Argh, it's Monday again! What fragrance are you wearing?
I am traveling today, and I'm commando. (And also, will be offline much of the day, so will not be able to join in the discussion until late.)
Reminder: 4/14 will be Playlist Friday — name a favorite song, and wear a perfume that fits the song.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Jour Du Fete by L’Artisan today and in the spirit of Friday’s project I’m going to use it to scent one of my early favourite songs – Honey Honey by ABBA. Way, way back in Christmas 1977, I got my first record player and ABBA’s Greatest Hits and played it over and over and over. Then over and over and over some more! (I used to warble along and do little dance routines, occasionally performing to an audience of stuffed toys, but we’ll just skirt over that.)
Anyway here’s ABBA performing it in 1974:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7j6OI9TxqzI
And heck, here they are performing it again in 1976:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVOqDMYWoDA
Long live ABBA!! That was my very first concert in the fall of 1979 at the St. Paul Civic Center. I was 11 and my parents, who would have been in their early 30’s, took me. I can still see those leotards in my mind! I still have the concert program, which made the cut when my parents sold my childhood home 11 years ago and I finally was forced to clean out my old bedroom.
Another ABBA fan here
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped ’round my shoulder
I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
Fast Car : Jicky SOTD

SOTD -sycomore
Perfect pairing!
You smell wonderful
When I was in college, TC was a couple of years ahead of me and attending Tufts, nearby to my alma mater. We would raise money for the women’s organization on campus by hosting local student performers in our coffee house, Cholmondeley’s. We asked her a lot because 1. she was great, 2. people would actually pay to hear her, and 3. she said yes to our invitations. We had about four or five students from the area who’d perform for our benefits and their names have left me in the mist of time. BUT…
The summer after I graduated from college I was on a ferry from Naxos to Athens. It was the middle of the night and I had been drinking and swapping stories with other travelers on the boat, when I thought I heard “Fast Car” over the sound system. This of course was impossible as it was a tune by an obscure Boston-area student that she wrote herself several years earlier…. anyway. Needless to say, the more I listened, the more convinced I was that it was indeed “Fast Car.” Amazed by my surprise, my companions assured me that it was Tracy Chapman… I had been in Turkey and then the back roads of Greece for months–and somehow missed her ascension. Whenever I hear that song now I think of that giddy night on the ferry from Naxos.
Ha! I can imagine- “Hey, I know that song! I know that artist!”
Fascinating story
Amazing story!
How wonderful that you knew her before she took off
We listen to a lot of TC in our household, one of my favorite artist
That’s a great story! I’m sure TC would be wonderful in concert, and how exciting that must have been.
My SIL told me about a friend of hers in college, a serious music student who didn’t listen to pop, who wandered in to SIL’s room where she was watching MTV. A 10,000 Maniacs song was playing, and the friend said, in tones of astonishment, “Hey, that’s Natalie Merchant! I went to high school with her. What on earth is Natalie Merchant doing on TV?”
Ha! Amazing story! I love 10000 Maniacs and Natalie Merchant doing her own thing as well. Semi-similar to the Cowboy Junkies who I was also a huge fan of back in the day.
Love Fast Car.
Love that song and you smell great.
I’m going sniffing with a friend today, so I’m wearing Iris Ukiyoe because I really like it and because it will have faded by the time we get ro the fancy mall. I’ve never gone sniffing while on a no-buy, so I hope I don’t find it too frustrating.
If I was to pair this scent with a song it would be “Just the Way You are” by Bruno Mars. Why? I have no idea. But that’s what popped into my head.
Hope it was a fun sniffing excursion!
This weekend I sorted the untried samples I have floating around and got them organized. Most of them are randoms I got with orders or trades and not things I’m terribly excited about trying, but I am excited about the idea of testing them all out so they get used/go in the diffuser/move on to happier homes and I can have a clean sampling slate.
Which is basically all I have to say about this morning’s sample, Atelier Cologne Clementine California.
Oooh. Talk to me about this. You put samples into an electric diffuser?
Yes! I use a Deneve Riverock, just an affordable one from Amazon. It uses water that you’re supposed to drop oil into, rather than pods, so I spray in some perfume/dump in the sample, give it a second for the alcohol to evaporate, and run it. It works great, and is really the only thing (besides wearing it) that feels like it gets real value out of my perfume investments.
The disclaimer is that diffuser instructions are usually strident about using only “pure essential oils.” I did some research and I’m pretty sure that there’s nothing about perfume that’s actually bad for the machine, but ymmv of course. I think even if I was causing the machine a little more wear over time, it would be worth it to me. If I’m not going to be in the room for some time, I turn it off, but that’s as much about getting to enjoy the scent as the safety issue.
Mega doses of FM VE. Doused myself well last night before bed and woke this morning in my sleeping bag surrounded by a cloud of Vetiver-can’t wait to crawl back in tonight!
You smell great!
Thanks! I’m lurve me some veriver!
Your life makes me happy!
By contrast: This AM I sprinted from my heated bed to the thermostat, kicked it on, grabbed a cuppa from our timed coffee maker that had started brewing about 20 minutes earlier, and crawled back under the quilt and waited for better.
Oh sure, a little ambient Kelly Caleche might have wafted about the comforter…
There’s a lot to be said for convenience and creature comfort. Pretty sure you didn’t shower yesterday and find an overly enthusiastic tick look to sink its mouth parts into you! Or have a large green spider drop from the canopy onto you left breast! KC is nothing to sneeze at and quite beautiful and refined. I have fond memories of automatic drip coffee makers. I’ll live a clean and convenient life vicariously through you ????
beautiful….everything….but watch those bears!
T-Rex is very alert to anything and everything. She spotted (smelled?) a mouse in the underbrushand had an absolutely joyous time stomping around the leaf litter trying to track it down. Pretty sure we’re safe from bears here, but if by chance one chases us down, I’m blaming FM. ????
you smell wonderful!
SOTD Prada Infusion d’Oeillet. I love the sheer pepper, carnation and sandalwood cloud. When I asked my husband to sniff my wrist, he opined that it smelled like salt and BO.. not in a bad way though..?
I have enjoyed all the Infusions I have tried.
Cousins – I am in Infusions d’Oranger

People often speak of fresh, virginal OB, but I get a sexy, almost skanky vibe from this one.
Oh! Pretty! Both interpretations!
Good morning everyone. Finally, a beautiful, sunny, warm day today. But with so much sadness and tears it is impossible to enjoy it. My father passed away last night from brain cancer. My mother, sisters and nephew were there with him at that moment. He left just 10 minutes before I arrived at the hospital. I saw him last in the morning and was planning to be back in the evening. I feel I failed him by not being at his side. Instead I was working, which makes my guilt and regrets more painful. It is comforting to know that he went in peace and surrounded by love and prayers. A wonderful man who taught me how life can be enjoyed until the last, even with the smallest things and never stop dreaming. His funeral will be on Wednesday. I will be wearing all these days his Alahine and Chanel No.19 in his memory. To all of you celebrating Holy Week, Easter, Passover, or nothing at all, peace, love and blessings. And thank you for being there.
So sorry for your loss. Take the time to grieve
I’m very sorry for your loss, please don’t feel guilty!
So sorry about your father. And you didn’t fail him, he knew how much you loved him.
I am so sorry.. Peace and love to you and your family.
So sorry for your loss–wishing you peace too.
Sorry for your loss.
You were on your way to be with your father, and that means just as much. I am so sorry for your loss.
All the moments you spent with him before he died are more important than the final moment. Know that you don’t have any guilt to bear – your love was with him even if your body wasn’t. And now that is true for his love too. Hugs.
My condolences, perfumelover67.

Remember the happiness your Father and you shared.
So very sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope your happy memories with your dad replace your grief in time….Praying for that, for you!
So sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Your dad sounds like such a lovely man, and I know you feel his loss deeply. Wishing you peace, love and blessings as well. Big hug.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your beloved dad. You don’t need to be there physically to be with someone spiritually. You love and are loved over space and time.
My mom is gone 6 weeks now, my sister was with her.
My dad gone 10 years this week., I was with him.
Wear fragrances that comfort you, be good to yourself as you grieve. And choose happiness in the small things as you remember through this week.
Sending you peace.
I am truly sorry for your loss. Please, please do not feel guilty. Your father knows your love for him.
I am so sorry for your loss. Hope your perfumes give you comfort this week.
I’m so sorry.
I know you gave your dad so much pleasure by being with him and wearing fragrances he liked these last few weeks, and I hope those memories will stay with you.
So very sorry for your loss. Here is one of my favorite quotes regarding the transition we call death:
Life is eternal, and love is immortal,
and death is only a horizon;
and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
Rossiter Worthington Raymond
Please know that your dad knew you loved him. You have been a devoted daughter to him; we have seen your posts over the last weeks! And your family came together when it was really important, which is a precious gift.
Please be gentle with yourself, dear one.
All I have is love and peace extended to you.
I am deeply sorry for your loss. I know that your father felt and knew your love and devotion, please do not beat yourself up. Hugs to you.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Please don’t feel guilty. You were a devoted daughter and honored him in special ways. I hope you can take comfort in those memories and from the love of your family and friends. Hugs to you xo
I am so sorry. I am thinking of you and yours during this time of grief.
My deepest condolences to you and your family. So sweet of you to wear the scents he loved.
I am very sorry. Thinking of you and your holiday memories with father. You have lots of friends here!
I am sorry for your loss.
Please be kind to yourself.
sending you peace and love with a song that always lifts my spirits…hope it can do the same for you…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLsKWWF94cw
Please accept my condolences. Sending you and your family peace, strength and love. And please dont feel guilty.
I’m very sorry for your loss. Every moment you spent with your father during his life matters. All those moments created the love you had for him, and that love was there in the room with him. Wishing you comfort and peace.
Oh, you poor thing. I’m sorry for your loss and your grieving, and for your sense of guilt. Please don’t be hard on yourself: your father knew you loved him. Presence or distance makes no difference to that knowledge.
So sorry for your loss. Wishing you peace.
So sorry for your loss. Wishing you peace and wonderful memories.
I’m so sorry to hear about your father. I’d like to echo the other comments that it is the time you spent with him over your lifetime that is the most important, not this one moment.
So sorry for your loss. Sending you prayers and wishes for peace and comfort.
My sincere condolences. Remember the moments you shared and that he knew you loved and respected him. Prayers for peace and comfort.
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
So sorry for your loss. Be kind to yourself… the whole sum of a lifetime is what matters, not solely a single moment. Surely he knew your love was present, even if you weren’t.
Please accept my deepest condolences on your dad’s passing. I have been in a similar situation. My dad died when I was away at college, and it took me a while to get my head around that. Do not beat yourself up. Grief has its own rules and schedule.
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved father. May his memory be a blessing. Big hugs to you.
Perfumelove67, your words are a lovely testament to your dad’s character, and rather than failing him, perhaps you honored him by keeping your commitment (as I imagine he might have taught you) to your job… Please try not to tear yourself up with guilt, and know that we all are holding you up in our thoughts and prayers.
So sorry for your loss and please don’t feel guilty for not being there when he passed. Peace.
So sorry for your loss.
Nuit Etoilée by Goutal. It’s crisp and chilly again today. Planned to do a whole lot of stuff, but somehow it isn’t quite happening. NE is nice, and suits the day.
Lovely choice of image by the way, Robin!
Good, I liked it too! And you smell great.
Practice for Playlist Friday
“I need to be myself
I can’t be no-one else
I’m feeling supersonic
Give me gin and tonic
You can have it all but how much do you want it?”
– Supersonic, by Oasis
Mentioning gin and tonic and also the energetic guitar sound-> Voyage, edt, Hermès (from a cute travel mini, removing the cap though is #!?%* grrrr)
That debut Oasis album was the soundtrack to my first year at the university.
Too bad they broke up. I really liked them.
At the dentist again to get a permanent filling for a root canal. Wearing Apres L’Ondee because it’s soft and doesn’t last long. Afterwards I will wear ISM.
Hope it went easily!
Running late (AGAIN) this morning, so went with a no-brainer: Vol de Nuit EDT. Sprayed in a hurry too, so it’s a bit more lavish than usual and I’m in a cloud of it.
You smell classically wonderful!
Catch The Sun. – Doves

Theorema Fendi, and LOTS of it! !!!
Lesson for the kids:
Paul Mitchell Shampoo 2 leaves your mustache and beard sparkly clean and you can drink Triple Strength Coffee immediately exiting the shower with no soapy residue!
You’re welcome.
Carpe Diem.
Peace.
I have so far never grown a beard, but I’m very glad to know this
I’ll tell my husband. In 44 years of marriage, I’ve never seen his chin. It’s as well that I like beards, I suppose.
Glad to hear that your coffee today did NOT have any shampoo additive!
Good morning Y’all….Looks like a beautiful Spring day is in store today! YAY!!
SOTD: Chanel No 5 Eau Première. Feeling elegant and sassy today!
You smell wonderful.
Ah, you smell perfect!
You smell lovely!
Wearing my newest obsession: Byredo Bal d’Afrique! A sweet, rounded lemon + vetiver + flowers + cedar + sunshine. Lovely, happy scent. I could BATHE in this stuff, ya’ll!
Along with Chanel 19 edp and Sycomore, this is my favorite vetiver so far. Just lovely.
I need that!!! It’s been on my “to sample” list for a while. I bet you smell great!
I have a (mostly full) sample if you’d like. Email me at pkwisdom in the land of yahoooo.
Thanks, will do!
A day of appointments and stormy weather for me today. I’m wearing Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming. I really like this one. It smells like a more floral le parfum, and nothing like the Blooming Bouquet.
Around the holidays, I bought a bottle of Aromatics Black Cherry unsniffed and today, I’ve decided, I’m finally going to break that bad boy out…if I can find it.
Will report back later with my findings…
Please do let us (me) know!
Yes! Please report when you can! I have been on the lookout to try this one, but it hasn’t made it to my Belk yet….
I would be happy to send you some…it is a large bottle.
You can reach me at shera in socal (all one word) at gmail.
Yes, please report back. That bottle is gorgeous!
This one is surprising me…
Lots of wood and powder…some amber and pepper and an almost sour cherry and I don’t mean sour in a negative way. It is very dry and not sweet which is the surprising part for me. So many mainstream scents want to whack you over the head w/ sweet these days. Pretty strong sillage too.
Someone on Fragrantica mentioned menthol and I can see that. It reminds me a bit of Tubereuse Criminelle in that regard.
Quite nice…shall weigh in later on the denouement…
In the drydown it is a sweeter cherry w/ almond spice…
Warm sunny day, crocuses popping up=SPRING! Finally! Slumberhouse Sana felt like being worn today so I am green and vibrant to match the season
Yay for the bulbs blooming!
Trying to figure out what scent to wear for lunch with a friend as I am now *reeking* (in a very bad way) of smoke (and this is post-shower)! I got sidetracked and didn’t turn down the heat on a pot of black beans after it came to a boil, and burned up the pot and beans as well as filling my condo with smoke! Thank God for smoke detectors!
Maybe Seville a L’Aube and the incense will blend with the smoke…
Uh-oh.
Hope the smoke passes soon and you can replace the pot.
I can replace it… for the cost of a very nice bottle of perfume. It was a Le Creuset. Might be looking for something a little less spendy.
Le Creuset? NNnoooooooooo…
I’ve done that, but with a fairly inexpensive tea kettle. Le Creuset – ouch!
Oh no! Sorry to hear that! I have done that before and it’s so upsetting! I hope your lunch goes well and you find a nice scent to blend with the smoke.
Well, the black beans are aptly named! Hope the smoke clears soon!
Maybe get a pressure cooker? 3 whistles and it’s done
My hubby DESTROYED a Le Creuset the exact same way! Started some beans and went downstairs for a few HOURS…..UGH!
YES! Thank goodness for smoke detectors!
Thank you all for being so sympathetic. Lunch was great, weather is beautiful, enjoyed my visit, and alllllmost forgot my disaster until I returned home – UGH!! It smells like the nastiest, smokiest bar ever!
Any good ideas for getting the smoke smell out? I’ve got all doors (sliding glass doors) open and a fan running to help. I’m scared to death to light candles as I’m afraid I’ll finish what I started!
What your are doing now (windows open and fan running) is exactly with the fire department did with my then-boyfriend, now husband’s apartment when he had a kitchen mishap. Sorry about your Le Creuset… very nice stuff.
Argh! Should be “you” not your” up there.
Placing a few bowls of vinegar around are supposed to help clear up smoke smells. I remember that from apartment parties when I was young and wild and the place would reek from smoke at the end of the night.
Oof. Le Creuset has a lifetime warranty. I’m not sure if it covers user error, but it might be worth looking into. Bright side? At least it was just smoke and not fire.
The weekend, with its double-digit hours spent on community chorus stuff, is finally over, finally, and I went to bed at 8:30 last night and slept until 7 this morning. YASSS.
I did some whining about it being a pop concert this time — the associated costuming, props, expense of having a band, and renting the local revival theater add up to a massive headache. However, I had decided to make the best of it, and I managed to have fun. And, surprise!, we actually cleared all of our expenses and a little over with the donations. We did so well with it that chorus members are now clamoring to do something similar next year. O_o Me, I just want to go back to singing classical music. @(%&.
I must go mow my clumpy grass now that it has warmed up and stopped raining. Wearing beautiful galbanummy Crown Bouquet.
Oh good, so glad you had fun anyway and raised the money you needed. But sorry if it will change the group.
Orange Sanguine paired with this-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W6-WeMisiw
Great combo and you smell great!
Good morning CM8!
I heard back from Ellen Covey, and the name of her new, as yet unreleased scent is “Chevalier Vert.” So I wasn’t far off with the green horse image… the scent is already fading in my memory, but it was warm and sexy and green without edges… tomato leaf!
thank you so much for following up on this…I am always on the lookout for a great tomato leaf!
Love Coldplay
Me too!!!
You smell great! I almost went with this today to match our weather.
We are finally getting the warm weather I have wanted …78 degrees today…perfect day for Orange Sanguine
Orange Sanguine is one of my favorite colognes. So realistic!
I don’t have the kind of mind that can match a fragrance to a song, but I’m wearing Dame’s Dark Horse. Anyone want to suggest a song that matches?
George Harrison’s Dark Horse….and you smell so so so good!
KT Tunstall’s ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’?
Wild Horses
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSAJ0l4OBHM maybe?
“A Horse with No Name” by America?
A beautiful spring day wearing Tocca’s Colette. Not usually a Tocca fan but I love this one. The opening is bright and lemony and peppery and when it dries for a while, it’s warm and woody. Just lovely. Plus, I love the bottle.
A great song for this scent would be “Another Day in the Sun” from the La La Land soundtrack.
https://youtu.be/CWnYIb2lqpo
Colette is perfect. I also love Brigitte which has ginger, saffron and a panetone note (forgive my misspelling of that one)….it is in the Spice rollerball collection that Sephora sells.
Oooohhh I will have to try that one. I don’t believe I have. The only Tocca scent that I just did not care for was Florence, the rest just seemed sort of forgettable if that makes sense. I’ll definitely have to try Brigitte because that sounds right up my alley!
You smell great. When I wore Gypsy Water recently, I figured out after awhile what it reminded me of: Colette.
It DOES remind me of Gypsy Water! I really enjoyed Gypsy Water but for the price it just doesn’t seem to last and Colette is a great substitute!
Ah, Monday. But it is a warm day, a little hazy, and feels good to be sans heavy coat and shoes without socks. I’m feeling classy in Chanel no 5 edt today.
Someone on another forum bought a bottle of perfume from me and turns out she works a few blocks from where I work so I’ll be delivering it in person and we may possibly make a trip to a nearby discounter, which is where I actually found the vintage Samsara bottle I sold her, and my vintage Shalimar and original Organza Indecence. Such a great little hidden gem, though it’s hit or miss.
Where is this? I need to know
Ditto!
20 w 30th st (bet 5th & 6th). The vintage finds are not a regular occurance but they have really good prices on current mainstream and even discontinued stuff-and no shipping fee!
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
SOTD is Wit. I had the most wonderful weekend in Denver with the Basenotes group. I think one of the highlights for me (out of many) was hearing Dawn Spencer Hurwitz deconstruct commercial scents in Neiman Marcus. She could identify the aromachemicals and I was really interested in some of the oddball combinations. JCE used some interesting ones in the Jardin series.
Oh I would have loved that!
Ditto. I’m nerdy that way.
That sounds like so much fun! I love events like that!
Wit has been on my sample list forever. What’s your take on it? Is it over the top sweet? Over sweet been my only concern and why I keep putting it off :)…
The seminar sounds wonderful!
My 2 cents is it is sweet, not sure about over sweet. Maybe as sweet as something like Songes? I prefer it in winter for that reason.
It is sweet, and so like Elisa P I prefer it in cooler weather. On a summer day I think it would be cloyingly sweet. I could send you some if you like–email me at my username at a oh ell dotty com.
oh awesome, glad it was a good time!
Hi NST family.
I sprayed on some Berdoues Arz El-rab this morning.
It’s nice, fizzy ginger with cedar and some iris. Definitely not a love but I didn’t complain about it over the day.
I love Arz El Rab so I will tell you that you smell great, Lucas.
Thank you. I finally got to try them all at Esxence!
Any others that you liked? Will you be writing any reviews on them?
I liked Assam of India and new Maasai Mara too
OOH…the new one! do you happen to know what the notes are in that one? I thought it might have coffee in the base but there is conflicting information out there….and Assam is great….my full bottle from last summer is now 3/4 empty.
Drained my sample of Dangerous Complicity, which is anything but dangerous. A cozy scent of warm woods, flowers, and perhaps a tiny teeny bit boozy…
All the dangerous complicity of:
Hey, where did we go
Days when the rains came?
Down in the hollow
Playing a new game
Laughing and a-running, hey, hey
Skipping and a-jumping
In the misty morning fog with
Our, our hearts a-thumping
I sing this one to my little brown eyed girl
One of my favorite songs! I’m sure you smell fab!
Have you heard the Everclear version? I *love* that version. Play it LOUD LOUD LOUD!
SOTD is EdM Bleue. Pairing it with New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’ today.
YES to New Order! Last week on an extremely long road trip, I introduced my daughter’s friend to NO, Depeche Mode, General Public, and many others. Should have seen her face. ????????
OMG!!! Depeche Mode…blast from my past
Same here.
That is awesome! I’ve managed to have some influence over my 16 year old’s musical tastes. In addition to the new stuff she listens to, I know she keeps a regular rotation of Smiths, Cure, INXS, NO and DM in her Spotify playlists.????
That’s excellent parenting right parenting right there
And on Monday ???? They’re playing here on Thursday but it’s like $200. Crazy. I saw them out doors at a concert here a few years ago and they were amazing! I’ve seen Peter Hook live many times though in tbe last bunch of years. He’s on bad terms with the ither members of NO so doesn’t play with them.
I bet they were amazing! I love that some of those 80’s bands are still doing shows. Last fall my old college roomie/bff, my husband (college sweetheart) and I went to see Echo & The Bunnymen and they were great! It was so much fun!
Yeah, it’s amazing they still tour. That’s pretty much all we go see, actually, lol. We’re a little stuck in a certain era and genre but there are worse things. And Echo and the Bunnymen are coming here soon and they’re on our list!! I bet they were fun!
Happy Monday!
1) Did testing of Farrow & Ball pink paints on the wall on the ground floor. The colors tested so far: Pink Ground and Setting Plaster. Right now, Pink Ground is in the lead- both can be very lovely neutrals, BUT Pink Ground is very pretty, very soft and subtle; and there is a rosy warmth to it. Because my home is subject to grey light most of the year, that warming hint of rosiness is key and very lovely. Setting Plaster reads as almost darker and peachier in comparison. I am going to observe the changes in light. A note on pigment and texture: the texture is like yogurt, the pigment is deep and persistent, and I was able to cover with one swipe. The cost is $99/gallon.
2) The SOTD: Anatomy of a Fragrance in Wild Fig- very clean, non creamy fig. Very light and fresh for a chilly spring day.
That Pink Ground is a really nice neutral!
It is really pretty- not as ‘little girl pink’ that I thought was going to be! The warmth and subtlety is perfect. I plan on getting modern furniture in rich tones, like a deep cobalt blue, navy blue or dark steel gray, with curtains in blue/gray/pink colors and patterns.
We did most of our house in F&B – great quality paints, long-lasting with subtle colours.
I am really impressed. A huge bonus is no toxic paint fume smell and the drying was pretty quick ( mind you, this was using the Estate emulsion AND a sample area the size of a large piece of paper.
Consumer Reports did a comparison to to Behr paint from Home Depot, but the texture is thinner and has a higher amount of VOCs, and the colors do not have the same rich subtle depth. It’s money well spent, I think.
SOTD is 2Man by CdG. Using the “winter” scents while the warm weather doesn’t make me crave lighter/summery things!
Love 2Man.
SOTD = Carthusia Fiori de Capri EDT, from a little splash bottle someone sent me one time in a swap, or maybe it was a freebie freebie. Anyway, I love this, ( Carnation, LOTV, some Sandelwood underneath, what’s not to love?) I see Luckyscent has the Parfum for what I guess is a reasonable price. Has anyone compared the Parfum with the EDT?
I have a sample of that floating around somewhere. I should retry it.
SOTD: Womanity.
I really like this, yet, I don’t seem to remember the last time I actually wore it. It’s a shame sometimes when our collections grow to big and we forget some beauties we have..
Yes! I am glad I am not buying so much anymore.
An overwhelming number of choices creates stress for me. Picking and choosing from my own collection is a much more soothing process. I enjoy testing, particularly when I’m ready to change into the next season, but it quickly becomes too much for me. So I’m with you – not buying so much any more.
Yes, it is Monday, isn’t it.
SOTD is Amouage “Bracken Man”
Top: bergamot, lemon, cypress, lavender, nutmeg and cloves;
Mid: geranium, sandalwood, cedar and cinnamon;
Base: patchouli and musk.
I sniffed this in a perfume shop at the start of the year and it struck me as very green. On my skin it behaves differently. There is a sort of earthy/ undergrowth smell, but also some citrus, and a big dollop of cloves and woody spices. So as an evocative landscape it is more than a little confusing. As a perfume, it’s different and pleasant and… somehow not very me.
Matching song: Kate Bush “Running up that hill”. The mix of the greenery smell and the old-fashioned gentleman’s fougere for the father figure.
That’s a great song.
Kate Bush is one of my favourite artists ever!
I think I am going to save one of her songs for friday.
I never smelt Bracken Men but seeing those notes I totally get the match with Running Up that Hill.
Oh man. When I was in college, my best friend called to tell me that her mother (an avant garde poet from the Bay Area) had heard it through the artist grapevine that Kate Bush had passed away–leukemia. This was pre-internet so we suffered in silence waiting for the official story to come out… My friend’s mother called back the next day. She had meant to say Kate Wolf. Who?!!! &X#@&%M<! ! ! (RIP Kate Wolf!!)
Love that song!
Showered with Wash Behind Your Ears, which was an impetuous splurge as I was selecting small items for a birthday gift. Followed up with generous application of Ostara. Spring!
Hello, all. Thank you again for continuing thoughts and good vibes to Dakki-Dog-Hoople-the-Cat. He’s eating again, and he has unfurled from his dreadful rigidity, but his dirt box continues to be unused, which is ominous. However, on the plus side, one knitted mouse has been transferred from the sitting room to the hall, which is encouraging, and he came for a big smoochy ear-rub this morning. I’m letting myself feel some hope, just a tiny flickering skerrick of hope.
Last night when I was emailing Gaynor, I remembered about Maharani, so I have sprayed it today, not wisely but very well– oh goodness, I love this! I smell fabulous: warm and female, in a sort of elevated earthy way. Hope my 8 o’clock class appreciates it, but they seem wedded to sharp fruity things, so probably not. Be well and safe, NST.
Oh good to hear Dakkie Dear is perking up just a bit! T-Rex is quite concerned about him. If only he were closer, she’d willingly share her toys with him in an attempt to bring him out of his dark despondent moods ????+????= ❤️
Good news regarding Dakki
Hope is important. So is love. What a lucky cat to have someone who loves him so much!
Good news that Dakkie is showing some improvement, and you smell wondeful
This sounds hopeful!
So glad that Dakkie feels a little better! Poor baby!
Happy to hear that Dakkie-cat is perking up a bit! Hope is a good thing…
Hoping he’s on the mend!
Hang tough, Dakkie!!
I had a fun little perfume rendezvous yesterday unexpectedly. I was in Nordstrom with my husband doing some errands on Saturday and asked the Clive Christian rep to smell the new perfume–(and he actually had some for me that was decanted into a plain bottle). As I was trying, he invited me and my husband to an event the next day. I normally don’t go to those things, but it was a luncheon and FREE FOOD. (and good food!) So since we didn’t have anything going on we said, what the hell, why not? Victoria Christian came and gave a presentation and had us smell the perfumes by fanning them over us. It was actually quite delightful. Who needs blotter cards when someone can fan you? No pressure to buy and I didn’t. AND they gave out samples. I have been to the odd event like this before, and she was by far the best presenter–came off as genuine, she’s a great speaker, and not too over the top.
Wearing V today from an NSTer who graciously gave her little travel bottle to me.
Wow, that sounds wonderful! My own personal fanner? Wow! I never knew people lived like this????
That sounds great fun! ????
How fun!
So cool!
A while back I bought myself a big set of aromachemicals because I wanted to know what these things smelled like, solo. It can be surprising (and sometimes disheartening) to smell them jump out at you from fragrances. Not that I have anything against using aromachemicals! But it’s made me quite cynical of some houses who have loads of PR about ‘natural’ blah blah blah, and then their scents turn out to be ‘just dump chemical Y in a bottle’. At least Escentric is up-front about it.
whoops! this was meant for foxbins.
but your event was cool too
Sounds pretty cool and I’m all about free food ! I haven’t smelled much from that line.
Listening to “Why” by Daniel Spaleniak on Spotify. I was watching “The Path” on Hulu and decided I needed to Shazam this song and find out who the artist was.
Not sure what I’m going to do for Friday, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something.
Also wearing Dune, but that doesn’t really have any thing to do with my musical selection.
Love The Path.
It’s good stuff! They’ve used some good music in the show too.
And now that I think about it, if Daniel Spaleniak’s music were a perfume, it would be something woody and moody, maybe a dry iris of some sort? Iris Cendre might fit.
Oh yes, I love it when shows showcase lesser known artists and give them some deserved attention…and I think your combo of Why and Iris Cedre is perfect.
Rose Barbare layered over an older Guerlain Vetiver today. A wonderful no-brainer for me!
you smell great!
Rose Barbare – that’s definitely one I need to try again. I sprayed it once a few years ago, and recall it was lovely.
This sounds amazing. I will try tomorrow!
Sounds awesome!
Oh this sounds interesting
A bit of an autumn reprieve here, with some mild weather after last week’s non-stop rain. I’m thinking of A La Nuit, since I didn’t manage any jasmine last week.
Wearing Bath and Body Works Freesia (shower gel and body mist). Was trying to pair it with a song when this popped into my head.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE0pwJ5PMDg
Oh. My.
Perfect!! Love her voice and the baby’s breathes in her hair.
I STILL can’t smell. So I’m commando today- but y’all smell divine! And taking notes. It’s Spring!
SOTD = Cartier’s La Panthere EdP. No song to go with this one, just the perfect weather for it.
Initially this morning I couldn’t figure out what to spritz on. Nothing sounded good. So I decided on The Body Shop’s Smoky Poppy, which is very quiet on me. It smells to me like a cross between Opium and Old Spice. I found a bottle this weekend for $2.99!
Binge wearing Lush Lust. And it goes well with my ear worm of the day, Queen I want to break free. Have a nice week!
I finally tried Lust today since I had to stop into Lush anyways. Wow, that first blast was not what I expected…it was like a whoosh of bad breath in my face! Yikes! Now that it has had time to settle, though, it is just lovely.
Late to the party today. SOTD – The Rising Phoenix Poison Fig. Very impressive attar (spicy with some sugar fig), but becomes skin scent after about 8 hours.
Has anyone else tried The Rising Phoenix? I love their creations, and curious to see what other people thing
SOTD was SL Santal Majuscule, thanks to the lovely Laura!
SOTD = Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir
I have a La Goutte Parfumee 20 mL travel spray and its back up arrived last Friday. This perfume is very easy to wear and is refreshing for spring and summer. Neroli, orange blossom and smoky tea (smells like tobacco with flecks of ash) are front and center. I sprayed lavishly (so I did, 8 sprays) and it lasted over 10 hours. At this rate, I’ll finish my travel spray in maybe 20 more wearings. The travel sprays are actually quite a bit cheaper than a FB with that nasty nasty bulb atomizer. My travel spray was $48 for 20 mLs and if I got 4 of them plus shipping, they would come out to $200 vs $260 at retail (excluding tax). I was just in the Guerlain website and I now see a bottle with a screw top but the description still mentions the bulb atomizer with an On/Off switch.
Logging in super late (but still Monday where i am). The last 6 weeks or so have been super stressful; somewhat of a reprieve today so I wore Chanel 19 Poudre to reflect that. Each time I wear it, though, I become more and more disenchanted with the drydown. I love the opening, but it gets dull pretty quickly on my skin.
No song to go with it. Actually, silence is exactly what I needed today.
