It's Tuesday, and it's Public Gardens Day, Victory Day and Europe Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Balenciaga Paris, because Glannys reminded me of it yesterday. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Traktir mixed with a little dash of Harney & Sons French Super Blue Lavender.
Reminder: 5/12 will be Lessons Learned Friday...wear a fragrance that taught you something you didn't know about yourself, about fragrance, anything! Suggested by Floragal.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is a Kinto Couleur porcelain teapot for one in Turquoise, about $60 at Amazon (some colors are cheaper).
Still crazy cold here, even the occasionally snowflake is falling. Trying to warm up in Cuir Cannage.
Snow!
You smell so wonderful.
You know your weather is crazy when the Nova Scotian feels sorry for you
Stay warm
It is unbelievable, isn’t it. I am tired of cold weather, waiting impatiently for spring and summer.
Damn! Where you at, Wisconsin? Minnesota? I remember when I went to school there that there would snow up until Mother’s Day!
Montreal. We are about 10C below seasonal average. So sick of cold grey weather! Can you believe it is only 6 weeks until summer??
Ooof! I love Quebec and Montreal but that was definitely one of the reasons I did not move there- winter can hang on like crazy!
And yes, I can believe it! And then BOOM- hot humid sticky summer!
Madison is a balmy 49 today. Lol.
Oh God. *hugs you*
Stay cozy. Hopefully summer will last well into October!
SOTD is Seville a l’Aube
You smell lovely
Thanks, one of my favourites (and a blind purchase…I know, I know…)
I got my bottle in a blind swap – best swap evah! You smell beautiful.
FM dries van noten, no particular reason, just had not worn it in a while.
Nice one!
Ah, maybe that is my Wednesday scent!
It IS my Wednesday scent!
I love Dries Van Noten!
I have never tried the scent- but the boots and clothes are pretty darn awesome!
Oh yes those shoes and clothes!!! I love them (and i can not afford them haha)
Heehee! I know! Neither can I, but every once in a while I will try on some of the pret a porter!
No particular reason can be the best reason of all.
You smell fab!
Love this one, need to wear it again asap. You smell great!
You smell so good.
That is a really nice looking teapot. I love that color too.
Hi all, long time no… post?
Anyway, hope you all are doing well.
I’m in Eau de Merveilles today.
I was wondering where you went off to! Nice to see you and hope you are well ????
Hi! Yeah, life got busy/weird and it still sorta is, but learning to live with it. Had some health issues with myself and the hubs (nothing life threatening or overly bad, just super annoying and taking forever to deal with).
How have you been?
Sorry to hear about the health issues. I hope things start looking up.
Same ol’ my way-work, life, trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Fortunately, nothing troublesome, knock on wood.
LOL! I never did figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up, so I just retired.
Lol. That might just happen to me by default!
So glad to see that you are back! And chicken soup soothes everything.
That it does. The hubs has been making homemade chicken stock for a lot of soup recipes lately
Hey, glad you popped in! Sorry you’ve been busy / ill / everything.
Thanks. Eh, life does that – especially the older you get, which I’m getting quite the reality check for lately. But it’s all good now. Just very slow recovery. Hope you’ve been well.
I’m experiencing life as an older person myself
But we’re both still here, so there’s that!
hi twin! you smell fabulous.
I hope you both are feeling better. You smell great. House twins!
Thanks a lot
Its been a while indeed, hang in there, and you….eh..WE smelll great! Twins
Twin power!
And I, Robin, am wearing your yesterday SOTD, Prada Infusion d’Iris, lavishly sprayed.
By the way, Infusion d’Iris is a lesson learned for me – “always give a scent another chance”. I was not particularly impressed by it when I first tried it, but now I like it very much.
Oh, perfect circle!
Sometimes the ones that don’t immediately impress become favorites. Funny how that works!
You smell great. That’s a good one to spray lavishly.
In my case, I needed to try a different version. I got a sample of (I don’t remember which – the bottle they had at Nordstrom) and it bored me to tears. Peeps here told me I needed to try the Absolue. I did, and I love it.
I still have not tried the Absolue version (seems hard to get here, in Ukraine), but constantly on the lookout for a sample of it. Based on the notes and reviews, it must be lovely.
Commando.
My FIL and hubby came in from a business trip this morning. He told me that he will stay until the afternoon with the babies if I want to go out and will leave at lunch time.
Plan: Cappuccino at my favorite Via Quadronno and will try Tenue de Soirée at AG and then rush home.
Yay for FIL! Enjoy the break!
I had a great mini break!
Went to AG and tried Tenue de Soiree and Passion. One on each wrist so that is my SOTD
What did you think of the AG’s you tried?
I admire how you can just go and smell 2 things ????Whenever I go into a perfume shop, I speed sniff through almost everything!
And I’m curious to know what you thought as well.
Passion was nice on the skin, but I feel like there are other white florals that are just as good or better.
Tenue de Soiree I was not expecting to like at all because I was judging it before trying it, the purple pompom…new bottle..the young woman in the ad. However I ended up liking it a lot. Smells like Iris, fruits and patchouli. It settles really nicely on my skin, the dry down is sweet but not over powering. Anyone else try this?
Elisa P, this was my 4th time to the store to try different things and now that I am off my vacation it will be awhile before I can sniff around ;(
In VC&A Moonlight Patchouli to commemorate Iris Day that was yesterday
SL Rahät Loukoum because I needed support today!
I hope it helps! Sending support vibes your way.
Hope that your day is getting better.
Wearing Bottega Veneta Eau Legere. Leather and gardenia. Easy to wear. Exactly what I need for a crazy, busy day at work.
Love Eau Legere.
Happy Teapot Tuesday! I really like the lines and color of the one pictured today. It’s sleek and squatty at the same time.
SOTD is a bit of Amber Flash body oil in my hair. I chopped a lot of it off this past weekend in a very unprofessional manner and the results are actually nice. I’m a bit astounded.
Forgot to mention I found a bottle of almost empty perfume washed up on the beach on Ocracoke. The label is MIA but there’s still a bit of juice in the bottle. I’m going to guess its Charlie. If anyone thinks they can identify the perfume by the bottle, I have a picture on my instagram- vantasticviews. If I feel daring tonight, I may try to crack it open.
Happy Tuesday to all. ????
Interesting twist on the message in a bottle thing. And I hope you got a fauxhawk!
No Fauxhawk, just a few inches of horrendous dead ends, which are now in the breeze somewhere. Good nesting material for the birds! The first two days, the wind was so fierce it took a decade off my face. I now look 10 years younger due to an organic and natural “sandblast facial.”
Nothing like free dermabrasion.
I hope you’re enjoying the wild beauty and charming village of Ocracoke. Wish I could join you.
After the hellish winds calmed down, it was delightful!
Lately my tonsorial approach has also been the surprise self-cut. Both in planning and results
My approach has been the no-cut. I’m headed to my hairdresser’s next week for my once-a-year cut and highlight (she despairs of me). I know she’s going to try to talk me into whacking a foot or more off so she can donate it. Trying to decide if I feel like that now, or not. Longer hair is actually easier in the summer, it braids better. When my hair is shorter it gets stupid poofy.
Don’t cut your hair!:)
It’s quite liberating to hack it off. It will grow back if you don’t like it. I say go for it! And when you cut off a foot, as recommended by your stylist, you can just progress to the Messy Bun, which is 10 times easier than any braid ever thought to be. Plus, it just looks cute when you look like you’re not even trying. Because, you’re NOT!!
Sadly, messy bun is unachievable. My hair is *thick* and does not wanna bun (‘bun’ on me looks more like a Princess Leia danish, if I’m honest). It just won’t stay put in bun format for more than 10 minutes or so, then it’s on my neck and annoying the crap out of me.
I do hack off a foot or more from time to time. Probably not this time, though
I took off like 9 inches at the end of last summer and regretted it and haven’t cut it since. My hair isn’t that thick but it’s multi textured and wavy and the a-line bob looked poofy from mid down if I didn’t spend 20 minutes ironing it. Long hair is much lower maintenance for me. And it’s a great fragrance diffuser!
I am going to take that approach from now on!
Surfing the sample sea, which is really more of a small puddle since I stopped ordering samples en masse.
SOTD Robert Piguet Calypso which is a lovely powdery, sueded rose and perfect for this coolish day.
I ordered a tiered lipstick organizer with 24 slots for organizing decants and samples and it’s perfect in case anyone needs ideas. It also fits in my drawer, which is a plus.
Lol at “small puddle”!
I think I have fewer than 25 samples(that aren’t slated for giveaway)! Kind of a shocker to me.
Calypso is quite pretty, isn’t it?
I really like it but the little dabber doesn’t do it justice so I did a sample dump. I may need to graduate to a spray decant next.
I have been doing lots and lots of “sample dumps” these days
Satisfying, isn’t it?
yes!!! it really is!
That’s a really lovely scent, actually! You smell great! Be lavish with that one.
Thanks! There wasn’t enough to be lavish, exactly, but I can smell myself, so that’s good.
What a great idea!!! I may have to get myself a tiered lipstick organizer, too.
It was like $7 on Amazon! They have a 40 slot one too. My drawer looks so much neater. Some of my odder shaped/ squatter 10ml decants don’t fit but the standard ones do. I highly recommend!
Used up the last of a sample of Songes.
You smell great!
Only 12 more school days! Will the family make it? Only time will tell….
SOTD: Estee Lauder Pleasures Pop. I forget how easy this one is to wear….
12 days! We still have 30, thank goodness!
25 days of teaching left here
You can do it! Hang on tight!
Le Temps D”Une Fete applied at 6am this morning…gorgeous stuff but very fleeting on my skin…..lasted only two hours so at work I applied one tiny drop of Salome to the top of my hand…nothing fleeting about this one! Now have applied APOM Pour Femme on right arm. So far so good
to the left arm I have added Cuir D’Ange just now.
I was just thinking about Cuir D’Ange yesterday. I haven’t worn it in a while. It’s cozy in the winter but works in warmer weather as well.
I like it….and surprisingly it is lasting
Twins!!!! In Temps d’Une Fete myself, today.
Hey twin!!!
MMM, LTdF.
I just wish it lasted longer on my skin
Hello NST! I’m back a lovely, if exhausting, trip to NYC. Though I had no intention of perfume shopping this time (because really, don’t I have enough?). However when I stumbled upon a Le Labo boutique I could not resist. Having never sniffed their wares it would have been irresponsible not to go in, right? Ended up coming home with a trio of travel bottles (The Noir 29, Santal 33, and Jasmin 17) plus some samples. Wearing The Noir today which I like quite a bit so far. Yesterday I wore Santal 33 for a work trip to Columbus, OH (rather a let-down after the glamour of NYC) and enjoyed it as well. They are not mind-blowing scents but very wearable. Great for work.
I received a sample of The Noir in the swap meet, and I quite like it, too – you smell wonderful.
Of course it would have been irresponsible not to go in! And doubly irresponsible not to buy anything.???? You did well!
You were only doing your duty as a perfumista.
The Noir is my favorite Le Labo (so far)
I have been absent from here for a few days. My mom was in the hospital over the weekend with stomach pains. She was given an IV with nutrients and medicine for pain. Good news, her blood work came back normal and she was discharged, and is now back home.
When I visited her in the hospital, I leaned in to hug her and she said “you smell good, what do you have on?” It was Alaia. I know between my mom and my grandmother, is where I got my love of fragrance.
My SOTD is Prada Candy Florale.
I’m glad your mom is feeling better now.
Thank you
Glad your mom is better. I love smelling friends and loved ones when I hug them and hopefully I always smell nice for them as well.
Me too
Glad your mom is OK. Candy Florale is really pretty.
Thanks. I really enjoy Candy Florale. It is the scent I wore on my son’s wedding day when he got married last year.
The night before my grandmother died in February, I brushed past her and a few seconds later she said, “someone smells good.” (It was me and it was Papillon Salome.)
A month later, my father was revived from cardiac arrest and I wore Alaia when I visited him in the hospital. No one commented on that one! (The group in the room were people who wouldn’t have noticed.)
What a relief that your mother seems to have recovered. Best to you both!
Thank you. What a beautiful memory you have of Papillon Salome.
Glad she recovered and enjoyed your fragrance!
Glad to hear your mom is okay!
The best for your mom. You smell beautiful!
Glad she is doing well!
So sweet that she complemented you
I’m glad your mom is feeling better, and I hope she fully recovers soon.
Hope your mom is feeling much better soon!
Happy to hear that your mom is back home! What a scare that must have been.
It was almost down to freezing temperatures last night but I’m pretending it’s it’s a warm spring day in AG Rose Splendide and a lightweight pale pink sweater. The space heater under my desk is helping with the illusion.
TG for space heaters! I bought a Vornado and it was kind of life-changing
stay warm!
Good morning! I tried to choose a fragrance that honored Public Gardens Day. My first thought was one of JCE’s “Un Jardin” scents, but I don’t own any of them. The only fragrance in my collection with an appropriate name is YSL’s Paris Jardins Romantiques, which seemed a bit too springlike for the current temperature of 54 degrees F.
I ended up going with Patou Câline, one of my great loves. I’m wearing the ’80s-vintage EDT rather than the ’60s-vintage parfum, which I also own and enjoy.
I thought of VP Mito, inspired by a garden in Italy and a favorite for spring, but I had already applied Rose Splendide. Maybe tomorrow.
Day 2 of workshop and of Diorissimo oil, getting my brain in gear before 8 am, spring-y sun, and other well-earned rewards.
How’d your oil turn out?
It’s very quiet, but lasts a very long time
It’s not warm here either. Today I’m wearing Dyptique’s Eau des Sens.
I really like this one a lot.
I do too, you smell great!
In Shalimar Light thanks to an amazing NSTer who knows of my love of the original. It’s pretty much perfect for a sunny spring morning like we are having today! I really love it and wish I had a bottle, but it’s been discontinued I believe. Maybe I can find one in the dark depths of the internet somewhere. I do miss the skanky, balsamic part of the original, but sometimes a lighter Shalimar would be the perfect thing.
The current Shalimar edc is also pretty nice for warm weather.
That’s on my list to buy! I had a little decant and loved it for the warmer weather, but alas, I used it all up. And you can get it for such a good price, too!
I ran out of ideas this morning so I went with tried and true VC&A Bois d’Iris. This never disappoints.
I’ve been wanting to try that one. I did not think I liked iris until ElisaP sent me some Infusion d’Iris Absolue. I had tried ISM and Atelier Cologne’s Silver Iris and didn’t care for either but fell in love with the IdI Absolue. I’m sure you smell great!
Greetings! So today I am going to sing the praises of Kiss My Face Peaceful Patchouli body wash and the moisturizer. These definitely pull to the woody end of the patchouli fragrance spectrum being rather more like cedar and less like patch. Inspired by the oil and lotion blends slathered all over my feet and legs by the wonderful woman who takes care of my feet, I mixed a scant few drops of Aftelier Ancient Resins with the aforementioned moisturizer and it is wood heaven! This blend energized most of my bleak mornings and I would highly recommend it for dry skin and soul lifting effects.
PP is my husband’s favorite-he has both the body wash and the lotion and it smells great on him.
Moon Bloom. It’s very pretty. And it’s tuberose, and yesterday I wore Fracas.
I love your tea blend! I’ve grown very fond of Lavender in tea myself, and am fast going through my tin of MF Earl Grey Provence.
I tested Moon Bloom for the first time last week and it is divine. But my skin picks up all of the coconut and I am not getting the tuberose at all. Not complaining…I like it!
You smell great!!!
The Harneys is nice to have — I don’t love it on it’s own but it adds a little bit of bite to anything that needs it! Very nice with any Earl Grey.
I can imagine. I never really thought I would like lavender in tea, but this MF (an Earl Grey with lavender) has made it very clear that the two go very, very well together. I looked the Harney’s up on the web, and it’s very blue. Does it contain anything other than lavender flowers?
I’m continuing neglected bottles week, with White Diamonds. I remember when this came out and I hated it. Now I like and appreciate it. I used the shower gel too, which is divine.
I had a full bottle of that one when it came out…it was potent….I wore one weekend going out and gave my best friend a splitting migraine!
I love to smell White Diamonds on other people, but I don’t like the way it smells on me. You smell great!
The parfum is really nice.
There used to be an elderly woman who grocery-shopped at the same place and time that I did, and you could smell her all through the store. (Some days there was a very strong soiled-diaper element to it. Bleah. Some days it was glorious.) Haven’t seen or smelled her in about three years now, and I sort of perversely miss her.
SOTD is Histoires de Parfums Ambrarem. It’s a strange one all right. I have to wear it only when I’m not going out or near anyone else. I had it on yesterday too and noticed that toward evening all I could smell was a really nice vanilla. I like this a lot; when you wear it more often, the petrol quality seems less strident and other notes take over and are actually quite beautiful.
Today is my birthday and I ordered the EDP of box of eels.
Commando so far, think I will go with JM dark amber and ginger lily.
Great present to yourself! Happy Birthday.
happy day!
Happy Birthday and congrats on your new bottle!
Happy, happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday and nice gift to self!
Happy birthday and congrats on the BdI!
Happy Birthday!
3 cheers for perfume gifts on your birthday
Happy Birthday Apsara! Beautiful birthday present to yourself. Enjoy it!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Day! ????Excellent choice!!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! Have a wonderful fragrant year.
Enjoy your birthday present and your day!
Happy birthday! Good choice!
Happy scented Birthday! Great choice for a gift perfume.
Thank you all for the birthday wishes!
Happy Birthday apsara!
SOTD: Sycomore
Tough getting up this morning as I was in the middle of quite a dream. On 2nd cup of coffee, and thinking of refreshing it.
Planning a stroll up to the Westfield mall at lunch.. curious about the new L’Occitane scent – anyone try it?
That must of have been one heck of a dream!
It was. I wish I could figure out when exactly to wake up because I feel like I didn’t get much sleep waking up in such a deep state.
Twins – I started off in Sycomore (lovely) though now I’m wearing my sample of L’Etrog (amazing first few seconds then nothing special).
Ninfeo Mio would be good for Gardens Day.
Terre de lumiere? I sniffed on paper and it seemed nice but did not try it on skin. Report back if you do!
I did. The perfume did not work for me. If someone tried it and liked it, that is super! And I bet it performs differently on different skin chemistry. Here’s my experience: I would’ve sworn I got a tea note, but tea is not listed and no one else seemed to smell tea. It went on like crisp (probably bergamot) honey (and a hint of black tea
), and an elegant herbal thing going on in the background… However, on my skin the goodness faded, within an hour, into ubiquitous but really cheap, strong, drugstore musk. The paper sample in my purse became a gag-worthy fabric softener scent.
Thanks for this, my experience as well.
Gag-worthy fabric softener, lol!
The only think I remember is the gimmicky tester strip that turned a into a yellow sunburst. Gullible me thought there was some special substance in the perfume that caused a chemical reaction. Scientific me took an unused strip home and sprinkled H2O; it turned the same yellow sunburst. Case closed.
You are a smarty!
That caught my eye as well.
Some vintage Diorissimo for me today. This is wonderfully soothing. The past few weeks at work have been a horror show and spring in the UK hasn’t really got into its gears yet. Anyway, at last things are looking up! And I’m going to St Petersburg in Russia for the first time on Thursday! Apparently it is still snowing there. I guess I’ll take my Cuir de Russie and Ambre Russe. What else? Eau d’Hiver?
How exciting, from pictures St. Petersburg looks beautiful. Enjoy! Ambre Russe and CdR sound perfect.
Enjoy your trip!
How lovely! What perfumes do Russians wear? I suppose the rich ones in London wear Xerjoff.
Oooh, have a great trip!
Hiram Green’s Voyage?
Have a wonderful trip! Travel safely.
Lucky you!
Bon voyage and safe travels!
Masque Milano Russian Tea?
I believe several gigabytes of secret files are a very acceptable gift these days. ;^)
If you have time for shopping maybe try out the the local brand Brocard.
Enjoy and stay warm!
sotd = Eau des Merveilles because “yay for Merveilles!” and “yes to Hermes!” I’ve missed you, EdM.
I’ve been stalking the many Prada Infusions and lucked into smelling the current Infusion d’Iris along with the first version and they are very close. The one that came along in the middle, not so much, but still nice.
Also, google thinks I subscribe to Vogue and/or like perfume (lol) so it sent me a link-a-dink about how to wear perfume without spritzing:
http://www.vogue.com/article/best-new-perfume-how-to-wear-fragrance-jo-malone-byredo-elizabeth-and-james
Be well and waft on, friends. You smell marvelous.
Hey twin, we smell great.
Thanks for the link! Perfume chewing gum—euwwww!
Hi there, catching up on yesterday’s sotd post, and have to agree, the perfume gum sounds awful.
Chewing gum that releases scent through the skin???. Not so appealing…
agree, gum to skin perfume sounds too strange.
You smell great!
Twins!
‘Ambre Fétiche’ by Annick Goutal.
You smell wonderful.
I’m in the completely un-noteworthy Black Platinum from my Banana Republic sample set… the good news is that it won’t be around long and I can apply something interesting in another hour or two. I’ve got a jonesing for Chanel–maybe Boy or Beige.
Beige is always a good idea
La Danza delle Libellule by Nobile 1942 for me today.
This one taught me that apple fragrances could actually be wearable on my skin
A lesson I still need
Robin, have you tried SSS Equistrius?
Ack. I am pretty sure I did and did not love it. I will have to go dig through my sample drawer to be sure since I’ve stopped keeping a log (and I regret that I stopped keeping a log because my memory is not the greatest.)
Tried out no 5 l’eau yesterday and found it to be icky on me. But my mom loves it and I gave her the small decant. Today I am wearing Feminite du bois today.
The rose note?
I think the citrus aspect made it that way too awful for me.
Ah, okay! I can see that.
I hated the clean-laundry aspect of L’Eau.
Now, Eau Premiere was a totally different experience for me and very lovely. YMMV, as they say.
Awww I love L’Eau! It’s funny how different scents work for different people. Your mom will smell great!
Happy Tuesday!
1) A high of 75F today! Nearly played hookey from work, but alas…
2) SOTD: Infusion d’Amande by Prada(this is from my mini set). This is…rather different. It is a non sweet, non cookie sort of almond scent. Dries down to rich, subtle powdery floral/nutty fragrance. It’s VERY pretty indeed, and you can re-apply without the worry it would be too much. Again, this could be a full bottle worthy scent- perfect for the office- and i mean that in the best way.
I have to try that one eventually!
Good morning, all! I’m matching my garden in many, many sprays of AG La Chevrefeuille, and wishing I’d brought the bottle to work so that I could indulge in many, many more.
Pack your bottle next time!
Isabella, I recently bought a well-priced purse-sized mini of AG Vetiver from one of the discounters. It would be worth a quick Google search to see if they also have La Chevrefeuille or another that you like.
I used to have a bottle of Chevrefeuille that I somehow lost. I miss it. You smell wonderful!
It’s really great stuff — I basically lose control every time I start spraying it…
Wearing vintage L’Air du Temps.
How lovely!
I remember what L’Air smelled like when it came out, or at least I think I do. I tested it in a dept store a year or so ago and was so disappointed. If I could lay my hands on some vintage, I would!
It’s unseasonably cool and rainy here in the desert, so I’m wearing Dzing for probably the last time ’til November.
I have only one IRL perfumista friend; about a year ago I made her a sample from my bottle of Dzing because she’d never tried it. She LOVED it and immediately bought a 100ml bottle. I ran into her over the weekend, and she mentioned that she had just bought a second bottle because her first was all used up. That’s a lot of Dzing!
She’s my kind of girl – I love Dzing! so much. My husband the opening, so I spritz strategically when I know I won’t see him for at least an hour.
Wow, indeed it is!
Since I missed Iris Day yesterday, I’m wearing Prada Infusion d’Iris today. Purple florals abound this week!
The second of three forecasted sunny and warm days before the rain returns. I’m wearing VCA Lys Carmin for a day of plant buying, plant planting, and plant day recovery with a nice glass of sangria.
Oh, that all just sounds lovely. Every bit of it. I am jealous, sitting here in my basement office, knowing that my horse helper got to my house an hour late but didn’t bother to call me.
I want to be home, taking good care of my ponies and puttering in the garden.
Popping in for a quick hello. I’m wearing a refreshing layer of O de Lancôme today in hopes of fooling people into thinking I’m cool, clean, and collected. It’s completely airless and suffocating outside and I feel sticky and horrible and my frizz-prone hair is truly atrocious. I keep closing my eyes and trying to imagine I’m in a tropical jungle but the soundtrack isn’t playing along
Ugh! You obviously are not in PA, where it’s freezing cold. (Not really, but for May.)
Heeley Esprit du Tigre. I like its initial freshness but am wondering if the spiky wood will take over completely later on. Another challenge of this odd fragrance is, when do you wear it? What is the occasion when you want to smell sort of like Tiger Balm?
At the gym?
I have that problem with Patch 24. I have the original version with the weird dentist’s office note – where in the world do I want to smell like that?!? But I do love it.
Or, when you want everyone around you to think you have a headache?
I do like it, though.
I think it would do well in a sauna. I actually like the smell but not sure I’d pay big bucks to smell that way.
This perfume sounds so wonderful I have perfume envy. I imagine wearing it on a long solo trek with a horse and dog across Mongolia or, maybe crossing a high mountain pass in the Karakoram or Bhutan, or being chased by wolves in Alaska. Peppermint for the cold nights and blizzards, camphor inside the fuggy-smelling tent.
I should carry Tiger Balm around and snuff it whenever a fellow passenger passes gas which happens quite often.
Or a vial of tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil
Apres l’Ondee. I poured instead of dabbing from my sample today for a little better projection. I guess Luca Turin called this one of the best quiet fragrances for a reason.
I think it would be beautiful for a spring wedding.
You smell lovely.
Lovely indeed.
SotD is Eau de Merveilles
From a travel mini (i transferred a few ml to a sample spray, because its sooo much better sprayed!)
I tried it for first time almost year ago and I thought did not like it that much…in hindsight, I probably tried one of the flankers hahahaha.
Because this is just gorgeous and so different from the other experience.
So this was a good perfume lesson for me: ‘be mindful which version you grab when you are trying it in a store’
I love that scent. You smell great.
That’s happened to me countless times. It’s always best to check the bottle you directly spray from in a store – take a photo if necessary!
It’s my least favorite time of year as a teacher – state testing time. The combination of stressed adults, stressed and demoralized students and poorly planned logistics has left me crazy anxious and too busy to visit NST except late at night. However, I’m still loving perfume. Today it’s Hiris – I didn’t know yesterday was iris day, so I wore it today. Hello to everyone else in Hermes – you smell amazing.
Those tests really are the worst. The only people who like them are politicians and the companies getting rich off them. Oh, and those who use them as an excuse to not send their kids to a particular school. Strength my friend!
I know I’m uncommon in my opinion, but…I always rather liked taking standardized tests. They were fun! [hides]
My husband loves them and also thinks they’re fun so you have company ????
Whew!!
I’m reading a really interesting book: Adults in the Room by Yanis Varoufakis ( former Greek Finance Minister ). Ties in nicely to Europe Day and I recommend it as a kind of character driven, philosophical, outsider, political/economic commentary. Wearing Interlude while I decide what perfume to wear
Hello, everyone. Bad night = soft warm perfume = Dries van Noten. Oh, but it’s LOVELY! Dakkie has been yodelling almost every night: he wants a friend, like NOW, immediately, straightaway, if not sooner. I think he must wait until we return from our holiday, because a kitten or even a young adult cat needs attention and special feeding and socialisation, but his need is now. Our cat sitter can’t stay overnight at the apartment, so we really can’t get him a friend right now, but you try reasoning with a Siamese. Especially a Dakkie-type Siamese. He just looks at me with his blue, blue eyes, and wails even louder. Oh dear.
To perfume: I smelt Narciso Rose Musc at the weekend, and really like it. In fact, I fear that I like it the way I like Galop. I must stay loyal to my lemming for La Pausa, though. It’s just that to my nose, the balance of rose and musk is really convincing, and ithe bottle, though very large, is awfully pretty. Oh dear….
Gaynor, if you are reading this, I know that we are all longing to hear what you bought on you perfume trip. Could you sweetly do an Donatella and tell us?
Becwell, all.
Back in the Bay Area after a long weekend in beautiful Seattle. Seattle was spectacular! I was visiting a friend who lives in the Wallingford area, which is FULL of fragrant flowers–lilacs and muguets and roses, oh my. Everything was green green green with rich splashes of color. Mount Tahoma rises to one side, and the Olympics to the other, and all that beauty makes even the normally gorgeous Bay Area look drab.
SOTD is Tabac Aurea to help me get through packing. Tomorrow is moving day! We checked out the new apartment last night, and the ceilings are SO HIGH!!! I’m very excited. However, the giant cast on my right leg, which is meant to encourage the healing of a fractured sesamoid, is really making packing much more difficult.
Tabac Aurea is just so good. (And I love high ceilings. The ones in our house are 9.5′ high… my grandmother’s 1860 house had 12-foot ceilings. And transoms over the doors, for ventilation.)
It’s a goal of mine to get the PNW before I kick the bucket- it looks so lovely!
Mine, too. I can’t believe I’ve never been with all my years spent in the West Coast.
I missed the cast story but I wish you a speedy recovery!
I’ve been posting very spottily on NST of late, so I may have neglected to mention it. I fractured a sesamoid ten months ago while hiking, but the French failed to catch it due to their distaste for modern medicinal tools like X-rays. I got it looked at in the US last week and was immediately placed in a cast. If all goes well, it should heal in a month or two. It’s possible, though, that since the bone has been broken for so long, it’s gone necrotic and will require surgery. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that that’s not the case, and thank you for your get-well wishes!
Wearing Shalimar…Mexique from a sample from a generous NSTer. Guerlain puts iris in everything so I’m safe.
Duh! That was yesterday! I was thinking it was the Friday project. ::smacks head::
What??
????
Spritz of J’Adore Eau Lumiere EdT from a Sephora mailer. Only a tiny bit, but it’s actually quite pretty. I admit I’ve never tried the original.
Waited all morning for my latest perfume shopping parcel to arrive (and you all know how much anticipation that evokes), and am now awash in Hermes Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. As with most of the Jardins I’ve tried, this one is quite floaty and high-pitched in the beginning. Good for warm weather, though I am hoping the scent itself warms up a little bit. If it doesn’t, I guess I can anchor it down with some of the Shalimar I bought…..
They finally moved Mom from the hospital where she had her spine surgery to the rehab center. She’s settled in, and it’s about ten minutes’ drive from their house. She called me this morning to ask if I would go help my dad do laundry (!!!) this week.
Today The CEO and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. I’m wearing Chanel 1932 edp, which lacks the sparkly opening of the edt but has a more substantial drydown that reminds me quite a bit of a lightweight 31 Rue Cambon.
VERY happy anniversary to you, and so glad your Mom is out of the hospital and on her way to a hopefully quick recovery.
Time for dad to learn to do laundry!
Happy anniversary!
Congratulations on your silver anniversary! I’m also happy to hear that your mom is settled into the rehab center.
Happy anniversary! i knew there was a reason I started the day in Un Temps D”une Fete
Happy Anniversary!! 25 years!! Congrats! And best of luck to your mom in rehab????
Happy Anniversary Mals. :^)
Happy Anniversary! Hope you’re doing something other than dad’s laundry to celebrate.
Happy Anniversary!???? Glad your mom is settled in.
Enjoy your celebration!
Happy Anniversary Mals. Enjoy! Wishing your mom a speedy recovery.
Happy 25th anniversary, mals!
SOTD = inspired by Lucasai’s post yesterday, I am trying out Tauer’s Une Rose Chypree from the sample stash. It fits right in with Public Gardens Day, I think. Phi is on deck for later on this week.
Hiya!
Not a fan of Une Rose Chypree myself but you’ll smell fab when you wear Phi
Continuing a week of re-tries and potential lessons learned in SOTD MDCI “Invasion Barbare”.
Top: grapefruit, bergamot and violet leaf;
Mid: thyme, cardamom, lavender and ginger;
Base: patchouli, vanilla and musk.
I always like this spicy perfume and sometime I love it. The lesson I am learning from Invasion Barbare: some perfumes are better bought repeatedly as decants or even small samples. I have several FBs that I have used no more often during 2016 and 2017 than I have worn Invasion Barbare, and that I like about the same, but by golly I spent more money on the FBs than on this one. :^)
forgot to say-
Happy Nurse’s Week and a big thanks to Holly, Deva, Elisa P, johanob and any other nurse I may have forgotten for your service
Awww! Thank you so much! That is extraordinarily kind of you! ????
Nurses rock! Fittingly, I spent the morning in CPR class, so I am all recertified for another 2 years.????
Are you a nurse too? Well then, happy nurses week to you as well!
I don’t think I knew that about you either! I haven’t had to take CPR in like 9 years.
Looks like I’m in good company!
Yup! And thank you!
That’s very sweet if you to remember cm8! Much appreciated ????
you guys are the best!
SOTD = Carner Barcelona D600
Nutty vetiver iris with a vanilla dry down; what’s not to love? I passed this by for several years because the name made me think of WD-40 and no, I did not want to wear WD-40. Lesson learned – Don’t judge a book by its cover.
Geez that sounds lovely. Nutty AND Iris AND Vetiver. Yum!
Vetiver tends to smell nutty to me. Modern Guerlain Vetiver is nutty.
I know the name threw me off too but a good friend of mine loves this stuff so one of these days I am going to get my sniffer on it
