Happy Almost-Friday! Plus, a very happy birthday to LeVar Burton. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm fighting the February blahs with Eau de Cartier Zeste de Soleil.
Reminder: 2/17 will be Reverse Hemisphere Friday — if you're in the Northern Hemisphere, wear something bright and tropical and happy. If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, wear something spicy and warm and comforting.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
And because why not, here's Jimmy Fallon doing the Doors singing Reading Rainbow.
Wearing Pacifica Persian Rose Summery, pretty and uplifting.
When my grocery store has Pacifica testers out, I like to spritz this one. You smell very pretty!
You smell great!
Lovely!
Hey, perfumelover67 I posted this in another thread – maybe you missed it? I have a bottle of DK Gold that’s yours if you want it. Click on my SN to contact.
Thank you!
I’m attacking this mild February day with Fracas. And Chestnut Oolong.
Fracas, yum.
Excellent!
Nice!
A little spritz of Tocca Margaux for the morning. After gym and shower, I think I’ll go full tropics in Songes.
Margaux is very nice.
That is my favorite Tocca fragrance.
Same here!
I’m also doing ‘full tropics’ in Songes.
You smell great 🙂
That video is great.
It’s quite cold today so I had to retreat back to warm, cozy scents. I’m in Coco.
Jimmy Fallon’s rock star impressions are always so good!
I love watching Jimmy Fallon do the lip sync challenge with with guests. So funny.
Thanks, Robin, for Jimmy doing Jim. It made my morning! I noted that they even put the mole on his face and he was rocking a rather exaggerated package. Jimmy needs an Emmy!
So glad it made your morning!
Love Coco…you smell great.
Coco is cozy indeed- you smell nice!
Rose Noir AKA POAL Dominique Ropion/Frederic Malle.
Day two of……….?
I am going to see how many consecutive days I will wear this before I switch.
Knowing myself, not many.
This is the reasoning why I never got a tattoo, I will want to switch it up, no matter how much I like it.
Triple strength coffee.
😉
Carpe Diem. Peace.
I love PoaL but I don’t think I’d want to wear it for more than a day… maybe two in a row (though, I wouldn’t want to do it with any other perfume either 🙂 ).
You smell great! (And now I’ll get some coffee)
Thanks Undina !
Wind chills are in the mid-20s until Saturday, then supposedly going up to the mid-60s. Fingers crossed for moderate temps and my still wearing POAL.
Clink o’ the coffee mug to you!
That sounds great Bear! I wear many fragrances several days in a row, until the weather or an occasion makes me want to change them. I’ve put off trying it because I know know my frugal Scottish heart! I’m going to want to really get some wear out of a frag if I invest a lot into it.
So-What is POAL like to you.? Is it one you wouldn’t want to be without- and why? I’d love your impression if you don’t mind sharing.
Thanks for asking, missyl.
POAL is the patchouli/rose/spice scent I enjoy wearing the most.
Related scents are Voleur de Roses L’Artisan Parfumeur, Lady Vengeance JHAG, and Midnight Poison Christian Dior.
Yesterday it was more patchouli/rose and today it was more sandalwood/rose/patchouli.
I am hoping it is warm as predicted on Saturday, I have never worn it when it is warm outdoors.
Expensive, but worth it.
Cheers !
Thanks for the description, Bear. I might have to put this on the “To Try” list.
You’re welcome, Jalapeno.
I love reading rainbow, even before I was a teacher!
And it is my bday too!
OH, a very happy birthday to you! Hope it is a fantastic day!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! Enjoy.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday ????
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, shellyw. Hope your students are in celebration mode. (Or maybe not.)
Oh, happy day! Enjoy your birthday. With fragrance. 🙂
Happy birthday! Hope your day is wonderful!
Birthday greetings! have a happy day.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! I hope you get a great book as a present.
Happy birthday.
Happy Birthday! And many fragrant returns!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Oh happy birthday ShellyW! Thank you for being a teacher, and many happy returns of the day to you. ????
I admit I did not pay attention to Reading Rainbow until I was a mother, but gosh, what a fantastic show that was. Gives me warm fuzzies just thinking about it. Plus, Geordi La Forge! Really, I should have written a thank you letter to LeVar Burton years ago.
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, and thank you for being a teacher!
Happy birthday! Hope it was a nicely scented one.
Enjoying my own scent bubble of Flora Nymphea.
I have a mini of that…part of an AA set and should break it out to revisit.
You should. It fit the reverse hemisphere theme. The AA line doesn’t get alot of love, but I think FN is pretty good. I’ve had my bottle for a few years so it’s not quite as sharp in the opening, or maybe I am more comfortable with floral perfumes than I used to be. I can still smell it at five hours out so it works for me.
Happy birthday LeVar Burton! It’s also moving day, which is my least favorite kind of day…especially when not everything is packed yet. Everything’s so dusty and musty that I desperately needed something fresh. Of course, I don’t really have anything fresh, so I borrowed some of my husband’s sample of Olfactive Studio Flashback. Clearly, when this is all over, I’m going to need to add something crisp and refreshing to my collection.
You have my deepest sympathies. The last time we moved I swore Never Again … but I suspect we have at least one more move in our future and I’m not looking forward to that.
Good luck with move! I feel your pain having moved twice in less than 2 years.
Moving. Not fun. Hang in there and plan something relaxing and enjoyable for this evening.
I always combat the moving-day blues by listening to the Holy Modal Rounders sing “Moving Day”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR835KE-aKk
Best of luck, and treat yourself to a nice dinner out!
Best of luck to you in the move! I would be tempted to throw at least half my stuff away if I had to move. But not the perfume half.
I hate moving. I hope everything goes smoothly, and repeat Isabella’s suggestion of a nice dinner cooked by someone else.
Best of luck with the move. My husband seems to have forgotten how obnoxious our previous one was…
Fallon is a pretty good mimic–thanks for posting that bit of entertainment! Makes me want to youtube other JM/Doors performances. Gray & blah here, turning to narcissus for some cheer–Romanza.
Ooh! I’ll join you! Twins 🙂
Summery SOTD #4 is Lubin “L de Lubin”. This is citrusy and pleasingly retro. Very surprised it’s described as ‘for women’ as to me it’s more masculine.
Top: lemon, bergamot, gardenia, black pepper and ylang-ylang;
Mid: jasmine, rose, iris, lily, cloves and tonka bean;
Base: rosewood, patchouli, Mysore sandalwood, heliotrope, vanilla and musk.
Today I’m on Jacomo Art Collection no 2. My local niche store has maybe 12 bottles in deep discount so I snagged mine for online discount price. Weird and unobtrusive.
They also have 2 bottles of Oeilette Bengale and I’m tempted, though that one is only 30% off.
Oeillet Bengale is really nice.
I might see about splitting it since even at 30% off that’s a lot of cash. I do love carnations though.
Oh, nice buys!
Local niche store? Saying hello from perfume desert and congrats on your purchase!
LoL, I know, right? I would both love and fear having a local niche store here in the burbs.
SOTD is Le Galion Snob; very pretty and crisp.
I’m keeping it tropical in Cuir de Gardenia.
Now, that’s a great idea for reverse seasons, and I forget to wear it.
Nice…may consider breaking my Month of Rose with this one!
That video was great – love the dark, slightly suicidal voice with the light, happy lyrics. Hysterical.
SOTD is Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur. I’m loving its suede in a meadow vibe today.
26 degrees. Staying in my own hemisphere with Angel.
I love Angel (occasionally)….I don’t care what the naysayers say lol. You smell awesome!
Thanks! I’m actually a recent convert to it.
I’m sick, and it’s cold and windy outside. I’m curling up with hot decaf chai, an afghan, and lashings of Parfum Sacre.
Oh, but I forgot to say that I used to like staying home sick when I was in high school, because Reading Rainbow would be on. Yay for books! And HB to LeVar.
So sorry you’re sick! Feel better soon!
Hot tea, honey and lemon and a good book or film. Hope you feel better soon!
I hope you feel better soon!
So sorry you are sick, but you sound well ensconced.
Feel better soon!
Get better!
Hope you feel better soon.
Get well soon!
Hope u feel better soon, parfum Sacre sounds gorgeous!
I hope you feel better soon!
Feel better and sounds like you’re treating yourself well! I love the word “lashings” ????
Get well soon!
Feel like reliving those days a bit? Try this. ????
https://m.youtube.com/user/readingrainbow
Feel better soon.
I hope you are felling better soon, mals.
I’m also staying in my own hemisphere today with ALoF What We Do In Paris Is a Secret. Trying a sample from LuckyScent. Would definitely never attempt this is our deep south humid summers. When I first put it on, I thought, “oh no, what have I done?” Very sweet (and I like sweet sometimes). But now that it’s been a while, it is still sweet, but toned down a bit and more comforting. Not something I’d wear regularly, but every now and then I’m in the mood for a sweet gourmand.
I like that one, you smell great!
Extremely busy at work. 🙁
Upside: time flies, its almost friday haha
SOTD: Ormonde Woman
This one works better for me when applied lightly.
It will be Friday very soon!
It’s almost Friday – and you smell very nice (I need to give my decant of this perfume some skin time soon).
My very first NYC roommate, who was my high school friend, worked for Reading Rainbow. Now I have the theme song in my head.
Le Labo Iris 39 today. I love this one when it’s clear and cold out.
#dreamjob 🙂
#earworm 😯
#yup
#yup
Ditto!
Echoing Tiffanie! And yes, take a look, read a book, it’s reading rainbow…
Very catchy!
Wow, what a cool job! You smell amazing.
I’m not sure what she *did* exactly, but it always sounded like more fun than work.
And thank you!
Iris 39 is one of my favorites as well. You smell good!
One of my favorite irises also, and my favorite Le Labo-I ended up buying the liquid balm after a generous NSTer included the remnants of a decant in a package a while back.
Did you have a chance to compare it to the EdP? I’m curious, what’s the difference?
Vintage Diorissimo. Just so pretty.
Yep!
Beautiful! Very springy and happy.
SotEarlyMorning = Chanel No. 5 EdP because “why not?”
I wear No. 5 year-round but most often in the late afternoon or evening, so I’m reversing my day but not my hemisphere.
LeVar Burton (Geordi, where’s your visor?), Reading Rainbow, the Doors, and Jimmy Fallon make quite a culture mash-up. Love it.
You smell lovely. So weird that people would question #5 being a signature when it lends itself to easily being so!
No. 5 is a beautiful thing unto itself, a perfect signature. 🙂
You smell wonderful! See the link in my post today (below) for an account of another, related mash-up.
I’m full-on southern hemisphere in Smell Bent Never Never land.
Sample of the day is SSS Yin & Ylang. I should love this but it’s just OK on my skin; not sure which note is throwing me off. But a lovely scent nevertheless.
I was surprised to not love it as well. Nice, and nicely done, just didn’t speak to me emotionally.
You passed your sample along to me and I loved it. 🙂 I may have to get a bit of it for the spring.
I loved it unexpectedly, citrus isn’t my thing.
I find similarities with 31RC. You smell great!
Soon cold here I ended up with Amber Aurea, instead of my intended Songes. Tomorrow Songes or Do Son or my new love La Chasse aux Papillions. But today, I am cozy. 🙂
I love La Chasse! It’s such a lovely, happy fragrance. And ethereal, if that makes sense.
Yes, ethereal is a good word for it!
Philosykos EDT today. I smell very nice, if I do say so! It is just chilly this morning, but will warm up throughout the day.
Happy birthday to LeVar Burton! If any of you enjoy silly twitter accounts, may I recommend TNG_S8?
OMG — did not know about @TNG_S8. There goes my afternoon.
You’re welcome/I’m sorry! There is a book version, too, but I don’t know how they compare.
It was a much needed break, thank you. And all of those ideas were at least slightly plausible!
I’m scent-free today, unfortunately, due to yesterday afternoon’s migraine still prowling around. The February blahs have got me in their claws.
Migraines do overstay their welcome, don’t they? I hope you feel better soon. February is more than halfway over, now, at least.
I’m sorry to hear you haven’t recovered yet. Treat yourself kindly, and get well soon!
I’m joining you in both the unscentedness and the migraine. Luckily, mine hasn’t taken the leap into real pain yet and is just affecting my vision and speech. I really hope nobody at work thinks I’m on something. Feel better soon!
So sorry, and to MikasMinion as well! Get better, guys.
Ugh. Hope you start feeling better. Spring is just around the corner!
🙁
Sorry to hear about the migraine. 🙁
I grew up with Reading Rainbow and Star Trek: Next Gen, and I really do trace my interest in science and later getting my degree from being curious and reading. Thanks, LeVar!
SOTD: Korres Jasmine shower gel (which is truly hydrating) and layered with Body Shop Satsuma Body Mist. A perfect antidote to the rainy day outside!
Sounds like a great combination!
Having slept a solid six hours without waking once, I am celebrating by departing from my 15 days in a row of comfort scents for a little experiment. On my right arm is Rahele, and on my left is Dame’s Osmanthus.
Somehow I missed Reading Rainbow for my kids. Word Girl, Clifford, and our family’s much beloved Arthur were staples when the kids were home sick. . .
Kanuka! You are back. Missed you yesterday. After our Rachel Carson reminiscences… the very next day I read an article recalling her 1953 fight against Eisenhower’s pick to head the EPA. In case you are interested: https://qz.com/910572/silent-spring-author-rachel-carson-warned-of-the-threats-posed-to-the-environment-by-political-appointees-like-scott-pruitt/
We are making progress and yet nothing is changing. –A. Camus
oh, can you give us an update on the Rahele vs Dame’s Os slapdown?
Enquiring noses need to know…. 🙂
Agreeing here- love to know how they compared!
Okay. (clears throat) . . .
I applied the perfume about 7 hours ago. The Rahele was a mix of faint apricot and suede/leather–osmanthus, with iris, and a little dry rose, and maybe sandalwood…but the overall feeling was of elegance. The Dame was all bright apricot fruit and leather, and something that made me think of a rope rubbing against wood so fast it starts to smoke but is not yet burning… Since I do not know what Osmanthus smell like in real life, this may have been what I was smelling.
When the Dame Osmanthus calmed down, it was very pretty, but linear… and I still got that bottom note of something a little to hot.
The Rahele lost its hints of apricot slowly, but are gone now. It had some powdery element, and little sparks of herbs and spices in a creamy floral base.
Now, I can still easily smell the Dame, and what is more, the remnants are still pretty similar to the perfume’s launch. But the Rahele? It is faintly there. If I had any more (but I will because of a bet I won I have a 3 ml decant winding its way to me 😉 ) I would reapply it. What I detect with nose pressed to wrist is powder, suede, and sweet flowers.
Happy Thursday to all! Robin, I totally appreciate that video. I’m a huge fan of the Doors going back to the Cretaceous period. Morrison went to school (briefly!) here in town, and when I was in Paris, I did the obligatory visit to his grave (amongst many other literary and musical luminaries!). I have always thought their music was emblematic of that period in history, but has still stood the test of time. Fallon did a great job!
In other news, SOTD is Safran Troublant for its soothing medatative qualities while having taxes done this morning. I’m getting a return, so a big Thank You to Uncle Sam for deeming me worthy enough to get some of my hard earned income back!
The burger kick continues! Just wolfed down a wonderful Angus burger smothered in melted smoked Gouda, embraced by a deep red beefsteak tomato, nestled in two fistfuls of mixed greens and kissed by spicy mustard and ketchup on a whole wheat sandwich round. I’m full, but glutonously wishing I could manage a second one.
Beautiful day in the swamp and I hope everyone is enjoying Almost Friday Day????
Sounds like you hit the jackpot with perfume and burgers and hopefully taxes. Guess your van will have gold fittings now. And shagpile on the walls and ceilings
No gold fittings. Going for a roof rack and solar panels ????
Wow, what a day! You smell great and you got money back and a burger? Sounds like heaven.
Every once in awhile the stars line up and life is GOOD! Today is one such day and I intend to enjoy it to the fullest measure????
Yay for tax refunds!
You smell great. I’ve really fallen for Safran Troublant. So much so that I was trawling the interwebs just last night scheming to buy a bottle but haven’t yet found one for the right price. Soon it will be mine…
The deals are out there, but timing is everything. I have a humongous bottle, so if you need a decant to tide you over until you get your FB, just hit me up at taiga101 in the land of yahoohoolagins. Cheers!
That is so very sweet of you! I know I’ll break down any second now and just buy it anyways 😉
Your whole post cheered me up immensely, thank you!
You’re welcome! I can’t tell you how many times I have read this blog and it has lifted me out of an ugly place! So, thank YOU!
Mmm. You smell delish. And that burger! I think I know what I need for dinner now.
Your burger description made my mouth water. Dangit. Congrats on the refund!
Cool and foggy here, Lyric is my scent of the day.
Perfect for a cool, foggy day!
Gorgeous!
Lovely!
Dries van Noten today. Just loving the wafts I occasionally get!
Dries????!! You smell fantabulous!
Love it! You smell wonderful.
Woke up to a slight dusting of snow on the ground and was very happy to have dabbed myself with a little Youth Dew bath oil to keep me company on a slushy ride to work today. I am staying clear of the “scent sensitive” co-worker today – thank goodness she is in a different building.
Nice perfume, Robin. It’s a Northern Hemisphere morning: dark, cloudy and cold so I might wear Myrrh and Tonka or one of the six samples that came with it….thank you JM. Glum today as I am going to the Murder House. Not only do I have a fractured tooth but the dentist suggested scaling and that is one thing I hate. That hideous scraping noise and the irritation when that proddy scraper thing digs into your gums…. And no, the tatty poster of dolphins taped to the ceiling above my head does not take me to a happy place. What do dolphine know about teeth scaling? Also, will have that annual nagging question: should I get my nose pierced while half my face is numb from the anaesthetic? Gonna wear Poison Girl. Two can play at the pain game.
Oh Kanuka! I empathize with your dental dilemma! If it makes you feel any better, every time I go to the dentist, my eyes start to spontaneously leak. This is very disconcerting for my long suffering dentist, and completely humiliating for me. In an effort to make me feel better, she told me that sometimes the novacaine causes people to have “unusual emotional and physical responses.” Wasn’t that nice of her? Deep down, I know I’m just a dental sissy and I probably should just accept my 2 year old crybaby inner child. I’m quite sure you are much more brave and stoic. Sending you dental hugs????
Kanuka, your creative thinking has me giggling, I never would have thought to have something pierced while numb from dental lidocaine…I did my earlobes at 15 with a needle and an ice cube. I could have had my navel pierced after laparoscopic gallbladder surgery…a missed opportunity, there. 🙂
Definitely a missed opportunity….I also missed the chance to get everything below the waist tattooed when I had a epidural/caesarean. What was i thinking????
One of the women on my staff pleaded with her doctor to do a tummy tuck at the same time as her hysterectomy.
I say, go for the piercing. You deserve it! Poison Girl would want you to.
Ugh, sorry to hear this. My dentist uses some sort of water jet for scaling – it’s not painful and no scraping! There’s, um, a disturbing amount of blood, though. Maybe you could ask about that (if the blood thing doesn’t make you squeamish)?
Enabler moment: get the piercing!
My sympathies to you. I have to take a valium for anything more serious than a cleaning. I would definitely take advantage for the piercing!
Yes, drugs help. My dentist introduced me to triazolam, for which I am eternally grateful.
Sorry about the dental woes. I vote “yes” to the piercing (and a great opportunity for facial tattoos also)! Wish I’d thought of that when I did mine 20+years ago. Although, at that age, I wasn’t thinking all that much.
I always ask for the nitrous oxide, in vanilla scent. It can get you to a semi happy place.
LOL @ “Two can play at the pain game.” And tatty dolphins on the ceiling do not help! My routine at the dentist is to curl up in a blanket, ask for the remote and headphones and watch tv during any & all procedures. Gas is available, and drugs if I make arrangements in advance. She is more expensive than most dentists and I always suspect I’m subsidizing her fancy office, but it’s worth it.
My dentist has a dramatically modern and beautiful office AND she’s fantastic. It was probably a business tax deduction, so I’m not sure it added that much to my bill, and I really do enjoy it. 🙂
Go for the piercing! Go for the piercing! Listen to you! You are all very naughty. Sadly ( or, rather, thankfully) the numbed area turned out to be somewhere between my lower lip and chin (along the drool line) so any piercing may have ended up looking like a wart on a witch. $370! I’m on a dentist no-buy for the rest of the year
What? You didn’t take the opportunity to get a chin stud!? Sheesh.
I know – pathetic.
Good luck, Kanuka. The Macy’s Herald Square windows on Broadway features Poison Girl with the slogan “I’M NOT A GIRL. I AM POISON.” repeated over and over again in red.
nice! I actually like Poison Girl (post 20 mins) and in time so will everyone else! Ba ha ha.
Staying on the summery theme today with Sikkim Girls.
Ooh, nice!
Because the crowd wants blood, errr comparison, I am wearing Do Son EDT and EDP today. 😉
The EDT is greener w/ more citrus and a bit sharp. The EDP is more floral and spicy/woody without the sharpness. In the early stages, I am enjoying the EDP more when directly compared.
I shall report back more later from the field…2nd cup of coffee is brewing and…ready!
The differences become less apparent a couple hours into each perfume and they became hard to distinguish from one another. And about 4 to 5 hours in, they are both almost gone with the wind…
thank you for the very useful comparison!
This info will be very useful the next time I find myself at a Diptyque counter. Thanks!
Feeling summer-y in Cologne Indelebile (but it actually IS pretty summer-y where I am in the northern hemisphere). This remind me a lot of something – maybe Acqua di Parma with less citrus and more flowers? It gets compared to Neroli Portofino quite a bit, but I find NP to be much sweeter.
How is the sillage and the longevity? Is it really indelible?
I’m 2 hours in – so far so good, with moderate sillage. Will report back tonight . . .
Thanks for doing this in the name of science!
Yes – for science! Anyway, I’m six hours in and I still get a trace if I sniff my arm, but the scent is pretty much gone – it became a skin scent at about hour four. To be fair, I only spritzed an edt amount, not a cologne amount – I could see a generous application of this lasting all day.
This is a VERY nice cologne, maybe my favorite (I would have to do some direct comparisons). But I don’t see myself paying Malle prices for a bottle of cologne . . .
Thanks! It is one I’m planning on testing when I go on my birthday sniffathon this weekend.
Happy Birthday!
What a great way to celebrate a b-day!
After wearing Epic for the past few days, decided to go with Lyric for a change of pace. Amouage is working beautifully this week.
Yes indeed – wore Gold on Sunday, Lyric today. Homage will be up soon too.
Gorgeous!
I don’t have any kids, so I’ve never heard of Reading Rainbow, but anything that encourages reading is great! SOTD is EL Tuberose Gardenia. I’m trying to cheer myself up on a gray, rainy day.
I’ve never heard of reading rainbow either but I it sounds like a good combo.
But you guys have heard of Star Trek: The Next Generation, right? He was on that too 🙂
Yay, LeVar – an all-around good guy.
SOTD is Seville l’Aube, good for any hemisphere!
Is there anything LeVar CAN’T do? I don’t think so…!????
Yes!, good in all weathers!
Still (!) getting through my Penhaligon’s Bluebell, which may well be my last bottle given I don’t care for the direction in which the company seems to be going – I tend to overspray for my weekly volunteer sting at a local charity shop as you sometimes get an unpleasant surprise when you open/sort a bag of donated clothes & it’s always nice to be able to have a quick wrist sniff of something pleasant! Thank you to everyone who wished me well last week when I had a mini rant about a particularly hard-to-budge head cold I had acquired. All set for my visit to my brother on Sunday – I leave Aberdeen, Scotland at 5:20am (aka stupid o’clock) & arrive in Tampa at 6pm local time – that will be a challenge…I have elected to take my Hampton Sun ‘Privet Bloom’ with me, which the company very kindly sent (with no delivery charge) from their head office in NYC to friends in Seattle we were visiting at the time. It’s a smaller bottle than the one I bought for the first time in Glasgow, so I anticipate using a lot of it, thus giving me the option sooner than I had thought of opening my more recently purchased Martin Margiela, which then gives me the option of buying something else entirely sooner than I had anticipated – oh good!
Have fun!
Thank you so much!
Bon voyage!
Thank you, looking forward to it.
“Stupid o’clock” cracked me up! 😀
Glad to hear it – still makes me chuckle, too. even though I use the term quite often when relevant (which is often if I want to go anywhere from here!).
SOTD-PdE Ambre Russe.
I was going to test SL Fumerie Turque while it is still cold out there, but remembered that I still have cold and my sniffer doesn’t work properly.
Get better, and yes, don’t leave the FT til August!
SOTD = Oud Wood. Never good at leaving well enough alone, I layered Gucci by Gucci EDP on top, which kinda muted the OW. not sure I’ll do that again.
And there are only a few perfumes that can eat up Oud Wood 😉
SOTD Songe, lovely in cold and mild weather, I find it headache inducing in hot weather.
Today felt like the first day of spring!
SOTD is Chanel Gardenia edt from my mini. It’s nice enough I guess. I still have to try AG Gardenia Passion.
A very Happy Birthday to LeVar Burton! …Robin, thanks for adding the video! I hadn’t seen it before, and it’s completely made my day.
I’m doing the reverse-hemisphere-scent thing today with Guerlain Chant d’Arômes.
OK, fellow geeks out there, if you hadn’t heard about this before, get ready for your head to explode: Reading Rainbow + Geordie La Forge (ovbs) + Battlestar Galactica!
http://collider.com/reading-rainbow-live-recap-battlestar-galactica/
I love Chant d’Arômes.
It’s definitely a winner. I suspect my decant will turn into a full bottle at some point.
Oh, great article! Thank you for the link.
I’d forgotten that Reading Rainbow ran for 23 years. TWENTY-THREE years. LeVar, you are a hero, now and forever.
RR is one of the things in this world that should be required to keep going forever. There are several specific episodes that I still remember, all these years later (e.g. the one on the ST:TNG set with Michael Dorn in his Worf costume: “Stand aside! I take large steps!”). And all of those memories are tied to the love of books–awesome!
Ok, I never saw that episode. Hope I can find it somewhere.
Hmm… too old myself and with no children, I don’t know the reading rainbow. How old you ask? Try Captain Kangaroo! 🙂
SOTD: SSS Cocoa Sandalwood – because I’m making a sample – now I want to gnaw my hand!
I watched both! 🙂 Though Captain Kangaroo I saw in reruns and Reading Rainbow I watched as a teen.
OMG, I remember Captain Kangaroo! I used to LOVE it when Mr. Moose would drop the ping pong balls on the Captain’s head.
I grabbed my sample of Dasein Summer this morning, because appropriate, and the first 20 minutes were PLEASANT GRAPEFRUIT EXPLOSION and then it disappeared and I forgot about it until now when I smelled my wrist to discover a very lovely orange blossom hanging around. A nice surprise!
I had a sample of that and felt like I was drowning in a vat of cilantro. I don’t think I wore it long enough to get to the orange blossom. So fascinating how different skin and noses respond!
In Carnal Flower. Super spring-y here today. It snowed last Sun-Mon which killed all of my potted herbs, but this morning there was a big cluster of new chive shoots that are already 6″ tall! I remember being amazed by my chives thriving this time last year. If you’d like another harbinger of spring alongside your crocuses and daffodils, plant some chives!
Great way to celebrate LeVar Burton’s birthday – watch the 2016 “remake” of Roots, which he produced for the History Channel. It has a great cast and is extremely well done (though it can be difficult to watch.) It seemed to be off the radar when it came out last year but I happened to catch it and would highly recommend. http://roots.history.com/about
I missed the new Roots when it aired, but iirc it was well-received, so thanks for the reminder.
I stopped at the grocery store on the way home, and the cashier said ” I love your perfume, what is it” of course, I was super happy(and a little surprised) “I’m wearing Angel” I said. Then she responded “oh, I will check it out next time I’m at Victoria’s Secret” lol, for a second I was really confused! Once I figured it out, I just said “you should do that”
Ha!
I don’t know why you were surprised, my old college roomie has been wearing Angel since it came out and I’ve always loved the way it smells. She must use a light hand because I just get light wafts of vanilla. I think it’s people who’ve overdone it who’ve given it the bad rap.
You smell lovely!
Atelier’s Bois Blonds today. Bergamot & neroli + incense = love.
LeVar Burton was my first crush. Happy Birthday LB! I’ll always be a fan ❤
Hermes Kelly Caleche
Goodness, at first I thought you said he was your first cousin and I was about to ask for your autograph!
That would be Ah May Zing!!!
Happy beautiful springing day to you all! Still testing samples from a generous Nstr and I’m Sampling Reveal on one arm and Beautiful on the other. Beautiful is!
Enjoying lots of coffee and plant catalogs here!
My sister wears Beautiful, both you and she smell, er, uh, Beautiful ?
LOL
I have read that Andy Warhol was buried with a bottle, he apparently wore it a lot.

Some days, only SL Iris Silver Mist will do. I particularly like it at this time of year when it’s technically still winter but the suddenly much brighter days make it seem like spring.
Continuing my Month of Roses. I’m on Lucas’ calendar today!
SOTD = Jo Malone Red Roses
4 spritzes and it is still chugging along for a good 8 hours.
plyushka – I have not yet worn the JM samples I got from Macys yesterday. I have really high hopes for them and will not be too bothered if they don’t last long. Chanel No. 5 EDT (2-3 spritzes) lasts 2 hours, 4 spritzes of CdG barely 30 minutes and I enjoy them both!
I am not a fan of JM scents, but M&T and I&C were pretty good. Will be interested in split of I&C.
I hear you on short lived perfume, I have couple that only last 2-3 hours (28 La Pausa and Cristalle), but I love them anyway!
