Happy Towel Day (for interstellar hitchhikers), happy Geek Pride Day, and happy birthday to Sir Ian Murray McKellen! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm going under the radar with a dab of Boy Chanel.
Reminder: on 5/26 we're doing Under the radar — wear a fragrance with minimal (or no) sillage, or something you consider a "skin scent". (Suggested by Hajusuuri)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is from Chanel's pre-Fall 2017 campaign.
Wearing the opposite of under the radar in Alahiiiiiiiiiiine!
Using C. Porto soap in honeysuckle this morning, thank you Nozkoz for the sensitive skin soap suggestions.
Ordered South of France Soap yesterday and its already shipped. Hope these are good baby shower favors and I can’t wait to try one myself if there are any left. Thank you ChocolateMarzipan
I hope you like them 🙂 but I think just for the name alone it is a good match to your party theme.
Yes!
I am very excited
S(s)OTD-
Fleur de Chine (skin scent on me)
Eau Legere (skin scent on me)
Bird of Paradise
Rose Cut
Yowza! You are smelling fine! ????
As are you 🙂
What do you think of Bird of Paradise..I really enjoyed my sample
candied ginger, champaca and pineapple….what’s not to love 🙂 !
Too bad it is really out of my price range…one ounce is two hundred dollars…yikes! However, it is all natural so I am sure the ingredients are top notch.
Oh and I forgot to mention that I applied the Thorn and Bloom and Ann Gerard to the tops of each foot…luckily I am in my own office with a door I can close because I am taking off my sandals and sniffing which is no easy feat (no pun intended) at my age!
Fleur de Chine is a skin scent on you? Wow – either I’m a chronic oversprayer of FdC or it’s a powerhouse on me … not that that’s a bad thing!
I am starting to think I have scent eating skin as I do tend to overapply myself.
Rose Cut is very pretty 🙂
it is!!!
SOTD is Ann Gerard’s Rose Cut. It’s such a pretty scent but today it seemed to leave me shortly after I sprayed myself.
Happy Almost Friday Day! I was a little conflicted about getting out of bed this morning, but thanks to a 40 pound dog beating my pillow with her tail, I really had no choice. So.
Showered with Tauer and now sporting Bruno. Au Dela Narcisse, to be specific. Pretty sure I’m flying under the radar with this dabbed on beauty, mores the pity for anyone who CAN’T smell me cause I’m wafting a seriously fab floral funky fragrance.
Who likes alliteration! I do!! ????
Reek on NSTers!
I am waiting on a puppy so I will join the tail wagging wake up call with you soon.
Oh, do tell! Are you waiting for it be “of age” or are you in the process of looking? I love anything to do with animals. Pretty sure if someone made a fragrance that smells of puppy breath and paws, I’d be first in line!
I lost my 10 year old bernese mountain dog this time last year. I am getting another. The dog mom should give birth this weekend which means bringing her home July 25th or so.
Oh, they are just gorgeous! So sorry you lost yours after 10 years, but also so happy a puppy had a loving home waiting! Keep us updated ????
Those are beautiful dogs!
My SIL raises Bernies! Great friendly creatures. So pretty.
I’m so sorry you lost your dog. I always feel we are honoring their spirit when we find a successor! My dog has two Bernie friends.
puppy breath is the greatest, so is bernner fur after rolling in the snow
I love Au Dela Narcisse SO MUCH. You smell great! (And I’m probably going to be copying you once I make my way to my perfume cabinet.)
I went to the twisted lily website and they are offering his sample pack for FREE with FB purchase of any of his perfumes. I was devastated to see ADN out of stock…but, if you like any of his other scents, now might be a good time to buy. Just sayin’…????
Also woken up early by a happy dog this morning… feeling sleepy as a result, but she’s worth it. 🙂
Yes, it is worth it. Can’t wait to move on to somewhere that’s more dog friendly and spacious…
We woke up to our cat throwing up on carpet at 05:40….
lol! Cats are SPECIAL!
Oh don’t cats love the feel of carpet under their toes when they throw up? Ours always did 🙂
My dog weighs 146 pounds, so I’m very glad he sleeps downstairs. If he wagged his tail on my pillow, he’d probably decapitate me! (He’s a Leonberger, my third in succession.) He’s always happy and it’s contagious!
Those are amazing dogs!
Oh my goodness I want one of those!!!!
You know you are bordering on the edge when you have 30+ bottles of perfume staring at you an done of them seem worth putting on because you are just worn out by c*&p at work. Went Diam Blonde because it was the closest to reach and seems chilly which I am feeling too.
*hugs*
thanks, I am hoping to achieve the state of what the H%^l soon so it does not hurt so much.
Completely understand feeling chilly and needing a scent to amplify this. Hope your day gets warmer!
thanks
I understand what you are going thru. Hope things get better.
thanks
SOTD: Serge Lutens 5 O’Clock Gingembre. Such a great cheery autumn scent for a cold drab Thursday. Just pulled the trigger on a FB of it this week and couldn’t be happier about it 🙂
I got a decant of that because I was QUITE sure I’d love it. Nope. Didn’t work. I’m wondering if the decant was bad because it turned a dark Amber brown within a week. Is it dry and dusty on you?
I wouldn’t describe it as a dusty scent but it is a fairly dry scent. Ginger, tea and spices.
You might like DSH Gingembre as an alternative. It smells like straight up gingerbread on me. Delicious!
Another great (and cheap!) gingerbready scent is Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple. On me it’s orange peels and not-too-sweet gingerbread on a patchouli/vetiver base. My solid perfume has lasted about 3 years so far.
I tried and liked that a while back and now I don’t see it anywhere. Was it discontinued?
I still see it on Pacifica’s website, so I don’t think it’s been discontinued. It may just be a tough one to find. I’ve only ever seen it at a brick and mortar store one time.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I’m wearing Coromandel. It smells especially licorice -y today. I wonder why that is…weather? skin? humidity? It’s pouring rain and cool out there.
I have never gotten licorice from coromandel before, I will have to see if I have enough in a sample to test it again.
Most times I don’t get licorice at all, and then sometimes it is the strongest note. It fascinates me that I can spray the same juice from the same bottle and the scent changes so much.
My experiences with Coromandel are the same. I’ve got a big fb and will be enjoying it a lot this season.
That’s weird, I’ve never smelled licorice in Coromandel (and thank God, because I don’t like the note).
Are you wearing the EDP?
Maybe not quite a skin scent but definitely not a powerhouse either: Love les Carottes. Iris and mud and carrots. Pretty fab!
Oh, yum.
Thanks for reminding me of this one (my bottle is kinda hidden in the perfume cabinet). This is a nice scent to spray with abandon, I think. It just never gets really loud or overpowering.
This sounds like such a fun scent, and I’m glad it’s not overpowering. Now I have to try it!
Early morning workout (indoors) on a chilly rain-soaked day.
L’Occitane Ambre shower gel, do they still sell this? My bottle is about 10 years old and down to 1/4 inch.
Kalemat Arabian Oud, amber and oudh, wears lightly on my skin. Wonderful! !!
—————-
Food for thought.
Yesterday I was de-rinding and preparing my 3rd watermelon of 2017 (my absolute favorite fruit! !!!!) when the phone rang.
I had just sliced a bit of my left forefinger, but my first this year so I’m becoming more knife proficient! Yay !
I mentioned this and my friend, who is African American made a very funny, and very unPC joke. I am Italian American.
We both laughed heartily, but I said to him, that is both a racial and racist joke, despite our heritages. He disagreed.
We both agreed to disagree, but I did inform him I would discuss it here.
Opinions ?
🙂
Carpe Diem. Triple strength coffee.
Peace.
Well, I’m sadly very unPC. Someone once said to me-
Him: “Oh, with a last name like that, you must be Irish.”
Me: “Yep, my dad was born and raised there and amazingly, he’s not a drunk or a crooked cop.”
Him: Crickets.
See what I mean?! Very unPC ????
I find it funny, but I am NOT offended by Italian jokes.
I have a cousin who complains about Mario (the video game character) and illustrations on pizza boxes.
I tell him, Lighten up Luigi (not his name) , which irritates the h3ll outta him.
LOL. 😉
You are naughty, Bear!
That made me LOL
????????????
Ha! I would have laughed!
Some people just take themselves too seriously imo.
They certainly do. I don’t take anything personally- compliments or criticisms, it’s all the same. I just nod and smile, unmoved by either. ????
Political Correctness done right is pretty much etiquette for the modern age. Like etiquette, it was meant to help people get along together and know how to set other people at ease, and like etiquette it can be weaponised by insecure people to put other people down.
Anyway, I occasionally will share a non-PC joke with TOMK but the key thing is that it is *knowingly* un-PC. The acid test is, do we both laugh and say we’re bad people and definitely going to hell.
Sometimes people I work with will make a gay joke or Irish joke, and I will cut people a lot of slack if I know them and we respect each other. I’m a lot less comfortable overhearing such jokes, or getting them directed at me from someone I barely know, because they haven’t established their good faith yet. Does that make sense?
Yes, thanks for the thoughtful response, Koenigsberg.
And gay jokes irritate me and Italian jokes do not.
🙂
hmmm, interesting. Why do you think you have differing responses? I’m curious about that…
I think because discrimination against gays occurred more frequently when I was a teenager (’70s), and I still have to put some homophobes in their place (a previous job, the bastion of jacka$$straight white men ).
I always was able to speak my mind, others sadly were not as willing to do so.
My Mother really took offense to the various Italian epithets.
One must pick their battles, I suppose.
Cheers, Deva!
😀
Makes perfect sense to me.
Years ago when my children were small enough that I pushed them down the sidewalks in a double stroller I met an elderly neighbor. I didn’t know him well at all and rarely saw him. He asked me if the children were twins. I said that they were 18 months apart in age. He said, “Oh, then they’re almost Irish twins.”
I had no idea what that meant. My family is part Irish so I wondered if he could tell by looking at us? But no, of course not. I just smiled and kept walking. I had a friend later tell me what Irish twins are. We had a good laugh at the whole thing.
But I can’t abide jokes about redheads, I’m protective of the gingers in our family. 🙂
You’ve described my feelings perfectly! It’s all about context.
I’m always torn about being unPC about one’s own background, eventhough I’ve admittedly partaken in that about my own ethnicity(Jewish).
We have dinner outings with a group of friends and one couple is a Jamaican lesbian married to a trangendered Jewish male from Long Island. They are completely irreverant and foul-mouthed and hilarious but I’m cautious with joining in on the jokes. I’ve had my share of people making jokes about my ethnicity and my reaction largely depends on who’s saying it, the context, and what I know about them and their views.
Exactly. Who says what and when are important. I am cautious, too. That’s the thin line we tread these days.
And speaking of tiffanie, I was watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s over the weekend and thought how making that movie today would bring about boycotts and protests.
I agree, intention makes a big difference. If there is even a bit of ill will, it will be sensed and be offensive. I have to say, I thought it was very funny when my Hindu son-in-law who was emcee at my Christian daughter’s wedding to a Jewish man (the wedding was held in a gorgeous, rustic barn), opened the speeches with the line, “So a Hindu, a Jew, and a Christian walk into a bar…n”.
That’s sweet, actually ????
Fantastic! What a great opening =)
I think it can be very personal what we take offence to and what we don’t. For many years I allowed others to comment and joke about my height and weight and would even make excuses about it (high metabolism, I was always this way, etc, etc, etc). Now I am no longer as accepting of it for I ask them point blank “If I were a hundred pounds overweight and seven feet tall would you feel comfortable telling me how fat and giant I am?”….and yet there are other things that I let slide which I probably should not!…
I think if you let your friend know that it made you uncomfortable and you found it politically incorrect he should bear that in mind in your future conversations and respect YOUR boundaries whatever they may be. That’s just my opinion…..YMMV……
Good for you! My son was always in the 5th percentile for height and weight. “The wee sprog” was our nickname for him when he was growing up. Now that he is 10 inches taller than me but still thin as a rail, I never comment on his size or shape.
I don’t make jokes around people who can’t handle them or too sensitive. But I do love to joke
I also find that it depends on who tells the joke. The south here in the US is often made fun of as backward or redneck or hillbilly etc. (none of which describe me or most people in the city in which I live). I find I am not bothered by fellow southerners making jokes, but it does bother me when someone outside of the region does. For whatever reason it’s like family- I am allowed to make fun of my family or complain about them, but I’d better not hear anyone else doing it. 😉
Funny, I’m also very protective of Los Angelenos since I grew up there, eventhough I can’t necessarily disgree with the steteotypes.
Ambre is d/c, as is its follower Ambre Santal. I wish L’Occitane got rid of its habit of discontinuing scents all the time! I have a shower gel + body lotion duo of the latter that I use sparingly.
Thanks for the update, TriesToBeClassy.
Movin’ On! LOL 😉
A cool and rainy day. Getting ready for another working day doing outdoor inspections. Wearing Kenzo Amour Indian Holi. I am going thru bottles that don’t get too much attention and I fear they might start evaporating. I also want to finish some of them to get room for new additions, so I will be spraying with abandon.
Indian Holi was the full bottle that got away…..liked what I smelled but never got around to purchasing it. No worries…plenty of other perfumes, right? You smell delicious 🙂 And yes, use up what you love before it evaporates!!!!!
I meant to wear Portrait of a Lady, but grabbed the wrong decant in the dark and ended up with 31 Rue Cambon!
Unrelated — has anyone else ever been sniffing something new and going “ho-hum, clean floral, blah blah…wait, wait–is that skank?! That’s so…I can’t believe they put that much in a mass market frag….” and then you look down at your dog in shock…just as she farts a second time? 😉
Too funny! My dog’s not much of a farter, but when I put on perfume, she very deliberately and thoroughly sniffs me. Then, if the perfume calls for it, she starts to roll or rub all over me, tail wagging joyously! She’s my funk barometer ????
Aww that’s cute. My cats will sniff me, and if they like what I’m wearing, they’ll try to lick it and realize it doesn’t actually taste very good.
That is great!
????
I’m wearing Eau de Camille for the first time today. It may qualify as a skin scent. I think though, that it is because the decant is a rollerball, rather than a spray. I’ve switched to rollerball decants because otherwise I overspray.
Interesting, maybe I prefer sprays so I can overspray!
Eau de Camille was one of the greatest green scents I owned…to bad they discontinued it.
ugh..that would be “too” not “to” !!!
SOTD and genuine skin scent #1, inspired by my completely sane and rational fear of Hajusuuri, is Hermes “Rose Ikebana”.
Notes are: orange, spices, fruity notes, musk, cassia, tea, rose, lemon and rhubarb.
This one is crisp and fresh for a hot sunny day (which I am spending indoors with my best friend Excel). This is a FB from before my NST time, i.e. when I thought buying a 100ml bottle was a sensible thing to do.
Today is Corpus Christi and a public holiday in 6 of the 16 federal states (of Germany), including North Rhine-Westphalia where my client is based. So, I flew home last night and am working in my home office. The good news is, that means I can run upstairs and re-dose myself every few hours when it dies away to nothing. :^)
Difficult to imagine that there was a time when you thought you only needed a single perfume, and thus buying in bulk (i.e. a 100 ml bottle) was a smart move.
lol, it’s funny how lately I think of 100 ml bottles as something that should only be sold at Costco.
Yes to Hermes! The Hermessences were my gateway to perfume mania. Enjoy your day at home, Mr. K. 🙂
Mine too. I’ve had 15ml bottles of all of ’em bar the newbie. :^)
I will someday too! See, who says I have no goals in life?
I love how Rose Ikebana is wet without being aquatic. Lovely skin scent <3
And here’s me waiting for the day’s razzing from you. I was sure it would be about not being able to keep a secret. You know… when tbe perfume leaks, hard to errr wear it under the radar sort of thing?
(Minor edit: today is of course Ascension Day and not Corpus Christi)
Rose Ikebana is a skinnscent for n me as well. Will your SOTD tomorrow absolve you fro hajusuuri’s wrath? Stay tuned 🙂
In Dior Homme today, for its soothing properties – it’s gonna be a stressful day, but I will survive! Happy Almost-Friday, NSTers!
Lovely!
SL Rahat Loukhoum, from a 10 year old bottle. So good. 🙂
That must have been a very good year. 😉
People talk about this one a lot. I still don’t see how Turkish Delight can translate to a great perfume, but what do I know? The next time I go to a Turkish place, I’ll rub some onto my wrists and see how that goes.
Well, it’s basically a sweet almondy smell. If you like that sort of thing it’s wonderful.
Chilly, cloudy day in Madison, WI. Serge Lutens Chergui, for the warmth.
Yum! That’s a great scent.
Hello fellow Madisonian!!
You smell really great!
LOVE!
testing Chanel 1932 sample, its nice but a little too commercial for an expensive exclusive, this should have been a mainstream fragrance,
not worth $325 full bottle!
REally? the big bottles are that expensive now? yikes!!!
Creed Royal Oud from a sample, very pleasant woody aromatic fragrance.
Haven’t managed to try Boy Chanel yet…
Do you live in the US? If so, email me
laugsb at sbcglobal dot net
Sent you an email 🙂
SOTD is Santal 33. Under the radar? Not so much.
Question: Have you ever had a memory of a scent, as in you can smell it in your mind, but you can’t place what it is or where you smelled it? This happened to me yesterday afternoon. I “smelled” a perfume in my memory but for the life of me I can’t figure out what it was. I was hoping it might have been Santal 33 but I’m not so sure. Memory is so ethereal and fleeting and I can’t recall it anymore to know if I guessed right. I’ve had similar scent experiences in dreams. When I wake up I want to smell that smell, but usually I can’t recall it or place it’s origin. Does this happen to anyone else?
The elevator in my building smells like Santal 33 because so many people wear it.
When I went to Italy when I was in high school on a school trip I brought with me a sample of Gio, this was the original, and sometimes I feel like I smell that in my dreams or have a scent memory even though I have smelled it since the 90’s.
I loved Gio! They really should have kept it around.
Second that!
All the time…..and I dream about smells too.
Yes, that happens to me too! A fragrance will appear around the edges of my mind when I’m deeply involved in work or focused on a series of tasks. It’s disconcerting because if I think to hard about what it might be then I lose it! I have to wait and let it come to me. Then if I can’t think of the name of the scent I wander over to the perfume bottles and see if I can find it. Glad I’m not the only one. 🙂
This happens to me all the time! Thanks for making me feel a little less bad at perfume!
SOTD = Cuir d’Ange, good choice for a skin scent when getting a haircut!
Y’all have a lovely day. ????
Hah! I once greatly overestimated this as a skin scent and pretty massively oversprayed. I could smell myself in my shared office pretty much all day. I’m assuming it smelled good, since my office mate didn’t complain.
Lea again for day 2 of going under the radar.
The weekend is almost here!
Bourbon French Perfume of Paradise. Very green with lots of gardenia and jasmine in it, and I’m getting a tiny bit of rose.
Sounds very nice!
This must be Thursday. I could never quite get the hang of Thursdays.
SotD = Eau des Merveilles because I know where my towel is.
Towel/Geek/Sir Ian day is a perfect trifecta of celebrations. Thanks to Robin for the reminder. We’re doing laundry and folding towel animals at my house today.
Hmmm Good question how you would celebrate all three at once. Lying on a towel at the beach dressed as Magneto, fixing people’s computers?
lol, yes! also must remember don’t panic when the internet stalls while watching a LoTR movie marathon.
I get Thursdays when they’re actually my Friyay!
When I worked in IT the programming insisted a last-working-day-of-the-week-Thursday was actually a “logical Friday.”
At times I forget I was a full-time professional geek in another life, heh.
Lieu de Reve for me, which seems to stay very close.
My goodness, you smell divine!!!! A younger family member stole a few spritzes of my decant from the back bathroom in our house and I did not know it at the time…I kept asking everyone “who smells so good ? who smells so good?!!!”….they all looked at me as though I had gone bonkers 🙂
I’m also under the radar in Chanel…Bel Respiro. Mmmm!
hmmm..that is a good one
Nice! It’s like a sheer veil of green.
Today I’m wearing Alien Essence Absolute. Not my favorite Alien, but nice for a cool rainy day. PSA, Mugler USA is having their Private sale this week. Up to 30% off a lot of fragrances including Muse, and the A-mens. No affiliation.
I always wonder why they are called Private sales?
I am not under the radar in my Shalimar edp. Most of the scents I love do not fit the “under the radar” category. I do have a few samples picked out for tomorrow though!
Whereas I have an embarrassment of riches over here in my cabinet 😉
Sorta under the radar in Aqua di Parma Iris Nobile. There’s not a whole lot of iris in here -Tuberosa Nobile would be more apt-, but I would happily wear it in the summer.
Is that the EdT or the EdP?
Today is La Chasse aux Papillons. Mmm, orange blossom!
beautiful!
SOTD Huitieme Art Poudre de Riz. Haven’t worn this in a while. I think it’s pretty under the radar after it settles down. Clean, innocent, musky and I doesn’t demand too much attention. Working well on this grey, rainy day.
I wondered if you would wear that. I’m down to the last few spritzed of the bit you sent me. A bottle may be in my future.
Happy to send you more if you’d like. As is the way, once it’s not shiny and new anymore, it gets a lot less attention.
My goodness, isn’t that the truth. I’ve seen my eagerness to wear each scent plummet when I made the transition from sample/decant to FB :-/
Yeah, which is why I’m trying to avoid full bottles. Happens almost every time!
And, by the way, you smell great and are right that it’s perfect for a rainy day.
Not in anything yet but thinking of BK’s Imperial Tea. Not under the radar exactly, but it settles to a skin scent fairly quickly.
I’d call that reasonably under the radar!
I’m firmly under the radar today in JM Wood Sage & Sea Salt.
lovely!
Good one!
I started out with under-the-radar Clair de Musc this morning but when it faded couldn’t resist something more potent. Luckily I have a travel spray of Epic in my desk drawer!
A skin scent of Granville sample turned into body oil–and a first, I think, it made my cat (tentatively) lick my arm. I’ve heard of other kitty weirdoes on this site doing this, but it never happened to me.
Must like bergamot.
My two will do that sometimes. They seem to have different tastes too. My older male cat (14yo) seems to like green scents and chypres, and my younger female cat (10yo) seems to like vanilla/gourmands.
All five of my cats have been known to lick my arms when I’m wearing certain perfumes. I haven’t really paid attention to which ones get a reaction from them.
SSS Rose Musc drove my tomcat cat into blissfulness, he started sucking and slobbering all over my arm, with his eyes closed, kneading me with his paws, and he complained mightily when I got up and put him back on the floor. The girl cat showed no interest.
I once spilled some from a sample of Musc Ravageur and one of my cats ran over to it and peed on the spot!
You have FIVE CATS?! That’s amazing!
I have to interact closely with people today so I’m wearing Un Jardin sur le Nil. It should be a skin scent pretty quickly.
Has anyone tried Tauer L’Eau yet? I read a review on Cafleurebon that made it sound pretty good–not too fleeting and with Andy’s signature touches.
No, but I desperately want to. A problem with cafleurebon is that they seem to like absolutely EVERYTHING, which makes me trust them less.
Ditto this. I’ve basically stopped reading that blog because of all the PC 😉
I have no idea how they operate, but it’s also possible they only review things they like. Kind of how Luca Turin did that with his blog- so as not to hurt the smaller businesses.
That certainly could be. I wish people like that would be a bit more clear about it, though.
I did try it compliments of the ever generous perfumelover67. It’s nice: kind of a sweetish, powdery citrus with some woods in it. It does remind of of the orange or yellow Smarties. I wouldn’t quite call it “clean” or “refreshing”, though. It definitely has the Tauer stamp on it.
As Elisa P. says, it is not a refreshing citrusy scent as I was expecting. It is creamy, powdery, sweet (it is a Tauer, anyway) and has a lemony note that reminds me of lemon Pez candies. The sillage for 2 sprays is moderate. In terms of longevity, it does not last more than 3 hours on me. After 2 hours it becomes a skin scent. 3 hours later is gone. My skin sometimes is a perfume eater, so it could be different on someone else. I will wear it only in Springtime. It would be too overwhelming for me in Summer days, unless I crave for it. Nice and pleasant. I like it, but I do not love it.
Yes, I got a sample recently. I haven’t done a solo testing yet because is got sidetracked by Au Dela, but the one day I wore several samples, including this one, I really liked it (until my nose was burnt to a crisp from too much sniffy sniffy).
Attempting to learn plasma physics (ahhhhhhhh) while wearing Oud al Sahraa. I’m afraid that this week, I am not a frood who really knows where her towel is. But I keep focusing on the cover of that ever-important book, which reminds me: DON’T PANIC.
(Thanks, Robin, for reminding us of Towel Day.)
Smelling good 🙂 I find that one very sweet…do you?
Yes, wonderfully subtly woodily sweet! I’m enjoying it a lot 🙂
I love it too!!! I bought it for a younger family member who happily asked for just a decant and then told me I could “share” her bottle…needless to say it is already half way gone 🙂
Have you tried any others? I seem to remember you had the Russian one, right? I think Scorza di Sicilia would be fantastic for the summer heat. Vanira Morrea is also a nice one for the summer…neroli and vanilla…delicious….
I also have samples of Assam of India (which comes boyfriend-approved!) and Selva do Brazil (meh). I have a FB of Russkaya Kozha that I adore to bits! I haven’t tried much of the rest, but should look into getting a few samples of the rest of their range 🙂
Nonsense, Koyel, you’re quite hoopy! Once you’re done with plasma physics, perhaps you can move on to mastering the use of the Infinite Improbability Drive…? ????
Agreed! Now that she’s conquered the stick shift and has her own car, the world’s her oyster… 😀
Go Koyel!
Oh my goodness, I’m so ashamed to admit this–I didn’t actually master stick (hide). I bought an automatic! BUT I HAVEN’T YET GIVEN UP!
Knowing how to drive stick should come in handy should you decide to go back to France and drive around. Many years back, a friend of mine and I decided to drive from Paris to Burgundy. The only type of car available for rent was stick shift which precluded me from sharing in the driving. So what did hajusuuri do. Navigated! Except, because of my poor sense of direction AND, IIRC, once you get into the country, the street signs don’t really have street names; instead, they all have arrows pointing somewhere and “in the direction of (fill in the name of the next town)”. Needless to say, we made it to Burgundy and stayed in a castle converted to a bed & breakfast.
I should clarify and say because I navigated, we got lost but eventually found our way to Burgundy.
I’m not sure whether that would be the BEST of ideas. Surely it could use a few tweaks!
(My boyfriend has never read THHGTTG. Isn’t that embarrassing?? I’m not even sure he’s read LOTR.)
Really, you can thank my son 🙂
Today I am wearing and comparing vintage Opium from the late 80s/early 90s I got off the Bay of Evil and recent Opium from the past 5 years or so from a duty-free YSL mini set.
I have never worn Opium and bought the vintage mini to see what all the hullabaloo is about…perhaps the hullabaloo is old as I don’t see too many comment on wearing Opium in the daily poll.
By and large, they smell quite similar to me. The recent mini smells sharper and more synthetic to my nose. They both remind me of Cinnabar which a friend of mine worn in college…I think she stole it from her mother.
In terms of iconic, powerhouse orientals of the 70s and 80s, Opium and Cinnabar never wowed me in the way Coco did. I suppose notes-wise, Coco is a different beast than Opium and Cinnabar too.
I woke seek out more Opium but I do love smelling things from the 70s, 80s and 90s…chock full of dangerous 😉 chemicals and banned ingredients…just the way the perfumer and God intended. 🙂
I worked with someone in 1979/1980 at my first job who wore Opium. Noticeable, and I loved it on her. So, of course I bought a bottle. I’m pretty sure I finished it, but I never felt it was “me.” I was all about green floral at that time.
Ditto…not me. I loved it on my college friend too.
Imho, nothing can beat the 80’s Coco! Definitely in my lifetime top 3.
Where can I buy a small number of maybe 3 ml (empty) spray bottles. Whenever I offer someone a bit of whatever I have, I think “Now what am I going to put that in?”
https://www.amazon.com/Elfenstal-Atomizer-Refillable-Perfume-Portable/dp/B01C2WQB9C
I haven’t purchased these 3ml. but I have purchased 5ml from amazon and have been satisfied with them.

and I have bought and like these as they are fancier and are nice if you want to give a decant as a “real gift”.
I bought 5 ml from that brand as well and have been satisfied.
I recommend CM’s link too. I’ve been happy with both sizes. And the microfiber cloth (included) is fantastic on device screens & glasses!
I decided I wanted to go kind of clean and simple today, so Vetiver Tonka it is. It’s become kind of my go-to for days like this.
Excellent choice. I feel the same about Vetiver Tonka and it never disappoints.
Chases aux pappilion is my skin scent today, perfect for the perfect sunny day.
That’s a great one, light and easy to wear!
SOTD is Dubai Next to Me. No one else gets to smell me though, as I can’t handle heat and it is HOT today and will be even hotter tomorrow.
I am jealous, I want some hot weather!
Today I was in Rose Anonyme by Atelier Cologne.
You smell great and not under the radar!
I’m baaaack! Did you miss me? 😉 I’ve been gone for a month – a 3 week cruise, followed by a week seeing family/friends. Not much in the way of perfume; I packed a few decants – news flash: Bel Respiro is great in hot weather – but I was staying with family who have an asthmatic cat, so no perfume there.
SOTD is Marni.
A 3 week cruise sounds absolutely fabulous!
I agree!
Wow! Where did you visit?
Sounds nice! Where’d it go?
We went from Florida to Colombia, through the Panama Canal, and up the west coast to Seattle with a number of quite interesting stops along the way.
Sounds great!
Oh, that sounds amazing! Did you love it?
Yes. It was a good mixture of interesting places to visit (The Old City part of Cartagena, Mayan ruins in Guatemala, wildlife watching in Costa Rica) and at sea days to catch up on my reading.
That cruise sounds great! Which line?
Holland America.
I had a feeling it was! I’ve only ever cruised with HAL, 6 under my belt!
Hello, NST. I’m serendipitously doing the project today because yesterday I bought –finally!–La Pausa. I’m simultaneously bathed head downwards in delicious dry elegance AND under the radar. I spent the 24th, my actual birthday, lying down in a dark room navigating my way through a migraine, so yesterday was LP day. Oh, how I love this perfume, and how very glad I am that I bought it.
Kanuka and I had a lovely play at Chanel, sniffing all the scent cones and the pure perfume oils. I was struck by how deep, and sometimes almost unpleasant, some of the oils smelt. Came away thinkng that although I love many, many perfumes from all over the perfume universe, if someone passed a law saying we could buy from only one house, I would have no problems about immediately registering Chanel as my perfume source.
So, I have a thing to do at work, and it behoves me to pootle off and do it. I have a towel (sprayed with La Pausa), so if I have to ward off the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatterbeast of Traal IV as I walk through the park, I’ll be just fine. I may not have recalled the name of that fabulous creature exactly, but Douglas Adams described it as monumentally stupid, so if I do meet one and mis-name it, it probably won’t notice. Be well, all.
Yes, it would be pretty easy to commit to an exclusive relationship with Chanel! …Keep that towel handy, lest you be subjected to Vogon poetry in the course of your day at work!
I would go with House Chanel too if it were end of days. For that matter, I would like to see a well-perfumed character from House Chanel appear in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones but I digress… 😉
Happy belated bday! Enjoy your lovely purchase!
I have a confession. I have become addicted to the word “pootle.” I have no idea why, but I love it. My mouth loves to say it and my ears love to hear it. I have a similar fondness for the word “parallel” simply because it makes my tongue skip around behind my teeth. Who’s a geek? I’m afraid I am. So, a belated “Thank You” to you Waterdragon, for teaching me a new word to love. T-Rex and I must now pootle outside to piddle. =)
I’ve been completely charmed by “pootle,” too!
Aww, I love your comment as I’m a word nerd, too. Thanks for the laugh! ????
Joining the geek brigade…I love pootle (and twee and kerfuffle)
Sorry you were felled by migraine on your actual birthday, but happy to hear you now have a bottle of The Precious in hand!
Happy belated birthday, waterdragon! Enjoy the heck out of your La Pausa!
Happy belated Birthday, Waterdragon! What a drag that a migraine crashed your special day.
Happy Birthday, waterdragon.
Happy birthday! I am in Coromandel. What a great afternoon
Welcome back! Wow, a 3 week cruise sounds wonderful!
Oops, meant that for Aparatchick!
DON’T PANIC! Happy Towel Day, you hoopy froods! And a very happy birthday to Sir Gandalf! ???? …What an excellent day, letting my geek flag fly!
Pressure changes and incoming winds have me flying under the radar today, for the sake of my head, with a bit of Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom.
Yes you are!
Assuming Geek Pride Day coincides with Star Wars original release date. May the Force be with you! I’m still proud that I saw it 5 times in the theater over the first year of its release.
I did not even know that!
I put on the last few drops of my decant of Amouage Journey Woman and have decided it is definitely NOT for me. I’ve been on the fence about it for some time now, but in our warm muggy weather it is kind of sickening. It has an aggressive sharp pointed honey note. I want to say cinnamon honey but it doesn’t list cinnamon as a note so it must be the cardamom/nutmeg combination. It’s like a needle in my nose. Goodbye to that!
Meanwhile I am the happy foster mother of four adorable fluffy four-week-old kittens! Two are little beige cream-puffs and two are tortie girls. They are all round and plump and illegally cute! So far, two are friendly explorers and two are still hissing at me. Lots of progress to be made here, including a flea bath very soon (poor babies).
Baths and kittens! Have fun and good luck!
Kittens! How adorable! I pretty much had the same experience with Journey which I thought I’d love.
Bless you for taking care of those little kitties! I hope the hissy ones warm up to you soon, especially since they are facing a bath. ????
Hooray for foster kitties! I would be curious to know the results of kitten gentling if you decide to do it!
Ah, bless you for fostering! It’s such a rewarding experience, though it can be hard not to foster fail. 😉
Sotd: Euphoria!!
Yesterday I received my cosmetic order which included a Euphoria sample. I have old school love for the big E. Today the sample was calling out to me, so of course I obliged…..????
Euphoria! That’s the first scent I ever fell in love with, back before I really got into perfumes. I wore it to prom and many a homecoming dance 🙂
I accidentally sprayed myself with 24 Fauborgh this morning, not exactly a skin scent. I quickly washed it off and and put on the originally intended Eau des Merveilles. I still had some 24 in my hair but I think they smelled pretty good together and no one at work complained. An accidental layering. ????
I prefer to wear EdM during the summer so I haven’t worn it in a while. I forgot how lovely it is.
Ugh… Faubourg…
Hi twin! EdM is truly lovely, especially on a warm day.
Waving back. ????
Under the radar SOTD = Aftelier Cuir de Gardenia
I apply this to hair, just because. It stays very close to skin and is perfect as an under the radar scent!
Question (and I will repeat this again tomorrow) – I am bringing alcohol labeled “Sangria” to a Memorial Day get-together. Besides oranges, apples an lemons to keep the apples from browning, what other ingredients would you add to make it extra special?
You can freeze seedless grapes and use them as ice cubes.
Cheers hajusuuri !! 😉
Oh good. Best part? Wash and freeze although to make it look like I did something, I may have to halve it and ask people to read-sniff
Maybe blueberries or halved strawberries?
This shows promise!
I did a second wearing of You, or Someone Like You today. The first wearing a couple of weeks ago was not auspicious – I could have sworn I smelled cat pee! Today’s wearing was much, much better – so much so that I’ve decided I actually like this minty-banana leaf-shiso concoction. (Cat pee lurked but was held in check by the mint and what I perceived to be softer citrusy notes; rose was AWOL…)
The daily mail the other day reminded me that I should wear Cedrat Enivrant more often, even though it fades so quickly I forget whether I’ve worn enough. Thanks to the wonderful Hajusuuri for my decant!
And while I didn’t comment on the thread, I loved Bear’s prompt on “unPC jokes” and the thoughtful discussion that followed. This really is such a great community!
