Happy Teapot Tuesday! It's also Lady Gaga's birthday. (For your viewing pleasure, or not, here are a bunch of pictures of Lady Gaga drinking tea, plus a conceptual box of Gaga tea.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Vilhelm Parfumerie Harlem Bloom. Tea at the moment is Mariage Frères French Breakfast, mixed with some Upton Assam to cut the sweetness.
Reminder: on 3/31, your pick of Swap Love or Blind Love...wear a fragrance you acquired via a swap, or wear a fragrance you bought unsniffed. Double bonus points for wearing one of each, triple bonus points for a Blind Swap Love. If you don't swap or buy unsniffed, just wear a fragrance you love. (adapted from a suggestion by Pixel)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the Mariage Frères Darjeeling stoneware teapot, in turquoise (€220) and purple (€185), also available in gold and platinum (€510 each).
I want to take a moment to thank all of you for showing your concern during this difficult time. I appreciate your kind words and thoughts.
My beloved cat passed while in my arms Friday morning.
As some of you may recall, I was dismayed by cremation horror stories and reviews online. Bear in mind there is no state or federal regulations anywhere in the country when it comes to animal cremations.
A very dear friend recommended Bideawee in Westhampton. I couldn’t find reviews online but decided to call and make arrangements for Friday afternoon.
My husband and I were greeted warmly. This was a same day and individual cremation. We watched it on a closed-cicuit t.v..
The cremation lasted a little less than 2 hours, the person used 4 different brushes to gather the ashes, very thorough and delicate work.
I highly recommend this place, this the Hamptons and it’s very exclusive. My cat died in peace and I’m relieved we didn’t end up going to one of those places in the City where you drop your pet’s body at a window while given a ticket and told you’ll get the remains by mail in a week. I didn’t want that for her, she was 22, she wasn’t a pet, she was our child.
I am glad it worked out ok and sorry for you loss
So sorry, and glad you found an appropriate place.
What a respectful way to take care of the body. I am sorry for your loss.
So glad you found a place that you felt honored your kitty’s life. I feel the same way about my kittie’s place in my family.
I am sorry for your less and so glad it worked out the way it did. Hugs.
I am glad the process went very smooth. Sending you hugs.
The lilac teapot matches my sweater perfectly today. I’m wearing a blind swap: Gianfranco Ferre Ferre EDP. Funny that I swapped away my FM Iris Poudre and this perfume is VERY similar. I liked IP, primarily the drowdown, but the first few hours tended to give me a headache since I found it a bit raspy. This is all the goodness without the headache(or the hefty price tag)! It’s also by Pierre Bourdon. Interesting how they can take their “recipe”, maybe tweak a note or two, and sell it to someone else. Anyway, thanks to Laurels for introducing me to this one!
Oh gosh! Sorry Vegan Girl. Clearly this is in the wrong spot.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I had a cat die in horrific circumstances at my vet’s office, so you were blessed that she had such a gentle death at home.
Sorry for your loss. Glad the cremation process worked out for you. Yes, pets are family, they deserve a dignified farewell (is that proper english?).
I am very touched by your story. I have a few friends that prefer animals to people… I sometimes understand why. Sending you comfort.
I am so sorry for your loss, and glad that you found such a respectful business to help you say goodbye.
I am so happy that your beloved companion was treated to such a respectful end.
My deepest sympathies
I hope you find comfort in your memories. So sorry for your loss.
I am very sorry for your loss. I have a cat too and I think of any pet as a family member. I am sure you gave your kitty a loving home. Good thing you were treated with consideration at the cremation place.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this with us. I’m happy you were able to find such a thoughtful and caring place.
I’m so sorry about your furry baby, it’s so difficult saying farewell. Hugs to you.
I’m very sorry. From reading your posts, I know you loved her a lot.
I’m sorry for your loss. Thank goodness that you found somewhere appropriate to say goodbye, and I hope that’s some comfort in the days to come.
I’m so sorry. I’m glad you found a respectable place to say your final goodbye.
I just lost my cat a couple of weeks ago. If you find yourself needing to talk, my email is jgbennickatyahoodotcom
I am sorry for your loss. Pets are like family.
I was so sorry to read about your cat, and your concerns about how she would be treated, so it’s lovely to hear that you found such a caring place.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your beloved cat. That said, it’s relieving to hear you found such a caring place for her cremation. I hope you and your husband are doing alright this Monday.
I admire your determination to make a fitting and compassionate plan for your little loved one. Losing a family member is so hard. Hugs to you.
I’m relieved to hear that you found a place that took excellent care with your dearly missed cat.
My deepest sympathies, Vegan Girl. My first cat lived to be 21.5, so I understand your grief at the loss of your longtime family member. I am glad to hear that she passed peacefully and that you were able to find a cremation place that met your standards. Sending you love and comfort as you process her transition!
SOTD Neroli Outrenoir thanks to a swap with tracyo I smell like a delicious tea with a hint of vanilla
Robin have you tried this one?
SipOTD The des Lumières by MF, one of my favorites that I treasure since I can’t find this one in the US
I have not — it’s on my “to try” list but who knows when I’ll find it.
I have liked both of the teas I’ve tried from that Calligraphie collection.
Yum! Smelling good!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying g it! 🙂
Beautiful!
I’m looking forward to trying Neroli Outrenoir – I don’t like all the Guerlains I’ve tried, but they are always worth sniffing.
This one is good, worth sniffing for sure
Accidentally on-theme! I’m testing a sample of Maison Margiela Tea Escape this morning.
I love the burst of green tea and roasty sweetness in this one! You smell wonderful 🙂
Tea twins! we both smell like tea
SOTD Paestum Rose from a swap with a great NSTer. I have been trying to purchase a decant or FB at a reasonable price for month and I am sooo happy to own a decant now 😀
I have a decant of PR, and when the right mood hits, it is just the right thing. I’m not usually a big pepper fan, but something about the dry sharp pepper and the juicy big rose is perfect.
That is such a beautiful scent.
I’m wearing L’Eau Chic, a lovely minty geranium cologne. Great on a summery spring day like today. While the teapots are undoubtedly more useful, I still prefer yesterday’s horse. In spite of the hefty price.
And in all truth I’d way rather have the teapots! But would not pay for either 😉
The Horse has grown on me. It reminds me of the piano-playing dog in the Muppet show for some reason.
Raulph !!
I had forgotten his name but that’s it. He was one of my favourite muppets. Such an enthousiastic piano player.
Elisa P said the same thing yesterday when she posted
Ha! Yes, but different Muppet. I thought it looked like Janice????
I looked up your comment, but I can’t remember Janice, I’m now going to look her up.
L’Eau Chic – you smell great!
As to buying a large leather horse, I’m not in a position to scoff. I once bought a huge (4 1/2 feet tall) teddy bear at a fundraising auction (alcohol may have been involved).
I would need a lot of alcohol to be able to buy that horse, let alone a lot of money. I do really like it though, for some obscure reason.
SOTD: New York 1955.
Drinking now: Roasted Oolong with a few pink rose buds.
You smell wonderful!
I want what you’re drinking 😀
April showers bring May flow……er, wait, never mind.
Crazy thunderstorms with torrential rain this AM, typical for July.
Attar Andy Tauer- non-fecal oudh and a bit of the Tauer ambergris.
Was working on my computer yesterday when I heard my USPS person doing the trying to pass an elephant through the eye of a needle dance with the mail slot.
Gratis Andy Tauer fanzine with a vial/rollerball of my SOTD.
Now that is effective marketing, big boys.
Attar not for sale, but a L’EAU will be in May.
Was I manipulated? Nah, I like Andy and want to support his business.
Triple strength coffee.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
😀
Did you rescue your package or let it squeak through? Now you have me wanting the AT!
I let it squeak through, none worse for wear.
But my mail people could make a postcard sound like they were delivering a car.
LOLOLOL. 😉
😉
Andy is really lovely, isn’t he?
He makes every sale feel like the most important one ever
He is a sweetheart. I got a Tauerzine and a sample too. He is working on releasing the attar, hopefully later this year or next. L’Eau should be out in May.
It was a lovely surprise to find that in the mail yesterday. But someone please tell me which end is up on that sample! I’m afraid to open it wrongly and have the contents come pouring out!
The black is the screw-off top.
Mine had a silver arrow drawn with a Sharpie, this side up !!!!!!
LOL. 😉
Baccarat Rouge 540 for me today. I am LOVING it so hard. I already wish I had a FB, which is unfortunate considering the price. 😥
Isn’t this one fantastic? I am also thwarted by the FB price.. Though if you like other MFK scents as well, there is a fragrance wardrobe set for a relatively tolerable price: 8x11ml travel sprays of A la Rose / APOM pour Femme / Lumiere Noire pour Femme / Amyris pour Femme / Feminin Pluriel / Baccarat Rouge 540 / Petit Matin /
Grand Soir.
Thanks for the tip!
There’s also a choose-your-own-sample set that’s really reasonably priced, and IIRC, free shipping.
You guys are total enablers…
And um, sometimes you can find the smaller sizes offered on their own on eBay. If you want to purchase a set or a bottle of anything from MFK, it’s definitely worth it to check the price offered on their website. This will vary depending on the conversion rate as they’re located in France. Currently no tax, no shipping to the US, and the prices are very good.
You smell great. (Yes, the FB price is a bit…aspirational.)
Super, super busy day and week in front of me. Keeping myself alive by wearing Seville a L’ Aube and drinking my fourth cup of coffee.
Good luck! You smell just right.
You’ll nail it!
Liasons Dangereuse today, lovely and pretty on a chilly spring day.
I need to remember to wear this one more, I’m really enjoying it.
Love LD! I had a decant that evaporated so I am very sad about that.. I’ve always wanted to splurge on a travel refill. It makes me think of summertime.
That one is so nice. I had the travel set from that one and I used it all up. The falcon to put the refill in was so heavy it could double as a weapon
Heehee, they are pretty hefty (as is the price tag.)
Wearing a blind swap today: L’Agent. I like it very much.
I’ve been debating on blind buying this one. What do you think of it?
Hi all,
My SOTD is Alessandro Dell’ Acqua one of my favorite crisp floriental fragrances, it’s got geranium, pelargonium, peony, coriander and sweet pea with a great sandalwood, incense and musky dry down.
I’m sipping my favorite green tea by Lupicia, with floral, fruit and citrus notes, it’s great iced with a squirt of lime but today I’m sipping it warm.
I love that scent, it was a gift from my DH. Very uplifting and cheerful.
Isn’t it? I really get a lot of compliments on it, very refreshing and pretty.
I think they have a more rose-forward version, although I haven’t tried it. Wonder if I could find some online to try…
That sounds great!
That sounds nice. I might have to look into trying some.
Home again with colds. SOTD will likely be a big dose of geranium, lemon and lavender eo’s after I get my shower. Cheers to everyone!
Sorry about your cold. Eucalyptus eo is good for that too.
feel better soon.
So much illness going around! Hope yours is short lived.
Hope you feel better soon!
Wearing a bind swap (or possibly it was a freebie lo those many years ago) of Hermes Eau de Gentiane Blanche. It feels very springy and dapper–I’m wearing it with a multi-color strip button down shirt, and tailored jeans that can be worn to work. I am a female-bodied person, but definitely rocking the menswear/”men’s” scent thing today!
Excellent! EdGB is fabulous, and so is your gender-blending look.
Oh nice. My favourite from that series was Eau de narcisse bleu (and I wear it a lot) but Gentiane was a close second. Still need to try the newest (the rhubarbe and neroli)…
I’m wearing Aedes Pelargonium, a novelty from Esxence. It’s a fresh-spicy fragrance. Starting with crispy geranium it evolves into orris on a woody and spicy base of moss, vetiver and pepper
This sounds lovely! More masculine?
SOTD is Tesoro d’Oriente Sandalo del Kashmir & Vetiver. A pleasantly sweet and green woody scent. Clean and comforting. And a cheapie.
Cheapie is good 🙂
Today is the second to last day of my husband’s radiation treatment. I’m grateful that he hasn’t lost his sense of smell. (His cancer is in his minor salivary glands on the roof of his mouth, and the radiation is to his head and neck). Usually patients like him lose their sense of smell and taste at least temporarily, and sometimes permanently, but his sense of taste is only severely muted, with everything tasting very bland. That makes me hopeful that he might bounce back faster than average. The radiologist told us yesterday that it can sometimes take years for the taste buds to fully recover. My husband loves food so much I pray this isn’t true for him! SOTD is Oriza Legrand’s Foin Fraichement Coupe.
Oh I hope he has a full taste buds recovery! Can’t imagine how hard that would be.
Positive thoughts for a full recovery!
Positive thoughts for your husband. Bless him!
Good luck to your husband! May he be able to fully enjoy food really soon!
I’ll just be happy for him to be able to soon eat without tears pouring down his face! He’s had to really force himself to eat, because the radiation has badly burned his tongue and lips. I had no idea eating could be done heroically.
jirish, I’m an oncology nurse. I hope you’re getting some helpful tips from his healthcare team. Often the focus is on getting calories in, but there are also some easy measures you can take to decrease discomfort and help the healing process. Feel free to email me if the spirit moves you: harukirumi at yawhoo dott calm.
I have spoken to many cancer patients receiving chemo, and many of them say that they experience a strange smell when they are in chemo, and they can’t believe others can’t smell it coming from their skin. It seems quite disconcerting, but it goes away quickly after their course of chemo is complete, thank goodness, so it must be a side effect of one drug or another. I really hope the symptoms your husband is experiencing disappear soon and this becomes nothing more than a memory.
Sending positive thoughts to you and your husband. My aunt had cancer of the salivary glands many years ago, and both she and her senses made a full recovery. I hope your husband does as well!
That’s my favorite kind of story! Good to hear your aunt is fully recovered.
Sending well-wishes to him for a complete remission! 🙂
Wishing him very good luck and a swift recovery! I think sweet comes back first.
What a relief for you both! Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Happy for you both it’s almost done. The burns sound terribly painful-so hard to suffer through that! Wishing him continued and speedy healing.
Wishing the best to your husband. Hugs.
I hope all goes well and you both manage to rest and recover
Wishing your husband all the best.
I wish you and your husband all the best!
That sounds really tough – wishing him all the best
I think your love and support and perfumed presence is a big part of why things are going in the right direction for your dear one. 🙂
My friend went through the same thing and her favorite food now is broccoli, she says the texture is lovely..
Wishing a fast recovery for your husband.
Almost done! Best wishes for your husband’s full recovery.
Best wishes to you both.
I’m trying a swap I received of Dior’s Feve Délicieuse which is a soft, beautiful smoky vanilla, almost amber-y. Very close to the skin and a cuddly but elegant scent. Like it very much! Great swap!
A colleague got engaged this weekend so the first hour & a half of work was a complete wash. Grateful for a work environment where people really rejoice with each others good news.
Ack ! Putting fingers in ears, and hands over eyes.
That sounds lovely, on my to try list.
Enjoy floragal! 😉
Robin, who carries the Dior Exclusives in King of Prussia, nowadays? Thanks for response. 😀
I don’t think I’ve ever seen them there? Or if I have, I’ve forgotten, so no help either way.
Thanks, went on Dior and NYC or Bethesda MD are closest.
Money saved!! LOL
Ah, good to know about Bethesda since I am down there once in a blue moon. But so far, the ones I’ve tried have been nice but not worth the money — to me, and I’m cheap, mind you.
I don’t recall seeing the Dior Exclusives at K of P last year, Bear.
Thanks Jalapeno !
See ^^^ comment to Robin !!!
No blind buying at that price. LOL
That one is yummy!
SotD is Chanel No19, EdT.
From the tiniest splash bottle ever (I estimate it contains 2 ml haha), found it in my mother’s ‘random acquired samples’-stash a few weeks ago.
I have no idea from what year.
More than 30 years ago I had a friend in school whose mother always wore this. So for me it’s a typical ‘mum scent’ (just like No5).
Needless to say, I think its a very nice ‘mum scent’!
I never swapped perfume, and i have only two blind buys. Not going to manage to be on the theme all week. But instead i’ll do “got it from my mom/friend for free” 😉
Was it you who mentioned wanting to try MSN Gelsomino the other day? I found it in a pharmacy today and have some on my hand now and it’s lovely. Slightly green and the drydown turns a bit honeyed.
If it wasn’t you, I’d still recommend it ????
Enjoy the 19! I’m a late appreciator of that one(and no 5), probably from earlier associations as well.
Yes that was me! Thank you, that brand is not very widely available, I know of only one store in the netherlands who has it, and i do not know if they stock this one.
Or else may need to talk my husband into visiting Firenze again this spring. He loves italian food, so it may not be that hard. 😉
…ah, they have a nice store locator on their site. More opportunities nearby. 🙂
Though a visit to Firenze is never a bad idea of course!
Your description sounds lovely, jasmine is one of my favourite scents/notes. Always on the hunt for a good jasmine centred scent.
Next week’s community project is Jasmine, so you can take your favourites out for a spin. :^)
Oh is it?! Yay!!! 🙂
I share my name with this great flower. So I always had an interest in it from a very young age.
I really wish there was a jasmine garden somewhere, where I could compare the different kinds of jasmines. But through perfumes I am slowly learning the difference between grandiflorum and sambac.
I vote for a visit to Firenze! I’m on a similar hunt. This one could be a contender. Some start out well, but I end up not liking the drydown-too much musk or vanilla or something else I don’t quite like.
Yesterday was a blind buy, SJP Lovely. Today is a long ago swap (decant for chocolate) of Marni Rose. I forgot how green, tart and fresh this is. The cherry blossom in my front yard is just starting to bloom!! Loving the warmer temps and spring-like fragrances.
How do you like Lovely?
I have to be patient for first few minutes of Lovely because I get something like plastic, but it changes rather quickly. It’s light and a little quirky. I rarely wear it but am always satisfied when I do.
(I swapped the marni rose with a Kelly…was that you????)
No, it wasn’t. 🙂 I only participated in one swap because since I’m a bit of a newbie, I only have very little to swap! I always eye Lovely, though, because people seem to enjoy it and I love a good bargain.
Continuing with my leather week, and on theme for today: SOTD is Indult Reve en Cuir, received in a swap with Clarissa. Thanks Clarissa!
PSA, the swapmeet is still open, and I still have goodies looking for new homes. Surely somebody wants my 5ml manufacturer’s samples of the two new Dame scents, Earth Mother and Sky Father…!
https://nstperfume.com/2017/03/18/the-swapmeet-episode-10/
I saw yesterday you were testing the new version of CdR? How did you find it. Have you tried any of the other EDP reformulations?
I did like the new CdR — actually I was surprised how much I liked it. So far I’ve tried the new versions of Coromandel, CdR, and Bois des Iles. I’d describe all of them as softer, rounder versions of their old selves. Oddly, they don’t seem much stronger, or longer-lasting, which I might have thought was the goal of doing EdP’s vs EdT’s.
The new BdI did have more projection on me (that’s not saying much, since the old one had little), but the sandalwood in the dry-down didn’t last nearly as long in the new version. The old version might have been a skin scent, but it hung on for more than 24 hours, even lasting thru a shower. The new version was gone post-shower.
CdR is the most different so far, especially in the early phases – more floral, less leather. Very nice. I might need this one, someday.
Thanks for sharing, keep us posted on how they are
So, this week is going to be soooo easy for me, since practically every fragrance I acquire is a blind buy. I don’t have easy access to testers or samples, living as I do in a small, rural town. I depend on reading this blog and other sources for information on a fragrance. Today I’m wearing a favorite, Silences. This is one of the rare full bottles that I bought off of eBay.
Same! I’ve been trying not to, but the blind buy is just so tempting. Also, I don’t think I’ve swapped for something I’ve smelled before more than a handful of times, so a whole weekend of double points will be pretty attainable for me! I feel like decants less than 10ml are probably cheating, though, or I could do this one in my sleep. 🙂
Silences is just So Good.
+ 1
SOTD is Rose de Siwa. I can’t get enough of this scent during spring.
I love that one. I have a decant – worth every penny, if you ask me.
I have a decant too. I’ve used RdS every spring for the past three yeard and I still love it. I may need to buy a FB of this one when my decant runs out. I wish they offered smaller bottles.
Happy Birthday, Mother Monster!
Kenzo Kashaya is my SOTD.
After a morning of very hard work, luching Lebanese food with icy cold draft beer. Life is good!
That does sound like good life — I love lebanese food, and no longer have access.
Happy Tuesday!
1) I had a homeless person camping out in my yard overnight! Apparently, this person cased my house, did not see any lights ( I was out and my housemate was at her job) and thought hey why not. Homeboy had used my grill to cook, and I think he used the port a potty next door where the next house is being built. I kindly told him to leave, and then called the police, who told me that I should had called them FIRST because dude was trespassing. BUT! That would set a cycle of being imprisoned, which is not good. Fortunately, there is an intake center in the neighborhood, which I gave him the address to.
2) In Infusion d’Iris.
3) The adventures of homeownership! Will be doing a good hard workout to calm my nerves tonight. And installing security lights.
When I was young my little girlfriends and I use to play house in a real house being built in my neighborhood. We would go when the construction crew was either at lunch or not there. Bring our dolls and our imagination. When we did get caught by the cops, instead of throwing us in jail, which a lot of cops do these days, they gave us the worst sentence ever: “we are going to tell your parents”
“we are going to tell your parents”
*shudders* That was indeed the worse!
That must have been disturbing on many levels. Glad you are okay and no damage to your property. Sad what becomes of some people. Ugh…
It was a shock, to be sure! This only reinforced the need to replace the privacy fencing later on when we have dry weather, though.
The dude was not in great shape, and it’s not good to be out chilly rain, all the time. I do hope he uses the intake center for help.
Argh that sounds upsetting. But pretty awesome you stayed cool and handled it like that!
Honestly- I was more stunned than anything. Was not really upset and the dude moved along. But I do need to replace my privacy fencing and put in security lights.
Oh my! That sounds quite unnerving. Kind of you to try to help get him to a local shelter. Mental illness is what concerns me the most with the homeless population. Some are really in another world and you can’t be too careful.
Oh yes. Dude was not in good shape but he said he would go to the intake center. And the police will be taking more of a cruise around in the neighborhood.
I’m sure it was unnerving, but I admire your kindness in asking him to leave first. I’m with you on not imprisoning people for “quality of life”crimes. I’m left wondering what he cooked on your grill, though!!
Yeah, Portland Police would have actually tried to imprison for trespassing on private property, and then the dude would have had a place for a little while but then then fined (which the person CANNOT pay) and then still no place and no help.
I am wondering what was cooked as well! It’s a little grill so I wondered if he was trying to keep warm as well?
Today I’m in Balenciaga Rosabotanica. I’m hoping I can bring proper spring to Seattle through sheer force of fragrance alone. I haven’t worn my sample of this in a while and I found the sour petitgrain note in the opening to be pure delight. I might have to buy a whole bottle of this one!
Good luck with that one! If it clears up this week, I know I’ll have you to thank. 🙂
I have a bottle of this that I’d love to send you. I never wear it. email me if you’re interested. madtolive88510 atttt geemale
It has been unseasonably cold, right? I’ve given up hoping for spring and have gone back to wearing winter perfumes. *shrug*
SotD is Hermes Jarden Sur le Nil, lovely spoils from the swapmeet sent to me by kpaint. I’m loving it! It’s fresh without trying in any way to be “clean,” perfect for Seattle’s almost-spring.
That one is my favorite of the Hermes Jardin series. I’ve always found that it manages to somehow balance a watery note with a dry note, which very much gives me the impression of a river in the desert. I don’t know how they did it, but I love it.
Wow, this comment makes me want to retry this. I think I sniffed it once at Sephora, and got not much. Maybe I will try it out on skin the next time I am in there…
For me this one works best when its warm outside, though its not a scent that lasts throughout the day.
Then again, I always thought Jardin en mediterranee (which I also love) was fleeting, but I once had someone compliment me on it 7 to 8 hours after application. 🙂
I find it hard to test perfume at places like Sephora because there’s always so much scent hanging in the air, and on top of that the Jardin scents tend to be really delicate. I’d definitely recommend grabbing a sample if you can and testing it somewhere more neutral.
Yes, thats a great scent, I may need a bottle of it…
Another lovely spring day, unfortunately heading off to spend it at the DMV, but at least I will be smelling good in Silver Iris. 🙂
When I had a little decant of Silver Iris, I always thought it was too sweet for me. Now that my decant is gone, I miss it once in a while…you smell great!
God speed!
SOTD is Jovoy “Psychedelique”.
Top: citruses;
Mid: labdanum, geranium, patchouli, amber and rose;
Base: vanilla and musk.
Best understood as a dirty patchouli/vanilla/amber.
Okay, frog-kissing time. This one turns into a dirty patchouli/vanilla/amber prince. I don’t think it’s love though. ;^)
It’s wet, rainy, gray and cold here. Instead of wearing Kyoto today, I went with no 5 EDP. Got a serious case of dragging butt and something loaded with incense wasn’t going to do.
I’m wearing TM Angel Eau Sucree today, and will leave the house shortly to be with my daughter for a birthday lunch. Her birthday was really last week, but she stayed in the hospital overnight with my Dad. So, we’re celebrating a week later 🙂
Enjoy the birthday lunch!
I’m channeling summer in Caligna. This was a blind buy from a too-cheap-to-pass-it-by sale on Hautelook, when L’Artisan was closing out their old packaging, and fortunately I love it and reach for it often! I like that it takes ye olde standard green fig leaf scent in a non-sweet, herbal direction. This one conjures up hot weather and chaparral-scented breezes for me.
I got a small sample of that from a freebie and it was a such a pleasant surprise! Very subtle, refreshing and with a bucolic feel to it. I could see blasting away when it’s warm out.
That sounds like a lovely perfume! You may have just created a lemming for me. Love fig leaves and herbal scents.
My mom sent me a quick email this morning: “What are your three favorite perfumes? Scents?”
An hour later I finished my reply. That was so much more of a loaded question that she ever could have imagined.
SOTD is Tokyo Milk French Kiss. It smells just like Gucci Rush to me, but it’s a whole lot cheaper. 🙂
*than*
So…what was your reply?
This.
Eau de Merveilles, Mitsouko, and Gucci Rush…followed by a list of about 20 other almost favorites and a list of notes I don’t care for, with a dissertation on white musk and the fall of the house of Guerlain. 🙂
I also added what I’m looking for in my next purchase. She’s in Portland visiting my brother and I think she’s going to The Perfume House. I’m crossing all of my fingers that she was looking for some direction to bring me a souvenir!!
Fingers crossed for you!
Thank you!
Eh, ede reminded us that Le Labo opened a boutique in Portland (Burnside)!
Uh oh. This could be dangerous.
Hope she’s making use of all that data! Keep us posted.
I will!
Ha! Whenever someone finds out I have more than your typical interest in perfume the next question is always, what is your favorite perfume, and of course they get more than they bargained for when asking me this. Fun that you can share that with your mom.
I could have gone on all day…
I’ve been giving her scented gifts for every occasion since I fell down the rabbit hole here. And I bring her samples all the time. While she’ll never be as obsessed as I am, she has developed an interest that I am so grateful for.
Haha yes,
Also, movies. For quite a while I was known as the movie buff/lover in my family/circle of friends. And then people tend to ask: what is your favourite movie? Oh boy there is not one short answer to that question 🙂
You sound like my husband, although he would absolutely say Citizen Kane is his favorite movie and then go on and on as to why you need to know this.
🙂 haha good one!
Yes! I have that problem too! Do you want my favorite movie that never fails to make me happy for the rest of the day? The one that helps me cry when I need it? The one that I can watch over and over and never get sick of? The one that left me in stunned silence at the end? The one that shows the most gorgeous scenery and relaxes me? The one that every cast member should have won an oscar for? I have at least 15 favorite movies. 🙂
???? That is loaded question for a perfumista.
It’s like asking someone who his/her favorite child is….impossible to answer!
Now I’m curious to try the Tokyo Milk. I love Gucci Rush.
It has that same gardenia/vétiver combo. The notes don’t line up identically, but the two fragrances smell the same to me. I’ve been wearing Rush since it came out, and I’m constantly in fear of it being discontinued. I was so happy to find a suitable replacement, and the much lower price tag doesn’t hurt. I hope it works for you too!
My SOTD is MFK’s Celestia.
are you liking it?
Yes, it is pleasant and office friendly and of course as the MFK vibe that lots of his fragrances have. There is a touch of mint in this one which gives it some vibrancy.
Surfing The Sample Sea Day 8! Reeking havoc in:
Ciel de Gum
Bois d’Hiver
Fire Island
Fleurs de Sel
The latter two are playing nicely together.
Encore performance later:
Chanel EDC and L’Eau
Love the havoc you are reeking 🙂
🙂
Wow! You are really going for it! Which one of this set is winning today?
How many samples have you gone through since starting on this odyssey of discovery?
Yep, I’m gonna keep at it every day! Fire Island is really wafting heavily, so I had to respritz the other three. I’ve tested forty samples thus far, so only a few hundred to go! 😉
Oh wow haha.
I wore Fleurs de Sel last weekend (from a sample), liked it a lot.
I do too! But…not fbw.
You are a tank! I’m very impressed with your perseverence.
Thank you!
You reminded me to pull out Ciel de Gum!
It is sunny and warm in Brussels and I’m wearing En Passant for a second day. A colleague came to the meeting room earlier and said: “Someone smells beautiful!” I’m pretty sure it was me 🙂
Couldn’t check in from Rome over the weekend, but I wore L’Attesa for day and Velvet Gardenia for the concert at Villa Medici.
You do smell beautiful!
Thank you!
Any time someone makes comments like that, I assume it’s me as well. 🙂
And with good reason!
SOTD = the always lovely and fascinating Seville a l’Aube, which just suits my chemistry, and gives me a variety of interesting odors over the course of a day. I love how it changes, and yet is always it….
I love that one, you smell great!
🙂
Ditto!
Kelly Caleche EdT for me today. I think I’ll continue this for awhile. Having just acquired this made me less tempted by Byredo Rodeo, which was tested on Sunday. Rodeo is lovely too.
Rodeo! It was great seeing you at Byredo, LizzieB!
I’m in Infusion d’Iris Absolue – a decant from a swap. I remembered to wear this when i wear a blue dress, as suggested by someone on NST recently. I could have also worn a sample of Infusion d’Amande, which is also lovely.
You smell wonderful.
Wearing Vero Perfumo Rozy EDP
This is one of my desert island scents, and I am enjoying the heck out of it.
I am wearing Coromandel edt, my husband told me that I smell great and asked what I was wearing .
What would be the best way to ask a man the name of his perfume, I don’t want him to think I am hitting on him or anything.
Explain that you are looking for a new scent for your husband and then ask for the name. ????
That’s a great idea, thanks
Gucci Envy. I have a 15ml edt which was a blind but on eBay a couple of years ago. Totally worthwhile.
I was thinking about blind buying this one as well since I’ve heard and read some many good things about it. Plus, the LOTV note would be a winner in my home 😉
I thought I’d love Envy — what’s not to love for a green floral girl like me? but I truly, truly hate it. It is aluminum-foil-chewing metallic on me and I’m cringing just thinking about wearing it.
If you never have trouble with hyacinth, you’re probably fine with a blind buy. I probably wouldn’t mind smelling it on someone else, for that matter.
Thanks for that lovely image – not!
Just dumped that one out of my “watch list”
Same here. The scent of chewing on aluminum foil with metal fillings in your teeth feels like a car crash. Yeah, old world problems. 😉
Blast from the past. 🙂 Never had it but i remember liking it a lot. I had a boyfriend back then who wore Gucci Envy for men, that was also very nice and sexy scent.
What happened to Gucci? Nowaydays I am not very impressed by their perfumes.
by Kilian Black Oud today. Last night I was spraying some decants. Black Oud, Rose Oud, Leather Oud, and Oud Ispahan. It was quite the sample party.
Sounds like quite the oud-y good time last night! What’s your take on Black Oud?
I found it to have a very bbq smoky opening, then it dried down to a standard Kilian oud smell.
I really enjoy it–I don’t know that I get bbq initally, for me it’s more like a deep rose-peppery, little-bit-smelly-oud when I first spray and then a sweet oud-y dry down. It is strong, and is a real oud, no pretender here, so you definitely have to be an Oud lover to like it.
Trying out L’A’s Mure et Musc. It’s a pleasant little fruity whisper on me, so much so that I wonder if I’m not anosmic to the Musc portion (I seem to be anosmic to more than my share of musk notes, alas).
That MeM gave me a terrible headache the few times that I tested it.
Jour d’Hermès Absolu for me, another gift from Kanuka. It’s still early autumn here, and it seems appropriate for what looks to be shaping up as a clear day.
Working on using up some decants that have evaporated (that is the worst), so today I’m wearing Majda Bekkali J’ai Fait Une Reve pour Elle. Now it’s called Clair instead of pour Elle on Luckyscent. I really enjoy it and haven’t worn much in this style for a while. It’s a powdery white musky orange blossom with some sourness. It does have a cumin top note, but I’m not getting any of that from my evaporated decant.
I’m wearing three tiny dabs of Cuir Mauresque today. I have found that a full spray is too much, my skin amplifies something and makes me slightly sick if I wear a lot. Now it’s just right.
Me too, I can’t wear it sprayed, it suffocates me, but a few dabs work great.
SotD = Chanel No. 5 edp again after a liberal dousing last night.
Either I’m losing my marbles or experiencing changing skin chemistry. My doctor recently recommended prescription-strength supplements of several vitamins and minerals. After taking them for a few weeks I noticed that a few perfumes have lost some of their oomph.
No. 5 wears very differently now. In the past it did an amazing slow-motion transformation on my skin through the aldehydes, then flowers, and down to the vanilla-plus-more base notes. Now it’s as though I can smell the whole of it all at once, and after a few hours it’s just gone. Still enjoyable, but not the same thrill. The parfum is the same.
Oh well, onward and upward!
Might not be yous kind Might be your smeller….
agree, my nose has been suffering from seasonal allergy distress! 🙂
Meredifay has a good point. It could be your skin, in a whole variety of ways (oily vs dry skin is very much affected by nutritional status, just for one example, so is body temperature, which affects evaporation rate) or it could be your sense of smell, which is likewise affected.
It’s a mystery whether skin or nose or both. Some sleuthing at the perfume counter is in order. Since tester bottles are so easy to find, I’d like to try all the versions of No. 5 and smell what happens. 🙂
Yep! I had a sinus infection that lasted for 8 months, but it never affected me systemically. I avoided perfume for that period, thinking that my nose would be off. I tried everything except surgery, and then just settled into it. TMI alert!: So now, it’s quite possible that I’m simultaneously smelling infected snot along with everything I’m sampling, but c’est la vie.
Yay for onward and upward!
Sorry about your nose! My daughter had long-term sinus/ear infections, and it was so hard for her. There is a certain smell that goes along with that, and you reminded me that when I first started my extra-strength vitamin supplements I had a weird taste in my mouth for a few weeks. That could be a big piece of my No. 5 puzzle. 😉
Finally made it here today! 🙂 Work is getting in the way….LOL
No scent today! I woke up not feeling so hot, so didn’t want to add scent to the mix. Maybe something later tonight!
New video up! If you’ve never attended a perfume’s funeral, there’s a first time for everything! 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEWWQhHFOLU&t=205s
I watched last night. I really enjoyed it. You have a great sense of humor.
Poor VW, may she RIP. ????
SOTD = from the sample stash, by Killian’s Playing with The Devil, courtesy of a generous NSTer. I recall someone asking about peach notes in perfume a few days ago, and this has it in spades. Also has some litchi, too.
Love peach, adding to my list.
SOTD is N°22. It’s working nicely with the cool, fresh-smelling air today after a surprise thunderstorm overnight. It is wonderfully spring-y out there.
Bea-u-ti-ful! ????????
Thanks!????
My SOTD has been multiple doses of Nature’s Gift Orange Blossom Portable Perfume (“A blend of Neroli Essential Oil and Orange Blossom Absolute in Fractionated Coconut Oil”).
My TOTD was Harney and Sons English Breakfast, straight up! I’ve run out of the loose decaf Assam that I usually mix with it half and half, so until I either place an order online or venture down to the SoHo shop, I’ll be a little overcaffeinated. And since it’s spring, I might switch gears and purchase a pound of the decaf Ceylon instead of the Assam. One has to fine-tune one’s tea choices to keep them in sync with the seasons, you know.
Oy vey, late to the party again! What a nice pair of teapots!
Today’s SOTD was a blind love in more ways than one. I recall it being my first Basenotes split and not only did I not realize the splitter was from the UK, I also ordered the “wrong ” item! The good new is it turned out for the best!
SOTD = Puredistance M
I bave never been inside an Aston Martin and cannot attest to what sime described as smelling sexy inside an Aston Martin. I had been lo-brow in my choice of cars (safety first without having to buy a tank) and my current car was the first one I purchased with leather seats. Anyway, M is good leather to my nose, spiced up with cinnamon and dare I say my nemesis, cumin? I did not get any of the citrus or flowers (jasmine, rose, carnation) detected tonka bean (not listed), tobacco (not listed) labdanum and vanilla. I used 2 spritzes from my decant and it had lasted me more than 12 hours.
For thise who are still reading / commenting, I have a pack of new mascara to give away. U. S. only please and you must have posted a comment last week in last week’s daily SOTD. Please email me and mention your screen name (unless I know you already) and which date you posted. The usual caveats apply that I am not responsible nor can I replace lost or damaged freebies.
Like the sample of M I tried, but that was because it was quite close to Hermes Bel Ami on my skin.
Don’t recall the smell of the interior of an Aston Martin, but I have been a passenger. Meh ! Long ago and far away I had a wealthy paramour with very expensive ‘toys’. I was not impressed. LOL
Maybe I should have been. Nah, no regrets !!
Cheers hajusuuri ! No matter how late you post, I read ’em !! 🙂
Shaken but not stirred?
LOL 😉
Yes, ah the folly of youth !!!
Heh, thank you!
I’m going to file away “smelling sexy inside an Aston Martin” as a ‘life goal’ right now. The perfume sounds good too. ????
It is! I am considering getting a 17.5 mL travel spray!
Well someone ran a stop light today and hit me full speed driver side. In my new car. I’m pretty beat up. Luckily just sprains, contusions and cuts. Whiplash. No breaks or internal injury. But y’all, my new car ????. It’s probably
Totaled. Everyone on scene said it would be.
So how crazy is it that I’m comforted by the Baccarat Rouge 540? Still smelling it on myself. May have to get the FB now because it’s seriously helped me make it through the afternoon. One of the scareiest moments of my life.
Sorry for the rant, needed to share I suppose. Hugs to all.
Oh no! On the bright side, you were not seriously injured, thank goodness. On the darker side, your poor new car! I am so sorry. I hope the other driver has really good insurance, and make your company negotiate hard for a replacement amount equal to your ILX, plus a bottle of Baccarat Rouge 540.
Oh no, I am so sorry but so glad you were not hurt worse! But yeah, new car, that just sucks.
Oh my! Boo hiss on the accident but thank goodness you weren’t heard worse!
