Lazy weekend poll ~ four questions for April 2019

Posted by Robin on 6 April 2019 218 Comments

A repeat of a poll we did last year. As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or, likewise as always, feel free to talk about something else altogether.

1. What fragrance are you wearing today?

2. What’s your favorite fragrance for a rainy day in April?

3. What’s your favorite spring flower, and if you have a favorite perfume based on that flower, what is it?

4. Share something wonderful with us! It can be anything — a great movie you saw, something delicious you ate, something fun you did recently — really, anything…

Friday scent of the day 3/22

Posted by Robin on 22 March 2019 381 Comments

Hey, it’s Friday! Our community project for today: celebrate the arrival of spring by wearing your favorite spring fragrance. (If it’s fall where you are, you know what to do.)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

It continues cold, gray, rainy, and basically not-spring here. I’m waiting impatiently to switch to my summer wardrobe (and I’m previewing next Friday’s project as well) in Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré…

5 perfumes ~ vanilla fragrances for spring

Posted by Robin on 11 May 2018 30 Comments

It’s been a very odd spring in my little corner of Pennsylvania: first way too cold, then way too hot, and only just recently approaching the happy sort of spring temperatures I look forward to all winter. That’s probably made it a little easier to think about which vanilla perfumes might work best for the gamut of spring weather (I’ve already covered fall and winter). As always, do chime in with your own picks in the comments!

Aedes de Venustas Cierge de Lune: With a creamy powder finish and a hint of warm amber, Cierge de Lune is probably best suited to the cooler days of spring…

Top 10 Spring Fragrances 2018

Posted by Jessica on 6 April 2018 20 Comments

We have snow in the forecast as I’m writing this post, so it doesn’t feel like spring; yet here we are. Looking back at my lists of favorite spring fragrances from 2008 and 2013, I’ve decided to do something different this time. I’ll never stop loving Après l’Ondée or L’Eau d’Hiver, but I gave myself a new assignment for this round: I sampled lots of new releases and chose ten that I’d want to continue wearing in the coming months. I’ve been feeling for a long time that I just can’t keep up with the tide of new launches, but this is my deliberate small effort at feeling more current (even just for one season)!

Spring is the season when I enjoy white florals the most, and Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Je Suis La Lune (I Am the Moon) is a jasmine fragrance that smells more like a creamy, slightly salty lily to me…

5 perfumes: vetiver fragrances for spring

Posted by Robin on 7 April 2017 62 Comments

Vetiver mat

It’s April, and we ought to be having spring weather, but so far, it’s been elusive at best, at least in my neck of the woods. After a warmer than usual winter, we’re having a colder than usual spring (I’ve got my heat on today, again). All the same, it’s time for the spring vetiver list (I’ve already done summer, fall and winter, and I’m now accepting votes in the comments for what note, fragrance family or style to do next). As always, the line between the seasons is perhaps a bit arbitrary and/or personal, but for spring we’re looking for versatility: not so heavy as winter, not so light as summer, able to work in nearly any weather, perhaps a bit more lighthearted than the fall list? And as always, do add your own picks in the comments!

Parfums DelRae Panache: I think of Panache as a kinder, gentler riff on Serge Lutens Chêne, with vetiver mingling with the oak and rum…
