Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Adiós, February. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing the (not even slightly freaky) Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle.
Reminder: 3/3 will be Let Your Freak Frag Fly Friday — wear your oddest fragrance. Suggested by Monkeytoe.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Continuing my mission to try all of my samples at least twice. ELDO Putain des Palaces. The only freak here is the first 5 minutes which on me is verrrrrry B.O. Once I got past that it’s pleasant.
Robin, you smell great. Thanks to Pixel I just got a decant of Dries and it’s lovely.
My little bottle is thanks to Pixel as well, and ack, just realized I never emailed to say thank you — off to do that now, so sorry Pixel! Serious deficit in functioning brain cells here.
Those ELdO names are weirder than the scents itself.
I do like those names though, its creative, and to me its all tongue in cheek, nothing too serious.
But there are only a handful perfumes I like/love from that brand.
And I own six, and could easily own another six!
I have the big sample set. Havent tried them all to be honest. But my favs so far are Afternoon, Jasmin et cigarette, Fat electrician.
If Afternoon came in a smaller bottle, it would probably part of my collection right now.
..and Fils de dieu, of course!
I got a DVN split, too (thanks, pixel!) and tested it the other night. On me, the drydown smelled dang near identical to Shalimar Souffle. Does anyone else get this?
The wonderfully oddball Bois Farine for me today. Flour, a smattering of cake batter and finishing plaster powder. Bonkers.
Yum, love that one.
I keep telling myself I want to try this, but I still haven’t gotten around to it. It sounds strange and yet strangely comforting.
Just tried this for the first time. I really liked it, and my SO loooooved it so there is a bottle in out future.
Ha ha, yes bonkers. I love it though. Just bought a FB from a discounter.
Love Bois Farine. I tend to wear it for long car journeys. It’s civilised, so won’t choke the family, but smells particularly gorgeous when warmed by sun coming through a window.
I am wearing Tihota in a slightly different interpretation of freaky – this was the very 1st ( and so far, only 1 of 2) back up bottles I purchased, signifying my movement from someone who just liked to perfume to a certifiable loony perfumista.
Flying the flag high in this vanilla, musky heaven.
Back-up bottles really are a sign. . .
In ISM today. Odd but wonderful. It provides some comfort and backbone that I need to drive in the snow to a meeting. Eep.
Drive safe!
I’m in Iris Nazarena. Not freaky, but calming and steady, which is what I need for starting reports.
Yum!
I’m in the slightly weird Omnia by Bulgari, because on a cold rainy day it’s nice to be wrapped in something warm and cosseting (even if it is a little weird).
Perfect — you smell great.
Let your freak frag fly: Sous le Vent
WOW and WHOA! at the same time.
I am addicted to this one but it vanishes on me in about an hour
Made my little ducklings eggs and a yogurt parfait with homemade granola and fresh fruit. Cloudy Day..Chai tea..the sun will come out tomorrow (I hope)
I like that one and just wore it the other day. I’m kind of going through a Guerlain moment and trying various things I have had on hand for awhile but forgotten. I’m not sure what’s weird about it though… ?
Nothing weird, just both wow (it smells good) and Whoa because it smells of an old style chypre but radiant all at the same time
Ah, that makes perfect sense. Yes very old style.
Sounds yummy! I’m making a spicy parsnip soup at the moment, there are caraway seeds in it, and the aroma’s are harmonising nicely with Epic woman today, (although I hope I don’t smell too ‘curried’, more ‘aromatic’!
wow! that sounds de-lish!
I love making soups. Epic is divine. Have a wonderful day
That is one of my favorites. You smell terrific. Do you know what “vintage” you have? The 2006 EdP bottle I have lasts very nicely on me.
Hi monkey-I do not, its from the split meet and I assume its the newest one.
lucky you
I wish it would last longer on me. Its a beauty and very addicting. Your 2006 may have more punch and power
Yes, I have an older one and it no doubt has power and lasts a long time!
Jealous
I have some Sous le Vent in my life now thanks to the split meet, as well, and WOW and WHOA sums it up nicely. I can’t decide if its elegant or wild, or both at once. Love it.
that is how I feel !
SOTD is Sushi Imperiale. Odd name, nice fragrance.
What’s freaky is this weather we’re having. A week ago it was 68 and sunny, today it is 32 and snowing. Last night we had rain and lightening!? Gotta love the Midwest.
Happy Humpday everyone!
it odd here too..got cold…then will be 70 today and raining. We got hardly any snow this winter (so far) but that is New England for you.
I feel like with the up and down everyone has been sick on and off.
The oddest name.
Love the fragrance, and the name just makes me laugh. Yep, I’m weird all right.
Love the (new?) gravatar! And funny with your screen name.
Thank you, Marjorie! It’s been lovely to see you here so often this winter — though I’m sorry it’s been because of rotten weather and illness!!
Thanks. Yes, I’m usually too busy wrangling 13 year-olds to chat about perfume during the work week. I admit, the crazy weather and illnesses seem easier to handle some days!
I’m wearing Hermes Galop (courtesy of Katrina through the splitmeet) which is about as freaky as I’m willing to get given that I’m spending four hours this morning in a bus with my coworkers. It pairs exceptionally well with snugly sweaters, I think.
Gallop is a good choice for a bus trip with coworkers on so many levels
.
Galop ( that autocorrect!)
Your coworkers are all going to be in love with you by the end of the bus ride!
SotD: The weird and wonderful Zoologist Bat. This is one of the few scents I feel a little odd about wearing to the office. It very much smells like a zoologist after caring for his bats–kind of fruity, earthy, and with an animal musk that is odd, but not unpleasant (to me since I like healthy animal scents).
I’m considering Bat for Friday, but don’t know if I can actually wear it comfortably since it goes super-weird on my skin.
I’m still deciding between Bat and Boudicca Wode for Friday- they’re both wonderfully weird in totally different ways.
Wonderful! So gutsy. I love that you’re wearing that to work! I would love catch a whiff of it without knowing what it is beforehand. With some of the Zoologist perfumes, I have a hard time getting the animal out of my head long enough to know if I actually want to smell like that or not.
I was really feeling my Bandit shower gel this morning so I’m taking a break from weird week in Bandit… or AM I?
I suspect the majority of us here have a warped concept of what’s weird when it comes to fragrances.
Going thru my samples once again. Wearing Nicolai Ambre Cashmere Intense. Citrusy opening with soft amber and vanilla notes in the drydown. There is a faint smokiness accord. I poured the whole sample on me and after 2 hours it is about to disappear. Boring is all I can say. Money saved!
Ella for me today
That’s a good one.
Gorgeous!, I ve recently sampled Ella, I really liked it.
I wish they had smaller bottles. I recently fell in love with Ella but simply cannot justify the price!
I’m with u!, if only they had smaller, cheaper bottles!
So pretty. You smell lovely today!
I’m wearing Asphalt Rainbow in anticipation of the 80 degree weather we’re expecting after a drizzly morning in the DMV, and because it reminds me of NY which is home for me.
I haven’t tried this, but it is quite possibly the best name ever for a perfume. I’m not a blind-buyer, but if ever I were to blind buy based on a name alone, Asphalt Rainbow would be the one.
It really is a great name and suits the perfume perfectly. (Have we done that as a community project yet? Your favorite perfume name, or the perfume most aptly named?)
Luckyscent has samples, lizbee. I will be getting another one or two, as I haven’t seen it at the decanters and heaven knows I don’t need a bottle of anything.
Thanks! I’m looking forward to trying it.
I like that idea for a community project!
Ditto!
I’ll third that suggestion!
I’m with you on that one! I’m adding this to my luckyscent samples list for sure though. (Between the rose and the $100/30ml pricepoint I can’t imagine this being a blind buy for anyone)
You can just call it a large sample and voila, no longer a blind buy. It’s a sample!
I may have tried AR through Olfactif and wondered how a fragrance could have that name. It smells better than the NY streets! Now I appreciate fragrance name inspirations more than at that time. The bottle is distinctive as well.
I guess it’s that old saying, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
I love that one, especially when it’s warm. Has some weird elements: spray paint and wet plaster? But it all seems to work and smell good. You smell fab! It’s on my theoretical buy list.
Yes, it’s perfect on a steamy day!
I had a sample in winter, but imagine that it would be wonderful in the heat.
That’s what I’ve been saving up for Friday!
Do you like it?
Honestly, I’ve only tried it once and thought it was not as weird as I’d expected, but not sure. I’ll let you know on Friday!
Great!
I’m wearing Perles de Lalique, because I’m just a little tired of freaky. Rose and patchouli is as weird as I’m going to get today.
And that’s enough
I’m back in my trusty Bois de Violette after an uncomfortable day in the wrong scent yesterday.
It’s nice to return to the comfort/familiar after a weird scent day!
It sure is!
You smell wonderful.
Thank you! ????
Bois de Violette is always wonderful!
Beautiful!
SOTD Baruti Nooud…maybe not freaky so some, but the opening reminded me of straight up wood shavings and turpentine. Now, a while later, I’m quite enjoying the whiffs of it I keep catching. That opening was a tad scary for me, though.
Interesting brand! But it has not make it into one of my sample orders..yet….
Are you familiar with the other Baruti perfumes?
I sampled Melkmeisje and Indigo on a blotter once and they smelled promising!
I got my Baruti samples from a lot of samples a sweet NSTer sent me! I am enjoying the Nooud now but Melkmeisje was a scrubber for me. I don’t know if it had turned or what but it had a sour smell in the opening I did NOT love! I read good things online about it though, so maybe it was me. So I will have to revisit and see later and also try Indigo.
Since I knew I wouldn’t remember to say “rabbit rabbit rabbit” this morning, I said it as I fell asleep last night – that counts, right?
SOTD is Vol de Nuit (vintage EDT) – yum.
Gorgeous!
Beautiful!
It counts in my book! (I’ve done it once or twice too.) You smell lovely!
Plus Que Jamais for me today. I just have a small decant of this one, and I’ll be so sad when this discontinued beauty is gone.
You smell great! I have it too and treasure it. I was in Paris the year it was discontinued, managed to get one of the last bottles.
Dries!! Robin, you smell FAB!!
I’m not too freaky today either. Still in a lovely Salome rut and my decant is just about Kaput! I’d like a full bottle, and its cheaper than my beloved Onda VdE, but I don’t NEED a FB of anything…the eternal struggle between want and need continues at Chez Deva.
Have a great Hump Day all!
I love your Salome rut. I thought I was the only one around here who gets hooked on a single perfume for days at a time. I’m sorry your decant is almost empty. I fully support your FB purchase.
Isn’t it strange? It only happens with certain Perfumes. The mojority of the time I don’t like “left overs” and rarely wear the same scent two days in a row. I have no clue why this is. Any ideas why you go on benders with certain scents? Or do you do this regularly? Have to admit I’m confused by my behavior????
And here I thought I was the only one who thought Salome was “not too freaky!” It’s beautiful, but I see people talking about it like it smells like mating season in the tiger enclosure and I’ve never gotten that at all.
Me either! It doesn’t read “skank” to me at all. I don’t know what others think when they smell me though….????
If you do get that bottle and want to defray some of the cost with a small split, let me know
I will let you know. I think you mentioned a possible split recently..? I may yet succumb to the lure of the FB, but I have just been so busy lately, I haven’t really even had time to stay “in tune” with the NST column on a regular basis. I tend to report SOTD and then run, which is very rude of me, but there it is. ????
Vent Vert today-I’m lucky enough to have an older (although not the original) formulation of this. So sharp and green it’s almost freaky!
Just lovely.
I always feel like the Wicked Witch when I wear that one – in a good way.
I’ve really got to try this some day…
Not freaky at all in comfy almondy Hypnotic Poison.
Yum!
I’m going through some Guerlains this week and today am wearing Vol de Nuit. It’s gorgeous. Unfortunately a lot of these older Guerlains begin to smell a lot alike to me…
I haven’t tried that one.
It’s gorgeous.
have you tried the new release yet
No, I have a pretty old small sample, and haven’t tried anything at the Guerlain counter for awhile.
I suspect that’s the Guerlinade. In any case, you smell great!
I hear you on that. It’s a very close cousin (or maybe a sister, even) to Shalimar, no? Both of which are closely tied to Habit Rouge and L’Heure Bleu.
I am wearing Bogue MAAI today. I love it. But i suspect my co-workers are wondering what ointment I am wearing and for what reason.
that was a scrubber on me
Wode. First time I tried it I was so horrified I wanted to scrub but couldn’t because I was at the shops. But after a half hour or so of repulsed-but-can’t-stop-sniffing I went back and bought it. No regrets.
Almost never hear that one mentioned! I like it too.
Serge Lutens La fille de Berlin.
My Lyft driver complimented on it last night, he said it smells great and that if smelled very much like me like it was made for me.
Best compliment ever!
Impressive. The Lyft driver must be subjected to all kinds of aromas.
That is the perfect compliment!
Such a beautiful rose…you smell lovely
What a nice compliment! You smell fantastic.
That is one great compliment!
I’m wearing Vanilla Flash for a busy day. I do think it’s on the weird side for a vanilla fragrance.
You smell great! I’ve worn Vanilla Flash to bed so many times that at this point I’m a little concerned it would put me to sleep if I wore it during the day.
You smell great! I think I’ll have to wear it tomorrow…
I’m wearing ELDO original Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby. The whole name that’s on the bottle is on the freaky side, especially in contrast to the mostly lily of the valley pleasant innocent floral.
The bouquet pairs well with rainy, warm March 1st weather- 10+ degrees above average.
I’ve never smelled this one, but if it’s lily of the valley, I’m pretty sure I’d like it. Sounds perfect for our weird weather today!
I didn’t realize this was a lily of the valley scent – I must admit that I’d overlooked it because of the (dumb, in my opinion) full name . . .
Guerlain French Kiss, from splitmeet, courtesy of clarissa.

Raspberry and litchi and musk and powder.
Nice- the only weird thing about it is, reviews have emphasized an overwhelming sweetness. It starts sweet on my skin, but is tart now, a few hours on.
Triple strength coffee.
Lost 5 pounds in February, so an extra serving of my favorite vegetable broccoli.
Really.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Congratulations Bear!!
.
A broccoli celebration is perfect and triple strength coffee with French Kiss adds a certain symmetry
Good for you!
An extra brocoli serving???!!!
That’s outrageous!
Such indulgence! Broccoli is my favorite too…(I just wish such healthy things were my main indulgence….)
Woah, you really know how to celebrate, Bear.
Thanks Everyone!

I really do love broccoli, which tastes even better wearing loose pants.
You speak TRUTH, brother!
I was talking with a friend the other day about how, in my experience anyway, in order to lose weight and keep it off, you have to get to a point when you choose the salad over fries not because you HAVE to but because you GET to. Somewhere along the way in the process, it stops feeling like a sacrifice and starts feeling like a privilege. “Lucky me, I have choices, and I enjoy exercising the power to choose!”
Excellent Marjorie Rose!
You deserve a donut
Thanks!
I’m sure a glazed will sashay my way sooner or later.
LOL
Congrats! Enjoy that broccoli! (Raw? Stir fried? Steamed? …I’m hungry now.)
Very lightly steamed, and I do add it to everything.
Pasta, eggs, a side for burgers.
Salt and black pepper, and Sriracha sauce is a favorite.
Excellent, good for you!
Thanks Robin !!
That’s great, Bear!
Thank you, lillyjo !!!
Love the positive vibe on NST !!!

Congrats, Bear! And count me in on the Broccoli Brigade! Love it, too.
Thanks Jalapeno!

Tastes great and nutritious, what’s not to love ?
Somehow all my sample and perfume purchases i made online last month made this arrangement to arrive together on the very same day!
…and that day is today.
So now I have 3 packages with little surprises/extra samples. Perfume people are so generous!!!
No affiliation, but shout to Dame, Sultan Pasha and perfumerie Lulua, Poland.
And now….

…where to begin?!!!!
I love days like that! Enjoy!
Just close your eyes and point to choose. ????
The stash contained my first blind buy
, so I tried that one first. Narcissus Soliflore by Dame.
It turned out fine! Its spring in a bottle.
Usually I try to avoid blind buys. Most perfumes are too expensive for gambling imo.
But it was the small 10 ml perfume oil for a very decent price.
Grey and supposed to be warm and rainy later. This kind of weather is perfect for Dune which I’m wearing today. Maybe not freaky, but I do think it’s unusual, especially the first time I tried it.
Dune… so good. And agree that it’s an unusual scent.
Mmmm, Dune. Possibly the one perfume in my collection that I honestly don’t know how to describe, and I love that. It’s mysterious and un-parseable and just *good*!
Right? I think it sort of defies words and is all ambience and feeling.
Wore this one last week, and I was so glad I did! But it’s one I have to remind myself to restrain my spritzing of–one or two sprays are PLENTY!
For something that doesn’t seem heavy, it does radiate. I’m not a heavy spritzer and people seem to notice this one when I wear it.
Yes, exactly. It is *radiant.*
I limit my sprays of Dune too. If I spray to much, it literally makes me dizzy and lightheaded. I do love it so, though.
SOTD: Adjatay by The Different Co.
This is a delicious tuberose/leather scent. Of course I wish it lasted longer on me, but not terribly bad on longevity.
I see a nap in my near future (lost sleep last night due to root canal recovery) but until then I’m off to get more coffee!
Oh sounds lovely! Mmm tuberose. Need to sample this.
Its so funny (and fascinating), I sometimes crave the smell of jasmine or tuberose, like I crave certain foods (very good chocolate or liquorice or spicy food). Those scents have addictive qualities.
How would you describe longevity of Adjatay?
Less or more than 4 hours?
It’s one of those scents where I keep smelling myself and need to control this in public.
It’s really not bad and I’m dabbing, but spraying, so probably with a couple of sprays you’d get a good word day out of it or maybe just short of a work day.
I’m tempted to get a decant with the STC flash sale!
Thats not bad.
And on the list it goes….
Enjoy your nap!
Wasn’t that STC sale only on yesterday?
Yes! Got my AM & PM’s mixed up. Oh well, next time!
I get that craving scent thing too for (ducks head and stage whispers. . . . ) . . . orange blossom.
Oh but Orange blossom smells lovely!!!
I once had a food recipe and one of the ingredients was orange blossom water.
I think it was a Moroccan dish. It was ages ago and I cannot recall what it was. I only remember my hunt for a small bottle of orange blossom water
You smell beautiful!
Thanks! Have you tried this one?
I have and I love it. When I wear it, I sniff myself to death, too. I’m not a huge fan of tuberose, but the leather gives it a rock-and-roll vibe that I love.
Mmm this sounds gorgeous!
Joining you in tuberose and leather (Tubereuse 1 Capricieuse by Histoires de Parfums) and putting Adjatay on my test list!
How well does the HdP last on you?
Very! One of tge very few perfumes I’ve rated 10/10 for staying power and also sillage on German parfumo. I use it sparingly and catch whiffs all day.
Since I have a split of Beloved coming my way I need to use up my decant. I smell great!
You DO smell great!!
House twins! and yes you smell decadent and wonderful.
[Inhales appreciatively]
Ubar, slightly weird and utterly wonderful.
Ubar is fabulous!
Ooh yes, and big & expansive: you smell sumptuous!
I applied some last night before bed–first time in a long time that I’ve worn it. Still love it!
I’m wearing ELDO Putain des Palaces. I wish it were freaky! Instead it smells uplifting and fun on me and that’s what I wanted today.
Histoires de Parfums 1725…
… yet I’m in a bad mood today
I hope everything’s okay at work, and you’re just momentarily cranky.
It’s a stressful time now
Sending a big hug and positive vibes.
I hope your day gets better!
thank you
Oh, you smell fantastic! I’m sorry you’re having a bad time and I hope it cheers you up at least a little. : )
Hope this evening is much better!
Hope your bad mood lifts soon.
SOTD and weird perfume #3 is “Burlesque” by Maria Candida Gentile.
top: blood orange;
Mid: iris pallida and ros;
Base: incense and patchouli.
Well, if yesterday’s weird perfume failed as a perfume, today’s fails the ‘weird’ part. On me, this one is perfectly acceptable and only slightly strange. Fragrantica commentators talk of a pronounced civet note, of a similarity to Shalimar or vintage Dana Tabu, or of powder/ lipstick/ make-up notes. Now, if true, that would make this one pure catnip to some NST folk, but it all goes over the top of my head. Sometimes I am a very unworthy perfumista! :^D
Mid notes are iris and ROSE. Not iris and Ross. Now, that *would* be weird. :^)
Smell too much like Ross, and Mr. Koenigsberg might have questions for you.
Hah, indeed! And I for him – “so how do you know it’s *Ross* I smell of, hmmm?” :^)
Ha! Good point!
I really like that one but don’t find it strange or particularly animalic either so that part is over both of our heads.
SOTD is probably freaky-to-the-uninitiated: Lancôme Sikkim. Love it, although my first Lancôme loyalties are with Climat and Magie Noir.
I think Magie Noire is kinda weird. I mean, in a fabulous and, er, magical sort of way. (Come to think of it, I’m fairly certain I didn’t wear my mini at all last year, which is a shame. I should get it out.)
I suspect my weird-meter got broken a long time ago! If we get the snow that’s being promised for Friday, it might be a nice time to pull out that mini…
Good morning everyone! March is coming in like a lion later today, with thunderstorms and such! Welcome Spring!
SOTD: CK Truth.
Attache-moi by ICONOfly. The only thing weird about it is that I put it on less than 2 hours ago and I can’t smell it now at all. Caught a little bit of something ambery at the beginning, but not much else.
I will paw around in samples, but I’m not sure I have anything that could be remotely considered freaky or even odd… a hole in my collection?
I’ll be sampling a couple of Van Cleef scents courtesy of kpaint today, so I expect to smell gorgeously of gardenia and orange and jasmine! Slept badly, so I’m hoping they’ll perk me up.
SotD = L’Eau d’Hiver dabbed from a sample vial on this cold-ish rabbit rabbit rabbit morning. I think Alice’s White Rabbit could wear this one. It feels sparkly and smooth, cool and comfy, a great start for the day. JCE is both maestro and magician. I’ll reapply in the warm afternoon to see how it works then.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, NST. You make the world a better place.
L’Eau d’Hiver is so nice!
Love L’Eau d’Hiver! My travel size is getting low…
Jo Malone Earl Grey & Cucumber.
I’ve been on a mini vacation in New Orleans for Mardi Gras . We live in a suburb of new Orleans . Our hotel didn’t have WI fi, and I missed coming on here.
Sounds like a fun trip! *Someday* I will visit and explore New Orleans, sigh.
My sinuses were acting up on Mon & Tues, so I didn’t dare try any weird scents, but went for it today. I got three Orto Parisi freebies with a Luckyscent purchase last summer. Two of them – Boccanera and Bergamask – had a strong musky base that was unwearable on me (when I was testing Bergamask my husband walked in the room and asked “What smells like burning rubber?”). Wearing the third – Viride – today and I actually quite like it. Smells like a higher end and more feminine version of one of my favorite cheapies, Salvador Dali Pour Homme. If I ever get through my giant bottle of SD I might replace it with this . . .
Ugh, sinuses. If you’re in the Old Pueblo like me, I think we’ve got pollen warnings the next few days…
I think it was the changes in the weather that caused the problem! My husband will be the one suffering from the pollen . . .
Inspired by yesterday’s discussion, I’m totally non-freaky in No. 19 today. I smell like a Grace Coddington Vogue photo set in a green fairytale forest meadow!
HA..NICE VISUAL
Lovely! I may pull mine out today, too. I thought about wearing it last night but I’m not sure it would make a great sleepytime frag.
I’m also in No. 19, EDP. Need all the help I can get today.
Wearing No 19 edp today since I need something a little comforting yet with backbone. After running my butt off at work yesterday with all the paczkis as far as the eye can see, I want an easier day at work today.
I meant to go to one of the Polish bakeries in my neighborhood after work, but got home too late. Hope they have left overs today! Hope you get to take it easy today.
I missed out on getting some this year. Since I could probably eat a whole small box myself, I’m both bummed and sort of relieved. ????
I’m not wearing anything freaky today…I wearing Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid Luminiere. (I have had a string of freaking days for the past five days which were the indirect cause of a car accident on February 15th, culminating in an additional car accident on February 25th. I just realized that Ford is also the name of a car, but neither car was a Ford.
Oh dear! Hopefully the bad run of accidents is over.
Oh my! Hope you’re OK!
I’m working through the Nomenclature sample set. So far the most striking is Efflor_esce, an extremely pretty citrus floral that is also long lasting. You get your money’s worth with this one! Mark Behnke reviewed it here:
http://colognoisseur.com/new-perfume-review-nomenclature-efflor_esce-chemists-bliss/
I really wanted to love iri-del, but I can’t barely smell it. I must be anosmic to iris aldehyde, which would explain why I find several popular iris fragrances underwhelming, such as FM Iris Poudre and Parfums DelRae Mythique. I have no difficulty at all smelling SL Iris Silver Mist, L’AP Iris Pallida, DSH Scent of Hope, and even Prada Infusion d’Iris.
The one I’m testing this morning is orb-ital, which features Orbitone, and smells like a very, very soft, warm, creamy-musk, sandalwood-ish skin scent to me. None of those nasty spiky notes. To me it doesn’t have much projection.
That leaves the Helvetolide musk scent adr-ett for later today. The violet one, lumen_esce, will remain a mystery until I get a sample.
I have that sample set too, need to get around to trying them. Effloressence was the one I’ve heard the most positive comments on so far.
Efflor_esce was my favorite from the set. In general, I expected more from these.
I tried the violet one recently on paper and I didn’t love it, though it had more oomph than some of the others. I’ve only smelled them in a shop and with all the competing smells, I had a hard time smelling some of them. The orbit-al sounds nice to me and not sure it’s one I tried. I should check that one out.
They are very quiet scents, except for efflor_esce.
This line is highlighting molecules that are generally background or binding elements rather than foreground notes. I’m also finding adr-ett very attractive. I don’t find it “dapper,” but rather a yummy musk. Again, not a lot of projection, though.
Huh. I tried FM Iris Poudre recently and was totally perplexed that it smelled sour on my skin with no hint of iris or powder (same thing each time I wore it, IIRC 3x.) I wonder if I have something similar going on. I do smell iris in the Prada. (haven’t tried the other ones you’ve mentioned.)
I got sour powder from Iris Poudre. Like body powder dusted and then baked onto unwashed flesh.
I smell a strong, linear iris-musk in the Prada. Now I’m wondering if I’m missing part of it, though.
Oh, interesting. That’s what I smell, too – linear and boring. Maybe I’m missing something as well…
Day two of flu-like-illness-forced “vacation,” so SOTD needs to be something sunny and transportive–I was going to reach for Lys 41, but maybe I can be a little freaky, too, and do Carnal Flower instead? Those camphorous top notes certainly qualifies as odd by usual scented standards!
Hope you feel better soon! Carnal Flower is a great choice.
Ugh, sorry! Get better.
CF is sunny and transportive. Hope you start to feel better soon!
I hope that your illness isn’t going to bother you much longer. “Flu-like” sounds horrible.
I am in more Splitmeet spoils today…Piguet’s V. Intense…from clarissa.
I am really liking it…an oriental done w/ plum. There’s lot of spice and some rose and saffron maybe too.
Was reading up and this may have been a new take on Piguet’s Visa…makes me want to get sniff that one now too!
Oh, like “Visa Intense”? I love splitmeet so much. It would be great if we had one every season.
+1. Although I have to deal wth grumpy spouse who runs around opening windows and fake coughs, I would like them more often.
I have Visa. It makes me think of a peach version of Angel. Very patch heavy. I only wear it for sleep in the dead of winter. If you want a sampkr, email me l lombardi underscore 42 at the hawt male.
I can’t imagine an intense version. ????
It is quite nice
It is plum and peach version of Angel but less sweet.
Less sweet would be nice. I had to let my bottle do Visa age before I could use it because it was too syrupy. It’s much better now.
SOTD is Violet Disguise by Imaginary Authors.
I really don’t have any fragrances that I would describe as “freaky”, so I am just randomly picking fragrances to wear this week. Hope everyone is enjoying their week.
If you have a sample of Bulls Blood from IA, that would certainly qualify as freaky!
How do you like Violet Disguise? I went into a store that carries this line recently, and this is the only one they didn’t have. It also happened to be the only one I really wanted to try. Do you like it? Can you compare it to any other violet perfume?
I’m curious about it, too, but haven’t found any sites that carry samples.
Indiescents, TPC and Scent Split carry the line.
Oops…Twisted Lily, Decantshop and Smallflower too. Probably more!
You can buy samples from their Etsy store! They do 8 2ml sprays of your choice for $38.
In an odd one, mostly because I really had no idea what I was going to get. I’m in Bucoliques de Provence by L’Artisan– odd because there is lavender, and leather (leather lite–I am okay with it!), but it sort of plays out like a make-up powder scent.
You smell great, Oakland!
That’s a beautiful scent!
.It’s a pretty scent. I plan to pull out my sample again when the temps warrant lighter perfumes. Come on spring…
I’m in the not-freaky-at-all Promesse de l’Aube. I got one of their 12ml bottles from their sampler set on ebay last year and I am surprised at how often I wear this. I may spring for another when this is gone, because I don’t need a 100ml FB.
That one is so pretty.
Love that one. I need to pull out my decant. It’s so nice to read the daily comments and be reminded to wear these beautiful perfumes.
Inspired by reading your choices, I’ll go with Eldo Fils de Dieu. I suppose this is odd? (but all my fragrances are odd, otherwise why bother …)
You smell great, odd or not.
I love this one! I think of is as an offbeat cologne.
In totally not wierd Trayee today. However, it is totally distinctive.
And what is weird if not distinctive?
Yesterday I was reminded of my little decant of Palisander, so here I am all spicy-woody.
That sounds nice.
It is a rainy damp day here so I went for comfort in the very office appropriate Alaia.
Mmmmm. Love Alaia. I have the edp. Have you tried any of the others? I think it comes in an extrait and edt, perhaps more.
I have not. Maybe next time I go to Nordies but that may not be until summet. I have the EDP.
Sorry, I can’t type for beans on this phone… (summer) ????
Niiiice!
I’m sampling SSS Ambre Noir today. It’s really nice. The only thing freaky about it is that I’m having one of those infuriating scent memories where it smells like something–most likely a place or experience, rather than another perfume–but I can’t figure it out. I think it could be the aroma of the commingled contents of a perfume ‘essence’ store in Egypt.
I remembered to say “Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit” today! The only problem was that it was when I only woke up halfway, and I consciously struggled to even mumble it aloud. I may or may not have succeeded before promptly falling back asleep.
I remembered, too, in that it was my first sentient thought this morning (after my first sip of a.m. beverage.) I said it in my head, but not aloud, since I was sitting outside having my a.m. cigarette with tea. But it still counts, right?
Of course! ????
I really like that SSS, but have oddly had a slight aversion to all my heavier, darker, sweeter scents this winter, so haven’t worn it at all. There’s that great wine barrel thing going on in there. It somehow smells a little medieval too me.
Good . . . afternoon, everyone! (I was going to say good morning, but it’s not anymore). Today I’m wearing the ever-so-slightly weird David Yurman limited edition (the raspberry/rose/oud, Tuscan Leatherish one).
We got a big windstorm earlier and it knocked out electric power for a couple of hours. Back on line now.
I’m in Organza Indecence because it’s cold and wet and yucky and dark outside, and OI is like a fuzzy sweater.
Power outages are such a PITA, especially during the morning and daytime. (Night’s not so bad – I don’t mind being forced to snuggle in bed with a flashlight and book.) Stay cozy in your OI!
We had quarter size hail and some small tornadoes. Yikes! Stay warm and safe!
I wore thatvto bed last night. You smell cozy.
Day 4 of nasty bug, can’t smell much. 1st day able to eat something. An apple. Ugh.
I hope you feel better soon.
Hope u feel much better tomorrow, or at least have a cosy day at home!
Get well soon!
Blech. Hope tomorrow is better.
Oy! Get well soon!
Yay for being able to eat something, but Day 4 of Ick?? So sorry to hear this.
Thank you all for the kind comments. Such a wonderful group of people here! I have continued to improve over the day, but my taster and sniffer functions are not quite 100% yet.
Spicy creole chicken breast tasted like old toast. Weird…aha, there I got something wrapped to the theme!
Wearing Epic today, I think it qualifies as weird, to my nose anyway, I think it’s the caraway that is very prominent to my nose, which makes it seem such.
Quick PSA – the Eau Protection will be decanted by Friday and the splits to those of you in the US will be mailed on Saturday. Participants from Canada – your splits will be mailed on Saturday as I have to go to the post office
Nothing freaky for me in the perfume dept for today or yesterday. I felt the need for a “palate cleanser” of sorts, so SOTD = Atelier Cologne’s Cedrat Enivrant. Goes well with today’s warm, soupy weather. I am actually looking forward to the arrival of a passing cold front later on tonight.
Cedrat Enivrant is soooo good!
It’s one of the scents I associate with you.
SOTD – Alahine. Something is off about it today – I am not liking it at all
That happens to me occasionally too. Hopefully tomorrow’s pick will feel just right.
Too warm?
Drats! Forgot triple rabbit again. Miss Dior le Parfum for me today. I wore it because I had seen someone on You Tube say they hated it, and I remembered how much I loved it. I even received a compliment:)
Congrats on the compliment. The only reason I remembered the rabbit thing is that ai remembered it yesterday, left a comment about it and went to bed telling myself that I must say it upon waking up.
SOTD is Eau de Gaga which has turned out to be a pretty nice office scent for a hot summer’s day. Enjoying it more than I expected to.
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
I missed wearing this last month!
I have at least 2 choices for Freaky Frag Friday, one of which is way more popular than the other.
BTW, not that I’m on a no buy, but I managed not to buy any FB or anything that qualifies for a Donatella confession for TWO WHOLE MONTHS!!! This is as freaky as anything. Of course I am marching to my own rules as to what doesn’t count: Discovery Sets, including the Chanel Les Exclusifs EDP Counter, bottles bought for splitting, splits, partial bottles, travel sprays, decants, samples (the ginormous ones count but I haven’t bought any), scented lotions, etc.
No FBs for two months?! Do you have a fever, too?!!
Really freaky I tell ya!
I’ll post this again earlier tomorrow if I can. chocolatemarzipan is doing OK, just hibernating from the constant barrage of social media. She reminded me not to tempt her knowing how naughty I am with these matters. She is enjoying the samples and decants she had received from the generous folks here! P.S. Wait ’til I tell her about the FM Iris hand cream
So glad you posted this. She has been on my mind for some time now. Happy to hear she is doing OK.
Thanks, Hajusuuri; it’s reassuring to know that she’s just taking a (temporary, we hope) break.
Thanks Hajusuuri. Reading this blog can be dangerous to your willpower. ????
Oh my gosh, what a busy day at work and an evening started with laundry. But I smelled lovely in Guerlain Attrape Coeur. I have been thinking of buying another decant of it because I only have about 2ml left, and I rarely use it. But wearing it today convinced me that I don’t need any more of it because with the guerlainade it smells like a lot of their other perfumes. So money saved!
