(PSA: the swapmeet is open through Tuesday — there are still lots of goodies up for swap, plus some unclaimed freebies!)
It's Friday, and it's (supposedly) spring! Our community project for today: wear one of your "top 10 of spring" fragrances (unless it's fall where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of fall" scents).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Diorissimo, of course. Just as well, it could be a long wait before my lily of the valley start blooming.
Reminder: on 3/31, your pick of Swap Love or Blind Love...wear a fragrance you acquired via a swap, or wear a fragrance you bought unsniffed. Double bonus points for wearing one of each, triple bonus points for a Blind Swap Love. If you don't swap or buy unsniffed, just wear a fragrance you love. (adapted from a suggestion by Pixel)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows Dior's limited edition nail polish colors for Spring 2017 —505 Early, 800 Now, 873 Sudden and 340 Maybe.
SotD: Chamade parfum de toilette. Narcissus, iris, and hay with the lovely old Guerlain vanilla in the base.
S(ip)otD: A fortifying mug of coffee while I finish annual evaluations and start budget reports. Happy Friday everyone!
Lovely stuff.
Chamade is wonderful.
Chamade smells like spring to me..
Hmmm maybe I’ll wear Chamade today. But the weather is decidedly unspringlike for NorCal…. rain, rain, rain, rain… I’m about to send out a dove!
Beautiful!
Mother Nature has finally deigned to bestow a decent spring day–been cold and blah all week, but will be in the 60s today. Clouds or no, we’ll take it! In one of my ebay treasures, vintage Silences, a perfect fit for the occasion. Happy week of vernal equinox, everyone.
Silences! Galbanummy.
Happy Spring to you, too. I’m in APOM Elixir from your split–thank you!
TGIF! This has been a busy week for me, too busy to post, but I’ve enjoyed skimming through the comments every day.
Today I’m going with La Chasse Aux Papillons, one of the very few florals that works for me. It’s just so pretty.
Our Badgers play at Madison Square Garden tonight!
Happy Friday everyone!!
Have fun at MSG!
Oh, I will definitely be there in spirit! I’ll have to cheer them on from the comfort of my couch.???? Thank you for the well wishes though!
ah! Ok..well have fun from your couch then!
MSG is fun to visit!
Today, I’m in the smallest spritz of Ca Sent Beau by Kenzo. Wishing for an espresso – our machine died a horrific death yesterday – smoke, sparks and then nothing. May she rest in peace. Happy Friday, fellow ‘fume heads.
My condolences.
Damn. Respect and condolences!
“Rage rage against the dying of the light. . .” fancy French coffee maker. You go!
Sigh.
Admiration.
Woke up this morning to my little monkey wanting to listen to Happy, started the day with a hot cuppa tea and a dance party.
A generous NST’er sent me some Jicky from 2002 and I am smitten and wearing it today. Trying hard not to fall in love with this one since I am sure the current version is not the same.
Popped over to Grain de Musc blog about her top Spring fragrances and now I am lemming for a sample of Sous les magnolias by Pierre Bourdon
My husband and I had a moment when we both were holding back tears watching the news about London last night. I hope this is not the norm for my (and all) children as they grow up in this world. Take care all
While I’ve not tried the Jicky extrait, the current edp is darned good. I much prefer it to the lighter edt. You schmell (yes, schmell) fantastic!
Well I should give it s schmell the next time I pass through the guerlain counter…thanks for your thought on the current version
Ooooh, my house had a dance party to Que Viva la Vida last night. Fun times!
Adding that one to the playlist! Thanks for sharing
You may have seen the photo of one of those handwritten whiteboard signs they use on the London Underground to give service messages:
All terrorists are politely reminded that
THIS IS LONDON
and whatever you do to us
we will drink tea
and jolly well carry on
Thank-you
London will shrug this off, and perhaps some day your kids will go there and misbehave as young folks away from their parents will do.
But the families of those killed are not able to just shrug this off and carry on as they always have.
Frederic Malle Lys Mediteranee — this is what I wore at my wedding, so there’s always something very special and very spring about it for me.
That is such a beautiful scent. And scents with good memories attached to them are extra special!
I love this one. I wore it a lot during my honeymoon 😀 Scents get so much better when a great moment is attached to them, don’t they?
It was not easy to choose a spring favorite today. Many beautiful fragrances were calling my name. Chanel 28 La Pausa almost won, but it is so fleeting… So, at the end I went with my latest and fabulous winter-spring transition perfume love: Hiram Green Arbole Arbole. So delicious, warm, cozy, green. Perfect for the cool spring day we have today. Enjoy your Friday!
La Pausa is lovely and really is a fleeting skin scent- which kinda makes it perfect for springs, since it is so fleeting as well.
Cousins (or house twins?) again, Robin. Lily of the valley perfumes are definitely about spring. You smell lovely.
My scent is Dior Tendre Poison – one of my favorites for late winter and early spring. It is perfectly fitting for this week’s weather here : it tempts us with sun and warmth and then goes back to grayness and wetness. As Elena from Perfume Shrine described this scent: “Tendre Poison is well-behaved, quite pretty and prim outwardly, a little unsmiling and cruel up close.” Sweet, green but slightly mean.
I loved Tendré Poison back in the day but haven’t smelled it in years. I really wish I could go back in time and yell at myself to pay attention and buy stuff I liked.
You are fitting the weather better than I am!
It’s freezing here today, but like you, I had to pull out the Diorissimo. Still trying to decide on my Top 10 for spring but I know this will be one of them.
Yay, hey twin!
Same! I have a vintage bottle of the EdT and it is such a pretty thing, it makes me so happy.
You (and everyone on Team Diorissimo today) smell great!
Another one here. Recent EdP, which is quite different from what I wore in the ’80s but it is still lovely.
I’m wearing Jolie Madame vintage parfum with a spritz of the vintage EDT. I just love this scent! Happy Friday all!
You smell great.
+1
Chanel No. 19.
Thanks for all the hugs, prayers and get well soon wishes for my Dad. He was discharged from the hospital and is resting. What amazes me is how fast this all happened. Life is beautiful. And fragile .
That is great news! I wish him a swift recovery.
Wonderful news!
Very good news. And a good reminder to all of us to “Carpe Diem”. (Thanks for reminding us every day, Bear!)
Such good news!
Great news!
Very glad to hear it!
Fantastic news!
So happy for your news!
So glad to hear your happy news!
I’m in one of my all-time faves, perfect for spring, Jour d’Hermes.
Yum, you smell great! I must remember to wear that next week.
One of my favorites, too. I always think that a sunny day in May is the perfect occasion for it.
SOTD Parfum d’Empire Equistrius, received from a swap with a lovely NSTer. It is wonderful, with iris, violet, suede, amber.. The opening is like a mix of Heure Bleue and Cuir Ottoman.
I had one of the best commutes. It was dark and still misting; the sky was like a massive dusky dark purple watercolor. I listened to Vivaldi’s Winter from NPR Classical, kept getting gorgeous whiffs of Equistrius, and watched the sky slowly lightening to a pale gray. It was lovely and memorable- I didn’t know I would say that about a commute 🙂
I enjoy my early daily commute for the same reason. So peaceful and beautiful.
You smell lovely today! ????
that is a beautiful description!
wow wow
Sounds lovely. I would look forward to commuting, too, if mine resembled that. And you smell great, too!
Equistrius is great stuff, as is Cuir Ottoman. That does sound like a pretty magical commute. Mine is never that nice..lol.
This is beautiful fragrance. My 5 year old told me that it stinks, so now I try not to wear it around her.
That is lovely. Every now and again, a routine commute or flight turns into jaw-dropping beauty and/ or awesomeness.
SOTD is my new favorite spring fragrance-VP Mito VDE.
I’m not really the first poster wearing Le Temps d’Une Fete, am I? Well, so be it. Didn’t get to post yesterday (an insane day), but that was Chanel 19 EDP.
Twins!
I would be wearing that if I could smell.
I’ve drained my bottle of Philosykos (unless I figure out how to reach those remaining drops with the sprayer). The sunny green top notes are perfection.
Agreed! I could wear that in the summer but spring is really perfect for the combo of green and sweet.
Twins! Love this one.. just wish it lasted a smidgen longer.
Today I am a honey bee and I have found my flower: Guerlain’s Angélique Noire.
Gently floral and lightly green like the new fields of blossoms and the vanilla-honey sweetness like the nectar of such blossoms.
I adore AN!
I have a FB with no regrets. I am glad I purchased when I did because now that line only comes with an atomizer spray
Me too! Glad I dodged that one, hate bulb sprayers. AN is wonderful.
Happy Friday Y’all!!
I’m so ready for warm weather to return….and STAY this time! Still a little chilly for my taste….
SOTD: La Perla J’aime les Fleurs. A nice, light mix of fruits and florals…and it’s a cheap thrill to boot!
WAY too chilly here!
Yves Rocher Homme Nature, all dewy green leaves and sun-warmed sandalwood. It’s been my #1 spring scent for (I can’t believe this) almost twenty years. It’s long discontinued: I don’t know what I’ll do for spring when I run out.
Good luck finding something new!
Ann Gerard Perles de Mousse won out today. Smells like a grassy meadow in late spring.
So lovely!
It is! It’s the winner of my Ann Gerard discovery set.
Gorgeous, one op my candidates for today as well.
Does it remind you of Ostara at all? They smell like first cousins -and I think both are same perfumer?
It does, very much so. I’m wearing Ostara today and they are both by Bertrand Duchaufour.
Taking a look at TPC flash sale today. Thinking of testing out the EDP version of Cuir de Russie and also trying out no 46. No 46 has been sitting on my wish list since forever.
Finished two decants in the past couple days and that means a little more space to add more decants. Finished off Coty’s Chypre this morning and Incense Rose was finished off two days ago. Since Chypre has worn off, I am wearing no 19 in extrait form.
If I have time I will take a look but I am up to my ears in decants and samples
I’m still up to my ears as well but making some progress with the decants.
SOTD for me is NV Rahele. It is just so beautiful! A cornucopia of florals with spices. It might say summer to some but here in Houston we’re already well advanced into the warmth, even past azalea peak season. I have a very vocal and exhibitionistic pair of ring-necked doves in the oak tree outside my study window. Their mating dances involve a lot of wing fluttering and tail pumping and they are driving my cats crazy!
I love it too. You smell lovely. It’s on my FB list.
You smell wonderful!
Wooohooo friday!
I dont have many spring scents (I need more of them, of course 😉
SotD= Eau de Narcisse Bleu, Hermès.
Beautif. It is fresh and spring-like, but it also has a melancholic vibe I really love.
There is this myth of Narcissus (as told in Ovid’s Metamorphoses). And EdNB reminds me more of the nymph Echo (AFTER she was cursed) than Narcissus (who was as we all know, self obssessed and sexy).
Feeling very spring-like in EdP En Passant today.
That’s my favourite spring scent too, and I will spray it this afternoon if it warms up. Right now it is so cold and grey here that I’m not sure I can manage it. You smell beautiful, though!
Ok, it has warmed up a bit and I’m joining you. Really, I LOVE this scent.
Oh. Hmmm. Maybe I’ll wear En Passant today… actually. Great choice!
It was hard to choose but I went with Ostara. Happy Friday everyone!
Always an excellent choice!
Twins!
Happy Friday, everyone! Haven’t posted here in a very long time, not since I was nervously awaiting the results of my husband’s tests. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with a very rare cancer, and the last few months have been filled with research, doctors, surgery, and radiation therapy. Life can change in an instant. For a long time, I couldn’t wear perfume at all – it didn’t seem right – but since he started radiation, I’ve been wearing samples. Didn’t want to associate any of my full bottles with this moment in time. Today’s wear is Romanza. Looking forward to the end of my husband’s radiation therapy, which will be Wednesday!
Very best wishes. I’ve been in your shoes. Puts a different spin on life indeed.
Oh, I am sorry to hear this. It sounds very very tough. I send best wishes and hopes that the radiation treatment is successful.
Sounds like Wednesday will be a day to celebrate, jirish! So glad you are (both) getting thru a tough time. Hugs to you!
I’m sorry you’re going through this. Hope everything turns out better than you expect and that you can soon enjoy your husband and your favorite perfumes without anxiety.
That sounds so tough!! I hope things look better after his radiation therapy.
That sounds… unimaginably trying. I hope things start looking up with this turning point.
So sorry to hear this. Sending best wishes and healing vibes.
There has been a lot of posting these days about health issues, sending you and the rest of the NST community healthy happy well being thoughts
1) I am sorry to hear this but
2) I, too am looking forward to the end of your husband’s radiation therapy.
Oh am so sorry for you guys… Been there and done that with my youngest son for years. Weirdly, I also have many amazing memories of silly chats or just lying next to each other in the hospital bed and watching cartoons together… I guess I am just trying to say that there is a tiny gift of intimacy and love amidst all the antiseptic, endless stream of nurses, and fear. I’ll be thinking of you and your husband.
What a nice thought.
Yes, that is absolutely true. A whole new way to experience each other, even though you would never have chosen it.
Jirish, I will keep you and your husband in my prayers. I really hope things are beginning to turn around and everything you have endured has a successful outcome.
Thinking of you. Hoping the treatment is a success. Hugs!
Sending best wishes for him, and for you.
Sending my warmest thoughts to you and your husband, and hopes for a speedy and full recovery. And I absolutely understand about avoiding creating scent associations during difficult times.
I understand what you are going thru. I hope the treatment is very successful and you both can have your life back again. Sending you hugs.
I’m sorry to hear this. Thank you for updating us. Wishing all the best to you and your family.
Hugs to you and best wishes to your husband.
Sorry to hear about the diagnosis, but praying for your husband to have a full recovery.
So sorry for everything you are going through. Prayers for a full recovery.
Just want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers! What a wonderful, caring community this is, and even though I haven’t had time to comment here, and have been reading comments late, I love how all of you remind me to savor the beauty and love in every day.
I’m sorry to hear of your husband’s diagnosis but glad his radiation will soon be over. Best wishes to you both.
Damn, that is rough. But it sounds like you have a very welcome milestone coming up very soon. Good luck.
Sending my prayers and best wishes to you and your husband. It sounds like you’ve had a rough several months, but I hope this week will be the start of a full recovery for him. Take care.
So sorry that you and your husband are going through this. Glad that a major milestone is coming up.
This week has been a good reminder that I’m a spring fragrance gal at heart — my collection leans heavily towards warm springtime beauties, and I could have gone with any one of many, many dozens today. I’m twins with Robin, as it turns out, in vintage Diorissimo, and smelling pretty darned lovely if I do say so myself.
Most of my very-favorites are springy as well.
Indeed you do!
Lovely, indeed!
Wrapped in La Danza delle Libellule by Nobile 1942.
Apple and vanilla with a strip of cinnamon and a swirl of coconut.
I prefer this to the “Exceptionelle” (uber concentrated ) version, which I find quite flat.
Yum!
+ 1
Cold today, supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow. We shall see.
Triple strength coffee.
Shalimar EDT from the late’80s.
The bestest perfume in the whole wide world!!!!!
Or not. YMMV
And I hope it does.
Because I do not want to live in a homogeneous world where everyone thinks, looks, loves, and smells like me.
I want a diverse world of respect and peace.
I will strive to make it happen in my corner of the universe.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
🙂
Thank you for the Friday wishes! My department secretary wears Shalimar and has been wearing it for 40 years. I hope she wears it for 40 more.
You’re welcome Ede97005!
😀
Me neither, but if a few more people smelled like you? That would be excellent!
How is your son doing, Oakland Fresca?
(Disregard if it is none of my business, I would understand.)
He is doing great. He had (but notice the past tense) an aggressive brain cancer, and so treatment was long and extremely difficult. Treatment on the brain of child has many costs–but he is very kind and funny and takes his challenges in stride. His treatment ended in 2010, so he’s past the 5 year mark. He will be traveling with several other students from his class to Washington DC in May. Each student has been asked to give a short speech on the Washington Mall recognizing one of their heroes. He’ll be carrying a photo of Edward V. Roberts (his second choice was “Weird Al” Yankovic– so we’ve dodged more than one bullet!!).
I’m so glad your son is doing so well! At the proton radiation center where my husband is being treated, there are many pediatric patients being treated for brain cancer. We often sit in a room where previous patients have placed their hand prints signed and dated with their last day of treatment. My husband said he can’t feel sorry for himself, when he sees these little ones and their families fighting so hard.
Thank you, Oakland Fresca, that is great news.
And jirish, it is also great news that your husband is in remission. (Your reply button is missing here.)
Onward and Upwards !!
You smell so good.
Thanks hannahmom!
You smell awesome!
Thanks KellyC !
Love this! :^)
Thanks Koenigsberg !!!
Cheers !
It’s Pacifica French Lilac for me today. A very true to life representation of the lilac trees that were in my yard when I lived in the PNW.
Very pretty indeed!
Hey! Whats’ your new avatar? I almost feel like I recognize it… but no.
It’s from an old Soviet poster for their space program. She’s pointing to a planet and saying “In the name of peace.” Whatever one’s feelings about their government, they really knew how to design a poster.
I love it!
Yes they did. Especially the space program. I love the Laika era especially (for those who don’t know Laika but love dogs, google: laika soviet propaganda)!
I just reread my comment. I love the art around Laika, not the story of her life–lest I offended anyone.
There’s a nice little collection of posters in the foyer of the Russian Museum in Malaga – an offshoot of the St Petersburg parent. I picked up a book of early posters from the ’20s* – amazingly modern stuff. TOMK picked up a book called “Russian Space Dogs”. The contrast between the glorious propaganda and the reality was upsetting.
* Just realised we’re going to have to start specifying the NINETEEN twenties before too long. Yikes!
Oooh, you smell great!
A spring favorite! You smell great!
Nice!
It is very realistic–you smell great. The room diffuser was fabulous too, but those have all been discontinued. ????
Room diffuser you say? Hmmm….
I almost never do my nails, but the color combo in the pic makes me want to buy all four of those polishes and go to town.
Scent of the day is FM’s Eau de Magnolia, my current spring favorite. Smells like a bright and sunny spring day, with something a little loamy/mushroom-y lurking in the background to keep things interesting.
I adore EdM! I find its bright citrus opening perfect for the summer. I recommend you try AdP Magnolia Nobile too (if you haven’t already.)
I’ll check it out – I have a sample of Atelier’s Sud Magnolia that I’ve also been meaning to compare to EdM.
Seriously loving those colors. I do my nails all the time…perhaps this will be a new lemming.
My 3 yo loves to have her toenails painted, so I could ALMOST justify these as a kid expense . . .
My nails are always done, too. I just can’t seem to love the designer polishes (for myself) and tend to go for the indies.
You smell great! I would have worn that if I had access to my bottle today.
LAP Fleur de Narcisse (2006) is one of my many spring favorites. It was a tough choice because I love Sous le Toit de Paris (thanks AnnE!) in the spring!
My favourite for so many categories this morning….Vetiver Tonka.
After today’s swim, I’m looking forward to an overdose of Dilettante. I just can’t get enough of this stuff!
Sounds like a wonderful day.
Friday!
1) SOTD: in Infusion ‘Iris Absolue. Just super lovely and a great fragrance to wear year round, frankly, but perfect for the muted mild temps and rainy conditions of Portland spring. I broke down and bought a bottle + a sample Infusion set!
2) Sampled Figue en Fleur by Andree Putman. It’s pretty, but very similar to Philosykos or Italian Summer Fig (TBS) or Roger/Gallet’s Fleur de Figuier, so just get Philosykos or Italian Summer Fig or Fleur de Figuier and be done.
3) Coffee and plain glazed donut for breakfast. I am now feeling the effects of having a pastry after a couple of weeks and boy- it’s potent indeed.
You smell wonderful!
I almost reached for this, and then swerved and put on some of the last of my Iris Poudre decant.
I was naughty today – chocolate croissant this morning and 2/3 of an almond croissant in the afternoon.
Ostara, my favourite daffodil and daffodils are the messengers of spring to me. I’ve been very busy today, but I finally have time for some lunch, while it’s actually nearly time for dinner.
Scent twins!
Thanks for the reminder–I need to wear Ostara this weekend.
Trying to use up my decants again after a detour there for a while. Top ten any perfume feels like too much pressure. Cuir de Russie today it is.
which I realize this is ridiculous–because I’m using up a decant of CdR even though I have a full bottle…as opposed to using decants that are evaporating that I love and don’t own…oh well. I haven’t been in the Spring mood when I put on perfume in the morning since it’s been 50 degrees in the morning. (Which, I know isn’t cold, being from Chicago, but for Southern California 50 is cozy oriental perfume wearing weather for me.)
But it’s so much easier to finish those because you know you have more!
Exactly!
I’m glad I’m not the only one!
SOTD top ten spring scent for me is The Lilac Wood by BPAL. This is a fantastic lilac, especially for the price. It’s bright, green, pollen-y lilacs in full bloom on a spring morning. Reminds me of the lilac tree that grew in the alley behind my grandparents’ house. I hope everyone is having a lovely Friday!
Oooh, will add this to my lilac list!
I totally evangelize about this perfume. I think it’s a real gem, and under $20!
Me, too.
No spring here — watching the approaching storm. High winds and lotsa rain forecast. ENOUGH ALREADY! Fingers crossed that the power stays on and the roads stay open.
Completing my Tom Ford week. Yesterday was Oud Wood which was one of my first perfumista discoveries, and is still my favorite TF. Enjoying the giant blast o’ Amber Absolute today.
My fingers crossed that your roads stay open! ☔
You smell great! AA is so chewy and incensey on me. Crossing fingers for no storm damage.
I hope the storm passes you by. AA is wonderful!
It’s also Nation Puppy Day! Mine is currently taking a nap in the sun after a nice long morning hike along the Neuse River. We started early because we were both cold and a good walk always warms you up.
Since I’m aú natural today, I opted for FM Vetiver Extraordinaire. I have a 10ml travel size, which is perfect since I am indeed traveling.
Happy Friday to all????
Musical words: puppy, nap, sun, hike, river, Frederic Malle ????
Every day is puppy day here! My sweetheart is curled up at my feet right now. Love her sooo much.
Cazaubon, I hope things went well for your puppy-girl today!
Thank you, I am happy to report we got good results! Hope you did too!
We got a good report back from the vet…whew! I’m glad there was good news all around. 🙂
Sounds like the road trip is going well!
L’ amandiere, which has become one of my new spring staples, besides temps d’une fête and Kelly calèche
Great, underrated scent!
Well… I have a wee spot of good news in the feline department. A family vacation’s worth of medical tests and treatment, 5 daily meds, subcutaneous nightly drips, plus me hand feeding Mr. Most. Annoying. But. We. Love. Him. black, ol’ curmudgeon… and I do believe he is feeling a mite bit better. He is talking, and asking for affection (this could also be a sign that he’s at death’s door, but in this instance I think he is not 😉 !), sniffing his food and possibly taking a few nibbles on his own, and all around is a shadow of his former annoying self.
In perfume news, I am still undecided. Chamade parfum? En Passant? Or shall I crack open my new decant of Neroli Outrenoir I received via the NST swap (thank you!!)?
Life is good, eh?
Happy the Feline Department is doing better????
Good news! May it continue!
So glad your baby’s feeling better!
Hi jirish,
I just wanted to follow-up on your thoughts above about the kids at the radiation center. You and your husband will do great with all your thoughtfulness and compassion for others around you, I know it. But I also want to recognize that kids get through hell, one day at a time, because that is all they know. They have an amazing ‘life is hot, what’s up today?’–sort of attitude. Adults have the added burden of perspective on what is happening, what could happen, what they hope will happen–vis a vis their treatment, primary relationships, jobs, finances, and so on. So, I just wanted to say that the road is not easy for anyone, radiation sucks, and I really wish you the very best.
So true! I had open heart surgery as a child and I think it was harder on my parents than on me. I was like “ok, get ‘er done and let’s move on.” I had no concept of death as a possible outcome. That was my poor parent’s burden.
One of my nephews did as well when he was not quite a year old and the kid was sitting up less than 24 hours and being his ornery self.
Yay for kitty improvement!
Wonderful update on kitty.
Wearing a spring favorite that I haven’t worn in a while, the lovely Eau de Camille. Mmm sweet floral grass and ivy that wears very warm on my skin. I hope I sprayed enough to last all day. I’m hoping this works as a mood enhancer on this dreary, rainy day. I’m a bit over work at the moment and feel like the weeks have been so long lately. Friday at last!
Cousins…I’m in Eau de Charlotte!
I hope you have a chance to relax and enjoy your weekend!
Surprised myself by abandoning First for Moss Gown this morning. I can’t decide if it’s spring or summer though. The hay feels more summer to me.
It’s not really nice enough for my favorite spring perfumes(Pretty Machine and Desarmant both seem to require sunnier, warmer weather) so I’m in Byredo Green
I don’t have many new spring favorites this year, possibly only one – Tom Ford Vert de Fleur. And that’s what I’m wearing today.
How is it?
It’s a bit like someone had taken a look at No 19 and said: this is a great perfume, but so serious and strict! Let’s make it softer and a less green and somewhat sexy and more floral. It’s not a masterpiece like No 19 and too expensive for what it is, but then again, there aren’t many green florals on the market these days. I like it for work, as it’s quite classic and pretty understated, but has a touch of glamour. The vibe reminds me of Fleur de Chine, although they smell different and FdC is better/more special. I wrote about VdF on the blog, too.
In a totally different vein, more of a green chypre than a green floral but have you tried Givenchy III? It’s very good, and would be great for those difficult meetings!
SOTD= La Chasse de Papillions. Basically I poured the last third of my sample on my chest and spread it around. 🙂 It has faded to a faint memory now, but this is six hours later. Definitely moving to the top of my FB list. Well, competing for first place with my other linden love, Pretty Machine. Which one should I get first?
Hard choice!! Whichever you can find at discount?
Ha, great minds think alike! If neither is on a discount, which one do you think you’d wear more often?
I believe La Chasse is “prettier”, and Pretty Machine has more “ommph” and staying power – it has been a while since I had any of it, so I can’t do a direct wrist to wrist test to see which one wins. 🙂
I expect if I had both of them, I would layer them. So, probably discount availability will inspire me….
Actually, I love the aqua bottle of Pretty Machine more than the industrial bottle. If I had found an acqua bottle of that somewhere I would have bought it already….
Hey twin, we smell great! Must check out Pretty Machine now!
Many of the Kerosene scents are very interesting.
Wearing Trefle Pur today, since I think its greenery can stand up to early spring weather vagaries. Have already gotten one compliment today, so feeling pretty good about this choice!
I love Trefle Pur. It’s work safe, fresh, and pretty but it lasts and doesn’t get on my nerves.
I’m in Misia, from a sample begged from a reluctant SA. Slow start for me today, with cold brewed iced coffee and a bagel.
Yesterday was the memorial service for my mom, and I wore the beautiful Theorema, courtesy of the recent NST split meet. The service and the reception after were both perfect. She was a NICU nurse, and we had eighteen of her nurse cohorts in attendance, sharing such funny and touching stories that we had never heard about her! The day was full of tears and laughter, and I hope to never forget it. Thanks for listening, y’all. ❤
I am glad you were able to remember your mom yesterday in such a lovely way. Hugs.
So glad it was a perfect ceremony, do keep the lovely memories.
Sounds really sweet and glad there were also some laughs. A favorite line from a terminally ill patient of mine who was planning his own funeral: “We need to put the FUN back in funeral”???? Hugs to you.
Elisa, I LOVE that comment. I really do!
“The service and the reception after were both perfect”…What a lovely tribute! And it has been my experience that although sometimes good people get bad funerals, bad people never get good funerals.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Your mom must have been an amazing person. I am a postpartum nurse, and have such respect and admiration for my NICU nurse colleagues. They are literally saving the lives of the most frail and vulnerable. It takes a very special person to do that. I hope you take some comfort in knowing that a part of your mom’s legacy will live on in the many tiny lives that she touched. ☺️
My condolences Nancyleandros.
That sounds like a lovely memorial to your Mother.
🙂
May your mother’s memory be a blessing. My mom is a retired nurse and I have always envied how much meaning and satisfaction she got from her work, something I never managed to feel about mine. How wonderful you got to hear from her coworkers about the part of her life you didn’t get to see – that is so valuable.
I’m so sorry for your loss, but happy you got to have a memorial full of love and wonderful memories. It’s wonderful to learn how much someone you love meant to other people.
I’m glad the service and reception went well and that you learned some new stories about your mom. Hugs to you.
Good to hear that the memorial service and reception for your mom went well. Those can be very somber occasions.
Thank you all so much for the kind and insightful comments. I’m so glad I found this little corner of the internet, both for the depth of knowledge and the compassion.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. ❤
That sounded like a nice memorial for your mom. Hugs to you. A friend who passed away ago had been planning his memorial service since high school, down to the smallest detail; it was a lovely service.
In Close Up by Olfactive Studio. Coffee, Cherrie and Tobacco – sounds like horror but combines really well. Go figure.
Ooh, I think coffee, cherry, and tobacco actually sound great together! I’ll have to give this one a try!
Just tried that this week – it was nice but didn’t last long on me. It doesn’t smell like Angel but the opening had an Angel-like feel.
I can’t wait to try it!
Happy Friday Everyone! I’m wearing my all-time favorite scent.
My SOTD is Nectarine Blossom & Honey by Jo Malone. I can’t say its just my favorite Spring time scent because I wear it year round. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Oh, I think I have a sample of that! I’ll have to give it a shot. 🙂
So far, I’m unscented, although there is the faintest vanilla remainder of Felanilla from yesterday. I just received it, and I’m looking forward to playing with it next fall.
At one time, one of my spring favorites was Goutal’s Eau de Camille, with its whole green and honeysuckle vibe. But the fragrance is long-since discontinued, and my bottle is no longer the same. It went through an odd stage where it smelled more like a floral air freshener to me, and I believe it’s wandered well into nail polish remover territory at this point. I miss it a bit, but many lovely things aren’t meant to last forever, and it is fun to remember how enjoyable it was.
My bottle of Goutal’s Chevrefeuille is fairly recent, and I believe I will crack that out shortly.
In Eau de Charlotte, which I just love for days like today (sunny and in the 70s). It is fleeting on me though and I wish I’d have sprayed something more powerful for my closing today. But alas, I smelled pretty while it lasted this AM! Happy Friday, friends!
You did smell pretty this morning! I found I could get about six hours out of EdC using the spray-yourself-wet method. My decant disappeared in a hurry, but it was very nice while it lasted.
From NST’s Twitter, I am wondering about pancakes on a stick. Where does the syrup go?
This morning I am wearing MFK Amyris femme. It speaks of spring to me. The kitchen backsplash is tiled and I am painting the walls this weekend. So glad the house is almost done! Also, Kevin’s essay on spring perfumes is beautiful if you haven’t read it yet.
I’m failing on the quiz because I came across a sample of Miller et Bertaux Spiritus / land EdP #2 and decided to test something new instead.
Robin reviewed it way back:
https://nstperfume.com/2005/03/14/miller-et-bertaux-no-2-spiritus-land/
I don’t find the ginger that strong, but I’m applying from a rollerball rather than spraying, or perhaps #2 has changed over time. Of course, since 2005, we’ve entered a perfume minefield of evil spiky notes, overbearing ouds, pepper, etc.; perhaps ginger now seems quite harmless by comparison. The combination of ginger and incense is nice.
I don’t get ginger from this either, it is a dry incense on me.
It warmed up a bit, so AG La Violette today. Not challenging at all, just light and fun.
Silences for me today. To the extent that I have a top 10 for spring, this would be one.
You smell lovely.
Ooooooh nice!
You know, I keep seeing this one mentioned around here. I think I need to add it to the To Be Sampled list. ????
Happy Friday, NST!
My scent for today’s project is No°5 L’Eau. It has easily earned a spot in my spring top-10 list. I think it’s nice in colder weather, too…
You smell lovely
Thank you!
You smell great! Agree it smells wonderful anytime.
Thanks!
I should wear mine – it’s time!
Yes, wear it!
Late today but I’ve been wearing I Miss Violet, one of my very favorite spring perfumes.
It’s a windy, sunny spring day here in Oklahoma and after trying some new samples(definitely getting come Demeter pineapple!) from the perfumed court I’m in a dab of Penhaligon’s Violeta. It seems to really fit the day, just the right balance of cool and warm. Happy Friday all!
I should try Violeta. It doesn’t seem to get much love, but neither does their Orange Blossom, which is pretty great.
It’s Fall here and I’m wearing vintage Samsara.
Beautiful!
SOTD is Ys-Uzac “Lale”.
Top: osmanthus, bergamot, orange, mandarin and wintersweet;
Mid: saffron, pink pepper, apricot, white flowers and rose;
Base: Amber, incense, benzoin and woody notes.
I think I learned of it from one of Kanuka’s posts. Very nice juice, if a bit on the ethereal side for me. :^)
Ten sprays goood….
I’m smelling gorgeous in vintage YSL Paris.
SL Fleur d’Oranger for me today. Still smells great after all these years!
wonderful choice. I love this.
SOTD = Lilacs and Heliotrope, from Soivohle. It’s done a great job of gently picking me up out of a melancholy funk today. So happy I grabbed a bottle of this when I did!
That sounds great! I like lilac and I like heliotrope – a match made in heaven.
Oh, that sounds wonderful!
It does sound beautiful. I’m glad it helped with your funk. Perfume is such a good alternative to eating your feelings.
Autumn here is Australia so I’m wearing SL’s La Fille de Berlin fir it’s lively jammy rosy spicy goodness.
Or even ‘for its lovely jammy rosy spicy goodness.’ Actually Saturday mirning here so I’m late to the party and clearly need more coffee…
*sigh* ‘mirning’ LOL
I love La Fille de Berlin, and think it’s gorgeous in any season.
Surfing The Sample Sea Day Four. Energy flagging. But I’ll disregard it, because I’m on a mission.
Green floral springy scents are my favorites, and I have so many in that category. Today I would have chosen Chamade, because it’s both bright and warm. I adore the zing of the smells of spring, but as I’ve gotten older I am now also appreciating what is below ground and fulminating and also the remnants of decay. Romanza would definitely fit that bill.
My surfing The Sample Sea has thus far been random. Today I encountered Fleur de Foudre, Incarnata, L’Heure de Nuit and Nuits Indiennes. None of them sing to me.
You can do this!
Ha! Great minds! ????
I enjoy reading your posts Holly. I haven’t tried the majority of the scents you mentioned but I do think that L’Heure de Nuit smells like a spring meadow. I only had a tiny sample but enjoyed wearing it as a sleep scent. You can do this! ????
You can do it, Holly! Pretty soon I will smell you all the way up here 🙂
I was hunting through my samples for something today, and I came across a lot of things I want to try. You are inspiring!
How was Nuits Indiennes?
SotD = Parfums Berdoues Somei Yoshino from a sample. Full-on diffusive perfume-y jasmine sambac. Very pretty if you’re into that. I’m not.
Later today I will wear the last drops from a sample of Muguet Porcelaine. I love love love it.
Looking forward to reading all of the sotd choices. I love spring and its scents, and autumn’s fragrances as well.
I got a whole sample set of the Berdoues from Twisted Lily back in December (I think) but have not sample any as yet. I have a FB of Assam of India and I should haul that out to wear!
Oh, do take some time to try your Berdoues samples. I’ve tried only a few so far but each one is interesting and just plain good (dare I say great?) enough that I will wear them again.
I am now sniffing the very delicious lemony beginning of Assam of India. On my other hand is Oud Wa Vanilia, a quite appealing vanilla plus hints of flowers, band aids, and maybe a bit of dirt and leather.
Super late to the party!
SOTD = Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar
I spectacularly oversprayed and loved it. I don’t have a real Top Ten list but if I did, MPN will occupy a spot.
Smelled in the wild: Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka on an NJ Train on the way home this evening. There is hope in the world!
Who’s going to the Sniffapalooza / Byredo event this Sunday? Moi!
Now off to read what y’all wore!
Mmm, you smell wonderful! Love MPN. And JM Myrrh & Tonka too!
“Spectacularly oversprayed”–awesome! Hey, as long as no one in the vicinity ends up gasping for air or passing out, go for it. ????
Yay for M&T on the train! Woo woo! ????
Wearing Maison Francis Kurkdjian APOM Elixir, a lovely warm, sweet-but-not-cloying orange blossom, with a little cedar underneath that gives it a little edge. I don’t know that I have a full Top 10 of Spring, but things I’ve worn in the past week include Donna Karan Gold edp, Tom Ford Lys Fume, L’Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons, and Penhaligon’s Orange Blossom. Tomorrow I may wear Houbigant Orangers en Fleurs. (There are a couple of themes here.) A few things I love in the spring (Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay, Mauboussin Histoire d’Eau, L’Artisan Traversee du Bosphore) are equally good in the fall, so I’m not sure if they count.
The APOM Elixir also counts, I think, for next week’s theme. I had tried APOM Pour Homme, but not Pour Femme or the Elixir, before buying it in one of the Splitmeets. (Thank you, galbanumgal!) Happy weekend, everybody.
