It's Hump Day and Chocolate Ice Cream Day, plus, happy birthday to Tom Jones! What fragrance are you wearing?
It's pineapple for me today, with good old L'Artisan Parfumeur Ananas Fizz.
Reminder: 6/9 will be Fruity Friday! (A repeat from 2014.) Wear something fruity. Doesn't have to be a fruity floral, just something with plenty of fruit.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the pineapple ukulele ("Charm beach-goers with this pineapple-patterned ukulele that provides a sweet accompaniment for your favorite campfire tunes.") by Sunnylife is $30 at Nordstrom. (The matching candle is today's lemming.)
SOTD- Escada Limited Edition 1997 Que Viva
Top notes- passionfruit, pineapple
Mid notes- floral notes, apple, pear
Base notes- woods, musk
Testing Demeter Golden Delicious for the apple note- sweet and light and nice
The Demeters really are a lot of fun
I love it that you are doing all these Escada’s!
I decided it was time to stop hoarding and start using!
Wow, the Que Viva sounds fun! That one is before my (perfume) time.
it’s great…it is sweet but it has some heft to it (in other words there is a drydown !!)
I’ve been meaning to delve into some of the Demeters just for fun..
Oh do give them a whirl! They are fun and very economical!
I’m wearing ‘Noir de Noir’ by Tom Ford. It’s a sample and I’m still undecided if I should get a full bottle but it sure is lovely.
I think someone just got a bottle of that at a discount. Was it She-ra?
Guilty! And Notino has a 10% coupon SLASH10 (no affiliation) still in play I believe.
Didn’t mean to call out your purchase, but if it could help another NSTer find it at a discount then I say Donatella would approve.
Indeed, I don’t mind at all.
It is really good. Finish you sample and see if you’re craving for more
I love Noir de Noir. One of my few FBs. You smell wonderful.
It sure is…just discovered that one myself. I blame market saturation on the delay to me finding it…
Feeling Nostalgic in Cristalle EDT (thank you to a generous NSTer)
Made an order on Culture Cup, trying a new MF and also got a small bag of their coffee. I wrote to them about my specific concerns regarding coffee and they came back with some recommendations so I will give it a whirl.
Here comes the sun little darling…great weather!
Good luck, hope you like your new tea & coffee!
Thanks Robin, they shipped the same day as my order, which is nice. Let me know if you have specific recommendations.
I will stay out of it — I really like a few Mariage Freres teas but I dislike probably 70% of their flavored teas that I have tried. Most of them are too sweet for me. So it’s all individual taste
And if I’m ordering non-flavored teas, I can’t see any reason to buy from MF while living in the US, it’s just an extra layer of “travel” for the tea.
I like flavored teas so MF is one of my favorites.
lovestosmellgood, if you’re a fan of flavored teas, David’s Tea specializes in them. It’s a Canadian company, but they have an online US shop. I’ve tried a lot of them – if you email me, I might be able to help you out.
I have one right near me and have tried them. Glad there is another fan!
In the City of Sin: fruity, spicy, and a little medicinal, like a summer EDT version of a Lutens…
Serge should do “Chergui Summer”, right?
Haha, yes! L’Air de Chergui.
Admittedly Datura Noir is already very summery….
I go back and forth on Datura Noir. Sometimes it smells quite lush and beautiful, and other times it seems to teeter on the edge of over-ripeness. My favorite Lutens is Douce Amere, which is quite light relative to most of the line.
I haven’t smelled it in over a year but I kind of like its slightly trashy vacation vibe
Wearing Shalimar (vintage found at estate sale still sealed). I am facing a classroom of parents this morning. Each student recites a poem from memory this morning. We have been learning them all year. In this day and age most children are always on camera etc. so they do not seemed fazed by it but I hate being in front of adults. I do not think perfume gives you courage for that, but the older formula may be strong enough to keep them at an arms length.
What a great find! Best wishes for you and your students ????
Great find, I love vintage Shalimar, you smell perfect
Such a great find. You smell magnificent!
I hope your recital went well, and that you were able to relax and enjoy it.
We are twins in vintage Shalimar loveliness. ❤️
Encre Noire Sport by Lalique – bringing the summer scents to the front. I do like the original much better though. This one has an aquatic note and although it doesn’t mind me here, I am not a fan of aquatic perfumes.
Nor am I, but it would be hard to ruin Encre Noire
Guerlain SDV. I will have to look though my sample jar to see if I have anything fruity. My mind draws a blank. Have a great day! ????
Love SDV, just wish it wasn’t so expensive.
Have you tried the Eau de Missions? It crazy cheap and a pretty good dupe for SDV. I have a bottle at home, which I purposely didn’t pack because of the distinct ETOH vibe. Not really appropriate for work (at least for my work).
However, I am wondering if it is d/c because it is becoming much more challenging to find…for a while it was sold at Ulta and amazon had a huge bottle for dirt cheap…not anymore
Really? I had no clue. It’s quite nice, I’m shocked it’s so hard to find now…????
Yup, it’s discontinued, and has been for most of a year at least? I went by a Marionnaud in France that has a big Couvent des Minimes display last November or so and they told me it had been discontinued for a while. Luckily, a kind NSTer gave me a generous decant, so I’m good on my boozy baking vanilla scents for a while.
SOTD is Vetiver Tonka.
Exciting plans for today: an oil change and tire rotation. Cause I live on the edge, baby! ????
You smell great! Car twins! I’m getting mine detailed to get ready to sell. I looked up the Chacos – those are really cool shoes and lots of styles.
Hey car twin! The Chacos are de-light-ful! I was skeptical, but they are quite comfortable, secure, and supportive. Cute to boot!
SDV is delicious- I got a decant in a swap and love it! You smell great, and good luck selling your car. ????
I looked up Chaco’s after your discussion. They are cute and I might have ordered some myself, except I had just ordered a pair of Birk’s with the soft footbed. They’re dusky lavender suede and I never want to take them off!
Oh those Birks sound pretty. I have a pair of the classic two strap brown that I’ve had for years and the most comfortable ever.
I’ve been looking at the suede strap ones for my H.
Have you guys tried Mephistos? I have 2 pair of Helens. Similar concept to Birkenstocks, but for my feet, even more comfortable. They have a massive arch support but I don’t really feel it under my foot, which is not always the case with supportive shoes.
I’ve tried on Mephisto’s many times and she hey are very comfortable but never bought any. They’re a little too pricey for me.
There’s nothing like a new pair of Birks! They’re just so comfortable on the feet. They come in such a variety of cute colors and styles compared to when I first started buying them 25 years ago.
That soft foot bed is fantastic! I tried a pair on in store and thought I’d died and gone to ped-heaven! Enjoy them!
Journey Woman for me today. I don’t have fruity scents, but I have some sweet-ish scents. Journey has always been very honeyed and floral on me.
I am wearing Ichnusa, Profumum Roma (from a sample)
It has fig. Its lovely, but I already have Philosykos, dont know if i need another fig.
Ichnusa is a contemplative and very green, almost herbal, fig. Philosykos is sunnier and more carefree imo.
If that makes any sense at all. Haha
And I swear, I could still smell Dilettante this morning (I applied it yesterday evening around 9 PM, royally, 4 sprays of orange goodness!)
Happy “Hump Day” Everyone!
Sitting at my desk at work enjoying some strawberry rhubarb yogurt. Yum!
My SOTD is Insolence by Guerlain. I guess this one is considered a fruity-floral. This was a “blind buy” that I purchased a few months ago. Its a nice fragrance, but not so much my style. But, I don’t mind wearing it. Have a great day everyone!
Yum, strawberry rhubarb yogurt! Can you buy that flavor or did you mix in the strawberry and rhubarb yourself?
Robin, you smell so wonderful!! I love that scent.
I am in the closest scent I have to it – Mancera Sicily – a happy citrus with a pineapple note.
So I need to try Mancera Sicily!
SOTD is Ginestet Sauvignonne. The list of notes includes peach. It does not really smell of peaches to me, but there is something slightly fruity in this scent – fresh fruity, not sweet fruity.
That one is so lovely, sadly it doesn’t last on me, but the first hour is great!
Spicy intellectual melons with Le parfum de Thérèse. And thanks to all your good wishes I passed my exam last night, another one to go tonight, but hopefully that will go swimmingly as well.
Tea is a delicious jasmine oolong that I managed to overbrew.
Parfume de Therese is classic beauty
It is, very much like Diorella.
Spicy Intellectual Melons Great way to put it! You smell wonderful.
It’s such a brainy scent as are most Roudnitska’s, and it does smell of melon.
Oh, congrats! Test taking can be nerve wracking…
I never used to mind, but I do now. I’ll be glad when that part is done, and thanks!
All my melons are intellectual melons
Congratulations on passing the exam! Good luck on the second one.
Thanks, just 25 minutes to go.
Congratulations and good luck!
Just got confirmation that I passed, all is well again. And thank you!
Congrats! You’re breezing right through those!
Congratulations! And in your honor, I am wearing Enlèvement au Sérail this evening .
Thats a beauty. Wearing it tomorrow! Besides it was a present from my brother, so sweet.
And yes, it is very intelectual.
Glad it went well. Good luck tonight!
Congrats on your exam results! And your tea sounds wonderful.
Congratulations, and you smell wonderful!
Thanks everyone for all the good wishes, I’m sure they helped!
Wearing Stash from a sample a lovely fairy from the community sent me. It is really good and my husband said he wants a bottle. So next time Im in the US I will get one for us to share!
Stash is really nice. Have your tried the Elxir oil?
No, I haven´t. On the list!
Finally back in the office! Drinking coffee with few drops of orange blossom water and wearing Jour d’Hermes to nicely face a very busy day of drafting and reports. Take care and smile everyone!
lovely on all fronts. I add orange blossom to my tea a lot.
I am not a tea drinker, but whenever I crave for some, orange blossom adds a very special touch to the tea. The flavor and smell is fantastic. So delicious!
I also had orange blossom water to puddings and rice dishes. A little bit goes a long way
That coffee does sound nice! I’ve added a few drops of rose water and a dash of cardamom to my coffee which is also really good.
I also love to add to my coffee lavender and jasmin water. When I use rose water I either add cardamon or saffron. I keep very small bottles here at work. The combinations are divine!
I had a cold brew coffee yesterday with orange slices in it (from the Nordstrom cafe) – it was so delicious! I never would have guessed that combo would be amazing.
It does seem odd to me too, but coffee and chocolate are similar in my mind and chocolate-orange is a great combo. I worked with a West Indian woman who used to order black coffee with lemon when I would make a run to the deli. That always sounded awful to me.
A shot of espresso with a twist of lemon peel is fantastic.
Actually, I’ve had that! Don’t know why it sounded so weird to me.
In Caligna after Elisa and Nancyleandros yesterday! I would not be sold on this except that every now and then I get a waft of what smells very much like a really good, juicy perfect nectarine (the kind that, in my biased opinion, you can only get in New Jersey.) It’s so vivid that I may need to find a bottle of this…
I love nectarines. Was passing right by the produce section last time I did a quick stop at the grocery store for milk (two teenage boys in the house, four gallons a week, yikes) — until I got a whiff of ripe nectarine and HAD to stop and get some. The three we haven’t eaten yet are making the kitchen smell delicious right now.
I love them too. My theory: a perfect peach is unbeatable, but the average nectarine is better than the average peach.
I think nectarines need even more to be perfect!
SOTD is the lemon-almond goodness of Dior Escale a Portofino. Yummy.
Good morning, everyone. Today we’re heading off to Columbia Gorge. I’m excited by this part of the trip–we’ll, I’ve been excited by all of it, actually. We had a wonderful time at Walmart ( I have that right, now) arguing over the replacement Thermos, so we will set off today secure in the knowledge that we can supply ourselves with very hot tea along the way. I’m wearing Dzing, from a sample lovely Gaynor sent me. I like it a lot: it seems to fit my holiday mood. I smell happy.
Speaking of holidays, I’m loving this one. The drive to here was really interesting, though we’re puzzled as to where all the farm animals are. I saw some goats in a small paddock, but no sheep or cows at all, though some signs told us we were in dairy country. But actually, I couldn’t see what the animals would’ve eaten: there didn’t seem to be a lot of grass. It’s all fascinating. Everyone is very charming and helpful, though I’m getting a little tired of explaining that no, I’m not English, and failing that, not Australian either. I hope I don’t sound rude, but honestly, there are more countries in the South Pacific than just our large neighbour.
Mals, if you should see this, I have found a post office nearby and will send the Wit today before we leave here. I don’t know if I need to send you other information such as a tracking number. I will learn as I go.
Be well, all.
Have a great time waterdragon !
Are there Wal-Marts in the southern hemisphere?
No, not Walmarts, but there is a chain of shops called The Warehouse. It probably isn’t as comprehensive as Walmart, though. Actually, I shouldn’t say anything, because in truth, I haven’t been to a Warehouse for years. It might be very similar now.
Everything sounds wonderful – so glad the trip is going well. Hurray!
Just a quick note to say that most of the farm animals are found in the Willamette Valley (and that’s pronounced will-AM-ette, not WILL-am-ETTE), which the I-5 freeway runs through the middle of south of Salem. Alternatively, there should be lots of sheep in fields along the highway to the coast (either Highway 26 or Highway 18), and maybe a few cows and horses.
Chiming in to say that I was laughing yesterday that you were unfamiliar with Walmart…not laughing at you, just that you have never experienced that “superstore” (and the comedy TV show which bears that name is hilarious, btw)…glad that you are enjoying your trip.
The sun is out, today is the last day of work before summer vacation, I am feeling really great and looking forward to summer, I am wearing a happy scent FM Eau de Magnolia.
That’s on my to try list. Is it heavy or more of a transparent scent?
It is not heavy at all, it is uplifting and very well balanced, it is perfect.
Ha, it just moved up on my “to try” list ????
Happy last day of work before vacation!
One of my favorites!
Have a fabulous summer vacation!
Housemate with Robin as I continue fruity week in L’Artisan Mure et Musc Extreme.
In the spirit of fruit, I’ve branched out from my strict vanilla diet and am wearing Rubj EDP and some coconut oil (because my skin and nails have been sooo dry).
Speaking of coconut (or not), I tried the 2017 Bronze Goddess EDP the other day and was surprised by how dissimilar the EDP is to the skinscent. The EDP is very gingery, and despite my usual aversion to ginger in perfume, I thought this was kind of charming.
I tried that a week or so ago, thinking it was the 2017 iteration of the Eau Fraiche. At first I got a nice tame chewey white floral with coconut that I actually liked! Gad Zooks! What magic is this?! But then it just got bigger and bigger and totally turned me off. To me it smelled like a cheaper version of Guerlain Terracotta. My nose must be completely wonky. ????
SOTD is Elie Saab L’eau Couture because I can’t say no to almonds and neroli.
My hands smell like the grapefruit I peeled for breakfast this morning, so that’s going to have to count as my fruit for the day
You smell great. I love that scent. It was a blind buy based on the almond note.
that counts in my book.
We had peaches this morning for a snack so I smell like peaches and cristalle.
I’m sampling Fruitchouli Flash for the first time today. I ordered several Tauer samples. I forgot about them until today. For some reason, all last night when thinking about what fruity fragrance to wear today, all I could think about was fig. And I don’t even like most fig! However, the same box that held my sample of Philosykos also held my Tauer samples and the first one I saw was Fruitchouli Flash. Aha! And I actually really like it. The fruit seems to be the most prominent right now, so it will be interesting to see what the drydown will be like.
I’ve heard that’s a good one. You found it right on time????
I’m actually a pretty big fan of Fruitchouli Flash. I sorta thought I was the only one
I like it too, even bought a FB!
I love Fruitchouli flash and you have just inspired me for what to wear Friday!
Extra long workout, working out makes all aspects of life more enjoyable.
Fruit cocktail, no added sugar.
Gucci Accenti, peach, raspberry, tangerines, rose, jasmine.
I kept wondering why this smelled “of its time “, then it came to me. Unlike recent perfumes, the only sweetness (not much) comes from the floral notes. Very nice.
They be creepin’……
Triple strength coffee.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
I never see it mentioned, Accenti is so good!
I think it was an orphan scent, fell between regimes so it wasn’t promoted.
Timing is everything!
Hope you’re doing well!
Bear, if i recall correctly, you also have Sicily? Another gem that fell off the radar.
Good memory, I do indeed.
Hibiscus, coconutty smelling, and soapy.
Unique, I will wear it if the weather ever stays warm consistently.
D & G.
OOOH! Sicily! I remember that one..wonder why if fell off the radar? It was good!
I loved Sicily so much, that after I drained my large bottle, I went to buy another. By then, it was not to be found.
Sounds like your SOTD goes great with your coffee.
Some days there’s just not enough coffee in the world…today is one of those days. I do, however, smell pretty dang good if I do say so myself. In Tocca’s Colette with a spray (or 2 or 3) of Escentric 01 over it. I love the bright opening of both plus the woody dry down. The only fruit is citrus I believe- lemon, mandarin, lime peel- but so nice.
As it turns out I do not have a lot of fruity perfume I don’t think. Maybe need to branch out! The ones I do have are mainly citrus.
Have you tried the new one from Ari Shoshana?
I have not, but it sounds wonderful! I actually enjoy fruit in perfumes, especially when the fruit is prominent. I loved the guava and passionfruit in the Adam Levine from yesterday. I assume I also should try Pulp, if for no other reason than just to see what everyone else is talking about.
I have not tried Pulp or Adam Levine.
In general I am not a fruity kind of person but AS is really nice. Saving it for Friday, since its my only fruity perfume if you don’t count citrus.
Ari is so much fun. I’m reeking in it and other things today.
I’ve been regretting not having a sample of that for this week’s community project!
I like Colette. Was it you that called it the poor man’s Gypsy Water? Lol. Either way, you smell nice!
I love Colette! I should check out Gypsy Water . . .
If you like Colette I can pretty much guarantee you’ll like Gypsy Water!
Yep, that was me lol. I just think it’s really nice and easy for the office and such.
Feeling much better and back to work today. Glad that bug was short-lived! To celebrate, I’m wearing Ormonde Jayne Frangipani. The sqeeze of mouth-puckering lime in the top notes is quite the pick-me-up. Such a pretty fragrance and it doesn’t overwhelm me like some white florals can. (I dabbed from my decant so that helps).
And I love that ukele! I’m lemming one I saw in a shop that’s shaped like a halved watermelon.
I didn’t even realize it was a ukulele, thought it was a guitar. I guess I should real the photo info! But, I thought ukuleles were round? Or am I thinking of a banjo? Sadly, I seem to stringed instrument ignorant…????
Banjos are round. Ukeles are usually shaped like mini guitars (or watermelons ????) except with 4 strings instead of 5. They do make banjo-leles which are ukes with a banjo sound-great for old-timey tunes.
You smell so great. I am usually overwhelmed by white florals also, so was worried about Frangipani, but it’s just wonderful. There’s enough brightness to balance the flowers.
Thanks! I was surprised at how much I liked this one. My top picks from my samples were not the ones I thought I’d go for.
Glad you are better!
Everyone I know has been getting something. With the weather temperatures fluctuating it doesn’t surprise me.
Here comes the sun though..
Thanks and me too! Supposed to heat up this weekend. Today is very comfortable temp, though.
Good you are feeling better. 80’s and even 90’s for next week are very promising, but I am surprised that lately I am not tolerating the heat very well. I don’t know why since I prefer very hot to cold temperatures. Anyway, looking forward to summer!
80s is great, 90s I’m not a fan of, but it beats freezing!
Glad you recovered so quickly. You made me think of my husband’s Uncle Sammy who used to play at family cookouts during the summer. He was a character. I think that you probably need a watermelon Ukele. ????????
I like Uncle Sammy already ???? One day watermelon will be mine… This kid is my uke idol:
Loved the video! Amazing talent for such a young girl.
Great to hear that you are feeling better!
It’s NVC Rahele kind of day
You smell divine!
You smell great!
Rahele! So gorgeous!
Sampling En Voyage Perfumes Zelda today. Some combination of notes (the “creamy” magnolia + the vanilla?) is giving me illusory almond whiffs. Nice thus far, but I think I need to apply more heavily to really get a feel for it.
That to me was straight up Palo Santo wood which I burn in the back yard. It has a minty smell to it.
That sounds amazing — can I come sit by the fire?
Absolutely! Also scares away the mosquitoes while it’s burning. It smells really great.
Oh, I love Zelda! Can’t wait to get home to my bottle. I get a creamy but but dark floral that morphs a bit, mildly disturbing, but in the most beautiful way- almost melancholic. It does come to life when sprayed rather than dabbed.
Zelda was my SOTN last night. Very pretty!
Badgley Mischka for me today. I bought a mini of the parfum based on TS’s review – I don’t love it as much as she does but I’m happy to wear it once in a while and it certainly fits the fruity theme!
I’ve got some of that but didn’t remember it as fruity. Will have to dig it out and re-test.
To me it’s very fruity with apricots, mangoes and black currants!
Plums via Natoria for me today. Not a scent I wear much as weather warms up. I still think something has gone on this scent or my nose has gone anosmic to it in some way. I used to get a strong plumminess but it’s faint now.
Getting ready for another 100+ day in Philosykos. I don’t quite love fig scents, but this is nice on a hot day . . .
Hot! But I agree- Philosykos seems made for hot days like that.
Wow, that’s hot!
103 as of now! (spritz spritz)
Wednesday! It’s also Prince Day (RIP) and International Running Day!
1) Was going to go to a cheap movie night last night, but I am doing a no food takeout month*, so by the time i was done making dinner, I would have been seeing the movie at 900 PM, too late for a person who starts work at 645 AM. So stayed in and read the rest of Children of Dune instead.
2) SOTD: Le Jardin du Monsieur Li. I really like this when it is warm. Winter subdues it, but in the late spring/early summer this is a lovely skin scent that radiates with a bit of heat.
3) PSA: Zulilly has some really awesome deals going on right on scents if you are needing anything. Mostly department store faves like Guerlain, Sisley andThierry Mugler.
*I spent some bs cash on drinks +apps alone! Amazing!
I had a craving for a Swiss Cheese, German Bologna, and Sourdough sandwich, a few days. Now, even though I have enough for many sandwiches, it was still 22 bucks !
At the supermarket!
Thanks for the reminder.
Shut up already! Damn!
Ha! It is odd how food prices can seem! And single dishes seems to cost quite a bit make, making the takeout seem more doable! But as was said in my household management course, this is false economy.
And i will be singing along to Prince in the lab office. The machines and circuit boards are appreciative company!
hey Bear can I have one of those sandwiches? sounds delicious.
Yes, do want the bread toasted ?
I love Sourdough bread, gotta have my carbs !!!
I REALLY need someone to talk me out of the two things in my Zulily cart- one is Shalimar EDT (I already have the edp and the edc, do I really need the edt too lol?) and also Mitsouko which I’ve only sniffed once but liked it.
Talking you out of it…DON’T GET IT…..there, did that help?
Eh, kinda. I’ll delete one of them ha!
Nope- just get things you know that you ABSOLUTELY must have. I would totes go for the Mitsouko- the price is very good!
Exactly, it’s such a bargain lol! And the Shalimar, I mean, it’s my favorite, so that’s how I justify needing ALL the versions.
I’m pretty sure i left my make up bag in the bathroom at work. Of course it’s not there now. Lipsticks, eyeliner and perfume samples. Ugh…my stupid fault but i really hate thieves. Anyway it is a beautiful day. Sotd is My Burberry Black. Peachy rose, i smell pretty darn good.
Uuuuugh, that stinks!
Oh, I feel for you and your missing makeup bag
Here’s hoping that it will magically reappear!
That is soooo mean!
Boo on the missing makeup bag! And a pox on the sticky fingers that took it!
That is terrible. I hate dishonesty. I just witnessed an incident on my way home. The conductor came through the train car after the Newark Airport stop. A couple with luggage looked very sad and said they missed their stop. The conductor did not make them pay or cough up a ticket and said they have to get to the next stop and go to the other side to pick up the train going towards NY. Oh, how much longer is it to get to the next stop and when is the next train; the conductor mumbled something. We got to the next stop and I got off, as did the couple. When we got down from the track, instead of going back up to the inbound track, they proceeded towards the parking area and I overheard them saying their car should be there and thank God they will be home shortly. Grrrrr!
That is SO sleazy!! I’d be fuming, too!
Oh, so sorry lillyjo. The only thing that makes me feel better about stuff like that is that I’m a firm believer in karma! What goes around does come around.
No fruit for me, just Hiris. Why? Because I think it’s perfect. Need to go buy a dress – one of my least favorite activities. Blergh.
And it is indeed perfect. Hope you find the perfect dress!
You smell lovely! That one is on my ‘split this one, at least’ list.
I’m wearing Hermes Un Jardin Apres la Mousson and I dislike it intensely. Might have to go wash it off soon. It’s even making me sneeze. (Spellcheck wanted to make that “Mouton” which I thought was kind of funny.)
That one didn’t work for me either. Yet, to be fair, many Hermes do not work for me.
That’s too bad. I liked it, but it’s different from the other Jardins, more spice and heft, if that makes sense.
SOTD is Lalique “Fruits du Mouvement”.
Top: black pepper, mandarin and ginger;
Mid: fruity notes, jasmine and plum;
Base: cashmeran, amber and sandalwood.
The amber reads as vanilla, so this one will please those who like that sort of thing, of whom I am not one. :^)
That be me
SOTD Box o Eels, it goes well with my rose black tea
You smell wonderful????
SOTD is Habit Rouge, happily reapplied after the gym at lunch break.
You smell great!
I’m doing a comparison of sorts today. I have Robert Piguet Visa on one side and Gucci Rush on the other. The last time I wore Visa, I thought the drydown kind of reminded me of Rush, so I decided to wear both to see how similar they actually are. So Visa starts out considerably sweeter than Rush, but after a couple of hours they do seem to be converging a bit, though the Visa is still slightly sweeter.
I love doing arm-to-arm comparisons – I learn so much!
Thank you for this post! That explains why I love Visa so much. I adored Gucci Rush back in the day.
My “baby” graduates from grade school today so I’m wearing Eau des Merveilles because the last time I wore it, she leaned in and told me “You smell GOOD!” Love that kid- she’s the one family member that will regularly compliment me when I’m smelling good.????
Spent the morning out on the water in the canoe, and it was glorious. There was a guy in another canoe playing the ukulele.
Congrats to baby madtowngirl! My baby graduates high school on Friday, I still can’t believe it.
Thank you! Congrats to you and your baby too! My middle child will be a senior next year so I know exactly what you mean. Those moments are very bittersweet for me. My heart swells with pride but the lump in my throats tells me it’s all gone too fast. The old cliche is true: they grow too fast.
Congrats to both of you. It must be bittersweet.
Thanks! Yes, sooo bittersweet, but I made it thru with dry eyes!
Congrats! And envious of your canoeing – wish I had been doing that this morning. SoCal has plenty of benefits, but lakes and such are not one of them. Where are you?
Thanks! I’m in Madison, so we are literally surrounded by lakes, as the city sits on an isthmus. I love canoeing and kayaking and find it almost meditative when there is no wind like it was this morning.
Awww, congrats on the milestone. She has a great perfume mentor so she knows what smells good. ????
Thanks! She’s got a good nose, that’s for sure. The other one that she commented on recently was Dame Earth Mother, which was love at first sniff for me.
Congrats to you both!
I put on Etro Rajasthan about two hours ago, before my podiatry appointment. I can’t smell it anymore. I wonder if it all went away when my stress levels skyrocketed upon learning that I will almost certainly have to undergo surgery.
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that! I hope your stress has decreased a little since you’ve had some time to process the news.
I’m just trying to remind myself that my workplace probably can’t fire me for taking a few weeks off for surgery, right? That’s something. And I have insurance. That’s another.
They probably won’t hassle you as long as you provide a note from your doc. Especially if you’re only out for a few days. The note does not need to be specific to your health issue..just that you need the time.
So sorry to hear that. No, you should be covered under FMLA for time off for a surgery.
Sorry. I hope everything goes fine.
Ack! Surgery! Sorry to hear this but hope it’s a quick and painless process.
Ugh. Sorry to hear about needing surgery. That is stressful.
Yuk. Too bad about the impending surgery news.
Yikes. You may not get paid for those days if you haven’t accrued the time. CA does have a pretty strict employee-friendly pay / pay-related rules.
I’m not the best for fruity, but today am in my Unknown Pleasures sample, which smells exactly like lemon curd and tea (so totally counts), and yesterday Orange Star…
Both good for the sun, too.
And you smell great! Love that one.
Wearing a bit of Cafe Rose today…
Have an interview this afternoon and I’m feeling nervous. Going to go for a good, long walk and find my inner peace.
Very good luck to you!
Good luck! If you notice someone sniffing you happily on your walk, it mighht be me.
Knock em dead!
Best of luck!
Good luck on the interview!
You smell great, hope all goes well!
SOTD is Peche Cardinal by MDCI. There’s a whole load of friut in this scent but the main notes are peach, tuberose and a little milky coconut. Perfect for this week’s theme.
It is! You smell good!
SOTD = Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar
Frooty woody floral with musky Guerlainade. Frooty. because it is not fruity from a fruit that I can discern but likely from a combination of orange blossom, almonds and tangerine. That combo smells like peach to me. Fragrantica does not list tangerine but Monsieur Guerlain does. This is versatile, easy to wear and office-friendly.
Oh, that frooty combination sounds delicious. I must get out my decant of MPN today.
You must! I’m in delicious vanilla drydown.
IMO, very lovely for a frooty scent! You smell great!
Thank you. It is also very easy to solit as it comes in a bee bottle.
Interesting, I don’t get froot from that one, just powdery almond. Nuit d’Amour is my frooty Guerlain.
Oooh, I don’t think I have ever smelled Nuit d’Amour!
I’m wearing DSH Brandied Fig, a custom perfume I got when I went to Dawn’s workshop in Denver. Although I generally don’t like boozy notes in perfume, somehow this captivated me.
This sounds amazing! When are you meeting up with waterdragon? I am quite jealous.
Love the pineapple ukulele. Thank heavens it is out of stock at my local Nordstrom so I don’t have to battle my conscience. We already have two ukes here at home.
SotD = Infusion d’Iris EdT, day 4
My ardor for this iris remains strong, but scent of the morning might be more accurate. I may switch to another scent later in the day. A mention of Un Jardin sur le Nil on yesterday’s sotd has my nose twitching.
Wednesdays are tough, so I think of Wednesday Adams and try to be bold like her, as when she leveled a crossbow at Pugsley and said, “Don’t be a baby. I know what I’m doing.”
Waft on, fragrant friends, and watch out for Wednesday.
Day 4! Is this a record?
um, yes, 4 days of perfume monogamy, I think it is a record!
In Jour d’Hermes Absolu. Oh, and one comfy-shoe vote for Earthies, although I don’t have any of their sandals…
In Hummingbird, which Fragrantica tells me includes notes of apple, cherry, pear, plum, honey, lilac and much more. I almost like it. I think if the sweet was tempered with smoky wood, that might have worked for me. ????
Ha! I have a sample of that one somewhere in the sample sea…I found it an odd little bird so I just tried it once and put it to the side.
Inspired by Robin yesterday, I’m in Omnia Paraiba. So cheerful Doesn’t really match the gloomy weather, but that is fine by me. I love fruity scents so I have a ton to choose from. Mandarine Basilic, Herba Fresca, Pacifica Jasmine Lime, JM Blackberry & Bay, and CDG Rhubarb, and many others! Think I’ll wear the CDG on Friday – it’s such fun.
It’s incredibly cheerful
Participating today with L’Artisan Premier Figuier! Philosykos may be more elegant, but this is the closes to how fig trees smelled when I was growing up.
The only fig scent I can tolerate and I love it. You smell great!
Thanks, Luna Green!
Is Philosykos more elegant?? I like Philosykos better, but thought it was the other way around, that Philosykos was “blunter” and PF was more elegant.
Difficult to discuss what elegance is, but to me Premier Figuier is rougher than Philosykos in the sense that is more about the fig leaf (which also happens to be rough to touch) and the tree (woody), while Philosykos is more about the sap, milky. Figuier is also, to my nose, denser and possibly sweeter. All that said, I perceive them as two closely related, great fragrances (have a big square bottle of Philosykos and only 15ml of Figuier). Can we even say that Honore des Pres Coco is a distant cousin?
Fruitchiouli today!! Smell like a peach
Ha! And I did not get peach. Whatever I got out of it caused me to rehome it right away!
This made me lol!
Wearing Soivohle Figgy Plum. Thankfully, more plummy than figgy.
You are on a roll with the Soivohles! maybe I will do Honeysuckle Bird tonight as there is a strawberry note in that one.
You started it all, with your mention of Jasmine Summer – it reminded me to go collect my Soivohle minis, and I discovered that a few of them are indeed fruity!
It’s the 30th anniversary of New Zealand going nuclear free today so I’m feeling a bit nostalgic as I can remember all the protest marches, going out into the sea in my kayak to ‘stop’ the US warships, and the joy we felt in standing up to the US , and in asserting our support to Pacific nations ( especially those dealing with French nuclear tests). So, a cool anniversary. Not wearing a perfume just yet. Since becoming sick I have had a constant smell of cigarette smoke in my head. It’s so real I keep looking up to figure out where it’s coming from but I guess it’s related to having the flu ….unless my dead grandfather has moved in with his Capstan non filters.
He just might have!
What a wonderful memory to have! Thank you for what you did.
Is it thirty years already? Crumbs! We were so proud and so brave, and what we’ve become since hurts like a knife! Once were warriors, indeed!
Those were heady days, I remember them. Hope you feel better asap!
I am wearing Beloved smack in the middle of the day. Take that, Wednesday!
Oh, Beloved, I might just wear that tomorrow and add some fruit.
Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey. So pretty
Tried and true. You smell great!
wearing Tauer L’eau today courtesy of a generous NSTer.
how do you like it
Ooh, yes, please report on how it is!
I find it to be delightful. Light and musky, with a bit of a classic feel. Honestly, I don’t get much citrus even though I know it is supposed to represent “the suburbs of Zurich, where Andy Tauer makes his home, it mingles with the springtime bloom of the lemon trees to create a vibrant yet soothing atmosphere that cools the lungs and invigorates the spirit.” I get much more of a light floral muskiness especially with the ambergris and not much lemon or orange. I do get bergamot on the opening.
Sounds great, thanks for the report!
Robin, I hope you will forgive my use of the blog for personal admin. It’s Just this once, I promise.
Mals86, this is for you. For reasons that escape me, I can’t find an email address for you in either of my accounts .
I posted the Wit to you from Richland. It will arrive Saturday(ish). The tracking number is 840-5990-0364-003-0009-60281–01. I wrote you a pretty card from Aotearoa. The picture is a daft, fat kereru eating taraire berries, and I’ve just very usefully found the card in my bag, so sorry, but the Wit is arriving without a word from (witless) me. I do hope you like it: I really don’t. Well, not on me, anyway.
SOTD: La Petite Robe Noire EDP for a big dose of black cherry goodness.
I love that version of LPRN, it is the best one to my nose.
SOTD = sampling Jo Loves White Rose & Lemon Leaves, courtesy of a wonderful NSTer. If rosewater-lemon water ice existed, it would smell exactly like this.
I just found my Nutmeg & Ginger Cologne from Jo Malone, and my 30ml French Linden Blossom.
Your cologne sounds great, enjoy Jalapeno !!
You found the French Linden Blossom just in time for the perfect weather for it… supposed to be roasty for the weekend. Thanks, Bear!
Oh, that sounds great!
Well, I started out the day in Arielle Shoshana, and it made me giggle when I applied it. Wow, passion fruit, grapefruit and orange, so I’m definitely participating in the weekly project!
Then, a dab each of SL Daim Blonde and Gris Clair in the elbow crooks. Like DB much better than GC.
The big news…the vintage Shalimar from the freebiemeet arrived, and it is so lovely. Many thanks to flopper for her generosity. This made me weep, it was just so pretty. I never understood how anyone could cry over a perfume, but now, I get it.
Laughing and weeping over perfume, all in one day…I think that makes it a good day! ❤️
I hope everyone has a wonderful evening.
???? sooo happy you love the vintage Shalimar.
Plus, reeking havoc. You are batting 1000.
“Reeking” havoc. That made me giggle.
It’s becoming quite the trend around here. ????
Today’s SOTD is L’ Artisan’s Mure et Musc layered over the body oil. MeM and Patchouli Patch are my two all-time favorites from L’ Artisan, Ananas Fizz is a very close runner-up.
As today is national chocolate ice cream day, I’ll need to get some Rocky Road and pronto!
I wore Hyacinth & a Mechanic this morning, have now switched to Mona di Orio Oiro for the evening.
I’m in Blackbird by Olympic Orchids for the blackberry note. Yesterday was Un Jardin sur le Toit.
