Thursday scent of the day 5/4

Posted by Robin on 4 May 2017 271 Comments

Honey Maid Star Wars

Happy Almost-Friday, and May The Fourth Be With You! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in The Body Shop Honeymania, a contender for the least-worn fragrance in my collection. It really could do more to live up to its name.

Reminder: on 5/5 we're doing May-bee Baby Friday... wear a honey fragrance or one that contains a honey note. Thanks to happy888cat for the suggestion!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Ciel d’Opale, no honey but a lovely golden glow. I have to think hard about the least worn fragrance in my collection, and as usual love your categories. Random use of a Buffalo is still my favourite though.

    Are you feeling better Robin?

All of my symptoms are gone except tired, which seems to come and go. Mon & Tues I had more energy, yesterday I was exhausted all day, today I am better than yesterday. But beats what I had last week! Thanks for asking.

Hey, it’s really hard to think of the least worn — if you have a large collection, it’s probably least worn because you literally never think of it. Honeymania would never have come to my mind as least worn, but when I went looking for a honey fragrance, there it was. Not really sure if I’ve worn it since I bought it, so good thing it only cost $7.

Really glad you are mending. It sounds like you still have a bit of healing work cut out for yourself though. One step in front of the other.

I own such a ridiculous amount of perfume that it’s no surprise that I forget about some of it. It’s still not keeping me from an occasional purchase though.
I went through a Bodyshop phase in my early twenties. I was a Dewberry and White Musc afficionado. It seems a long time ago now (and it is)

Glad to hear you are on the mend, and feeling tired is often part of getting better.

Speaking of least-worns, your SOTD inspired a spritz of Ciel d’Opale. And some Cuir de Nacre on the other wrist for good measure.

I loved CdN when I first smelled it and it inspired buying the AG travel set. It’s actually my least favorite in the collection now. It reminds me of another Duchafour – L’AP Traversée du Bosphore, which I wasn’t fond of either. Ciel d’Opale is pretty, though. I tend to think of it as a fall/winter scent but IDK why. It’s perfect for spring.

I will do a comparison at some point.

In Chanel Beige. Great and beautiful perfume to face a super busy day. At work since 5am and drinking now my 4th cup of coffee. Where is Bear? I miss him and his triple-strength coffee. Hope everything is fine with him.

Star Wars!!! I am old enough to remember seeing the original in the movie theatre :(

Well, my intent was to wear Beige today but the heart wants what the heart wants…I am in a cloud of Heliotrope Blanc…I tried it before I left work yesterday and was thinking about it all night….

I may apply some Beige later on my hand just to say I participated :)

Thank you, my dear! My original intent before I got the 300 samples as a bday present was to wear APLS the entire week ( I have a decant sent to me by same generous best friend who sent me all those samples)…I know you love that one, right? I might do a spray of APLS tonight…just for you :)

It was exciting qhen it came out. My folks actually took me out of school early to go see it! Now that I think about it, so out of character for them, but I guess I probably wasn’t missing much in first grade.

What cool parents! My mother took only because my dad refused to go to the movies, considering them a waste of money I guess. I remember her taking me to all the new James Bond movies as well. Not quite appropriate for a child, but I still love the opening sequences/music of the JB movies????

Sounds like your mom was cool. My parents were decidedly uncool-that was a total aberration. We did see a lot of movies, though I don’t remember James Bond. My father did take me to see Rambo which was less cool of him since it was very violent and nightmare inducing.

My dad was the big Bond fan, and although he didn’t take me to see any at the theater, we did some terrific bonding over watching them on TV.

the prices are extraordinarily low on the Pivers…similar to the Berdoues 1902…

            it is this one-

            https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Oriza-L-Legrand/Heliotrope-Blanc-32962.html

the bottles have similarity…but I was eyeballing yours a while ago as I decided when I break my no buy I would be looking for cheap thrills…yours got good comments so it was on my list along with Esprit d’Oscar, Italian Summer Fig and Berdoues 1902….

Good to know that you like the Piver one…it is probably a fifth of the price!

Ah, the Oriza LG. Thise bottles are even nicer! But yes, the LT Piver is inexpensive. I bought it partly because people compared it strongly to Teint de Neige. I find the LT more fliral but they do meet pretty clisrly about midway through

Wearing Jo Malone Star Magnolia. Verdict: a light and simple, far from groundbreaking, but easy to wear lemon-floral-musk. I find it almost identical to Kenzo’s d/c, but still easily found, Eau de Fleur de Magnolia, and as the latter is 1/3 of the price, it would be the more economical way to go if you’re interested in a lemon-floral for summer weather. I think I may give this one to my mom and stick with my Kenzo.

Hope you’re on the mend, Robin!

Serge Lutens Five O’Clock Au Gingembre: tea, ginger, cinnamon and honey. It’s so nice! And the projection is good too: my mother came from another room to ask me, “What’s this wonderful smell?” So I sprayed some on her too. :)

I’ve been on a vintage eighties binge all week and today I’m in the original Salvador Dalí, which is still being manufactured but never was the massive hit I thought it should have been, because it’s so good, one of those colossal eighties kitchen-sink concoctions, a floral oriental with incense, oakmoss, wood, spices, patchouli, and everything else you can think of.

Remember Giorgio Red? (I mean the original, from 1989 — it’s still being manufactured but was reformulated into complete unrecognizability a while back.) It supposedly had 692 ingredients and was pretty much as far as a fragrance could possibly go. No wonder the pendulum swung so hard in the other direction: it’s no coincidence that L’Eau d’Issey and Bulgari Eau Parfumée both came out in 1992.

Good morning everyone! Hope you’re all well. And so sorry to see that you’ve been sick Robin!

Trying again to get back in the habit of checking in with all of you lovely people here during the day, and also back into regularly wearing scent. It’s been a bit odd for me in the past six months because for some unknown reason some of my favorites (which have traditionally been the heavier hitters) became almost too much for me to handle – overstimulating somehow, which was a contributing factor in why I stepped back for a bit. But I’ve just applied a sample from my desk this morning – Keiko Mecheri’s Attar de Roses. Very sweet, but nice, and I like a sweet rose in this sunny weather.

I am slowly but surely decorating my apartment, getting rid of old crap and bringing in selected and affordable new, which has given me so much joy, as has the fact that the place is aaaaallll miiiiiiiine! That pleasure hasn’t worn off yet. *And* I also got to host my first-ever brunch for friends at my home – not something I was ever able to do before! It was delightful. I have a long way to go before everything is as I want it to be, but I’m just happy and grateful about it all.

    Be well today dears!

Well, if you ask a ::cough metaphysical person cough::, they’d say that it’s a) astrological (although the sun flares and energy streaming from the sun are hard science), and b) the Earth’s vibrational rate has increased (also science – the Schumann Resonance) so the feel/energy of the heavier fragrances no longer resonates.

Obviously, this all won’t affect everyone the same way at the same time.

          Sigh… now I’m outed. ;-)

Ahhh… We see how it is now. ;) jk!

But are both of those things occurring right now? Maybe it’s the power of suggestion, but I’ve been feeling the same way about some of my powerhouse go-tos…

          • Rappleyea says:
            4 May 2017 at 1:40 pm

No, this is all part of a much longer process overall. But it may have reached some kind of tipping point. The solar hits have increased lately (last year or so) though.

Hi dear!!! Hope you and the hubby and les kitties are all well! Also – I think randomly losing our taste for the heavy stuff at the same time may make us scent twins all the more.

Yes, I traveled to Europe for two whole weeks and it was amazing. Loved every minute, and came back refreshed and happy. The Black Forest, surprise side trip to Strausbourg in France, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague.

The Honeymania body butter was not what I was expecting either. I actually don’t care for the smell at all and very rarely use it, even though I like the moisturizing properties of the cream itself.

No SOTD yet as I’m coming to life very slowly this morning. After my shower, I will probably slather myself with Amber Flush. This is my first of six days off and I’m planning on having my own private beach breeze sniffapalooza on Ocracoke island starting tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed the weather plays nice.

Hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend! Cheers all!

PPS: POW can be transmitted within 15 minutes of tick bite/attachment, whereas Lyme takes a much longer time to be transmitted, 12-24 hours I think I read. Scary stuff!

I don’t know if any scents that I have with a honey note… I ordered Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey hand cream and body lotion on sale. Came yesterday. At first try of the lotion yesterday, I mostly smelled buttered popcorn, which is not exactly how I want to smell.

The original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back are two of my favorite movies. I dragged my sister out of bed one Saturday morning long ago to see Star Wars in the first showing, to avoid the lines. I saw it twice more that same week. Ended up seeing it five times in the theater. I was kind of a geek….

Beautiful, sunny day here. I have very few honey scents left and my tolerance for very sweet has ruled some out for me so may have to just do a nod with a hand spritz tomorrow.
Today I’m in my newly acquired Melissa Flagg Hawaiian Botanicals Punani (gardenia) which I’m enjoying A LOT. It comes with a screw on bulb sprayer but I decanted some to reapply since it fades after a couple of hours.

Good to see that you’re feeling better Robin!

I’m in Angel taste of fragrance today, such a great scent!

I’m also (on the other arm) unfortunately sampling Hermes Muguet porcelaine and I have the same problem with it as I have with Vanille galant. A fab top note, but under that lurks a thick, chevy tropical fruit note (an overripe banana? Watermelon skins left out in the sun for days?) that feels off and makes me queasy. I usually like fruity but this clash with my chemistry in a strange way.

Walking home last night about 9:15 pm I passed by a small park and was stopped in my tracks by a beautiful scent. I followed my nose to some small trees with wonderfully fragrant white flowers. At first I thought they might be locust trees, but the flowers were more delicate. The overall configuration of the hanging blossoms also resemble wisteria, but wisteria blossoms are heavier. The bark was gray, not thick or heavily textured. Thanks to Google image searches, I was able to identify the tree as American yellowwood, Cladrastis kentukea.

    http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=a270

The scent was somewhere between frangipani, jasmine, carnation, tuberose, and gardenia. Very beautiful, not too cool, nothing odd or strange about it that would place it closer to another white flower that one would recognize.

I had walked that way many times before and never caught the scent. The trees might not have been mature enough yet; they don’t bloom heavily every year; and the weather has to be right for maximum scent. I find a cool, windless night is most favorable. I love following my nose! :)

Oh wow! One summer, my nose led me to a hidden house in the West Hills of Portland, where there was, somehow, a garden full of wildly growing honeysuckle AND jasmine. I mean, the plants were merrily growing all over the place! The house itself was an old Tudor type house. It felt very magical.

What a great story! I love when that happens. Yesterday I was walking back to my office after lunch and was stopped almost dead by a tree of white lilacs that smelled heavenly. They are blooming late this year, but it’s been a cold, cold spring so no surprise.

I’m going to have to see if I can find a tree of American yellowwood sometime!

I think lilacs already bloomed here a few weeks ago, so you still have time to find yellowwood this year if you don’t live too far north for it. I’m in the DC metro area where it’s warm enough (usually) for saucer magnolias and grandifloras.

    Happy Thursday!

    1) Sunshine for a second day in a row! Huzzah! Although we are supposed to get thunderstorms, then a return of the chill tomorrow (boo hiss!)

    2) SOTD: Am trying Infusion Fleur d’Oranger. This is a sort of old school, orange blossom cologne- no sweetness, very refreshing to splash on, very elegant. But would I buy this in a full bottle? MAYBE, even the bottle was bigger so that you could lavish this all over in the hot summer.

    3) Outfit of the day: Khaki slacks, black heeled sandals and my pink fancy people shirt. I can fit in the shirt again! Huzzah! :-)

It is a cool, bright and sunny morning … but threatening another furnace afternoon. I’m in Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger Violette Sacrée courtesy of Clarissa, and it is absolutely the most perfect scent for this morning. It is almost chewy. Chewy violets, not powdery. Maybe candied bitter citrus peel and violets?

I’ve been enjoying Terre d’Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche for a while now, but I’d never tried the original Terre d’Hermes. Happily, my most recent Sephora order came with a sample of the original (perhaps they are making up for the dozens of Daisy samples over the years). Wearing it today – verdict: I like this a lot but I think I slightly prefer Tres Fraiche, which has more cumin.

So interesting to hear about your least-worn fragrance, Robin! I think that’s a good poll idea: what are your least worn fragrances or what are your bottom five fragrances that you own?

My fragrance today is Laboissier Carnation, a sheer, bright, spicy carnation that I find very uplifting. This is a decant I’m trying to use up. My personal program these days is to finish at least one decant per week (I have so many with just a bit left in them). It’s both interesting (giving good wears to some fragrances has been surprising in some cases) and gratifying to thin that herd!

Nectarine Blossom & Honey for the day. Had a strange association with scented markers when I put this one on. Can’t say I like that.

Stumbled across Tokyo Milk lip elixirs yesterday so had to order some since lip balm is my other obsession. Perfumey notes combined with lip balm? Oh yay! I hope they deliver what I’m hoping for though I haven’t loved any Tokyo Milk perfumes that I’ve tried, but had to go for it anyways!

Happy SW day…I am not a huge fan of the movies (though I’ve seen them and i really liked the last one, Rogue One)
but I love the characters and the space ships (I own a LEGO X-wing).

But 4th of May is and always will be Remembrance Day in the Netherlands.

Every year at 8 PM two minutes of silence are observed throughout the whole country to commemorate all Dutch civilians and soldiers who have been killed in wars and during peacekeeping operations since WW2.

And tomorrow is Liberation day. We’ll celebrate the liberation from the German occupation (mostly by Canadians, British, Polish and American troops). It has become a celebration of our freedom and the value freedom in general.

Am in last night’s traces of Angel Muse. Will wear the last of my Au Pays Violette Sacrée sample once Angel Muse has made a final exit. (Thanks, OaklandF for reminding me of VS!)

So Project Functional Kitchen is finished. My mom (with whom we’re living temporarily) has a beautiful kitchen that was completely remodeled 5 or 6 years ago, but rebuilt in +/- exactly the same configuration that preexisted. I think she just threw everything into drawers & cupboards (she cooks and has A LOT of kitchen stuff) without thinking through any kind of organizational system. (Aka, jam it in, and if the contents of the cupboard fall out when you open it, a-ok!)

    Here’s what I’ve done:

    – Moved and reorganized plates/bowls/glasses so that you don’t have to pull out an entire stack of bowls just to take out one (i.e., smaller stacks so you can pull one out with one hand.)

    – Cleaned out and reorganized fridge/freezer, plus the 2 freezers and fridge in the garage. Shuffled fridge shelves around so tall things fit where they need to.

    – Moved knives to a different drawer and installed them in a flat knife block that has enough slots to hold all of them.

    – Moved small hand tools to a shallow upper drawer in a drawer organizer. (They were formerly in a deep drawer that was packed high with everything imaginable so nearly impossible to find what one needed.)

    – Installed drawer dividers in said deep drawers and reorganized larger tools into separated slots.

    – Reorganized plastic wrap/ziploc bags into a large but shallow sliding drawer so they all fit together. Previously they were in what is now the knife drawer, but long rolls of foil, etc. didn’t fit so some were in a cupboard in the laundry room (where they also didn’t fit so it took rejiggering the cupboard every time you needed to pull out a gallon ziploc or parchment paper or what-have-you.)

    – Reorganized large and very tall sliding drawer with square/rectangle homogenously-shaped tupperware. There are 4 or 5 different sizes, neatly stacked. It is a thing of beauty, I have to say.

    – Put drawer organizers in the junk drawer. Now you can find stuff and it doesn’t look junky.

    – Put pans, lids, bakeware, cutting boards, and other such items that were previously stacked on top of each other into vertical racks. Now to get what you need, you just slide it right out. (I found some adjustable racks that you can build to fit your stuff – brilliant!)

    – Completely cleaned out an odd-shaped (long and narrow) closet and built a baker’s rack into it. That’s now where all of the appliances and seldom-used bakeware are stored.

    – Cleaned out and reorganized the (small) laundry room cupboard next to the kitchen. Moved some crap into the garage (which we spent multiple weekends cleaning out this winter); reorganized stuff into bins, and made enough room to store food that doesn’t need to be in the kitchen. (Cases of chicken stock, big bags of flour, sugar, rice, etc.)

    – Put all of the random bags of bulk grains/legumes into air-tight stacking containers. Same with bags of candies, chocolates, nuts, popcorn, etc.

Last few tasks: buy an indoor recycling bin. Right now their bins are outside on the back porch. Inconvenient, plus they get dirty/rained on and I don’t want to have to haul them around. I’m getting a SiimpleHuman brand that uses recyclable liners, so it’ll only be the bags that get hauled out to the alley for pickup.

And last: I managed to find 2 sliding rack storage units (the kind on tracks that you bolt to the bottom of a cupboard) for the area under the kitchen sink. It’s a very deep cupboard but has a bunch of pipes hanging down but I found 2 narrow but long units so the entire area can be utilized. I’ll also put a compost bin down there.

I have no expectation whatsoever that anyone will read even a small portion of this, but it feels like a major accomplishment to have it all done.

Up next: Project Build an Office in the Dining Room That Will Be Completely Invisible When I’m Not Using It But Still Hold Piles of Files, Binders, and all of our Personal Stuff That Doesn’t Belong in a Bedroom.

Love it! I admit I had a good time organizing our half-size apartment when we moved. I definitely have to pull stuff out to get to things, but it’s the nature of the beast here. But there is a spot for everything.

I concur with comments down below. What is it with men who have to leave stuff out and visible? Or can’t see something that is slightly behind something else?

I lived in a 750′ ft apartment with my H & his son for 9 years. That’s a situation where everything needs its own place and organization is critical. I did a rehaul of our kitchen about a year ago so I already had some ideas about how to make this one more functional.

And my husband does those things, too! I try to be tolerant…

Greetings and salutations, NST. I’m not in honey for this cold Friday, because I am chairing the Board of Studies this afternoon and I need a spine-stiffener, not a sweetener, no matter how lovely.. The agenda = 300 pages, the time = 2 hours and the co-operation among board members = 0 . Once I would no-brained my way to No 19 for this sort of activity, but I’m still finding that occasionally her behaviour is unreliable and bratty. I need my perfume to help me focus today, so…..yes, same house, 31 Rue Cambon. Oh my goodness, this is BEAUTIFUL. The dear man has just put his head into the bedroom, sniffed, winked and said, “Aha!” in a meaningful kind of way, but I don’t know what his “Aha!” means. He’s just invited me to lunch out, though, so that’s nice.

Well, I should pootle merrily up the hill in my red boots. Be well and happy, all.

Amouage Journey. A good match for a cold autumn day. I am trying to arrange a visit to a local shoe factory. It was established in 1870 and still going strong. Waterdragon very kindly bought me an Oberon leather journal cover which reminded me of the smell of my school shoes and the smell of shoe shops….which made me think that shoes and shoe shops don’t smell so strongly of leather as they used to. Which raises the question, Why? So, I emailed the shoe factory ( is it the quality of the leather, the tanning process, the source of the leather, the fact that shoe boxes used to be stored on high shelves above the display and not out the back….). They will either read my email and back away carefully from the obvious mad woman or they will be leather freaks…hoping for the latter.

I wonder if it’s partly because shoe soles aren’t made of leather nearly as often as they used to be, having been supplanted by Vibram or other longer-wearing synthetics.

Of all the hundreds of perfumes I own (not to mention samples), I can’t think of any as being “honey” oriented. Perhaps a Serge or two may have some honey in it, so I will probably have to forego the Friday theme tomorrow unless something comes to mind. Today I’m wearing Stephane Humbert Lucas Black Gemstone…great incense among many other ingredients but absolutely no honey.

I have something somewhere that reminds me of honey. But what is it and where is it?

Chance Chance Eau Tendre, just one spray under my shirt.

I am a fan of the Eau Fraiche & Eau Tendre flankers, what can I say :)

Back to the sample stash today. SOTD = vintage Diorling EdT. The top notes are a little off, but boy oh boy the rest of it is fantastic!!

So sorry that Perfumelover67 had a terrible commute yesterday morning. I hope that doesn’t happen to you again. And a hearty “Phooey” on Hajusuuri’s obnoxious coworkers.

Confession time: I have recently bought something for the so-oh-cute bottle. Mind you, I like the perfume itself, but the bottle kind of pushed me to give it a good home. I now own a “kitten-sized” La Panthere Legere. I even “squee-ed” when I first saw the bottle.

Thanks, jalapeño. Today, I was at an alternate work location and oh my lord, I got a triple dose of the selfishness, I also reflected on my behavior today and concluded that I, too, was selfish today.

Today is my birthday. Yes, the fourth may be with me!

I’m wearing some of my new B&BW shea lotion in Endless Weekend, which I like much better than I thought I would. It was a gift, not something I bought and I’m considering adding the shower gel to my arsenal.

And it’s a gorgeous day here near Denver. So despite the fact that I am still cleaning/packing for our upcoming move, I’m happy!

No, but had dinner outside at a favorite restaurant with girlfriends. I’ll consider that a win for the rebel forces!

You smell pretty! That also is my one and only AA. I used to have Lys Soleia too (from a swap) but as it turns out, Lilies and I don’t agree so I had to give that one away.

    SuzyQ reminded me that …

    SOTD = PdE Tabac Tabou

… has honey! It’s a beauty and I really ought to wear it more often. I have maybe 5 mLs left in my bottle. For full disclosure, I split the 50 mL bottle circa 2015 with 4 others. It will give me great satisfaction to finish the bottle even though 80% was due to the split. I’m contemplating a 2017 bottle.

Looking forward to tomorrow as I will be wearing a favorite!
