Thursday scent of the day 4/6

Posted by Robin on 6 April 2017 254 Comments

Rodin Olio Lusso, video still

Happy Almost-Friday, and happy New Beer's Eve! What fragrance are you wearing?

I've layered Lush Silky Underwear over a drop of Rodin Olio Lusso. Perfect.

Reminder: on 4/7, wear a fragrance with jasmine, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

My first Kilian bargain: Love and Tears, not as iconic as the Lutens jasmins, but very, very lovely nevertheless.

It’s early here and I am still smelling last evening’s application of Histoires de Parfums 1873, Colette. It’s a wonderful orange blossom/citrus scent with warm soft caramel underneath. I didn’t get much of the caramel last night but it’s still lingering mouthwateringly this morning. I have samples of several of those HdP scents that I tend to forget about but was looking around in my drawer for something different last night. My favorite is 1740 but I hate the name, which sort of carries over into not wanting to buy the fragrance.

1740 is my favourite too, I kind of forget the names, and remember the numbers, sort of.

1740 did strike a chord with me though I’m not into the inspiration it is a very fine perfume. My resolve left me and I’ve ordered a 15 ml. I also like that there are 15 ml bottles to be had. Perfect!

The sugary sweet Grape Jelly Sambac Jasmine perfume, Alien Thierry Mugler.
There is simultaneously sadness, and humility and gratitude for my good health, in the passing of someone your same age.
    RIP Ilkka Sinisalo.

My hands are drenched in the last of a decant of Comme des Garçons Skai, which is meant to smell like leatherette and is pleasantly fake, with a sort of aldehydic zing running throughout. I’m sorry to see the last of it (it’s long discontinued): it was probably the best of the Synthetic series.

I just noticed: with the recent rain, it is SO GREEN here in Southwest Virginia that it very well could be Ireland. Perfectly understandable why early Scots-Irish colonists got here and said, “Oh, hey, looks like home. We’ll stay.”

I have had it happen especially with pretty teacups from Anthropologie, mostly the larger ceramic ones. The handles aren’t stable enough to hold the weight, so they tend to last for a year or two. But I do drink a lot of tea and I have a tendency to pick favorite cups and use those every day :-)

It’s cool and stormy here so I broke out the Alien Essence Absolue. It’s even more jasminey than usual since I added a few sprays of SL A la Nuit. I get a lot of compliments when I wear this combination but I think that’s due more to the impressive sillage than the fabulous smell.

SOTD is the very last dregs of my lab bottle of Arielle Shoshana Eau de Parfum. A 239 pound keg of AS EDP is out for delivery here in Virginia this morning, so I no longer need to hoard it! Wearing Tokyo by Kenzo. I figured that while I’m having trouble smelling stuff at the moment I might as well use the opportunity to wear something that I’m just not that bothered about anymore and guess what, I can smell it loud and clear – ain’t that always the case?

On a more exciting note, I had an email from L’Artisan yesterday saying they’ve just re-introduced their body ranges. Shower gels and body lotions in Mure et Musc Extreme, La Chasse Au Papillons, Premier Figiuer, L’Eau d’Ambre Extreme and Timbuktu – https://www.artisanparfumeur.com/UK/body-range.html – just appears to be their UK and European sites at the moment though. How long before I cave…

300 ml in pump dispensers no less! I know they’re now licensed elsewhere now, but I’m hoping they’re as good as they used to be. I have body lotions in Nuit de Tubereuse and Rose Privée, and they’re really luxurious feeling and almost as highly scented as the perfumes themselves!

Trying Dame’s Bergamot, Jasmine & Labdanum for the first time. I’m not a fan. No jasmine here, just a sort of basic air freshener sort of smell. This is the first Dame scent that I haven’t even liked. Most of them are likes and many are loves. I should have worn Dark Horse, which has jasmine in the middle notes.

Dangling from the caboose of the Jasmine Train and holding on for grim life in SOTD “L’Infante” from Divine.

    Top: Ivy and cassis;
    Mid: Ylang-ylang, jasmine and peony;
Base: amber, vanilla, musk and tonka.

I’m all for gender fluidity in perfumes (well, in theory anyway; I’m not exactly a competent practitioner) but this is just a bit girly for me. Very nice though. Can’t help thinking it would be even nicer on someone else. :^)

During this mostly warm and sunny week, the trees in Düsseldorf have suddenly turned misty green as millions of leaves burst out from the buds. Soon it will be warm enough and light enough to go to a Biergarten after work. (It already is for the permies, but we contractors obviously leave later) :^)

I was gonna play along with the jasmine theme, but awoke craving something sweet and fruity. Am wearing a bit too much Isis and smelling like a pineapple smoothie. Now I want a pineapple smoothie.
STC came through (as I expected they would) and said that they are aware of a glitch that seems to be pretty random. I’m just lucky, I guess. ;)

I haven’t made a non-split perfume purchase since last fall so I snagged the newer Amouage and Zoologist releases because I’m so behind on sampling, another l’Heure Fougueuse decant because I adore it but haven’t bitten the bullet on a bottle yet, and a few random things that have been on my list forever. I’m finally planning to sample Rochas Femme properly so I can be a properly informed perfumista. I ordered a sample years ago and it leaked during transport so I’ve never tried it on skin.
        What’d you get?

I’m trying Penhaligon’s Iris Prima today – decanted some of the adorable mini into a sprayer so experiencing it sprayed for the first time. It’s quite lovely, but very subtle. I’m one of those who love iris in nearly all its various forms (excluding only the very carrot-y), and will be contemplating adding a bottle of this to the collection.

I was looking for a jasmine and found a small sample of Durga. I dabbed some on and forgot about it because there was a shiny object in the room.
An hour later I noticed a beautiful rich intoxicating but not sweet floral on my wrist. The orris and jasmine temper the tuberose. Has anyone figured out how to drive with their wrist is stuck to their nose ?

In YSL Cinema today. Very pretty, but a little quieter than I’d like today. Wishing I had dabbed on just a touch more.

Can you all send some positive vibes my way? So stressed about the wreck and car situation-it’s weighing on me this morning. I still haven’t heard whether they are going to total my car or fix it (I’d much prefer total so I can just get a new one). My personality is not one of patience, so all of the waiting around for answers is killing me. And also, I am still sore in various places so it’s a constant reminder. I just need to find a little peace today. Maybe the Cinema will help. :)

This blog is wonderful and such a lovely treat each day. Thanks, Robin.

Positive thoughts for you, Kelly C.
Long story short, driver hit me early March 2015, and though everyone works at their own pace, things do get resolved.
      Preface: I am fine.
Perfume angle: I could smell my Musc Ravageur that I had just applied, as the nurse was cutting off my clothes in the ER. Surreal.
And I will always love Musc Ravageur!
      :D

I’ve also treated myself to some new ‘fume as well…I mean, I did it to support myself emotionally, so it’s okay, right? ;)

Bear, my perfume angle was that i was wearing Baccarat Rouge 540 that day- which I was already loving all day- then after the accident, I could smell it on myself at the hospital and all evening. It totally comforted me. I’m shelling out for the FB ASAP. So glad you are okay now.

Yeah, I wonder if they can’t make them anymore under current IFRA restrictions, or they are too weird for the current target generation. Probably aiming for a wider than niche market now, too, I’m guessing.

But where the heck are all the original scents in the line? Umm hello, L’air de Rien people! Even on the UK site, they are out of stock on most of the older scents…

    1) Late start- second day in a row! I am trying to do lots of things and rushing about after work. Then when I get home, I just collapse into bed, and don’t wake until the birds start to sing outside. OOF!

    2) SOTD: Joy, just a teensy bit. This is the special events perfume. There is a reason why this has endured- it’s absolutely beautiful, and uses jasmine in a rich and sensual way, along with the roses, the tuberose and sandalwood.

    3) Coffee and a Pip’s mini donut. I already had a healthy breakfast on the go of yogurt topped with nuts & raisins.

In the last smidge of my sample of A la Nuit. Contemplating bottle purchase but I really need to cool it for a while.
But it’s so pretty. Argument in my head will continue for a while.

A la Nuit is so beautiful, but so fleeting on me. No more than 2 hours. Once my fb is over (very soon), I have to look for a different jasmine fragrance to replace it that lasts longer.

      Twins!
Though probably not at the same time haha.

I applied mine lightly this morning (2 dabs behind my ear), 8 AM CET, after 2 hours it was gone.
When i spray lavishly I get a 3 to 4 hour wear out of it, tops.
      But its really beautiful!

Yup, I burned mine off pretty quickly too. I got maybe 4 hrs, if I tried really hard to imagine I could still smell it.
Probably why I never sprang for a bottle. I wish I could remember to write this stuff down!

1 spray of Hermes Eau des Merveilles.
Thought it want a match for my skin, but must have been using off samples or something, because my friendly Hermes rep sent me a fresh sample of this one and… i like it!

He also sent me a sample of Galop, which i liked but isn’t me. The quince note makes my nose itch :(

Very good morning, all. It’s turned cool and it’s raining, both good reasons for the wearing of Beloved, as if a reason were needed, beyond its own beauty. I smell a little of powdered florals (mixed posy), a bit more of soft woods, and lots and lots more of unbridled skank. Beloved isn’t lady-like on me (and that’s OK): it suggests behaviour that just manages by a single skerrick, to fall on the side of romance and not downright lust. Well, actually….heavens, but I love this perfume. More importantly, given what it smells like on me, so does the dear man. He’s just suggested dinner out tonight. Works for me!

I love jasmine but am really not in the mood today. Joining any others who may be feeling a teensy bit grumpy, off kilter, missing the breeze…

My oldest arrived in Amman two days ago, but not his luggage. Did this veteran of years of world traveling remind him to pack a change of clothes in his carry-on? No. So poor kid is at day three with the same clothes… And I miss him.

It is cool and damp in not a good way outside. My book is depressing me so I keep putting it down. And I really need to get some work soon.

Day before yesterday I dragged my youngest to see Beauty and the Beast. He went kicking and screaming. I bribed him with sushi. It was not a very good movie. And then yesterday we spend 4 hours at the eye doctor.

    (Insert prolonged whine here)

And this morning, unable to face jasmine or any floral scents, I grabbed something Oud-ish that I got as an extra in a swap. Now I smell like a band-aid. I’ll try to brave my book again.

SOTD = 3 spritzes from a sample of FM Carnal Flower, courtesy of Hajusuuri. Um…. WOW! Wow! And wow! It’s almost photorealistic on me; white flowers growing in a greenhouse, along with a bunch of other stuff. I have been in a happy daze, just sniffing this.

Gi, if you see this, it seems that Fat Electrician is still at Sephora US. I don’t know what happened with my computer the other day, whether it was a caching issue, or if their website “upgrade” does not like the web browser I use. (I suspect it’s my web browser. :P) However I have found some bottles of Fat Electrician for a little less on Amazon and a couple of perfume retailers. Sorry for the scare.

Wearing another amazing jasmine La Via del Profumo’s Tawaf. My oh my, it’s so beautiful and realistic with a really interesting drydown featuring opoponax. Luckily this is strong, ricci stuff so my mini should last me quite some time.

Can anyone recommend other favorites from this line, especially florals? I also have a mini of their ylang ylang one, Tasneem, and it treats ylang ylang as reverently as Tawaf treats jasmine. I know I need to try Mecca Balsam and Milano Caffe still.

Yesterday’s 3 sprays lasted 5 hours. Today’s 5 sprays lasted just about the same and the difference was the extreme dry down was noticeably vanillic! I will try 7 sprays next time and see how it goes!
