Serge Lutens Dent de Lait & Bourreau des Fleurs ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 1 July 2017 20 Comments

Serge Lutens Dent de Lait

French niche house Serge Lutens is repackaging and streamlining its fragrance offerings, and introducing two new scents. Dent de Lait (milk tooth) joins the Collection Noire, which will merge the prior Collection Noire and Collection Beige fragrances, and be offered in 100 ml instead of 50 ml. Bourreau des Fleurs (executioner of flowers) joins the luxury Section d’Or series.

Dent de Lait (shown) ~ inspired by childhood, reportedly with notes of milk, metallic notes, incense, heliotrope and almond. €180 for 100 ml.

Bourreau des Fleurs ~ a fragrance without floral notes, reportedly with smoky woods. €480 for 50 ml.

Serge Lutens Dent de Lait is available now at the Serge Lutens Palais Royal boutique in Paris, and will go into worldwide distribution in September.

does this mean “baby teeth” in French? I guess I could look that up… Maybe the perfume has a bite, but not too big a bite. Or it’s milky? Sounds interesting.

      Baby tooth or milk tooth.

I’m very disappointed that the new bottles will be 100 mL, which is far too much for me, both in volume and in price: even 50 mL is really more than I need, and with the increased cost (180 euros is almost $270 Canadian, about double my price ceiling), it’s pretty clear I’ll never buy another Lutens, which makes me sad. I guess I’ll try this when I see it, though, just to say I did.

I think nearly every perfumista on earth joins you in disappointment. Stupid size, stupid price, plus discontinued favorites. It’s all bad news, and I don’t even much care about the new fragrances.

They’re discontinuing more perfumes? What are we stocking up on? :(

Well, first off, anything you want in 50 ml!

But also, supposedly, Arabie, Bas de Soie, Sa Majeste La Rose, A La Nuit, Gris Clair, Jeux de Peau, Daim Blond, Cedre, Serge Noire, Fille en Aiguilles, and Vitriol d”Oillet.

I took that list from a comment by Jalapeno on the SOTD on 6/9, I believe she got it from Basenotes. I have no way of knowing if it is accurate.

I forgot that Sa Majesté la Rose was on that list. And Daim Blond. Crap, I see more split hosting in my near future.

That’s a surprising list. I guess I finally need to buy Gris Clair.

Again, it might or might not be accurate. Also true that some of the small sizes will go on sale, somewhere, so worth shopping around.

Note: Kevin alerts me to a post at Kafkaesque that says they will just be moved into the exclusives (bell jar) line, not axed.

            http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2017/06/12/major-changes-at-serge-lutens/

            But that’s not verified either.

Yes, I did find that list on Basenotes. And I agree with Robin’s caveat that it is not verified info. I can’t remember where I first read about the discontinuations.

The cynic in me notes that most of the perfumes on that list are the ones currently being sold at Saks…

Well, if it’s any indication some of these scents were in TK Maxx last year.

At least they can still be opened to decant? I’ll admit there were some bottles of the exports that I wish I’d had 100ml of. Guess the discounters will get flooded again.

Robin, there is a slight spelling error in the title of the fragrance, it is Bourreau des Fleurs

Well, if Kafkaesque is correct, it isn’t, it’s just being moved into the bell jar group.

Have never owned any Lutens, though have smelled many when I can get to a stockist. GBP400+ for 50mls is just a ridiculous price to charge.

The Golden Section scents are ludicrously overpriced, and honestly not even that good: I’ve tried I think four of them and they’re not even up to the standards of the great Lutens scents, let alone being some rare and luxurious treasure. They’re department-store scents being peddled to people for whom a high price is a marker of quality.
