It's Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle, because ShellyW reminded me of it yesterday.
Reminder: 5/12 will be Lessons Learned Friday...wear a fragrance that taught you something you didn't know about yourself, about fragrance, anything! Suggested by Floragal.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Dries Van Noten pink patent ankle boot was very expensive and is long since sold out.
SOTD Feuliles D’Oranger
This taught me that I can love everything about orange blossoms, the petals, barks, tree..the whole thing.
This is discontinued and I haven’t like anything from L’occitane.
Yesterday, I am not sure if anyone saw my answer to the questions of testing some perfumes at Annick Goutal store. Passion was nice on the skin, but I feel like there are other white florals that are just as good or better.
Tenue de Soiree I was not expecting to like at all because I was judging it before trying it, the purple pompom…new bottle..the young woman in the ad. However I ended up liking it a lot. Smells like Iris, fruits and patchouli. It settles really nicely on my skin, the dry down is sweet but not over powering. Anyone else try this?
I didn’t read Robin’s review of this until last night (sorry Robin I don’t always have time to keep up)
Elisa P, this was my 4th time to the store to try different things and now that I am off my vacation it will be awhile before I can sniff around 🙁
They gave me a sample of it in the store but I have not tried it yet.. I was smitten with Nuit Etoielle for both the pine/sap and immortelle combo….
I love Passion because it’s a rather strange white floral. Mind you, I’ve never tried the current version, so it might have changed quite a bit. I wasn’t going to try Tenue de Soirée, but I think I might have to change my mind about that.
You are apologizing for not reading one of my reviews??
Anyway, I never did love Passion but have not tried it in years and should get a sample. I did like Tenue, and it’s certainly a more wearable fragrance.
Tenue I liked a lot, which I wasn’t expecting at all.
I did fall in love with Heure Exquise, reminded me a bit of a Chanel.
CM8, you are lucky with your samples! I never get any in these stores
I used the “it is my birthday” card and “I am only in the city once a year for sniffing”….plus I had my driver’s license on the ready to prove that it really was my birthday….and the Malle boutique it was pure luck that I got the French SA as I practiced my rusty French on her and she was amused by that…..so she gave us three samples!!!
L’Occitane is so annoying the way they discontinue stuff. They sued to have a Linden scent that I loved many years ago. Then, poof! Gone.
Totally agree! I used to like L’eau de Miel gentle honey water and all those wood soaps that were shaped like large smooth river stones …especially the cedar one . Makes me go grrrrrrr.
Ah. Probably a more thoughtful strategy than my speed sniffing. I tend to forget what I smelled anyway. Glad you found some to enjoy! I also wasn’t wowed by Passion or Gardenia Passion. I thought they were fine but kind of generic white florals.
Thanks for your scent insights. That helps me decide if I should chase either of them or not.
I would give the new one a sniff
And something else goes onto the sample list… 🙂
Today I’m wearing ‘Larmes du Désert’ by Atelier Des Ors and it is glorious!
Glorious is good 🙂
My SOTD is inspired by yesterday’s posts also.
Eau des Merveilles!
I need to follow your example and keep it simple with regard to comments…..and you smell like you….I always associate the EdM with you and tiffany 🙂
Oh, I love your comments! Some days I just feel chattier than others, lol.
This is one of my desert island scents for sure!
The honest truth is I am quite shy in real life but Mr. CM8 says I have “diarrhea of the mouth” at home 🙂
Lol. Me too, I am really an introvert at heart. Any form of public speaking is my worst nightmare.????
Nah! Your comments are a highlight of many a day!
🙂
EdM in the house! you smell fab. 🙂
Woot woot- thank you!
Ah favorite of mine as well, cant wait to try the Bleue soon!
Mariann, I still have an extra sample of the Bleue ( I ordered a 5 pack from eBay last month) if you’d like to try it, shoot me an email at pkwisdom in the land of yahooo.
Testing…. Testing… one…two …three
Continuing on my massive testing extravaganza, last night post shower SSS Champagne du Bois…holy cannoli …I had never replaced the full bottle I had of this one many years ago so I forgot how absolutely stunning this one is…as much as I adore the offerings of Dame Perfumery and Berdoues Grand Cru collection there is something about SSS fragrances that touch me on a deep emotional level. I am grateful that my best friend sent me a decant of this one.
After reading Lucas’s current mini review on Arz el- Rab and the Scented Hound’s review on the Russian Berdoues I was inspired to steal a few spritzes of Arz el-Rab from a family member’s full bottle this morning. Really hit the spot as it was a mere 35 degrees and this one I really like in cooler weather.
At work I am testing Plum….well, this is NOT what I was expecting at all! It reminds me a lot of two of my favorite fragrances, Rush and Chinatown in that, to my nose, it is fruity, bold and has this modern, hip vibe….my nose gets a lot of fruit, not much floral, and not much of a chypre element. It is fun and I like it and I am going to pass on my sample to a younger family member whom I anticipate will absolutely adore it.
And why can’t I be that person who doesn’t write such lengthy comments? Tomorrow I will try the simple format- SOTD= XYZ
Don’t do it! I love your posts! I’ve never tried Plum, but Rush and Chinatown? I’m in!
Keep in mind my nose can be wonky so what I smell might nto be what you smell 🙂
Oh man, that’s so funny… you know I love me some Plum, but it’s not terribly terribly fruity on me; I mostly get the florals and a teeny little slice of modern-chypre stuff. Chinatown makes me feel slightly nauseous, but I’ve never tried Rush. Maybe I should. 🙂
This is not to say that your perceptions of Plum are wrong, of course! Absolutely no one scent works for every single person.
Yeah, and skip the “SOTD is X” comments unless you really want to.
If Chinatown made you nauseous then I suggest you go lightly with Rush if you ever get the chance to try it!
The Chemist in the Bottle’s review of Arz el-Rab is spot on. It’s fizzy-gingery great cologne, great stuff.
For kindred cologne lovers, I recently sampled 5 of the Berdoues Grand Crus and found all of them wearable, liked 4 very well, and went FB for Assam of India (smh as I could have just bought that one unsniffed, it’s wonderful).
You already know that I am a big fan of all of the Berdoues….Assam of India was a blind buy for me too…. with those elephants on the bottle I could not resist!
it everyone did SOTD=x is would be a boring blog to read IMHO
If everyone I meant to write
Ha! that is true.
Agreed.
All three of these fragrances sound VERY intriguing!
🙂
I wore Plum yesterday afternoon. It is a jammy scent on me or like those slightly salted, chewy dried plums at the Chinese food shop? For the first few minutes I really like it but then after a while I find it kind of heavy and suffocating, the equivalent of the gold paint slathered over those Bond victims. I have lots of ‘loud’ perfumes but Plum is the only one that clogs my pores ( not literally ). Also, it doesn’t develop much, but just closes in. Still, i have almost finished my bottle of it now and I expect I should just go easier on application sprays so it’s not so heavy.
Well, I could not spray as my sample was a dabber…but yes, I get the “loud” but did not find it terribly suffocating…but it is very very sweet! sort of “grape-ish”…..and now that I am sniffing it also reminds me a bit of a more subdued Poison ……
I had a Champagne de Bois sample that sat idle for a long time. When I sprayed the last of it, I had a similar response, and immediately went looking for a FB. Good fortune fell upon me when one of our own here offered up her bottle in a swap. I love the aldehydic sillage, and that rich sandalwood right on my skin sends me to ecstasy every time. Sooooo good.
ecstasy…oh yess!!!! the sandalwood is divine…I don’t remember reacting to it so fiercely when I had my full bottle…luckily my best friend sent me a decant so I should be set for a while.
100 % in agreement with this assessment. I love it!!
Glad Robin was inspired yesterday. I am going without perfume in hopes of meeting FM at the Barney’s in SF this afternoon! I hope they have the new one out to test. My guess is I will stick with my en passant or l
L hiver in a travel size due to budget though.
Fun! Try to get some of those cute little samples. They are really more like small decants.
Fun! Surely they will have Superstitious. Curious to hear your thoughts on it. I went to an FM event at an FM boutique featuring FM himself. I more “watched” him than “met” him.
I imagine the same, just watching
How lovely — have a great time and do tell us all about it!
Chant d’Arômes which I bought on Donatella’s birthday. Somehow I don’t think this would be quite her thing, but it is very much mine. Truly lovely.
Really, we should all buy a bottle every year on Donatella’s birthday! Congrats on yours.
Good idea! 🙂
When I got it I didn’t know it was her birthday, but reading NST I realised that purely by chance I had bought something on that particular day.
That is a lovely scent. I have it on my FB list as well (which keeps growing and growing…)
I got a sample in January and was completely and utterly smitten.
Now you make me wonder, what would be her thing?
Something big and rather loud 😉
In a gaudy bottle.
Yep!
Hahahha 🙂
You are probably right, her outfits are loud as well.
(the whole brand seems loud…though not all of it is, my husband found a very basic black Versace shirt at a discounter and it is actually discreet and nice…)
And I just realised I never smelled a Versace fragrance in my life.
In Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her, just because I was craving for some powdery lavender and the bottle was very handy.
Plus its so easy to wear!
That is pretty. I got tired of it halfway through my bottle and gave it away to someone who adored it, but I miss it from time to time – it is perky and soothing at the same time (all that lavender). Maybe I will get a decant just to have around.
I still have that on my jacket cuff from a spritz at Sephora several weeks ago! Cozy drydown but I wish the top notes lasted longer.
The heel of that boot bothers me. I feel like it’s detachable or something.
I’m in Dior Homme and wearing a sweater cardigan over a cotton sweater because it’s chilly in the office.
I really liked the boot, until I saw the heel.
The boot is fine (except I’m not a fan of pink), but yeah, the heel… I get that it’s meant to be stylish and different, but I wonder if the feeling of unrest I get from looking at it is deliberate on the designer’s part.
I get a feeling of unrest from looking at them also. However, I know it’s because I lusted after a pair of boots not unlike these…when I was about twelve.
There, there… we all have style nightmares come back to haunt us. 😉
Oh I love it. Not for me personally…. my ginormous grey sweats and lumpy old sweaters not withstanding…
Grey sweats and lumpy old sweaters are the most treasured and beloved items of my wardrobe! I was just thinking it’s going to rain this weekend and it would be so comfy to wear them on the sofa with a hot chocolate…
Yes, exactly. It looks wrong. Sort of hoofy.
Yes! I totally get that feeling about it too.
Me as well! It’s really clunky. I think there was an error made at the boot factory but they shipped them anyway and said… “Let’s see what happens”… I get that feeling with a lot of fashion these days. 😉
Mmmmm, Dior Homme. You smell great.
I just saw what your SOTD is and you smell great too! I’ve been wearing that one a lot more lately on warmer days.
He uses that heel on lots of his shoes. I don’t like it either, and haven’t much use for pink patent ankle boots for that matter. But I like the picture 🙂
It definitely makes for a conversation piece!
SOTD is both AG Heure Exquise edp and edt. I was making decants this morning and didn’t really care if I got it all over my hands! It’s also good for our beautiful but cool spring weather this morning. Cheers!!
😀
I’ve never even tried the edt of Heure Exquise but I’m sure you smell wonderful.
🙂
I used up the last of my decant of ELDO’s Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby.
Congrats!! You might like this:
http://www.allure.com/story/empties-beauty-products-trend
I love empties posts! I’ve been running my own ’empties’ program since last November, keeping them so I can toss them all at once on the last day of the month. It’s nerdy, maybe, but so satisfying!
SOTD is Chanel No 22 EDT
This scent taught me a very valuable lesson about not giving up on a scent because the 1st spritz doesn’t appeal.
I HATED my first experiences with 22, so much so that I avoided it for almost a decade.
Then, while travelling, I saw I had grabbed a sample of it instead of my beloved No. 5, and in a “Oh What the Heck” moment, I spritzed it. I got it that day, and I now own a bottle of the EDT, purchased just before the change to EDP.
The new EDP is just as good, I can’t tell the difference and I have the EDT and a sample of the new EDP. Just in case you wanted to know
There are some perfumes that you have to wait to just ‘get’- more experience of world, maybe? I like #22 quite a bit.
Great story!
I had intended to wear Arbole Arbole but was running late and rushed out without applying, so I am compromising with a sample of Voyage I had at my desk. Gosh this is nice, I wish it was still available.
I guess the lesson learned is if you love it buy it when it is available.
I have a FB of Voyage ( last one at Twisted Lily) and would be happy to send you some.
Email me at t f k 3 1 (remove spaces) in the land of yahooooooooooodaughtcaum.
🙂
Oh, that is so kind of you! Emailing you now!
Today I’m wearing JHaG Mad Madame. I really should wear this more. Mad Madame made me realize that I can wear a rose centered fragrance. It is very synthetic, but that’s part of it’s charm for me.
Testing Samsara today. I’m not sure I like it; it’s pretty, it just doesn’t seem like “me”.
Also, I now understand what’s meant by Guerlain-aide. There’s something about Samsara that reminds me very much of Nahema (which I like much better).
If you can, try a vintage formula of Samsara, its gorgeous!
Agreed!
I am a Samsara fan and have an old bottle. Its is my sandalwood bliss
How do you find the modern version?
I’ll add my 2 cents if that’s ok. I think the new version is very good and I think they use a good sandalwood synthetic. But next to the old version, it smells harsher. The “vintage” is smoother, rounder, and more golden to me. There’re always minis floating around etsy and eBay.
I want those boots!!!!! 🙂
Sporting “Citris Maxima” today….(Scientific name)….SOTD is Atelier Pomélo Paradis. Fun fact: It takes 8 years for a Pomelo seed to flower and bear fruit!
Me too! Those boots are awesome!
Pomelos are all over the place in the Caribbean. The rinds make a great addition to jams and make excellent marmalades themselves!
I chose Cristalle EDP this morning and am noticing the magnolia note more than I ever have before – maybe my nose is finally getting trained? In any event, I smell lovely. 😉
I’m wearing Grandiflora’s Queen of the Night today. If it’s taught me anything, it’s wait for the drydown – the opening hour was the most gorgeous floral blend and now (3 hours later) it smells exactly like Eau Duelle. Which I love, so I’m not mad, but I can buy Eau Duelle for a lot less.
SOTD: AA Herba Fresca
This week I did some perfume shopping for a friend. Whenever I wear Chanel No. 19 around this friend, she has loved it, and asked me what was I wearing. I gave her a decant of it, and she has been wearing and enjoying it. Her husband asked if I could purchase the perfume for him to give her for Mother’s Day, and he will reimburse me. I was only too happy to do it. I got to go perfume shopping, and my friend gets her beloved fragrance this Sunday 🙂
That’s so lovely!
🙂
You are a good friend.
The ceo of my household forgets mothers day so this morning I reminded him.
A gentle reminder never hurts 🙂
This story makes me smile. What a lovely set of friends you have!
That’s so very sweet of him…glad he came to you!
That’s what I call “a good friend” 😉
Sweet! It’s nice making perfume marriages.
Oh, that’s awesome!
I wish my husband knew you.
Joining in after a hiatus, though I still read everything. In Alahine today because its raining for the first time in 5 months and it goes well with sweaters, heaters, rain and the smell of wet autumn leaves. This is also a desert island scent though maybe more a one of those cooler isles up north ????
Alahine is a desert island scent for me too
I’m wearing Geranium Odorata by Diptyque. I love this scent, and emptied my sample today, so there might be a full bottle for me sometime in the near future.
That is a nice one. When I recently visited Nordstrom for a sniffa, Geranium Odorata was the Dyptique scent I enjoyed most.
I really like that one, too. I bought the roller ball and really enjoy it when it’s hot and humid out.
sotd = Geisha Vanilla Hinoki
Yesterday was a blur, one of those days when All the Things must be done then More Things pile on. A productive day is rewarding, though I’m looking forward to a slower pace today. GVH is comforting and gently energizing, a perfect balance this morning.
That DvN shoe is oddly appealing in a sculptural, makes-me-pause-and-reflect, museum-piece manner. It might look prettier in motion.
Anyone remember that photo of Dries van Noten and Frédéric Malle together when the fragrance was launched? Charming.
My dad is going in for colon cancer surgery today. My mother had asked me to stay with the dogs today due to the fact one of them is a diabetic and she will need an insulin shot. My mother will be waiting at the hospital. So this morning’s SOTD is Theorema.
Will be thinking of you (and the dogs, and your mother, and your dad) today.
Best luck to your Dad and I hope everything goes smoothly. Speedy recovery for him and enjoy your time with the dogs.
Best wishes for a successful surgery!
The scent is perfect, and the name of the scent is perfect.
Prayers for your dad and you and your family, Dawn.
Best of luck to your dad. I hope everything goes well.
Sending prayers to you and your folks, Dawn. I really can’t think of much better than Theorema and puppies for comfort during rough times.
Yuck. My FIL had that surgery and didn’t enjoy it a bit. Hope it’s as easy as possible and that his hospital stay is short and easy.
Dawn, my best wishes for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. My prayers with your dad and the rest of your family.
Prayers for success and speedy, complete recovery!
Good thoughts and wishes to your dad and family.
Sending good wishes to all of you and thoughts for a good outcome.
I hope everything goes well
Fingers crossed that your dad’s surgery goes as planned, and that his hospital stay is short and uneventful. Hugs to you and your mom.
Best wishes, Dawn!
Sun is shining…weather is sweet, make you wanna move…
Aw yeah, finally…sunshine!

Hinoki. By CdG
AH! jiji you would be a hit here if you sing that song..my oldest loves Bob Marley
I dont think you want to hear me singing 😉
I am not a huge reggae fan, but a Bob Marley song once in a while is healthy for everyone imo!
Brings a smile to my face and has that carefree summer vibe (even though his lyrics are not always that carefree..).

Dilettante, by Hiram Green
(from the 10 ml travel spray….hurray for small sizes)
I am still working (its almost 10:30 PM)
From home, so its not THAT bad (but still feeling a bit stressed, have to finish a lot of stuff before my vacation starts end of this week)
but I decided to log in just to let you all know I REALLY LOVVEEE THIS FRAGRANCE 😀
that’s all folks, now back to work…
Wearing Tauer Orange Star today, desperately trying to conjure up some sunshine in this gray, cold spring.
I have that one as a sample, thanks for reminding me to try it. I hope you weather gets better! 🙂
If anything can conjure warmth/sunshine, it’s that one!
Wednesday!
1) The last of our sunny days for the week- we return to our regularly scheduled rain tomorrow! The past few days I have been a proper flaneur, just walking around and enjoying the beautiful weather and the good mood of the people.
2) SOTD: In Prada Infusion d’Oeillet, from my mini. Perfect for today-spicy carnation + citrus.
3) And I think that since this weekend will be rainy, that I should buy painting supplies and paint, and get ready for painting the ground floor.
Is that really carnationy, or just spicy with pepper, (a poor substitute for clove, IMHO)? 🙂
It feels carnation like due to softness of the prevailing scent- spicy floral, yet subtle.
SOTD: Vol de Nuit extrait.
Keep calm and reek on! ;-0
Wanted something earthy and cozy… and wound up with ‘sort of’. . .
SOTD is AbdesSalaam Attar Patchouli–right now it is too sweet and shrill… hoping it calms down in the next hour.
I’m having a ‘sort of’ week myself. Yesterday, Temps d’Une Fete went wrong on me in the afternoon. Today I had every intention of continuing with spring scents, but then we woke up socked-in with fog so I put on Mitzah for its warmth, but now it’s not quite clicking. Sigh. Perfumista life is haaaaaaard 🙂
Totally. There I was, stumped. Alahine, Mitzah, Coco, or the Patchouli? Which one? Which one? And I chose the Patchouli and it wasn’t exactly perfect. Very haaard!
(Actually, once it calmed down, it was better. Less head shop and more creamy wood…)
I’m in Jasmina on the left, and Nectar of Love on the right, both courtesy of the lovely hajusuuri.
Jasmina has a generous dose of ylang-ylang. I remember having a ylang fragrance as a solid when I was a teen, and enjoying the touch up process during the day. Fun!
Let us know which ones you wind up liking the best. . .
FYI, Nectar of Love was the one I ended up buying, after trying the whole discovery set. I live in a place with more winter than you, though.
Ah, yes, Nectar of Love would be great in cold weather! I’m thinking I need to buy a decant of the Erdenstern when it cools off here…in November. ????
Hi Oakland! I liked Erdenstern the best. It’s very meditative and comforting. Both of the rose fragrances are lovely; I’m honestly not sure which I liked better, Rosenlust or Rose L’Orange.
I was hoping to love Calling All Angels, but it didn’t speak to me, for whatever reason.
Which ones did you like?
I liked Calling too, but my socks stayed firmly on my feet; also Rose L’Orange! I’m on a ‘no buy’ jag for a little while, but Pixel is kindly sending me her sample of Unter den Linden, which was my fave by a long shot. That said, I enjoyed sniffing them all.
Kenzo UFO!
I am SO not into adulting today. I wanted to call out of work for no good reason other than I wanted to lay on my deck and enjoy the weather. I toughened up and here I am, but I chose Frangipani as my SotD in hopes that it would make me feel like I was somewhere tropical and it has indeed helped.
So far from my discovery set, I’ve tried Frangipani, Osmanthus, Sampaquita, Ormonde Woman, and Isfarkand (my guy has tried Ormonde Man). I am in love with Woman and have to have a bottle. My guy wants bottles of Isfarkand AND Man (I will have to steal sprays of the Isfarkand because I love it too) and would definitely not turn down a bottle of Frangipani. Osmanthus and Sampaquita were nice, but not FB worthy for me.
You smell great. Frangipani became a go-to summer scent for me. I bought the travel spray set.
I would love to try more of that line, I had a tiny sample of woman and loved it
In my opinion the discovery set was worth every penny. Every one I’ve tried thus far has been so well done, even if they weren’t “me” and I’ve still got 5 to try I believe. And as I said, we already know we have to have 3 fbs out of the ones we’ve tried haha!
House twins! My faves were Champaca, Frangipani, and Tolu in that order. Champaca is on my theoretical full bottle list.
I loved Woman so much I could have cried haha. And like I said, they funny thing was how my love reacted to the two I mentioned above. He’s worn Isfarkand 3 days straight and I’m not complaining!
I was worried Frangipani would be too white floral (which overpowers me sometimes), but there was just enough other stuff to balance it. I’m excited to try Tolu and Champaca.
Test Day 3 of my new Le Labo travel set. Today is Jasmin 17 which is lovely and I enjoyed immensely for the first 3 hours. However it seems to be disappearing now at rapid speed. Le Sigh.
SOTD – Eva Kant by O’Driu. Can’t decide if this guy is crazy or a genius 🙂
PSA – Osswald has 15% off coupon ILOVEYOUMOM
Robin – a question for you. What happened to reverse split? Would we be having them again – I really liked the idea
Ooh, a reverse split would be great!
I’m fairly new, what’s a reverse split?! I’m sure it’s something I want to participate in haha!
I think it was reverse swap IIRC?
I have a wonderful “modern Shalimar” thing going on today. I’m wearing Shalimar Cologne and the smell of my newish leather jacket. Delicious and au courant!
You smell awesome!
Robin, hope you are feeling as good as you smell!
So happy to kick back with NST comments and lose the news!
SOTD is Box of Eels????
Your doggie is ????????????!!!
Thank you! I think so too, but then, I’m biased????
You zmell great Deva. Please waft some in my direction. ????
*wafting BoE to Petunia* ????
L’heure Bleue. It fit my mood today as work has been kicking my butt. I also received a compliment from a coworker. Since I almost never get complimented on my SOTD, it was quite uplifting. ????
Yay for perfume compliments! You smell wonderful.
I love L’Heure Bleue. I sometimes wear a single soft spritz to my teaching assignments. It has gotten likes from kids and adults.
You smell wonderful.
House cousins in Eau de Magnolia! My 10ml is draining fast, I need to start tucking away for a bottle . . .
Pure Distance Opardu today because our Michigan weather started off chilly and is warming up. The fragrance starts off warm with tuberose and other white flowers and spices, and mellows to flowery powder. I love this. The decant I got is a bad one, squirts bursts of juice, leaks all over…ugh. I see a FB of this in future, if I don’t succumb to the lure of Durga instead. I am interested to try the new Gucci tuberose perfume that is coming out in August, apparently. It has one of those opaque pink bottles I have been lemming for for a long time. Hopefully the juice lives up to the billing.
I read the Gucci Bloom article (mentioned on the NST twitter feed) describing it as possibly the “Most Universally Appealing Fragrance… Ever?” along with Santal 33, Black Orchid, Gypsy Water, Carnal Flower, and Flowerbomb.
Whether that’s hype or not, I hope Bloom is well done.
It could be beautiful, or it could be the most generic BWF ever. Wait and see…
I’m rapidly emptying my second sample of DSH Chinchilla and seriously pondering adding more to my collection. I don’t think I have anything else quite like it and it isn’t worsening my slight headache today. The addition of rosemary (I cut back my huge bushes this morning) is surprisingly harmonious.
I tried Chinchilla last month and could barely smell it (musk anosmia, I think) it but her Foxy was perfect on me.
It’s quiet but definitely present on me. Even lasted through a lousy afternoon at work.
Couldn’t decide what to wear today so went with Cuir d’Ange. Not sure what I’m going to do for Friday yet.
My back fence is done now. Yay! Not sure what kind of wood it is, but it smells really nice. I get a whiff of it whenever I open my gate.
You smell lovely! And congrats on getting your fence finished.
I just sprayed on Olivia Giacobetti’s Iunx Splash Forte, which smells absolutely marvelous at first sniff and has an equally delightful cedar-red color. According to the site, the notes are red cedar, bay rum, peppermint and bird’s eye chilli. I’m skeptical that it will stay this appealing, but if it does, there could be a travel spray in my future.
I think I ordered the decant because of positive reviews on Bois de Jasmin and The Non-Blonde:
http://www.thenonblonde.com/2014/05/iunx-splash-forte.html#.WRNT5xPys6g
http://boisdejasmin.com/2005/06/iunx_10_edts_sp.html
Also thinking I should try more from this line. I thought L’Ether and Eau Sento were OK, but not this interesting.
Completely misread your perfume and got Spanx Forte!
Ha! Extra strength Spanx. Sounds very uncomfortable.
The weather is lovely in Seattle today, so I reached for Le Labo Lys 41. It’s so pretty and long lasting, plus I already got a compliment at work. I believe another NSTer wore it early this week or late last week, so it’s been on my mind ever dumb.
I didn’t have a chance to post yesterday, but I wore Seville a L’Aube. I wasn’t exactly planning to wear it, but I was running late for work and it was the closest decant to me that was weather appropriate. And it made me happy throughout the day whenever I caught a whiff of it.
Hmm that’s supposed to be “ever since.” Not sure how dumb made its way in there.
It made me LOL!
????
Really like Lys 41. If I didn’t already have an overabundance of perfume, I could see getting a travel spray. May spring for the shower gel one of these days (have never tried any of the LL body products).
I hear you on the overabundance of perfume. I bought a 10ml decant of Lys 41 around when it was released, and I still have about 8ml in it. Because of So Much Perfume.
I wore Lys 41 this week. Lovely, indeed. You smell wonderful!
I think it was your comment that reminded me to wear it!
Very good morning, all. I am working at home today, and have sprayed myself LAVISHLY with Beloved. It will have calmed itself into its very beautiful drydown by the time I see the dentist this afternoon, and after that appointment, I will apply more, because why not? The dear man really likes that perfume on me. I’m forever grateful to Kanuka, who sent me her unloved bottle.
So. I’m still loving Narciso’s Rose Musc, something that surprises me, because I bought a bottle of VC&A’s Rose Velours last year and gave it away almost immediately. Oy! What a mistake that was! I loved it on the blotter and in tests, simply hated it later after two or three wears from my FB. I remember taking to endless trouble to get Marnie (not available in A-NZ), and giving up on it too. Hmmm. Is this, in fact, a Lesson Learned, that if I’m going to love a rose perfume, I have to persevere patiently with it?
Be well, everyone.
I think rose is the most difficult of all and i don’t know why. Even beautiful scents like Beloved or Nahema are difficult. And sheer roses don’t solve the problem for me. Enjoy your day and give Dakkie a tickle.
If I’m remembering this correctly, Victoria at BdJ (or another writer there?) hypothesized that it’s because everyone has their own internal idea of what an idealized (real world) rose smells like. So when a perfume doesn’t match up, it seems all wrong.
BTW – thanks for the Kingston Ferry description. I don’t know why I thought it was supposed to smell like a ferry dock (which have a very specific smell – including the Kingston ferry, which I’ve sailed on many times) but it sounds like that’s not where she was going with it.
Your dentist has great taste in fragrance! Mine is at a scent-free environment, which is unfortunate because it smells like antiseptic when it could be something glorious.
And hooray for persevering with Rose Musc, it’s a really pretty perfume!
Hypnotic Poison because it’s morning and I’m feeling sleepy, v…eeee……rrrrrrr….y sleepy.
SOTD finished off the rest of my sample of OJ Champaca. Nice while it lasted.
Maybe you should get a FB…. 😀
Someday…
Encens Mythique d’Orient for me today. I never know how to describe this, but it leapt to mind this morning and seems like just the right thing.
I need to move this bottle closer to the front of my collection, I love it yet never remember to wear it.
love this one!
Ooh one of my favs – need to wear that again soon!
Sprayed myself down in Apres L’Ondee early this a.m. It’s still around at a low hum. On one arm, the drydown reminds me of Esprit d’Oscar (?) but it’s possible that it’s mixing with last night’s Chanel No 5 extrait so not entirely true to itself.
Plan to wear the current Chanel No 5 edt post-shower. Yesterday I pulled out a little sample set of all the No 5 versions circa 2010 or so and tested Eau Premiere, the EdP, then a sample of L’Eau. Ended the evening in vintage extrait. Figured I might as well reek on in the edt today!
Along with others in the PacNW, our regularly scheduled (cold and interminably rainy) spring returns tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that my SSS Voile de Violette arrives today to wear tomorrow, but I know it won’t. But violets and spring rain sounds nice, doesn’t it?
Violets from SSS sounds intriguing – do mention how it does for you when you do get it…
Getting through moving day with a nice dose of Rose Flash. Wish us luck that all our belongings are intact!
SOTD = PHI Une Rose de Kandahar, from the sample stash. Part two of Lucasai’s inspiration. I’m not quite sure how I feel about it, since it starts off very masculine to me. I’d probably REALLY like to smell this on a guy. Alas, Mr. Jalapeno has no interest at all in my “sniffy stuff”.
On the way home from an evening out with colleagues. We had a nice chat over cocktails and small bites at the Lantern’s Keep at the Iroquois Hotel. (Note to self: do this more often)
SOTD = 8-spray La Pausa EDT
+1 spray for good measure. The smoothest iris and beginner leather ever! I’m happy to see a dent in my 75 mL bottle because I have the humongo 200 mL bottle waiting in the wings.
Lesson learned: if your normal per wear sprays fizzle out quickly, add more sprays. Sometines, more is more!
