A very happy Pi Day to you all! (It's also International Ask A Question Day, but if you have questions about pi, don't bother asking me.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez Eau de Parfum, from my cute new travel bottle, with thanks to Hajusuuri.
Reminder: on 3/17, wear a perfume by Rodrigo Flores-Roux, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the I Ate Some Pie… And It Was Delicious mug is $10.99 at Amazon.
I forgot to spritz myself in EL Private Collection Jasmine White Moss on my way out. The hour loss is still scrambling my brain.
So it’s meh Commodity Orris, which sample spray I found at the bottom of my bag. Oh well. At least I am eating cake (Nigella’s clementine almond cake with a dash of orange water) for breakfast and lunch 😀
Cakes are where Nigella really shines, IMO. “How To Be A Domestic Goddess” is the most-used cookbook on my shelf.
I am not sure if I made any of her other cakes, but I have made this one several times 😀
If you don’t mind me asking, what are some of your favorite cakes of hers?
*busts in* My all-time favorite is her burnt butter brown sugar cupcakes; I also love the chocolate-pistachio cake and lemon syrup loaf. Those are all from Domestic Goddess.
I am salivating!
Oooh! This might be worth looking into. A local cupcakery makes brown butter cupcakes that are incredibly delicious. Lemon syrup loaf sounds divine.
that cake sounds great!
It is lovely! Better after a day in the fridge- moist and gently scented.
It is really good! My sister has made it several times, and I’ve been a lucky recipient. I bought some clementines yesterday. Hmmm….
I was thinking, “Maybe I’ll make a pie this afternoon.” When I saw your post I changed it to “Maybe I’ll make a cake.”
I will have pizza pie for dinner 😉 As much as I like math and science, I have never baked a pie in honor if pi day because I am more of a cake person.
I haven’t worn my Jasmine White Moss in a while. May need to pull that one out. Maybe we can both wear it tomorrow. I don’t think this one ever got the recognition it deserved. So underrated.
I have all of Nigella’s cookbooks! I LOVE her!!!
I love Nigella’s recipes! Not too difficult / time consuming.
To be honest, I dont mind cooking but I dont want to spend hours and hours in the kitchen, and I hate having a grocery list that is 2 metres long.
SotD: DK Gold EdT–it has to be at least a year since I wore this last. How can I forget about such a lovely scent? A spicy dryish lily with some smooth woods in the base.
S(ip)otD: The rest of my Harney All-India blend sample with a bit of Assam added in to make a mug’s worth.
Gold — yum!
This used to be a favorite of mine – I’ve been craving another bottle after looking over my choices for this week’s theme . . .
one of my allllll time favorites.
I’m pulling this one out for Friday, it’s really lovely.
Gold! A favorite of mine. You smell delicious.
Hey twin, I also haven’t worn this one in at least a year. It was still in bubble wrap from my move to a new apartment last Feb.
Triple strength coffee.
Early morning workout.
Waiting for snow/sleet/freezing rain to stop before, shoveling and cleaning off the car.
Breakfast of champions- fudgy chocolate brownie with a THICK coating of peanut butter.
If not now, when? LOL
😉
Hope everyone is doing well, and whatever weather and life throws your way today, you can manage.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Almost forgot- Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme, vetiver, leather, and cedarwood. Much better than anything else they’ve released in years.
Bear! Don’t forget my car!
(Seriously, this sleet is a pain. Once it all freezes, it will be too heavy for the snow blower. I have a feeling there won’t be school tomorrow either, and it isn’t even all that much snow. Yet.)
The wind is omnipresent, but the sun is peaking out.
Time to go to work! !!
Onward and upward!
😀
I’m curious about the Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme. Have to try it soon. All around Gucci day for me.. Gucci Envy splashed on and ordered a few samples of Gucci Rush; which i hope are authentic. Have a great day.
Thanks Downtown Scott !
You have a great day too.
I was sceptical about GGAPH because the other Guilty scents don’t work for me, but this is dry and well structured.
Cheers!
Oh dear, this one has been calling my name for weeks, I think you may have talked me into it
It is very nice tracy.o, not to enable. 😉
Well yeah, I’ll enable.
😀
“What better place than here
What better time than now”
Bear, your brownie-related question reminds me… I thought of you yesterday morning when I remembered what I think would make a great music-only substitute for triple-strength coffee–in the event of a coffee shortage or something: RATM!
Stay safe in that icy weather.
Ahhh, Rage.
Took my nieces to the Lollapalooza they were booed off the stage.
Why you ask?
They stood onstage nude, protesting. Something. Can’t remember what…….
RHCPs rocked !
Thanks Creosote!
The snow was heavy, but a good workout as long as one paces themselves.
Ha. Oh dear, your nieces!???? One of my fondest memories is of seeing Rage open for U2 and witnessing my friend–the sweetest girl you could imagine–sing along to the end of ‘Killing in the Name’…without actually fully singing the lyrics. ???? Still cracks me up decades later.
’92?
Sounds about right.
Funny how I can remember ’60s ’70s clearer than ’80s ’90s. LOL
Snow Snow Snow
We have Bob Marley going and hot tea flow’n
Drank some Guerlain Kool aid this morning and wearing Mon Guerlain from a manufacture sample. I was preparing for it to be sweet like my Gourmand Coquin but its not. It has zero sillage on me and fades fast. I am going to stick my neck out like a giraffe and say its not bad. You can throw tomatoes at me but just keep in mind there is a comment policy. 😉
My review coming up later today so I will keep my mouth shut 🙂
Ha Ha!
I layered mine with some lavender lotion because I was hoping it had more lavender in it
I am also trying Mon Guerlain from a sample, I find it nice, the lasting power is low and don’t smell any lavender either, I am enjoying it though.
Hey Twin! The lasting power was low on me. In fact its gone already!
When I consider something “bad” perfume wise I am usually running to the sink with a cloth and scrubbing it off. This was not the case.
It would make a good scent for those who work outside the home. The projection is low and its not offensive.
Betcha it is not gone, betcha it is the white musk inducing olfactory fatigue.
Ha!
Could be a community project “where perfumes that are still there but the white musk induced olfactory fatigue” ????
Love Bob Marley, that’s my lazy Sunday morning go to.
I bet the babies love it too!
I love to sing them the lyrics – everything is gonna be alright!
I will think of you on Sunday mornings playing Bob Marley ????
I got a sample and found that I got a lot of lavender ( and quite long lasting ) if I gave myself four good sprays. This also got me over the too sweet opening which I didn’t like. But definitely lavender after ten minutes and I wore it to bed last night and quite liked it. But the lavender itself feels a bit raw and sharp. Overall, much better than I expected but I wish it was richer, deeper, sexier, smarter etc. Just a bit thin.
AH..I will try it again and wait 10 minutes or so to see if the lavender pops up!
Thanks for sharing and giving me that information
I wore John Varvatos for women today (brifly), for this week’s community project. I first tried it several months before, today I’ve tried again – no, I definitely dislike it. Such a nice list of notes and such a disappointing scent.
But now I am wearing Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant – a great perfume for this cold day. Yum.
I cannot remember JV for women! But I really like JV Artisan.
I didn’t even know there was a JV for women. I do like most of the men’s versions.
Snow daaaay! I’m so, SO excited to curl up with a mug of Kusmi, a book, the cat, maybe even a sheet mask. SOTDSnowDay: What We Do In Paris Is Secret, the olfactive equivalent of the blanket I get to stay under all day!
What is a sheet mask??
Sheet masks are part of the Korean beauty product craze- they’re individually packaged fabric sheets soaked in facial mask ingredients. There’s a sheet mask for every skin concern, and the sheets themselves often come in cute designs. In fact, I freely admit that I bought this pug-themed sheet mask mainly for the cuteness: https://holikaholika.ca/products/cleansing/mask-sheet-cleansing/Baby-Pet-Mask-Sheet (N/A)
HA, no lie…right after posting my comment, I saw a Charlotte Tilbury one at Bergdorfs in the “new” section. I probably wouldn’t have noticed it before.
Yours are cuter though!
Are they reusable? Or you use once and throw away?
Ooooooh Robin!! I am ADDICTED to sheet masks! Find a Korean store (we have Super H here in Atlanta), where you can find gazillons of sheet masks of every type…..
One time use…the masks are saturated with product (enough), and work great!
Ulta has Tony Moly brand too…..
Here’s a look at some I bought recently, for about $1.00 each….

You NEED this luxury in your life! LOL
Really? Being forced to allot time to skin care does not seem like a luxury to me, it seems like work!
10-20 minutes…Make it YOUR time! LOL Find a good TV show (I just finished up Victoria on Masterpiece), and tell everyone in your house to figure life out without you for 10 minutes! 🙂
You deserve it!
I am a regular sheet mask user and also do mine at night while watching tv (in bed.) But I am a skincare junkie and don’t consider a long nighttime routine work – it’s a necessity I enjoy and set time out for every night. (I’ve actually designed my entire p.m. routine to be done in bed, start to finish.)
I’ve given sheet masks to my mom and sister who have a mindset more like Robin’s and I don’t think either of them have ever used one. So perhaps ne’er the twain shall meet 😉
I will say, though, that they combat dry skin like nothing else – especially the deep winter/high summer variety when it seems impossible to get enough moisture into your skin no matter what you do. And since I’ve been using them regularly I haven’t experienced that seasonal transition skin freak-out that used to happen. I’d have a couple of weeks of break-outs and/or dry, flaky skin going from fall to winter or spring to summer. Now my skin looks good and is well-hydrated year-round.
But if you’re not the kind of person who wants to chill for 20-30 minutes with a mask on your face on a regular basis, nothing I have to say will convince you 😉
kpaint,
For the last couple of years, I’ve also starting pay real close attention to my skin care regimen. Hyperpigmentation is the main thing I’m trying to chase away! I also have several products on my nightstand, and do 3 or 4 steps while watching TV or nagging the kids about their homework….
I’ll never do away with my melasma, but I can definitely see a big difference since doing evening serums and such, and SUNSCREEN every single day of the year…..And I do enjoy laying back and telling everyone that I can’t possibly help them at the moment! LOL 🙂
Maybe it is because I am so expert at refusing to help my family anyway, LOL…but you guys have not convinced me that I should have to put a sheet on my face just to get my chill time 😉
Sheet masks are pretty great, but my favorites are the hand and foot masks. me idea–one use and you’re done. I got some foot masks from The Yeon, and my feet have never been so soft. Also, kind of gross, but all the old dead skin came off.
Experienced snow days at my family’s this winter break and not sure a day off is worth the hassle of shoveling afterward. The tea, a book, and a cat (or dog in my case) sounds great however.
I love snow days! The idea of them is romantic but the practical side…not so much. Enjoy!
At home today due to the blizzard. At 7am I sprayed in a good amount of S.L Ambre Sultan to face the weather and went out to go to work, but I only made 10 minutes of my daily 20 minute walk to the subway station. Waiting for the bus to make the connection was impossible. Buses are running with extensive delays, so I decided it was not worthy to go thru all the hassle, especially with all tbe snow and mostly ice blowing in your face. I am now snuggled in the couch with my doggy, drinking coffee, watching tv and enjoying the big dose of Ambre that is still lingering on my sweater. Stay safe all of you who are in the path of the storm.
I may have said this here before, but my second graders thought Ambre Sultan smelled like brownies when I wore it teaching one day 🙂
I always get a slight chocolate note from A.S. that I enjoy. Today from the first spray I got mostly incense and pretty strong, which I adore.
I bet you got a lot of hugs that day 🙂
Good for you for trying, but smart to turn around. I only live 1 block from the subway so I don’t have much excuse, except no one is in my office today.
Enjoy your snowday!
Glad you made it. The commute back shouldn’t be so bad. I didn’t like the idea of staying home when I have so much work waiting for me. Anyway, I hope this is the last storm of the season.
I am WFH today and will likely do so tomorrow. I have 3 calls tonight with some Asia Pacific colleagues.
Good if you don’t have to go out, even though the snow wasn’t as bad as expected.
Enjoy your snow day. You smell great!
Thank you ????
Unusually warm here today (San Francisco) and my usual warm weather scent is Profumi del Forte – Tirrenico. I tried a sample of FM Iris Poudre instead. Will see how it does in warm weather.
What I would not give to be in San Francisco right now!
It’s a lovely spring day in my part of Texas, so I’m wearing La Tulipe.
You smell great!
La Tulipe is so pretty!
I’ve never been bothered before by time changes, but this one has got my number. The past few days I’ve stayed up way too late (by the clock), haven’t been able to fall asleep once I went to bed, have woken up too late — and been groggy and grumpy to boot! Yesterday morning I caught myself just before I put a scoop of (dry) oatmeal into the coffee filter basket. I ran out of the house with awful hair, no makeup, and worst of all, no perfume! Gah!
Okay, rant over. Channeling Scarlett O’Hara, tomorrow (today, actually) is another day… One very large mug of properly made coffee is down, and I’m contemplating what perfume to put on. I intend to apply a lot.
Peace and goodwill to all!!
Ha! Ugh. I feel you.
I am in the same boat. I cannot fall asleep, once I go to bed. I might need to stop drinking coffee in the afternoon for few days, until I catch up with the change.
I might need to stop drinking coffee in the afternoon for few days – Blasphemy ! I say !
LOLOLOL 😉
I am right there with you, FearsMice. This time change has kicked my butt.
Spring forward is hard 🙁
My H told me that his boss was going to have everyone come in an hour early yesterday, thinking the time change was in the reverse. They normally get there at 6 and he wanted everyone in at 5. Fortunately, my H set him straight! Sheesh
Gucci Envy for me. Makes me feel great during a winter revisit.
I’m in Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka thanks to the split sponsored by the lovely Hajusuuri. I do believe I could wear this one all year long, even in the Texas heat.
Driving across town this morning to spend some time with my dad and sisters.
I hope everyone stays safe in the inclement weather, wherever you are. 🙂
This was SOTD yesterday – I love it!
No. 19 EDP for me today. Wallowing in its green gorgeousness.
Beautiful!
Wearing my second perfume from the antique sale: a mini of original Poison. Certainly not subtle but quite rich and curvy.
Yum!
Man… What wouldn’t I give to be rich and curvy?!! 😀
I have the convex curves down pat, just can’t get the concave ones.
I love the description of it as rich and curvy. So true. This is such a phenomenal classic, you don’t need it to be subtle. Show off those curves and spend that money!
Rich and curvy indeed!
I have a mini of the Esprit de Parfum. I wish I had a bigger bottle. The Esprit formulation is a bit warmer and less bold than the edt, I think. But its been a while since I smelt original Poison.
I tried the new formula a few months ago but it was pretty screechy. I went shopping after that and think I scared off a lot of other people 🙁
I love (vintage) Poison and have 2 esprit minis and a large bottle of the edt. I am curious to try the current one, which I’ve never smelled. But it should be easy enough to find next time I’m at a mall.
So funny I saw a 15 ml of the esprit on ebay or a similar site for 150 euros, the 5 ml minis are going for 15-25 euros… Of course a bigger bottle is beautifull, but if its just the juice you want you are cheaper of when buying 3 minis haha
Let me know if you want to try the current Poison. I can send you some. I have a bottle of the EdT that I barely wear.
I really, really was planning on taking my online Infection Control test today, but have veered off course and am once again focusing on testing my decants. I couldn’t do both, right?
Left arm, Gourmand Coquin. Right arm, Tonka Imperiale. The former reminds me of a much sweeter Anima Dulcis, and the latter reminds me of Kiss Me Tender. Must devote myself to studying further. 😉
Perfume is your study aid!
Yes!
I like Gourmand Coquin. I will be sad when my small decant runs out.
Well, um …. there IS that STC sale going on. I just happened to wind up on the site and it’s on there. 😀
Oh! I knew TPC had brought them back. Didn’t realize STC had. Thanks
I’m pretty loyal to STC, but there are also a couple of other newer decanters that carry some of the Guerlains and Chanels. STC will not ship Guerlain to NY, which is where I believe Lovestosmellgood lives. 🙁 I believe Scentsplit does not have that restriction, and they’re reliable and have sales, too.
you are right Holly!
I do not know why that is..I feel discriminated against as a new yorker! HA … 🙂
Kidding.
I will try this other site you recommended!
Right! For science…
Exactly!
I like them both!
I know you do! I wonder when Suzan will be going to Paris … 😉
Found a teeny tiny decant of Worth Courtesan in my box last night and spritzed before going to bed. This morning I woke up and thought, “What is that beautiful smell?”, so I spritzed some more. It is discontinued, but there are lots of bottles on eBay, and I may just make one my own. It has a bunch of somewhat odd notes, according to Fragrantica, but I really like it.
I had a sample of Courtesan a few years ago, and really liked it, too. I’ve toyed with buying a bottle myself, but think you should go ahead and pull the trigger on eBay! (grinning evilly)
Checked fragrancenet and it’s even cheaper there. What could I do? Come on, FearsMice, join me and we both will get enabler pins.
That does have a really nice drydown, doesn’t it? Sort of lived-in-skin smell.
I haven’t headed out yet into the nastiness of a sleet storm, but after a hot shower and a spritz of VC&A Gardenia Petale(thanks Kpaint!), I feel like I’m in a tropical paradise 😀
This one’s nice and probably wouldn’t have sought it out otherwise. A little green, but juicy green, jasmine, a hint of suntan oil, and a little gardenia.
my other half went to work..I don’t know why..he didn’t have to.
Your SOTD is something I should be wearing while listening to Mr. Bob Marley.
Your morning party at your place sounded like fun! Yes, something tropical would be a good match.
I might have mentioned this already, but Bob Marley’s daughter did a picture book for kids which is basically the words to One Love and lots of great colourful pictures. I have it in my library, wish I could lend it to your babies.
Wow!
I will look for this, I would love to read them that
Good rec, I’ll have to look it up.
That juicy green note reminds me a lot of Baiser Vole edp. I wonder if I’m alone in this? The notes for Gardenia Petale don’t list lily as a component, but I catch a big dose of it. It also brings to mind Anais Anais, particularly texturally. Both make me feel like there’s a thick white cloud swirling around me, if that makes sense.
I haven’t smelled either Baiser Vole or Anais Anais in a long time so can’t help you there. But there does seem to be a hint of spice in tgere which may give it a lily vibe, especially in the beginning.
No snow in Memphis but it’s cold, dark and damp. I’m feeling cozy in Byredo 1996.
Question: has anyone tried the new L’Artisan Parfumeur Natura Fabularis Collection? The Candy Perfume Boy reviewed the perfumes yesterday. A few sound promising.
Have only tried Tenebrae. Very pleasant, but mostly a quiet woody incense on me, not ground-breaking.
I have a sample of Violaceum. It’s nice but I’m not ready to commit to a FB, pretty though the bottle is.
I really love Violaceum 2 and the something Glacialis is really nice too. Ross Arcana has something in it that bothers me and is the least ️interesting of the bunch. I have little dabbers from STC and haven’t yet fully tried the Otjer three.
I love violet so I’m especially curious about Violaceum. Glad to know STC has these.
After yesterday’s light jasmine (La Haie Fleurie) today is a heavier rendition of white flowers with Enlèvement au Sérail. It’s so, so gorgeous.
Tea is an Assam based Earl Grey.
I am drinking Mariage Freres Roi something Earl Grey, but do not like it and likely going to mix it in my big tin of Earl Grey Failures.
Roi des Earl Grey perhaps? I had some of that once. I did enjoy it, but I like my Earl Grey Odessa Bio better.
Yeah, that’s it. Meh. And I ordered the French Breakfast and don’t like that either. Serves me right.
Try Earl Grey Provence, it’s an Early Grey with lavender, and it’s gorgeous.
I will if I do another order, but I’ve kind of decided that while there are a few MF teas I really adore, I do better in general elsewhere. Plus, at other companies I can easily order samples.
But should have said — thank you for the rec, even if I am displeased with MF 🙂
The snow totally missed us in Pittsburgh. My son was quite disappointed to not have a school delay! SOTD is SSS Winter Woods. Now that I “get” amber, this is moving up on my FB list.
That a great one! You smell fantastic!
My kids use to hate it when the expected delay/snow day didn’t happen!
The tradition here at my school is that in order to get a snow day you have to wear your pyjamas inside out the night before.
Mmm, you smell extra good!
When I lived in Pittsburgh, I don’t remember the snow ever missing us! However, I also don’t remember anything ever getting cancelled as a result of the weather anyway.
SOTD is Emotional Rescue – one of my Olfactif samples that arrived yesterday. It pleasant enough, but is pretty nondescript on me.
I liked the initial scent of this when first sprayed, but the dry down was not as nice on me. But, I am wearing Pillow Talk and like both the initial and the dry down. What did you think of PT? And the Dame fragrance was nice too, but I think that Pillow Talk was my favorite out of the three.
I liked both the open and the dry down of pillow talk, but there are three hours of just vanilla gourmand that turned me off completely (Vanilla and I have a … complicated relationship)
On first sniff, I liked Pillow Talk the best of the 3 and I put that on last night. I was really jazzed about it at first as I don’t have anything with a lot of pepper in it. But it definitely turned vanilla on me, which isn’t a bad thing. I just wished the pepper would last longer. I may wear Earth Mother tomorrow. We’ll see. Out of all the samples I’ve received so far, I like The Mauve best. But I haven’t pulled any triggers on a full bottle purchase.
That was my reaction! I really loved it, it was for sure my favorite out of the three but couldn’t figure out how on earth I could justify picking up a bottle when I already own the perfectly serviceable Guerlain Vetiver
That cup needs to be flung down, stomped on, and trashed because it reminds me of my recent statistics class. Maybe an extreme reaction?
SOTD Is the leftovers of last might’s ELDO Putain des Palaces. Thought I’d give it another whirl before possibly rehoming it, and yeah, it’s just a tad bit too sweet for a tad bit too long. Now, 10 hours later, it’s perfect. Go figure ????
Maybe a little extreme!
Having second thoughts?
No, you?
I’m contemplating… Will get back to you in the next couple of days.
Hope the snow is not too bad – sounds hairy.
SOTD is Iris de Nuit on a grey but mild spring day in London. And I had pflaumenkuchen from a visiting German bakery van.
You smell lovely.
U smell lovely, Iris de Nuit is on my spring wish list.
Mmm, Pflaumenküchen!
I am staying well away from cakes and desserts though. I wore a suit for the first time since December yesterday. I had to contort myself to get the damn waist button closed and I look like a muffin pouring out of its pleated paper. :^S
Been there, done that !
My condolences. 🙂
Lovely spring day in Texas with vivid green buds on the trees outside (=POLLEN!). I took an antihistamine and sprayed Oscar by Oscar de la Renta on myself. I have an old bottle of EDT and it’s really a pretty scent. It’s not “me” but very springy and floral-spicy. Actually it is nice and cheerful for this lazy day of spring break.
My mother had a bottle of that and the powder that went along with it.
I think that’s what I’m feeling this morning – pollen overload. I live in Houston, and my car is now green because it is covered with so much pollen. I am enjoying the crisp chill that’s in the air, but just can’t breathe. Guess we can’t have it all…….
I’m headed to Austin tomorrow. I’ll pack my antihistamines. Thanks for the heads up!
Are you going to South by Southwest? I always hear how much fun it is. Enjoy your trip! Austin may be a bit behind us here in Houston (pollen-wise).
No, I’m going to visit my family. I had no idea it was SxSw when I booked my ticket. I’m not looking forward to the crowds everywhere …????
I love the original Oscar de la Renta. The parfum is exquisite (and quite different from the edt.) Also love the modern version, Esprit d’Oscar. I always think of it as a cheap thrill, but it’s actually very elegant and just happens to be very inexpensive.
Hopefully your antihistamines will allow you to enjoy your spring!
You smell great. Hope the allergens don’t give you too much trouble!
Love the old Oscar. You smelled great today.
Bel Ami (Hermes). Cold and dreary here today, this hits the spot.
Perfect choice!
SOTD is Dame Perfumery Musk Oil, barely noticeable (first experience with perfume oil, not satisfying)
I don’t like perfume oils, in general: low sillage, and (oddly) greatly reduced longevity. Probably my skin.
Maybe because it’s a musk? I’ve had that experience with other musk oils. I have a couple of perfume oils that are pretty potent and do project. I first thought that since they are oils, I should apply more heavily. I was uncomfortably wrong about that.
Don’t care for either oils or solids.
Awwww, Robin, don’t you just love that NR scent? I know eventually, I will have to buy a FB. And those little travel sizes are so handy and cute.
SOTD is “Pillow Talk” from 4160 Tuesdays. Probably just staying in today and lay around in bed, so this scent is fitting and comforting.
Hope everyone is having a good week so far. 🙂
10 ml is the perfect amount!
I love Narciso edp and edt and bought FBs because the bottles are so great-looking. But the minis in that set are almost as satisfying – cute and tiny!
We didn’t get much snow here, but we sure did get ice so I’m home for the morning. I treated myself to an order of samples from Luckyscent, so I’m trying Amouage Jubilation 25 for the first time. I think I’m in love.
Jub 25 is incredibly beautiful isn’t it?, I wanted a bottle for so long, and received one for Christmas. U smell ravishingly beautiful!
In Escentric 01 today. Not a love but it’s cozy and I’m enjoying it. I need Spring to return!
Sampling? I’ve tried this one a few times and wanted to like it so badly. I love the whole concept behind it but it is so woody on me that I literally smell like pencil shavings.
Yes, sampling. I’ve heard a lot about it so thought I’d give it a shot. I enjoy it. Definitely woody but the lime/peppery opening is just too brief for me and then it’s nice and woody but just meh. So it’s warm and nice but not something I’d like a full bottle of. It kinda reminds me of Gypsy Water, but I like Gypsy Water better.
I do a lot of sampling too. It’s fun to be able to check something off the list.
So many scents, so little time!
My husband HATED that. He rarely reacts, but that one…wow.
That’s funny, my boyfriend keeps saying how great I smell and I just don’t get it haha! It’s okay but not “great” lol.
Yeah, that’s how I felt too. It was definitely not worth fighting for.
Interesting, I was just reading Katie Puckrik’s review of this over the weekend. She debunked most of the initial hype around this as a pheromone said most people liked it, cautioned NEVER to use more than two sprays (at most), and warned that a few people HATE it.
Sounds like Katie P was spot on with her review. I wish she would resume.
I miss her, too!
I’m wearing John Galliano EDP on one wrist and Juliette Has a Gun Mad Madame on the other because when I was sampling one it reminded me of the other (I can’t remember which way ’round- I think JG made me think of Mad Madame, but my notes don’t say)
Report: John Galliano is softer, quieter, with less projection, and without either the ambroxan or the dark berry notes of Mad Madame while adding aldehydes instead. Most of the similarity is just the concept of musk-tinged rosy floral. Honestly I think I like the John Galliano better- I think it’s a more rounded composition and actually quite elegant for something that comes in a 30$ bottle. Mad Madame is a lot like John Galliano’s wild baby cousin, I think.
I have not smelled either of those, putting them on my to try list
Taking Gaze back to the eye doctor today – regular appointment, but he wants to discuss why he failed the military eye exam as well. 🙁 Not looking forward.
But I’m wearing Dolce Vita parfum and I smell good.
Poor Gaze. And poor mom!
Good thoughts headed your way for the doctor appointment!
Eye appointment I mean!
Poor u and Gaze, really difficult for u both.
I feel so bad for your son’s disappointment. It breaks a mama’s heart. I loved the original Dolce Vita, you smell great!
Tuesday! Here in PDX, no snow but plenty of grey and rain!
1) Am in Cristalle Eau Verte (from a sample).
2) Am now starting a lifting program for the next 12 weeks, and my goodness does it look to be tough. 3 strength days, 2 cardio days with one stretching day, an hour per day. And we will be lifting relatively heavier than I am used to. OY!
Good luck with your new regimen! I haven’t been to spin class in about 2 months…feeling it , too. Not in a good way.
I am really looking forward to it! I do exercise but fell off doing a structured regime since moving. I really do miss having a structured regime.
Sotd: a lovely mixture of Gris Montaigne, Noir de Noir, and Fleur de
Chine… I was making samples this morning! ????????
It’s a beautiful sunny, snow on the ground day here. Love sunny days after snow storms!
Robin, I offered NR edp for pretty cheap during the splitmeet. No takers. More for me!????
Scent twins (well, fraternal–not the layered composition)! I’m in the perfect for today Gris Montaigne… (taps lip with index finger, and thinks “hmmmm, now where did this lovely come from?”)
It’s a great no-brainer fragrance for me. And I don’t have to worry about offending anyone…(Coromandel, I’m looking at you! ????)
I’ve never smelled Gris Montaigne, but love both of the other ones. I bet you smell fantastic!
I was so, so tempted by so, so many of the split offerings!! But I’m on a no-buy and have managed to stick to it so far.
I’m also on a low-sodium diet, and mentions of cakes, brownies, pies and so forth is killing me just as much as all the talk of perfume lovelies that I’m not buying…
If you’re in the US, I’d be happy to send you some to try. My email: laugsb at sbcglobal dot net
Thank you, that’s tremendously kind!
What a great mug! My dad is a retired science and math teacher and he would have loved it back in the day.
SOTD is Lea. Just as cozy and wonderful as I remember. It’s the perfect combination of almond and vanilla.
I think I’ll make a pie today. The kind that goes from freezer to oven of course, but that still counts, right? Lol.
Stay warm and safe everyone!
I am wearing and loving the Tobacco and Mandarin scent from the Jo Malone Bloomsbury collection!
I don’t think I ever got a chance to smell that one. Tobacco and mandarin together……interesting combo.
Moved to 1st place on my wish list, after smelling it last week! 🙂 Mmmmmmm
No snow here! Just gray dreary rain. HURRY SPRING!! I am winter fatigued!
SOTD: Chloe Fleur de Parfum. To my nose, smells exactly like Chloe for the most part, and length of duration is zilch. 2 hours in, and I can only smell if my nose is touching my arm. This sample came in this month’s Sephora Play! box..
Stay warm and cozy if you have snow. Stay cool and comfy if you are in the heat of summer! 🙂
Your video yesterday reminded me that I’d been given a sample of Daisy Dream, so I’m trying it out today–thanks!
I hope you like it! It’s nothing earth shattering, but it works anywhere! 🙂
I’m wearing a wee bit of Chanel No. 22. I think I got some in my coffee unfortch; it now tastes like soap.
Doesn’t taste nearly as nice as it smells! Oops! 🙂
Blech. But you *smell* great!
If I owned Arquiste Ella, I would have worn it today. Instead my SOTD is Gris Montaigne.
Here’s the deal with Gris Montaigne–the imagery and even the name are all wrong. This one, by another name, WOULD smell more sweet… or, well at least garner more enthusiasm. It is so not austere cool grey and rose.
If I close my eyes and sniff it, and try to free associate it, I think of resins and florals from a garden of flowers and shrubs that’s been soaked in a night rain but is now heating up in the morning sun.
I would like to own Ella too, such a shame it only comes in 100ml bottles!
Hope I have the opportunity to try Ella soon. The ’70/80s disco era association sounds right up my alley!
Most of the school here are closed due to snow – but not my kids’ school. Hubby is home warm and snug as his work is closed. No fair. I am in Coromandel and trying hard to not be grouchy.
You smell wonderful, at any rate.
Cute mug.
So… so much for our big snow storm. Got lots of ice hitting our windows, and some snow, but.. ???
My husband and I were talking last night about how we never had snow days when we were kids. Maybe, just maybe, one snow day every other year. I remember getting up and sitting by the radio listening to all the school closings, desperately hoping mine would be announced.
SOTD: the lovely Chergui
You smell wonderful!
Great choice for this day, and I also had that experience with snow days as a kid.
You smell fantastic.
453 was the magic number !! LOL
Chanel Cuir de Russie.
It is currently 52 degrees (Farenheit) here, and to me this is COLD! I am a wimp when it comes to the colder temperatures.
Have a wonderful day and stay warm everyone.
1) You smell great
2) 52 F IS cold! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! 😉
You smell fabulous! You don’t want to know what a desert gal like me considers ‘cold’! ????
Oeillet Bengale as I prepare to walk about 10 blocks into the wind. This isn’t a fun storm. This is icky.
Be careful out there!! Agree that this one’s just icky.
Easy going out there!
Stay warm. It is so cold and windy out there.
PSA: Surrender to Chance has 15% off today with the code PIDESOFMARCH. (no affiliation)
And some items are further discounted (it seemed pretty random)
Also, stuff that starts with. G and ends in an uerlain are up.
Not enough snow in the Cheese state to warrant a snow day 🙁
I’m craving aldehydes so I wore No 5 EDT yesterday and today I am comparing my sample of Liu current version to the No 5. They’ve got the same feel initially, but Liu turns into vanilla, which seems disjointed to me.
Verdict – I like Liu’s top notes better but No 5 better overall. I guess I like my Guerlinade best with lavender.
Ooh tomorrow I should dig out my sample is Arpege.
Happy Tuesday!
A sample of Florentina from Delacourte, the “almond musk.” This is probably nothing I’d ever pick again, but so far it’t not driving me nuts.
(sorry?)
I didn’t care for it either
It’s true, it’s not great, and getting not-great-er.
SOTD is Stella McCartney POP EdP. I have to be honest: this isn’t a great perfume. But it’s bright and cheery and I am beating my drum for spring so bright and cheery is exactly what I want today (which is a dreary rainy day here in Seattle).
Hope the Pop kept your spirits up!
Does anyone remember wearing Tramp (Lentheric) back in the late 1970s? I am trying to recall what it smells like but all I can remember is that it was a little spicy and a little sweet, but that’s as far as my brain allows. Was it a bit like Tweed? It’s bugging me now.
Have a happy Pi day!
At the dentist’s office right now wearing Jicky today. Not looking forward to it.
I’m sure Jicky helps a bit with the unease. Unless you connect it to going to the dentist for all eternity.
Good luck! You smell fantastic.
Testing some Bruno Fazzolari samples. Feu Secret combines soft cool iris and an almost milky warm wood, very unusual. In fact, it’s so odd that I will need to try it a few more times to decide if I like it or not. Narcisse Au Dela is such a pretty soft floral. I also have Five and Cadavre Exquise (which I am skeered to try, TBH).
It’s intriguing that this visual artist is one of the most interesting perfumers now. I wonder how much his synesthesia has to do with that?
http://www.brunofazzolari.com/blog/2017/2/28/synesthesia
Thanks for the link. I didn’t realize he was a visual artist. The packaging is really lovely.
I’m with you on the cadavre. Just the name makes me quite queasy.
It’s not supposed to smell like a cadaver but rather an actual person, but I’m not sure I want to smell that, either. I will, though, eventually, because it’s there.
I’ve got a sample of NaD and agree about being a pretty floral. I was disappointed the narcissus wasn’t more prominent. The new Feu Secret sounds very interesting. I like to smell perfumes that are puzzling even if I don’t want to wear them.
I’m wearing Marc Jacobs Bang today. I rarely wear it.. actually I think I’d only worn it once, so I decided to go with it. I thought about layering it with something else to femme it up a bit but decided it was good on its own.
I liked Bang! Don’t think it was a hit, though.
Vintage (old that is) Mitsouko Parfum.
It is well known that Mitsouko doesn’t age very well and it has started to go a bit off in the top. It soon perks up though.
Pi? Hmm….3.1415926 (7 if you stop there, 6 if you continue so the next must be larger than 5) is as far as I can remember. You don’t need to know more, really.
Yep, it’s a good reason to just go on and wear whatever Mitsouko you may have. You smell wonderful!
I woke up thinking, Rose Vermielle!, so Rose Vermielle it is. This may be the sweetest thing I wear on a regular basis. My little decant is almost gone. I think I will need to get a FB. I get no little allergy warning tickles from it. If I had a whole bottle, I suspect I would wear it a lot. It is still 19 degrees with a biting wind here, but the sun is shining. We have the outflow of the East Coast storm. I still have one friend is is with out power, 7 days now. Ugh.
I’ve been meaning to wear Apres L’ondee for at least a week but kept getting distracted. Not today – the aniseed is stronger than I remember, which is actually quite nice.
I started out this morning in Oriental Express. It doesn’t last very long on me, so at lunch I switched to Casmir for this frigid cold day.
SoTD is Ormonde Woman.
Tomorrow is election day here in The Netherlands.
I dont want to discuss politics and I know I am not allowed (so thankfull for that by the way, it gets nasty so easily), but these are very exciting times for all big parties involved, and even international media are paying close attention. On top of that there is a diplomatic clash between the netherlands and Turkey. Journalists are probably working overtime. 😉
You smell great.
I saw a piece on the election on american tv last night. Hope things end up well 🙁
Snow day today!!! Technically working from home, but not much work going on. So far, I’ve had a nap and made pancakes. Still scentless, but trying to convince my kid to come outside for sledding (she’s getting over being ill, and wants no part of sledding today). If sledding happens, I’ll need something really warm and spicy to stand up to all that cold.
Yay for sledding! I wish we had hills and snow here once in a while. Mostly its flat and wet here.
For me incense scents also work in snowy weather 🙂
Never mind, I’m reading from the bottom up and just saw your post! ????
Thanks anyways 🙂 its hard to keep track of everyone’s whereabouts.
I just googled it and a well known drug store chain at least carries it online.
But I want to try before I buy, even when its only 20 euros. 🙂
I haven’t tried it yet either. There is a You Tube blogger in the Netherlands who goes by Delicious Delights. She did a review of Stash very recently. She is a good reviewer so it may possibly be something you can check out. If you’ve already heard of her and watched this video, please disregard.
I am going to check that Youtube channel!
(I dont watch that many video reviews, so I never heard of her.
I am more of a reader, but it sure is nice for a change) Thanks 🙂
Raining, I’m wearing Stash, and the cat hates it and is giving me the cold shoulder. I’m not much for pie, and even less for math, but somehow I’m taking an online algebra class. I thought I might like it better if I did it voluntarily, rather than as a requirement, but no, I still dislike it. However, now I can laugh when I make stupid mistakes instead of agonizing over passing the course with a high grade. I still think it’s curious when I am asked to calculate something like the length of a triangle’s side, or the speed of trains passing each other because IRL I have never had to do such a thing.
Stash gets a lot of mentions here!
You are really making me curious. I wonder if its sold here…its not very expensive, right? maybe try a few drugstores tomorrow.
If you are in the US, I know it’s sold at Ulta
I think it might ONLY be sold at Ulta
I’m with your cat on Stash, and love algebra. I’ve used it extensively in my past 2 careers, as well as in life-in-general. Hope it breaks through for you!
Oh, wait – make that 3 careers. Okay, I’ve used algebra in pretty much every job I’ve had, though to a lesser and greater extent depending.
Very good morning, NST. It’s Wednesday, but I have been feeling it’s Thursday since yesterday morning, and I want it to be Saturday. My orientation in time is all up the creek at the moment.
Monday a huge parcel arrived on my desk, and many layers of wrapping later revealed a bottle of Beloved from wonderful Kanuka! So, no surprises about what perfume I wore yesterday, to bed, today, tomorrow….it’s so pretty. I’ve built my outfits around it; I’ve wafted it at Dakkie and Isabella (Dak was confused, but that’s his normal state) and I have thrust my wrist out st any one who shows even the slightest inclination to stop and chat to me. I even asked my archetypically absent-minded-professor colleague what he thought. He was more confused than Dak, but sometimes I get a mean streak.
If you can’t be well and Beloved, then be well and beloved, but if you can, be both.
Beloved is so beautiful. What a generous gift!
You smell gorgeous! Enjoy wafting Beloved’s magic at those around you. ????
Nice!!
Le Beau Male from my stash of 4 unpacked perfumes.I had to dig out Hellstone from Lush last night, just to feel like a proper perfumista again!Happy Tuesday!
SOTD is Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream from a manufacturer’s sample I was given by my mom. I’m 3.14159265…% sure I like it. ???? Ha, just kidding; it’s quite nice.
Have a lovely Pi/Question Day!
Home today due to the “blizzard”. Although we did pick up several inches, it has already turned to rain and sleet. It was nice to have the day off. I slept later than usual, made chicken stock this morning and already have tonight’s dinner ready to go. I just applied Rahele after taking a late shower. I’m really enjoying it again today.
Enjoy your day off.
Thank you, I am! ????
Have been saving a generous decant of SHL 777 (is it aircraft? No, but the full name is too long to spell out) Rose de Petra for a “special occasion.” (Thanks, elisa!) I guess I decided that waiting for Pest Control to take care of the ant swarms in my kitchen and bathroom was just that special day, so I’m wearing it now. (And still waiting for the [ex]Terminator, who is now 4 hours late and probably not coming.)
Wow, is this a beauty. Beautiful rose accord joined by spices. Smells, and is, expensive. I’m actually a little concerned that my other roses might smell cheap by comparison…
Really should not take advantage of the STC sale, but am pondering anyway. I’m curious about the YSL Le Vestiaire des Parfums collection. Has anyone tried them? Are they worth testing?
RdP is lovely and reminds me very much of Mohur.
Joining monkeytoe in DK Gold, but I’m wearing the EDP. One of these days I’d like to try the EDT to compare, but I’m perfectly happy with the performance of the EDP.
Also, the coworker whom I share an office with and is sensitive to perfume is on vacation this week. So I luxuriously gave my skin 6 or 7 sprays, my hair 2 sprays, and my shirt 2 sprays! Figure I better take advantage.
You aren’t kidding around! Love it ????
SOTD = AG Ambre Fetiche. Still on my amber kick. I’m giving the great outdoors the stink eye today… The trees right outside my window are covered in 1/4 inch of ice.
SOTD = AG Ambre Fetiche. Still on my amber kick. I’m giving the great outdoors the stink eye today… The trees right outside my window are covered in 1/4 inch of ice.
Whoops! Seem to have double posted my dislike of freezing rain.
Maybe if you post it 3 times, the ice will go away. ( seriously, I’m superstitious that way:) )
SOTD and Dior #2 is “Ambre Nuit”.
Notes: grapefruit, bergamot, rose, pink pepper and amber.
A perfectly serviceable amber. Not worth going out of your way for though.
Oversprayed Ylang 49 today and it’s killing me… off to shower and switch to Oriental Express.
So tired and so busy today, I agree the clock change has been tough. In the past two days I went past a gas station at least 5 times, yet my car’s tank is still almost empty. Can. not. think.
Scentless so far, but I’ll have a few spritzes of Apres L’ondee this evening post-shower, with thanks to nicolasix for the inspiration.
