Hump Day, folks! What fragrance are you wearing?
Update: I am using a new spam filter and a few people have been blocked from commenting for no good reason. My apologies — I am working on it! Meantime, if you let me know you've been blocked, I'll unblock you.
I'm commando at the moment, but hope to do some testing in the afternoon. My sporting plans for today: paddleboarding, plus possibly some competitive eating.
Reminder: on 7/7 we're doing Sports Friday...wear a sports scent! If you just can't go there, wear the sort of fragrance you think one might actually wear while doing something sporty.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: The ISLE Voyager Wood Paddle Board Package (I think by package, they mean it comes with the oar?) is $1,045 at Isle.
Vintage Bel Ami by Hermes, leather and bitter bitter green herbs. It took me decades to appreciate how good this is.
Ohhhhhhhh, you smell absolutely wonderful.
As Luca Turin said, “Listen to it carefully, and you won’t need to read The Art of Worldly Wisdom by Baltasar Gracian.”
(That’s from his review of Chanel Pour Homme, but I’ve always thought he should have reserved it for vintage Bel Ami.)
how intriguing!
what determination!
I’m going to throw in this link to shopgoodwill.com if it’s ok, seemed serendipitous that I just read these comments and headed over to Goodwill to check out perfumes
https://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions/BelAmi-Toilette-Hermes-Paris-Spray-41040866.html
Not affiliated, obviously. Some really good items show up here sometimes but shipping costs can be ridiculous.
Competitive eating? Sounds like my kind of vacation !!!
My SOTD is Mito. This was a vero.perfumo scent I had once tried and dismissed, but thanks to a fragrant friend insisting that I take a small decant to retry, I realize it is a perfect chypre on me.
Full bottle is en route
Congrats on that wonderful purchase!
Competitive eating? Loved that one!
Wearing rose & incense under a name of Pink Quartz from Olivier Durbano.
Lucas!
I tried commenting on your blog (for first time, I discovered it a year ago though, I like your writing a lot, hope to see you do at least another 5 year :), can you find out if I ended up in the spam-bin? Or maybe I did something wrong…then I’ll look at it when I have more time. Still try to find out the relation between WordPress / Gravatar and commenting on all the blogs. Sometimes I have to login, and sometimes a mailadress is sufficient…
Did a quic investigation, it indeed landed in spam folder for some reason. I manually moved it to valid comments – from now on there shouldn’t be a problem.
Thank you!
My pleasure
Thanks for being a reader
Jiji, I’m glad to see that someone else also finds this confusing. If a blog asks me to actually log in to a menu of accounts, whatever I try doesn’t seem to work.
…and also what name (nick or real name) /info it shows where when and how.
Now I am not even crazy worried about you guys finding out my real name.
(I use a nick, because its more vice versa, I dont want HR people who google my name when I am job hunting to find my blog comments on top of the page)
….but a lot of people are, and for good reasons!
So they needs to offer a more transparent and usable way to handle it.
I have a lot of experience working with WordPress, so the fact that I cannot figure it out means a lot.
But I think it also depends on the kind of plugin and comment-settings the site-admin uses to handle the gravatar/wp-accounts of the comments.
I’ve found that using Bloglovin’ has helped with any issues I’ve had with logging in or commenting on blogs. You can find most blogs on there, and content arrives in one email as opposed to several. And of course, there’s an app!
Waking up to Chemist in the Bottle must be nice
You smell great, Pink Quartz is an underrated scent.
Back to work (sigh!) In Byredo Pulp (thanks to the extreme generosity of Flopper). I have always loved Pulp and today is helping me to face a crazy, busy day of meetings and working super late. Coffee and more coffee. Have a great day everyone!
Sorry! Hope Pulp + coffee carries you through.
Yay!!! Spray on! Have a great day!
Thank You!!! You too have a great one!
Rosa Sur Reuse –one of my all-time favorites
That’s a pretty one.
I haven’t posted much but i have to give a huge thank you to NSt and its commenters/ the perfume community online as a whole.
I’ve been accepted into IFF-ISPICA’s 3-year MSC program in Scent Design and Creation in Versailles, France. I’m so thrilled and excited and didn’t mention it at all before because I was so nervous it wouldn’t happen. I’m 1 of 20 students worldwide who has been accepted. Thank you so much for giving me a place here.
I couldn’t have done it without this blog and community, and everyone who has made it possible to learn about fragrance without having a background.
It’s all too good to be true. Thank you so much for everything.
Wow, congrats.
I wanted to apply to ISIPCA but it just costs too much money and there was only 1 faculty group that had their classes in English (otherwise it was all French)
I’m kind of green with envy now [cries]
Oh, how exciting – congratulations!
I hope you’ll post here occasionally about your experience. Best of luck!
Yowza! That’s fantastic! Congrats on top of congrats!????

Wow. What an opportunity! Congratulations.
Ambre Fétiche
MMMMM…….
great name
Must try this one, it’s been on my list for ages, and I love so many Goutal’s. I’m sure u smell wonderful!
Mayfly, pop over to Fragrantica and see if you can see my perfume collection. (I have no idea what settings would make it public or private). About half of what is listed there are FBs that I can make you a sample from, or swap a larger decant. I have an FB of Ambre Fetiche on the way. Comment back here if you want to take it further. :^)
It could be a nice fragrance to wear while doing yoga or meditation
You are on a Goutal roll aren’t you?
yes..
I have no idea why. Not even my favorite fragrance house. No offense to Annick Goutal.
Its like when I have coffee in the morning, I feel like I am cheating on all my containers of tea! I am sure my Guerlain’s, Chanel’s, and Alahiiine are not happy collecting dust
Absolute Pour Le Soir
I prefer Grand Soir, but that’s just me
I like that one too…but Absolute was a gift from my best friend…she generously gave me a 10ml decant….so EVERYTIME i wear it I think of her which makes it doubly special
Such a luscious scent
It really is….and in the summer heat the honey is amped up and it is so creamy and delicious.
I’m going to attempt to wear this on Friday, we shall see how it goes. I have another remember? question for you, do you remember or did you ever wear Lancaster Sunwater? I thought of this last night when I was thinking of perfumes I have had that might be considered sporty.
I remember it but never wore it. And in revisiting the notes on fragrantica it sounds fantastic….I think you should wear it….definitely fits the sporty theme based on the notes.
Scent twins! It does very well in the heat.
I know , right? I did not think it would but I made a false assumption
TM Angel Eau Sucree
Yum.
CdG Grace today. I have jury duty, and the air conditioning is out at the Judicial Center. In Texas, in July. Oh my!
Oh no! No! No! They need to reschedule that! I consider that a health hazard! BUT- pretty sure you will be best smelling sweaty person in the room????
Agree with all of this. And seriously, I would not want to be the person on trial under such circumstances.
Oh no.
I’d be packing my little handheld fan in my purse… with extra batteries.
Surely there will never be a better opportunity to use a traditional hand-held fan, like in old movies of courtroom scenes. :^)
I hope they have fans.
SOTD is deodorant. How exciting! I ran out the door this morning in such a hurry and have a whole list of “tasks” to accomplish. I’m trying not to look at it because it exhausts me! I’ve basically revamped the whole van layout because you live and learn, and I paked a bunch of stuff I didn’t need and missed a lot of stuff that I do need. Like my perfumes!
Robin, have a great time paddleboarding! I still haven’t made it to the upright position and I blame it all on T-Rex! Also haven’t had much of a chance to practice, and then because, you know, SHARKS! Leaving a few days early and I’m going to camp on a lake (with no SHARKS!) and hoping the get a lot of practice there.
I may be a bit unreasonable about SHARKS!????
Sounds like a good reason to me!
Not unreasonable AT ALL.
Twins in our deodorant.
????????5, deodorant twin!
I am on a lake, which is quite different, but I do most truly believe that if I can manage a paddleboard on a lake, so can anyone on earth. I can even manage it with clothing instead of a bathing suit, if I’m in such a rush to get on a lake — I have never fallen off. And I am the most non-sporty klutz you can imagine.
Paddleboarding in the ocean is probably more than my limited skills would allow.
I’m cheering you on in you “uprighted super skills!” Have tons of fun ????
Just wait until you see how easy it is on a lake!
It is also very calming, for some reason. Kayaking is also peaceful and de-stressing, but paddleboarding is even more so — it clears the mind almost immediately.
La Via del Profumo makes a fragrance that he describes as “anti-sharks.” I’ve always assumed it must be a faulty translation, but maybe sharks don’t like perfume.
You know, I would almost be tempted by that, but it’s not really me I worry about. The dog is still adjusting and is not keen on being in water where she can’t touch the bottom. Hence, a lot of splashing to and fro. I read an article once not long ago by a “shark expert,” who said swimming with dogs is like ringing a dinner bell for sharks. They are the right size prey and they make a lot of “noise” (even “water breeds” that swim quite well) that is irresistible to hungry sharks????
Sharks. Oh gracious. I may not sleep tonight.
So I have been a surfer in Santa Cruz CA, and getting back to that on the top of my to-do-when-I-retire list
We have plenty of great whites here. But it’s a whole lot more risky to get in your car to drive to the beach than it is to be out there in the water! So perhaps you can take comfort in that idea.
Or, paint the bottom of your paddleboard to look like the underside of a killer whale. Supposedly sharks give killer whales a wide berth. I do know some surfers who’ve done that!
Just chiming in to say: I love that you surf!!
It’s supposed to reach a million degrees here today (okay, 90-plus), so I went with the very dry and lovely Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur.
So lovely.
A million degrees! You must be my next door neighbor????
Hmmm… maybe i will wear that one today as well .. love it!
La Douceur de Siam by Dusita today. Lovely and short-lived. I need to seek out a spray sample of this one. The dabber I have isn’t foing it justice.
I’ll be switching to Fleuriste by DSH shortly.
My package with little decants of Buterbaugh Apollo Hyacinth, TF Vert de Fleur, and Guerlain Charnel Elixir Floral Romantique arrived Monday, so I’m luxuriating.
I adore Floral Romantique all out of proportion to what it basically is (a very well-blended white floral with a beautiful drydown), but The CEO says, “That smells like your skin, only better,” so.
The Vert de Fleur smells like a green memory of my 70s childhood. Good stuff.
Ooh these sound gorgeous, will have to try the vert de Fleur again soon.
Oh what a perfect perfume for you the Guerlain must be! The perfume equivalent of barely-there natural makeup.
First day back to work from vacation, in which I was off for 6 business days not including yesterday’s holiday. I’m ready to be back to normal.
SoTD will be April Aromatics Tempted Muse because of a funny incident that just occurred. I have perfume samples and decants all over my coffee table, and as I set down my mug full of coffee, some spilled over the sides. It got on one of my perfumes, a long, cylindrical L’Artisan travel spray, so I lifted it to clean it off. A nearby sample had attached itself to the L’Artisan, and as I lifted it, the sample unstuck itself right into my full cup of coffee below! I had to excavate the sample by pouring most of the coffee down the drain. I’m hoping no coffee got inside the sample vial!
Oops forgot to say that Tempted Muse was the fallen sample.
Ha! Ugh. Wasted coffee???? But good you salvaged the sample!
I was burning a Pacific French Lilac candle on my kitchen table and an open bar of chocolate was sitting on the same table. I went to eat the chocolate later and it tasted strongly of perfumy lilacs, and not in a good, artisanal kind of way.
I tried paring down my bottles yesterday, and was only able to part with four. Plus one I gave to my daughter ( I think technically that doesn’t count ). Working tonight, thought I would jazz up the place wearing Black Opium shimmer lotion. The other day I smelled Aromatics Elixer on a customer, it smelled so good. I would love to smell the Black Cherry version Jonahob mentioned the other day.
The Black Cherry is not easy to come by…they must have discontinued it for at one point Clinique was selling a full bottle for half price….you might find it on ebay.
After cleaning out my bathroom cabinets and medicine cabinets I decided to bring up some of my full bottles of Dame because a) they look nice and b) I need to start spraying them on my body-LOL! I know the bathroom is the worst possible place to keep them but if I continue to store them in my basement I will never use them…also, it will encourage younger family members to spray as well
I have the Black Cherry one and will happily send you some. Find me at gmail where I am sherainsocal.
Good morning (or evening) everybody, I have a question and need ideas. A friend and his family are traveling to Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto). I introduced them to niche perfume, and they’ve kindly offered to bring back something for me.
I know I’ve read a couple of articles about Japanese niche perfumers, but the only one I can find is Parfums Satori, which is now mostly available at Luckyscent. Do you know of any others?
Or any Japan exclusives that might be interesting?
POp over to the Black Naricissus perfume blog and you might find some ideas there or pose the question directly to him.
I love that blog! Can’t figure out how to comment on it, though.
But I’ve been combing through it for information on his vintage shopping adventures.
I am pretty sure you can comment through your email….just hit the comment button and it asks for your name and email address.
Unfortunately, after I do that, it wants my WordPress.com password. I did have to set up a WordPress account at one point in order to get a gravatar. However, when I try that password, it doesn’t work. I suppose I could try resetting the password, but I’m afraid I might somehow lose the link to the gravatar.
noznkoz, see my comment above about Bloglovin’. That should solve your dilemma.
WordPress and gravatar linked by your wordpress account.
So resetting WordPress password should not have impact on Gravatar or its settings.
I had same issue when I tried to comment on Lucas blog, I reset my WP password and no problems with my gravatar.
that is so nice of them, good luck with finding your special Japanese perfume gift
No help here, but I just noticed that Tokyo and Kyoto are anagrams and couldn’t stop myself from mentioning it.
I’ve always wondered why they are so similar. It’s very curious!
The “kyo” they have in common is the character for “capital”: Tokyo is literally “Eastern Capital” and Kyoto is literally “Capital City” (as indeed it was for more than a thousand years, until Edo was renamed Tokyo in 1868 and the Imperial household was moved there from Kyoto).
There are some Shiseido perfumes made only for the Japanese market that might be interesting. I remember White Rose and Murasaki.
Thanks, cazaubon, that’s a good idea.
Had a really nice 4th and the Macy’s fireworks were pretty spectacular this year. The local competing fireworks that went on til 2am were less than spectacular, though.
SOTD Carnal Flower for a beautiful, sunny day.
yes..the fireworks kept going and going…
Bet you had an incredible view. We benefitted from the change in barge location and were able to walk to the tiny park at the end of our street and see the show. Rare that you can show up five minutes before and be home five minutes after….
We did have a great view and surprisingly not packed where we were. I think the moved them higher up this year? Just glad they’re back on the East River. Nice that it was in a good spot for you.
you smell wonderful!
Thanks!
PdN Juste un Reve
from a sample, very nice
typing French names is so difficult with “autocorrect”
agreed
Safran Troublant is Saffron Troubling to my autocorrect.
Ok, now that I’m actually thinking of the name of Safran Troublant, why is it called that? It doesn’t seem disturbing or troubling to me at all–just gorgeous. (Unrelated to your point, I know.)
I have no idea, but maybe a question for someone who speaks French better than I do… Maybe troublant could translate as mysterious or something?
I think “troublant” also means “seductive” or something, which is not my experience of ST at all, but does make more sense!
It can mean troubling in a thrilling way, I believe —the kind of troubling that puts unwholesome carnal thoughts into your head.
I turned autocorrect off for that reason.
SOTD is TokyoMilk Ex Libris, a cool green fig that I could certainly wear doing sports if sports were a thing I did… I shall wear it to yoga which is basically a sport.
I was groggy and in a hurry this morning and walked right out and FORGOT perfume! First time that’s happened in a long while ha! I guess the good news is that it gives me plenty of time to decide what I want to wear this evening. You all smell great, though!
The first time I did that I was so disoriented I packed a sample bag for my purse that very day. Now I’m prepared for any and all perfume emergencies!
I seriously thought the same thing- I need to have several in my desk drawer for “emergency” purposes.
Did I miss the damage poll? Was it posted yesterday? I can’t find it.
My vacation is so vacation-ish that I literally remembered the damage poll around 11 pm last night. Seemed silly to post it that late so I have just posted it this morning.
Im wearing Mandarin Glaciale. Again, my sport is baking. Pita bread this time.
Oooh, I’ll bet that bread is amazing! (Your definition of “sport” has also opened up new possibilities
)
Commando at the moment — and I went paddleboarding this weekend. So much fun!
Isn’t it? I wish I lived on a lake and could paddleboard every morning.
SOTD mystery decant – it is green and citrusy and delightful, and I don’t have the faintest idea what it is!
I have a mystery decant too and it’s bugging the heck out of me.
Wearing an older Aveda, Ancient Attar. Ideal for the sport of yoga.
Perfect.
Those paddle boards look lovely! Robin, your vacation sounds like it’s going swimmingly (yes, I’m proud of that awful pun).
I found a little reusable travel squeeze bottle of body wash in the cabinet while going through a purge of bathroom-related products, and decided to use it up so I could wash it out for reuse. I have no idea what it is, but OH MY GOD it’s the most GORGEOUS sandalwood scent!!!! I wish I knew what body wash it is! Very lightly sweet and ambered, but mostly just a wave of sandalwood. I don’t think it’s the l’Occitane sandalwood shower gel; that one’s a bit too sweet and heavy for me. Any other ideas? I’d love to find it again.
Today I’m wearing Lonesome Rider again. A friend gets flowers and gasoline; I get barbecue by a wood fire. Weird, but we both love it.
Ha! The paddleboard I am using is fiberglass, not mine, and not that pretty.
And now I want to know what shower gel it is too.
Hope you figure it out and share the info!
You smell great. (I get campfires, iris and gasoline when I wear Lonesome Rider.)
You smell wonderful!
Did you ever have any Etro shower gels? I have a mini bottle of Palais Jamais shower gel from a hotel that is heavenly. I wonder if they made one in Santalo.
I don’t remember ever buying an Etro shower gel, but actually, that’s an excellent point. I do tend to hold onto hotel shower gels, and I know I have some hotel Etro hand lotion (not the same scent). I will look into this idea of yours a bit more.
Maintaining yesterday’s delicious momentum in Neroli Portofino. How is an essentially classic neroli-heavy eau de cologne fragrance so freakin’ sexy?
SotD = Barbara Bui Le Parfum
BB is comforting after yesterday’s celebratory over-exertions. It hovers gently above the skin in a wonderful incense-y way though I don’t get any smoke. It’s sweetly woody, powdery-musky and cool. A pretty bottle too. I want to spend more time with neglected favorites. This is a good one.
I love it too, and would never have bought it without seeing the comments on NST.
Me too! I think ElisaP and ringthing mentioned BB on NST. I’m so glad I tried it. It is very different from most of the other scents I like. My default is the typical aldehydes/citrus, florals, vanilla/woods.
Lovely! I haven’t tried it in warm weather but now I want to.
Do it! For science!
BB in the heat was quite nice today, I spritzed my arms very softly, and it kept me company all afternoon.
SOTD = Coach Leatherware No. 2
Warm peppery spicy leather. The only claim to Sporty is the baseball glove accord. Here’s Angela’s review of all 3 scents in this series, sadly discontinued but I managed to snag all 3 for perfumath free:
https://nstperfume.com/2013/11/25/coach-leatherware-nos-1-2-and-3-fragrance-review/
In this episode of Don’t you hate it when …:
You’re the only person walking into an empty elevator and it smells like B.O. (dirty socks, fart, bad breath, stale cigarette smoke, alcohol haze) and the elevator picks up other people on another floor and they look judgmental? You are mortified because there’s no one else to blame.
That made me laugh. Especially mortifying to a perfumista!
So my experience today was the B.O. plus spicy cuminy food smell. I’m on the top floor of the elevator bank and it went straight down to rhe lobby and when the doors opened, someone was waiting to get on. I turned my head to the side so the person only got a brief glimpse of me.
I initially misread BO as BBQ and got very confused about why that would be distasteful (and also what kind of BBQ you were eating, if it smelled like farts to you).
Eeek, now I can’t unsee BO = BBQ! Not that I eat much BBQ but this may be an effective appetite suppressant.
This happened to my boss once. I advised him next time he gets into an empty elevator and it smells bad, take the stairs or wait for another elevator.
This is a great idea!
I had similar fears recently when I used the (single stall) bathroom at my doctor’s office the other day. I walked in and it was a freaking MESS (in every way imaginable, including olfactorily.) I spent my time in there trying to figure out how to say “It wasn’t me!” in a convincing way lest someone walk in just as I was walking out. Fortunately, I didn’t have to use the line (and unfortunately I did have to use that nasty bathroom.)
Oh my! And while no public restroom is truly clean, the ones in a hospital / doctors’ office tend to have that extra possibility of “sick” germs.
I always feel nervous about using a stinky bathroom, too! I haven’t figured out if making a show of how much the smell bothers me would convince other people that it wasn’t me, or if it would just make them think I was trying to pretend it wasn’t me.
Stash an emergency sample-size perfume spray in your pocket, waistband, or bra strap for those unpleasant solo elevator rides.
L’envol, from the split meet. It’s delightful and maybe kind of sporty?
Great for all elegant sports. I think it would do well while playing golf.
Love it. You smell great.
I’m wearing Manoumalia which would be great while belly dancing. It worked very well for me too while exploring the sales in Antwerp!
I think competitive eating would be the only sport that I would be able to reach a level in, worthy of participation in the Olympics.
Manoumalia is the best! You smell great.
It is!
Papillon Anubis today. I wore Issara yesterday…add another full bottle I want to the list.
You smell great.
Bois Blond by Parfumerie Generale was calling to me when I woke up today, so that’s what I’m wearing. I smell faboo. (Autocorrect tried to turn faboo into Fabio, which made me laugh. I wonder what Fabio smells like?)
Axe body spray?
SOTD is Elements of Chi “Fire”, the 3rd of 5 scents supposedly inspired by the 5 elements of ancient Chinese something-or-other.
Top: red cedar, cinnamon, bitter orange and ginger;
Mid: rose oil, geranium, red currant and neroli;
Base: cashmere wood, red pepper and moroccan rose.
This one smells okay, if not especially inspired. Each Chinese element has its traditional colour, but choosing the ingredients of a perfume because of their colour is, well, maybe not always a guarantee of a great scent. Anyhow, I can’t get all fired up about it – boom, boom! ;^P
If you ever have a chance, try Iunx Splash Forte. The juice is a soft red, and it’s red cedar goodness is rather thrilling.
Are you beginning to get nervous that you might not find your element? What happens then? I noticed the other day that star signs also have perfume matches ( basenotes) so there’s that…once you get cast off into elemental no man’s land.
Rose Privée. Nothing sporty going on here, just discovering the world of roses.
I really enjoy this one! I need to investigate the herbs and roses subcategory some more.
Started this very hot day with Terracota, reapplied with my new sample of Eau de Magnolia, which is lovely, managing to be both fresh and creamy, lovely in the heat, I imagine I’d reach for this a lot if i had a bottle.
That sounds like a good layering combo!
I’ve been wearing Kenzo Eau de Fleur de Magnolia this summer. I really like its green freshness.
I am off today and I am bathed in Lyric Woman. I love having Amouage bath stuff. The bath stuff works better when it’s summer because sometimes spraying Amouage in the summer can be overwhelming.
Ack must resist temptation – got an e-mail from Chanel that Gabrielle EDP is ready to purchase before it goes on sale 8/19.
Wearing MdO Musc again.
I’m looking forward to trying that one. Polge The Younger has done a rather brilliant job with the biographical perfumes thus far, IMO.
The notes on this sound right up my alley. When you try it do report back on what you think!
Polge the Younger… love that. ❤️
I’m wearing Pacifica Mediterranean Fig today. I hadn’t worn this one in a long time and I forgot how much I like it.
I awoke this morning from a dream that I had forgotten my computer password, and that I had a new boss who dumped a huge amount of work on me. Clearly I did not want to return to work today.
I got to work and found that the fan system is set to ‘hurricane’ and nobody seems to know how to make it stop. It’s so loud it’s hard to have a conversation. And it’s cold. I’m bundled up in my office sweater over my summer clothes.
Grump! SOTD is Parfumerie Generale Entre Ciel Et Mer, a light beachy scent. Wish I were at the beach instead of in a howling cold windstorm at work.
Not an auspicious return! Hope the tundra is quickly fixed
If you pour enough water into something electrical it will probably stop. Technically, this is not a recommendation. Just an observation.
Excellent idea, but the fans in question are 20 feet up, somewhere in the ceiling, blowing furiously out the ceiling vents.
My company is moving to a new building at the end of the year; this building will then be torn down to build more condos. I suspect we will be subject to plenty of ‘benign neglect’ by the building owners between now and then….
Morning, all. I’m working at home today because I’m in the sort of testy mood that can escalate a mild disagreement into a full-scale confrontation in about 45 seconds. No idea what’s the matter with me: I’m not the most calm person in Auckland, but I’m not usually so volatile. Ah well, I dare say I’ll recover my equilibrium.
I’m wearing Vanilla Flash: I’ve decided it’s lovely. It sort of bends over me in a wrap of beautiful colours all tightly woven. If I concentrate very hard, I can see the thread of colour that is vanilla, but it’s so much part of a pretty overall pattern that it’s just a glimpse here and there. It’s just right for this miserable day.
Be well and flagrantly fragrant, NST.
Admit it: ‘fessing up to Donatella has you rattled.
Hmmm…must be that!
There wasn’t anything I really wanted to wear today, so it took me a while to make up my mind! But I’m trying to get to know Eau de Merveilles a little bit better, so that’s where I landed.
Have the house to myself for the next ten days or so, and have Big Dreams about what I can do – anything to avoid my dissertation right? – and fingers crossed that I can realize some of them. (But I’d really just love it if someone replied to one of my MANY job applications, sigh.)
Very good luck with the job search, and hope you will get some lovely project done!
Yay for Eau des Merveilles! You smell fabulous today. And best of luck in enjoying your quiet time and in the job search. Adventure is out there!
(My favorite line from the movie “Up”.)
Hang in there! I put in 40 or 50 applications before I finally got my current job.
I am twins with CM8 today in Absolue pour le Soir. It’s hot and dry and AplS smells beautiful.
Today I am trying to encourage my enormous tomato plant to do something other than produce flowers. There are 30 flowers on it in various stages and not a single tiny tomato. I have given the plant a stern talking-to, since gentle encouragement did not work, and I am prepared to escalate into scolding if need be.
you are smelling delicious, foxbins! I love the honey note
I’ve only gotten the same results trying to grow tomatoes, though I think you get a bit more heat and sun down there.
Some day I hope to try APLS. The MFK sample sets are a smashing deal, but that fragrance is not offered in the set, unfortunately.
I believe APLS is discontinued. He may still produce the Cologne pour le Soir which is an arier version.
Beautiful sunny summer day, involving swimming in an outdoor pool, ice cream and a nap. Now I’m lounging in Fève Délicieuse.
It doesn’t get much better than that!
speaking of bottles on my to buy list…
That’s a wonderful day. ????????
The heat has returned with a vengeance here, so only fresh and light fragrances are in the forecast for the foreseeable future. Today I’m enjoying the lovely AdP Magnolia Nobile.
Wednesday means yoga, which means a tiny amount of Eau de Merveilles applied under my T-shirt to be enjoyed during downward-facing dog.
EdM + yoga = delightful
Woke up to a gorgeous summer day (which I decided is officially the first day of summer here.) Started by spraying Dame Freesia (did not love,) then the last of a 28 La Pausa decant (which I do like very very much,) then accidentally drenched myself in O de Lancôme (which I also do not love.)
I’d really like a cologne-style summer fragrance that is citrusy, but without oakmoss (or other mosses) and without spices. Am I just barking up the wrong perfume tree? Any recommendations?
Will be Cristalle or No 19 later, me thinks.
What have you tryied that was too mossy or spicy? I think there are tons of citrusy things out there. Have you tried Chanel Eau de Cologne or any of the Guerlain colognes? Or the Hermes Eaux (Rhubarb, Orange Verte, Pamplemousse Rose, etc.)
For orange, try AA Mandarine Basilic or Atelier Orange Sanguine. For lime, AA Herba Fresca is amazing! Probably my favorite summer perfume. For lemon, try Carthusia Mediterraneo, Fresh Brown Sugar or Lemon Sugar (maybe too sweet, but I love the lemon in Brown Sugar), or Lostmarch Din Dan. PdN makes several summery Eaux as well – L’eau Mixte is one of my faves. Also check any of the Aqua Allegorias, Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom
Too mossy: O de Lancôme (I am a moss wimp)
Too spicy: all of the citrus Ateliers
I’ve not tried the Chanel Eau de Cologne and maybe I should. I have tried almost all of your other suggestions (I love Mediterraneo and have a bottle of the Pacifica I should pull out again.) Like Goldilocks, I’m looking for something that’s just right
I do recall being fond of Fresh Brown Sugar (with the very green lemon note.) Maybe I should try that one again.
I second odonata9’s suggestion of Pacifica Malibu Lemmon Blossom–it’s one of my summer faves.
Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant
Profumum Roma Acqua Viva
I looked at Profumum Roma Acqua Viva recently, which sounds perfect. But DANG that is some pricey stuff!
Agree that Orange Sanguine and Cedrat Enivrant are great citrus scents, also Oolang Infini and Grand Neroli.
The sample set from Atelier Cologne is one my favorite purchases ever. So many scents to try. You might be surprised to find you like the non-citrusy ones as much or more than the citrus. I enjoy Bois Blonds, Trefle Pur, and Mistral Patchouli.
I’ve got one of those sample sets, and love a lot of them. But the citrus ones are too heavy with spices for me to want to wear in summer.
I see what you mean, the Ateliers can be a bit heavy considering they are cologne-style. What about Jour d’Hermes? It works for me as a cologne-adjacent citrus-y fragrance in the warm weather.
I’m in box of eels and a small dab of Avon Wild Country, from a yellow, car-shaped bottle. It’s from the 70’s or 80’s, from what I see on eBay and Etsy.
Found it this morning at a consignment shop, and it’s not bad, kinda soft and powdery.
It’s yellow, smells nice, was five bucks and it made me giggle. I guess that’s all I needed from my fragrance today. I probably just lost any perfume cred I may have had…
You’re perfume cred goes up when you’re adventurous.
Thanks! I’m trying. ????
Wearing Auphorie Eau de Formosa. I don’t love it — too sweet for me. Too bad because I’m kind of a Taiwanophile and would love to have a Taiwan-themed perfume. Don’t know of another one. I ordered samples of basically all their scents; my favorite so far is Tresors de Sriwijaya.
SOTD is Dame Perfumery Bergamot, Jasmine & Labdanum.
I was going to wear something Dame yesterday for the 4th since it’s an American brand, but 31 Rue Cambon was calling my name. I figured it was just as good to thank France for helping us out.???? So I wore the Dame today.
Now it’s off to the Damage Poll….
I have not tried this!
It’s a well-blended non-indolic jasmine. I find it reminiscent of Guerlain Chant d’Arômes–but more floral/less woody. I really like it.
