Happy Reverse Hemisphere Friday! Our community project for today: if you're in the Northern Hemisphere, wear something bright and tropical and happy. If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, wear something spicy and warm and comforting.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm doing (fantasy) Brazil in Bvlgari Omnia Paraiba.
Reminder: on 2/24, wear a fragrance by Comme des Garçons, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
TGIF! Yay it’s almost weekend!!
SOTD: Ananas Fizz from L’artisan.
Sparkly pineapple soda 🙂
I’ve heard great things about this one, but never sniffed it. Is it super sweet?
I adore this scent, and cannot find even a decant for sale.
You smell fabulous – enjoy !!!!
I got it in the “Summer Sun and Beaches” Sampler from STC. I like it very much. How is the new puppy dog settling in?
Well – there is a bit of drama there….
After having one of my dogs almost killed by a foster, I muzzle all the dogs while I am at work, until I get a good read on the temperament of the newcomer – usually about 2 weeks
The local adoption agency approves, but when I mentioned it publicly, the Spanish shelter which sends us the Podencos had a collective hissy fit, and demanded that she be removed and placed into a non-muzzling home.
I am furious, especially after being told by the local agency that it was my fault for just neglecting to just keep my mouth shut.
I am not good at political shenanigans, so I have just backed away, and puppy is in a new foster home.
She is upset, my dogs are upset and I am bloody furious.
Oh no! The poor puppy having to be bounced out of its loving new home! And poor you for being blamed for trying to do something good! I’m so sorry!
That is completely ridiculous. A muzzle is a tool to ensure the safety of the animal and those around it, not an instrument of torture (when used properly, obviously).
I muttered some profanity for you when I read your post.
Oh no, poor pup, poor you. So sorry it turned out this way. So much for being honest/transparent, too bad it does not always pay off 🙁
So sorry about this happening, such a shame for u all!
This makes my blood boil. After my terrier died a few years back I contacted a few local rescues about adoption. Those few conversations made me so furious that I gave up the idea altogether. I know that rescues have the best intentions and that the majority are wonderful and do good work. But some can leave one wondering if their narrow-mindedness does not get in the way of accomplishing their goals.
(The ones here are also really expensive. $500-700 is a typical cost to adopt.)
I found it at The Perfumed Court some time ago. It’s a great choice for today.
My favorite easy peasy decanter has 5 mls for $19. Absolutely no affiliation!
http://www.bonanza.com/listings/Ananas-Fizz-By-L-artisan-5ml-Travel-Spray-Perfume-Caipirinha-Ylang-Sea-Notes/406790366
No shipping or tax I believe.
Great choice!!
I would love to sniff that one!
Triple strength coffee.
Rose Noir Dominique Ropion – day 3.
Compliments and chatty strangers involved with wearing this yesterday.
I’m not a talkative fellow IRL, but I will bravely soldier on!
LOL. 😉
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Once more into the fray, Bear!!
😉
I joined you earlier this week in “Rose Noir” –love this scent. And, I am joining you now in triple strength coffee, or as it is known in our family, Aunt Ellie’s Cowboy Coffee!
Excellent jepster !
Coffee and Rose Noir!
😀
I wore this one last weekend too, definitely ‘Rose noir’, and it would be a contender for signature scent if I were forced to have one (I’m shuddering just thinking about this kind of monogamy!)
Yes mayfly, monogamy is certainly not my style either.
More compliments from strangers.
Not that it matters, I wear scent for my own pleasure. 😀
I had planned to wear Bronze Goddess this morning, but I completely forgot about the community project and instead sprayed myself with Confetto. While not tropical, it is lovely. I’m so eager to get my hands on the body products.
I did not know Profumum made body products!
Osswald has some of them, but they’re always out of the ones I want. These products seem hard to get unless you’re in Italy. Profumum doesn’t sell anything through their website – as far as I can tell. My husband and I are planning to spend our 10th anniversary in Italy (2018), and after my first espresso, I’m heading to the Profumum shop. ???? Perfume will have to trump sightseeing for the first day. I’ve been waiting too long!
Interesting, thanks!
Wearing Van Cleef and Arpels Orchide Vanille.
I smell like angel food cake and suntan oil.
Friday of a long weekend here in NS – Enjoy your day.
fun
Yum!
Ooh, yum! So is this one that works in both winter and summer? There are a few VCA that I’m really dying to try.
Happy Friday! Wearing one my favorites tropical, beachy scents: EL Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche. Sunny, bright, delicious. I was so surprised to read comments yesterday about the poor longevity. On me it lasts the whole day, so I guess I am very lucky. Hoping the new EdP is as beautiful and addictive as the original one is. Double strength coffee and looking forward to the long holiday weekend. Enjoy!
Twins!! I have a travel set of this so I can spray with abandon. I can close my eyes and imagine myself on the beach.
I have a back up bottle of the perfume and body lotion. I really love, love this one. We smell great!
Fabulous scent! How’s the body lotion?
I have the shimmering body lotion. It is not too sparkly and it gives you a nice glow. Very soft and makes the perfume last longer. It smells delicious. For what I understand it is also a limited edition.
Thanks for the info! I may have to make a Macy’s run and check this out…
I’m not a fan of tropical scents and stay far away from stuff like Bronze Goddess because coconut in fragrance really puts me off. In fact, anything that smells vaguely of suntan lotion or oil has me running for the hills. Not my cuppa.
But I am in something I’d wear in the summer: L’ombre dans l’eau.
Close enough!
It fits the year-round scent category well, too.
I’m with you, not a tropical girl. Keep the coconut, pineapple, and banana away from me. You smell great…..
Yes. I’m not really a beach type at all. I only eat coconut – sparingly. Pineapple is great – for eating only and really delicious in spicy dishes. Banana is on my hate list. I don’t like it, the texture freaks me out the smell makes me flee the room.
The only way I can do tropical is with a white floral, but even that is limited because while I can appreciate BWF scents, I’m generally not a fan. Anything “beachy” or “suntan” – ish in any way just makes my skin crawl. I can’t stand the smell of suntan oil itself so a fragrance meant to evoke that is just nauseating to me.
Summertime scents to me are green and floral instead of beachy and tropical.
My DIL loves it and it really smells good. It’s fun to smell fragrances you like yourself on other people when you aren’t formally testing.
You smell amazing.
Do you mean your DIL wears Bronze Goddess? It is nice to smell something on someone else and notice how different it is – or isn’t.
I’m just not a fan of that particular smell. “Beachy” scents are just not appealing to me.
And thank you. L dans L I think is a scent that one can wear all year round actually.
L’Ombre dans L’Eau 🙂 .
I like the smell of coconut, but not so much in perfume for some reason. You smell fantastic today- like a lush green summer garden! I thought about L’Ombre myself this am.
I’m the same way. I only like coconut smell if it’s actual coconut for eating because the scent is rather soft. But usually coconut smelling things turn me off completely and I don’t really like coconut oil either. I’ve tried some fragrances with a little bit of coconut before, but never really liked them.
I was thinking of a local arboretum I’d been to that has a spectacular rose garden as things I’d do in the summer and so L dans L came immediately to mind.
A lot of people on the east coast associate the beach with summer activities but I’d much rather go romping in a wooded park (lots of shade!) instead.
I love L’Ombre – it’s perfect for bright winter days in the desert (haven’t tried it for summer yet, but I will).
It’s definitely working well for today. It’s cold out, but very sunny. I’ve also noticed a few green sprouts here and there already in the flowerbeds at work and at home.
It’s great for summertime. Nice and refreshing for most of the day with a soft warmth in the dry down for evening.
I am wearing Pacifica Inc. Tahitian Gardenia – a fresh white floral scent. It smells of a sunlit garden with soft green leaves and blooming white trees and bushes. There is a slightly soapy note, but I like it in this fragrance.
That is one of the Pacifica’s scents I always enjoy. you smell good!
I started off the week with that one. You smell great!
I’ve always been tempted to get one of the roller balls of Pacifica scents when I see them, but haven’t done so yet. This one does sound really nice.
Back from vacation. Was close to the equator and the weather was in the 80’s F sunny and gorgeous. Lots of sunblock and piña coladas
Now back in the 30’s F, made some homemade scones with butter and raspberry jam.
Welcome back!
Thank you!
Love those scones! Hope you had a great time.
I did! Sat on the beach for 2 days and also explored
Yum, your breakfast smells wonderful!
Welcome back! You vacation sounds like HEAVEN. Can’t wait until my little biscuit is old enough to fly (or to be left with grandparents for a few days…)
Welcome back! Sounds relaxing. Sigh.
Glad u had a wonderful and tropical holiday!
(I might make those scones again next week too.)
Welcome back. Sounds like your trip was fun and relaxing.
Scones sound so good. I’m hosting tea with my girl friends tomorrow at my house and one of them is bringing home made scones. I can’t wait!
Oooo! Have fun!
Scones, tea, girlfriends.. you are my people !
We vacation sans babies
Forgot to mention my SOTD is Good Girl gone Bad by Killian
It isn’t a vacation if the kids are along – that’s just parenting in another location 😉
I’m in Lolita Lempicka Elle l’Aime. My bottle arrived yesterday, so I gave myself two assertive sprays a little bit ago. Lemon-lime soda with coconut, and kind-of, sort-of fresh. It’s not a love, but that’s ok. It’s beachy, and it’s one more for my tropical/beach collection. I’ve been all about this category this winter, and have enjoyed it tremendously.
Have a great Friday!
I take it you bought unsniffed? Sorry you do not love it!
No regrets! Actually, I had a small decant, and I decided to go for it when I found a really good price last week. I was wanting something new(ish), and I liked it well enough to go for it.
Over time, I’ve found that sometimes the things I start out just liking turn into love. This could really easily be one of them.
I had a sample of that one, and the first thought I had was that it smelled like Bath & Body Works Coconut Lime something-or-other whatever it was. I haven’t been in a Bath & Body Works in ages so I don’t know if they even make that anymore.
I have a mini of this and it is just the right amount for me. Something to mix it up but not something I feel like I have to go to over and over again!
I’m wearing Carnal Flower, which I usually wear in the summer, but it’s just perfect today! Happy Friday, this has felt like a very long week!
You smell gorgeous!
That’s a summer scent in my book too. You smell great!
Such an incredible scent
I really need to buy a decant! Happy summer scent!
Twins! I love CF… actually, I first fell for it on a super-cold day, but it seems good any time.
Twins with u today, we are smelling wonderfully beautiful!
Twins, such a queen.
I’m going to put up a 10 ml travel set of Carnal Flower for the splitmeet tomorrow. Are there other FM travel sizes people here would be interested in? I’m ordering from FiF, so happy to mule.
(Sorry to butt into your thread, sterling925. You smell fabulous!)
Nice!
Happy Friday one and all! I am looking forward to a long weekend and perhaps sleeping in. SOTD is Miss Dior Cherie. I purchased it from duty free when hubby and I were on our way to Turks and Caicos years ago. It brings me back to the wonderful week we had there. I don’t often wear fruity, but there’s something about that strawberry/buttered popcorn thing I get that draws me in.
Penhalligon’s Ostara! I smell exactly like fresh-cut daffodils. It’s lovely.
Mmmm… Nice.
I’m going to break that one out next week, saw the first daffodils in bloom yesterday!
The ones under my bedroom window are ready to pop any day!
I was planning to participate in the project, but when I got dressed my thought was “I’m wearing a beige sweater. I should probably wear Beige.” I guess I’m feeling very literal today.
Have a great Friday, everyone!
Heehee. I love a monochromatic color scheme. ????
Also, I’ve recently wondered if others coordinate their clothing with the color they associate with their fragrances. The other day I could not bring myself to wear Bois de Violette with my orange scarf because I associate BdV with purple, and I’m not a fan of orange and purple together.
I have no shame in this regard. Once I wore Amouage Gold with ratty jeans and a t-shirt (I work at home). When I picked up my kid at pre-school the coordinator looked me over and said, “Well, you SMELL nice. ” Which I did 🙂
I love orange and purple together.
Beige is such a perfect work scent.
I have not tried my sample of Beige yet, but this scent has frangipani, so it’s still can be considered a tropical floral fragrance – at least technically. 🙂
Perfect scent for summer!
The EDP is a rounder floral than the EDT, which has more aldehydes. Beige goes with practically anything. You smell great.
I wondered if Beige was one that might be improved on as an EDP. Sounds like maybe it has? I love aldehydes, but “rounder floral” is appealing… If it lasted longer/projected more, I’d be happy about that, too.
I love Beige in summer (anytime really.) You smell divine!
Beige is one of my favorite Chanel’s. You smell wonderful.
I don’t always coordinate my clothes and my perfumes, but with Beige it happened more than once: I would put on something beige/brown – and then feel compelled to wear that perfume.
Good morning, everyone! I’m starting my day in Cedrat Enivrant. I have a coffret of some of the Ateliers, and this is the one that I’m draining most quickly.
I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend. 🙂
That one is really nice and good on hot summer days.
I LOVE Cedrat Enivrant…as does my sister!
I went to Brazil today with L’Artisan Batucada.
You really thought that through! Great choice.
I’m pretending it’s summer in Jour d’Hermes.
Twins!
Perfect summer scent.
Not exactly “tropical” but definitely bright and sunny – Jour d’Hermes. Flowers in the woods … with grapefruit! 🙂
I pulled my AG Passion out of storage for today’s project. Not what I’d usually wear for a cold day like today (25 F when I walked to the train station this morning) but I’m enjoying it anyway.
You smell good!
I saw Passion for a good price the other day but have no idea what it smells like. Can you describe it please?
My brain is tired this morning so I’m doing an easy-peasy comparison:
Left SotD = Chanel Eau de Cologne (spray decant)
Right SotD = 4711 Original Eau de Cologne (splash bottle)
Chanel is a bit brighter with more yellow citrus. 4711 is a slightly more aromatic. Both are a wonderful way to wake up this morning. Happy Friday, NST!
Love the Chanel Eau de Cologne. Haven’t sniffed 4711.
I think Luca Turin’s words for the Chanel were “perfect cologne.” I agree.
Oooh, I want to do this with 4711 and Cologne Indelebile. It will be a summer project . . .
Excellent summer project idea. I have a few other cologne samples and decants so it would be fun to do a cologne sniff-off. They are subtly different enough to make things interesting.
I really want to try 4711. I’ve heard so many good things about it and it seems to be a quintessential cologne for summer.
I’m a 4711 believer. It’s cheap as chips and smells like a cologne should smell.
By the way my SSS package arrived yesterday and I just have to say Equestrian is fabulous! I brought my travel spray with me so I can spritz more on when my SOTM fades.
Isn’t it great?
Equestrian was the only thing on my Christmas list this year. Love!! You smell fabulous!
I wasn’t expecting to be the first on team Manoumalia!
May I take honourable second place in your team please!
I’ll go third – this really isn’t my genre at all but I do have a sample of this, so that will be the SOTD.
I was nearly fourth. It was my Plan B. Such a great scent!
You guys smell great. I’d probably be in that one again (wore my sample earlier this week) but I have a both a freelance deadline and a new boss, so I’m going to be more conservative/barely smellable in a hermessence later, maybe brin de regalisse? still looking for my elusive coffee scent…but those samples are light and summery.
I completely forgot about Manoumalia, you smell great!
I’ve been battling a most stubborn cold for the past couple of weeks, but I’m returning to the world of things-I-can-smell at last. And dutifully participating in today’s project with LesNez Manoumalia. Can’t get more tropical than that, for me.
Lingering colds are the pits. Hope life perks up soon.
I am wearing Ichnusa (Profumum Roma) today (sample)
This is a very very green herbal fig to me. The fig is dry, the herbs are very nice and soft (not too foodie or screechy, or too mellow, thank god, because a lot of herbal and green scents turn out that way on my skin).
Yes, big like, will try again soon 🙂
It’s not really tropical, but I it certainly evokes a sunny feeling. So this one counts for the reverse hemisphere theme right? 🙂
If you’re in the western hemisphere, perhaps you can get credit for wearing something Mediterranean-feeling? And if you’re in the eastern hemisphere, well . . . parts of California probably fit that scent. So I say you get credit.
Hehe, good one 😀
I live in the eastern hemisphere (Netherlands)
so….California…knows how to party!
About Ichnusa.
The gorgeous greennes turns into a more sweet woody white musk later on. Not really excited about that phase.
Funny thing, longevity of the greenness differs per hand though.
Oh well, def gonna try this one again in warmer weather.
Good Morning and Happy Friday!
Been home a couple of days this week, taking care of puny children. Low grade fever, sore throats, and general crudiness. Thankfully, today Daddy is home so I could get to work….
SOTD: Eau de Pamplemousse Rose. One of my favorite warm weather scents! One day I’ll buy a FB….
I smelled this the other day for the first time and loved it! I think it will be FB for me too????
You smell fab!
You smell delightful!
Love that scent, you smell great!
Great scent. You smell wonderful.
In honor of warmer places, BodyShop Pink grapefruit shower gel and lotion with lots of sprays of Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune. Have a marvelous day, everyone!
I love that shower gel. And Pamplelune.
Ooh, I wish I was your twin! maybe I’ll wear that later.
Lol! I showered with Pink Grapefruit gel and used the body butter as well! Love the tartness of it. One of my favorites.????
That’s a beautiful picture today!
I survived moving yesterday (thanks for all the well wishes!), and happened to find a sample that fell out of my dresser during the move, that also fit today’s theme perfectly. Wearing Histoires de Parfums – 1804 George Sand.
I should have said — it’s one of Bvlgari’s promotional images for Omnia Paraiba.
I like Omnia Paraiba.
Thanks – I was wondering.
Congratulations!
Now I’m imagining a dresser leaving a trail of samples behind like breadcrumbs.????Glad you survived the move!
I layered PdN’s Fig Tea – which is all fig on me – with Tokyo Milk’s Sea and Sky, so I’ve got a warm, salty fig going on. I like to think there an island in the Aegean Sea that smells like that, but maybe that’s just my fantasy…..
Happy to join you in that fantasy!
That sounds like a very appealing combo!
I am wearing the goofiest fragrance I own (I think), CSP Vanille Banane. I smelled like Banana Laffy Taffy and a vanilla pudding cup. It smells like nothing found in nature, more like a pack of Donkey Kong scratch-and-sniff stickers. It wears down to woody vanilla with some patchouli. No great shakes but inoffensive. That first 40 minutes or so is great fun, though.
S(ip)otD: MF Tropical–black tea with a tropical fruit salad of citrus, pineapple, and hibiscus. Why not?
I am wearing my goofiest perfume too, namely Bendelirious, which is cherry soda with supposedly iris. Quite bouncy and summery.
I love that perfume can be goofy
My H thinks Seville l’Aube smells like laffy taffy.
Personally, I would not be able to handle that, but your description of it is hilarious! It might be a fun scent to wear at a school with little kids and see if their scratch-n-sniff stickers compare to that fragrance.
Those CSP vanillas are something else aren’t they?
Summery SOTD #5 is Acqua di Parma “Blu Mediterraneo Bergamotto di Calabria”. Spray it on and it’s beautiful, but by the time you say ‘Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Bergamotto di Calabria’ three times, it has disappeared.
Top: bergamot and citron;
Mid: ginger, cedar and flowers;
Base: vetiver, benzoin and musk.
I think my exam went okay; will find out in a week or two. :^)
Good wishes on your exam results!
Thanks missyl! :^)
Good luck for results!
Cheers mayfly! ;^)
Hope you slayed it in the exam room. What kind of exam was it, anyway?
Thanks! It was a Risk Management thing. Google ‘M_o_R’ with the underscores and you’ll see more than you ever wanted to know. All tediously work safe, too. ;^)
Sounds like you should be wearing a robust yet flexible perfume
I own this and it’s a (short lived) beauty.
CB I Hate Perfumes At the beach 1966. I lived in a little village with a big beach in 1966, and this is exactly what I smelled.
Terrific back-story
LOVE that one, and time for me to restock!
Oh, wow! How could you NOT have that one in your collection.
What a wonderful coincidence. That perfume is so summery and happy. One of my favorites for hot weather.
And I was 11 at the time, so days at the beach lasted forever at were happy and uncomplicated, at least in my memory.
Perfect choice.
I got out my OJ Discovery Set today to put on Tiare and then realized the set also had Frangipani in it, so I tried them both, one left one right. I’m winding up really loving the Frangipani. It’s just pretty, light and floral and a more pure and happy smell, more true to the one central flower. The Tiare has some sort of green note that I don’t care for as much. It’s got the lime but something else I don’t like quite as much–vetiver? They’re both nice though. These projects are good because they get you to re-explore things you’ve forgotten about–Always nice!
Both of those sound lovely. I wish I’d tried those when I ordered samples a while back. I may need to add these to the list. I really like frangipani in general.
Try both in warmer weather: for me these two keep switching places in my hierarchy of “likes”: sometimes Tiare wears much better. Then the next time Frangipani suddenly surprises me.
I’m wearing Kerosene Unforsaken, such a drama-rama name for an orangey vanilla coconut.
There are great savory fragrances in this line, I am thinking of Black Vines. I remember being surprised by Unforsaken’s unabashed foodiness.
Black Vines is the wackiest most intense licorice scent I’ve ever tried! I love licorice perfumes and it’s actually a bit too much for me.
Heh. It’s true. And Unknown Pleasures, who’s title evokes the dark image of Joy Division’s album, smells like lemon curd and waffle cones.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I went to my happy place (South of France) with Fragonard’s Riviera Riviera!! I actually bought it at the factory in Grasse and wore its lemony mimosa goodness throughout the rest of my vacation up and down the Cote d’Azur. Warming me up just thinking about it. And, this weekend is supposed to warm up around here, so a good start! Happy Friday everybody!
I’ve never smelled this, but really liked reading about the memories attached to it! Enjoy the memories and your weekend. 🙂
Lovely memories! Hope u have a gr8 wknd.
The perfumes everyone has chosen for this community project are just the nudge the cold front needs to make way for more agreeable weather.
SOTD is Olfactive Studios Still Life in Rio. The ginger top note is bright, and the Brazilian copaiba wood is a playful base that rounds out the coconut.
I really love that one. Perfect choice.
Happy Friday!
SOTD (reverse hemisphere) I am in a combo of L’Occitane’s Eau Universalle and TF Rive Ambre, which would be perfect for summer! The crisp herbally- ambery scent is a perfect refreshment in the summer and is a very nice layer on this late winter day.
I will probably top this off with more Rive Ambre later on in the day.
Coffee – french press- with almond butter+ apricot/chia seed jam (no sugar) on gluten fee corn muffin. YUM!
Pulled Un Jardin en Med out for today’s project. Haven’t worn this in maybe a couple of years now for some reason but it is really working today.
Found some boots yesterday on sale, wore them home and they were so comfortable I bought a backup set online the same day. Had made the mistake of not backing up a pair that I loved a few years back and won’t make that mistake again.
I failed to back up my favorite pair of pumps, so I applaud your wisdom with the boots!
What a beautiful scent! And , seconding your wisdom in a backup pair of boots. I also am hunting for a backup pair that I should have secured long ago. Lessons learned..
My favourite of all the Jardins, I have a small bottle, great office wear (clean and not too strong) on hot summer days 🙂
Ugh there is a boot I bought consignment years ago, so they started out un-backupable, and yet I still occasionally search to see if the brand will bring them back…
That perfume really manages to capture and describe a landscape. It’s amazing.
I tried to buy a backup of my favorite sandals last summer. There was an ebay seller who had the last pair on the planet in my size. I bought them and she accidentally shipped them to someone else!
I still do searches occasionally to find a pair but no luck.
Smart thinking, Gi! And enjoy the Hermes.
I’ve started buying back-ups of pretty much everything I wear a lot on eBay. Shoes, jeans, skirts, tops – it’s been surprisingly easy to find most of the things I wanted, and cheaper than I thought as well.
I’m the same with clothes back-ups: if I like something and can find it with good price, I’d buy a back-up.
Dame’s Lime, Gardenia, and Benzoin today. I smell like biscuits and flowers. My trial size is well-used – I should order another before summer truly arrives! And there are some soliflores I’d like to spray around, too . . .
My university is showing Moonlight this evening, and I might go see it. But I have some grading in between me and the evening.
Good morning ajellyfish. Do you find the Gardenia smells true in the Dame perfume?
Good morning!
I think the gardenia in LGB is cleaned up and streamlined – it’s a fresh gardenia. Playful and cheerful. The Dame soliflore gardenia, though I’ve only dabbed that one, is more true to life and heady.
I almost worw Dame’s Gardenia today but its a tough one for work.
Yes, there’s something about it that always summons humidity to me – which I think is great, but it could definitely prove distracting.
I need to sniff that one. I just got a package from Dame today (a couple of trial sizes) and there were 6 samples included in the box. I love ordering from them! Two men’s colognes, one edt, one soliflore, and samples of the two new fumes that are coming out March 1 – Earth Mother and Sky Father, both of which sound really interesting.
Yes, Dame is really pleasant to order from! I hope you tell us what you think of your goodies!
You must see Moonlight. And bring tissues! It’s of the most moving films I’ve seen.
Ditto this!
Ah, I am such an easy cry I am a little bit afraid of watching it in public! But I’m sure it will be worth it.
Loving the Rhurbarb in Hermes Rhubarb Escalarte’ this morning! All that happy juicy brightness smells like summer to me :).
Extra strong Churchill’s Sinless Pastry coffee with fresh free range eggs this morning.
It’s supposed to be an unseasonably 70F here today!
Peace and joy out NST community! ????
I really like the rhubarb one too. I think of it as early spring instead of summer-isa probably because rhubarb harvest here is early
I like that one. It’s like fancy fruit punch. And the bottle color is gorgeous!
Enjoy the weather!
SOTD = AG Songes. Enough said!
mic drop!
Happy Friday, all! I’m channeling the best bits of summer in Neroli Portofino. Completely incongruous with the current chilly, stormy winter weather, but also rather awesome and transportive.
Tom Ford, right? That’s a nice one. You smell really nice!
You smell great–incongruity be darned!????
Happy Friday (or Saturday, as the case may be) NST! SOTD = Guerlain Terracotta , from a decant. Gorgeous stuff! This could work in either hemisphere, I think. I am going to have an Internet-free weekend, so I will see you all on Monday.
Oh, enjoy your weekend! Internet-free sounds great.
SOTD is the very last rembants of my Auphorie Eternal Voyage which has a slightly soapy, tangy, and juicy rose-geranium, and even though it’s got a gourmandish base, it reminds me of summer. It was one of the few scents I brought with me to Fire Island last summer and wore it nearly every day. It’s being discontinued ???? I think I might have to get a bottle while I still can.
And yay to a 3 day weekend ????
I sampled that, but got too much soap (my skin seems to magnify anything remotely soapy) but I did think it was pretty!
I thought about wearing a beachy, coconutty scent for today (Bronze Goddess, Virgin Island Water, Unforsaken) but instead I went with the BWF goodness of Moon Bloom. Smells like summer to me! Happy Friday, everyone!
You smell great! Moon Bloom is so cosy and easy/wearable for a bwf, but never a boring moment from start to end (and it lasts pretty long on my skin).
My migraine is gone for now but in my thrashings last night trying to get comfy enough to sleep, I managed to hit a bad position and now have an insanely horrible knotted-up neck and upper back. I can hardly move my left arm, which is a huge problem because I’m a lefty and have to go to work where they expect me to, you know, work and stuff.
Since I applied some essential oil blend to my tense back I decided to wear a few dabs of Winter Kitty so as not to have my perfume compete. I know I should be in something tropical, but it’s a warm day so I really feel like I’m playing along anyway.
I feel for you and your neck.
Sorry about your back. I get that not infrequently. Sounds like a good reason for a massage!
Ugh, how miserable! Is winter kitty really a perfume? *feels like i’m not in on a joke*
Yes. It’s a natural perfume by For Strange Women. It’s actually a quite nice minty frankincense-y thing. I have both the oil and the solid as it’s a good one for days when I’m not in the mood for perfume-y perfume.
Feel better.
So sorry about your neck and back! (I *hate* that! Do you have any arnica cream/gel?) Hope it all loosens up soon.
Lefties rule!!!
Lefties unite!
I received a sample of TF’s Orchid Soleil in a Sephora GWP sample pack last month and decided to give it a shot since it was perfect for today’s theme. Confession: I don’t like any of the TF perfumes I’ve tried and this is no exception. It smells almost exactly like Nicolai’s Kiss Me Tender, which I also don’t like – in fact, both frags smell just like Juicy Fruit gum on me. I’ve always blamed the heliotrope in KMT for the gum smell, but Orchid doesn’t list heliotrope as a note – the only note they have in common in vanilla. Perhaps now I can lift my embargo on heliotrope scents . . .
I dislike TF for the most part as well, and find that one particularly hard to take. I do love heliotrope, though.
Juicy Fruit specifically or bubblegum? I actually like bubblegum scent which I get in CdG Red Carnation.
Heliotrope to me smells like powdery vanilla.
Lovely photo, but I’m avoiding any hint of summer, so have to bow out of today’s community project. Instead, I’m doing a 180 and sticking with winter’s “cooler” temps by continuing to enjoy my MFK CPLS from last night. It’s after 12pm here and it’s still going strong!
I couldn’t quite face the true tropics today, so I’m in Carnal Flower, gorgeous in all seasons.
I want a bottle of Paraiba too, it’s such a fun and, dare I say it, cheerful scent, you smell great Robin.
Have any of your daffodils started to grow yet? I guess it is still too early.
Yes, but no flowers as yet. I lost a lot of bulbs last year because of the extremely damp conditions. But a lot of daffies seem to have survived. My favourite flowers 🙂
In Rose 31 as part of rose week. Didnt intentionally participate today, but chose the scent to fit the cold and rainy weather we’re having here down south.
You smell wonderful.
I wore it a couple of days ago: it’s a beautiful perfume.
Love the intro image. Passionflowers are a favorite of mine. Didn’t realize it was a promo image for Omnia Paraiba. I thought about wearing that one this week but the last time I wore it, the Iso E Super took over and kind of flattened the fun parts. It was kind of disappointing.
So I’m wearing Mahora today, from a mini. Don’t know why I don’t wear this more often. I’ve thought about going back to ebay and getting an actual bottle.
Do eet! Mahora must be yours!
I ❤️ Mahora! Perfect for this project. Just recently bought a bottle.
I thought I was participating but I’m not really. Bois de Copaiba from a sample…for some reason I remembered this differently. Am tired today. Not enough sleep, so after coffee early this morning I’m drinking Peet’s Winter Solstice tea, hoping it will recharge me. And it’s colder than I expected, which is also making me want to crawl under a blanket.
We’re in for a warming trend which is NOT RIGHT for February!
I am wearing Sacrebleu from a swap. I was looking for Songes but found this first. My other option was Dame’s Gardenia soliflore which I thought might be a tad too strong for work. Happy Friday all!
I have the Dame gardenia but find it so loud that it becomes distracting so I don’t wear it often.
My husband asked me not to wear it at home. I’m out of options. 🙂
Ha! Oh, boy. Maybe mixing a smidge in unscented lotion? I did that with Fracas-more because *I* found it too much full strength.
Good idea!
Sacrebleu is so wistful and beautiful.
I thought of you, austenfan, as I was sprtzing myself this morning. ????
That is so sweet, thank you!
I’m enjoying this rainy day in one of my designated tropical perfumes Yosh Ginger Ciao. Unfortunately, I forgot about the meeting (who schedules those on Friday?!! 🙂 ), so we’ll see how my perfume behaves in a small meeting room…
That’s what I was looking for!
😉
If you get kicked out of the meeting, come sit in my office! Love Ginger Ciao…
Thank you, you’re extremely kind 🙂
It worked out fine in the end: the manager was running late, so we did a phone meeting with 8 people – each from their own desk. But it was nice to know that I had a back-up plan 😉
Oh, I love me some drama. We had several of those today!
Luckily, the first time I had to go behind the closed doors was 5-6 hours after the perfume application. So it was fine (though I can still smell it on me 10 hours into wearing).
Veering far afield here, I am reading a really interesting book on the History the Silk Road, which encompasses everything. Just now I am reading how the Russian barbarians spread white slaves (Slavs) across the middle east and back into Europe through the port of Venice. The slave trade drew so many slaves through Venice that Italian words become incorporated into the business. The word “Ciao”, used now as a universal greeting, originally had the more specific meaning “I am your slave.” See, there was a point to this digression!
Interesting! I didn’t know anything about this word’s morphology. In case of this perfume though it’s not the exclamation but last name of a fictional heroine.
Wearing the now discontinued Tiaré-Mimosa one of the Aqua Allegorias…
It is nice but my bottle may get rehomed at some point…it may bring someone else greater joy…
I figure that I’m exempt from the project this week as I live in a temperate climate. It was one of those rare cloudy days this morning in SoCal–I went straight for Grand Soir.
Also, I wanted to add re: Frederic Malle body products that the POAL shower cream and body oil were disappointing to me. The cream does not feel luxurious, or creamy for that matter, and the scent does not linger on skin like the shower gels–and the oil doesn’t have a strong scent at all. I expected the same quality as the body butters, but unfortunately I didn’t think either product was well done. And for that price–the products should be flawless. On a happier note, the new Iris hand cream I find to be delightful. (Yes, ridiculously expensive too.)
Thank you for the warning. The body butters are decadent.
I actually like the shower cream and the scent lingers on me – goes to show how divergent our experiences can be. I do, however, agree with you wholeheartedly on the Iris hand cream; I just ordered 2 tubes today 😉
Carnal flower is my SOTD yesterday and today have felt like spring, but I’m sure winter will be back!
I think Songes is the only really tropical perfume I own, and I wore that yesterday.
Reverse Friday Project for Saturday . I love these projects and I’m sending you Bella Freud 1970 which is really growing on me : rose de mai, saffron, incense, myrrh, frankincense and patchouli, benzoin…lots of patchouli so sweet and slightly boozy, almost tactile as scents go ( no powder, lots of resin) Starts loud, softens quickly. Not a perfume for people who are in the mood to be challenged , or who want to delve into the complexities of composition. It’s more hippy than refined which means it achieves what it set out to do. If you like cosy or rich Christmas Pudding type scents like Plum, Myrrh and Tonka or even Hypnotic Poison you might like it. Or you might not! Might have a nail polish opening for some people. It will soon be spring! The leaves are turning down here. I love the face that I live in a place with four seasons….though summer is pretty diluted.
High summer is hanging on up here, tatty and battered, but grimly surviving. We have three seasons, summer, winter and transition.
Hey, I’m going to sign That Thesis out to examination next week. The student worked very hard to incorporate my feedback and although it’s not a strong piece of work, it’s at least examinable. So, by the time I see you in May, I’ll be quite relaxed and will probably have finalised my retirement date. Yay! 2017: the year of change and all sorts of completions!
Hey, that is wonderful news about the thesis. Phew! Did you ever re-try that magnolia perfume at World? Or No. 18?
No, been too busy to enjoy the moment. I need to feel relaxed to sniff properly. Maybe I’ll wait till you’re up. It’s fun to share explorations.
I don’t know if it’s counter-seasonal or not, but I’m wearing 1990s Guerlain Nahema EdP.
Also, I came across this about Andy Warhol:

You smell stunning!!
noz, we can always count on you for intelligent and entertaining links.
All sorts of things come up when one is searching for something else! 😉
Morning, all. Seven o’clock and I’m only just awake–this stuff the doctor has given me is totally changing my perception of what night is for. It’s, you know, when people sleep, and I’m joining in. I feel odd, but sleep power to the people!
My project scent is Mon Parfum Cheri par Camille, all dark spices and something I can’t name. I have the EdeT, and I can’t imagine what a more potent concentration might smell like, but this is just tolerable on this warm, muggy day. I’m not totally loving my perfume today: MPCpC would be better finding its way to my senses from underneath a heavy cashmere jacket or around a luxurious (but faux) fur collar. As it is, I feel I should be wearing one of those bras that produce cleavage like a canyon, a dress that starts late and finishes early, and feathered lipstick in Damson Plum. Funny how the weather has changed my feelings about this perfume: in winter, it’s just a slightly noir, sophisticated perfumey perfume. In summer, its personality gains another sort of presence.
You are a brave one. I don’t think I could attempt MPCPC in the summer heat, as much as I love it.
Actually, not brave: silly. It’s become too much & I’m trying hard to help it onwards departure before I decide to dislike it permanently.
I absolutely adore MPCPC but I don’t wear it in summer. It smells plumbs, damp earth and metal. It’s one of my autumn favourites, so while I think you smell stunning, I can see why it feels wrong.
The EDP is only a little stronger, and a bit softer around the edges.
I know, to me timing is one of the most crucial elements for enjoying a perfume. I suffer enough inadvertent mismatches without doing it deliberately.
Sitting out today’s theme and continuing with my rose-themed month. Today is Tobacco Rose by Papillon.
I’m intrigued by this one – possibly just because of the name? What’s it like?
It is a very dark wilting and moody rose – I think of it as opposite of A la Rose by MFK.
I have to find my decant of this!
Wearing a spray of Chambre Noir this morning, which is one of my winter favourites. I feel I had a very wide choice for the theme today 🙂 A cool weather perfume fits the concept of the opposite hemisphere, but a summery perfume would contrast with the actual season we’re experiencing, which is not much like summer.
I don’t mind colder weather in winter, snuggly coats and boots have their charms, but not in summer!!
That’s a good choice. I’m hoping that autumn will be nice, and a bit less windy.
Miserable! I really really really hope we don’t have a summer like that here. 🙁
Happy Friday (or Saturday)!
For Reverse Hemisphere Friday, I’m sampling Carthusia Aria di Capri. Unfortunately, I think this is a ‘no’ for me. According to Fragrantica, it’s a floral aldehyde, and some people say it reminds them of N°5. I don’t ‘see’ it. I’m getting mostly what I assume is the mimosa, but it smells very similar to the myrrh-and-whatever notes that make Jubilation 25 unwearable on me. ????
Late to the party today and totally forgot about today’s challenge. I’m wearing Amouage Beloved for women today.
Fabulous!
Traveling to Louisiana today. Had 2 deaths in my family within this last week. My uncle’s service is tomorrow and my cousin’s is on Monday.
Wearing Narcisco Rodriguez for Her today. Just received it yesterday and really loving it. What a shame I am just now discovering it. What a gem!
Oh, my gosh. My condolences. Good to hear the Narciso is bringing you some joy.
I am so sorry for your losts. Sending you warm hugs.
“loss”
So very sorry! Travel safely.
So sorry!
So sorry for your losses. May you find peace in time spent with family.
I am sorry for your losses.
Condolences and peace.
So sorry for your losses! Take care of yourself too as you are still healing.
Condolences on your losses. Safe travels!
Am I the only one who gets a chlorine note from Terracotta? It smells like an outdoor pool in summer to me. I’ve got a few drops of it on one wrist, and a cup of David’s Coconut Oolong to accompany it.
I started the day not quite on point with summer scents specific to my locale. Where I live beaches are at lakes and rivers. I live within walking distance to a beach on a lake, and L’Artisan Thé Pour un Été captures its exact smell in summer. It’s like beach in a bottle for me. But it only lasts about 5 minutes, also remarkably like summers here 🙁
On the other wrist is Sulékó Djelem. I may be the only one on the planet who thinks it smells like summer, but it has a strong note of dried grass as well as something deeply green, all of which conspire to conjure up blackberry bushes in late summer for me.
Looking forward to the splitmeet tomorrow!
Great descriptions of both scents!
Why, thank you!
The 4 Suleko perfumes correspond to a season and Djelem is summer! So you and the creative director think so. I love that green, hay smell.
Oh, I’ll have to pull out the sample that you sent to me. I didn’t notice in my previous wears.
Oh, really? *pats head* It’s not a typical summer perfume, so I thought I might be out on a limb – guess not! I love it, too. It’s really pretty all-around. It lasted all day and I kept being surprised by gorgeous little whiffs of it. Thanks for the introduction!
Yup, there’s a brief moment in Terracotta’s progression that smells sharp to me. Chlorinated pool water is a good description. I like to imagine that note appears when the flowers recede enough for the musk to appear (many musks smell spiky-sharp to me), just before the vanilla takes over. Sometimes I don’t notice it, but when I do I spritz on more Terracotta, or a bit of Eau de Guerlain, and then swoon. 🙂
Glad I’m not alone! I get it right up front, then it fades as it progresses.
Fun! I’ll put on some Mahora. I’ve been so busy this week (and stressed) I have barely worn perfume at all! (It’s all good now. Back to perfume wearing. 🙂 )
One of the very few white florals (I don’t really consider it a BWF) that I own and wear. You smell divine!
Late to the party, wearing Corsica Furiosa. Hat tip to Deva for inspiring me to get a sample. 🙂
It’s been a fiercely hot summer here and there is no WAY I could wear anything blankety in those temps. But today is deliciously cool at last, and listen! There’s a gentle fall of rain outside. 🙂 No idea what to wear yet. Do I risk a little spritz of Cacharel LouLou? We’ll see …
Hi, I’m new here! I just started getting really interested in perfume a month or so ago and the last few weeks have been a rush of perfume sampling. I originally planned to participate in reverse hemisphere Friday with Emotionnelle by Parfums DelRae, but I forgot all about that this morning and am instead heralding spring in Wit.
Welcome, Eris. Wit – lovely!
Hello! Sampling is so fun–enjoy!
A late welcome, Eris, and you’re wearing one of my favorites!
I am so sad you haven’t identified those flowers in that picture!!! I’ve been trying to figure out what those are for years :-/
Diptyque Oyedo for my upside-down day 🙂 Nice and citrus-y.
Passion flowers.
Are they really?! Thanks for telling me! I’ve never seen passionfruit growing from the vines with these flowers, maybe because they’re in the wrong climate, but I’ve always found the flowers fascinating!
SOTD Estee Lauder PC Tuberose Gardenia. Actually I think this one works nicely for sunny winter days.
Thought for sure there’d be lots more Terracotta on this post. Hmm.
Anyway, I’m very late to this rollicking party, but wanted to add my SOTD which is the very pretty, summery and happy Juste un rêve.
Great name too!
Stopped at Jo Malone for a few more sprays of Myrrh & Tonka, still deciding if I want more of this one. It’s an intense smell, which is probably more the myrrh than any of the other notes. Still not sure…
Orchid Soleil! Can not wait to wear this in the heat of summer! I’m sure I’ll offend a slew of anti-perfume peeps. ????
Orange Sanguine today. I enjoy this one more every time I wear it. Unseasonably warm here today- 60 and sunny!????OS suited the weather perfectly!
Late to the party but I have been wearing Crabtree&Evelyn Passionflower. Slightly watery tropical floral with a hint of fruitiness. 1990s nostalgia in a good way
Late to post, but wearing Jardin Sur le Nil on this cold sunny day. I love this scent! Good challenge today.
Hooray for 3-day weekends and the splitmeet! It was such a crazy week and I had been pining for end of day Friday and here we are!
I got a two-fer today: continuing Month of Roses AND wearing what I consider as an opposite hemisphere fragrance.
SOTD = L’AP Safran Troublant
Apparently, the magic number of spritzes for this to last longer on me is 10! My normal 8 die out after 4 hours but the 2 extra spritzes – whoop! Over 10 hours! Due to infrequent wear (boo me), my half bottle PLUS back up will last me several lifetimes.
I worked in a different office this afternoon so my commute home pattern changed, requiring me to take the subway to Penn Station. A woman wearing a coat, huge scarf and a zip up shirt unbuttoned her coat, loosened her scarf, partially unzipped her shirt, reached into her bag and took out a BOTTLE of perfume (it was crown shaped) and reached into her shirt with the bottle and proceeded to spritz like there was no tomorrow. Surprisingly, I barely smelled it, whatever it was!
Oh, wow, that’s lucky you couldn’t really smell whatever that woman was spraying!
I *just* got a sample of Safran Troublant, so I get to test it soon!
You NYers see it all!
I envy your 3-day weekend (my “new” company doesn’t have this holiday) but I agree with the rest of your “hooray” 🙂
I also think that you were lucky not to smell whatever it was. But it was an interesting scene 🙂
Guess I was thinking more spring than tropical: Aqua Allegoria Angelique-Lilas. Pretty, but like most florals it got uncomfortable for me after the first 15 minutes.
Have a sunny, relaxing weekend all.
