Thursday scent of the day 6/1

Posted by Robin on 1 June 2017 237 Comments

Comme des Garçons bunny caps

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Welcome to June. It's also Morgan Freeman's birthday, World Milk Day and Go Barefoot Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Comme des Garçons + Stephen Jones, the first one, by Antoine Maisondieu.

Reminder: 6/2 will be Antoine Friday...wear a fragrance by perfumer Antoine Lie or Antoine Maisondieu, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Comme des Garçons bunny caps in wool and leather are from the Fall 2013 menswear collection. I am pretty sure these were made by Stephen Jones. He did a women's version back in 2007.

    Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit

I am wearing the wonderful Amouge Bracken Woman. I smell like damp ferns and tiny brooks. This is the first Amouage since Dia that has bowled me over.

SOTD is Acqua di Parma Magnolia Nobile by Antoine Maisondieu.
It’s wearable, but it’s another magnolia scent that does not really capture the charm of real magnolia flowers. It has that elegance of AdP Nobile line, and the citrus floral opening is nice. But eventually it just turns pale and… well… not really interesting. At least on me.
(Robin, I checked your review of this scent. It seems that are opinions are similar.)

    Hello June!

My sotd is Besos by Carner Barcelona.
It’s a little spicy and quite powdery with a nice feeling to it.
On my skin the drydown is similar to how classic Nivea cream smells like.

and now I will need to try this one because the smell of classic thick gooey white Nivea cream takes me back to my childhood (along with the scents of Ponds Dry Skin cream, Vitabath, 4711 and Jean Nate)

        :)
Seriously. Its one of my favourite ‘brands’/discoveries!

Now this guy does everything by himself (filling the vials), so it might take a few weeks before your order arrives. Oh and the sample sets sell like hot cakes.

I am not affiliated at all by the way, but just like at least 1000 other perfume lovers (thats how big his facebook group is) a bit of a fan ;)

Yeah. Its uncanny. SP makes me fall for genres I normally dont like or avoid. Also, he keeps getting better.

I mean, vanilla and powdery is scrubber material for me 9 out of 10 times. But here it is so elegant and well done, I could not stop smelling my wrist today. :)

Oh and about Violette Noyée itself. It starts out with a whole orchestra of flowers, led by iris and violets and even something green. On my skin it turns sweeter and warmer after 4-5 hours (vanilla, resins…).

Longevity 8-10 hours (and I can still detect it now, after 14 hours, when I press my nose to my wrist).
            Sillage is very modest.

I’m wearing a few dabs of Cuir de Lancôme. So beautiful this one. Don’t think I’ll ever do a FB as a decant lasts a long time on this one.

Good idea because I forgot to do say rabbit rabbit rabbit upon waking up this morning. I “borrowed” a little bunny my nephew got on Easter way back when he was 3 years old (he is now 17) and I ummm still have it. It has poseable arms, legs and head. I considered returning it a few weeks ago but I now have a new use for it so, I am keeping it :-)

This beautiful day called for lots of jasmine: Lush Lust (dupe)flavored hair conditioner which really lingers and ELDO Jasmin et Cigarette.
Yesterday was like xmas as all my bday perfume gifts to self arrived(OJ Champaca travel sprays and Piguet Calypso) plus a generous decant of OJ Tolu from a swap with LizzieB. I wore Tolu out last night to a book launch/reading held in a beautiful church sanctuary. The combo of church smells(old wood and books) and Tolu was so comforting.

Feerie for me. Glad I remembered I had a sample to try. Just two quick spritzes, but I think I need to go heavier.

Trying to get outside…hopefully after a bit of vacuuming. A friend will be cat sitting this weekend as we head out of town to a wedding. The big boy cat heard the closet door open and the hoses and canister coming out….bam! He’s under the bed.

We ended up having a very nice time with the young woman who stayed with us this past week. My husband got to play serious tour guide, which he loves. Thankfully, she was a little slip of a thing so when we realized our air mattress had developed leaks beyond repair, she could fit on the couch. Tossed the air mattress…no plans to replace it at this time.

SOTD so far is Ashoka, which mostly smells like fig to me. Only sprayed once since I may want to change scents later. Had to take my older son to the orthodontist’s because he accidentally lost his upper retainer. He put his retainers in a napkin at a restaurant and left them on the table. The restaurant found the lower one, but not the upper one-go figure. At least I only had to pay for one replacement.

Third day for Puredistance M. Finished the sample! Spritzed TF Orchid Soleil at Sephora this morning. It’s beachy. Bought the new David Sedaris book at BN – “Theft by Finding”. The first book I ever read written by him was “Me Talk Pretty One Day”, and I had no idea who he was, or that the book was a series of essays. I was really baffled as to how this was a “novel”. ???? I figured it out, and was in tears with laughter by the time I finished the book.

      OMG I LOVE David Sedaris

I was reading Me Talk Pretty One Day on the train on the way home February in the early 2000s. It was hysterically funny but since there were people around me, I couldn’t laugh out loud but my body couldn’t stop shaking, there were tears coming out of my eyes and I peed a little. Of course I missed my stop and had to wait out in the cold for the next train going the other direction. The aforementioned liquids did not mix well with the freezing cold! Lesson learned – only read David Sedaris in the comfort of your home

I saw him when he was touring Me Talk Pretty One Day before it was published (testing the stories on the road.) Everyone in the audience was doubled over and crying from laughing so hard. One thing about David Sedaris, I think, is that his stories are better read by him than by me, though I’ve heard him enough that when I do read I can hear it in his voice. I was intro’d to him via Santaland Diaries which I listen to pretty much every xmas now. He’s a gem.

I have been on a very serious pickle kick myself… I’ve been going through nearly a jar a week of Bubbies Bread and Butter pickles. . . they are so addicting. I swore by only dill pickles for my whole life, until I discovered these: http://bubbies.com/bread_and_butter_pickles

They make everything I eat happy!

If you can find these, give ’em a whirl! They go great in grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken salad, with hard-boiled eggs…. I eat them straight out of the jar at times, truth be told! So I have no idea where the name “Bread and butter” comes from. Wikipedia offers this explanation–you have to scroll down to the entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickled_cucumber

But bread and butter pickles should be crisp, crunchy, tart, very slightly spiced, and just a little sweet. They are not “sweet pickles” like you used to be served on burgers in the school cafeteria–not that sweet, but the brine includes sugar so there is sweetness along with the tartness. Not sure how authentic are Bubbies, despite the marketing, but the pickles are really fabulous.

OMG, dill pickles. Haven’t met a bad one yet! A co-worker makes a version of potato salad she calls Russian Salad. She puts in 1/2 a jar of mini dills. It’s sooo good; the pickles make it amazing!

We also make a salad we call a ‘Big Salad’ (a nod to Elaine on Seinfeld). Lots of pickles in that one too. Taco chips, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, dill pickles, salsa, green onions and ranch dressing. It sounds weird but so good.

I live by sticky notes! I put a reminder on each one and when the task has been accomplished, I toss the note. They are stuck on my calender or on my monitor.

Thank you, foxbins, for mentioning your first-day-of-the-month tasks. Your list reminded me that I needed to run the cleaning cycle on my clothes washer today, too. I totally spaced that.

Hello, hello, hello–it’s vintage Joy for me this morning, because DAKKIE MADE IT!!!!!
What’s more, he has turned the corner so decisively that we now feel we can leave for the States after all. We had agreed that we could cancel our trip if he needed intensive nursing, because we didn’t feel we could get a car sitter to trek out to the vet at need and administer daily meds (Dakkie is adept at spitting out pills). If I were lots younger, I’d turn cartwheels; if I were just a bit younger, I’d hug anyone who would let me; because I’m the age and disposition that I am, I’ve dabbed myself liberally with skanky Joy-ous flowers and I’m settling down to finish marking my pile of assignments. I had better guard against handing out an over-abundance of A grates….

Thank you all for your best Dakkie wishes yesterday–clearly, they worked ???? I was too distraught and distracted to respond, but I deeply appreciated your thoughts. You all smell delicious today; the whole world does. It’s very cold; it’s raining hard; the world is beautiful. Be well.

By all means: one hug on its way!

I’ve just given 1 A, 1 B- and a D (=fail)…I don’t think my general euphoria is in danger of inflating my grading after all. Phew!

I’m wearing a 1-Antoine perfume today, that being Vraie Blonde and the Antoine being Maisondieu. I’m saving Rossy for tomorrow since that one is a 2-Antoine perfume. :P

I also kind of love that Antoine Maisondieu’s surname translates to “housegod”.

SOTD = ELdO’s Fat Electrician. I’m testing 2 samples of it, one a dabber, and the other a spray. The spray is a little smokier than the dab. Also listening to Aerosmith’s “Permanent Vacation” and thinking it goes very well with Fat Electrician. A great but accidental match!

    I didn’t Antoine today …

SOTD = AG Heure Exquise EDP

It’s Chanel No.19 EDP with aldehydes and vntagey feel instead of the nracing spine-stiffener.

A few weeks back, I mentioned unauthorized removal (although not theft since they went to another of the company’s buildings) furnishing and equipment. At that time, I had pretty much honed in on which group / person may have been involved, but everyone pretended to be surprised. When someone becomes evasive and brash, it is very telling. Today, one person nailed himself by including me in a message because he wanted me to be around at an uneeasonable time tomorrow. I said Nope, you figure it out the same way you managed to direct the unauthorized work to be done. I can’t wait for him to back himself to a corner. If he had been honest with me from the get go, I would have accommodated.

They were a hit! I took the grapes off the vine and filled a gallon baggie so that it is one layer of grapes laid flat. My initial thought was a do it yourself as we are a so casual at these gatherings that we use, gasp, red Solo cups for every drink, including vino. I cut up 2 large apples into cubes, soaked them in lemon juice and 3 oranges sliced into thin rounds. The hostess had another idea and so we ended up using a large acrylic beverage dispenser with spigot so my 2 bottles of sangria base barely covered a fifth of the container. What to do? She dumped in half a bottle of white and a full bottle of red and added the apples and oranges and voila! We stuck with the Solo cups and used the grapes as ice! Thanks for the suggestion!

VCA Muguet Blanc: meh, but it’s an Antoine
Fat Electrician: both thumbs way up!
Burberry Brit Rhythm for her: meh
Armani Code Profumo: will give it a little time; probable scrubber

    Fun day with the samples!
