Tuesday scent of the day 6/20

Posted by Robin on 20 June 2017 285 Comments

Deep Tea Diver silicone infuser

Tuesday, and Brian Wilson's birthday, and World Refugee Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm dragging after staying up too late last night with Twin Peaks: The Return. I'm wearing Parfums de Nicolaï Eau d'Été from Erin's Top 10 Summer Fragrances 2013.

Reminder: On 6/23, wear one of your "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: you can find a Deep Tea Diver silicone infuser at Amazon for about $7.

    Hi NST family!

I’m in Tauer Cologne du Maghreb, because Robin reminded me of it in her review of new Tauer L’Eau.

I smell great & very appropriate for 29 degrees C.

In Guerlain Terracotta. Another summer favorite! Just placed a blind order of Tea Rose based on recent comments here. I was looking for a nice, simple rose fragrance that did not break my perfume “restricted” budget. (Lately, I have done some damage. Donatella…). With that price nothing can go wrong.

Failing miserably at the community project as I am having too much fun testing.
This morning My Indian Childhood, Il Tuo Tulipano Red , L’Air de Rien, Prelude to Love and Shangri-La. Later when it fades I will add Sottile, Classic Mimosa, Ophelia, Serpentine and the Unicorn Spell.

Last night I tested Cuir Mauresque and L’Eau Ambree.

Over the weekend I also tested the Dame Soliflores that I hadn’t gotten around to trying- Wisteria, Peony, Lily of the Valley, Freesia and Honeysuckle…all quite lovely and perfect for spring/summer.

Soft, slightly sweet and a bit of anise to my wonky nose…have no idea what wisteria is supposed to smell like but the Dame is really pretty…..(as are most of his soliflores). Bear in mind that my olfactory impressions are quite often way off the mark…I usually apply and sniff first and then research after…only to find out that what my nose perceives is not at all what notes are listed :)

So far I haven’t been that impressed w/ TP. I was a fan of the original and the new show has a very different feel imo.

I haven’t watched the most recent episode from Sunday yet though but my brother said it was good one and maybe feels a bit more like the original show.

Robin, how are you liking it so far?

I am loving it — it is different from the original, but I think closer to what he meant to do, and can do now without network interference. Much weirder, more violent (there are bits I just don’t watch), scarier, but also slower, yet still way harder to follow, and I gave up on the original Season 2 midway through so I’d be lost without the massive reddit discussion and the Twin Peaks wiki.

She-ra, Sunday’s episode had more plot movement (and explanation) than the earlier episodes, but even then, there is for instance (don’t think this is a spoiler) a 2 minute long shot of someone sweeping the floor. You either have to surrender to Lynch or not :-)

Yay for plot movement ;) and yes, he does like himself some long shots. I agree that this is closer to his original vision.

Blue Velvet is worth seeking out. Some say it is his best film…disturbing, strange yet poignant.

        • Amy says:
          20 June 2017 at 4:43 pm

I really can watch almost anything and Blue Velvet utterly haunted and disturbed me, so I think you are wise to stay away, Robin. It was right after my father had died, but I don’t think that was the only thing that made me react so strongly. There are other Lynch movies I love–and things much more violent by other people. Something about the particular nature of the creepy. I wasn’t a Twin Peaks fan though and so haven’t watched the new season.

Funny – I live a few blocks away from a house that some scenes from the original were filmed in and was just thinking about David Lynch the other day. There are parts of this town that would make a good film set, which is what got me thinking about it.

Yes you remember correctly. Large stores and offices have a/c or some form of climate control. But our houses do not come standard with an a/c.

I slept with windows open last night and it was pretty okay. Downside, I woke up early from birds chirping, train noise and sunlight. But it was better than sleeping with the fan on.

Thankfully the office i work in has a pretty okay climate control system. :)

I am also wearing You or Someone Like You, from Robin’s generous giveaway. Thanks, Robin! It reminds me of Pamplelune. It has that whiffy, almost sweaty top note of grapefruit and there is a minty undertone. Almost as if Pamplelune and Herba Fresca had a baby. Perfect for summer, especially hot, humid Texas Summer. Which usually starts in May, no matter what the calendar says.

Inadvertently in Perles de Mousse this morning, as I spilled a bit on myself while trying to fill a glass sample vial. One of the few spilling mishaps in the world in which the spilled state is preferable to the non-spilled – I smell good.

I have a decanting supply question for you folks. I’m looking specifically for long, thin, 2 ml glass vials with no lip at the top. My last order left me with a bunch of vials that have the tiniest opening, which is difficult to spray into and even more difficult to insert a plastic cap into. Anybody know where I can get straight-edged vials? I’ve done several searches, and it looks like many of the vials now have this inward pinch at the top, or the descriptions of the vials make it difficult to determine what the top looks like.

For glass vials, try Riverrun (several outlets carry the brand). I usually order spray vials, but they make non-spray glass vials too.

You could also consider getting a teensy funnel, which I use for decants ‘cos I am not very handy in the spritzing department.

I’ve tried that, and it works pretty well, but if I’m decanting a few different perfumes, I feel like I have to clean the funnel really well between decants, which adds more steps to a process that already takes me longer than I think it should. :-)

I don’t use the same funnel for different perfumes; instead, I keep the funnels in individual baggies with the perfume name for reuse.

well, this is the first time that I am trying it, but the cotton ball is not soaked, so I don’t think it will be a problem.

One of the posters said that she would wear the same cotton ball for a few days to build up her personal scent, I guess kind of like seasoning a skillet :)

Swimming against the current this morning, as it’s not summer where I am. (Well, officially it will be summer at 9:24 p.m., apparently, but you’d never know that in my northern corner of the Pacific NW.) Another grey and gloomy day, plus my skin feels dry (who knows why), so I’m wearing the Tauer Amber Flush oil I got for my birthday last month. Happy Juneuary! Hoping to be in the mood to break out those summer fragrances soon (the weather’s supposed to get better later this week, I think).

Today is my daughter’s 4th birthday…where does the time go?

And I got an offer yesterday for the job I had the 2nd interview for :) …it was a decent offer (thankfully they didn’t lowball me) but I pushed back and the HR person said he had to check in w/ his director to see if he go to that amount. I don’t particularly like negotiating but I do like buying perfume so there you go. ;)

I am trying some Reine de Nuit today compliments of the so-very-generous Hajusuuri. It is lovely…not sure how the price is justified but it is blooming quite nicely from a teeny dab.

Scent of the moment is clean, as in freshly showered, powered, lotioned. Enjoying it now, because it ain’t gonna last… I’m working on house projects this week. On Day 3 of what should be “simple” fixes in the bathroom. Blue haze hanging over the Eastern Seaboard caused by several episodes of swearing up a storm. Current tally: 2 trips to Home Depot, 3 to local hardware store (4th needed to return parts that didn’t fit). Deva and Ede, how do you DO this stuff?…

    Hey Guys!

    1) Tuesday!

    2) After yesterday’s uncomfortable mugginess and heat, today is way more moderate. I am in Molinard’s Jasmine- small spritzes. Perfect.

    3) House stuff: The muggy, warm weather has given life to the weeds- and to the beans, tomatoes and eggplant! It’s interesting to watching the plant battle outside. It’s messy but very pretty at the same time.

    4) How are you?

Lovely that you’re growing vegetables. My Father would grow tomatoes, peppers, and rosemary. Very Italian, now that I think about it.
I can kill wax fruit, but I admire people with green thumbs ! LOL. ;)

Habanita I really, really lovely, but it’s so grand that I can’t see wearing it more than a couple of times a year! I still use a sample from a couple of years back!

Silliest picture of the year so far! I love it. I also love Eau d’Eté. Took it with me on holiday as I usually do.

My SOTD is Chergui. Which I think was once considered an oddball of a scent. I love it in summer as it makes it less dense and therefore more wearable.

It’s hot. Not Phoenix hot, but hot. If I had a bottle of that new Imaginary Authors perfume, I’d be wearing that. And maybe drinking a mint julep. But since I don’t, I wearing PdN’s Fig Tea. Notes of figs, osmanthus, davana, tea according to Luckyscent. Very pretty.

Popping in for a quick visit. I’ve been too busy to do more than scan lately.
I’ve broken my White Linen streak today with a dose of Dame Gardenia over a few dabs of Musc Tonkin. It’s so hot and miserable here that perfume just burns off in a couple of hours. Oh, well. I’ve been too rushed to enjoy it much anyway.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying summertime!

    SOTD = Arielle Shoshanna EDP

What a fun fragrance! That initial blast of fruit is sooo juicy it felt like I was biting into fruit! I don’t recall having had passionfruit so I would describe it as less sweet version of mango (ummm mango without the mango bits – I know it doesn’t make sense but I will stick to this since I’ve never had passionfruit considering the unappealing visual). I used 3 spritzes from a sample vial and will need to amp it up as it got to drydown in about 3 hours but what a nice drydown – musky and vanillic!

Speaking of fun, I am obsessed with this:

    http://www.brighton.com/content/3505/christo-cuff-bracelet.html

I have 3 jewelry pieces: a narrow cuff in silver, a slim cuff in gold and a pendant in silver. I went to town with the inserts. I may just bring these and several pieces of the inserts plus a pair of earrings and I would be all set from day to evening while on vacation.

Brighton makes nice jewelry. I first encountered the line probably 12 years ago at a Pendleton boutique in downtown Lake Oswego (near Portland, OR) and then a year or two later, a Brighton boutique opened up ar a mall in Portland. I added more pieces to my collection once more boutiques sprouted up in NJ. Surprisingly, I had never ordered online as that probably would not have a good outcome on my wallet!

Passionfruit has a tart, pop in the mouth sensation to counter the sweetness ( related ti crunching the pips ) so I think it is probably closer to pomegranate than mango in that sense

Ari’s passionfruit note is spot on. I’ve eaten the real thing and can vouch for the high fidelity if the scent.

And a jewelry lemming is born. Those cuffs are gorgeous! Do the leather inserts hold up well and feel nice against skin?

I’ve inly jad my.bracelet for a month and have worn it 6 or 7x. So far so good. The inserts are reversible so both sides are finished and feel good next to skin. I started out cautiously because I’ve had issues with leather dye causing a skin reaction but these have not bothered me at all.

If passionfruit tastes as good as the perfume smells, I need to find passionfruit to eat!

Cool day – 61F now and headed toward a high of 63 plus rain, and 49F overnight (!?!). Figured it was as good a time as any to wear a favorite of summers past – L’Artisan Amour Nocturne. This really is more of a winter perfume and now I’m wondering why I ever wore it in summer LOL. Even in cool temps it’s a bit oppressive (caramel & orchid, heavy gourmand.)

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I’d bought a bottle of Chanel No 5 Parfum de Toilette online. It arrived yesterday and is indeed the real thing. Smells somewhere in between the edc and edt.

The bottle is quite old, with a propellant-based sprayer. It predates Chanel incorporating, presumably, as it just says “Chanel” and not Chanel, INC (as even my older vintage bottles do.)

Anyway, it’s a mystery (and I’m wondering if I should even wear it?) I guess I’ll try to contact Chanel at some point to ask when No 5 PdT was in production, as I was unable to find any info online.

I’m not sure how you wore Amour Nocturne in the summer, either! But I had a hard time with it anyway. I get a lot of the gunpowder which registers as metal and dill on me.
I wonder if there’s a Chanel historian/expert like Monsieur Guerlain. So odd not to find anything about that version anywhere on the web. Is it an aerosol can? That might give a clue as to the era i.e.: when propellants first came into use, and onwards. Anyway, enjoy the novelty!

I’m in the very summery Mint 26. It’s not a Le Labo, despite the name, but a fragrance that Josh Meyer (of Imaginary Authors) created as a homage to Le Labo. When some of the Portland perfumistas met up last summer and went to his workshop, he gave us all a bottle , plus loads of IA samples. I’m finding I have a lot of summer favorites, probably a month’s worth. Looking forward to wearing them all.

My really, really old Kindle finally gave up and refused to hold a charge anymore so I bought a Paperwhite model yesterday that comes with 6 months free Kindle Unlimited access. I was happy to see that the new one weighs less than half of the old.

i was listening to something on the radio yesterday about the cost of flea treatment for pets. Here, packages often contain 3 dosages in pipettes, each with aprox. 400mg. This works out at around $12 000 per litre. I think a litre of Amouage would cost a mere $5000 by comparison (NZ$). Just goes to show what a bargain perfume is.
Wearing two Smell Bents from the even cheaper garage sale:
Ice station pineapple…pineapple and coconut grafted onto a pine tree would smell like this. Good for those wanting the experience of a tropical holiday at a ski field. Great winter scent. Good fun.
Dead of winter: licorice and aniseed kind of like a hurraw lip blam or mavis toothpaste opening then a bit woody and piney.
2 thumbs up for making my day brighter, and work less boring, and cheaper than treating the dogs for fleas by a doggy mile

Early morning (routine) pest inspection at my co-op where a specially trained dog sniffs the internal walls, but the cat owners among us have to restrain (read: hold) squirming kitties in the hall.
I am having a terrible allergy morning but yesterday on my walk home stopped by a department store that had Hot Cologne and Prada Femme to smell your recent recommendations—it’s too bad I didn’t have any tiny vials with me as both counters were abandoned. No one to “help” me or to beg a sample off of…
The hot cologne smelled a lot like regular Mugler Cologne to my nose, I couldn’t pick up my sought-after coffee note (though I was just smelling the paper cone) and the Prada was nice, but sweeter than expected, (again, on paper)
Today I’ll wear something from summers past, Eau Duelle, as I have to go to 2 different work-based meet & greets.

The annual review yesterday went well enough, and am continuing my Sedate Week with some Ferre.

I did go fot Nuit de tubéreuse today, and later started sampling: you or someone like you (ELDO) is too minty for a very long time, not really my thing, so off it goes to the purgatory, and then Serpentine (CdG), this needs a retry (somewhat bland, but maybe better with cooler temperatures?).

Well, after the unexpected success of Loewe “Esencia pour homme” yesterday, I’m starting a week of perfiumes whose reputation precedes them. First of 4 from .vero.profumo is “Mito EdP”.

Notes are magnolia, citrus notes, champaca, jasmine, galbanum, hyacinth, cypress and oakmoss.

Wow, isn’t this stuff great? I mean, I’m not sure I want a FB, but what an experience! Sharp, citrusy, ultra-vivid green. This is Spring as painted by Douanier Rousseau. It has made me feel cool on a hot Summer’s day. :^)

      I love Douanier Rousseau!
Have you seen the Douanier exhibition last year in Paris?
I missed it :( (when i found out I had already booked a trip to Japan, so no money left for a trip to Paris in time).

I love Mito EDP. It smells particularly great to me when I am outside in the summer.

What have you done with the real Koenigsberg!!!!??? This is getting scary – two positive reviews in one week. You’re messing with my brain.

Very late today, in Corsica Furiosa, although it isn’t quite as hot today as yesterday so I will likely switch for dinner. Bracken Woman might be calling my name.

Wearing Musc Ravageur today. I got to try the oil, shower cream, and body butter. All are really great. I think the scent translated better into the shower cream and body oil than POAL did.

I’m appreciating the much lower humidity in my locale today. But wow, was there some wild weather to get through yesterday! The news mentioned possible tornadoes in both PA and DE.

SOTD = Diptyque’s Tam Dao EdT, from the sample stash. Works great in the summer. I bet this is also on some peoples’ “No-brainer” lists.

I saw a double rainbow yesterday – one was a faded whitish arch and the other one was a thick bright one!

Nice! I didn’t see any rainbows, but the sky last night right before the sun set was an incredible amethyst color.
