PSA: the Tauer L'Eau giveaway is still open! Meanwhile, happy Hump Day, happy Tapioca Day and happy birthday to John Cusack. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Hermès L'Ambre des Merveilles. I love the star-speckled tilting bottle for the Merveilles series, originally designed by Serge Mansau.
Reminder: 6/30 will be Bottle Porn Friday...wear a fragrance that you bought because you were drawn to the aesthetics of the bottle, or just wear a fragrance from a bottle you think is perfect. Suggested by chocolatemarzipan8.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows detail from a Hermès Qu'importe le flacon silk scarf, designer Catherine Baschet.
Day Two of training that starts at the buttcrack of dawn (6 am, an hour at which I do not enjoy being awake, let alone caffeinated and functional). Selva Do Brazil today, as I was inspired by Robin’s yesteruse of a Berdoues. I don’t have a bottle of it, but I can imagine it from the packaging of the sample 🙂 Yawwwwwwn.
“The buttcrack of dawn”….I love that phrase 🙂
You are smelling good…the Selva Do Brazil bottle is amazing! and we are house twins as I am in Berdoues Grand Cru Cologne Collection Arz el Rab.
I’ve never tried that one! I’ll have to try to get my hands on a sample of that and the gorgeous new violet one.
You’ve mentioned that the Berdoues are available at discounters; would you mind telling me which once? They’re not available at my go-to (fragrancenet). Not that I need to buy any MORE perfume…but Assam of India has really turned into a love as I’ve been using my sample.
the four bottle that float around our house I bought at smallflower, parfum.com and fragrancex and they were all discounted. When I looked just now it seems as though they are out of stock at the last two online sites. Bigelow, smallflower and beautyhabit still stock them so if you get a discount code or a discount with email sign up you can get a discount off of full price. Also, Sephora sells them and if you have a discount code for Sephora that would be another way to get some $$$ off.
https://www.bigelowchemists.com/search?q=berdoues
when you log onto the bigelow site a pop up screen announces ten dollars off your first order…probably have to give them your email address.
And it looks like the prices of the bottles have gone up by five dollars…
Thanks for the links 🙂
Bigelow pharmacy is fun to visit if you are ever in the village.
Parfum1 has them and regular 20% off codes.
https://www.parfum1.com/berdoues-grands-crus-brand.asp?brd=Berdoues+Grands+Crus
yup! looks like they have them all and the summer sale is 25 percent off with code
That’s where I got my bottle of Assam of India. With the coupon code it was a steal.
I never enjoy being up at 6:00- caffeinated or otherwise! Hang in there.
Aw, you’re a trooper Koyel! When it’s over you can sleep in past dawn again and it’ll be glorious.
6:00 a.m.? That’s closer to the time I usually make it to bed! ????
I may have to get a bottle of the Selva do Brasil, even though I recently acquired the Assam. (All that talk about elephants!). When I tested the line, I was surprised by how much I liked them.
Today’s bottle porn: Leather Angel (that’s not what it’s really called but that’s what it is) in its pentalobate bottle grasped in a chrome claw, served in a leather pouch with a baby-blue satin drawstring. The smell is Angel taken to a dark and slightly scary place: patchouli is amped up to keep pace with the leather, and the sweetness is toned way down. I’m wearing a tiny spritz because it is potent stuff.
I liked those collections.
That’s my favorite version of Angel, and the bottle is definitely super cool.
I have the leather Alien, and the bottle and packaging is gorgeous. Since finally coming around to Angel, I have been looking for this version. I did find the liquor version, but it has a bit to much honey for me.
The Liqueur is very sweet but I love it — a lot of richness and complexity that I think is missing from the newer iterations of the original.
You smell great! I have that one too, and it’s my favorite version of Angel.
Fantastic scent and very definitely bottle porn. I am glad I grabbed it when I did.
Yes, happy Wednesday! A few weeks ago, I saw one of the bumper stickers that are shaped like a paw, right? It said: “Every day is hump day.” Good for a giggle.
I’m in Yuzu Fou again, from my new FB. Dry, arid citrus for what promises to be a hectic day.
Y’all have a good one.
I quite like those Parfum d’Empire bottles. They look like they’ve got some nice heft to them, like they’d fit nicely in my hand.
That’s a super-cute bumper sticker 🙂
I do, too! The cap fits nicely and the spray mechanism works perfectly, not too much sprays out at once.
They are very nice indeed, I have a bottle of Azemour, planning to wear it tomorrow!
I saw one that said “I (heart) and then it had a picture of a three-legged old-fashioned milking stool. Someone please tell me what that means.
No clue but that made me lol!
Was it in the context of a paw print? If so, it might refer to a doggie who is missing a limb; a Lucky.
Might be a stretch.
Ha! First I thought “I love milk” and then I thought “I love stool,” which is not so nice 🙂 ! I give up!!!!
Shouldn’t the sticker be shaped like a camel?
Bottle Porn, the AA bottles from Guerlain
limon verde
I think the AA bottles are gorgeous 🙂
We are house twins. I’m wearing AA Herba Fresca today.
Hi twin, we smell good don’t we! 🙂
Yes we do!
Ahhh you smell fun! Limon Verde makes me smile 🙂
Hi, Guerlain twin! I love those AA bottles and the bee bottles they’re based on.
Arz el Rab…continuing my bottle porn with another Berdoues…although both Chinatown and Tocca’s Brigitte were contenders for this week’s challenge 🙂
Yes I also love the Chinatown bottle. I have it sitting out on my China red dresser table. Actually I like the juice too!
I like the juice too!
Chinatown was my first thought as well. 🙂
I think it is one of the prettier Bond no 9 bottles
How do you like Vanira Moorea, marzipan?
I think I might wear it tomorrow for another hot day
I love it lucas….I think it is great year round…my nose smells neroli, orange blossom, vanilla and amber… it is sheer enough even for the hottest of days….but also lovely in cooler weather….
and you know there is something about it that reminds me of by Kilian Love….less sweet though…which makes it even more appealing to me.
The blue bottle of La Nuit Etoilée. Not the gorgeous one for men with the writing on it, but the women’s one. I prefer the EDP of La Nuit so I had to settle for the slightly less beautiful packaging.
Such a pretty blue, too.
Same for me. I only liked the edp – the women’s bottle is less fancy but still a pretty blue. You smell great!
Robin, you smell lovely! Ambre is my favorite of the line.
I’m in Dolce Vita by Dior. Stewed peaches and vanilla, and a bottle like nothing else in this world! Yum.
beautiful bottle and scent 🙂
Agreed.
Why thank you, and so do you, of course!
great bottle!
Dolce Vita is SO good! I only have the parfum, in a teensy adorable bottle, and I can only wear it in deep winter, but it’s delicious.
SOTD is Reichebach Golden Drop.
I found this little gem last night as I was looking through my perfumes. It is a mini bottle sent to me as a gift with my decant order. I chose it because the bottle is cute, but I quite like the fragrance too. It is definitely an old school perfume – a slightly soapy sweet floral with animalic notes: honey, beeswax, flowers and something that reminds me of a fur coat. This is not the official pyramid, just my first impressions. But what I especially like is how it works with my skin chemistry. On me, it softens and slowly turns into a sensual “my skin but better” – a sensual and subtle honeyed floral.
Reichenbach, not Reichebach. Like the Falls in Sherlock Holmes stories. 🙂
Oh good, I was hoping that would be the case 🙂 I LOVED those stories as a child! The scent sounds lovely, too!
Great description – enjoy your “my skin but better!”
Your SOTD sounds gorgeous.
Niki De Saint Phalle EDT.
If Bandit Et Oeillet existed, here it is.
Ashtray leather and black pepper carnations.
Cylindrical cobalt blue bottle with the intertwined snakes embossed on the gold cap.
I do have a factice of the parfum bottle, cobalt cube with one multi-colored snake intertwined with a gold snake.
Triple strength coffee.
Jam- Pull Up To The Bumper, Miss Grace Jones.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
😀
Those bottles were lovely. The extrait bottle for NdSP is one of the all time greats, I wish I had one.
Extrait bottle is the best thing ever! That’s about the only perfume bottle I’d take empty.
My goodness , Bear you are stirring up memories…Niki!!! Blast from my past! That was date night perfume for me in the mid 1980s…love the bottle and the fragrance was SO unique at the time! I had that same perfume bottle (snakes intertwinning on top) as well as the EDT with the snakes embossed on the gold bottle…and let me tell you the scent was a real hit with the men-LOL!
You smell great! I had a mini of NdSP and used it up. Haven’t gotten around to getting more but would like to. The bottle is pretty awesome.
SOTD is Hermes Caleche, which I’d been on the lookout for but definitely bought this particular one of because of the bottle – the gorgeous amber-colored wood-look one that comes in the Hermes box with the little suede polishing cloth. SIGH. I ended up getting a good deal on a beautiful bottle of an amazing scent that is just perfect for this rainy day.
You smell perfect! I have a vintage bottle but not the wood look one — that is so classic looking.
Woke up super late, got to work super, super late due to train delays, missed an important meeting I was supposed to attend, now trying to finish an extensive report due in an hour and no coffee or breakfast yet. At least another lunch retirement party today will soon release the stress. I sprayed on Tea Rose since my bottle arrived yesterday and it was the only perfume handy before leaving home. It is very nice, bright, easy to wear and it is helping with this crazy, but hopefully good day. Be well everyone!
Enjoy your lunch and catch your breath!
Thank you! I was enjoyable and I could finally have my COFFEE! 🙂
So unsettling when that happens. I’ve done that in occasion. You probably needed the sleep. Hope ypu were able to destress. Enjoy your new Tea Rose!
I am so behind with my sleep ☹. The party was really nice and we had a great time. Working late and getting 2 sprays now of Beige to keep me going 🙂 I will read the posts later tonight.
Hope your day turned out well!!????
It did. Thank you!
My SOTD is Guerlain AA Herba Fresca. I have a doctor’s appointment this morning, and went with something bright and pleasant. Plus, I really do love this scent 🙂
You smell lovely and fresh!
the bottle is gorgeous
House twin! I’ve sniffed an Herba Fresca tester several times but haven’t actually worn it yet… Hope your appointment went well.
House triplet… or am I a quad at this point?
Today I am wearing Amouage Reflection Woman from a sample pack. It’s reminding me of something like crazy but I can’t figure out what. Pretty nice one that does not seem very typical of Amouage. (But I guess I like the typical ones more.)
That drives me crazy! Unfortunately I haven’t smelled Reflection, so I can’t help you out on that one. But I do know exactly how you feel, so there’s that.????
I’m in 24, Faubourg, from that beautiful little etched bottle. Love the bottle shape, love the swirling floral etching, and LOVE the fragrance.
Oh, and I meant to say happy birthday to John Cusack – one of my very favorite actors.
I love John Cusack, too; I grew up in the Chicago area, so his films were such a big deal growing up.
SOTD is Alaia EDP Blanche. It’s not a fancy bottle but this one is really growing on me.
That really IS a gorgeous fragrance!
You smell fabulous. 24, Faubourg is one rare and happy instance in which the bottle was the first attraction, and luckily I enjoy the fragrance too. 🙂
No bottle porn today, wearing a bit of the Tauer Rose Oil sent to me by a delightful NSTer. I like it. In small doses. No need for a full bottle.
I’m once again living without TV and I have to say, not being glued to the political drama here and around the world has been a relief!
I poured my table yesterday and I’m inordinately pleased with the result! Not perfect, but most of the “issues” are
an easy fix. What I love most about it is that in “regular” light it looks very “white, clean, and neat” (for 10 extra points, name the artist who delivered that title song way back in 1988!) but in sunlight or artificial lighting it’s like the Vegas strip- all sparkly and blingy!
Happy Humpday✌️
I love a good lyric challenge, no points for me, I had to look it up.
Unless you’re a fan of that particular artist, it’s a rather obscure song title, for sure ????
Argghh.. had to look it up as well. I own only one of his albums–not his usual fare– with Alison Krauss.
But your table sounds perfect!
That collab album with Krauss is fabulous!
Glad the table worked out–it sounds so cool!
SotD is Romanza.
Not really bottle porn…on pictures that cap looks totally weird.. (in real life it actually has a pretty nice feel to it). And the sprayer is very good.
Also, I sampled MEM by Bogue last night (also last sunday).
Wow! So beautiful.
On fragrantica the note list screams lavender. Now, most of the time I dislike lavender, but here it does not bother me it all.
It is a ‘kaleidoscopic’ scent to me, shifting and changing all the time. Yes it starts with a lavenderbomb but it soon changes into a more abstract scent of flowers, fruits, vetiver, ambergris, cuddly animalic notes..
The dry down is great, sillage moderate, longevity immense.
I am really looking forward to smelling Mem, it sounds so interesting.
You smell lovely. I actually like the new MM bottles, although I have to say when it comes to L’Attesa, I wish it were bigger! I am going through mine. And Mem is fabulous.
L’Attesa is great! Have you tried one of the new MM’s? Or are they not available yet?
I still have to work my way through all the samples of their releases up til l’attesa (the shop assistent gave me the whole bunch when I bought Romanza, that was really sweet).
I haven’t seen the two new ones yet.
Well, I’ve always been a fan of John Cusack and I love tapioca pudding so today is a good day, I guess? Wearing Donna Karan Black Cashmere today and I am fond of the free form pebble bottle.
I like to hold that bottle. Feels good in the hand. (And the scent smells wonderful.)
It’s a darned good day if John Cusack brings you a bowl of tapioca pudding!
Snort!
I love all 3!
Today I’m wearing Le Jardin de Monsieur Li for the second time. I was ambivalent about it the first time, but it is a very nice citrus fragrance. Perfect for the hot weather in Texas.
Great SotD!
I’m being boring because I’m in Shalimar again today. I’ve been trying so much other stuff lately, but yesterday reminded me how much I love this one, so I just craved it again today. Plus, I needed the boost of “badassness” it gives me.
I wore Songes for 5 + days, and bored I was not…
Shalimar is gorgeous and I am sure there are plenty of people who wear that one everyday all year round. The bottle is gorgeous as well! You can wear Shalimar all week, and come sit next to me. I won’t mind.
you smell great!
I am going away for a month and thinking about taking only two perfumes. I doubt I’ll be able to do it though!
Curious, which 2 would make the cut?
That’s the problem, right? Because I have it in travel size, I was thinking Bombay Bling, but then my brain shuts down and refuses to go further. I love wearing Carner Barcelona Cuirs at night when I sleep. It lulls me away. But I couldn’t possibly just have those two now could I?
No.
Cuirs is one of my sleepytime perfumes too, along with its fellow kindly-granddad perfume, Tuscan Leather. For travel, samples are good because they are so teensy, and it’s guilt free if you check them when empty.
I’m only going away for 9 days and don’t think I cam narrow it down to 2. Good time to use up samples!
But then why just two? Why not take a handful of samples? At worst you could make yourself some 2- or 5-mL decants of, say, your five location-appropriate favorites, right? They take up almost no room at all. (Where are you going??)
This is undoubtedly what I will do, as I have purse stashes decants of almost everything I own! I was wondering what fidelity would be like, but not that curious really!
I am going to try to only bring two perfumes on a vacation when I will have no access to my collection for 11 days. My picks are: EdM Bleue and Chanel No. 5 L’Eau in 30 and 25 mLs, respectively. I know I won’t run out.
Plus it will leave room in your suitcase just in case you happen to buy perfume.
Nah, Shalimar’s not boring–even if it’s on repeat! ???? You smell fab.
Back from vacation and tackling the mountain of laundry and snow drifts of cat hair my three kitties managed to shed (seriously, I don’t know how they have any fur left). I brought an Atelier sampler set on my trip, and I’m trying Rose Anonyme again today, trying to decide what I think. It’s def the most interesting of the Ateliers I tried, but maybe a little sour to my nose . . .
This one gave me a headache, but I liked it before that happened!
Hope the cats aren’t punishing you for your absence too much.
No headache (knock wood) but I think Rose A is a no-go. I love both rose and oud, but not together, it seems.
I have one forgiving cat, one grudge-holding cat, and one who is so dumb I question whether he notices when we’re gone. Ah, pets!
This makes me laugh. There’s always a dumb dumb in there, isn’t there! I don’t like Rose A at all, so with you on that too.
I have a couple of felines, and one is a long-haired ragdoll, so I feel your pain. Sometimes it seems like her fundamental purpose is to be a fur-producing machine, as if all of her energy is devoted to growing fur as fast and as furiously as possible. Do you ever notice small strands of fur floating around on updrafts in your house?
Oh yes – my house is basically tidal drifts of cat hair. We overnight-ed at a couple of old friends’ homes on our trip. Both houses were pet-less, and coming home right after that made me realize that my house is basically filthy.
You missed the worst of the heat so far–well played! ????
We did! I think this is the first time we’ve ever timed a trip just right, weather-wise.
Another lovely sunny breezy day here, wearing on various spots SMN Fieno, SMN Melograno and L’AP Fou d’Absinthe. A nice blend of smells with hay, soap and licorice.
I do love SMN Melograno. And the soap too. I sampled Melograno at the boutique in NYC and bought a soap as the cheaper way to smell good…
Good morning Y’all!
Trying a new one today: Gallivant Tel Aviv. Ok, but faded to zero in just 2 hours, so fixin’ to try Gallivant London at lunch…..
Gallivant-ing sounds great. 🙂 Do you like them?
I like them all, BUT the longevity is zilch on my skin. I put London on at noon, and it’s gone already. Using doTerra’s “Motivate” essential oil now…..LOL!
Istanbul and Brooklyn lasted pretty well on me-they also were the heavier ones of the group.
Essential oils are such fun. My mom uses a blend called “Energy” that I like to borrow.
I LOVE essential oils too! I’ve really gotten into them the last few months….
I diffuse them every night at bedtime….
Today I am wearing Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino Acqua.
Yesterday I received my long awaited bottle (and the last full bottle I will be buying for a while…Dusita’s La Sillage Blanc. I wanted so much to wear it today, but decided to wait until Friday when I will be going out after work. The fragrance is so beautiful and the presentation and packaging are absolutely gorgeous.
Le Sillage Blanc is very pretty. My favorite from Dusita.
How does Neroli Portofino Acqua compare to “non Acqua”?
On me it was very “screechy”
I like the non-acqua a lot better myself, not that you were asking me!
Amy, as you know, I am of the same opinion.
I just got mine today too! I also bought Douceur de Siam, because I have no self-control and it was my birthday. The packaging is great and the scents amazing. (I didn’t love any of the first three, thank goodness.)
love Douceur de Siam! I didn’t fare as lucky a fate as you with the first three… 😮
Perhaps I will buy the Douceur de Siam for my birthday in August. Actually, I like all the Dusita scents…especially Isaara.
I have to admit I liked Issara a lot too but talked myself out of it so far.
that would be a great birthday celebration bottle, indeed!
Encre Noir – great bottle, great scent and great price!
Gr8 one, my husband’s favourite! and of course I ‘borrow’ it from time to time.????
You smell great!
And yes, bottle and price are also very nice. It should win an award for that. 🙂 Because I hardly meet a fragrance that ticks all these boxes for me.
SOTD: Jasmin et Cigarette, from one of the small cube bottles. Not quite bottle porn (the cap is a bit aesthetically awkward imo) – but close to.
Thanks to everyone who sent me good wishes yesterday! I am feeling much better.
Glad you are feeling better!
Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell, glad you’re feeling better tho!
Glad to hear that your bug was short-lived.
SOTD- Amouage Honour- beautiful fresh white floral with warm incensy dry down- perfect for summer. Initially I tried it in cold weather and wasn’t impressed, but now I love it.
Speaking about bottle porn- couple years ago I got Amouge coffret with 6 mini bottles- colorful, gorgeuos and pure yum! I have to keep them in the drawer for now until my girls grow up and stop grabbing my mini bottles. I plan to keep mini Amouages after I drain them OF COURSE!
That coffret sounds amazing, I’ve loved all the Amouage EdPs (and the beautiful bottles) but can’t dedicate myself to one. I want them ALL!
So far I tried 8 of their scents and only one made it to FB list- Amouage Gold. The others will have to be decants I am afraid.
Mini + Amouage = Super-Awesome!
My SOTD is Delina by Parfums de Marly. I love this perfume so very much. It was a huge splurge and I don’t regret it one bit. Chosen because I love the perfume and the bottle is really fun–the powder pink color isn’t my favorite but it’s got a great shape and heft and I love the heavy cap.
Ha! The weather today is not exactly as the forecast was saying.
It’s less hot than it was supposed to be and so far no storms, and yesterday on TV they said there’ll be lots of them going through Poland today. Guess you can’t praise the day until the sun sets.
I’m feeling juicy today thanks to Atelier Cologne Pomelo Paradis.
SOTD is Hermes Un Jardin Mediterranee. I always find the standard Hermes bottle shape pleasing, but I particularly like the blue-to-yellow fade in this one. Plus, fig.
Once this fades, as we know it will, I’ll top up from the mini of Un Jardin Sur Le Nil that I keep in my desk at work. The unbearable cuteness of the mini bottle outweighs its pedestrian clear glass.
I am pleased by all the Hermes packaging, but the minis are indeed adorable, and the 15 ml colored bottles likewise, especially all lined up 🙂
I’m not much into the bottles, just the juice. I do tend to like the square or squarish shaped bottles, and I find the Malle round bottles very appealing. Doesn’t hurt that the contents are so damn wonderful. Had great fun with my book club last night sitting out under the stars with great wine, great women, and great conversation. Wearing Lys Mediternee and loving it.
What a wonderful evening, book clubs are gr8 fun, I need to revive ours, it tends to hibernate over the summer months.
your book club sounds perfect, and you smell wonderful!
Sigh. I wish I was in a terrific book club. What book are you reading now?
I’m in Mohur extrait — I think I prefer the standard EdP (which has more of a honeyed rose opening). My wallet sings praises! I’ll be buying the travel spray of this (if anyone reading is interested in a split…).
I’m another who isn’t really into perfume bottles. I’d be perfectly happy if everything came in a standard SL-esque rectangle (for more efficient storage).
Err…buying the traels pray of the EdP that is!
TRAVEL SPRAY. Obviously I need to put more coffee in my mouth.
The SL bottles drive me crazy – always toppling over!
Yes! And if there’s a row, they fall like dominoes. I did that once in Barney’s–knocked over a whole row. Luckily nothing broke. They shrugged and said it happens all the time.
Hey, Doc, go check out the Posse blog – you’ve won a sample!
!! Thanks for the heads-up.
I have often wished that everything could come in SL-style bottles, preferably with side tags like the Guerlain les Arts et les Matières, so that I can side-stack them and be able to pull them out like books with labeled spines. I, however, find the SL bottles to be just about perfect.
I love that you are eager to get another Take Two, now that Trayee has been fulfilled 🙂
I have Mohur-based needs…
I wonder, is the rectangle the most often used shape for perfume bottles? It would make sense if that were true.
Are we still playing the reeking havoc game? Because I have Lou Lou on one wrist and original Juicy Couture on the other. I have to work tonight, and can’t pick what to wear. Nothing is fitting my mood, which is tired and cranky. I’m drinking diet Pepsi, which is NOT the same as diet Coke. It would be like Bear drinking half decaf , lol! Sorry, I’m out of sort’s today. Oh!, but happy birthday John Cusack! There have been men in my life where I have actually said ” maybe you could try and be more like John Cusack ” lol. I’m going to quit typing now…
Hope you’re shift go’s quickly, and u feel more yourself tomorrow.
And at least u smell wonderful!
Someone who will stand outside our window serenading us with a boom box? Yup.
I’m with you on Diet Coke vs DP, BUT, the best IMO is the Diet Pepsi with the black label- formerly called Pepsi Max-taste and caffeine content exceed expectations.
Hope your shift isn’t too bad!
Diet Pepsi is the worst. Pepsi is the worst. I am sorry you having to put up with it. I was a huge Coke Zero fan until I realized it was destroying my stomach!
Hi Lillyjo! Am sending you a virtual Aperol Negroni with a very pretty napkin… enjoy outdoors.
POAL this morning, Marni this afternoon, the Malle bottles are satisfyingly hefty and simple, the Marni bottle is gorgeous, probably my favourite after my Amouage trio.
you smell great, I love the Malle bottles as well.
Thanks Elizabeth!
Another Marni fan here!
The Marni bottles are really cute. I have a larger and a smaller (30 ml) and the little one is extra fun!
Trying the patented Eau Claire de Merveilles + Eau de Merveilles Combo today and it is very nice! Eau Claire on its own is a bit boring to me and the original provides some lift.
Love the bottles too.
Oh good!
Wearing the Baies Rose twist of X. So grateful for my SA who sends me samples of anything I request that his store sells. These two twists are funny, the tuberose one I think is great, but you really only smell the “twist” for about five minutes, and then to me it smells identical to X. The Baies Rose twist doesn’t smell like a twist on X at all, but a completely new perfume. I’d happily wear either if a bottle fell into my lap but I’m not purchasing.
Hmm I don’t know about these . . .
I think they’re exclusive to Sak’s and limited edition. https://nstperfume.com/2017/06/05/clive-christian-x-twist-baies-rose-x-twist-tuberose-new-fragrances/
Ah I was just at Saks. Next time.
Testing out my sample of Arielle Shoshana and I must say – I see what all the fuss has been about. Both juicy and sophisticated! I think I’m in love. Well done, Ari!
Isn’t it nice?
Your post reminded me to order a sample. Thank you, it was nice to accomplish something today!
I love it too! The universe must be telling me to eat passion fruit in some form – a Haagen Daz ad on a train featured luscious looking passion fruit ice cream. Maybe I’ll stick to Ariele Shoshana because calorie free!
I’m starting to drool at all the mention of passionfruit. And I might have to get a sample of Ari’s scent, too.
Gorgeous day today so opted for a beautiful perfume to match: Le Labo Ylang 49. I have the balm but I am one who likes the LL bottles and the metal travel case is especially nice to me.
PSA for anyone who likes the YOSH line: Hautelook has them on sale for 30 bucks for the next couple of days only. I’m dithering on Sottile which I’ve always liked when I sampled it but never wanted to shell out the $110 for such a simple (but lovely) clean tea-rose.
Ylang 49 is one of my all-time favorites. You smell fabulous!
Thanks! Definitely my favorite LL and up there with favorites.
That is a good one ..you smell great!
Thanks!
I too really like the LL bottles and just purchases a travel spray and case. Labdanum, which I was surprised I liked so much.
Nice! The travel case is steam-punky which is why I like it.
Labdanum is so nice, and the oil version is especially cozy. I wasn’t surprised that I loved it when I realized it was a Maurice Roucel creation.
Cozy is just the word.
I am lemming Ylang 49! Once I went for its shower gel on eBay, but the seller apparently posted a wrong scent and so I never got it 🙁
That’s a bummer ????
I got a sample of the shower gel in Ylang 49 and it was wonderful!
Good to know; I’ll then continue checking eBay for it!
Sottile is beautiful – what a steal!
Last night I had a dream that I was cooking pasta for George Clooney. We were having a nice conversation and he kissed my cheek and told me I smelled nice. This morning I looked over my perfume collection and tried to imagine What George Would Like. Figuring he has smelled hundreds of perfumes on women, I went with DSH Cafe Noir. Indie perfumer, and everybody likes coffee and spices, right? This is what happens when you watch an old ER episode right before bed.
Deva, thanks so much for the link to the movie yesterday!
This comment made my day. You smell great!
(Last night I dreamed that it was Saturday and I was sleeping in. No joke. I was SO PISSED when my alarm went off and I realized it was Wednesday.)
The worst.
Ooh those are evil dreams!!!
Oh my…This morning I thought it was Saturday. When I got home, I thought tomorrow is Friday. My brain is seriously messed up! Are we in Mercury retrograde?
AFAIK, not yet.
😀
Why can’t I dream of cooking for George Clooney? My dreams are muddles of chewed off bits of my days, and make no sense at all. BTW, I think there are LOTS of scents in your collection that he would like…
I was thinking the same thing. Last night I had that same dream of rushing to catch–not a plane this time but a ferry to an island where my mom was waiting for me so she could leave my kids… Oy and double oy. Oy Oy. I missed the ferry by a mile of course…
Brilliant, what a lovely dream!- I’m sure he would like that one, he did that coffee advert after all!
Awesome.
With dreams like that, I would never want to wake up! I wonder what Amal wears….
I picture her with a single signature fragrance, probably a custom/one-of-a-kind scent from Amouage.
Yes. But not when she’s working. 🙂
I’m dying laughing over here. You made my day.
Adorable!
You’re welcome????
LotM** = Black Flower Mexican Vanilla + Orange Sanguine
I smell like an orange flan. Delicious. Thanks to cm8 for the layering pro-tip.
Yay! for Serge Mansau and his oeuvre. I’ll wear EdM later today. M. Mansau must be why not all perfume bottles are rectangular, though I do love a strong rectangle because CHANEL, the best use of a rectangle ever.
I loved Eau des Merveilles from my first sniff of a sample vial, so the EdM bottle, which I adore, makes it that much more fun. I would like to see another special edition bottle of EdM like those pretty pegasus and constellation bottles.
**layering of the morning
Yes please to another special edition EdM bottle!
I would buy a special EdM bottle in a hot minute! and please let it be 50 mls or less. 🙂
oh yay to the layering! Isn’ t good? once this week’s challenge is over I may go back to my layering experiments 🙂
It is GOOD. The caramel in BFMV usually overwhelms me, but with OS it’s perfection.
Hermes Jardin Sur le Nil.
I want a 4 x 15ml pack of L’Eau des Merveilles, and Jardins Toit, Nil & Mediterranean.
I am planning this purchase…..but stupid rent keeps getting in the way.
You smell great, and jardin soaps are also fantastic 😉
SOTD is Annick Goutal “Songes”. Bottle porn for the ribbed vaguely ovoid bottles – 2 of the 3 AG FBs I have at home are the masculine square ones which are not things of beauty.
Notes are vanilla, jasmine, ylang-ylang, frangipani and tiare.
I can see why this gets so much love – it’s a bright but not screeching floral with decent lasting power. It’s not really my thing, although I’m enjoying the perfume equivalent of “putting a face to the name”. :^)
This is the fragrance that used to come in a really gorgeous moon bottle. Wish I had that one!
Smelling good and I love the women’s AG bottles myself! It is nice when you have a collection in all different sizes of those AG bottles…a very very long time ago I had about ten empty ones on my bathroom shelf until Mr. CM8 complained that it was “impractical” to use such useful bathroom storage space for empty perfume bottles….
To which the answer is “You are quite right, dear, it is very impractical” and then just leave the bottles there anyway. :^)
LOL! Oh I will have to remember that for next time!
One perfume reviewer titled her take on Songes as “Dreams of Heated Flesh” Sun-kissed skin after dusk. Pretty much sums it up for how I feel about Songes. Have a date tonight with Mr. Loves and planning on dousing myself with it. You smell fabulous
Good morning, all. This week has been very on-off for me (mostly off) with technical issues at home (a moribund modem, I think) and increasing busy-ness at work. Good busy-ness, but busy nonetheless.
I’ve been thinking about bottle porn, and I had just about concluded, in a self-congratulatory way, that I was immune to it, when I caught sight of my bottle of Narcisso, the white cube. Now, I LOVE that bottle, its shape, its heft, its white clarity. In fact, it may be whispered that I love the bottle quite a bit more than the scent, of which I am tolerably fond, but not much more. Then, too, I bought Rose Musc, mostly for the smokey rose juice, but the overall gold-ness of the bottle was enchanting as well. And so as I go through my collection, I realise I am definitely not immune to the charm of a handsome bottle. I was kidding myself.
Today is a day for both perfume and bottle love: Black Cashmere. No surprises from Downunder today. The perfume is perfect for a biting winter day, and the bottle is pleasing too, a heavy, smooth cylinder of black glass, quite plain but also elegant.
Hope this post “takes”: my main job this weekend is clearly to either install a new modem or organise super fast broadband. I tried before with the super fast, but dealing with the company turned into a nightmare, and I threw a paddy and cancelled the whole thing in a fit of frustrated but righteous anger. Be well, all.
Hi waterdragon, (waving from the UK) how do u find the newer BC compares to the older one?, the old pebble bottle costs such a lot on eBay now.. I was wondering about longevity/sillage rather than formula change. Thanks!
Ha! sometimes the bottle porn hits us at an unconscious level 🙂
Definitely not immune to the bottles. Good luck with internet! I hate having anything installed but I couldn’t live without broadband.
The Black Cashmere bottle is one of my favorites.
John Cusack’s birthday: sounds like a good reason to watch Grosse Pointe Blank, no?
SOTD is Guerlain Cologne du 68. Fancy baby powder! ????
Have a good Hump Day, peeps!
house cousins
????????
Another scent cousin!
We could have a family get-together!
Lets do it! Best smelling family get together I will probably ever go to
Sure!
Hey house twin…looks like we’re in good company.
SOTD Byredo 1996. Their bottles fit right in with my bottle aesthetics – simple bottle, heavy glass, heavy cap, sprayer works great. It helps that I like the juice.
Byredo bottles are nice! (none of their fragrances have worked for me so far, but I haven’t yet totally given up on Byredo possibly because of those bottles …)
A lot of their frags were not for me, but I really liked 1996, Pulp, and Bal d’Afrique. Oliver Peoples was a serious contender, so most likely would be getting it for a split meet later this year. Rose of no Man’s Land was a nice rose, but not nice enough to buy (would use if a bottle felt into my lap, but I felt I had much better roses in my collection already)
I still haven’t tried Oliver Peoples but definitely should: the beautiful bottle comes in 3 shades + I love LA!
you smell wonderful, and I love the bottles too.
CdG2 from a mini that I largely bought ($10) for that adorable little pebble-like bottle (+ memory reasons). But whether this is the smell of Japanese ink or not, this stuff smells great!
Oh, those are great bottles, and loved some of the limited edition versions.
I’m wearing Philosykos today. Don’t know if it constitutes “bottle porn”, per se, but I like the oval shape of the bottle and the black and white label.
I love those Diptyque bottles!
I am a big fan of their old bottles (square), and the label on Philosykos is my favorite! (some of the others tend to be a bit too busy, IMO)
Same here. Label porn 🙂
This week, I’ve decided to sniff my way through the 12 mini EDTs in the Jean Patou Ma Collection Parfums d’Epoque 1925-1964 boxed set. Yesterday was the pineapple chypre Colony (1938); I also have some of the original vintage, only the dark base notes remaining.
Today is L’Heure Attendue (1946). It was created to celebrate the end of WWII and long-awaited moment of Liberation with a “refined, peaceful aroma synonymous with a new mellowness of life.” It is a lovely, soft, rosy-floral sandalwood.
Wearing Douceur de Siam this afternoon since it just came in the mail!
YAY! What an exciting package!!! You smell incredible.
Nice!! Is this Dusita? What is your impression? I am yet to explore her collection.
Yes it is. It is a lovely rich floral, richer and more flowery than I usually do, but something in it captivates me. Maybe it is the rose and violet leaf which keep it from veering into the BWF category that I can’t quite pull off. Le Sillage Blanc is also lovely; an aromatic chypre that I think would be lovely on just about anyone.
The first three in the line, which were extraits rather than EDPs, were not quite me. A giant oud, a BWF, and, my favorite, a fougere (Issara) that seemed maybe a little too big for a fougere, if that makes sense. But others loved them all.
And I should say I am revisiting the first three now myself, as my mood shifts with perfume so radically!
Thank you, this sounds very interesting. I would have to explore it – kafka did a great review on it 🙂
Oh, it is so very pretty. Oh no! it’s at Luckyscent…
I’m in The City of Sin, from a sample sent by a generous NSTer… and weirdly enough, it is growing on me. Maybe its the fact that once the sample is empty, I probably will never come across it again–but I am enjoying my time with this wide tie, heel lifts, comb over of a scent.
If I could find it at 1/6 the cost per ml, I’d definitely buy a travel-sized flask…
“If” followed by a “perfume purchase” is like pennies in a fountain…
Thanks everyone for the good wishes for my mom’s health. She is doing really well. My SOTD is Byredo Oliver Peoples. I like the bottle because of the magnetized cap.
Nice to hear the good news about your mom.
Good to hear about your mother. And yes, that clock is so satisfying!

At the beginning of the week, I thought “I don’t have anything I’ve purchased because of the bottle.” Then I took a good look at my collection, and – I do. Today, it’s the gorgeous Ralph Lauren Safari, that lovely green, mossy, floral. I have two bottles, one from the mid 90s and one from probably 8 or 9 years later. One is the regular “cut crystal” bottle, the other is the “crystal” spear point bottle (which is just about the worst in terms of cultural appropriation…sigh). Love the first, not so much the second.
Oh gosh I loved Safari back in the day…the perfume and the bottle! I had a chance to revisit it recently and it was swoon all over again..you smell amazing!
SOTD = Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum from the sample/decant stash. It’s also Bottle Porn. And rapidly moving up on the full bottle wish list.
The Terracotta bottle is very pretty, and you smell great.
Thanks! I needed some smell-good; today was a little aggravating. Minor stuff, but annoying all the same.
Hi, Guerlain twin!
Hiya, twin!
House twin!
Yep! Guerlain seems to be on a roll today. Not that I mind…
SOTD is AG Eau d’Hadrien in the cutest miniature ribbed bottle.
great summer scent!
A miniature ribbed bottle sounds so adorable. I have a mini of Neroli and the bottle is very plain.
My morning samples wore off, so now am in the perfume oil of Demeter Honeysuckle, which with luck will last til the end of the working day. In a practical, travel-sized roll-on.
Honeysuckle is one of my favorite flowers to smell. Demeter is a good one. You smell lovely.
Today’s bottle porn fragrance: Diptyque Essences Insensees Rose de Mai. I have to admit that, although I would never buy a fragrance just for the bottle if I didn’t like the fragrance, I have been known to buy a beautiful bottle if I like the fragrance well enough.
Case in point. A very nice, sweet, well-behaved rose. Not incredibly beautiful, but charming in its way. Oh boy now I sound like a copywriter! Ack!
Is this with the puff atomizer?
Yes, that’s the one.
I am behind in reading the Bottle Porn SOTD!
SOTD = Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar
What is more gorgeous than golden yellow juice in an elegant bee bottle?
You can read about it here:
http://www.monsieurguerlain.com/2015/09/bottles.html?m=0
One of the advantages of splitting a bottle is you get to keep the original bottle. That said, there are times when one has to give up a gorgeous bottle to keep doen the cost of the split (I am looking at you Hermes Galop).
Read a
Howdy, house twin! Yep, those bee bottles definitely fall into the bottle porn category for me.
I have mini bee bottle somewhere…don’t even recall what juice is in it!
Hey, cool, more perfume house twins! Maybe it’s time for a Guerlain house party?
Lyric today. Hope everyone had a great day! ????
Hey Twin, Lyric for me too.
Bottle porn? I love so many perfume bottles, but the only one I have bought purely because of the bottle (the scent is great too, but I already had it) is the blue-green Vol de Nuit shimmer spray with atomizer bulb. The bottle is the same shape and size as the classic propeller bottle, but it is a marvelous teal or peacock blue. It makes me happy every time I look at it!
