Wednesday scent of the day 3/22

Posted by Robin on 22 March 2017 306 Comments

Captain Kirk

Happy Hump Day, happy World Water Day and a very happy birthday to Mr. William Shatner! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in good old L'Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons. I smell like spring, despite the cold wind howling outside my windows.

Reminder: on 3/24, wear one of your "top 10 of spring" fragrances (unless it's fall where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of fall" scents)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

So cold today…winter refuses to go after a sunny, warm, beautiful day yesterday. Wearing another spring favorite: Annick Goutal Heure Exquise EdP. A gorgeous creamy, powdery green iris. So lovely, inviting and comforting! Swapmeet packages will be in the mail today….

Wearing a sample of Hylands Foxglove. Not a line a ever thought about our smelled much but samples are always fun. So far seem pretty mild but might give more when the day warms up.

the lippys from the petit robe noire have a scent to them, just in case you don’t like anything right under your nose. They are more like a sheer lip balm that you can build on. I am really happy with the one I got

Daytripping to Austin today for my friend’s birthday. Robin, I’ll trade your cold wind for our mid-80’s sun!

Texas got extra ripped-off this winter. It’s supposed to be pushing 90 this weekend and all the tender spring flowers have been burned up too quickly. I’m not silly enough to want snow, but skipping winter AND spring is making me a little grumpy.
I forgot about Missoni. I remember liking it but never got around to buying any.

I only sprayed the aqua one in Nordstrom when it was new but it was very pretty, blinding white. I really want to try it again. The orange one isn’t true love but it’s lot of fun.

It doesn’t smell blinding white to me; maybe you’re hyperosmic to one of the musks? Worth another try if you see it, though.

I think the orange one would have been ideal for the then young Missoni daughter who inspired it, so it’s a bit young for me, but why should I let that stop me? :)

Happy 86th birthday to my space dad!! In the absence of Shirtless Kirk Eau de Parfum, I’m wearing Musc Ravageur- sure to seduce even the greenest of alien ladies! ;)

I’ve actually given an embarrassing amount of thought to what fragrances the various Star Trek captains might wear. I like the idea of Picard in Jo Malone Earl Grey & Cucumber. Sisko needs something darkly sexy, and Janeaway’s obviously has to have a coffee note…

Blasted on Gourmand Coquin, then for The Sample Sea challenge I’m testing Wrappings, Une Fleur de Cassie, and vintage Vol de Nuit. I’ll add two more later on. Y’all might get sick of my sampling reports, but until I’m in the groove and have established the habit, I’ll probably keep yapping so I’m held accountable. ;)

Une Fleur de Cassie is very pretty but had poor longevity. Wrappings is nice, but it doesn’t move me. Vol de Nuit is quite mature in that vintage kinda way, and I’m old but immature. ;) I think I’ll spend more time with it as it’s such a classic.

I’m glad I plunged in haphazardly, as otherwise I never would have got going, but I knew that Gourmand Coquin’s sillage would overwhelm the rest. So tomorrow, I’ll try to be a bit more methodical.

Just spritzed Vanille Tonka and Vanille Charnelle on my knees.

Kind of how I felt, but I’ve gotten rid of a lot, and quickly. The downside of getting rid of things very quickly is taste changes. I’ve retried some of the rejects recently and really like some of them now (Sarrasins and Piguet Calypso for 2).

Absolutely! I’m sure that I’ll be passing on things that could be potential loves, and my method is completely random. It’s far from what I would normally do, but what I normally did was to accumulate samples and not even test them. What once felt like potential now feels like a burden.

I dont care for DN either. But I am kinda curious if a celebrity ”endorsement’ like this will amp up the sales. And I have this prejudice about Drake’s male fanbase, that it consists of guys that wear One million…sorry if I have offended a Drake fan along the way…

My late husband was a CA and an Accounting professor at WLU, and wrote lots of accounting textbooks. When our kids were babies and would not sleep, one of us would read his books to them and they would immediately nod off. Accountants are rock stars in my family, though.

William Shatner was a hottie back in the day! (He’s still awesome today, but look at that sexy grin on his face above!) :)

SOTD: Mon Guerlain. I was so excited to get my Scentbird sample in the mail last night! First impression: I really like it. Not sure I LOVE it, but I do really like it. The sugary vanilla is prominent on my skin; I don’t really get the “lemon candy” that Robin described in the top notes. Good stuff! This one is going sell like gangbusters….

Midweek YouTube review of Moschino Fresh Couture! This is my first full on GEEK OUT on my channel, and the direction I want my channel to go! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7w8VGIhiKY

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Scentbird! It’s such a good way to try perfumes without making expensive mistakes! LOL Plus, it’s a generous sample for $14.95….sometimes it’s less expensive per ml than a full size bottle would be!

I am also getting the lavender in Mon Guerlain, not such much the bergamot. It’s really nice!

      Nice video, JadainGA !
One suggestion, I would have enjoyed seeing you spray the bottle.
The ‘cleaning spray mechanism’ is just a cap, correct ?
If you remove it there is a normal perfume spray – yes, no ?
Or does it spray just like Windex ?
      Cheers !!

I’m in a spring favorite today, Le Galion Iris. The wonderful hajusuuri introduced me to this one a while back – it’s a little metallic and a little carrot-y up top, but then settles into gentle iris loveliness.

In bed with horrible cold, such a luxury to be allowed to be ill! Hubby’s working from home today, so he did the school run, and I had such a lovely sleep this morning.
My sense of smell is still here, and so wearing one of my two favourite ‘cold/flu’ perfumes, Seville a L’Aube. The other one is Azemour les Oranges. It’s a very wet, stormy day, so I’m feeling extra grateful to be snotty and sneezy at home, and not outside.

Hi ELISA. I always had this problem too and I tried every mascara I came across and they all left me with raccoon eyes after a couple of hours until I discovered tubing mascara. It applies the same as regular mascara but it forms little tubes around the lash with are washed off with water not makeup remover. The one I use is Clinique Lash Power but lots of brands have a tubing mascara I just don’t know the names of any others. It does flake off a bit sometimes but I can just brush the flakes off. If you want to find others though you’d be better to google it and check out makeup alley as I find sales assistants don’t often know a lot about the products they’re selling and if you ask at a counter you are likely to get a blank stare!

I saw William Shatner in his autobiographic one-man show “It’s Shatner’s World – We Just Live in It” in DC a year or two ago. He was wonderful, incredibly powerful, by turns heart-breakingly touching and vaudeville-slapstick hilarious. I realized I like Shatner even better than Kirk.

FYI, William Shatner’s 2013 “Get a Life!” can be streamed free on Amazon Prime now.

I almost went with La Chasse Aux Papillons, but the cool, rainy weather was asking for something a bit warmer and richer. So, I’m in Tabac Tabou, applied via the spray-into-the-air-and-walk-into-the-cloud method. I find it a bit too big when sprayed directly on my skin, but this is just right — I feel like I have a sheer golden veil around me.

I love the celebrity scent market for that. A lot of them are crap, but a lot of designer stuff is crap, too. I got Eau de Gaga for $9.99 and I wear it more than a lot of stuff that’s way more expensive.

I got my Sens Unique box yesterday and it’s all leathers this month! I’m so excited. I don’t know if anything could possibly be better that my Cuir de Russie, L’eau Scandaleuse, 1740, or Galop, but I’m certainly game to let them all try.

Today’s is Carner Barcelona Cuirs, which I am liking- the saffron note is a crest supporting cast measure. Yesterday I tried Evody Cuir Blanc, which just read iris and sweetness on my skin.

I think I will be using up this sample but probably not buying a full bottle- it is really lovely but just not special enough, you know? I can’t imagine reaching for this over Galop very often, which is my current “comfort” leather.

Galop is much rosier to me, but mainly like many other Hermes perfumes it gives me the slight queasies. So more Cuirs for me and more Galop for you!

I have high hopes for the Curis Garamante, but for a box of leathers that specifically calls out S&M clubs in the intro, theses tend surprisingly tame.

Love TOS, especially when Kirk was in full passionate speech mode. I babysat a ten year old kid when I was a senior in High School and took him to a Star Trek convention in downtown Oakland. It was in the ’70s so all of them were there. Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, etc… Great fun.

I am slowly working my way through a sample pack from The World of Oud. Today is Almond. They smell wonderful, but have NO staying power and for the outrageous price tag per bottle, that is unacceptable.

BUT on todays note, I got to meet Mr. Shatner once and he is a riot! That over the top persona is no performance. LOL He is an engaging story teller and is just magnetic. There’s a reason why some people are stars, they have a force to them that is hard to resist. He is a star! Maybe not a great actor, but a star. So Happy Birthday Mr Shatner.

Happy water day and thinking about all the rivers that have been lost or destroyed as a result of intensive farming, irrigation and pollution…so that’s a cheery thought! Perfume comparison day. Number 1 : JM Myrrh and tonka vs. Zadig &Voltaire ( Him and Her) vs. JM Mimosa and Cardamon. I think the Z&V stands up well, though I think I like Mimosa and Cardamon best (and Myrrh and Tonka least).

I don’t really know what I think…thinking is so hard! My main problem with JM Myrrh and tonka is that it makes me a bit wheezy. But that is probably due to quantity. Z&V are both much louder than the JM. They are to JM what Poison Girl is to Hypnotic Poison. Or, maybe I shouldn’t wear four perfumes at once?

Isn’t it funny how the wrong perfume can make you grumpy? My husband often accuses me of having low blood sugar when I get grumpy BUT I think it might just be the 4pm perfume slump???

Now that you mention it, that particular kind of irrational irritablilty is common to both blood sugar crashes and annoying perfume. I was keeping my strength up with oatmeal cookies, though, so I know it was the perfume. ;)
Its not that I don’t like the fragrance I wore (Monserrat), it just wasn’t AT ALL what I was craving and it was going all super-tart screechy fake fruit on me. It might be a while before I wear it again.

Very good day to all of you. I’ve woken in a rather better humour than I was in yesterday, but sadly, the bug-let has flexed and grown a bit, so I’m rather off colour. Not green and nauseous, more a clammy off-white with ominous portents of worse to come. I am breakfasting on a tablespoon of hot water with a teaspoon of cognac in it, my mother’s infallible cure for upsets of all sorts, and I shall work at home in case this is a sociable bug that’s looking for more friends to visit. I’m wearing Cristalle, for its clean, focused purity, and wonderful to relate, it’s helping quite a lot. I’ll work until I can’t, I think, and then I’ll deal with whatever comes next. Rest easy: I won’t report back!

SOTD is “Méroé” from Teo Cabanel.

    Top: bergamot, mandarin, lemon, lavender and basil;
    Mid: neroli, jasmine and nutmeg;
Base: musk, amber and woody notes.

Pleasant citrus cologne with a flowery facet. I won’t be swiping right. (Or left, whichever, how would I know?) :^)

Happy Hump Day to all of you perfumistas!
Well, I will start off with my good news. I have been going through sooo much lately and was just told recently that I could possibly have breast cancer. Last week I had to undergo a biopsy and several tests. Today, I had an appointment to meet with my doctor and discuss my test results. Well, my doctor called me on my cell this morning and left a message. She said that she was going over my results and that it was good news. She went on to say there was no reason for me to come in unless I just really wanted to see them. But, she was calling to save me a trip! Yes! Yes! Yes! Finally some good news! I feel that you guys know so much about me and feel like family, I just had to share this with you! :)
My SOTD is Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker. This was a blind buy for me (it was 1/2 off and I couldn’t pass that up), but it got pretty good comments on NST and other sites. So, I tried my luck and I won! I love it. It doesn’t seem to last long on me and reminds me of a softer version of Narsico Rodriguez. Anyone feel the same about it?

Lovely is a great fragrance, one of my favorites. It was a successful blind buy for me as well, I find it very subtle and relaxing. I remember seeing SJP discussing Lovely on Late Night with David Letterman when she was a guest. It must have been around the time it came out. She mentioned there is quite a bit of lavender in it; Dave told her she smelled fantastic; you do too.

Don’t you think they look like the Wiggles? I suppose Star Trek came first

SJP Lovely again. It’s my go-to these days. Good news is I don’t get tired of it, at least, haven’t yet.

Darn work fragrance ban. I would be wearing Hermes Kelly Caleche.

SotD = the remnants of L’Heure Bleue from yesterday evening.

I had a haircut this morning and my stylist asked what I was wearing. Made my day + an extra big tip for her. Win-win. :)

Thanks! I think it was your wearing of L’Heure Bleue on Tuesday that prompted me. I should wear it more often.

Fantastic is the right word for L’Heure Bleue. :)

After some discussion about it the other day, I pulled out Guerlain Idylle today. I do rather like it as a nice office-friendly scent. Alas, no signs of spring here yet…rain forecast for as long as they can forecast :(

“Denny Crane!” A very happy birthday to Mr. Shatner.

Inspired by Glannys yesterday, my SOTD is Houbigant Orangers en Fleurs.

    Have a great day, all.

No spring scent for me today, since winter came roaring back in overnight. The cold wind is still rattling the windows of the house this afternoon. Bleh. SOTD = the original Agent Provocateur EdP, from a sample that is almost gone.

Yes, very much… I have it on the “getta bottle” list. It’s a chypre rose, or rose chypre on my skin. I would advise against buying this one blind, though, even if bottles are crazy cheap.

More rain this morning in San Diego, but it seems to have cleared up a bit, although more is expected tomorrow.

Feeling stressed this morning thinking about all the unpleasantness in the world, so I reached for Iris Nazarena, which is soothing.

I’ve been in Seville a L’Aube again today for lunch with friends. It was just too cold and windy for a Spring scent.

    Have a great evening all!

    SOTD = Puredistance Opardu

Lilac overload in the nicest way possible. Perfect for spring although not necessarily office-grinch, fragrance-free workplace safe.

I have a very important meeting tomorrow for which only No. 19 EDP or 31RC is appropriate. In attendance will be a person who is one heartbeat away from the CEO and his management team. Wish me luck!
