Happy Booze Cruise Friday! (Plus, National Mario Day, Harriet Tubman Day and International Bagpipe Day.) Our community project for today: wear a perfume with a booze note. Thanks to Koenigsberg for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
My drink of choice today is rum, in the form of Serge Lutens Chêne. Perfect for what turned out to be a cold, snowy morning.
Reminder: on 3/17, wear a perfume by Rodrigo Flores-Roux, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the image is via Barrel House Distilling Company in Kentucky, and shows their Oak Rum: "Award Winning Kentucky Oak Rum is aged for four years in once used bourbon barrels before being bottled at barrel strength. This fine rum is best served neat, on the rocks, or as a substitute for a fine bourbon in an Old Fashioned or Manhattan."

And right off the bat, we have a winner 🙂
May I please have some of what he is having ??
LOL, enjoy your lie down.
That’s the spirit(s)!And I love you for wearing Bendelirious.My favorite party-perfume!Lol.
I want what you’re having 😀
I need to try this. Could you please report tomorrow morning of any side effects of using this perfume (headache, nausea, wishing you were dead etc.)?
Go home Bob…You’re drunk! 🙂
Today he might even be tempted to buy a few of those DKNY Be Delicious apples that he LOVES…..
Wash your mouth out! There ain’t enough booze in the world to make THAT happen.
LOL!
Way to go, Jada – you sobered him right up!
Better than hot coffee and a cold shower! hee hee
Hahahah 😀
Haha! BobH, always the life of the party:)
May I have your keys, please?
ha ha! 🙂
Yes, BobH, go have a little nap. Here’s a blankie for you. Sleep tight.
???? Couldn’t resist.
Bravo! ;^D
Excellent!
???? Nailed it, BobH!
Good for an afternoon laugh!
No booze here
Spent the morning outside in the snow with the little ducklings
Thanks to some generous NST SOTD is Cristalle
What a lovely way to start the day!
Wonderful!
(Ha ha, my eye initially caught multiple lines of text at once, and my brain put together “upside down in the snow”. That’d be fun, too…)
that would be fun!
I am sure they would love that..next time
Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder ????
In the deliciously dreamy Nasomatto Absinth.
Nice! I have yet to find my perfect absinthe fragrance, but I have not given up.
I can’t tell you all how stunned I was last night when I came back to yesterday’s SOTD poll and find over 30 messages in response to my Roxy cat’s passing. You guys are so kind and loving! Your support means the world to me. Thank you for taking a minute out of your day to honor him.
Yesterday was very cathartic for me. Between reading your messages and going through the cremation process, I’ve gotten most of my tears out and am starting to feel better. (That and the fact that I snuck a cinnamon roll into the crematorium and rubbed a little frosting on his mouth so I could send him off with one last treat. That was pretty darn satisfying.) What’s left of him is back home with me now, where he belongs, and I’m ready to start healing.
No booze for me. SOTD is Aquolina Pink Sugar again, and it probably will be for a few more days. Thank you all dearly!
Sorry I missed your post yesterday, and sorry for your cat’s passing.
Thank you. The love and support I’ve found here has been amazing.
Lucy I missed yesterday’s posts. I’m so sorry to hear about your darling boy- I know exactly how painful a loss that is. And I want to add that you are the best cat mum evah for giving him some cinnamon bun icing. He totally lucked out getting to be your kitty companion 🙂
It seems I’ve joined a club no one wants to be a part of. 🙁
Thank you. I really tried my best with him.
Oh, I love the cinnamon roll and frosting story! Good for you, and stay wrapped in your Pink Sugar.
Thank you. Everything happened so fast – we found ourselves putting him to sleep about 12 hours after we found out he had cancer – that I hadn’t been able to process it all. Waiting five days for the cremation gave me the time I needed to organize everything I needed to say and do in my head. After days of second guessing myself and wondering where I went wrong and why I didn’t notice he was sick a long time ago…I am so proud of myself for remembering to make the cinnamon rolls and giving him a proper send-off.
Please don’t beat yourself up about that. I went through a similar situation a few years ago with my beloved kitty and aggressive cancer. I was sick at heart that I hadn’t noticed long before that something was wrong with him. But my husband pointed out that no one else had either, including him, our pet sitter, the vet techs at the vet’s office, and the vet. We do the best we can for our furry friends, and that’s the most we can ask of ourselves.
Thank you, I needed to hear that. I tend to take too much responsibility/guilt for things I have no control over. 🙁
I had noticed that he was sleeping much more a few months ago, but I figured it was a combination of old age and the winter weather. (Heck, everyone in my house was sleeping more.). I really didn’t know anything was wrong until he stopped eating a few weeks ago. Even if we’d found the problem right away it likely would have been too late.
I’m so sorry you had to go through this too.
Cats of all types and sizes are extremely good at hiding their illness! It’s a protective mechanism in the wild, that has passed on to our house kitties. Roxy just did what all cats do, so you can’t be upset with yourself about it. You can be impressed with her skills! Hugs to you…
…HIS skills! (I just read further down…)
Thank you for saying something so loving.
I’ve heard that before, I guess I just thought I was above being fooled. 🙂
Thank you for the hugs!
Oh, Lucy, thank you for sharing such sweetness amidst the sadness. I’m so sorry to read of your kitty’s passing. Roxy was lucky to have you for his person. And you smell fabulous!
Being able to share all of it has been a great help. I feel like the world finally knows how great of a little guy it just lost. Thank you for listenening.
Your icing story made me tear up. What a tender way to honor your little guy. When our 19 yo died I made a ceramic “urn” in the shape of her favorite cat bed. That was a really cathartic project. Wishing you much healing.
Thank you. I wish I’d had more cinnamon rolls. He deserved at least a million.
I don’t have much artistic talent, but I hope to do something similar for Roxy and his brother Layla, who died a few years ago. Maybe even just a decoupage box to put them in with a few favorite toys and some catnip. 🙂
-And I haven’t mentioned this yet, but should probably clear up any confusion for anyone who has noticed…Roxy and Layla were indeed brothers. They were the only two in the litter. Our vet told us they were girls when they were kittens. We got quite the surprise when we took them in to be spayed at six months, and the doctor neutered them instead. But by then it was too late to change their names. 🙂
The decoupage box sounds like a really nice idea.
Yeah, I think I said “she” yesterday ???? Partly because cats to me are always female until proven male! There’s something feminine about cats (and we do have a male and female now)
Hard to change names at that point!
I didn’t mean to single you out. 🙂 Naturally, everyone would expect Roxy and Layla to be girls. I had just used male pronouns so many times that I thought I’d better explain. My dad thinks all cats are girls, even if proven male, and still refers to Roxy as “she.”
I’m so sorry for your loss. You made a positive impact in your cat’s life, he was safe and he was deeply loved. That’s what it’s all about…
It’s funny, I think back on all the times I was supposed to clean the house, but chose to cuddle with Roxy instead. I used to feel bad about it, now I couldn’t be happier with my decisions. I spent every moment I could with him.
Thank you.
Those are good choices. You seem so wise and kind. Hugs to you in your grief. Roxy was clearly deeply loved. Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you so much. I appreciate the hugs.
Oh how darling that you sent him off with one last treat! May his memory be a comfort to you.
Thank you.
sending you love, Lucy.
Thank you. This has been been a tough week and all the support I’ve received here has helped to take the sting off a little bit.
A*Men Pure Malt. Sexy earthy-peaty boozy malty goodness.
You smell fantastic–this one was on my short list for today.
Me too.
SOTD is Pinrose Campfire Rebel. It reminds me of the super smoky scotches like Ardbeg or Laphroig of which I enjoy the smell, but not the taste. On me it’s definitely got that hint of dirty ashtray, but it’s not unpleasant.
Yum that sounds really good, as does a wee dram of Laphroig.
I love Ardbeg, so your description of Campire Rebel makes me very curious about Pinrose’s offerings.
Ooh, Laphroaig! Sounds great-smelling to me!
I am going to have to seek this one out. Not going to lie, I’ve been known to rub a drop of Laphroig onto my wrists before.
Whoops, Laphroaig. I should have my Scotch card revoked.
Vanille Absolument/Havana Vanille (the original name being so much more appropriate). This was a blind buy for me when I was a little obsessed with vanilla. Expecting more sweetness, it wasn’t my favorite at the time but I like it much more now that I’ve gone off the sweet stuff.
I almost wore that today – it’s become one of my favorites, especially in the fall and winter months. You smell wonderful!
I had an original bottle of this. I gave it to my mom because dad liked it so much. I asked her if I could wear it when I was last visiting and she has lost it!
HV was good stuff!
Scent Twin!
I was going to were Hedonist which I think is very brandy-ish (I do not drink much but I think that is it). It is also very sweet, honey smelling. I opted out for the cooler Blonde Diam (SL) instead, was in a cool mood. I do love Hedonist though and would love her rose and cassis versions but not on a teacher’s salary.
Have you seen the travel trio? It gives you 15 ml of the original, cassis and iris. No rose, but…just sayin’.
I did the sample of all of them, but very small amounts.
Ambre Russe today, which is perfect since the weather has turned back to winter. I think February and March traded places? Anyway I smell great of course, as do all of you 🙂
Twins! You smell wonderful. 🙂
Triplets! Love your choice ????
Quadruplets!
Great choice. Smelling good!
It is Friday, it is payday and the auditors are gone !
Celebrating with Miller Harris L’Air de Rien – I smell like a warm, clean person who just rolled out of bed. The person who smells like this likely imbibed some illicit herbage the night before rather than booze.
This is not a scent to wear when you wish to be taken as a responsible, mature adult.
Today, I don’t care
Hi twin, We smell gorgeous!
Yes indeed.
I was late coming to this line, and so far, everything I have tried from it has been a winner
Oh, dear! My nose gets hay and paper smells out of this, not weed. The perfume world’s reaction makes me wonder if my musk meter is off kilter. L’air de Rien is the only bottle for which I had to have a back up. I love it, and weirdly my family loves it on me. I think you smell fantastic.
HemlockSillage – have you tried Fleurs de Sel? If you like l’Air, it might be another winner…
I’ve never tried this one, but I am so glad you’re finished with the auditors!
Union’s Celtic Fire, which has a bit of scotch-y booze in the opening, and then turns completely to smoke, smoke, and a bit of smoke with the smoke. Works on a cold day though.
What ever happened to Union?? They seem to have fizzled out.
SotD: Lubin Idole EdT–rum, sugarcane, and smoky saffron. Yum.
Mmm. Sounds wonderful!
You smell great- love Idole.
This one sounds so delicious, and I have a sample so I’m going to give it a whirl and join in boozy Friday after all!
Scent twins!
Triplets!
Happy Friday to everyone. In the first place, I was waiting for today to post this pic – http://www.eatliver.com/wine-tasting/
Don’t you think that perfume lovers and wine lovers have something in common? 😉
My SOTD is Laboratorio Olfattivo Daimiris. It smells definitely boozy to me – boozy leather with spices and sweet notes. Despite the name, I am not getting () iris yet.
And, Robin, I love Chene!
How is staying power in you? I love their fragrances but find that staying power is fleeting
Not great, but at least it does not disappear within one hour. Tow hours ago I sprayed one wrist once or twice. Now I can still smell it, but I have to bury my nose in my wrist for that.
I’ve just sprayed my neck and crooks of elbows. I’ll report later how the perfume performs this time.
Well, it seems like 2-3 hours is all I can get from Daimiris. I can no longer smell it on myself at all.
Hahah i love that pic 🙂
Great pic. When my wine loving son looks askance at me and his wife after we go sniffing, we remind him that he is doing practically the same thing as he swirls and sniffs the bowls of his wine glasses in a tasting.
Exactly this! I got into perfume after I had to stop drinking for medical reasons and I missed the sensory experience of really getting into the layers of a scotch or a good red.
I believe I first realized that when I read the following passages in a short detective story (appropriately named “Sleuths on the Scent”, by Dorothy L. Sayers) where a travelling wine salesman notes the similarity between perfume testing and wine tasting:
‘Excuse me, sir,’ said Mr Redwood, ‘but if I might point it out, it’s not everybody knows the right way to test perfume. Just dab a little on the hand, wait while the liquid evaporates, and then raise the hand to the nostrils.’
…
‘That’s very interesting,’ said Monty, much impressed and following the example set him. ‘Same as when you put old brandy in a thin glass and cradle it in the hollow of the palm to bring out the aroma. The warmth of the hand makes
the ethers expand.
🙂
Perfect!
That was a good comeback. I feel the same way about sniffing wine as I do about sniffing fragrances 🙂 Love the wine 🙂
Me too Clarissa…I love my liquids (wine and perfume)!
SOTD Lush Dear John.Because I only kept four perfumes unpacked,my choices for the forseeable future are
Dear John
Dior Homme Parfum
Gaultier Le Beau Male
The Body Shop British Rose.
Wish me luck.Lol.x
good luck!, they sound like nice choices, good variety. I only know Dior Homme in the intense version which I love, the parfum must be special. Lush do such great scents too, I love Breath of God and Kerbside Violet.
Those are nice choices, though! I’ve been meaning to go sniff British Rose – what is it like on you?
Having the rest of your collection packed away will motivate you to get all the packing/moving/unpacking down as quickly as possible, and get it behind you! 🙂
Booze cruise SOTD: Frapin 1697 by Bertrand Duchaufour. Do NOT wear this to an annual employee review with your supervisor…in a small office…as I once did.
Uh oh!
SOTD: Tom Ford Noir Extreme. Decided against booze today in the form of a fragrance, but will enjoy a beer and/or some tequila with dinner tonight. TGIF! 🙂
You smell awesome! Enjoy your beer and/or tequila…perhaps both?! 😀
Love this scent!
It’s Friday: I vote for “and”! ????
Yes! We are obviously not voices of reason.
I’m wearing a few sprays of my son’s Guerlain Homme for the (hopefully subtle and work-friendly) rum note.
You smell so nice!!
I’ve bought my husband 3 bottles of this, in different sizes, plus the body wash and deodorant.
I occasionally spray some on me.
I couldn’t find my sample vial of FM Angeliques Sous La Pluie -Gin and Tonic!- so I am in decidedly non boozy Tam Dao. Yum.
But you do smell great.
Tam Dao is on my FB list! You smell wonderful!
SOTD By Kilian Single Malt. When I first put it on, it did have a really nice whisky aroma (I love whisky) that I loved to the point I was a little concerned about wearing it to the office. Now, however, it’s dried and is a bit sweet and too much vanilla for me so definitely not FB worthy. But nice for a boozy day. 🙂
$ saved.
I’m wearing Nicolaï Parfumeur Créateur’s Incense Oud. The opening reminds me of liquor even though it’s not a note in the description. Possibly from the artemisia.
You smell lovely!
My sister loves this one.
Good morning….and HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Sporting Replica’s Jazz Club, and enjoying it immensely! As luck would have it, the Perfume Grinch is on a fishing trip and doesn’t have to deal with my boozy sillage…
Unfortunately, a nurse just returned a busted bottle of Centrum Liquid multivitamin, which leaked on me a bit. So I’m also projecting a metallic iron/mineral stank. #NotesofPharmacy 🙂
🙂
Ewwww. That liquid vitamin smell always made me queasy at work.
You smell great otherwise!
Jazz Club sounds fun, hope its winning out against liquid vitamin!
I stopped in at Sephora today and tried the Replica line thanks to your post the other day. I liked all the ones you liked, plus another one with a name something like “Walking in the Forest” or some such. I’m so glad you expained the name or I wouldn’t have bothered with them.
I’m glad you like them! They are fun, and I really dig the packaging. I only bought a travel spray of Jazz Club, but this is FB worthy at some point! Mmmmmmm
I’m bossing with Naomi Goodsir today from a couple of samples I’ve had kicking around. This morning is Or du Serail, and I think I’ll spray in Bois d’Ascese later in the day.
Arrghhh. Just washed our comforter earlier this week, and one of the cats just had a bit of an accident on it. Sigh. Back to the laundry room….
Bossing? I don’t think I can boss around with Naomi. We are boozing around….
Bossing. ???? I have yet to try either Bois d’Ascese or Or du Serail, but I really like Iris Cendre and Cuir Velours. I imagine you smell great now (and will later, too.)
Accident? My previous kitty used to punish me by using my doona as a toilet. She knew I hated it more than anything. No1’s for smaller misdemeanors like not waking up to let her outside, and no2’s if I had done something truly unforgivable like go on holiday…
The cat I have now is wonderful in different ways and he never goes anywhere but his litter tray!
Bois d’Ascese is absolutely stunning. FB worthy, for sure.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday!!!
SOTD is Michael Kors Kors, which has both a emceed wine and a cognac note. It’s a “fruity chypre” which just sounds like two words that don’t go together in my brain. I first smelled this when it came out in 2003 at Harrod’s and just loved it but it was the only perfume to give me an allergic reaction, so let’s see if careful application keeps that from happening! My impression today is mostly just “sweet, sweet and sweet.”
Emceed? Siri, is that even a word?!? Red wine note.
“Chypre” appears to map to “has at least one green note” and very little else sometimes, doesn’t it?
…although I’m guilty of that one, too- I just noticed that I have “almost could be considered a citrusy chypre” in my notes for Tocca Stella, of all things.
No booze. I’m in Misia edp, sent to me by the very generous Wendysue. I’m so glad I love it. Reformulations that I don’t love make me sad. This new Misia makes me happy.
You smell terrific!
Thank you! ????
You smell gorgeous!
Thanks, Wendysue!
Misia is one of my most recent FB’s, I really love it too. U smell lovely!
More sillage and longevity? What else has changed?
All week I thought I didn’t have a perfume for today. After yesterday’s conversation with ElisaP, I realized duh….sotd is Alien Liquor. I don’t find it boozy myself, but I think the name counts.
Definitely points for the name.
Glad I could jog your memory????
Random PSA: if you were hankering after a scented thing on ebay, now is a good time to get it!
20% off $25+ beauty & fashion purchases through March 11th with code C20HELLOSPRING 🙂
Nice! Thanks for the 411!
Ugh…headed over to the ‘bay to take a look
phew..good thing its nothing I need now 🙂
Excellent PSA! Thanks!
Ugh, I have been watching a few things…
I could NOT control myself! COULD NOT! I bought a bottle of the Moschino Fresh Couture, that looks like a Windex bottle. I’ve wanted it since it came out!
The “No Buy with Very Limited Exceptions” is apparently over!!! HA HA HA HA
I’m telling myself it’s an investment in my new YouTube channel, Perfume Geek! 🙂
I had big plans for Botrytis today, but it’s just a bit too warm in Georgia for that sort of behavior. Instead, a much fresher booze in Juniper Sling.
I had the same plans, but the weather in SoCal is too summery for it this week. Botrytis is really lovely. A couple of evenings ago, I layered it with Papillon Anubis, and it was gorgeous.
That sounds beautiful!
Man in Black, Bvlgari
The boozy note = rum
Hurraaay, its friday!!!
Bois d’Armenie today. Like a booze-soaked pudding. I could definitely want a decant of this.
Interesting! It’s all smokey paper and vanilla on me. But you smell wonderful. 🙂
You smell great!
I went with the vodka-and-champagne-infused glory of Ambre Russe. All I have is a tiny dabber sample and have been on the fence about a full bottle for a long time. If they’d make a 30, or even 50, ml bottle I’d jump on it.
Had that one on my list for today as well, but could not find my sample that fast.
I do not have a huge collection, but even a few dozen can make a chaotic mess 😉
Andrea Maack Coven-like lying on a cool, damp forest floor with a blanket and a shot of whiskey.
I prefer this one in the heat and it’s snowing, but really one of my only booze choices for today.
That one sounds wonderful!
I really like it. It’s very grassy green which is why I love it in summer. TF Vert d’Encens reminded me of this one s bit. At least on a paper strip.
I was just thinking that perhaps tomorrow I would ask everyone for some summer scent recommendations. I tend to like heavier, spicier things but it gets pretty damn hot and humid here in the Deep South summers so I need to branch out. I’ll have to give those a try!
You smell lovely Elisa!
Thanks Petunia!
No booze but wearing Guerlain Vetiver pour Elle, thanks to a very generous Basenoter. It’s lovely and they really shouldn’t have discontinued it!
I may steal a spray of my husband’s Gold Leather tonight for the booze.
I have been dying to try that..jealous of your SOTD
It’s sparkly and bright, so perhaps can count as champagne even if it’s not boozy.
How special, the review in the Guide is wonderful!
I’m in Arquiste Anima Dulcis. It has no booze notes nominally, but I do get lots of chocolate liqueur.
Aaaand it’s by Rodrigo Flores-Roux. Covering two weeks with one scent!
I love that! Will definitely be my Flores-Roux option.
Aaaah, one of my favorites. You smell great!
For today’s booze, I picked Tipsy Social Blah Blah from Smell Bent from my sample tin but I am neither loving it nor getting a huge booze note. I’m about to scrub it off and put on Femme because it’s Friday and I feel like it.
Yay for Fridays and for doing whatever you feel like!
I didn’t care for the Tipsy Social either. Cute name though.
I absolutely loved the name and was crushed that I found the actual scent to be a whole lotta meh.
Friday Femme, woot!
A spritz of JM whiskey and cedar wood after a shower should do it.
Still stumbling around with broken toes, crazed hair and fatigue from moms funeral.
Not pretty.
I’m very sorry for your loss.
Condolences to you and yours during this difficult time.
Just let yourself go if you need to! Don’t worry about your hair or appearance. Now is the time to grieve. Order in. Drink something warm. Take care of yourself.
Grief is never pretty, and it doesn’t need to be. Do your best to get some rest and stay hydrated. Everything else will fall into place when you are ready. I am so sorry.
Pretty doesn’t matter, but you do. Take care of yourself as best you can. I’m so sorry for your loss.
I’m sorry you’ve lost your mom. Sending you love in this difficult time.
I’m very sorry. Sending you hugs. Take care.
I’m so sorry for your broken heart and toes. Pretty comes from the inside, you are beautiful!
So sorry Apsara, thinking of u.
Please accept my condolences, aspara. Here’s some advice from Shakespeare:
“Give sorrow words. The grief that does not speak
Whispers the o’refraught heart and bids it break”
What beautiful words, Thank You AnnE for sharing and my deepest sympathies to You Aspara, I feel your pain. Keep her close forever with your memories, they will be your comfort soon.
I’m very sorry.
Hugs, aspara.
So sorry, Apsara.
Oh my goodness thank you for all that’s kind words and thoughts!
My mom was 95 but such an energizer bunny in her white Keds up until the last 3 months, my sister and were like…really?
As others have said above, take care to treat yourself gently at this time. Grief has its own schedule…. And so sorry to hear about your broken toes! That sounds really painful.
wearing Jean Patou Normandie Ma Collection pure parfum, so beautiful!
Really cute cat! I’m assuming it’s yours?
I’m in Habanita, no listed boozy notes but it feels like it to me. Also as a perfume that’s meant to go with smoking, it’s appropriate for today as someone has apparently snuck a cigarette in a bathroom near my office.
How funny!
I’m wearing M. Micallef Note Vanillee thanks to a very generous NSTer ( hi lizbee). It’s a very boozy warm vanilla extract with a hint of floral that cuts the sweetness. It’s perfect for the cold rainy weather front that has moved in.
(Hi!) Sounds just right for a rainy day. Cozy.
Brr. Woke up to a chilly morning, after yesterday being in the 80’s, its spring in Oklahoma. I wore outremer vanilla over moonlit path lotion and body wash yesterday so I think Botrytis would give me cavities today. So Tralala it is! And I will rock it like David Bowie! Happy Friday!????
How is the Outremer Vanilla? And have you ever tried the Cola?
Arquiste/J.Crew no.31
Scent cousins, as I’m in No. 57. I wish I’d gotten No. 31, too, but chickened out of buying it blind.
My SOTD is Nirvana Rose. It’s like wine-soaked roses, and I have a job interview today so I’m very much looking forward to a big glass of wine (or three) when I get home!
You smell fab!
Good luck! :^)
Skipping the booze today, wearing a tad of vinty Emeraude pdt. Good stuff.
Incidentally, I’m all jaw-dropped at Chene being perceived as boozy. Really, it smells alcoholic to you, Robin? I mostly get “pencils” from it, but then I *like* pencils, and I like Chene (it’s one of the few Lutens that I do really enjoy, though I probably wouldn’t buy a bottle).
I agree with you, mals86. I love Chene, but it’s a dry wood scent for me, not a hint of booze.
you smell nice!
Rum soaked pencils?
No seriously, I only find it boozy in the top notes.
SOTD is Versace’s The Dreamer, which is as close as I get to a boozy note – Gin & Tonic in my opinion
Great scent.
Have to spritz and run but I’ll be back to read later. Happy Friday to all! I’m in Kilian Apple Brandy.
Good stuff!
Was planning on wearing L’A’s Fou d’Absinthe today, but honestly? I’ve tried it twice and don’t care for it (if you love it, hit me up during the swapmeet cause I have a whole blind-bought bottle that needs a new home). I went with my current favorite cologne instead – Terre d’Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche. Mmmm.
My husband has to work all weekend, so I’ll be hanging out with a 3 yo on my own. Wish me luck!
Good wishes and luck sent your way! 🙂
Yesterday I spent some time with a boozy perfume. SDV has that burnt vanilla mixed with some kind of booze but couldn’t place the booze. So now I really don’t want booze. I think that I will wear no 22 today.
22 is beautiful!
It is I have quite a few versions of it but not the EDP though. I needed something a little lighter today.
I’m a rebel again – I chose Puredistance White this morning.
Sorry, not sorry 😉
You smell classy!
Slumberhouse Kiste for me this Friday. Oh, this is nice…whiskey, honey’d peach. Gorgeous. Strong as all get out, too. Just a drop from a dabbler sample and I’m wafting like crazy.
Oh I love that one so much. You smell phenomenal!
So weird. I was just reading a fun review by Angela that had over 100 comments–The Body Shop’s Cherry Blossom, and White Musk. They seemed an odd choice to review just now, but I noticed that the Body Shop has launched a new Musk scent, so that might be it… was chiming in with my own comments about one thing or another, when I noticed the date on one of the comments was from 2010! OMG!!!! The review was from Aug 2009. How did I randomly get there?
In Mitsouko for fortification–no booze cruise for me this morning. Taking my son to the airport. Deep breaths.
For us armchair travelers (at least for today), here’s an image to lighten the soul. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d0/Serengeti_-_Stefan_Swanepoel_.jpg
TY! to Stefan Swanepoel, whoever you are!!!
I’ll be thinking about you, mama. (I’m sure you’ll be thinking about him!)
Oh Oakland, that must really tug at your heart. Sending you love. What a great adventure and an exciting future for your son and he’s so fortunate to have your support.
Beautiful picture…good luck at the drop-off!
Thank you for the sunny picture. Wishing your son a wonderful and safe journey. May our Mother Earth smile to him.
You smell fabulous. Wishing your son safe travels!
The best for your son. Wishing him an exciting and wonderful journey.
SOTD is TDC Oud Shamash. Rum and other goodness. sha-MASH!! sha-MASH!!! I’m just having fun saying that 🙂
That one is on my “to sample” list!
The name of it is pretty funny. I can never pronounce it correctly
Wolfing down my lunch while wafting Queen. Don’t know if it’s boozy or not, but it gives me a nice buzz anyway????
Scent twins!
Triplets.. it’s a good one. We got more snow again overnight so with the cooler air this is not overly boozy today. I’m compensating for that by having a Blackberry cider after an extremely stressful week at work. We smell great!
DSH Nourouz.
My daughter and I had the good fortune of visiting Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s perfumery this past August in Boulder. We spent about an hour and a half. I ended up loving Giverny in Bloom instantly, and bought a bottle.
We were going to meet my husband for dinner right after our perfume shopping. I was paying the bill and I asked her if she had a scent that smelled like a fine wine, and she pulled out Nourouz. What a delightul surprise this scent is. Its interesting to wear, and let it unfold. I guess I do picture a glass of wine when I’m wearing it, so its perfect for today’s challenge for me.
Sounds like you made out pretty good at that store! What a nice experience.
Yes, I could’ve a lot more damage there. I liked a few other scents. I think we are going to go back to Boulder in August. Maybe I’ll make the trip to DSH again.
I love Giverny in Bloom! Bought a small spray and might get another… gosh, that galbanum is so dark and inky-green and mysterious over the flowers.
I love this scent. I bought a small bottle, and I’ve gone through more than half since August. That’s fast for me.
Like you, I may get another.
Frapin 1270 with its boozy cognac overtone. This is a favorite winter scent of mine so today was easy.
I have the old flattened bottle and it’s almost gone. Not a fan of the new bottle shape, but this scent deserves a re-buy.
Wrong date in perfume name! LOL, the booze has apparently gone to my head.
1270 is lovely, I was thinking of wearing it but wanted to wear no 22 more.
I’ve just re sprayed with Lubin Idole, it is really rather wonderful, saffron is one of my favourite notes too!
It’s really good stuff. I wore it yesterday but didn’t get a chance to comment. You’re smelling fantastic!
You smell great, twin!
I used Perlier White Honey Shower Cream this morning but otherwise no fragrance for me.
My interview is later today and I imagine smelling like booze would be one of the worst possible choices 😉 …so I am living vicariously through all of you.
Happy Friday!
Good luck, good luck, good luck!
Fingers crossed for you! Keep us posted.
Ha! Probably wise. Hope it went well!
The interview went well!
I came home and douse myself in Myrhh & Tonka compliments of the lovely Hajusuuri…
Spicy…I am enjoying…very strong for a Jo Malone imho…trying to think if I’ve ever smelled a JM as strong as this…
You smell great! Wanted to buy this today at Nordies but they are out of stock, boo hoo.
Good luck for the job!
Great news on the interview. And the Myrrh & Tonka is a beaut, isn’t it? I think it may have landed on my bottle wishlist.
Great to hear! Now for the hard part: waiting to hear the verdict. Good luck!
Ohhhhh THAT is lovely isn’t it?’
It is getting some good press and I HAD to try some once I read her professed love 4 it ❤️ !! That one and Galop are on my watch list.
Been taking care of my ailing mom and didnt pack correctly for this event, but love reading this tonite!
I’m booze cruising with Frapin Speakeasy today. From the nose who gave us Ambre Russe, you know this one is going to be a boozy wonder.
I don’t have a single boozy perfume, which just feels wrong. So I’m drinking a beer with my fiery hot lunch, to make up for that. Which feels very right, I have to say. Wearing Falling Trees because it’s delicious and addictive.
Wearing Nirvana Bourbon today, which is a pretty good dupe of Spiritueuse Double Vanille for me! I’m actually surprised how few boozy scents I have considering how much I like boozy smells!
You smell great!
Scent twins!
I’ve come to really love Nirvana Bourbon, it definitely made winter a better season and I’ll be sad when I have to put it away for warmer weather.
Botrytis for me today though it will get washed off in a couple of hours when I go soak in a hot tub. I have the whole weekend off since I was originally planning on taking an out of town seminar which I can’t do with my sick cat. So my boyfriend suggested soaking today and then tomorrow we’ll check into a local luxury hotel for the night and maybe go to a show on Sunday
He sure made a great suggestion! Hope you’re doing ok…
Since I’m off work today I’m sloshed in Ambre Russe. I smell like I had waaaay too much fun last night.
Happy Friday!
Just got out of bed to fetch Weleda Grenade out from under the bathroom sink. Big spray and I bloody hate it…bitter orange and herbal. Take one part Campari and mix with three parts sheep dip. It’s not even 7am on a Saturday and I’m already gagging. I need to put my body outside while I snuggle up in bed with coffee and toast and plan the day. I really should stick to blind buying perfumes as I have no tasteat all when it comes to tested purchases. International Will I Ever Learn Day?
You’re cracking me up Kanuka, but I’m sorry for the bad start to your day. Hope it looks up quickly!
Wow, hope you had a good wash and sprayed on something else! Time to bin that one.
I’m twins with Deva today in Queen. I don’t much care for booze IRL or in perfume but I like Queen, so the notes (cognac or “aged tequila” depending on your nose, I guess) must be pretty well buried. Or perhaps I haven’t smelled enough cognac or tequila. In any case, it’s the first sunny morning in I don’t know when (23 straight days of rain) and I’m enjoying it immensely.
I think there’s a sort of boozy undertone to Queen (sweet, boozy tangerine is how I’d describe the perfume as a whole), rather than a distinct note I can identify. This winter has really made me appreciate a clear sky.
SOTD Ambre Rousse as well
I’m in L’Heure Bleue because… GO BIG BLUE!!! Game time! 😀
You smell lovely. Congrats to your cats! (Mine face UCLA tonight.)
Oh, yikes! They beat us and a lot of people have them winning it all this year!
Good luck to you and your team. Do you root for the AZ Wildcats? I always root for them too as a good friend of mine is a grad and they’re fellow Wildcats!
Yep, I’m a UA Wildcat! We’re 1-1 vs the Bruins so far this season…
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Great win for you all! 🙂
I’m in the theme-appropriate Frapin Speakeasy today. The lime in the top is a bit sharp but now it’s mostly pipe tobacco and maybe brandy or something.
Seems perfect for today. All the Frapins sound so interesting–I really need to make a point of trying them.
Well, for Booze Cruise Friday I am in “Rudis” by Nobile 1942.
Top: bergamot, dried fruits and grapes;
Mid: rose, geranium, carnation, saffron and cedar;
Base: leather, patchouli, vetiver, immortelle, musk and incense.
This is the booziest perfume I have, smelling of whiskey or rum, red wine, leather – actually the smell of a wood-panelled lounge in an upmarket pub, at the end of the night before it’s cleaned.
If this were a cruise, it would be a Mediterranean jaunt calling at vineyards of Provence and Languedoc, Barcelona for some Cava, the South of Spain for sweet Malaga wine and dry sherry, and finishing by braving the Atlantic to call in at Oporto. (Or it might run aground half way through, if the captain has been tippling as we go). ;^)
That was the booziest thing I ever tried. It was too much for me as I don’t want to smell like I dumped a bottle of whiskey over my head.
Joining the booze cruise in Zoologist Rhinoceros! Today is the last day of classes before spring break, and I have to sit in on a meeting. But then it will be spring break! And I’ll still have to do a lot of work. But I won’t have to talk to undergraduates in between!
No booze for me today since I am attending meetings. SOTD Chanel No. 19 EdP. Looking forward for the weekend, even though I will be busy with some family members visiting from overseas. Have a happy Friday everyone!
I’m booze cruisin’ in Idole de Lubin today. Rum is the appropriate booze for seafaring, no?
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Snowy and cold here today. I ducked out on the community project as Chergui wad calling my name. I’d rather smell like spice cake than booze.
Well, you smell great, so who cares!? (And thanks for the Idole sample, which I’m wearing today.)
My samples multiply like rabbits. Glad that worked out,
I’m on the Booze Cruise with one of the best boozy scents I have —
SOTD = By Kilian Single Malt
It’s the London exclusive but it is sometimes available in the boutques. I got a set of 4 travel sprays from Bergdorfs. It is soft powdery vannillic and has just the right amount of aged non-cloying plummy booziness.
I have a rant but I will save it for tomorrow!
Twins! We smell so good!
Hi P., I wanted to tell you that I received my JM split in the mail on 3/8. My husband picked it up. My mom passed early this morning, and I’ve been with her all week.
My iPad email does not work for some reason, so I’m sorry this was the only way I could notify you. Thanks for lettuce participate in your split!
Sorry for your loss, Nancyleandros.
Very sorry for your loss.
My condolences for your loss.
So sorry for your loss.
OH no, so sorry for your loss. Take care!
I am so sorry. A mother’s love is irreplaceable.
My sympathies on your loss.
Nancyleandros, so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. My condolences.
I am so sorry about your loss. Sending you warm thoughts.
Thanks, everyone for the kind words. I’m a newbie to this little corner of the internet, and am very grateful to have found it. Hugs.
So very sorry Nancyleandros, for your loss, a mother’s love is the most special and magical of relationships.
The notes look/sound really good. Given the name, does it actually smell like a single malt at all?
Fine wine / liquor is wasted on me as I haven’t taken the time to “learn” them. Maybe KellyC can opine.
Mm, good choice! Looking forward to the rant. 🙂
I’ll be doing the supermarket shopping in a tiny dab of Kiste, it’s potent stuff, I probably only need a couple of molecules.
If the rain goes off later, I might go to the local perfumery and spray myself with the boozy things that I hope they have in stock. I’m inspired by you all to try Lubin’s Idole again, and Frapin’s 1270.
I’m hovering on the brink of a Frapin purchase– I want 1270 too!
Panache, for the first time since this summer when I accidentally splashed too much out of the decant, and nearly gassed me and my colleague out of a hot car ride 🙁
Hopefully since time has passed, I can now enjoy its boozier charms, worn in my more typical moderation.
I hope you were able to enjoy Panache again. I hate it when a bad experience ruins something I love.
Soggy Saturday. I’m wearing Nahema, not because it’s boozy but because if there were such a thing as a rose liqueur, it would smell like this. I’m projecting, in other words, and it’s byoootiful!
Hey, I went to the theatre last night, delicious dinner before, good company and great seats for the play, which was Pyr Gynt [recycled]. Left at the intermission. It was cleverly conceived: great set, interesting motifs, visually, ummm, stimulating, and ultimately completely dreary because overstated and just, I don’t know, somehow dull. It was a waste of 31 Rue Cambon and a very pretty all-Chanel makeup. Next Friday night, I think I will stay in, wear shorts and a T-shirt and have fish’n’chips out of newspaper with the dear man and the purrs. Cheaper, more promise of good fun and good humour and far more satisfying!
Afterthought:
31RC is never wasted! What a terrible thing I said above! May Donatella and the perfume powers forgive me: the play was a waste of my time, but the perfume was, as ever, glorious.
What bad luck. Three hours of meta-narrative…thank goodness there was an intermission escape route. What colour eye shadow did you wear. Was it shimmery?
Shimmery in spades! Gold & brown & grey: far too glammed up really, but sooooo pretty! And bright red lips. Vivienne is very clever at making me look better and younger. The dear one liked The Look…it always amuses me to have A Look perpetrated upon my person. It seems deeply incongruous, somehow.
As you say, great perfume is never a waste. Glad you were able to duck out. Next week’s plans sound right up my alley. I love a good night in with the furries and DH.
I’m in Back to Black today. It feels boozy, but maybe it’s the tobacco that I’m associating it with.
I thought it must have a booze note too, so I checked it on Fragrantica and couldn’t find one. I guess we both associate the tobacco with Booze.
A rich and wonderful scent, surely a cousin to something boozy.
I too am in Havana Vanille, the last spritzes in a decant from a perfume pal. It is quite growing on me, although I am not sure whether it will ever turn into a perfume for me versus a pleasant smell experience.
Does your pal need to bring it tomorrow 😉 ?
I don’t have a tonne left, I realized when I wore it yesterday, but could give you a little top up…
A little top up would be lovely! Looking forward to tomorrow…
SOTD is Malin+Goetz Dark Rum which smells like dark fruity rum with amber and patchouli and a little creamy leather underneath.
That sounds delicious!
This is a nice one and good choice for today!
SOTD: Seattle Chocolate
No booze for me, but enjoying rolling around in pine needles eating dark chocolate.
I tried this for the first time recently–isn’t it amazing?! I don’t know yet if I like smelling like that, or if I just like smelling it. What do you think? Are chocolates and pine needles something you personally enjoy smelling like
I know! It’s very different and seems like an odd combo but it works. I’ve not yet worn it out in public, I’ve only worn it at home, so still need to give that a whirl and see how others respond, if they respond at all!
SOTD = a couple spritzes of Cartier’s Le Baiser du Dragon. A soft oriental with a hint of amaretto is perfect for watching the snowflakes outside. Especially since I am inside, all cozy with the cats.
No booze today–I’m flying to DC to see my parents! So I went with the lovely, clean SSS Rose Musc today.
Unfortunately, the boyfriend has a hypersensitive nose, and one smell of a super-clean rose is TOO MUCH for him. Grump. Will I ever get to touch Black Orchid or Winter Woods ever again?!?!
I haven’t gotten back into an NST rhythm yet. I look forward to reading/posting consistently again in the near future 🙂
The musk in Rose Musc is too much for me – but the rose is really nice. Maybe it’s the musk that your bf is having trouble with.
I’m married to “a hypersensitive nose”, be sure you know what you’re getting into 😉
SotD = L’Envol
I’m just a few minutes into my first sniff from this lovely decant, and wowza, it’s a good one. Delicious but not in a way that calls to mind food, a difficult balance that is very appealing.
Have a great weekend, NST!
Once again, remembered to wear an appropriate perfume, and then forgot to post. SOTD was Arquiste/J. Crew No. 57. It smells a little cheap to me, but in a good way–like a movie that is not high art, but is a lot of fun to watch. I thought it might be a bit much on a warm day, but the Santa Ana winds have mostly shut down my nose, so if it was, I couldn’t tell. Enjoy your weekends, everyone.
