It's Tuesday, and it's Paul Giamatti's birthday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm doing fruit roll ups in Bvlgari Omnia Paraiba. And yes, I'm smelling awfully cheerful! Tea at the moment is a Satispur Estate Assam.
Reminder: 6/9 will be Fruity Friday! (A repeat from 2014.) Wear something fruity. Doesn't have to be a fruity floral, just something with plenty of fruit.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the London Skyline Teapot by Cecily Vessey ("It makes a stunning centre piece for any tea time gathering. The teapot has Cecily's signature London Skyline wrapped all the way round which includes many of the city's iconic buildings.") holds 900 ml, and runs £35.
Happy Birthday Paul, loved Sideways and his small part in Dowton Abby.
Allure today, inspired by someone yesterday.
I am running out of black tea, and I am also completely out of coffee. (Bear, can you pass me a cup?) Has anyone ordered anything from Cultured Cup? I see they stock MF tea
I have ordered from CC several times.
good to know, thanks Robin
Will do !!!
I’ll put on another pot.
😉
thank you
You smell great.
thanks, this is the parfum from the 90’s..
Giamatti was hilarious in Planet Of The Apes and amazing in John Adams!
He was fantastic in John Adams!
Yes he was a great John Adams
The hubster and I watch Billions, and I can’t decide whether I love or hate the character.
That seems to be PG’s specialty! He’s brilliant with those ambiguous characters!
My husband and I watch it too — one of the few shows we watch together. I hate everybody on the show! And I love the show.
Shay & Blue Blood Oranges today. It might be citrus but it’s still fruit and that’s good enough for me!
Then it’s good enough for us!
Love that teapot! I’m wearing MFK’s A la Rose in every way…shower gel, body cream and the fragrance. Samples of the new body products were sent to me by a wonderful SA at Neiman’s.
Nice — how are the body products?
The body products are very nice and true to the scent.
Good, thanks!
You smell wonderful!!!
Oh, and I drink the same tea every day…Stash’s green chai.
Rouge Bunny Rouge Vespers
A nice combination of lily-of-the-valley and apple. Apple note often smell synthetic to me, but here it works quite well. It makes lily-of-the valley softer and lighter. Longevity and projection are poor, but maybe it’s because my sample is in a dab vial. I think this one may work better when sprayed.
SOTD is Maison Martin Margiela’s Untitled, which I now think I shoud wear more often.
You smell great. It does need more
attention- so very wearable for this season.
SOTD- Escada Limited Edition 1996 Jardin de Soleil
Top notes- sweet raspberry, peach, neroli, gardenia, tuberose
Mid notes- orange blossom, marine notes, saffron, hyacinth
Base notes- oakmoss, sandalwood
And testing Scarlet Larkspur which has cherry, red currant and red wine as notes. It is OK but I prefer Angel’s Trumpet from the Ineke Botanical series
I found Scarlet Larkspur to be just ok too. I wanted to love it because of the red wine note.
:)…yeah, red wine note!!
I like Scarlet Larkspur but I have to really be in the mood for sweet and fruity so I don’t wear it that often.
Wish I still had some of the old summer-edition Escadas. I still have some of the 1999 Loving Bouquet but have no idea what happened to the others.
I think the older Escadas had some heft to them…maybe more dense base notes? I did like Cherries in the Air, however which I think came out three years ago?
That Escada sounds particularly nice to me.
This one would be up your alley with the oakmoss…I am also wondering what type of sandalwood given it was from the 1990s.
I wore many of those LE Escada’s thru the 90’s. So perfect for that stage of my life when I was having babies/chasing young children all around!
I have been collecting the bottles from way back when…I think they were good compositions when they first came out….now it is hit or miss….
Chocolatemarzipan8: I’ve been collecting them too—from a way back! I agree that they started out good but have descended into boring fruity-florals again and again. I think the look of the bottles has improved now that the glass is coloured, instead of just coated.
How many bottles do you have? I have every single year in the 1.7 oz size(1994-2016) except the first one (1993- I only have a mini of that) …this year I was on a no buy but a younger family member bought the 30ml bottle and gave it to me when she finished most of the juice. One day Mr. CM8 is going to buy me a cabinet so that I can display them all!
My favourite was Ibiza Hippie from 2003. It was a fun fruity floral and hey, it was done by Michel Almairac so it can’t be all bad. 🙂
Oh that was a good one! I have so many Escadas that I could probably do a month of fruit if there were juice in all of them.
Chocolate: I have 18 bottles and 4 minis. I even have the two men’s! Wish I could see yours on Facebook…
Celestia
http://australianperfumejunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/escada-bottle-collection.jpg
they look like this 🙂
( I don’t have facebook or instagram so this will have to do-LOL!)
Chocolate: I died and went to perfume heaven. Congratulations on your fabulous collection and thank you so much for posting the link! I got a “Billy” from IKEA to display mine.
Happy Tuesday Everyone! My SOTD is the fruitiest, fruit perfume ever made. I am wearing Byredo’s “Pulp”. I drained the rest of my bottle this morning and was so sad to do so. This is such a great summer / spring fragrance. I was saving the last little bit for a special occasion; but there’s no time like the present. I probably should have saved this for Friday, but oh well. I smell divine (if I must say so myself). Have a great day, everyone! 🙂
Congrats on the empty bottle! A fabulous accomplishment ????
Oh, gee! It wasn’t hard at all. It takes me no time to finish FB. That’s one of my problems.
I am jealous of your heavy hand. I wish I could do the same. It takes me forever to finish a FB.
You finished a whole bottle of Pulp? You’re my hero!
Lol. For me, it was easy. I have a very heavy hand.
I’m so glad that you are feeling cheerful and Omnia Paraiba is great for that. Even reading the name makes me giggle because of your funny review.
I’m feeling rather solemn in L’énlèvement au sérail by Parfums MDCI. A glorious peachy chypre.
Slept badly and started my day with a very unpleasant phone call about money. Not great for getting me going. On top of that I have to take an exam this evening, which I’m dreading. Ok, end of complaints and onto how utterly gorgeous my SOTD is. Discontinued, but I managed to get my hands on a bottle a couple of years ago. The best of the MDCI’s that I’ve tried, imho.
You smell fabulous. I was lucky enough to split a bottle of L’Enlèvement au Sérail several years ago, lovely scent – such a shame it is discontinued du to the evil IFRA.
I hope your exam goes better than expected and the money issue is resolved quickly. Money stress ruins my sleep for sure.
Thanks! It was more about asking for a reasonable wage for quite a specialised job and being answered that it was too much, knowing that the going rate for that particular job is a lot higher than what I asked. I have refused to do it for what they were offering me. A pity, it was a great place during my internship there, but they seem to not wish to pay a fair wage. Thankfully it’s not my main income, so I can go on “investing” in perfume 🙂
I’ve just had a semi-similar issue in that I was expected to complete several hours of testing prior to a contract even being offered and without pay for said hours. Thankfully, I have other options and gracefully declined their non-offer offer.
As did I. It was interesting because she wasn’t expecting this at all. I’m too old to be doing everything for free. Are you enjoying your current lifestyle?
This is in response to your question above. Yes, I am enjoying it, although I don’t think it’s as adventurous as people imagine. I have 2 weeks left with my current contract and I’ve got seriously itchy feet. I don’t think too many would care for this lifestyle because the certainty of the next contract is quite fluid and undefined, especially in today’s healthcare climate. I tend to like change and the unknown is exciting to me, but most people prefer routine and security, so I’m a bit of an anomaly. I’m 52, was a very resposible and dependable child and adult for most of my life, but now have decided that I don’t want to waste anymore time, because there is no such thing as “certainty” in life. ✌????
Aha… How insulting. Their loss!
Oh boo! And good for you.
Sounds beautiful! I’m sad when I read SOTDs that sound glorious but are d/c…
I know that feeling! Still this might not be to your liking at all.
Ooh, I love L’énlèvement au sérail and have a mini bottle of it (gets up to get it out for tomorrow). Sorry about your not being offered what you deserve for that specialized job but glad your perfume collection won’t be affected!
It’s a stunner! And some classify it as a fruity chypre, so it fits with this week’s theme!
I felt very offended, but it’s not the end of the world.
Good luck on the exam, and sleep well tonight!
Thanks, I’m sure I’ll be ok, I used to be so cool about exams in my twenties, but I no longer am.
I’m sneaking in here early as a “happy time” before our tech guys show up to fix a network systems catastrophe that happened at work yesterday afternoon. Joy of joys. SOTD (inspired by Bear yesterday) is No 5 Eau Premiere.
You smell wonderful!
Premiere is soooooo good!!! 🙂
Hope it all gets fixed!
Lovely teapot, not as great as the one in the shape of a record player from some weeks ago!
SOTD is (regretfully) Cool Water, which I bought for the sake of research years ago and had forgotten how little I like it. Cannot understand the success, surely has seen better times, smellwise?
I sold perfume for a bit in the 90’s. We could barely keep Cool Water in stock. I was never able to understand its appeal. Most people said they liked it because it was “fresh and clean” and not perfumie.
When perfume shopping with a friend the other day, we were talking about our differences in perfume taste. She likes fresh, clean scents and I boldly proclaimed, “oh no, I don’t like to smell clean!” before I realized how that came across ha! She died laughing knowing what I meant, but anyone who wasn’t privy to our convo would have thought I was crazy.
But does she actually like fresh, clean scents? Sometimes I wonder if that’s what women say because it’s sort of a catch-phrase these days? When in reality, the scents they like and wear may not actually fall into that category. KWIM? *shrugs* just a theory 😉
I think with Cool Waters is that it was so different when it came out…you know , kind of like Angel….or Giorgio or Poison…the perfumes that were oddball or groundbreaking and everyone wanted to buy them as they smelled different…but then there was overkill on the usage and copycats and then we all became sick of them….I had a boyfriend who wore Cool Waters and I loved smelling it on him.
I am wearing the Different Co-. Sel de Vetiver today. I am 7 days from from summer break and anything with sea, sea-salt, sea grasses, however tangental is hopeful. Of course I will spend summer break far from the sea in North Idaho helping out my parents, all the more reason for thoughts of the beach.
Idaho?! Oh, so jealous! How do you like sel de Vetiver?
I like it, somewhat masculine. I do not get the sel/salt part though
Yeah, I have tried a few that are supposed to be salty and not really gotten it either. Maybe I’m expecting too much in the way of brine…
Love Sel de Vetiver.
A summer favorite!
Beaches in Idaho are rivers? lakes? I’m looking forward to trying some Sels once the weather heats up a bit.
I meant I will not be by beaches unless you count Lake Pend Orille or pack River. Mostly I help out with sick parents.
Oh, my bad! I totally misread. Hope you’re able to enjoy the time with your parents. Certainly they appreciate your help, and even more, your company.
I love Sel de vetiver.
I want/need a salty fragrance for summer and there is a good chance I’ll end up with this one. 🙂
Two thumbs up for Teapot Tuesday and kudos to Robin for finding THE PERFECT teapot for today!!
SOTD is SHL Taklamakan, another that will go on my list of “Unattainable Amours.” I think it SO sad that I’m not rolling in dough, born a princess, or queen of a small but very rich island nation! What was the universe thinking?!
I’m wearing an old pair of rolled up boyfriend jeans, a button down (slightly wrinkled) Madras shirt, and my Chacos, which I could wax on about in the most poetic fashion! I love them! They exceeded my expectations, and really, when was the last time one could really say that about a piece of apparel?
I’m doing a semi-Bear by drinking a cup of double strength coffee! Cheers all✌️
Glad to hear the Chacos were a success. How do you find Taklamakan? Anything it’s similar to?
It feels familiar but I’m not sure what it reminds me of…its possible that I sampled it a few years ago. I’m not organized enough to keep a spreadsheet of perfumes I’ve sampled and my thoughts about individual scents. If I were Donatella I’d surely have a full bottle, though.
Deva, if you’d like, please send me an email. I have a bottle that you would enjoy. Beas.beverly at geee mail dot commm.
So glad you like the Chacos!
I don’t like them, I LOVE them! I have a stupid high arch and these offer great support AND they’re adorable- a win/win combo????
It IS sad, isn’t it?
????<—that's me, crying! Lol
I’m strangely elated that you like Taklamakan. I love it and fully intend to buy a bottle if my husband’s car stops needing overpriced little parts to keep running. I mean, it’s only 24 years old…
MikasMinion, can you shoot me an email at taiga101 in the land of yahoolagins? ????
I’m wearing Caligna. I ordered a mini after Alyssa Harad kept raving about it on Twitter. What a nice fresh cologne-style fig.
Caligna is awfully nice especially for summer! I must remember to wear some from my decant this week.
Nice one!
I tried it in department store when I was on holiday in France few weeks ago. It really fitted my carefree vacation mood 🙂
Twins! I’m enjoying this, too.
I’ll have to remember to pull that one out soon.
Hello, NST! Been up to my eyeballs in work for months so have been lying low. SOTD is Amouage Sunshine, so I am in juicy stewed fruit.
Stewed fruit! Yum! Onto the sample list…
Welcome back! Hope the workload dies down soon. I wore Sunshine Man a few times last winter and really enjoyed it.
Non-fruity again today in TF Fleur de Chine. So beautiful.
great choice.
Fleur de Chine is so beautiful…why oh why did they stop making it. 🙁
I feel exactly the same way. Why? Why?!?
Me three! I’d call them eeee-diots, but they invented the fragrance so they must have SOME brains.
I had a harried early morning and forgot to wear anything before heading out the door, so the spray vial stash (a few decants of favorites) in my office desk drawer came to the rescue. SOTD: Nicolai Temps d’Une Fete it is.
Mmmm.
Is this one discontinued? I recently tried Odalisque, which is radiantly beautiful.
You smell gorgeous!
Rain, rain go away! Such a cool soggy spring. Wearing vintage Bois d’Arménie.
How is that Assam Robin? I am always looking for a great assam.
how does this last on you?
I have a bottle of the original release which is very good in the sillage and longevity departments.
You smell great, I love vintage Bois d’Armenie.
????
My husband and I like CTC Assam from Harney and Son’s.
Thanks!
It is pretty good! But I ruin my Assams by adding half & half, among other blatant violations of (tea) decency.
You can buy samples at Upton, and they usually have a pretty good selection of Assams.
I’m a fan of their Zaloni Estate STGFOP. It’s my daily go-to black tea.
Will take a look, thanks!
SotD = Hinoki by CdG. I love it.
Ooh, Japanese temple wood – sounds lovely.
Great pick, love it!
Thanks 🙂
My husband loves it as well…for himself hahaha.
I think he wears it more than me now.
When I sampled it for first time a while ago he had this spontantaneous reaction: “this smells fantastic!!!”
Winter is back… (sigh). Wearing Calvin Klein Euphoria. I woke up in the middle of the night and for an unknown reason it smelled of Euphoria very strongly. This morning I could not take it out of my mind. Since I had not worn it in a long time, I sprayed few times and I am enjoying it. Plus, persimmon and pomegranate are listed as notes. 3 cups of coffee so far. I arrived at work at 5am. Long day that hopes it is over sooooon 🙂
I love Euphoria on dark, cold days!
Winter, come hither!! It’s HOT here????
Sshhhh….don’t tempt it!:)
🙂
Sending it your way 😀
It’s late spring/early summer here, and I find myself looking forward to fall because it’s already too hot and humid for the perfumes I really love.
I’m wearing Un Jardin sur le Nil which I received from a generous NSTer. I would not have guessed that I had many scents with a fruity note, but I went on Fragrantica and made a list and I have more perfumes than days of the week.
And on another matter, I had to take my mom to emergency yesterday because she was experiencing back spasms. It is painful, but not serious. The exciting thing was that the doctor we saw was named Dr. Soivohle. When he introduced himself I said, “Oh, hello – like the perfume company!” He looked at me like I had 2 heads and said, “Uh, no, I’m a doctor.” I resisted the urge to either laugh uncontrollably or launch into a lengthy explanation and we just went on with the matter at hand.
Ha, funny! Well, not your mom’s back issues of course! Hope she is feeling better.
Hilarious!
LOL. LOL. I hope your mom is feeling better.
HA! Hope your mom’s well. How is that name pronounced, anyway?
I would like to know that as well for I am always misspelling it!
HellO, NST. Yesterday was perfect, PERFECT, and we thought the Sound so beautiful that we rather respgretted all the changes wrought to it by human activity. Sigh. However, it is ever thus…now we!re gearing up to leave Seattle to drive to Kennewick so that we can see Mt Rainier et al on the way. SOTD is Chanel Eau de Cologne, fresh, crisp and enlivening. I’m not wearing a white linen shirt and pinstriped trousers, but I feel I should be to live up to this tightly-structured elegant perfume. Ah well. Even Chanel has to slum some days.
I’m slightly nervous about today’s trip. I always worry when we drive on t’other side of the road after a long gap in doing so. Be well all.
Have a wonderful time and enjoy the day!!!
Concerning driving on the other side of the road, we did for the first time last year in Ireland. I say “we”, but mainly my other half did. He rocked it though- I was scared to death!
What’s the draw in Kennewick? I guess there might be some winery stops on the way? Long drive – be safe!
What’s the draw in Kennewick? It’s not Pasco. 🙂 I kid, Pasco-ites, I kid. I do find it hard to imagine waterdragon is a huge fan of hydroplane racing, but I wouldn’t think Hanford would be interest either, so I’ll go with wineries. 😉 Whatever you’re doing there, waterdragon, I hope you enjoy! I was home (Seattle) a few weeks ago and the weather was gorgeous. If you get to see Mt. Rainier, consider yourself fortunate; it is not always “out” as we say.
Not Kennewick, as it turns out, but rather, Richland, for one night on our way to Columbia Gorge. We wanted to go over Chinook (spelling?)Pass, but were slightly disconcerted to find it closed. Never mind: we found much of beauty and interest in an alternative route. Washington is spectacularly lovely.
A tragic loss in our family: I seem to made a hole in the steel like Ng of our Thermos. I cannot tell you how dreadful it was to go without a cup of tea for hours and hours and hours. That must be the only bit of British heritage I have…we’re off to find a place called Wal’s Mart (I think) to buy a a replacement. I am on a warning not to store the breadknife in the new one!
You’re cracking me up, Waterdragon! Walmart (world’s largest retailer–oooh, aaaahhh) is based in Bentonville, Arkansas, where I live.
LOL @aparatchick. I have to admit, I was wondering if perhaps Waterdragon or Mr. Waterdragon was a nuclear physicist and I’d missed that info in a post somewhere 😉
Ahh, Mr. G and I were just up there on Whidbey Island a week or so ago, scouting places for retirement. It is a beautiful corner of the world, isn’t it.
I LOVE Whidbey Island. It’s the prettiest and most diverse island up here, to my mind. And super easy to get to. I got married there, actually.
No kidding! That would be a fabulous place for a wedding. Which part of the island was your wedding venue at? We’re very partial to Coupeville, but Langley is adorable too.
Coupeville! All the little towns there are lovely, but I’m partial to Coupeville, I have to say.
SOTD is Atelier Cologne Bois Blonds. Fragrantica lists no fruit notes, but there is a definite orangey/lemony/bergamot-ey thing going on in the opening of this fragrance, so I’m counting it as a fruit.
I’m also participating in the project with my tea, which is an apricot-osmanthus black tea to which I’ve added a little bit of raw honey from the bees my parents used to keep. Mmm.
Apricot/osmanthus black tea is sooooo good! 🙂
Love Bois Blonds! You smell great!
Yum, that sounds so lovely. one of my favourite perfumes is Journey woman, osmanthus, apricot and black tea are the main players, along with tobacco. I must try that tea!
Journey woman sounds like a perfect match for my tea. Onto the sample list it goes!
Oh, dear, I now have two lemmings from one thread. Thanks…I think…????
Good morning Y’all!
Enjoying the heck out of Tzora, by Anat Fritz. This is a peppery aromatic done right!
I sure would love to smell this one on my hubs sometime….Maybe I’ll sneak and apply on him! 🙂
I’ve long admired those yarn-covered Anat Fritz bottles. Perfume plus knitting = two obsessions in one. 🙂
Today I’m wearing Rosso Epicureo from new Jacques Fath collection.
This stuff is so potent! Rose, tuberose, orange blossom, jasmine and more. Love it!
That one sounds really good.
AG Songes. Nice on a cool spring day.
I have always wanted a bottle of that but never pulled the trigger
Hi Lovestosmellgood!
I have some I can send you. E mail me at arzeznik in the great land of comcast with a net at the end if you are interested.
emailing you now
You smell really wonderful.
Songs is so beautiful!
Songes is so pretty. It’s one of my favorite anytime spritzes.
Thank you ???? it is a great anytime fragrance I agree ????
Mûre et Musc – which I don’t pull out often but really do love! Wish the mûres part lasted as long as the musc part. I love the community projects – they remind me to switch it up!
This is one of very few fragrances that I have difficulty smelling at all! I get the blackberries for a short time, and no musk at all. Totally noseblind to this musk….Fascinating, these noses of ours! 🙂
Dame Perfumery’s Monsoon today. It opens with a metallic Iris, but quickly settles down to orris root. I smell the aquatic note which I think must come from the water lily. I would describe this as a soft aquatic orris root that wears close to the skin. But not your typical department store offering! Good for the office, health appointments, etc…
Is that a new scent to his line? I have never heard of it, but I unsubscribed to his instagram, so I may have missed it. Sounds good…
Yes, it’s new. Would you like to try it? I’d be thrilled to pass it along:)
My email:
laugsb @ sbcglobal dot net
OMG! Thank you for the offer, it’s much appreciated, but I have more than I deserve already! Seriously, I think you and all the people writing, commenting, reading, and /or contributing in any way to this blog should be running the world! It would be one helluva place. Thank you again for your kind offer ✌????
OHH! I was hoping someone would report on the new one! I find that many of his fragrances are good for office wear.
Hmm, that sounds like it might be along the lines of something I’ve been looking for. A cool, icy iris? The aquatic note is more watery than calone-y?
I will email you:)
Triple strength coffee.
The strangers in this town, build you up just to cut you down,
Stay Woke! !!
They be creepin’…..
On repeat peat peat,
For an exxxtra long workout in anticipation of some afternoon delight!
LOL. 😉
Orphee Maxim’s de Paris, watermelon, oakmoss, vetiver, musk.
More triple strength coffee. 😉
Carpe Diem. Peace.
“Sky rockets in flight” Rock on, Bear!
Triple strength coffee on ice, my friend!
SOTD is Lubin Grisette which I seem to reach for on days when I’m wearing pink.
I have a sample of Grisette and LOVE it! You smell great!
SOTD: Myrrh & Tonka.. needed something cozy on this chilly June day!
enjoy the chill, forecast after Saturday looks hot hot hot
did you see the limited edition bottle of that one? I like it 🙂
No! I’m all set right now as this is a dabber for me and not a spray and will last a long time.
But the words “limited edition” always make me happy.
you smell cozy.
Oh, I also wanted to say to those who were talking about wanting to try by Killian’s Black Phantom that I tried my manufacturer’s sample last night. My first reaction was”no, don’t think so”, but a few minutes later I had completely changed my mind and the dry down was wonderful. I think it would be better in cold weather and I’d like it to smell it on a man, but it was definitely good, and there are only a few by Killian’s that I really appreciate.
Yes, yes but here is the important question:
Is this a perfume that Jack Sparrow would wear???
It smells a little too smooth for Jack Sparrow, IMHO.
Ah! So there is that!
I always thought that Captain Jack, if you were ever to wrestle him down and give him a proper scrubbing, would like something like a good Orange water or bay rum!
Aveda Vanilla Absolute oil. For some reason, I’ve been gravitating towards vanilla, only vanilla, and the most straightforward possible vanillas recently. This one’s pretty good, too… a little sweet, but not to sweet, and not intrusive. Just what my nose wanted today.
you are an NSTer after my own heart.
I love vanilla
Ditto this!
Vanilla, you’re speaking my language. I bet you smell great!
I love that oil, although would only wear it in the fall. But this smells lovely anytime- and you smell lovely, like a cosy hug.
Another cold, rainy day so I’m enjoying the plummy Umé edp by Keiko Mecheri. For some reason I tend to forget about this one…
Thanks for the reminder! That’s one I have and used to wear a lot, but have forgotten in my perfume cupboard. I’ll get it out later today.
I love this one. you smell great.
SOTD is “L’Eau de Circé” by Parfumerie Générale.
Notes are rose, jasmine, osmanthus, orchid, ylang-ylang, white peach leaf, tangerine, patchouli, woody notes and amber.
The peach-and-flowers scent is perfectly fine, but not really my thing. Fragrantica reviewers compare this one to Gucci Rush – I can’t comment, but I think there are some Rush fans out there?
PG scents are easy to get as samples. I got one of the ‘origami packs’ featuring Parfumerie Générale, Pierre Guillaume Collection Croisière plus Huitième Art set, and that is €89 for 116ml (58 scents), which at the time seemed a fair price to me for niche perfumes. A lot of his stuff hasn’t worked on my scent-eating skin though, so another time I would try a few out first before investing in the collection.
To non-perfume matters: I am in London as TOMK and I have seen our accountant re company annual accounts. Big Corporation Tax bill looms for 01-July, on top of Quarterly VAT bill for 10-July. We might be on bread-and-dripping sandwiches before the month is out. :^D
TOMK is heading back up to Birmingham now and I am staying overnight with a friend ahead of a conference tomorrow. Wot Larx.
The name L’Eau de Circé is intriguing- but if was really supposed to be after Circe, would she really be peaches & flowers? Or the lovely rich herbs of the Med, combined with oils and resins?
Well, I am totally overthinking this, but I think if I were a sorceress going about my business with obviously deep and dark stuff like oils and resins, I would really only ensnare the thickest of heroes. Whereas a light, cheerful, womanly but innocent and somewhat disinterested facade would put a lot of tired sailors at their ease. (Disclaimer: my personal experience of bewitching women or, sadly, of tired sailors is, umm, not statistically significant).
ha! Given the state of the things generally, I think a daily “Wot larx!” is in order. Or perhaps a wot larx t-shirt? 😉
Now *there’s* an idea! :^)
It rained all day yesterday and now we are expecting some gloriously sunny/cool days! Must go mow before the grass gets totally out of hand.
Wearing Esprit d’Oscar, probably my favorite of the L’Heure Bleue-inspired scents (including L’Heure Bleue, heathen that I am).
I’ve been meaning to pull the trigger and buy that one, as its quite a bargain on eBay- would u say it’s a safe (ish) blind buy?
We have similar tastes I think, so I may just go for it!
Not mals, but I’d say it’s a safe blind buy if you’re a fan of the original Oscar de la Renta (or the current Oscar.) If you’re in the US, I’d be happy to send you some. Click on my SN.
Mmm. Love Esprit d’Oscar.
Day 2 of The Crud but took a sick day today. Can’t smell as well today but am catching faint fruity, tangy whiffs of the Pacifica Persian Rose I just applied.
Oh yuck. I had to do the same two weeks ago so it is definitely going around.
Feel better soon!
Thank you! I have so much sick time to use. I used to feel guilty about calling in (more likely, they got annoyed when you called out). But I actually feel more guilty about going in sick, more for other’s sake. So, progress!
It’s been a while since I tried the perfume, but I own and love the Persian Rose candle (so does kitty#1). I hope you get better soon!
Thanks! It would make a good candle. It probably smells like the perfume-I have the solid, which is a candle without the wick, right? And cute your kitty likes it. I’m always trying to guage whether any of my candles repel my cats.
Rest, green juice and stretching! Get better soon!
Thanks! Got the rest, took the stretching advice, but subbed out the green juice for tart cherry flavored kombucha.
Sorry you’re feeling rotten! Hoping it passes quickly and your scent receptors wake up and get back on the job!
Thanks! They’re actually working on and off but hoping they start working full time.
Oh no! Sending good vibes for a quick recovery. You smell lovely. Persian Rose and French Lilac are my favorites from Pacifica.
Thank you! Those two scents are nice layered. I do that when I go to Whole Foods.
I’m sorry you’re feeling under the weather. Taking a day off to rest is probably the wise choice. Feel better soon!
Thank you!
Sorry to hear that it’s another icky day, but I’m glad to hear that you took a day to take care of yourself. And your SOTD is a favorite rose scent of mine.
Thanks Jalapeno! I’m actually feeling a lot better already. I think this is going to be short-lived, hopefully. It is a nice rose. I keep the solid in my work bag pocket and tend to forget I have it.
JM Blackberry and Bay. CM8 mentioned it yesterday and I remembered that I had a sample. When I first sprayed the bay leaf was so prominent I thought, oh no. But it settled down quickly and now a few hours later I keep getting whiffs of something soft and lovely and realize it is me! I love it when that happens!
I’d gladly take a bottle of this if it fell in my lap.
That’s a good one! I went through lots of samples and even had a small 9ml gift with purchase but never caved in to a full bottle.
It really is! I just might have to look for one of those cute 9 ml bottles.
I used to always check retailmenot for coupon codes of 9ml with purchase. I would then buy a soap and get a 9ml perfume for free…you can’t choose the 9ml but every once in a while they will offer one that you happen to want…I think I got around 7 or 8 of those bottles this way…..
I will check that out!
My recollection is the same – more bay than blackberry. Do you get a prominent blackberry from it?
I get lots of blackberry but YMMV
I love Blackberry & Bay. It was one of the few bottles I drained to the last drop (doesn’t happen often) and I loved it because for me, it was the ultimate ‘happy scent’. I think I need another bottle 😀
I’m in Adam Levine for Men (thank you, hajusuuri)- no shame in my game! I actually love the opening in particular. Oranges and guava and passionfruit. the dry down is nice, but the opening is really wonderful to me. I prefer the his men’s over the women’s, though the women’s really isn’t bad either! Yay, Adam. 🙂
Oooh, guava AND passionfruit?! That sounds tempting!
I tried that in a store, as a joke- BUT joke was on me! It’s pretty darn good!
Not going to win any awards, but it’s a bargain for sure and so enjoyable!
Agreed – both of the Levine fragrances are surprisingly good. I credit the perfumer, Yann Vasnier, with elevating these two celebuscents to a higher-than-normal level. Vasnier did the scents for Divine, a house that flies a bit under the radar, but which makes really beautiful perfumes.
That sounds delightful! I’ve only tried the women’s which was decent as well.
Happy Tuesday, guys!
1) Housefront news: In addition to replacing the vertical blinds with draperies and doing some touch up painting, I half tamed the back garden and the front hell strip (just in time for rain) and purchased a new to me couch off craigslist. It’s a lovely cream colored sofa, with down and goose feather cushions around a foam core. Barely 2 years old. It’s quite possibly the most luxurious thing I have in the whole house. I was gonna order a couch, very similar, for $1500 in a different color- but I got this for $450.
2) SOTD: Prada Infusion Oeillet- perfect for a sumemry late spring day!
Such a deal in that couch! I bet it looks fabulous. Out of curiosity, what’s a “front hell strip?” I initially thought “front hall” but then that doesn’t make sense because you’re talking about outdoors, right? This is me, confused!
BTW, you smell great ????
A ‘hellstrip’ is that sad ribbon of lawn or ground between the street and sidewalk OR the side yard in a townhouse. It’s usually scraggly and a place that dogs (and their owners) designate as a bathroom!
Here’s a link which explains more and gives tips on how to improve the area:
https://www.thisoldhouse.com/ideas/add-curb-appeal-hellstrip-garden
The Parkway!! Ding ding ding! The light went on in my brain????
Ah yes! Mine is to the side, so once I tame it (and looks like I am gonna have to be merciless) I am gonna plant lots of lavender and rosemary- along with summer/fall bloom bulbs. I will allow the bulbs to naturalize, and just mulch like crazy. Back garden will be very wild I am afraid this year- I will plant some trellis plants like tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and such, and put herbs in pots and call it good.
People in my neck of the woods call that strip of grass between the street and sidewalk a “tree lawn,” which I had never heard before I moved here.
Where I am we call it a planting strip.
Wow, never heard that term, or planting strip or tree lawn.
And yes- The couch looks- and feels – utterly fab. It’s the thing for sinking down and reading a book or taking a nap.
Congratulations on that great deal!
Thank you! I honestly was gonna go the route of “yay, new furniture!” but the idea of payments just burned me. Plus I am really trying to be frugal(ish) and be creative with that frugality, which meant altering decor sketches somewhat.
I am sewing some cushion covers and will be re-using inserts. I also have a possible lead into a leather chair that I can refinish for $20.
What a bargain! The infusion sounds lovely, still haven’t got around to trying that one, must remedy that soon.
If you can, buy the mini online. It’s a great way to try it.
Nice on the couch! I always think that light colored couches look luxurious. If I weren’t such a spiller, I’d be tempted.
I got a sofa in distressed leather because I knew that between eating, working, watching TV and occasionally sleeping on it, it was going to end up pretty distressed anyway. ;^)
Day off today! Sotd is Gucci Rush. I love this perfume so much. Has anyone tried any of the flankers? I haven’t, just wondered if they were almost as good as the original.
Love Rush! haven’t tried any of the flankers..
heard this song this morning driving to work and thought of you with the work situation and all-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvlTJrNJ5lA
You made me cry! Thanks for that! I love Tom Petty, I try to remember that “even the losers, get lucky some times” 🙂
I love Tom Petty too 🙂
I hope you are enjoying your day off!
Tom Petty’s music makes me happy. 🙂 Thanks for that link.
Another Rush lover here, u smell good!
Thank you!
Yay for a day off! I’m sorry to hear that the job isn’t what you were hoping for, though. I think that you will find your way through your current situation, and into something better soon!
Thank you, Jalapeño, for the encouraging words.
Dries Van Noten. Another dreary foggy day. I woke up this morning thinking it was Friday…it’s going to be a long week.
Yesterday I thought it was Tuesday already. So disappointing.
DvN must be a great antidote to the greys.
You smell great. Bon courage!
Oh, man. I hate when that happens. You do smell fab, though.
That teapot is really cute. I had one similar to it I got at Harrod’s years ago.
SOTD: L’orpheline. I’m in all grey today for the grey, rainy day so an incense frag made sense. Btw, grey is my favorite color so all this isn’t meant to sound dour, but comforting.
tea: a bottle of Ito En green tea with roasted rice.
I need to give that one some skin time next time I go sniffing. Not sure why I keep passing it up, but you always make it sound very appealing.
I am tired of the rain and cold weather. I am wearing vintage YSL Champagne edt, smells out of this world, I have no word for it. I think I can wear this the rest of my life.
Here is my bottle
https://www.instagram.com/p/BU2dNBZAogL/?taken-by=herasukyas
Feel the same about vintage Yvresse, it’s so wonderful, I don’t wear it often, as I don’t have much left, but if it was more readily available/cheaper I’d wear it so much!
That is a true treasure.
Gorgeous photo – and yet another vintage bottle in perfect condition. Where do you shop for your vintage perfumes? I’m lazy and just use ebay, and go for cheap rather than perfect 😉
Oh, and I have a mini Champagne. Y is now the only classic missing from my collection. I’ve always been drawn to the Rive Gauche bottle as it was so different than anything on the shelves when it came out, and still is. It doesn’t really look like a bottle of perfume.
I go to estate sales , this specific bottle was found intact in a cellophane in a garbage (there is this guy who finds stuff in garbage and contacts me when he finds perfume). It was in great condition, smells absolutely perfect, I can’t imagine someone throwing this away.
Wow! You scored with your scourer 🙂
Lucky you! Gorgeous perfume, you smell great.
I’m wearing Keiko Mecheri Passiflora. It smells sour on me. I don’t remember passionfruit smelling this sour. Oh well.
I know I got a sample of that at some point, and while I don’t actually remember the specifics (I’m sure the sample’s still laying around somewhere), I *do* recall not thinking it smelled at all like passionfruit
I didn’t care for Passiflora at all. I guess it is the scent of the flower and not the fruit. I love passion fruit, so was disappointed as well.
I’m out of sink with community project, and it has been raining heavily all day, and like Jenkr incense seemed to be called for, so I’m wearing Epic Woman.
The sun has finally broken through, and I’ve just planted a small honeysuckle near the patio area, and a clematis vitacella.
The garden really needed that rain, and I’d just finished lots of planting in my cottage garden, lots of astrantias, cornflowers and some Iris too. I’m really happy that my planting coincided with a big rainfall!
Will wear Quel Amour! Tomorrow to start my fruity week.
ooooh, clematis and honeysuckle are so beautiful.
Comme des Garçons re-edition of Tar!
Is only the bottle different, or have they “re-edited” the fragrance as well?
I’ve never known the original version, so I can’t say.
Yay!
Honore des Pres Love Coco.
By a loose definition of coconut, I am participating in the project.
We are loose with the rules, no worries. And you smell great.
Misia EDT today…
Roses, violets and iris…oh my!
Misia! You smell lovely.
Paul is such an interesting actor. I love him in Billions!!
SOTD = Irisor by Sultan Pasha. Feels a bit later than some of his other attars, but impressive nevertheless
Billions is most fun, isn’t it?
Started the day in Rahele because I had an appointment. Osmanthus smells like apricots, right? I’m about to warm things up with Mitsouko because it’s another rainy, cold day.
yes, osmanthus smells like apricots, leather/suede…I forgot that I have a sample of Rahele in my sea of samples…thanks for reminding me!
Rahele is just so pretty. I hope you enjoy the sample!
PSA: House of Matriarch is running a flash sale on some of their fragrances – 40% off. Code SUMMERSUN
Enjoy
Which ones do you recommend?
Oh this is very important information. Thanks for the PSA!
Rose Kazimi is great and never goes on sale. I liked Woo,Orca, Coco Blanc (I bought a sample set a while back and all of them are amazing!!). And a fact that you can get a 15ml is an added bonus
It’s cold and grey out and I am wearing SDV today.
Outside of citrus and fig notes, I don’t love a lot of fruity perfumes unless they are absolutely Over The Top. Wearing the OTT Bombay Bling this morning for a day of yard work (it never seems to end). When I lived in California during the drought years everything grew so slowly–here in the PNW the grass can grow a half-inch in a day!
Bamboo! Seriously, how can things grow like that? It seems like it would be contrary to the laws of physics..
Bombay Bling is fun! You smell fab.
I’ve always thought a grassless yard is the best solution 😉
SOTD Eau des Merveilles Bleu. My new summer staple.
Yay for Eau des Merveilles Bleu! You smell great.
Going on my fourth day commando, because I’ve come down with a summer cold and can’t smell a thing. I hope it’s cleared up enough for me to put on something fruity and fun for Friday!
Feel better soon!
Cold twins! Hope you feel better soon. I can smell intermittently but the worst to me is not being able to taste.
Ugh, everybody get better!
Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone. I hope anyone else not feeling so hot recovers quickly too!
When did Serge Lutens bell jars leap to $300 a pop. Just thought I would check the US site! Good heavens! Never!
They’ve always been $300 in the US afaik. In France they are around 180€.
Shop France is a great option. She has a shop on ebay and a website, too, I think.
Her latest newsletter shows the bell jars at $242. Suzan is a pleasure to work with.
Yes she is!
I put on En Passant this morning, lovely stuff, and I underlaid it with a generous roller ball roll of French Lilac, and so it has not totally passed, and I am still getting gentle little wafts of lilac….delightful.
I want the Oriza Orange blossom bottle, and I want the Jo Malone Orange Blossom bottle.
So many wants. 🙂
But meanwhile, you smell delightful!
Didn’t realize the theme and had I looked here, I would have joined you in Paraiba! There is always tomorrow. I am on theme though, wearing Philosophy Falling in Love – sweet sweet blackberries! June gloom is in full effect here in San Diego – it isn’t always sunny and 70 here (just most of the time)!
I am in love with June gloom this year (so far). After the rain this winter the yellow wildflowers are finally back, and the jacarandas are vividly blooming overtime. The colors feel electric against the grey skies.
The jacarandas are amazing this year – they’re always lovely, but do seem extra pretty this year! And while I love the sun, it is nice to have some gloomy weather to mix it up.
I miss the jacarandas, so beautiful.
OOoooh I love jacarandas! *desert bloom envy*
A little dab of Vintage Joy!
Joy makes me happy! 🙂
Perfect, always.
SotD = Infusion d’Iris EdT, day 3
Love that city skyline teapot. As a reformed former teapot collector I look forward to Teapot Tuesday on NST.
It’s time for summer reading, (sorry to jump the gun on the summer reading poll!) but I have to share. I just started reading “My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry” by Fredrik Backman. I’m only 15 pages in and am totally in love with this story.
A month ago I watched the movie “A Man Called Ove,” based on the book by the same author, and was absolutely torn to pieces. Had a marvelously cathartic full-on-ugly-cry at the end. Haven’t done that in response to a movie since Forrest Gump.
Have a terrific Tuesday, and remember, perfume is our superpower, beautifying the world one spritz at a time.
“Perfume is my superpower” is going to go on my mental t-shirt!
Joining you in (mentally) wearing that t-shirt today. 🙂
I was thinking about making “Reek On” t-shirts. (Emphasis on the “thinking” part)
or “Keep Calm and Reek On” 🙂
Ooh, writing down both book and movie. Have you seen ‘Lion’? I did the same thing at the end of that movie, I would highly, highly recommend it.
Oh, yes, Lion is on my must-watch-list. For tear-inducing movies I have to wait for the right day to watch. It’s a bit like waiting for the right day to wear a certain perfume. 😉
I know what you mean. Please report back when you do!
“Reformed former teapot collector” had me laughing! ????
Yah, I had to let go of that habit. I gave away all but two teapots – kept just one plain and one fancy. 🙂
I’m in Caligna today, from a sample thanks to Elisa P.! This has a combination of unexpected notes, but it works so well. Clary sage and fig at the opening, and then it blends into soft woods later on.
I put a spritz of Premier Figuier on my knuckle to compare, and Caligna is much softer. This would be lovely for summer!
Glad you like it! I wore some last night when my cold symptoms wrre particularly active and it felt soothing and therapeutic.
SOTD = Hermes Galop d’Hermes
I smell fruity! FWIW, Indon’t smell leather at all amd my 4 spritzes from a 7 mL atomizer are long gone. I may need to double that. Doubling itnwill probably be the equivalent of almost 4 sprays from a FB.
I was hoping to catch up today but an unexpected incident sucked up half my morning and the follow-up to it one more hour today and TBD in the next few weeks.
I loooooove Galop d’Hermes and strongly believe that there’s no such thing as over-applying it 😀
Agreed. 8 sprays next time!
I love Galop as well, and I think the Hermes leathers might be my favorite of their offerings. I *think* I read somewhere recently that the Hermes leather perfumes are based on the leathers used for gloves and handbags. At any rate, that’s what they smell like to me, which is quite different from, for instance, the aroma of a pair of leather boots or jacket. (No birch tar et al.)
And that’s my long, wordy way of saying I get a good dose of leather from Galop, but it’s leather Hermes-style 🙂
It’s also one that (even heavily applied) will sometimes disappear within a couple of hours, and other times last all day long on me. I’m not sure why that is.
I probably need to ne somewhat cooped up on a non-rainy day to get the leather!
H, is it true that you’ll definitely be in Vancouver mid-July? We will have to have a sniffapalooza. Oh right, SOTD is 4160’s “Who Knew?”
Hey AnnieA. I will be there a few days before leaving on the cruise to Alaska. It would be a highlight to meet up with the Vancouver perfumistas!
Super late to comment but Snap! Luuurve Galop and I do get leather when I wear it but it is raw and unfinished leather – a bit like when they gave us leather strips and scraps to work with in art classes at school and you smelled the torn/cut edges.
In Sublime Balkiss–black currents, violet leaves, and lilacs-what’s not to love?
I wore that a couple of times this winter and quite enjoyed it. Classy fruitchuli is what I got. 😉
That is exactly what it is–a classy fruity floral fruitchouli (but my standard for “classy” may be a little lower than some people’s 🙂 )
I just went to put on the last of my sample, but I must have already done that as it’s nowhere to be found 🙁
It’s a nice one, isn’t it. I dither about getting a bottle. Have you tried Une Nuit Magnetique? Blueberries, which sounds awful, but really works for me.
I’ve been dithering too. Clarissa, I think it was, gave me such a generous decant a while back I am still going through it. Blueberries? I am totally intrigued! Must try that one. I like berries. Would never have thought so when I started this perfume adventure, but generally I enjoy the scent of berries in perfume, unless it is very synthetic (ie that fake-o strawberry scent).
Wow, I really did not correctly guess who Paul Giamatti is. Drenched in Rose Anonyme today! I smelled so lovely during my CDSEM training this morning. I wonder if anyone around me could smell me through my bunny suit.
I think of him as the son of A. Bartlet Giamatti, former president of Yale and commissioner of Major League Baseball.
Oh wow! What an interesting man!
I went with Cacharel Amor Amor today.
Prada Infusion d’Iris!
hi twin!
(**waves**)
I’m sue you smelled lovely but I am 100% anosmic to that one. Freaky ti spay it and get nothing at all.
Cold and rainy here. Kiste last night and testing Violet Moss today. Mezzo for me I think.
Love the teapot, Robin. Can’t stand Paul Giamotti — as an actor, of course; me might well be a lovely guy!
Giamatti!
If you like one out of the two that’s enough 😉
So I tried Escentric Molecule 04, which is Javanol, and… I can’t smell it. I’m vaguely aware of something just outside of my olfactory peripheral vision, but it’s just a vague aura.
I’m thinking that it might be overloading my receptors, so I’ll try spraying it on paper and leaving it in another room to see if I can smell a trace of it.
I don’t think I can smell any of the Molecules, and I find it strangely maddening to know that something exists that I am physically incapable of perceiving :-/
I hope you end up having better luck smelling it than I did!
I find 01, which is Iso E Super, vaguely sandalwoody and not easy to smell. I can smell 03, Vetiveryl, easily and recognize it as the main ingredient of the more recent vetivers. I wish they would do Animalis and Mystikal. 🙂
HB, Paul! Sideways is one of my absolute favorite movies, funny but a little bit sad at the same time.
SOTD is ELDO – You or Someone Like You. I bought this blind (I know!!! I relapsed after many many years..) ehm.
Can’t blame you for buying that one un-sniffed. How is it?
Good afternoon, I’m testing (and loving) L’heure Bleue and have a question for you knowledgeable folks. There is a prominent note that I can only describe as “used bookstore”. It’s wonderfully intriguing…what is it? And thank you!
I might kind of know this one! The used book smell is apparently the smell of lignin breaking down, which is closely related to vanillin. Maybe that’s it?
You smell wonderful.
Getting pretty close to reeking havoc here. Started the day in No 5 edt, then sprayed a bit of Nicolai Week-End (which smelled like black pepper) and dabbed some Musc Monoi from the same house (I like the monoi but not the other bits – something sharp in there that puts me off it.)
Wanted to smell Sublime Balkiss, but it turns out I have none. So instead I smothered a bit of Tauer Orange Star (fruit points?) which I really disliked the first time I wore it. Disklike it less now but do not love (maybe someday I’ll come around to the Tauerade, but today’s not it.) Then for some reason, I sprayed the insides of both arms with Dame Soliflore Orange Flower. Smells like mock orange (I think?) and is actually quite pretty. Makes a nice summer floral, if that’s what one is looking for.
reek on, kpaint!!! ( and thanks for the info on the Dame)
Wow, there is some seriously florid prose on the new scent announcements for today! I am really liking the teapot of the day, though.
SOTD = inspired by Austenfan’s scent yesterday, I am trying my sample of Tauer’s Le Maroc Pour Elle. Sigh. Another one for the “Love It” list, but it is much closer to skin than I had anticipated. It might be a 4-seasons scent for me… will try it again when summer decides to show up. And CM8 gets an enabler’s pin! I checked up on the Soivohle website last night, and discovered that one of my faves is being discontinued. So I grabbed a 10 mL bottle of Purple Love Smoke while I could.
Oh boy! This might be my first enabler pin-LOL!
Hehe! 😀
Really!? Maroc pour Elle projects hugely on me, I’m always afraid I’m going to scare away anyone within a 10-foot perimeter. I might wear it more often if it weren’t so blg. I generally wear 4-5 spritzes. How many did you put on?
I spritzed 1 or 2 times from my sample vial. I’m going to chalk up what happened with me to skin chemistry, though, since I also used that same amount with my other Tauer samples. And they seemed to last longer and project more than Le Maroc pour Elle did.
Although it occurs to me that maybe we also have different formulations. My sample is very recent… how old is your perfume?
Mine is older–2010, maybe. It could be that Mr. Tauer toned it down a bit. If you would like to try mine, send me an email at my username at a oh ell dotty com.
I’m wearing Comme des Garcons Vettiveru, very refreshing. Haven’t worn it since last summer and it’s nice to come back to it.
Wearing Prescriptives Calyx. It’s still as great as I remember it back in the day.
You smelled fantastic!!!!!!!
Thank you! So glad that I still have this gem. 🙂
Retro in Ave Luxe Casaque, on me a powdery LOTV with green tinges of I don’t know what – very lovely. Thank you to the loverly NSTer who sent me this sample early on in my time here. I treasure this particular one. 🙂
