It's Hump Day! Plus, Henry David Thoreau's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I've slept late again, and I'm still commando while I decide what I'll do today; we have only a few days of vacation left so we have to do everything.
Reminder: on 7/14 we're celebrating Bastille Day! See if you might possibly have anything French in your collection? Extra points for extra-French-ness, or for silly perfume Frenchification.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

My precious nectar Guerlain
Uh oh, Songes better cover her ears.????
he he!!
Cover her ears and her nose 🙂
I’m in Songes today and thought of you when I put it on!
you smell so so SO good!
you smell wonderful!
SOTD Guerlain Jicky. I have neglegted my decant for a long time, but every time I wear it it is a real pleasure.
House twins!
🙂
Jicky is a favorite of mine as well
You smell fabulous! I adore Jicky, but had to sell off my vintage Parfum de Toilette because the husband hates lavender. I will sneakily wear a dab of the extrait on occasion when he’s out for the day.
It is beautiful. Isn’t it?
It is! And a little bit different in hot humid weather vs. cooler weather too. I get more citrus on warm days and musky dry down on cooler days.
Leaving for Newfoundland tomorrow, so I’m wearing Wood Sage and Sea Salt to get hyped. Too bad this last work day is going so painstakingly slow…
Have fun on The Rock.
It is a breathtaking place with such friendly people.
Wave at me as you fly over Nova Scotia 🙂
You smell great Enjoy your trip!
Love Wood Sage and Sea Salt- you smell great! Have fun!
Have a great trip!
Have a wonderful time as you Come Back From Away. How do you know a Newfoundlander in Paradise? She’s the one moaning’ and groaning’ that she wants to go Home.
Bon voyage! I will be visiting the maritimes this September, really looking forward to it.
Ohhh??
Will you be in Nova Scotia??
If so, we should meet for coffee and sniffs…..
Yes I will! We must meet up. DH says he would like to go the first week of September. My email is my user name at me.com.
Aaaaah, you smell lovely! Have fun on your trip!
Vol de Nuit vintage probably 1970s. The Parfum spray. The first time I tried this, I was transported to elementary school, as I bet one of my teachers wore it. It’s a beautiful fragrance.
You smell wondrous <3
Thank you!
Voil de Nuit is beautiful. You smell divine!
I love scent memories/associations.
One of my favorites – you smell gorgeous!
Love scent memories too….I think one of my mom’s friends wore Chanel 19, if I ever see her again I will ask her.
Guerlain is making a strong showing today
I’m wearing Vol de Nuit tomorrow!
Thanks to you, I also know you smell lovely! ????
Wearing Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist on Hump Day.
My favorite Lutens. You smell fantastic!
I need to test ISM. I have a sample, but have been waiting for the ‘right time’ to try it. Not sure the heat of the summer is the right weather. Just really want to love this one.
I should get over myself and just douse myself with the sample.
Do it! for perfume science! 🙂
I think tomorrow will be the day! 🙂
Do not hesitate! Douse yourself with the sample. I hope you like it.
Vivienne Westwood Boudoir
original vintage Lancaster version
I did not know about Elephant of Bastille. Red Wikipedia article just now. Interesting! Thanks, Robin.
Hermes day for me! In my search for a perfect fragrance for this hot day I’ve had three Hermes scents on the same day. First, I briefly re-tested Eau de Gentiane Blanche. I still do not like it. The first minute is quite good (icy-cold bitter floral), but then it loses its freshness and becomes weirdly synthetic and unpleasantly metallic. Another fragrance an android could wear. Then I put on Jour. Very nice – clean white florals and refreshing citrus. Regrettably I only had a tiny dab-on sample (about 0.2 or 0.3 ml), I used it up hours ago and by now it’s nearly gone. So I have just sprayed my trusty old favorite – Un Jardin sur le Nil. It never fails and never disappoints.
Red Wikipedia article just now = (I) read Wikipedia article just now.
Scent twins. Yes to Hermes today! Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and a little Eau de Narcisse Bleu on the back of my neck.
I may try Eau de Rhubarabe Ecalarte later- perfect for a hot humid day.
We smell great. 🙂
Oh, I’ve never tried Eau de Narcisse Bleu! Daffodil and wood sounds good to me. Eau de Rhubarbe Ecalarte was also one of my options. It is indeed great for a weather like today (it’s hot and humid here too).
You smell great! Eau de Narcisse Bleu is my favourite from the Hermès Eau-line. 🙂
And Sur le Nil is gorgeous too.
Love all of those. I really do enjoy so many Hermes scents. I didn’t care for Sur Le Nil or Monsieur Li until after I tried Sur Le Toit… that made me revisit and change my mind.
I’m so with you on Sur le Nil. What a great, classic, never-fail scent!
Gentiane Blanche is a really weird one. I don’t hate it, but having said that, I haven’t reached for my bottle in at least a year…I recently found some Hermes combo body and hair wash on big sale, so picked up a few small bottles. I’m using Pamplemousse Rose at the moment–smells lovely for summer, but very fleeting.
Did you say hair and body wash, on sale?? Prey tell where?? Please do tell!
Oh, I’m sure Hermes body products are very pleasant to use. A grapefruit body wash is always welcome on a hot day!
Hitting another major French house with Chanel No. 22 EDT
I just found out I have impetigo ( at the age of 50 !!! ) so I am waiting for drugs and washing my hands so as not to spread the joy
Oh no! I would be just as shocked! I always think of it as a kids affliction.
Take care!!
I always associate no. 22 with you. Have you tried the EDP? Just wondering if it is very different?
What an absolutely fantastic compliment – thank you !!!!!
I have tried the EDP, but it was during a day of extreme spritzing when on vacation.
I seem to recall a fuller scent – somehow missing the sheerness which makes the EDT such a perfect office scent, but I also tested the parfum that day, so I could be full of manure also :P.
I do remember it as being definitively 22 though.
That’s good to know. I have it on my ” just one good bottle ” list. I’m not one to track down bottles, so if the EDP wasn’t recognizable, I would take it off the list.
SotD: Dryad. Papillon.
From a sample.
Point for frenchification, English brand, French name?
Also, as a little girl I took ballet classes and my clothes were from a brand called Papillon. It was one of the first french words I learned. 🙂
And I have two Papillon dogs! How do you like Dryad?
Ooh i think I know…..small dogs but with big (butterfly…duh) ears??!
Dryad is beautiful. Wearing it for the 2nd time and liking it even more now.
I enjoyed it while working, and the medicinal vibe I got first time (last saturday) did not bother me this time.
It would have been lovely if the narcissus was more upfront and a little dirtier, but i also think that would make it less suitable for office wear.
Yes, they look like Yoda/Gizmo. 🙂
..and probably with more of a Gizmo than a Yoda personality? 😉
I adore Papillons! Such personality in a very cute package!
A friend of mine used to have a papillon and he was one of the few dogs I’ve ever enjoyed being around. I’m a cat person, and I suspect I liked him because he was rather cat-like!
Nicolasix, I love all fuzzy critters but funny how we have cats (Maine Coons) who are very dog-like! 🙂 Go figure.
I actually chose the Papillon breed because they are cat-like. I had never had a dog before, only cats, so I wanted something familiar.
Annick Goutal Rose Splendide on this very hot day. I just love her rose scents.
They are very good, and you smell lovely.
I adore Rose Splendide! For me it is the smell of the beach roses when my family would go to Cape Cod in the summer.
You smell beautiful and very French!
I have to try that one..
There is so many goutals to try..
Eau des Merveilles Bleue today. Still trying to decide whether or not I need a bottle of this one and I think it is “not’, the original will always be my favorite.
Yesterday I wore La Chasse and every time I wear it I am struck by how truly pretty it is. Is it really a white floral? I always think of it as pink, but that’s probably because of the label on the old bottles.
Happy Hump Day all!
Oh! Madtowngirl, I love Hermes, and have wanted to try the Eau des Merveilles Bleue – I do love a salty and patchouli note in my perfume. What makes it fb-worthy for you?
I’m not always the best at describing scents, but I am one of the few that actually get a bit of mint in the opening. It definitely feels marine or Mediterranean. My nose does not get much patchouli. It has good longevity on my skin and it’s less sweet than the Eau Claire or Elixir.
I would love to send you a sample if you are in the US! Shoot me an email at pkwisdom in the land of yahooo.
EdMB is very nice but I think I prefer the original EdM edt.
Imo EdMB lacks a bit of depth and is somewhat boring after a few hours.
To my nose, La Chasse is not a white floral. Visually, I’ve always seen it as a citron shade (or somewhere in the yellow-green spectrum).
SOTD is Hermés 24 Faubourg. I’m not sure it gets any Frencher than this. 🙂
House twins! Oui oui!
Bonjour!
Very classy, and yes very French! You smell wonderful.
Merci!
24 is gorgeous! You smell amazing!
C’est vrai! 🙂
Beautiful scent. Came on my radar years ago when a very senior female executive wore it. I think it was the first Hermes I tried.
I adore 24, it just doesn’t work on my skin but my oh my is it an elegant perfume!
SmokeyToes! Wanted to say thank you for the rec on an alternative to vintage Cristalle EDT – while searching EB for the alternative, I ran across an alleged ’70s-era bottle of Cristalle EDT at a VERY competitive price point and leaped on it. It will be here soon and I’ll report back!
Hi Sheri!
Excellent! I’m so happy I could enable/er, I mean, help!
🙂
Please do let me know how it works on you and congrats on the excellent buy!
This French perfume theme is a walk in the park, and a nice park it is. Chanel 19 parfum pour moi, au matin. To go with my cargo capris and sport sandals cause I’m classy like that 😉
Twins. We smell goood …
House twins. You smell wonderful, and 19 goes with anything she darn well pleases 🙂
Exactly!
Exactly!
Nous sommes jumelles…
I had to google the translation for this, my admittedly weak French is even weaker lately. I had to use “au matin” because I couldn’t even remember the word for aujourd hui ????
Parfums MDCI Rose de Siwa as I wanted to include an outrageously expensive perfume as well. That said the sample deal is brilliant.
Love Rose de Siwa! I almost wore RdS on Monday. You smell lovely and pink!
It’s one on my “pinkest” perfumes!
Now that my very unfree have perfume has gone (my new bottle of Iris de Nuit, Heeley) I think I will re spray with either Jour de Hermes or Chasse aux Pappilion..such nice decisions!
Oh damn that spell check!- that should be ‘un French perfume’
Two very lovely choices. Can’t go wrong!
Continuing with Miller & Bertaux – I dug up my ancient sample of Close your eyes and…, which I am enjoying a lot more than one wants to enjoy an almost-empty sample.
Future purchase?
Comptoir sud pacifique vanille abricot
well this is lovely, but I do need to douse myself in it. Is this nicer than scents that can be found a bath & body/body shop? I have no idea because I never shopped there before this new fragrance obsession – do you guys know? its more expensive, but it is worth it?
It is very lovely and delicate, and is very pleasant wafting up to my nose. I feel it would fit the bill of a fragrance I can reach for without thinking, and would also be a nice layering fragrance.
It does seem somewhat refined, but I am tricking myself into thinking of this because it is French and more expensive than sweet body sprays?
I use a lot of their lotions and shower gels, but not the body sprays. I just don’t care for body sprays in general. I feel for 12 bucks, I should get more than water with a splash of fragrance. They just don’t make me feel happy when I spray them. That’s just me though, and I’m a perfume weirdo.
thanks…and where are you even finding this for $12.00??
The 10ml travel spray is $22 at Sephora!
Oh, I meant the body sprays at BBW. For the price of two body sprays you can get the travel spray of the CSP that you already know you really like, and should last you longer.
Oh! yes yes yes, I thought there was some secret discount I didn’t know about, ha 🙂
If you are weird, I’ll join you in the weirdness. I bought a BBW body spray last fall, some spicy vanilla thing, and never used it. I loved it in the store, but in the mornings I was always distracted by something else. Didn’t want it to compete with whatever else I was testing/wearing. So, there ya go. 🙂
Two thumbs up, I really like that one. Perfect for this time of year
Vanille Abricot is the only CSP scent for which I’ve gone back to get another sample. Many of them are fun, but for me this one just struck the right note. It was a candidate for this week, but lost out to Monday’s Diptyque. :^)
Feeling edified! Thanks 🙂
Wearing Bvlgari Black today…..Love this stuff!
Lovely!
I love Black!
Love that too ❤️
Good morning NST folks!
Having totally forgotten about this weeks French theme, I’m in Penhaligon’s Sartorial. It always seems the right choice for grey, wet, muggy days like today.
A question for the NST hivemind: Do you have any suggestions for fun places to shop (for perfume or otherwise) in Chicago? I’m heading there this weekend with my mom and we love some good window shopping. I’m pretty familiar with the downtown Loop area of Chicago, so I’m also looking to break out and explore some different neighborhoods.
I’m planning a visit here in the fall. If the store is 25% like the website, we will need a few hours.
Have a good trip!
http://merzapothecary.com
Whoa, I didn’t realize smallflower.com had a brick-and-mortar location. I may need to spend a few hours there too 😉 Thanks so much for the tip!
The nose, Bertrand Duchaufour, is French. 😉
What do you know! I’m on-theme after all 🙂
I’d imagine there are few perfumes that don’t have some kind of link to France in one way or another.
Mugler Pure Coffee. Kind of French. Very A*Men, very coffee. One of my favourite morning wake-up scents.
As much as I love coffee, I should try that one.
As much as i love Mugler, i should try it.
Yum!
I’m wearing Hermes also, in perhaps my least favorite of the Jardins, En Mediterranee. I love them all to different degrees. This one has fig, which is one of the notes, that in general, I just cannot deal with. However in Un Jardin en Mediterranee, the fig is balanced by the citrus, cypress and cedar, so it is one of the few figs that I enjoy.
Azemour, from a sample. Lovely! I’m in the mood for mossy and hay.
I went to a U2 concert the weekend before the 4th, and came back with a nasty cold. I’m mostly recovered, but my fragrance & food preferences have changed a bit – this is probably temporary. Most of my summery fragrances suddenly aren’t getting it, and I’m suppressing a strong and sudden urge to cull the herd.
Also, it is rather weird to have no taste for coffee. But it’s summer anyway, very hot and muggy (with crazy storms and flash flooding overnight), so maybe it’s a good day for iced water or tea instead!
Have a great day, everyone!
Glad you are on the mend – don’t get rid of anything right now while your nose is off-kilter!
Was it the U2 show in Cleveland?
I had my first coffee in about a week this morning. I’ve also been suffering from a virus, but my craving for coffee this a.m. is a sign it’s on the wane.
Oddly, when my respiratory thing was at its worst last week most perfumes smelled overwhelming and strong, so I also had to switch it up a bit.
Today’s SOTD is vintage Hermes Amazone extrait, my first love from Hermes. I wore the heck out of it when I was a teenager back in the 80s. It was just sporty and soft enough that my mother loved it also.
I adore the combination of cassis, hyacinth, galbanum & oakmoss and can’t wait for the dry down a few hours from now.
I wore Amazone too in the 80’s, you smell great.
That sounds divine!
Walden will be read as long as humanity lives. Thank you, Thoreau. To celebrate the concept of civil desobedience, as well as the fall of the Bastille, will be wearing Champagne after my swimmig.
enjoy your swim!
Oh, you’ll smell lovely!
Thank you!
are you going swimming in Walden pond by any chance? http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/massparks/region-north/walden-pond-state-reservation.html
I went there very often when I lived in Boston for 2 years…
Wow, this is so cool, thank’s. Regular swimming pool…
Another stormy day here. Fingers crossed that we keep power this time. I needed a comfort scent today, so am wearing Chopard Casmir. Not vintage, but still pretty awesome. I wish I would gravitate more to warm weather scents, but I just don’t.
Oh, that used to be my signature scent in the 90’s! You smell wonderful!
Ditto!
I adore Casmir, remember wearing the heck out of it when it was first released back in the 90s. I think I oversprayed a bit, unfortunately. Either that or it bloomed in the FL heat and humidity! :O
I adore Casmir, remember wearing the heck out of it when it was first released back in the 90s. I think I over sprayed a bit, unfortunately. Either that or it bloomed in the FL heat and humidity! :O
You smell fantabulous! I looove Casmir! I have about 5mls left in my bottle which is probably considered vintage at this point.
I’m sure I’ve got a small bottle of this somewhere – I should go dig it out and wear it……thanks for the reminder!
Loved going here as a child.
http://www.lucytheelephant.org
That looks like a great place to take kids. When I was little I visited my Aunt out east, and she took us to a nature preserve place, I can’t remember the name, but Ricky Raccoon was the face of it.
I want to go!
I might just have to buy Adsam of India or Kenzo jungle especially for the trip – if I do I will report back 🙂
I’m in Songes today. How can one be anything other than cheerful in this lovely scent?!
I will wear that one on Friday 🙂 <3
You will cheer all those up around you by wearing Songes.
I have only smelt Eau de Charlotte and Songes, but I love the STRENGTH of these Annick Goutal scents, hoping the others are just as potent as I try more.
Don’t get your hopes up, some are fleeting.
The newest one, that was in Robin’s best of summer list is well done. Don’t be dissuaded by the pom pom, give it a try
good to know, thank you! Do you know which department store might have the best Annick Goutal offerings? I know they have a store in NY, but I am outside phili, so I could get to Saks or Neiman Marcus.
I would say Saks, Neiman Markups and Nordies would all carry AG scents.
I love many of the AGs, but lovestsg is right, some are fleeting (I’m looking at you, Eau d’Hadrien). BUT I love them so much that I just respray lol. I don’t know which stores carry them- certainly none in my area, so I just order samples and decants.
????
I’m wearing Carven ma Griffe vintage EDT. I bought a decant of of this a few months ago. Its really lovely.
My tea this morning is Twinings Irish Breakfast.
Lovely!
My mom recently told me this was one she wore when she was younger (60’s), I only remember her wearing Joy – but I recently asked her and she said: ma griffe, l’interdit, le de, and l’aire du temps. She said she could only afford a smaller bottle at a time, which she said they used to sell individually.
I adore Ma Griffe, such a beauty!
Your comment reminds me I need another cup of tea… 😉
I’m wearing Yes I Do from ELDO, which I assume is French? The first time I tried it I felt it was kind of meh, but today it seems lovely.
Started off in Memo Shams, then added a spritz of POTL Luctor et Emergo for a bit more sweetness. Yum!
Shams Oud or Shams Narcissus?
Shams Oud
You smell great! I love that Memo, I only have the sample you gave me, wish I had more.
Maybe it will be a Nicolai week for me . . . I’m in Fig Tea today, second one to sample from the discovery set.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful hump day!
Bonjour, tout le monde! I’m in my own private gorgeousness bubble in l’Ombre Dans l’Eau. Whenever I wear this one, I wonder why I don’t more often; it’s my favorite Diptyque, along with Philosykos.
Mmmm, those two are great. You smell fantastic!
Guerlain terracotta. Over burning leaves oil.
Hi Terracotta twin!
Triplets. It’s pretty nice in the heat. We smell awesome!
Been French this week, with Anatole LeBreton Grimoire today – a lovely dirty incense – MFK Lumiere Noire Femme yesterday and Le Labo Labdanum Monday. Some other things sprinkled in too!
I love Lumiere Noire pf.
It is so good, isn’t it?
French week is so easy! Yesterday I wore the office friendly Guerlain Attrape Coeur (office friendly because it wears so close to the skin), and today I’m in the only Sylvaine Delacourte perfume that did anything for me, Lilylang. I am not a big white musk fan, but I like it mixed with citrus and florals here.
I’m wearing Histoires de Parfums 1725.
Somehow in my mind I perceive it as perfect summery lavender scent.
Unshowered, unscented, and hanging out with a feverish toddler. I usually spray myself down with Cinq Mondes Eau Egyptienne when I don’t get a shower, and it’s looking like that kind of day . . .
Hope your toddler feels better soon.
When my kids were little and got sick I played a mental game with myself called “Pick Two.”
There is one rule for this game. It is that you must be in desperate need of
a shower,
a meal,
a clean shirt,
and a nap
all at the same time
BUT
you may only pick two of those
until tomorrow
and then you get to play the game again. 🙂
Hope your toddler is better as the day goes on. Today you have the prettiest fragrance name by far.
LOL – I did get a shower and a clean shirt but not the rest. I guess I picked two . . .
I’m wearing Panthere de Cartier from the bottle with the brass panther on top. I wish I had snagged one of the crystal ones when they were still around. I love this scent–a floral symphony–and one of the tamer offerings in the ’80s.
My mom and I both wore that one – you smell great.
At Day 1 of Gaze’s orientation at Virginia Tech. Hot outside, cold in the buildings, wearing Guerlain Charnel Elixir Floral Romantique.
Oh that brings back memories – my youngest went though orientation last summer. I hope you all have a wonderful time!!
SOTD is Guerlain “Songe d’un Bois d’été”. I selected it (before smelling it) as the name reminded my of the French landscape, with wooded hills above carefully-tended fields.
Notes: jasmine, patchouli, cedar, saffron, cardamom, myrrh, oud and laurel.
Now, after smelling this one it in no ways reminds me of the landscapes of France. But it is very lovely. I am enjoying the restrained smokiness, the warmth of the myrrh and saffron, the little sweet edge of jasmine. On to the shortlist it goes. I haven’t tried my sample of Tauer LAdDM yet, so I’ll hold off buying until I do.
I won’t be buying any more this month anyway – I got myself the BeauFort London leather roll travel set with the 5×7.5ml bottles, plus the 2 FBs I mentioned last week, and TOMK is getting me another for my birthday. That’s enough until August at least. :^D
I really enjoy that Guerlain, you smell great.
August will be here before you know it.
Oh that leather roll, how I want it. But I’d have to get my person interested in some of the perfumes other than fathom V, the only one I know I like.
Have you tried Azuree by Estee Lauder? One of my favorite mossy/herbal/leathers and reminiscent of the South of France (for me)…
Very chic but warning, one spritz only.
I shall look out for it!
Another Guerlain!
Wearing Au Coeur du Désert today. This is on my full bottle list. It has been really nice in the heat.
You smell great! I will have to try it in the heat. Do you prefer it to LADDM?
it’s been a while since I’ve worn LADDM, but from my memory this one seems creamier and smoother than the original.
I’d agree with your assessment. I also find it easier to wear. I love LADDM but it has so much movement and other things going on that it takes a real commitment to the ride for me to wear it. And I also love ACdD in the heat.
You smell absolutely wonderful!
Great scent! You smell lovely.
SsotD = Terracotta now and EdM later
Guerlain and Hermes are doing well today.
Chant Wagner wrote about Mademoiselle Rochas and Made-in-France Perfumery a few days ago. Though I don’t think I’ll ever smell that perfume, it was a good read:
http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scentedsalamander/2017/07/mademoiselle-rochas-review.html
Continuing the French theme in VC&A California Reverie. It makes me feel pretty and reminds me of home.
Just bought plane tickets to head to Nor Cal next month. I kept hoping price would come down, but I had to finally pull the trigger. My Dad is turning 90. Wondering if I can persuade him to take a road trip down to visit my sister in Ojai. CA Reverie makes me think of Ojai because of the orange blossom. I’ve also realized the Sonoma County Fair will be going on while I’m out there. My absolute favorite of the county fairs.
If you have time to swing downtown SF, there are several perfumistas in the SF/Bay area who frequently get together, a tradition that our dear Tama Blough started ages ago.
If you’re so inclined and have some time, feel free to email me at ldetrich at yahoo dot com to arrange a quick meet up.
🙂
Side note on VC&A…. I sometimes come across their jewelry ads or FB posts. They really do the most artistic and beautiful work. I’d love to see an exhibit of their creations someday.
I just ordered a decant of California Reverie. It is so pretty! Happy Birthday to your Dad…90 is quite an achievement.
I’ve been thinking about how one has to work to find perfumes that AREN’T French in one way or another. For example, Penhaligon’s Sartorial, inspired by a Saville Row tailor’s saloon (that’s the term on the website), was composed by French perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour. I also read somewhere that Duchaufour has been composing fragrances for one of the big Middle East brands, but he doesn’t sign them so I wasn’t able to identify which perfumes were his compositions.
Another poll idea would be to wear perfumes that are NOT French in any discernible way. 😉
It’s true, it’s probably harder!
Apart from indie brands, we’d really have to search!
I’ve been trying to get things accomplished today. Cleaned up the kitchen, did some vaccuming but lost motivation after that. Wearing the Amouage Memior bath stuff right now. Now it’s off to watch the Fellowship of the Ring.
I’m smelling very British, according to Jo Malone, in her Geranium & Verbena from the Rock of Ages collection. I’ll hop the Chunnel tomorrow and participate in the remainder of French week.
That sounds lovely.
Another day of random sampling in the morning…Champa Organic Perfume, Tom Ford White Suede (musk musk musk), Eris Night Flower (where is the animalic? this is a very soft cuddly white floral on my wonky skin), Creed Love in White (where is the sugar and rice? reminds me of Calyx, Cristalle and Pucci Virivani Sole 149 combined…love this one ALOT!), Oriza l Legrand Villa Lympia, A Lab on Fire Sweet Dreams(smells like something I wore in the 90s but can’t think of what at the moment…pleasant though), Biel Parfumkunstwerk Aturetto Landi 01 and vintage Gucci Envy. All worn off so I will be dipping into the sample sea very shortly!
and now sporting Tauer Sotto La Luna and Maroc Pour Elle which a younger family member confiscated before I could even try it!
Maroc smells like root beer now 🙂
Gucci Envy! Sigh….. I sure do miss that one. How did the vintage hold up?
I never wore it when it debuted so I can’t really compare pristine condition versus now…what I can say is that what I have I like very much 🙂
Winding down the day with some “fresh” sampling- Flower Market, A Scent, Ellie Saab, Eau de Cartier and Queen of Persia 🙂
Alaia Blanche. Will be going for a walk through the forest and snow later.
I dont know that fragrance but I envy your plans! Walking through forests in the snow is one of my favourite things.
Sounds wonderful, enjoy!
Morning all. It’s apparently going to be the coldest day of winter today, and Ibelieve the weather app for once. I’m wearing a cocoa-coloured cashmere jersey, and I really want yo wear Black Cashmere to go with it, but sticking with the project, I’m in FM’s Dries van Noten instead, and very nice it is. It’s warm and spicy, complex and interesting. My perfume will cheer up the day, as much as anything can…goodness, that sounded a bit Eeyore-Ish! I didn’t mean it to, but I’m hating this cold weather, and I’m surprised by the degree to which it’s affecting my sense (absence, actually) of well-being. I think I’d like to gather up my bottles of Black Cashmere, 31 Rue Cambon and Oiellet Bengale, put on my black dressing gown, and go and hibernate until September.
Be well, all.
If it’s any consolation, sounds like you look and smell great!
Wearing one of the Frenchiest French perfumes in my collection: Caron Parfum Sacré. I’m not sure why, but Caron is unmistakably, decidedly French in my mind.
May travel south and east in one of the Marnis when the Caron is gone.
Oh, nice choice! Caron doesn’t seem to get as much love as other old-school houses do.
I wonder why there isn’t much of a US presence of Caron? I’ve seen Caron online at Luckyscent, no where else. I’ve ordered Caron face powders, which are divine, from NY and was gifted some fragrance samples, which were quite nice.
I think Caron would get more love if they had done a better job on the reformulations? And possibly if they’d been bought up by someone other than the Ales Group.
Ah! I looked up the Ales Group and their brands – their Phyto line is sold in Sephora.
Another Guerlain: Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune.
I love the Guerlain AA line, Pampleune and Mandarine Basilic are my two favorites.
Shivering our way through the first real storm of the winter. We don’t have the snow that Kanuka has further south, but it’s wet, windy and cold. I’m thinking that Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir might be the sort of rich warm thing that will be comforting as I venture out for the fortunately short walk to work.
Ahhh I love Noir de Noir! You smell wonderful.
I adore NdN, such a warm and sensual perfume – you smell lovely! 🙂
I love hearing about winter in New Zealand in the middle of our horrible, hot, humid summer. Stay warm!
Good morning from Kauai! I’m a little jet-lagged but got an earlyish start this am. Just had breakfast and had passion fruit in its raw form for the first time, though the little juicy pearls were removed for eating. Maybe it was from a can. Delish.
The hotel grounds are quite pretty and I’m trying to identify different species of plants. I identified the magnolia because it smells exactly like FM Eau de Magnolia! A few varieties of white flowers- jasmine mostly.
Hawaii demographics: native Hawaiians are only a tiny percentage of the population with Philipinos being the largest group in Hawaii. I did not know that the largest native Hawaiian population is now in Las Vegas!
SOTD Oriza Legrand Deja le Printemps. Green and grassy and French.
How wonderful! I love Hawaii. Have some POG juice for me. 🙂
Had some, but on the plane!
Enjoy your vacation!
Thanks!
Glad you are having a relaxing time. The passion fruit was fresh or canned? I really love the fresh fruit. Now that you have tried it for the first time, how would you compare it to the opening of Arielle Shoshana EDP? Just curious. Keep enjoying your time in Kauai 🙂
I’m not sure, but I suspect it was canned. I haven’t tried AS perfume yet so I’m no help there!
Have a wonderful time! Buy yourself a lei and wear it to dinner. The smell! Especially if you find a ginger one.
Yaaaay! Have a fabulous time in paradise!
Getting with hot weather, French perfumes today. SOTD = AG Ninfeo Mio, from the sample stash and a generous NSTer. Tunes of the day = Dream Theater, “Images and Words”.
Kpaint, this is for you. My adventures during my Internet break can be described briefly as the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good: I had Persian food at a favorite restaurant in north Jersey. Also had bubble tea, which is a favorite treat of mine, and tried a new cocktail, pink grapefruit and rosewater mojitos, at another restaurant. The bad: Had a near miss (accident) coming back from the gaming convention I was at. Not casino gaming, but stuff like board games, tabletop RPGs, card games, and LARPS. I am currently affiliated with the organization that runs that convention, so not naming them publicly. The ugly: not gonna touch that. There was some, and there are reprecussions due to it. I’m waiting now to see what the fallout is.
I am not Kpaint but I want a pink grapefruit and rosewater mojito!
Interesting – and good luck, Jalapeño!
Hello from Vancouver! It’s my first time back since the early 90s and the airport had changed quite a bit and it is aesthetically better. Hopefully, my next experience on my way out the airport is not a harbinger of things to come. You see, I was randomly selected to go through a customs check! Of course, since I trailied behind my sister and family, they had no clue that I was directed to customs and although there were no signs in the room, I don’t think I’m allowed to use my cell phone. Anyway, only my small carry-on and a small second luggage was checked. Bad tbey opened the big suitcase, they would have seen a rigid plastic case full of decants and my cute FBs of Hermes Bleue and No.5 L’Eau and then I have to explain my obsession. Anyway, all told, I was missing in action for 25 minutes and my sister was about to have me paged!
I decided to be commando today because I can still smell Mon Guerlain (SOTD yesterday) despite having taken a shower and wearing different clothes!
I have to adjust my vacation goals because I left my fitbit at home!
Perfume terrorist !!
LOL. 😉
The times we are living in.
Enjoy, hajusuuri!
Bon Voyage, hajusuuri! Vancouver (one of my favorite cities) is lucky to have you as you waft your way north. 😉
Glad they didn’t confiscate any of the juice! 🙂
Luckyscent carries Ormonde Jayne
Omg! And they have sample packs available- thanks for the heads up!
