Thierry Mugler Aura ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 12 June 2017 18 Comments

Aura Mugler

Thierry Mugler will launch Aura, a new oriental fragrance for women, later this month. Aura is the brand's first pillar for women since 2010's Womanity, and will be fronted by model Zhenya Katava.

Aura was developed by perfumer Daphné Bugey. The notes include rhubarb leaf, orange blossom, bourbon vanilla and wolfwood. According to Bugey, the fragrance also features tiger liana:

It was used for many years in Chinese medicine. It's the roots that are extracted from the plant, and it took us 10 years to register the ingredient and be able to use it in perfume - and now it's exclusive to this new Mugler fragrance. It combines this botanical and animal aspect which is the heart of the story, it has the addictive scent of sugared almond and vanilla but it is also quite smoky.

Thierry Mugler Aura will be available in 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum and in matching body products.

Update: additional perfumers for Aura include Amandine Clerc Marie, Christophe Raynaud and Marie Salamagne. The fragrance is a green oriental.

Oh, I like Bugey! This sounds more promising than Womanity was.

I liked Womanity, but Mugler has a hard time living up to their early blockbusters. Hope this one is good.

I also like Womanity, especially the limited edition versions (leather and the taste of fragrance), but we seem to be in the minority. After Angel Muse was introduced, Womanity quitely dissappeared from the shelves.

Finally a new scent; weirdly excited for this one, even though I only enjoy Angel and A*men (vintage). Let it be good, let it be good!

    Interesting!
So far I have not found a Mugler I like. But I respect them for daring to be different and not making stuff that smells like 10000 other designer frags.

    Wolfwood – because trimethyl-bicyclo-heptane-spiro-
cyclohexenone didn’t resonate with anyone in the marketing department. ;)

Trying to find out more about Wolfwood (a Firmenich captive molecule), I came across this research on “gender and cultural differences in verbal affective response to odors”:

    https://academic.oup.com/chemse/article/38/2/175/332270/Variability-of-Affective-Responses-to-Odors

It will take me some time to wade through the technical language and details.

Mugler already did a scent called Aura, which was part of their 15-bottle coffret launched alongside the movie Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. It was supposed to contain notes from all the other fourteen bottles and meant to be worn with any of them, which is why it was in a larger bottle (15- or 30-mL as opposed to the 7.5-mL bottles of the others, I believe). I wanted that set SO BAD but I could never justify the $800 or so.

So I wonder if this will be any relation. Probably not, but it’s the first thing I thought of.

I cannot wait to try this!! Thinking of even buying it blind! As for the bottle, I’m still trying to figure out what it is supposed to resemble.

To me, it looks like a carnivorous heart taken out from some extraterritorial beast…then prepared into a vessel with a golden? neckring to hold a mysterious juice. It might have been taken out from the Alien, so I’m not really seeing the attraction of the bottle in the way others seem to perceive…

I’m so excited! But also feeling a little cautious. I was excited for Womanity, and doused myself the second I saw it, immediately had to scrub. I will have to remember to spray the strip first with Aura.

I’m a big fan of Mugler fragrances, so I’m very excited about this. The bottle looks fantastic, true Mugler style and very innovative ????

I recently sniffed Rhubarbe Écarlate by Hermes and fell in love. so I’ve been looking around for more perfumes that have rhubarb in. you don’t really hear of many perfume with rhubarb as one of the notes. so I’m excited to sniff this! also, orange blossom and vanilla are two of my other favourite smells. so I’m extra excited.

I’m not a fan of the bottle though, I don’t know why. I want it to look more jewel shaped, like Alien. it looks like a flanker of Vera Wang Princess. in fact there have been so many, there probably is a green flanker, ha. and the silver trim reminds me of Wonder Woman’s tiara, or the Evil Queen’s collar from Snow White. :)

You’re right with the Snow White’s evil stepmother collar. I might be the only one, but I see eyes and an evil smiling mouth on the bottle, a bit like of a predator bird.
