madison, you’ll have to let me know!
I’m in Greenville SC. I was at Lake Conestee Nature Park, which connects with the Swamp Rabbit Trail, a 22 mile trail that follows old RailRoad routes. It is quite extensive, and of course I found the map online. After I got home.????
It’s really well done with many educational placards about indigenous plants and animals all along the trails. Also did a good job explaining the ever shifting river and gradual process of the lakebed being filled in over time due to the sediment rich river flow. It’s quite the hot spot for birders because of the extensive wetlands attracts numerous species.
I had a friend that went to college in Madison. She was a Wisconsinite by birth and always used to tease me because I was from Illinois. If I get to Wisconsin, I’ll let you know for sure. For some reason, I was thinking you were in the Chicago area. The Midwest seems to be the area currently most in need of nurses and there are many opportunities for travel there. ????
I love trails with boardwalks like that. I’ve heard the Carolina’s are beautiful- enjoy!
Something like that happened to me- I was scheduled at a new place and showed up before first thing in the morning. No one was there. I couldn’t reach the scheduler so drove almost an hour back to the office. She came in and then apologized for not informing me to be there in the afternoon.
The day was kind of downhill after that. It sounds like you made the best of a frustrating situation.
Frustrating for sure, but far from the end of the world! My commute was less than 10 minutes, but had it been an hour long like yours, I might be feeling a bit more put out.
Nice! Trail systems within urban areas are great.
Wearing Cedrat Enivrant today as a tribute to my turned bottle of Eau d’hadrien.
I tried just splashing Ed’H instead of spraying, thinking that the issue might be the spray mechanism. Nope, still celery, but slightly lemony celery. I dumped the remains of the bottle down the bathroom sink last night, and this morning my sink smelled very faintly of lemons, no celery at all. Good thing there are many lemony, woody scents out there.
You smell refreshing!
Just had that happen with the remnants of an old bottle of Voleur de Roses… interesting that no matter what it originally smelled like, old bad perfume turns to celery.
I can think of worse things (to smell of when perfume dies), I guess.
Come to think of it, I recently wore a sample of Antonia’s Flowers and it was really unpleasant and smelled of bitter celery, which I hadn’t recalled from testing it previously. I wonder if it had just gone off? It wasn’t that old – I got it a year ago, maybe? Or 18 months?
I had a bottle of SL “Rahat Loukoum” that turned and smelt of old boiled cabbage. Celery would’ve been an improvement! :^)
Missionista I have a partial bottle of Eau d’Hadrien that is still in good shape. I bought it around 2006 or so, so it is an older formulation. I am at marianna_r in he yahoooo- let me know if you want it
You smell fantastic!
I’m nearly out of my CE decant, and am pretty sure I’ll buy a full bottle. Of all the lemony-woodsy scents, it’s definitely my favorite!
Oops, meant to direct that comment at Missionista.
However, I’ve now found that Cedrat Enivrant and JM Wild Bluebell layer nicely together.
Olivine Atelier More Than the Stars perfume oil. A nice size drop added to my unscented Everyone lotion and it is working quite nicely. It’s like having a customized scented lotion. There are several from this line I really like.
I like mixing with unscented lotions too. And for some reason, prefer lotions in the summer — seems less overwhelming than perfume.
Today’s SOTD is Alessandro Dell’ Acqua by Alessandro Dell’ Acqua – one of my favorite florientals, with crisp/greens (Geranium, coriander & sweet pea) florals (rose, peony and hibiscus) with an incense (sandalwood & incense) dry down.
In six hours, I’m going to be wafting loads of powdery incense.
You smell great!
Thanks! 😉 I applied at six am, so am in powder-mode right now!
I am glad I purchased a backup bottle. One of the few perfumes I would do that for.
SOTD is Byredo “Rose of No Man’s Land”, starting off a week of vaguely Hemingway-inspired scents. I chose this for its WW1 reference, which is great so long as you overlook that it’s the wrong country. Or maybe there was a No Man’s Land on the Italian front as well?
Top: pink pepper and rose;
Mid: rose and raspberry bloom;
Base: papyrus and amber.
It’s a perfectly nice rose, if you like that kind of thing. :^)
Today I am in Profumum Roma Acqua Viva thanks to the last meet up with the Vancouver perfume pals and hajusuuri. I am in the market for something fresh and zesty like this. Besides Eau d’Hadrien, what would you all recommend?
Berdoues Grand Cru Assam of India or Minions cologne
This one-
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Le-Couvent-des-Minimes/Eau-des-Minimes-Cologne-8809.html
Thanks. I will have to try those.
I didn’t sleep well last night so I decided I needed something peppy today. So I went with Calyx.
Perfect choice!
SotD = Eau des Merveilles because I’m predictable like that.
It’s a cloudy Monday at the beach. The fragrant sparkle of EdM makes a pleasing contrast. Went for a long walk along the water at low tide. Found two pairs of swim goggles, a pair of sunglasses, a blue t-shirt, and a sweater. Mercifully the clothes were above the tide line. It’s fun to leave them at the edge of the parking lot and watch them disappear.
You smell predictably great 🙂
thx! I would probably never have found EdM without NST.
I wore it yesterday and really enjoyed it
Yay for Eau des Merveilles! I’m glad it was enjoyable for you. It makes me happy every time I wear it.
Went out for a bike ride because it was nice and cool and cloudy with little wind. Of course halfway through it poured rain and I came home soaked and caked with dirt. After a wash of myself and the bike, I am in Bruno Acampora Musk.
Sounds like a good day despite the rain.
It was! I didn’t really mind the rain as it isn’t cold.
Cazaubon, I’m assuming you haven’t received your Naja yet? It’s possible I’m more excited about delivery than you…!
Still nothing!!
The best musk eva! Of course I am anosmic to it after 5 minutes.
I’ve been patch testing Chanel Cristalle, Amouage Bracken and Smell Bent Florist Fridge – comparing the three as all have a green, stalky freshness. The Chanel is the smoothest and richest of the three, beatifully blended and pulled together ( which is part of my problem with Chanel perfumes ). Smell Bent is the art student version, and a bit chalkier than the others. Amouage is the midpoint, I think – but now I’ve finished my sample so the experiment is falling apart.
Also tried layering Florists Fridge with amouage Journey to see if that would give me Bracken. It worked better than expected, and I liked the combination.
Today I will layer Interlude with Journey and see what happens. Freezing here. Reminds me of when I was a kid scraping the ice off my bike seat before heading off to school.
Tough kid! Sounds like a Canadian childhood. 😉
Very good morning, NST. My new boss (female, Turkish) loves perfume and was wearing something DIVINE the other day. She said it was by Kenzo, and the name sounded like J’ai V???? I didn’t like to ask twice, because….oh, I don’t know! Because I didn’t want to seem as stupid as I am, I suppose. Anyway, it was fabulous on her and I now have have USES (Upward Scent Envy Syndrome). Many of you may well know the perfume she named, but whatever it is, it won’t be available here. Sigh.
I’m cheering up a dreary old grey day by wearing my dearly-loved Amber Narguile. I really do smell like warm apple crumble, in the best possible way. It’s a happy, even jolly, smell, but not without a modicum of elegance. Actually, I don’t think J-CE was capable of making a clumsy perfume. Even when I don’t much like his scents ( a couple of the Jardin series cone to mind), I like his style.
Well, off I pootle. I have to throw three students out of my papers today. I hate doing that, but it has to happen. Again, heavy sigh…at least I smell delicious!
Maybe it was from the Jeu d`Amour Collection? Here’s a list of the Kenzo fragrances: https://www.fragrantica.com/designers/Kenzo.html
Popping on to say that I’m wearing the very last drops of my Fille en Aigulles decant and smell wonderful. Sadly, I’m bloody furious that I won’t be getting either of the bottles I ordered and am completely fed up with online discount retailers right now. You may remember that I ordered a bottle last week at a hell of a deal? Well, Tuesday I got an email that they had accidentally over-sold and that they would issue a refund. Not to be thwarted, I promptly ordered from my second choice retailer who claimed at the time to have four bottles left. I just got an email saying that oops, they sold out before my order came through (five days ago!), and I could have a 10% coupon instead. I think the 10% is what’s making me boil. Those jerks almost always have 30% discount codes floating around and this is the third time they’ve pulled this on me. I should know better by now.
Sorry for the rant, but I know you guys would feel suympathetic. I guess I’m stuck ordering from luckyscent and either paying an arm and a leg for shipping or watching my bottle travel the country in the heat 🙁 What a disappointment.
Have you tried fragrancebue.com? It’s Canadian, but they ship to the US.
That was supposed to be fragrancebuy.com
How unbelievably annoying! I am so sorry!
Unfortunately this happens on fragrancenet often, they obviously do not have real-time inventory capabilities. So sorry this happened to you. Did you try Parfum1? They have always been reliable for me and have regular coupons.
I’m in Noir de Noir today for no reason other than I just love it. I love Hemingway, so hope to think of some creative choices the remainder of the week!
Hope everyone has a nice, fragrant week….
Glad to see another fan!
Today I wore Aedes Iris Nazarena
Slightly delayed SOTD = Soivohle’s Studio Red Rose, from the sample stash. Liz Zorn does some really pretty roses… I had an appointment with the eye doctor this morning, so I figured I’d play it safe and not wear scent until after I had come back home.
Oh I have been wearing my three Liz Zorn decants that a fragrant fairy gifted me a lot in the evenings…Jasmine Summer, Lilacs & Heliotrope and Honeysuckle Bird…they are all so perfect for the summer! I might wear Honeysuckle Bird and tie it into Idaho which is where Hemingway lived for a while…don’t know why but when I think of Idaho I think of farms and meadows and beautiful scenery….and Honeysuckle Bird seems to fit that scene to my nose…..any Idaho folks out there who can tell me if my perception is off?
As beautiful as I imagined –

this community project this week really has me thinking outside of the box 🙂

As it so happens, I lived in southeast Idaho for 10 years as a kid. Not so much meadows, but plenty of farms once you get outside the larger towns and cities. (That doesn’t take long, BTW.) It’s semi-arid there. Hemingway lived in the mountains in Ketchum, which is right next to the Sun Valley ski resort. Think of hot stones, pine trees and other conifers, and maybe some sagebrush as some of the things you might smell there.
Thanks for that tidbit! I will now have to “rethink” my Idaho perfume for the week 🙂
Or maybe not as Honeysuckle Bird might work on a farm!
I turned the last of my terracotta sample into a body oil and have some Kenzo UFO on top. Back in workshop, building our piece, so I won’t be too creative or strong with scent this week–will save those characteristics for writing etc!
I have two Aftelier samples headed my way: Parfum Prive and Cuir de Gardenia. Has anyone here tried these two? If yes, what is your opinion of these? Thank you!
I only tried Cuir in solid perfume form a few years ago and it did not work for me at all…someone said that Mandy uses ambergris in her base so that may have been it….but YMMV…..naturals come across differently with different skin chemistry.
thank you! Ambergris is from whales (?) I get that note and amber switched. Will be interesting to try the Cuir!
I tried Cuir Gardenia. I did not like it – not my ch Cuir 🙁
I like Cuir de Gardenia – it’s rather louche and glamorous in a Raymond Chandler (anti)heroine kind of way. Hope you enjoy!
Hello hello. Too mental today to think about Hemingway, except to say that I did love For Whom the Bell Tolls… wore Sublime Balkiss … oldest wayfairing son is off to camp for a week and then another week washing dishes (at least he will grow proficient at something that will make him an excellent spouse one day) . Feeling ennui, even a little naseous. Useless! Grrrrr… Oh. In honor of Emojis.. ????????????????????????????????♂️????????????
Excellent selection of emojis! Sorry it was not a great day.
Posting late today. I decided to do a week of BWF so I am doing Carnal Flower
Almost too late to bother posting. Nevertheless, I wore Rahele today.
never too late…I read in the wee hours of the morning….and you smell so good 🙂
