Friday scent of the day 2/3

Posted by Robin on 3 February 2017 404 Comments

flowers

Happy Lemming Friday! Our community project for today: you acquired a sample because you kept hearing about it (here or elsewhere), now you think you might just have to buy the bottle. Thanks to SheriG for the idea!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

My pick: Hiram Green Moon Bloom. It came out in 2013, but I didn't try it until I started seeing mentions (both reviews on other blogs and comments here). I reviewed it in 2014, and it's still languishing on my buy list. I "almost" buy it frequently.

Reminder: on 2/10, wear a fragrance with lavender, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

My lemming today was from this site. I’d seen so many NSTers post about how much they love this fragrance and how it should be considered a classic. I actually didn’t even try a sample of it, so it’s more of a lemming blind buy, but I’m glad I got it.
I’m in Infusions d’iris by Prada.

Infusions d’iris is so beautiful and one of my top 10 favorites. I also got my full bottle based on the reviews here.

Lemming: Tauer PHI Un Rose de Kandahar. My sample is about to finish and I would love, adore, die to buy a full bottle. That would be my first purchase after my “no buy” self-imposed restriction. Most of my full bottles purchases have been inspired by most of you NSTers, so the list keeps growing, and growing and growing ;)

I have a 15ml explorer size of PHI. Tauer sells them in sets of three and you can choose three different scents. I kept PHI and LdDM for myself and gifted the third scent to a good friend. PHI is so heady that I still have 3/4 of my bottle. It will last quite,a while.

I should have chosen Songe d’un bois d’été which I am coveting ever since I read the review of Rose Nacrée on Bois de Jasmin. Or maybe Ostara, but I’ve already got a bottle of that.
Instead I’m wearing one of my much loved Oriza L.Legrand samples, Marions-nous in this case. It’s a wonderful aldehydic floral, and old fashioned in all the right ways. I hadn’t really heard of Oriza online but was given a bunch of samples with one of my perfume purchases last year. Problem is, I may want nearly all of them. Have a great weekend!

Gorgeous choice! I love what I know so far of Hiram Green and am very proud of my bottle of Voyage, whose scent reminds me of my grandmother’s 1950s cream leather train case… pure nostalgia.

I’m wearing Galop d’Hermes from a decant. Read about it in blogs, saw price and thought “don’t sample” — yeah, right. Not love at first sniff, but am now well and truly hooked.
Amazing luck: a forum friend who bought a bottle for a song on Etsy wants to sell on:)

I am thinking a lot about him today since they are decommissioning the ship he served on during the Vietnam war. The “Big E”

I got a decant of L’Eau Scandaleuse from an NSTer who seems to have similar olfactory sensibilities and who is very “fragrance forward”. :-)
      It’s another spine strengthener.

Yesterday I misread Elisa P’s post and decided Chanel No.5 would ward off crankiness ( it was sun!!). But with L’Eau Scandaleuse on the wrists , a spray of Chanel No. 5 on the nape of the neck, and Bear inspired triple strength coffee anything is achievable.

Fendi Theorema – Robin, you told me that if I want to try it, I should do so soon, so I got a sample! Actually, it is the second time I am using it. I don’t think (at least yet) I need a bottle, but this fragrance is lovely, so I definitely want a larger decant.
And, by the way, I have an untried sample of Moon Bloom. I think I read about it on NST too.

It’s been a busy week, so I haven’t been able to check in much :( I almost went with Moon Bloom, but then I realised that as I own it already, it doesn’t fit the criteria.

So my pick is Maria Candida Gentile Hanbury – I kept seeing it mentioned and finally ordered a sample from Indie Scents. And now it’s gone and I’m thinking of a bottle.

So many lemmings for fragrances I would never have heard of but for raves read here, and I have so little self-control that nearly all of them have already turned into full bottles (Azemour, Alahiiiine, Barbara Bui, Dior Homme, Tam Dao …). Natori met the criteria for today’s theme until last night when I clicked “add to bag” at fragrancenet. Sigh. One that is still on the lemming list is De Profundis, and someday I plan to go to Paris and get my hands on a bell jar of it. In the meantime I will enjoy the decant swapped for with the lovely and generous hajusuuri, who I’m sure will be awarded so many jewels for her enabler tiara today that she’ll need a crane to get it off her head. :)

Seville A L’Aube is my lemming pick for today. I had let my sample languish undeservedly.

Everyone smells amazing today!! Have a lovely weekend.

For NY denizens…I’m visiting family and will have bits of time to explore the city ( probably just Manhattan this time). What would you suggest for delicious food ,new fragrances or anything else necessary? Thank you!

I would suggest sniffing at BG or Aedes
Eating NY pizza is never a wrong choice. Or you can do like I do, and eat french pastries at M Kayser, Dominque’s or Laudree in Soho in stretchy pants :)

A perfect afternoon for me is a stroll along or near central park heading uptown on the east side after smelling at BG’s and grabbing a cappuccino at Via Quadronno

I would guesstimate that 99% of my collection is lemming! I read about the wonderful scents here, and somehow samples get ordered…..My next full bottle that is going to be in my life is Etat Libre d”Orange Fils de Dieu. (Buying it next month around my birthday! LOL). It’s definitely a lemming pick!

BUT…..I’m in Superbowl mode today big time….GO FALCONS!!!!….so today I’m wearing Adidas Natural Vitality. Sporty and athletic for the day….

Ha ha, I live in Houston and am sick to death of Superbowl news and publicity and TRAFFIC and supposed places to go to see “celebrities” (all I’m sure people I care nothing about), so I plan to get out of Dodge this weekend!
The only good thing for me is that they’ve hung up nicely coordinated colored lights on some bridges in my neighborhood that go across the freeway and it’s pretty tonight. Also kind of fun to see the Goodyear Blimp flying around over downtown.

Iris Silver Mist. I bought a tiny sample, lived it, and catalogued that memory away. Then a friend mentioned she was going to Paris. Well naturally I imposed. I don’t want it often because I never want to run out.

I’m up earlier than normal because I’m driving out of town for a long weekend in Dallas. Trying to resist the closing grip of the Superbowl here in Houston. Just finishing some laundry then I’m off!

I think Silver Mist fits today’s theme for me as well: I got a sample (well, a small decant) because of what everybody was saying about it. Recently I wore it from that decant (almost empty now) again and thought that I would need a bottle…

Like JadainGA, most of my perfume collection is lemming. Before I fell down the rabbit hole I might have bought something at Sephora or a department store counter in a kind of haphazard way, but now I sample things I have read about on NST or in a review and buy them if I fall in love. I’m still in my pjs, but after I shower I will wear something from Andy Tauer or Hiram Green because I never in a million years would have even known of their existence had it not been for NST.

I would have to say that 90% of my lemmings get so intense that buying a sample just won’t do by the time I want to pull the trigger. So if I find a good price on a FB…
I just received Amouage Lyric Woman and sprayed it on this morning, previously unsniffed. Since I love Nahema and Samsara and frankincense is my friend I gave in to all the reviews that I have read and comments that have reinforced them. This is smelling beautiful from the open.
The other recent delight revealed from a lemming is Songes Annick Goutal. I did have a sample and wasn’t in love with it. But I find that samples often give a different slant to the full experience. Again, found a good price of a FB and when I sprayed it on, I lived in it for 3 days (respraying of course). Love it and didn’t expect it.

SOTD is the remnants of last nights perfume, Papillon Perfume’s Solome. The tiniest spritz last night and it’s still gorgeous all these hours later. I will refresh with another tiny spritz in a bit.

Like so many others, I learned about Salome on this blog and so happy I bought a small decant unsniffed. Blind buys are always risky business, but generally they turn out well for me. I would love a FB, but funding is being being diverted elsewhere these days. Also would love to try others in this line, especially Anubis.

    Happy, happy Friday!

Thank You! I know some are very put off by cumin, but for some strange reason, when I wear these types of scent, I don’t get any BO or funk. Cumin seems to work with my chemistry, turning into a warm, dark, seductive
Floral forward scent. Very feminine but also languorous, humid, and warming. I hope others don’t get BO when I breeze by…????

I read about it again and again, but assumed I would hate it (I don’t like vanilla scents, and I could not wrap my head around smelling like rubber). But I eventually ordered a tiny decant, just to see what the fuss was about. Wound up ordering a bottle the first day I wore it, and now it’s one of my favorites.

    Happy Friday + weekend all!

Actually, it’s a good advice… I probably should do it: with the current price I’ll feel better if I never use it and it turns than if I want to wear it, and it costs arm and leg to buy.

I’m wearing Dzing, which was in the first set of samples I ever ordered from Aedes several years ago. I had to try it after reading the descriptions and reviews!

My decant is running low, so I’m hoping they’re still making it when I finally run out!

FYI, the Dzing! in the old packaging is showing up on discount sites now. Would be a good time to buy. I’ve had it for years now and it’s still one of my most beloved leathers – tempted to say THE most.

SOTD is Eau des Merveilles. I blind bought a 15 ml bottle a few years after reading about it here and over at BdJ. It was love, and I quickly went through that bottle. I will never be without it and would say that it is one of my top 5. It works for me anytime of year, any occasion.
I have a feeling Infusion d’Iris falls into this same category, so I have to try that one!

The Le Galion is also a bit rooty, but might be best in warmer weather. It doesn’t have the leathery facet that Equistrius has.

The last lemming I actually purchased was probably Penhaligon’s Ostara, but I’m out of town and don’t have it with me.

I, um, went to the mall yesterday and wandered around Perfumania. Confessed to the SA that I “have a collection” and was just wondering if they had some scents I hadn’t smelled. They did – like the Ivanka Trump fragrance (I gave it a shot with an open mind, but Nope), and a couple of other department-store frags that also didn’t interest me. Then I saw their clearance rack, which had a bottle of Lolita Lempicka Eau de Minuit for $24. I like the original LL and thought about buying it for a while, just never did, and then I read some descriptions of the Minuit and a lemming was born. But those limited editions are hard to find (boo) and so very slightly different from one another, and from the original… confusing.

Long story short, I bought the Eau de Minuit and am wearing it today. It’s a bit less licorice, a bit more violet, a good bit more benzoin than the original LL. Reminds me somewhat of Caron Aimez-Moi, except AM had this chalky vanilla in its drydown that I never loved. I think I like this better.

My bottle is 100ml. Not sure what year, lemme pop over to Fragrantica and peruse LL bottles… okay, I’m back. I think it’s this one. Dark purpley-blue box, gold “stem” sprayer. http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Lolita-Lempicka/L-Eau-de-Minuit-Edition-2013-22485.html

I just looked online and they don’t seem to have it, but if you are able to call the store in Nashville (615) 678-0793, I think they had one more bottle on the shelf and I bet they’d ship it to you if you’re in the US.

Thanks, mals86. I have that one! I’m in Canada and I got it at Winners which is our version of TJ Maxx/Ross, for $40 C. which is about $31 U.S. so you got a really good deal! I bought 2 different Eaux de Minuit for $40 each because they were originally $70 which was a good price compared to the original price too. I liked the ivy too but I seem to like all the LL fragrances that come in an apple bottle.

I have a serious weakness for the LL apple bottles. I have so far resisted the Minuit, just because I already have a few, but that one sounds really nice – less licorice and more violet.

          Uh-oh. Serious weaknesses indeed. :)

I am kind of missing the green note the original has (the ivy, I think it was?). That was part of what made it so interesting to me, this little green thread in the middle of the gourmandy stuff. It’s probably why I liked PdN Kiss Me Tender, too. But the Eau de Minuit is nice.

Another lemming in Hiram Green. Trying Arbole Arbole for the first time and oh my goodness… I love it! Who knew a patch could be so green and uplifting? My only regret is that I did not apply more boldly. I’m afraid my conservative dabs will wear away before I can get back home to reapply. Live and learn.

I bought a bunch of lemming samples from Luckyscent that arrived this week along with a $20 coupon which is now burning a hole in my pocket. Can I resist? If not, how will I choose? At least I can cross LDDM off my list – I almost had to scrub it, much to my surprise. I’m really digging these Hiram Greens though. And there’s always Neela Vermeire…

Many of my lemmings have been the result of the Turin/Sanchez guide, but the one I went for after reading a review by Angela back in 2007 was Niki de Saint Phalle, and I was not disappointed. My SOTD is L’Artisan Vanille Absolument.

But as our weatherman (hopefully) pointed out last night, two years ago our winter was warm like this and then within two weeks in mid-Feb. and early March we had two snows of over two feet each! I might be in the minority here hoping for this. ;-)

Then I discovered Serge Lutens (and purchased a bottle)….the rest is history. I had to make room in my closet last summer voor my bottles and samples. And now, almost a year later, the urge to share my experiences and talk to other fume fans grew stronger and stronger. :)

Are you in Houston visiting? Best place to go try perfume here is Kuhl-Linscomb on Kirby at Alabama. Or maybe you live here and know it already? Some guy from NY was on the news last night saying “Houston is a dump” and everyone was p.o’d. big-time!

I live here in Houston; born and raised here. I live on the Northwest side of town, so I am hardly ever on Kirby. I haven’t heard of Kuhl-Linscomb. I honestly get my perfumes from the Galleria (Neiman Marcus). If not there, I get it from like LuckyScent or STC. I heard about it. He is supposed to be some “shock – jock” from NY. They claim he is a huge “donkey” and says things to get a rise out of folks. Because my side job is in Journalism, I thought about contacting him to comment (I have been known to be quite outspoken), but then I remembered something that our former FLOTUS said, “When they go low, we go high!” Houston is known for our class, southern hospitality, and fantastic diversity. The ONLY bad thing about Houston is our strange weather……something we have no control over. If he doesn’t like it here, go back to where he came from. Since we don’t live up to his standards, I so hope that the hotel he is staying in and the restaurants he has been eating at heard of his thoughts and are doing their darnest to “live up to his expectations”. The idiot should have waited until he left to make a comment. Smh, he’s so stupid!

Ha, someone should move all his stuff from his hotel to an actual dump and then have a taxi take him there to stay. …Or fill his room with tons of empty garbage bags and air freshener. What a jerk.

    Happy Friday!

Not a lemming, but I just may try Yuzu Man, a sample that a wonderful Splendorist sent me during the freebiemeet. I am generally not a fan of wearing men’s scents, but this one seems unisex enough to be interesting.

Robin, you smell wonderful! I did buy a bottle of Moon Bloom last year, and I’ve never regretted it.

I’m in Azemour, another blind split that worked out swimmingly, and a perfect fragrance for this time of year, when winter has gotten tiresome and I’m dreaming daily of warmer weather while enjoying the season’s citrus bounty.

99% of my lemmings and fb purchases have been as a result of the wonderful posts here on NST. A very generous soul sent me a sample of a Rose perfume that I’d been wanting to try and included a number of great extras. I fell in love and I’m wearing O.J. Taif today. It much sweeter and comforting than I expected. Sooooooo lovely though. Oh my- will wait for a sale :).

It’s been fun reading the names of all these scents. So many of my scents are lemming ones from being in this website. Infusion d’Iris, Cuir de Lancôme, Natori, Coromandel (decant), Ostara, Narciso… the list goes on and on.

The only scent I have with me that qualifies is Angel Muse. I got samples and already acquired the small bottle.

My SOTD is Rahele and I also read about it and bought a sample due to reading about it on here. It is just SO seamlessly beautiful! I love the top mandarin notes and the florals are so well-blended. Though it lists many spices, I don’t find any of them standing out or intruding. It’s a really subtle blend. Now due to this project of the week, and thinking things over, I am being tempted by the FB on Luckyscent. Not cheap! This is a case where the bottle is so gorgeous I really want it for its own sake, and Luckyscent is so good about sending you samples of what you’re interested in. I’ve talked myself into pushing that little button. ;-)

Lemming Zoologist Civet. I haven’t smelled such a gorgeous tuberose since Moon Bloom. It’s quite different from that, a bouquet instead of a soliflore, so I’m sure at least a travel size is in my future. One of the great things about both Zoologist and Hiram Green is that their perfumes are offered in reasonable sizes.

I’m wearing Balsamo della Mecca today to keep me warm. It’s cold outside!

I usually side-step samples and tend to blind-buy full bottles (cause if you’re a lemming you have to be prepared to jump off the cliff)…so thatccounts for Musc Nomade, Ostara (not right for me), Dame Dark Horse, Monsieur Li, Fresh Cream, Blackbird, Skive, etc etc etc BUT even I hesitated with Smell Bent Artist’s Studio and Florist Fridge and got samples of both. They are definitely worth trying. I love the originality and imagination that has gone into creating Artist’s Studio…where and why and how was the idea born? Also love the weird virtual reality of Florist Fridge…almost uncanny and slightly disturbing, like some weird clone experiment. Artist Studio is a total ‘wow’ perfume for originality but not an easy wear….more a successful concept than a perfume for me. And florist fridge just creeps me out a bit. But smells divine.

I often go straight to blind buys, and they have usually turned out fine. Sometimes after testing samples, the FB doesn’t work out for me somehow. So it’s not clear which approach is better for me.

I think blind buys are accompanied by such heightened anticipation that it’s hard to recognise a failure . I tend to like all my blind buys initially and it’s only after the buzz subsides that my critical brain kicks in…so it took a while before I decided Ostara and Dame New Musk weren’t right. The exception is Sweet by LL…I knew immediately it wasn’t for me

Hello, everyone. So. Here I am, thinking about lemmings in relation to my collection, and I have to confess that I have whole houses that are lemmings. See, without NST and other sources 5–6 years ago, I might not ever have realised the existence of (for instance) the Chanel Exclusifs, or the Hermessences, because I couldn’t buy them in A-NZ then. There is a sense, therefore, in which my entire collection is one huuuuuuuuge lemming with multiple lemming kittens clinging to it (I have NO idea what animal I am channelling with this image). A lot of the kittens, I discovered when I went looking for a SOTD, are perfumes I enjoy more in slightly cooler weather, and I ended up with one of my few summmer lemmings, Ninfeo Mio. I smell of cool, dim places and an unhurried pace. Gorgeous! And confession time: yesterday I slept for three hours after lunch (bliss!) and then pottered across the road to Chanel and bought two of the new lip crayons. Two! Does Donatella count lipsticks? No? Phew!

Oh dear…Perthgirl, I’m such a predictably girly gir, but I do love colour. I got no. 8, a dark purple-red-maroon, and no.4, called Coral, which is a clear pinkish red on me, very summery. I like the texture and the fool-proof application. Perfect for travelling, I hope–I once had an ordinary lippy disintegrate in a suitcase. The mess was extreme and if I missed even a crumb of the damn thing, it would turn up later as a stain on a shirt or trousers. It was very irritating because it reduced my available clothes by about 30%. These are disintegration-proof, I think.

I have never been on Luckyscent. I thought I would bite the bullet for both of us by ordering Stash off the Australian warehouse chemist site yesterday ($25) but when it came to paying they said they couldn’t ship fragrance to NZ. It’s like some odd 200 mile exclusion zone …. All that perfume flying in international skies but once it gets near us it becomes a dangerous good. So frustrating. Will have to buy lipstick instead. Try Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks if you haven’t already. I have one called Bond Girl which is a rose brown.

True, it’s not like you’d sniff it and think “tomatoes!” The note it contains is tomato leaf rather than ripe tomatoes. If you remember Demeter’s tomato/tomato leaf fragrances, that’s more like it. It just has a certain softness and freshness, particularly in the top notes.

I agree with cazaubon that it’s a leather perfume, but an unusual one.

I got the Zoologist samples because it seemed like the line was getting a lot of love, and it made me curious. So I’m wearing Civet today because I could do with at least a travel spray of this. Actually, I could really go for a travel spray coffret of Civet, Nightingale, and Bat, and maybe Rhinoceros too.

So half the line that I liked well enough to want more than a sample isn’t bad. Beaver and Macaque were almosts.. mostly good but for one note that didn’t sit well on my skin (Macaque did smell really good on the seat belt in my car, incidentally).

Like others here, there are so many things in my collection that I tried after reading about here. NST was one if the first sites I started reading back in 2009 or so, so I can thank you all for a wonderful addiction that shows no sign of abating. Two particular things come to mind that I tried early in my explorations – Frederic Malle’s Iris Poudre and SL’s Bois de Violette. It took me years to get hold of FBs, but worth the effort and frustration.

Wearing something completely different for this morning’s housework – AG’s Le Chèvrefeuille, another one I think I read about here first.

I’m loving reading all the lemmings and will have to go back and finish. I have a couple of full bottle lemmings: no 22( though wendysue gifted me enough to tide me over for now), Auphorie Eternal Voyage- can’t find the smidge left of a sample, grrr.
I’m sure there are others but I went with HdP 1899(Ernest Hemingway) which is heavily hyped on some of the FB swap groups and of which a free manuf sample was given to me on a visit to Twisted Lily. Bright, creamy, spice with a nice herbal, juniper twist in the opening. Really loving it!

I couldn’t find EITHER of my lemmings today – Tabac Tabou (maybe when Beautyhabit has their friends and family sale?) or Agent Provocateur. So I put on AP L’Agent, which I like but not as much as OG AP.

    SOTD: LPRN Couture
I rarely buy a fragrance because having worked for a major perfume house for over 20 years, I have enough for the rest of my life. Back in the very early part of this century, a demo gave me a sample of Adrienne Vittadini Venezia. I ended up eventually buying a bottle which I loved till the last drop! I once worked nearby a demo who was flogging CSP. He gave me a sample and I did buy a bottle of Aqua Motu. No regrets. It’s great!

Today’s SOTD is a lemming inspired by NST’s own Kevin.

His review of Annick Goutal’s Les Orientalistes rather intrigued me, and I picked up a sample set of all 4. Ambre Fetiche was the first one that made it onto the full bottle list, and purchased in short order. It also fits neatly into the comfort scent group, which I really seem to want to wear right now. Maybe it’s the February blahs?

Wearing Philosykos today, which I remember reading and hearing a lot about probably 8 – 10 years ago. I don’t get any of the green fig leaves or sun-warmed soil others mention when they talk about it, which is disappointing, but I still really like it as an easy to wear every day scent. It’s a jammy fig that wears close to the body for me. I will likely go fb on this one.

Today I’m wearing perfume that can be probably classified as anti-lemming: I acquired a sample (well, a mini bottle), and I liked perfume itself but I will not be getting a full bottle of it because of what I read about it. It is a beautiful rose perfume, so I decided to make an exception and wear it today both for this community project and the Month of Roses project.

Perfume I’m talking about is La Fille de Berlin (if anyone is curious why I won’t be wearing/buying it, the post, in which I explain that and link to reviews that anti-inspired me, is easy to find on my blog by the perfume name).

Before I tumbled into the rabbit hole, I thought of Chanel as a fashion house, not a perfume house – and one with an aesthetic so at odds with mine I never considered wearing any of their perfumes (except the classics I grew up with – 5, Cristalle, Coco.) I just didn’t think they would fit me.

After months of reading daily SOTD posts with multiple people wearing the Exclusifs and others heaping praise, I finally broke down and bought some samples. Then I bought some minis. Then 2 bottles.

Today I’m wearing Beige, a bottle of which I’ve considered many, many times. It’s one that I don’t wear that often but really is one of my favorite perfumes. I’d love to be able to spray it lavishly. Some day I’ll have that bottle! (I’m wearing the edt – haven’t tried the edp yet but have heard good things about it. Fingers crossed!)

I forgot about the theme today and wore Byredo M/M Ink. But the two lemmings on my list are JM Myrrh & Tonka and Olfactive Studio Close Up. I haven’t smelled the Close Up yet so that is just a maybe, but it sounds promising. I also want to add FM Outrageous to my collection, but I’ve already smelled it. I’m wearing CB I Hate Perfume At the Beach 1966. I don’t know what took me so long to try this – I have been trying to find the perfect “beachy” smell for years, but usually I go for more tropical scents. This is actually what I have been looking for the whole time. It’s coppertone, wet sand, driftwood, and saltwater without any nauseating aquatics or artificial coconut. Definitely need a bottle!

SOTD is Profumum Roma “Arso”. Read about it here, got a sample, loved it; now wearing it from a decant that is nearly gone. Notes are incense, leather, resin, virginia cedar and pine

The big question, of course, is this: when it is gone, can I carry on as before, or will I find there’s an Arso-shaped hole in my life?

Hey there, NST. It was a treat to read about the lemmings today. Sometimes I imagine an industry intern somewhere reading the SotD comments, deciphering the lingo, looking for patterns, making projections and guesses about the future, then throwing up their hands and heading for the door.

I enjoyed Theorema again today after trying it for the first time a few weeks ago. Gotta say the wee mini bottle is adorbs.

I went with Hiram Green Shangri La. I read glowing reviews of it, saw it mentioned here repeatedly as a SOTD, got a good-sized sample in a swap with Kelly, and while a FB is probably not in my future, a travel spray may well be. I’d tried Aperçu, Mitsouko (could barely smell the edt, and the edp threatened to scratch my eyes out), and one or two other old-school chypres, and thought that perhaps my tastes were just not sophisticated enough to appreciate the genre. Shangri La, though, is delightful. I can smell the peach and the spices and the flowers (can’t pick them out individually, though), and the moss running underneath (instead of blanketing) everything, all combining into something greater than the sum of its parts. Many lemmings have not worked out for me, but this one I loved, and it kept me from giving up on chypres completely. Thank you to everyone who mentioned it! (I’d venture some names, but I suspect I’d get them wrong.)

The other perfume that came to mind, one that is currently at the top of my FB list, is Amour de Cacao. Someone here, I think maybe Poodle, used to talk about it, which piqued my curiosity. (Cue Poodle, popping in to say she’s never worn AdC in her life.) I got a sample from Elisa P in last year’s Freebiemeet, then 5ml from StC, which is nearly gone. It’s noticeably chocolatey, but not too sweet or heavy. It’s perfume-y, in a good way, and easy to wear.

Now, off to tame the chaos that is my kitchen, and then back to read the rest of the comments. Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
