Monday scent of the day 6/19

Posted by Robin on 19 June 2017 256 Comments

Apples and pears 166

Monday. Also, happy Juneteenth, and happy World Sauntering Day! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Toit, from Kevin's top 10 of summer 2016. Nope, still don't love it.

Reminder: On 6/23, wear one of your "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Monday again (sigh!) The day right now is so beautiful that I would love to be outside enjoying it. Since we are at the end of the fiscal year, we are super busy rushing to meet deadlines. Wearing O de Lancome, one of my top 10 summer favorites and drinking a big cup of iced coffee. Have a great day everyone!

I ALMOST bought O de Lancome this weekend….I had some reward points about to expire, and this scent was in the running! It’s GOOD STUFF!!!!

(In the end, Coco Noir won my reward points! LOL) :)

Narciso edp. How have I not discovered this little department store gem until now? It’s lovely.
I wish he would give his scents more distinctive names though instead of just a variation of his own name. I feel like I need some sort of flow chart to keep the whole line straight. First world problems.
    Monday again!?!

You smell great! Yes! I either know them as black, silver, pink, maroon…bottles. I wish he’d/they re-release the Musc oil. I received so many compliments when I wore it. I once had a coworker follow me around enjoying the fragrance!

I adore the Oil as well, purchased a backup when it was relaunched last year so as to avoid heartache, this perfume is an absolute favorite of mine. Here’s the link to Lord & Taylor, they still have some in stock.

Temperatures are reaching the 30s (in Celcius, that would be at 86 fahrenheit) this whole week.
For us Dutchies, thats pretty warm.

I have no problem wearing more intense fragrances at home with this weather. But at work I am trying to keep it polite, a bit fresh and friendly. And I really crave something refreshing actually. Alas, my collection does not offer many options. So I am keeping track of what everybody’s wearing this week :)

To give you a rough ball park number, double the Celsius ( so that would be 2×30=60) and add 32(the fahrenheit temperature that water freezes) 2×30=60 plus 32 =92. It’s not completely accurate but it gives you a rough idea.

Jiji, I live in the desert (southern end of Death Valley in California), and today it’s supposed to reach a toasty 113 degrees (that’s 45 for you Celsius folks). And that’s NOT the high for the week.

I think many of the Jardins are fresh, and end up being friendly by virtue of relatively mild sillage and longevity. With the exception of Ambre Narguile, all of the Hermessences are office friendly.

Oh wowww that is hottttt!!! I dont think I ever experienced temperatures like that. 38 / 39 degrees celcius (101 F) is probably the max (in Italy).

In the Netherlands average high in july is 22.8 (73 degrees F)…and that is our hottest month. Hahahaha.
Record high here is 38 (100) by the way, but that is an exception.

I cannot imagine 45 being ‘a normal summer day’. But i guess you get used to it.

Jardin en M lasts longer than I thought. Someone once noticed it on me (and complimented me) after a 9 hour wear.

Yes I have my eye on a few Hermessences :) that 4×15 ml set seems like a great idea!

While I do have several full bottles that would do nicely for summer scents for this week’s project I am choosing to continue on with my sample sea. Last night I decided I was just going to dump everything in one bag and grab randomly….a nice mystery.

Today is Café Intense, Opus III and finishing up Seven Veils.

Good morning, NST! Hey, is the formatting of the blog different today for anybody else? Everything switched from left-justified to centered last night (on my iPad) and still is this morning (on a desktop computer). Apparently it stuck in my subconscious because I had my first NST-related dream (sort of a nightmare) last night – in my dream I had posted a very short, simple list of Acqua di Parma fragrances I like, and when I hit “post” it turned into such a long list of LINKS that it broke the website. I was frantically trying to email Robin to apologize when I woke up. Phew.

SOTD is vintage Vol de Nuit EDT – wore it to a Father’s Day celebration yesterday and it bloomed beautifully in the heat (somewhat the way the parfum concentration does) so I had to wear it again today. Happy Monday!

Today is so gorgeous! I was going to wear Alien Aqua Chic, but noticed the juice in my Alien Essence Absolute was looking a bit dark. Decided to wear that instead, in case it was turning. Does anyone have a recommendation for a concealer or color corrector for under eye circles? This is a new problem for me, and it is driving me crazy.

I have had under eye circles for years and concealing gets tougher as I get older and more wrinkled. The Cle de Peau concealer is always recommended to me but at $70 it would really eat into the fragrance budget so I haven’t tried it yet.

Bobbi Brown’s correcter is nice – creamy texture and blends well. I use it as my concealer and it does a reasonably good job.

I missed out on last week’s SOTD as I was too busy visiting Loire castles. Oddballs seemed somehow inappropriate for this occasion so I stuck with classical beauties like Enlèvement au Sérail, Promesse de l’Aube, Jubilation 25 and Fracas. Today I’m wearing my oddest white floral, Manoumalia which is the Tropics Undressed. It’s stunning and very appropriate for the hot weather we are having in the Netherlands.

I am so envious!! About the Loire Valley that is. When I was about 14 I traveled with my parents through the Loire Valley and absolutely loved it. We stayed at the Château de Lancheneil in an enormous suite on the first floor with huge windows that looked out on the gardens. A cat and her kittens came through my bedroom window and settled on my bed, which had an enormous painting of a hunting scene hung above it. I’ve never been back.

Isn’t it a wonderful place? I’ve never stayed in a castle there but I have visited a few by now. I did my first visit in the area 5 years ago. This time I visited the less well known ones between Angers and Tours (roughly). The one that stole my heart was the Château de Serrant. I just didn’t want to leave it. It has a stunning library and a gorgeous Grand Salon.
I felt awful on Saturday when I had to leave, it was just a perfect holiday.

A cat and her kittens came into bed with you? That is the most amazing thing I’ve ever heard? While you were staying in a chateau? Just awesome.

I am wearing Tea Rose, a lovely recommendation from here. Fresh roses…
Slightly off topic. My brother is going to NY and I begged him to buy me essential oils from Enfleurage. On my list is Sanctuary, any other recommendations? Its for my diffuser.

For general ambient use I like Sanctuary, Fire and Citrus Cheer the best. The latter is their most popular. I’ve used some of their other blends for more specific therapeutic effects, and they’re all good. If your wallet can tolerate it, I’d advise the 10ml sizes versus the 5ml as diffusing can use them up very quickly.

Good morning and happy new week, everyone! This week I will take the foster kittens for their spay-neuter surgery and then next weekend they will go to the adoption center. Very bittersweet! I am going to miss them so much!
SOTD is a sample of Roja Gardenia — does not do what it claims to, capturing the scent of gardenia (I just don’t get that buttery aspect) but it’s an awfully pretty fragrance anyway! I’m definitely picking up the heliotrope.

Fostering is not for me. I get too attached to animals and I always think they will do better if they are with me. A couple of years ago, I took care of one of my friend’s dog’s for 6 months when she went to work overseas and the day she came back and picked the dog up, I cried for weeks. What you do is really wonderful!

Good morning. It has been so hot here for us NorCal weaklings who are only evolved to experience temperatures between 60-80 F. I had to make an unexpected trip on Fri to Weed, CA (halfway point between Oakland and Eugene to meet a friend) and it got up to 114 F in places. Ugh! I had brought only one perfume–something I think may have been from Foxbins originally–Grand Bal. GB held up fine in the heat, if lightly applied. Fragrantica calls it a floral woody musk, but I think it is closer to a fruity floral, done Dior style.

The way I wound up with the perfume was that I had the pleasure of Waterdragon’s company on Friday, and it was something that Foxbins shared with her that she passed on to me (the sisterhood of the traveling perfumes done face to face–we should do more of it. Waving thanks at you Foxbins!).

We had our own private sniffapalooza with perfume, pastries and coffee. Here’s a pic I took of the mess we made: https://www.instagram.com/?hl=en

Y’all want to know what she’s like? She’s beautiful and effortlessly manages what would be impossible for most (i.e. when asked how I’d recognize her at the train station, she said, “I’ll be wearing a black dress covered in mad ladies and daisies”), tells a lovely story of meeting Mr. Waterdragon, and uses a flip phone.

And finally, is anyone else experiencing NST blog posts now being justified in the center of the square instead of to the left? I am wondering if I’ve done something wacky.

SOTD? No idea yet, but it it will something with citrus in all this heat!!!!

After working 6 days straight, I have a day off. Woke up a little later that what I wanted but that’s more than ok and put a load of laundry in the washer. I decided to stop by before I started on the dishes. Has anybody replaced an iPod battery before? My iPod nano’s battery won’t hold a charge anymore but the thing is 7 years old. The nearest Apple store is 45 minutes away and I’m not willing to drive there and spent $60 for someone to do it. It would probably be $20 for the battery and $40 for somebody to take 5 minutes to replace it. SOTD is going to be vintage Bal.

My dad tried replacing an iPod battery himself. Can’t remember if it was a Nano or a Shuffle, but it would’ve been about the same age as yours. It did not go well as he said it was nearly impossible to get the thing open in order to access the battery. It ended up wrecking the iPod. Unless you can take it to somebody who has experience with this sort of thing, you might be better off taking it to the Apple store. Hope that helps!

Feeling very fallish with the pears & apples.. although I’ll eat an apple year round.
Doing some sampling this week and first up is Aroma M Vanilla Hinoki which is quite a blast of bergamot right off the opening. Wow! Vanilla and smoke as it settles, but very quiet and barely noticeable scent on skin. It’s pretty and wonder if with a bunch of sprays it would be more present than the dabber.
Work has finally calmed down just a smidgen.. but it helps. Hope to get back to my cookie baking this week!

Because it’s summer most of the year her, I could probably do a Top Thirty of Summer list!

I love fig in the hot weather, so SOTD is Ninfeo Mio.

Wearing Nishane Ambra Calabria today, for the sake of review I want to post in a few days.

Also, stopped by Douglas on my way home and smelled new Bvlgari Splendida fragrances. Iris d’Or is nice but it’s not a love for me. A little bit carroty first until it goes sheer floral way. Rose Rose was a pastel pink rose with fruity nuances. Actually Jasmin Noir was the most lovely in this bunch, a gentle jasmine with something that reminded me of… chocolate?

SOTD is Loewe “Esencia pour homme”.

    Top: artemisia, juniper berries, lavender, green notes, tarragon, galbanum, bergamot, lemon and petitgrain;
    Mid: clary sage, nutmeg, basil, jasmine, neroli, lily-of-the-valley, rose, pine, geranium and blackcurrant;
Base: tonka, leather, sandalwood, fir, amber, patchouli, musk, oakmoss, vetiver, cedar and styrax.

On first spray I thought “hmmm, this is kind of generic men’s stuff” but moments later it developed into something a lot richer and more complex. The dry down is lovely. Longecity isn’t great, maybe 2.5-3 hours on me. Great for a hot Summer’s day.

And now I am going to saunter back to my AirBnB apartment. I’ll probably be a sweaty hot mess when I arrive there, but hey. :^)

I’m in L’eau Par Kenzo Pour Homme (I think I have that right) this morning. I was placing an order for Flower Elixir, and this one, and others, umm, were ordered also. ????
I like it, don’t love it, but sometimes a fragrance will grow on me.

SOTD is Atelier’s Jasmin Angelique, just lightly dabbed but with amazing lasting power even 5 hours into the day. I love it, but I’ve found its best used sparingly since too much of it can quickly cross the line from “sparkling yet slightly smokey” to “lone jasmine flower floating in dirty bong water” when applied with a heavy hand. :) (And as the only lady on my team, the whole office would know pretty quickly who’s the culprit when it comes to stinky perfumes!)

I think they’re really great. It’s the only all natural line I really enjoy. The Detox Market has some in her line and sells samples, plus the SI website sells samples of every perfume and also offers a kit and then you get a credit towards a full bottle. The line is expensive, and similar to Frederic Malle the prices differ based on the ingredients of the specific perfume. My personal favorites include: Fair Verona, Epic Gardenia, Black Rosette. Aquarian Rose, The Rose with the Broken Neck, Dimanche, L’Invisible and Essence of XI are great too. Haha. I know that’s a lot…But what is nice is that she doesn’t keep releasing perfumes, most have been around for quite a while. (And I really like Atlantic on my husband.)

I’m a huge SIP fan too. My favorites are L’Invisible, Urban Lily, Epic Gardenia, and Fair Verona. I also like Magazine Street, Dimanche, Moon Garden, and Tropical Vial. I have a bunch of parfum samples from their older offerings like Galetea, Persica, and Heroine that I should probably start using up before they evaporate.

Elizabeth, yes they all are. All of the bottles I own are their older design, back when the prices for 50ml ranged from $135 (way back it seems, but I recall it well because L’Invisible was my first niche full bottle, full price purchase) to $200ish. I found many of these on eBay 3-5 years ago.

Working at home today and wearing Mem, which I adore. The weirdest thing is that it doesn’t smell like lavender at all to me, or at least not the wane lavender I’ve encountered in my life. Now have to shower and venture into the heat, though, and will likely spritz something lighter. Corsica Furiosa perhaps . . .

Wait, wha? Mem? Lavender? Just googled it. By Bogue. The reviews on Fragrantica are all over the place. The description of the scent on Luckyscent is definitely one of their more creative. I was intrigued by Maai, but it was so sophisticated it made me feel a little frumpy and not very smart.

I am commando today because I had the perfume out that I was going to wear but then walked off and forgot to put it on and realized what I had done about halfway to work.

I was *going to* wear Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Rosa Pop, which I found at Marshalls over the weekend. Apparently it was a duty-free one because it says “Travel Exclusive” or something like that on the box. It was probably a waste of $30 but it’s a nice little rose-violet with a touch of raspberry, which I don’t have a lot of in my collection.

I’m wearing Diptypque Eau Lente today on an unusually summery day in Northern California. I didn’t think of this as a summer scent but I’m finding it works really well on me–uplifting dry spices–and I’ve been enjoying it for a few days now. Someone who used to comment frequently on this blog who I got to know in real life sent me a GIGANTIC bottle of this with only a few mls left in the bottom, and since I’ve started this “finish it” program with decants that just have a bit left, I think he wanted me finish it for him so I’m doing my best ;)

Well, I had a bit of a perfume fail today. I thought that Ava Luxe Neroli Blossom was a summer favorite, but I must have sprayed too much because it immediately worsened the headache I woke up with and smelled extra sharp. It also caused my officemate to ask if I’m wearing a different perfume today because it was bothering her too. Last time my perfume bothered her (Jour d’Hermes Absolu) she asked me the same thing, so I knew right away where she was going with it. I told her the same thing as before, that I wear a different perfume *every* day. Luckily, a good hand soap and water scrubbing helped a lot.

SOTD = Jo Malone Basil and Neroli

This joined my collection after I used a body / hand wash sample. Am I loving it? Absolutely! Does it last long on my non scent-eating screen? Absolutely not! 8 sprays for 5 hours…and I dare not go for more because it does pack a punch upon first spray.

Tomorrow, I will be trying out Arielle Shoshana!
