Happy Lemming Friday! Our community project for today: you acquired a sample because you kept hearing about it (here or elsewhere), now you think you might just have to buy the bottle. Thanks to SheriG for the idea!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
My pick: Hiram Green Moon Bloom. It came out in 2013, but I didn't try it until I started seeing mentions (both reviews on other blogs and comments here). I reviewed it in 2014, and it's still languishing on my buy list. I "almost" buy it frequently.
Reminder: on 2/10, wear a fragrance with lavender, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

My lemming today was from this site. I’d seen so many NSTers post about how much they love this fragrance and how it should be considered a classic. I actually didn’t even try a sample of it, so it’s more of a lemming blind buy, but I’m glad I got it.
I’m in Infusions d’iris by Prada.
Infusions d’iris is so beautiful and one of my top 10 favorites. I also got my full bottle based on the reviews here.
must smell that!
I smelled it once in Sephora a few years ago. It us beautiful.
Dang!!! That shoulda coulda woulda been my 1st lemming pick!
Twinsees in spirit!!
Hard to go wrong with that one.
One of my top 10’s too!
Lemming: Tauer PHI Un Rose de Kandahar. My sample is about to finish and I would love, adore, die to buy a full bottle. That would be my first purchase after my “no buy” self-imposed restriction. Most of my full bottles purchases have been inspired by most of you NSTers, so the list keeps growing, and growing and growing 😉
That is on my lemming list too!
You smell great! Perfect for rose month.
That was definitely a lemming for me! I bought a bottle almost instantly after trying my sample. You smell amazing!
Ditto this!
PHI really bowled me over, too. One sniff and I knew it was something special.
I have a 15ml explorer size of PHI. Tauer sells them in sets of three and you can choose three different scents. I kept PHI and LdDM for myself and gifted the third scent to a good friend. PHI is so heady that I still have 3/4 of my bottle. It will last quite,a while.
The set sound great! Thanks!
It may be more afforable than a FB?
I immediately looked it up and the explorer set IS cheaper than the FB of PHI, but only by about $20. Still definitely going on my to-buy list, thanks!
Lemming twin! I love this scent so much. A bottle is near the top of my wishlist.
Phi sounds so wonderful, I think it’s a lemming in waiting for many, me included!
This is one of perfumes I will consider buying (a travel spray) once my sample is done: I liked it much more than I expected.
Splitmeet coming up!
Count me in if you have any plans for this brand 🙂
Another PHI lover here. Those explorer sets lend themselves to an easy split (that’s how I got mine!)
Ditto on Phi being a lemming. The first time I tried it, up the list it went.
That one’s on my lemming list. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.
I should have chosen Songe d’un bois d’été which I am coveting ever since I read the review of Rose Nacrée on Bois de Jasmin. Or maybe Ostara, but I’ve already got a bottle of that.
Instead I’m wearing one of my much loved Oriza L.Legrand samples, Marions-nous in this case. It’s a wonderful aldehydic floral, and old fashioned in all the right ways. I hadn’t really heard of Oriza online but was given a bunch of samples with one of my perfume purchases last year. Problem is, I may want nearly all of them. Have a great weekend!
wow..you had me at old fashioned aldehydic floral
If you love those, try this by all means.
That sounds like one to add to the sample list. Somehow I’ve missed that line. I guess it’s an excuse for a trip to Twisted Lily.
It’s very retro, and I love it.
Sadly, TL dropped the line from the shop. But you should come out anyway????
You can get a set of 18 2 mL samples directly from Oriza Legrand – 42€
Ahh that is lovely. Had forgotten about that. You are making me want to be a lemming on that….
This sounds wonderful, I might end up as a lemming for it. I love old fashioned aldehydic florals.
Gorgeous choice! I love what I know so far of Hiram Green and am very proud of my bottle of Voyage, whose scent reminds me of my grandmother’s 1950s cream leather train case… pure nostalgia.
I’m wearing Galop d’Hermes from a decant. Read about it in blogs, saw price and thought “don’t sample” — yeah, right. Not love at first sniff, but am now well and truly hooked.
Amazing luck: a forum friend who bought a bottle for a song on Etsy wants to sell on:)
Galop d’Hermes is definitely on my lemming list, too!
ditto!
Mine too. It’s one of those scents that I crave– quickly working through my sample. We’ll see if the craving continues past that.
Lemming Gallop here too! Roses , le sigh. Congratulations on the great purchase!
Moon Bloom is fab!
Lemming : L’Eau Scandaleuse
A good perfume when you need to crack the whip and get things done
Homemade chai, fleece pj’s and the New Yorker…
Listening to some of my Dad’s music this morning ( i have a little playlist of all the songs I could remember he loved to play) This morning its “the letter” by The Box Tops
Sounds like your dad and I are from roughly the same era. Did he like The Association’s music too?
That I don’t have on my playlist but I just took a listen on youtube! That is his type of music for sure. Thank you for that. When I was younger he took me to a CCR concert, I don’t remember much other then him standing on his chair and dancing.
I am thinking a lot about him today since they are decommissioning the ship he served on during the Vietnam war. The “Big E”
Cherish!
Yes! And Never My Love. Think I’ll go start my playlist. 🙂
Ha, that’s on my 70s playlist.
Eva Cassidy did a good cover of The Letter:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-tkNl3sudI
Listening now! Love it
Thank you
Fun, thanks!
I got a decant of L’Eau Scandaleuse from an NSTer who seems to have similar olfactory sensibilities and who is very “fragrance forward”. 🙂
It’s another spine strengthener.
You smell great.
I got this from a generous NST’er
It is on the masculine side, for me, but there is something really addicting about it. For those don’t-mess-with-me days.
Yesterday I misread Elisa P’s post and decided Chanel No.5 would ward off crankiness ( it was sun!!). But with L’Eau Scandaleuse on the wrists , a spray of Chanel No. 5 on the nape of the neck, and Bear inspired triple strength coffee anything is achievable.
No 5 extrait always makes me feel like I’m bathed in sunlight, so it works either way 😉
Fendi Theorema – Robin, you told me that if I want to try it, I should do so soon, so I got a sample! Actually, it is the second time I am using it. I don’t think (at least yet) I need a bottle, but this fragrance is lovely, so I definitely want a larger decant.
And, by the way, I have an untried sample of Moon Bloom. I think I read about it on NST too.
I say get a bottle at Beauty Encounter (not affiliated) while they still have it in stock and the price is reasonable. Theorema is wonderful.
Thanks, Dawn, but no, I like it and enjoy it, but I do not love it, and I would spend 110$ on a perfume only if I were absolutely obsessed with it.
Hi scent twin! You smell fabulous.
Thanks! We both do. 🙂
Glad you got to give it a shot!
You smell lovely, Robin! Perfect choice to add some light & humidity to a February day. Think I’ll join you in Moon Bloom, def read about it here. It’s not often that our tastes align, except we’re in agreement about jasmine & tuberose.
Nice to have some overlap 🙂
SoTD:is my lemming, Galop by Hermes
I have heard SO many wonderful things here on NST that I had to try it. I love the bottle. It is even more unique in person.
My first reaction was all leather but with the 2nd wear it was lovely leather and rose. It is a geeat perfume.
I may have to buy it!!!!!
Gorgeous bottle, too.
My LOTD ( Lemming of the day) was sponsored by my CEO.
He always smelled fantastic, and after several years, I finally asked his wife what it was that he wore. She told me, and I now own the EDT, Body wash and lotion.
My SOTD is Bulgari Eau Parfumee au The Vert.
You smell very gorgeous.
The chosen scent of Ranger in the Stephanie Plum books! You smell fantastic!
Oohhhh – really ??? I am a big Ranger fan, although I stopped reading the series after Ranger and Stephanie made it into bed.
I’ve stopped reading too, but his au The Vert was mentioned regularly especially in the early books. And I seem to remember it was shower gel rather than cologne or aftershave. Might have been both. You can tell how long it’s been since I’ve read!
It was the shower gel. Work is quite intense that I need no brainer books to keep me sane!
And nothing better for the psyche than a good old belly laugh! 😀
Cuir de Lancome is my lemming. I’ve not bought a FB, but I’ve got a sizable decant and that’s plenty for me since I dab this one only.
Gorgeous, floral/leather scent.. one of my favorite leathers, frankly.
Happy Friday!
This one is my lemming too and I am wearing it today! I was luckily able to trade for some nice decants during the last swap meet. I actually didn’t Love It quite as much as I expected but I Like It Very Much am very happy with the quantity I have!
Awesome trade! You did well and definitely smelling quite beautiful today.
Like mals, I bought a bottle blind, and like you, I didn’t Love It. But it has grown on me over the past couple of years and it really hits the spot from time to time.
I bought my (first) bottle of Cuir de Lancome as a lemming blind buy. Bad idea, but it turned out so well that I bought another bottle. Good thing, too, because #1 is dangerously low.
Wow! Bottle #2 on the horizon. You do love it!
Crazy that they discontinued this one.
I bought my bottle as a lemming blind buy… I think I was specifically caught by your mention of it numerous times! I wasn’t too sure either when I got it, but I’ve since decided it is my beautiful precious…. It is something I think is generally reasonably priced on eBay.
Oooh! Pin me!
That was another lemming for me. I enjoy it every time I wear it.
This is on my try list – I’m a lemming-in-waiting.
It’s been a busy week, so I haven’t been able to check in much 🙁 I almost went with Moon Bloom, but then I realised that as I own it already, it doesn’t fit the criteria.
So my pick is Maria Candida Gentile Hanbury – I kept seeing it mentioned and finally ordered a sample from Indie Scents. And now it’s gone and I’m thinking of a bottle.
HA — and Hanbury was almost my choice! That’s very funny.
Have you started your new job?
Narciso Poudree, powder, vetiver, cedarwood, jasmine, a bit of rose.
A nice contrast to a flannel shirt and Levis.
Triple strength coffee.
Cold and overcast, life is beautiful. 😀
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Mmmm. I wore this last night, and it make my life more beautiful too. Peace be unto you as well.
Peace to you too, I’m enjoying single strength Darjeeling.
Life is indeed beautiful! Flannel shirts and jeans are the BEST!
Your scent and your shirt are a perfect match today. Both are very cozy.
Thank you, Everyone !
So many lemmings for fragrances I would never have heard of but for raves read here, and I have so little self-control that nearly all of them have already turned into full bottles (Azemour, Alahiiiine, Barbara Bui, Dior Homme, Tam Dao …). Natori met the criteria for today’s theme until last night when I clicked “add to bag” at fragrancenet. Sigh. One that is still on the lemming list is De Profundis, and someday I plan to go to Paris and get my hands on a bell jar of it. In the meantime I will enjoy the decant swapped for with the lovely and generous hajusuuri, who I’m sure will be awarded so many jewels for her enabler tiara today that she’ll need a crane to get it off her head. 🙂
HA! Hajusuuri crown enabler
Indeed! Ha! 🙂
LOL! I was reading from the bottom up and just saw this 🙂
Seville A L’Aube is my lemming pick for today. I had let my sample languish undeservedly.
Everyone smells amazing today!! Have a lovely weekend.
For NY denizens…I’m visiting family and will have bits of time to explore the city ( probably just Manhattan this time). What would you suggest for delicious food ,new fragrances or anything else necessary? Thank you!
I would suggest sniffing at BG or Aedes
Eating NY pizza is never a wrong choice. Or you can do like I do, and eat french pastries at M Kayser, Dominque’s or Laudree in Soho in stretchy pants 🙂
A perfect afternoon for me is a stroll along or near central park heading uptown on the east side after smelling at BG’s and grabbing a cappuccino at Via Quadronno
So many fun options. I like Lovestosmellgood’s pizza idea. Could do “fancy” brick oven pizza at Patsys.
Patsys is good!
Thanks! Maybe eating pastry in stretchy pants and walking all the way uptown to BG would be one itinerary. I’ve never heard of Patsy’s, but will definitely eat pizza in the other pair of stretchy pants 😀 .
Gosh, I feel like I hardly know Manhattan anymore! Except for all the perfume spots (the important things). So, what Lovestosmellgood said!
And you give me a hard time about not venturing to the boroughs! 🙂
But I work in Manhattan!!!
Oh.
The Whole Foods by Bryant Park just opened (6th and 41st)!
I meant Whole Foods Market so there are more prepared foods.
I would guesstimate that 99% of my collection is lemming! I read about the wonderful scents here, and somehow samples get ordered…..My next full bottle that is going to be in my life is Etat Libre d”Orange Fils de Dieu. (Buying it next month around my birthday! LOL). It’s definitely a lemming pick!
BUT…..I’m in Superbowl mode today big time….GO FALCONS!!!!….so today I’m wearing Adidas Natural Vitality. Sporty and athletic for the day….
Have a great weekend everyone!!!
Ha ha, I live in Houston and am sick to death of Superbowl news and publicity and TRAFFIC and supposed places to go to see “celebrities” (all I’m sure people I care nothing about), so I plan to get out of Dodge this weekend!
The only good thing for me is that they’ve hung up nicely coordinated colored lights on some bridges in my neighborhood that go across the freeway and it’s pretty tonight. Also kind of fun to see the Goodyear Blimp flying around over downtown.
Why is it called Superbowl? Better google it. Hope your team wins and you a great day.
Kanuka, I have no interest in football, but even I look up the Superbowl commercials online every year.
I have to admit I wasn’t sure if it was football or base ball…I always forget. Just found an article about the origin of the name in an old The Atlantic article. Now, to round off my education, I will look up the commercials…thanks!
Heh. My sister lives in Canada and I was at her house a couple of years ago when some friends of hers were talking about the Stanley Cup and I asked if that was the boating race.
Oops.
99% is probably about my number too.
Iris Silver Mist. I bought a tiny sample, lived it, and catalogued that memory away. Then a friend mentioned she was going to Paris. Well naturally I imposed. I don’t want it often because I never want to run out.
I’m up earlier than normal because I’m driving out of town for a long weekend in Dallas. Trying to resist the closing grip of the Superbowl here in Houston. Just finishing some laundry then I’m off!
What’s it like in Houston?
Will txt my brothers to check in as they’re both there as well.
That’s one I that’s been on my sample list for ages thanks to NST. Perhaps I’ll break down and try it out this spring…
I think Silver Mist fits today’s theme for me as well: I got a sample (well, a small decant) because of what everybody was saying about it. Recently I wore it from that decant (almost empty now) again and thought that I would need a bottle…
Like JadainGA, most of my perfume collection is lemming. Before I fell down the rabbit hole I might have bought something at Sephora or a department store counter in a kind of haphazard way, but now I sample things I have read about on NST or in a review and buy them if I fall in love. I’m still in my pjs, but after I shower I will wear something from Andy Tauer or Hiram Green because I never in a million years would have even known of their existence had it not been for NST.
Nice!
Vero Profumo Onda parfum is my lemming… although it’s expensive, so I probably won’t ever actually buy a bottle
Onda VdE is a true love for me! I’m hoping for a full bottle sometime before I die????
Today I shall wear Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue which I blind bought (I had sniffed the regular but never owned it) based on Robin wearing it and her comments/review.
It is a beauty. Go grab yourself a bottle today… no buys be damned.
Thanksgiving much for all the well wishes yesterday re: my job ending.
Rather thanks so much that is…turkey day is still a while away…
🙂
All the best on your next adventure!
one when door closes…
Giving thanks should be an every day mantra
Must smell this prada
You smell great! And I missed that it was your last day or week. Hope it’s all uphill and on to better horizons for you!
So sorry to hear about your current job ending. Best of luck to you in whatever comes your way next.
Good luck and all the best to you, She-ra!
You smell fantastic, of course, and adding to the good wishes!
Today’s lemming is Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia. My sample is almost finished and I’m considering another one – or maybe a full bottle.
I saw a bottle of this, once, at TJ Maxx or some other discounter. I hadn’t tried it, so I didn’t buy, but I KNEW there were those who loved it. Might be worth a glance from time to time–maybe it will show up somewhere unexpected?
Vintage 78 you smell beautiful! That’s one of my go anywhere favorites. It’s so well mannered and I’ve never been sorry I bought a fb. In fact I’m on fb no 3. !????
Marjorie Rose- email me if you’d like me to send you a sample! I’d be happy to. ???? Thanks again for the beautiful smellies you sent!
It’s such a classic white floral I think it’s FB worthy!
Nothing currently on my to buy list meets the criteria so I’m in Terracotta Le Parfum which I kept reading about when it first came out as a limited edition. Sprayed it on, had some lunch, bought 2 bottles 45 minutes later, have loved it ever since
Terracotta will likely be my next FB purchase thanks to you all!
LOVE. But I bought the 2 bottles at different times!
Terracotta is gorgeous!
You smell gorgeous! Terracotta is just beautiful in cold weather. ???? I heard about it here too ( thank you Robin!) and have A back up bottle now.
Been there, lemmed that. 😉 Don’t have a bottle yet though….
🙂
I first heard about my SOTD here on NST. A few people have posred about April Aromatics recently so today I am wearing Calling All Angels. A lemming is born.
That was my other choice for today! Love it! You smell gorgeous!
It reminds me of Aftelier’s Ancient Resins, which I LOVE. I only have a dabber of CAA, so I am wondering if there are similar or am I imagining things?
They are similar….
I’ve never tried Ancient Resins although I really want to! I thought CAA was a bit similar to Incense Pure too.
The April Aromatics website has 15 mL bottles. You can blame Hamamelis for this info.
Thank you!!! It seems like I have no more reasons not to get Unter den Linden for this spring!
I would have to say that 90% of my lemmings get so intense that buying a sample just won’t do by the time I want to pull the trigger. So if I find a good price on a FB…
I just received Amouage Lyric Woman and sprayed it on this morning, previously unsniffed. Since I love Nahema and Samsara and frankincense is my friend I gave in to all the reviews that I have read and comments that have reinforced them. This is smelling beautiful from the open.
The other recent delight revealed from a lemming is Songes Annick Goutal. I did have a sample and wasn’t in love with it. But I find that samples often give a different slant to the full experience. Again, found a good price of a FB and when I sprayed it on, I lived in it for 3 days (respraying of course). Love it and didn’t expect it.
That’s awesome. And Lyric is gorgeous.
Lyric is gorgeous. You smell beautiful!
I like the mental image of an intense lemming, and Lyric is a beauty! My favorite Amouage, and the only one I have a full bottle of.
I love Lyric and adore Samsara as well.
Enjoy !
You smell great! Congrats on a successful blind buy!
My lemming today is Thierry Mugler’s Les Exceptions Oriental Express. I was interested when Robin reviewed it back in 2014, and I know others here have praised it, too. I -finally- got around to ordering a sample recently and I’m wearing it now for the first time. It’s lovely. Sigh…
It’s gorgeous isn’t it?
Gah, this is on my eternal “to try” list! Quite sure you smell exceptional????
I love that one too but have resisted buying a bottle so far.
You smell lovely!
So wonderful when it was s JUST RIGHT!!
That one is great!
Y’all are not enabling me…
Y’all are not enabling…
Y’all are not…
Dang it!
Y’all are!…
Wish those came in travel sizes!
It would be brilliant, I would love a small bottle of this, but I don’t care for it enough to want a full bottle.
I thought it was so wonderful I bought 2 bottles. You smell great.
Oriental Express – wowee!
SOTD is the remnants of last nights perfume, Papillon Perfume’s Solome. The tiniest spritz last night and it’s still gorgeous all these hours later. I will refresh with another tiny spritz in a bit.
Like so many others, I learned about Salome on this blog and so happy I bought a small decant unsniffed. Blind buys are always risky business, but generally they turn out well for me. I would love a FB, but funding is being being diverted elsewhere these days. Also would love to try others in this line, especially Anubis.
Happy, happy Friday!
You smell great. Salome is intriguing because the cumin makes it either or strong love or dislike fragrance. It was brave to buy it unsniffed and I’m glad it works so well on your skin.
Thank You! I know some are very put off by cumin, but for some strange reason, when I wear these types of scent, I don’t get any BO or funk. Cumin seems to work with my chemistry, turning into a warm, dark, seductive
Floral forward scent. Very feminine but also languorous, humid, and warming. I hope others don’t get BO when I breeze by…????
I’m imagining they are taken with a scent that isn’t the ubiquitous fruity floral.
Cumin smells sweaty to me, but in a good, sexy way. Salome has been on my to-try list for a while!
Scent twin!
Salome is sooo beautiful! I’ve only recently acquired a sample, and am still not sure if it’s a true lemming for me (i.e. really really can’t live without a FB). Which is good, because “no buy” until summer at least.
Salome is beautiful, and so is Anubis. Anubis took me some getting used to and now I crave it. Speaking of which, my sample ran out…
A huge lemming: Goutal Sables. Golden and inspiring lke sunset on the beach. A generous member of this community sent me quite a few Goutal samples, and the truth is they are all lemmings.
Have a great weekend!
I’ve never tried Sables, but your description has now created a lemming! AG is a house that generally works for me as well.
I’m wearing Balle de Match from Nicholai, primarily because I wanted something fresh, but not floral. I have a decant of this and although I’ve never seen it mentioned on NST, I may need a full bottle, or at least a bigger decant. I’ve worn it twice, and I really like it.
The Nicolai’s were talked about quite a bit in my early years here – ’06, ’07 maybe. Not so much now. Too many newer niche lines!
It’s called Eau de Sport these days and is stil in production according to the Nicolaï website. It’s a great scent.
My first niche fragrance purchase, way back when! (And still disgusted that they renamed that one.) You smell great.
This is a line I would love to explore more. I have tried and loved her Vetiver and a small bottle is on my “To Buy” list. The fact that smaller sizes are offered is a huge plus for me. You smell great, I’m sure. Is that a scent that has a “cooling” effect? I may be sampling it soon, if so…
You’re right. This line doesn’t get as much buzz these days. It’s a shame; they make so many gorgeous scents. Le Temps d’une Fete(sadly discontinued) is my very favorite. I also like Rose Pivoine, Juste un Reve, and some of the various colognes.
Wearing my ultimate lemming – Bvlgari Black.
I read about it again and again, but assumed I would hate it (I don’t like vanilla scents, and I could not wrap my head around smelling like rubber). But I eventually ordered a tiny decant, just to see what the fuss was about. Wound up ordering a bottle the first day I wore it, and now it’s one of my favorites.
Happy Friday + weekend all!
Cousins, as I am also in Bulgari today.
You smell great! It really doesn’t sound like it could possibly smell good, does it?
Buy a back-up while it is still cheap!
Actually, it’s a good advice… I probably should do it: with the current price I’ll feel better if I never use it and it turns than if I want to wear it, and it costs arm and leg to buy.
I already did 🙂
I’m wearing Dzing, which was in the first set of samples I ever ordered from Aedes several years ago. I had to try it after reading the descriptions and reviews!
My decant is running low, so I’m hoping they’re still making it when I finally run out!
A lemming purchase for me too.
FYI, the Dzing! in the old packaging is showing up on discount sites now. Would be a good time to buy. I’ve had it for years now and it’s still one of my most beloved leathers – tempted to say THE most.
I’m probably going to split this!
SOTD is Eau des Merveilles. I blind bought a 15 ml bottle a few years after reading about it here and over at BdJ. It was love, and I quickly went through that bottle. I will never be without it and would say that it is one of my top 5. It works for me anytime of year, any occasion.
I have a feeling Infusion d’Iris falls into this same category, so I have to try that one!
*ago*
I love that one too. Portia just had it on Perfume Posse yesterday, did you read that? Actually I like the Elixir better but sometimes switch it off. And I got a bottle of the body wash too which is also very nice.
Oh yes, I did see that! Great post! I also have the Elixir and the Ambre, but the original is still my fav. I’m looking forward to the new Bleue.
You smell wonderful! Can’t wait to try EdM Bleue.
I love Infusion d’Iris so you might like it too. 🙂 I enjoy all the versions, but right now I prefer the edt. It’s worth it to try before you buy.
What say you? Body wash I hear? And a lemming is born….
My lemming is Alahine! I am trying to draw out my sample as long as possible but I really just want to spray with abandon. Definitely on my buy list, and I never would have found it but for NST.
Alahiiiine is gorgeous. If you can’t afford a bottle I found the solid on e bay for cheap.
SOTD: Iris Cendre (shiny stone for SheriG’s enabler’s pin)
Thank you! So that one worked for you? Glad to hear it! 🙂
Yes! I love the deep, rooty iris. So far Equistrius is still the favorite though but I’ve yet to try the Le Galion.
The Le Galion is also a bit rooty, but might be best in warmer weather. It doesn’t have the leathery facet that Equistrius has.
lol! We’re having plenty of “warmer weather” this winter! I’ve hardly worn any of my true winter scents.
The last lemming I actually purchased was probably Penhaligon’s Ostara, but I’m out of town and don’t have it with me.
I, um, went to the mall yesterday and wandered around Perfumania. Confessed to the SA that I “have a collection” and was just wondering if they had some scents I hadn’t smelled. They did – like the Ivanka Trump fragrance (I gave it a shot with an open mind, but Nope), and a couple of other department-store frags that also didn’t interest me. Then I saw their clearance rack, which had a bottle of Lolita Lempicka Eau de Minuit for $24. I like the original LL and thought about buying it for a while, just never did, and then I read some descriptions of the Minuit and a lemming was born. But those limited editions are hard to find (boo) and so very slightly different from one another, and from the original… confusing.
Long story short, I bought the Eau de Minuit and am wearing it today. It’s a bit less licorice, a bit more violet, a good bit more benzoin than the original LL. Reminds me somewhat of Caron Aimez-Moi, except AM had this chalky vanilla in its drydown that I never loved. I think I like this better.
What year is the Eau de Minuit from and what size, please?
My bottle is 100ml. Not sure what year, lemme pop over to Fragrantica and peruse LL bottles… okay, I’m back. I think it’s this one. Dark purpley-blue box, gold “stem” sprayer. http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Lolita-Lempicka/L-Eau-de-Minuit-Edition-2013-22485.html
I just looked online and they don’t seem to have it, but if you are able to call the store in Nashville (615) 678-0793, I think they had one more bottle on the shelf and I bet they’d ship it to you if you’re in the US.
Thanks, mals86. I have that one! I’m in Canada and I got it at Winners which is our version of TJ Maxx/Ross, for $40 C. which is about $31 U.S. so you got a really good deal! I bought 2 different Eaux de Minuit for $40 each because they were originally $70 which was a good price compared to the original price too. I liked the ivy too but I seem to like all the LL fragrances that come in an apple bottle.
I have a serious weakness for the LL apple bottles. I have so far resisted the Minuit, just because I already have a few, but that one sounds really nice – less licorice and more violet.
I have a “serious weakness” too. Eighteen of them! And then there’s the Nina Ricci Luna and Luna Blossom that I lemming for.
Uh-oh. Serious weaknesses indeed. 🙂
I am kind of missing the green note the original has (the ivy, I think it was?). That was part of what made it so interesting to me, this little green thread in the middle of the gourmandy stuff. It’s probably why I liked PdN Kiss Me Tender, too. But the Eau de Minuit is nice.
I like Eau de Minuit!
It’s very good. I’m enjoying.
Another lemming in Hiram Green. Trying Arbole Arbole for the first time and oh my goodness… I love it! Who knew a patch could be so green and uplifting? My only regret is that I did not apply more boldly. I’m afraid my conservative dabs will wear away before I can get back home to reapply. Live and learn.
I bought a bunch of lemming samples from Luckyscent that arrived this week along with a $20 coupon which is now burning a hole in my pocket. Can I resist? If not, how will I choose? At least I can cross LDDM off my list – I almost had to scrub it, much to my surprise. I’m really digging these Hiram Greens though. And there’s always Neela Vermeire…
Cozy comfort scent Day 3: Ambre 114 (actually, not a lemming purchase for me!)
Hi Oakland! How was the spruce candle? The packaging is the nicest of the lot!
It’s hard enough everyday to pick out something but this challenge made it even more difficult. Do you guys know how many perfumes that I have bought due to NST and Perfume Posse and half of them unsniffed. Today I went with Theorema.
Theorema always works!
I almost wore PHI today – it is a total lemming, and I never would have known about Tauer Perfumes without blogs like this. I really want a full bottle. However, I woke up craving Lonesome Rider, so I wore it even though I have a full bottle. It’s a Tauer kind of Friday!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Two beauties – you smell great!
Many of my lemmings have been the result of the Turin/Sanchez guide, but the one I went for after reading a review by Angela back in 2007 was Niki de Saint Phalle, and I was not disappointed. My SOTD is L’Artisan Vanille Absolument.
The Turin/Sanchez guide has been the source of many a lemming for me, too. How is the Vanille? I love and miss Vanilia but haven’t tried this one.
As we are having snow/ice/inclement weather day #10 (TEN!!!!), I decided I needed more jasmine, so I am in A La Nuit. It is not a lemming, but I don’t care. Warmer weather must certainly be on its way! (Although, I won’t get to enjoy it, since this school year will surely never end. sigh.)
You smell divine!!
Thank you!
You may send some of your winter weather here! We had a record number of days above freezing in Jan. (something like 2/3 of the month).
You can HAVE them!
It’s my first winter not working for someone else and I was really looking forward to being snowed in! But as our weatherman (hopefully) pointed out last night, two years ago our winter was warm like this and then within two weeks in mid-Feb. and early March we had two snows of over two feet each! I might be in the minority here hoping for this. 😉
I’m sure we had record warmth for January, but also record low-sunshine.
Great choice! I love the smell of jasmine (and/or tuberose as well) when it’s ice cold outside.
I bought this as a summer scent, but I’ve been very pleased with how versatile it’s proving to be!
You smell gorgeous! Too bad your current weather stinks.
Thank you! I really am tired of the ice and being stuck in the house.
Long time lurker…1st post…I love this blog.
My lemming: Tabac Tabou, sample is almost empty….
Greetings from the Low Lands!
Hello! Your perfume sounds beautiful. Do you get lots of tobacco from it or is it more of a hay scent? Will you get a FB? So many questions!
Hi Kanuka! To me it’s more of a hay scent, but i do get tabacco as well. It’s a great scent. A FB sure is on my wish list, but that list is like the universe…ever expanding 😉
Thanks for the information. I love hay notes
Welcome! 🙂
Well Hello!
We love it too. 🙂
I posted a reply somewhere below on another level…about how this scent makes me happy. But it was supposed to end up here. Rookie mistake i guess.
waving hello to you..
Nice to see you here! I don’t know your SOTD, but I bet you smell wonderful!
Welcome!
Hello, and you smell great!
Welcome! I was a long-time lurker myself.
So nice, all the welcome posts! I started my perfume and scent obsession february 2016. I wanted to start smelling and wearing perfume (again). I discovered all these lovely blogs and forums. Then I discovered Serge Lutens (and purchased a bottle)….the rest is history. I had to make room in my closet last summer voor my bottles and samples. And now, almost a year later, the urge to share my experiences and talk to other fume fans grew stronger and stronger. 🙂
Hi Jiji? I keep my samples and bottles in a closet too. I love opening the doors to see the sparkle and smell the “fumes.” 🙂
Recently my husband has been commenting about the “stench” emanating from the draw I keep all my ‘fume. He wants to know what I’m going to do about it since it’s in our bedroom .. oops.
I suggested we open the window. 🙂
Dear man is so patient with me since his sense of smells is pretty sensitive.
Hi Tiffanie, its like opening a treasure chest! 🙂
Meant to say “Hi Jiji!” not “?”.
And welcome!. 🙂
Welcome! I keep mine all well hidden in a drawer. My husband says it smells like the grpund floir of Macy’s in there, which he doesn’t mean as a compliment.
Welcome! Your avatar is adorable (and memorable!)
Hello from another former lurker! Glad to have company.
Hi JiJi, and Welcome!! We are about exactly the same age in fumehead addiction years!
Isn’t this a terrific place, so much to learn, and acceptance for the all thumbs typists like myself! I too think your avatar is adorable!
Pull up a cozy chair!
All thumbs typists… 🙂 haha
about my avatar/nickname
Jiji is the cat in the movie Kiki’s delivery service. One of the loveliest animated movies ever made!!
Welcome! I have Tabac Tabou 2015!
My good guess is that my sample is from the 2015 edition (ordered it just before 2016 edition arrived). I wonder if there will be a 2017 edition (the 2016 is still widely available).
Hello, Jiji! Nice to ‘meet’ you!
Welcome Jiji! (What a cute avatar!)
Hello Undina, I discovered your site (and adorable cat) a few weeks ago. Great posts, and already a fan of Rusty!
Aww… you’re so sweet. Will be glad to see you there too (and more pictures of Rusty are coming).
Happy Friday and Happy Superbowl Weekend to everyone! We are officially Superbowl Headquarters this year. So far, everyone is enjoying Houston! My SOTD is Deseo by Jennifer Lopez. Has nothing to do with the theme this week, just really enjoy the fragrance. It’s my cheap thrill fragrance. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.
Are you in Houston visiting? Best place to go try perfume here is Kuhl-Linscomb on Kirby at Alabama. Or maybe you live here and know it already? Some guy from NY was on the news last night saying “Houston is a dump” and everyone was p.o’d. big-time!
I live here in Houston; born and raised here. I live on the Northwest side of town, so I am hardly ever on Kirby. I haven’t heard of Kuhl-Linscomb. I honestly get my perfumes from the Galleria (Neiman Marcus). If not there, I get it from like LuckyScent or STC. I heard about it. He is supposed to be some “shock – jock” from NY. They claim he is a huge “donkey” and says things to get a rise out of folks. Because my side job is in Journalism, I thought about contacting him to comment (I have been known to be quite outspoken), but then I remembered something that our former FLOTUS said, “When they go low, we go high!” Houston is known for our class, southern hospitality, and fantastic diversity. The ONLY bad thing about Houston is our strange weather……something we have no control over. If he doesn’t like it here, go back to where he came from. Since we don’t live up to his standards, I so hope that the hotel he is staying in and the restaurants he has been eating at heard of his thoughts and are doing their darnest to “live up to his expectations”. The idiot should have waited until he left to make a comment. Smh, he’s so stupid!
Ha, someone should move all his stuff from his hotel to an actual dump and then have a taxi take him there to stay. …Or fill his room with tons of empty garbage bags and air freshener. What a jerk.
This made me laugh! I grew up in Texas and worked in Houston after college. I say the only thing bad about Houston is the weather from mid July to Sept. (Can I get a Amen?????)
Happy Friday!
Not a lemming, but I just may try Yuzu Man, a sample that a wonderful Splendorist sent me during the freebiemeet. I am generally not a fan of wearing men’s scents, but this one seems unisex enough to be interesting.
Robin, you smell wonderful! I did buy a bottle of Moon Bloom last year, and I’ve never regretted it.
I’m in Azemour, another blind split that worked out swimmingly, and a perfect fragrance for this time of year, when winter has gotten tiresome and I’m dreaming daily of warmer weather while enjoying the season’s citrus bounty.
Sounds perfect!
Azemour is one of my favorites – you smell delicious!
You smell fantastic!
Too many choices for today. It I am in Chanel No. 19 Poudre, which I sought out based on comments here. I love No. 19 and love this, as well.
me too.
I don’t wear 19Poudre as often as I should, but when I do, I get compliments from my significant other
99% of my lemmings and fb purchases have been as a result of the wonderful posts here on NST. A very generous soul sent me a sample of a Rose perfume that I’d been wanting to try and included a number of great extras. I fell in love and I’m wearing O.J. Taif today. It much sweeter and comforting than I expected. Sooooooo lovely though. Oh my- will wait for a sale :).
Yay for Ta’if! I need some of that myself.
Ta’if is one of my all-time favorites (and I caught it on 20% sale).
It’s been fun reading the names of all these scents. So many of my scents are lemming ones from being in this website. Infusion d’Iris, Cuir de Lancôme, Natori, Coromandel (decant), Ostara, Narciso… the list goes on and on.
The only scent I have with me that qualifies is Angel Muse. I got samples and already acquired the small bottle.
Narciso! So good.
My SOTD is Rahele and I also read about it and bought a sample due to reading about it on here. It is just SO seamlessly beautiful! I love the top mandarin notes and the florals are so well-blended. Though it lists many spices, I don’t find any of them standing out or intruding. It’s a really subtle blend. Now due to this project of the week, and thinking things over, I am being tempted by the FB on Luckyscent. Not cheap! This is a case where the bottle is so gorgeous I really want it for its own sake, and Luckyscent is so good about sending you samples of what you’re interested in. I’ve talked myself into pushing that little button. 😉
Whee!
Lemming Zoologist Civet. I haven’t smelled such a gorgeous tuberose since Moon Bloom. It’s quite different from that, a bouquet instead of a soliflore, so I’m sure at least a travel size is in my future. One of the great things about both Zoologist and Hiram Green is that their perfumes are offered in reasonable sizes.
I’m wearing Balsamo della Mecca today to keep me warm. It’s cold outside!
I’m lemming this one. The other Zoologist scent I tried wasn’t what I expected at all, though.
I TOTALLY agree Kathryn. I love love Civet. I have a small sample of Moon Bloom, that I haven’t gotten to yet but it is really fragrant in the tube!
Now thanks to you my fingers are itching to see what small sized options I have.
You have atleast one enabler pin in your future.
Late to the party! My SOTD is an old, much wanted lemming, since I don’t have any current ones. Miller Harris Rose en Noir.
I still don’t have a bottle of this one, but someday…. I’m wearing DSH Cimabue. Back when I was still a regular on the MUA boards, this one was a big favorite and it really is wonderful stuff.
That’s another one I bought because of raves, and it has been worth it.
I am participting in Lemming Friday and Month of Rosez )with Lucas and Undina).
SOTD = Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Velours
Were it not for Lucas’ review, Rose Velours would have fallrn off my radar. I call my lemmings as I see them. Check out Lucas’ review AND look for my comments!
https://chemistinthebottle.wordpress.com/2014/03/14/van-cleef-arpels-rose-velours/
It develops beautifully and has the signature VC&A Collection Extraordinaire drydown that is ambery resinous patchouli musky (last 2 not listed in notes).
Hajusuuri have you tried Profumum Rosae Mundi? Delicious and Seriously neglected imo.
I have probably tried it since I tend to max out smelling every single perfume of a brand the first time I encounter the line in a b&m store, in this case, Osswald NYC. I also likely have a decant somewhere! What about it do you like?
… and a new lemming is born!
I’ve only smelled a few from that collection but they’re all very well done.
Exactly!
Reading NST is hazardous to your wallet 🙂
🙂 I can send a baby lemming if you want. Just click on my name to get contact info.
Aw, now you’ve gone and done it. I’d already sort of been looking at that one. I think you’ve spawned another lemming. ????
Just don’t fall off the cliff! Plenty to share 🙂
Great read!! Thank U!!
That was almost 3 years ago!
I usually side-step samples and tend to blind-buy full bottles (cause if you’re a lemming you have to be prepared to jump off the cliff)…so thatccounts for Musc Nomade, Ostara (not right for me), Dame Dark Horse, Monsieur Li, Fresh Cream, Blackbird, Skive, etc etc etc BUT even I hesitated with Smell Bent Artist’s Studio and Florist Fridge and got samples of both. They are definitely worth trying. I love the originality and imagination that has gone into creating Artist’s Studio…where and why and how was the idea born? Also love the weird virtual reality of Florist Fridge…almost uncanny and slightly disturbing, like some weird clone experiment. Artist Studio is a total ‘wow’ perfume for originality but not an easy wear….more a successful concept than a perfume for me. And florist fridge just creeps me out a bit. But smells divine.
Yep, I’m a bottle-buyer too. If I’m going off the cliff, I can’t usually bothered waiting for a parachute.
LOL at this.
I often go straight to blind buys, and they have usually turned out fine. Sometimes after testing samples, the FB doesn’t work out for me somehow. So it’s not clear which approach is better for me.
I think blind buys are accompanied by such heightened anticipation that it’s hard to recognise a failure . I tend to like all my blind buys initially and it’s only after the buzz subsides that my critical brain kicks in…so it took a while before I decided Ostara and Dame New Musk weren’t right. The exception is Sweet by LL…I knew immediately it wasn’t for me
LOL about jumping off the cliff, and waterdragon’s comment about not waiting for a parachute! Poor impulse control is the story of my life. Not too dangerous with perfume though.
I don’t do blind buys anymore; I buy ginormous 50 or 100 mL samples.
????
Hee hee . Would love to see your full bottles ( we call them vats )
Why fall off the cliff when you can actually jump instead? ???? Blind buys are fun.
Hello, everyone. So. Here I am, thinking about lemmings in relation to my collection, and I have to confess that I have whole houses that are lemmings. See, without NST and other sources 5–6 years ago, I might not ever have realised the existence of (for instance) the Chanel Exclusifs, or the Hermessences, because I couldn’t buy them in A-NZ then. There is a sense, therefore, in which my entire collection is one huuuuuuuuge lemming with multiple lemming kittens clinging to it (I have NO idea what animal I am channelling with this image). A lot of the kittens, I discovered when I went looking for a SOTD, are perfumes I enjoy more in slightly cooler weather, and I ended up with one of my few summmer lemmings, Ninfeo Mio. I smell of cool, dim places and an unhurried pace. Gorgeous! And confession time: yesterday I slept for three hours after lunch (bliss!) and then pottered across the road to Chanel and bought two of the new lip crayons. Two! Does Donatella count lipsticks? No? Phew!
Oooh! what colours did you get?
Oh dear…Perthgirl, I’m such a predictably girly gir, but I do love colour. I got no. 8, a dark purple-red-maroon, and no.4, called Coral, which is a clear pinkish red on me, very summery. I like the texture and the fool-proof application. Perfect for travelling, I hope–I once had an ordinary lippy disintegrate in a suitcase. The mess was extreme and if I missed even a crumb of the damn thing, it would turn up later as a stain on a shirt or trousers. It was very irritating because it reduced my available clothes by about 30%. These are disintegration-proof, I think.
Glad you liked them!
I tried several but none did it for me so I ended up with the regular chanel lipstick.
I am so happy you found some that you enjoyed
Oh, and further confessions–with all of this talk of lemmings, I am at this moment on the Luckyscent website with a 30ml bottlecof Nocolai’s Odalisque in my cart and my hand hovering over HG’s Arbole Arbole….shall I? shan’t I?
I would say hold off and go try on those lipsticks and then re-visit the shopping cart online
If you go for Arbole arbole I will find it much harder to resist myself. Maybe you shouldn’t tell me what happens.
I have never been on Luckyscent. I thought I would bite the bullet for both of us by ordering Stash off the Australian warehouse chemist site yesterday ($25) but when it came to paying they said they couldn’t ship fragrance to NZ. It’s like some odd 200 mile exclusion zone …. All that perfume flying in international skies but once it gets near us it becomes a dangerous good. So frustrating. Will have to buy lipstick instead. Try Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks if you haven’t already. I have one called Bond Girl which is a rose brown.
Yep, the shipping costs are making me think twice, three, four times! US$40! Eek and ouch! I got all the way to the point of entering my cc number, then backed away. But, on the other hand, I’m not going to get to Scent Bar on this next trip, and I am madly lemming for AA….I haven’t deleted my order quite just exactly this minute, but I am pausing for reflection.
Can you have it shipped to the home of someone you’ll be visiting? Arbole is wonderful.
Waterdragon, I’d be happy to perfume-enable you by offering to accept packages at my home if you’d like to pick them up when you’re in Portland. You can reach me at my username plus aol dot com.
The high shipping cost means you have to buy more to spread out the shipping cost.
I’m wearing Arbole Arbole today and I can’t imagine anyone whose life wouldn’t be improved by buying it.
Oh? *heads off to check it out*
me too
Ninfeo sounds wonderful. I’ll have to try it once we get back to the heat of summer in Los Angeles.
Got to Sting’s concert and home last night with no problems, but I heard the freezing rain start as I was getting into bed. The weather here has been wild this winter.
I bought a bottle and a backup of the last NST lemming I had, and today I’m wearing it–Stash. It doesn’t last a long time on me but I love it while it does.
Wow! Sting in concert!
What a body of work he has to draw from! Hope you had a fabulous time ????
Stash was my most recent lemming as well.
After testing the sample over several months, I finally caved in to a bottle of COGNOSCENTI Tomato Leather, which I read about on Luca Turin’s blog. FYI, COGNOSCENTI offers a nice sample set, which includes their latest fragrance, Hay Incense.
I’m trying, but failing, to wrap my brain around a “tomato leather” perfume! Since I trust your nose, it must be a failure of imagination. 🙂
It doesn’t smell like tomato to me, just leather…
True, it’s not like you’d sniff it and think “tomatoes!” The note it contains is tomato leaf rather than ripe tomatoes. If you remember Demeter’s tomato/tomato leaf fragrances, that’s more like it. It just has a certain softness and freshness, particularly in the top notes.
I agree with cazaubon that it’s a leather perfume, but an unusual one.
It is weirdly addictive!
Thanks all! I think I get it now.
I got the Zoologist samples because it seemed like the line was getting a lot of love, and it made me curious. So I’m wearing Civet today because I could do with at least a travel spray of this. Actually, I could really go for a travel spray coffret of Civet, Nightingale, and Bat, and maybe Rhinoceros too.
So half the line that I liked well enough to want more than a sample isn’t bad. Beaver and Macaque were almosts.. mostly good but for one note that didn’t sit well on my skin (Macaque did smell really good on the seat belt in my car, incidentally).
En Passant.
I got a sample long time ago (because, of course, I kept hearing about it here), was ok with it but nothing more. As I am into flowers right now, I got back to it, and realized I want at least a 10ml bottle for my birthday!
Question: Where (on the Internet) shall I buy a Frederic Malle? Are there ever any sales on it?
I have never seen a sale on Frederic Malle, but you can buy them directly from FM website or on First in Fragrance.
http://www.fredericmalle.com/eu/perfumes/en-passant
http://www.ausliebezumduft.de/frederic-malle-en-passant-10-ml-travel-spray.html
Oh, look, it is significantly cheaper in Europe! Thanks, Glannys, for pointing that out! I wonder about the shipping cost to the US; or maybe I just need to wait to be in Europe to get it? (maybe then I could even get that 50ml bottle … )
+- for FiF. It is cheaper to begin with plus you get 19% discount because of Vat
Thanks, Clarissa! It seems that a 50ml bottle, including the US shipping cost, would definitely be a better deal if bought from Europe. Now I have to figure out whether my birthday is a significant enough occasion for such a present (as the plan was really only a 10ml …).
Of course it is! (Or 10ml of that, and a bottle of something else.)
You can usually find the single travel sprays on ebay.
I’ve also found discounted bottles on ebay, but it’s a matter of luck whether what you want comes up when you are ready to buy.
True! So far I haven’t seen a good deal on En Passant, but one needs to stay positive and patient, right?
Like others here, there are so many things in my collection that I tried after reading about here. NST was one if the first sites I started reading back in 2009 or so, so I can thank you all for a wonderful addiction that shows no sign of abating. Two particular things come to mind that I tried early in my explorations – Frederic Malle’s Iris Poudre and SL’s Bois de Violette. It took me years to get hold of FBs, but worth the effort and frustration.
Wearing something completely different for this morning’s housework – AG’s Le Chèvrefeuille, another one I think I read about here first.
Le Chèvrefeuille is pretty. One of the first samples I tried that made me say “ohhhhh, wow!”
Ah, you smell lovely.
I’m loving reading all the lemmings and will have to go back and finish. I have a couple of full bottle lemmings: no 22( though wendysue gifted me enough to tide me over for now), Auphorie Eternal Voyage- can’t find the smidge left of a sample, grrr.
I’m sure there are others but I went with HdP 1899(Ernest Hemingway) which is heavily hyped on some of the FB swap groups and of which a free manuf sample was given to me on a visit to Twisted Lily. Bright, creamy, spice with a nice herbal, juniper twist in the opening. Really loving it!
Mmmmm n.22 🙂
i love 22 as well, a bottle of that wouldn’t hurt
No. 22 is beautiful. And not being on Facebook, I’d missed the HdP 1899’hype, but now it’s going on the list.
I couldn’t find EITHER of my lemmings today – Tabac Tabou (maybe when Beautyhabit has their friends and family sale?) or Agent Provocateur. So I put on AP L’Agent, which I like but not as much as OG AP.
The original AP is on my wishlist still. On a no-buy for little longer.
Hi there! Yes isn it great?! TT makes me smile. Next to the hay and tobacco, the narcissus and a bit of honey. But it never gets too sweet or cloying. I get this horsey smell as well…but thats a good thing imho 🙂
Oops that was supposed to be a reply to floragal. Yes you can tell i am new here 🙂 LOL
And we like you already!
uh, oh I forgot about the project. SOTD is Nuit Noir.
Every scent I love is one I heard of from NST. I live in a perfume desert, so I would have never even heard of my now favorites! So thank you all for that.
I didn’t really finish my thoughts, which is par for the course today – Alahine is something I kept hearing about, and finally tried it last year and I think I need a bottle, not just a decant.
Not to enable or anything, but you need a bottle of Alahine. 🙂
(I live in a perfume desert too. The best we can do around my neck of the woods is a Macy’s 50 miles away.)
Bois des Iles!!
Gonna have to pay off a few bills before I get to indulge in a fb of this lil lady, but my time will come!
Happy Friday all!!!
That’s a really good one.
Definitely a lemming of mine, but not one that worked out. Has anyone tried the edp? I could barely smell the edt.
Kafka is responsible for a lot of my lemmings. Today I am wearing Reve Narcotique by very talented Sultan Pasha.
Yup same here. Kafka’s reviews made me buy the sample set that was on offer almost a year ago. This week Incense royale and Tabac Grande were on rotation. Fabulous stuff!
Ha! Mine too. My sample set is probably all dried up by now!
SOTD: LPRN Couture
I rarely buy a fragrance because having worked for a major perfume house for over 20 years, I have enough for the rest of my life. Back in the very early part of this century, a demo gave me a sample of Adrienne Vittadini Venezia. I ended up eventually buying a bottle which I loved till the last drop! I once worked nearby a demo who was flogging CSP. He gave me a sample and I did buy a bottle of Aqua Motu. No regrets. It’s great!
Aqua Motu is a sentimental favorite of mine 🙂
Today’s SOTD is a lemming inspired by NST’s own Kevin.
His review of Annick Goutal’s Les Orientalistes rather intrigued me, and I picked up a sample set of all 4. Ambre Fetiche was the first one that made it onto the full bottle list, and purchased in short order. It also fits neatly into the comfort scent group, which I really seem to want to wear right now. Maybe it’s the February blahs?
Where did you get the sample set? *nascent lemming born*
Pretty sure I picked up my samples from TPC. Looks like they still have them, too. 😉
Amber Fetiche is lovely. I got a sample for a family member after reading Victoria’s review at BdJ and have recently followed it up with a surprise FB for Valentine’s Day.
Wearing Philosykos today, which I remember reading and hearing a lot about probably 8 – 10 years ago. I don’t get any of the green fig leaves or sun-warmed soil others mention when they talk about it, which is disappointing, but I still really like it as an easy to wear every day scent. It’s a jammy fig that wears close to the body for me. I will likely go fb on this one.
Beautiful scent.
I think it’s still mentioned fairly often, although not as often as Infusion d’Iris.
Today I’m wearing perfume that can be probably classified as anti-lemming: I acquired a sample (well, a mini bottle), and I liked perfume itself but I will not be getting a full bottle of it because of what I read about it. It is a beautiful rose perfume, so I decided to make an exception and wear it today both for this community project and the Month of Roses project.
Perfume I’m talking about is La Fille de Berlin (if anyone is curious why I won’t be wearing/buying it, the post, in which I explain that and link to reviews that anti-inspired me, is easy to find on my blog by the perfume name).
I happen to own a bottle of that one, however I don’t reach for that often. Or sometimes ever!
Hmm. Very curious. Will be over shortly to read!
My scent for Lemming Friday is MFK Grand Soir, which I got a sample of after seeing a number of mentions on NST. It really is nice. It’s not 100% my style, though, so I won’t buy a FB. But if one fell in my lap, I’d gladly take it! ????
Happy Friday, NST!
I feel exactly the same way about Grand Soir. Love the dry down in the sample I tried, but I wouldn’t spring for a full bottle.
Before I tumbled into the rabbit hole, I thought of Chanel as a fashion house, not a perfume house – and one with an aesthetic so at odds with mine I never considered wearing any of their perfumes (except the classics I grew up with – 5, Cristalle, Coco.) I just didn’t think they would fit me.
After months of reading daily SOTD posts with multiple people wearing the Exclusifs and others heaping praise, I finally broke down and bought some samples. Then I bought some minis. Then 2 bottles.
Today I’m wearing Beige, a bottle of which I’ve considered many, many times. It’s one that I don’t wear that often but really is one of my favorite perfumes. I’d love to be able to spray it lavishly. Some day I’ll have that bottle! (I’m wearing the edt – haven’t tried the edp yet but have heard good things about it. Fingers crossed!)
I bought a handful of Chanel samples a few years ago and used up the Eau de Cologne first, then finished off Beige. It really is pretty.
I forgot about the theme today and wore Byredo M/M Ink. But the two lemmings on my list are JM Myrrh & Tonka and Olfactive Studio Close Up. I haven’t smelled the Close Up yet so that is just a maybe, but it sounds promising. I also want to add FM Outrageous to my collection, but I’ve already smelled it. Will have to wait until my no- buy February ends.
OMG!!! I inadvertently ended January without a single FB purchase! I bought the Zoologist Discovery Set but I don’t count buying samples as BUYING. I was going to stop by Saks to sniff the JM but ended uo leaving the office later than planned.
OMG indeed! I thought I felt a disturbance in the force. 😉 Hope you enjoy your Saks sniffa.
Should have said enjoy your Saks sniffa soon!
Really, no sniffing…it’s been a crazy month! Watch out world – the longer I hold out, the more it will take to balance the universe!
Ironically I also bought no FBs in January, just samples. Brace for impact in March!
If I can wait that long! Buying bottles for splits doesn’t count, right?
Nope!
The perfume industry is probably in a panic. This might be a good time to buy stock. ????
M/M Ink is a brave one. That is my all time biggest perfume fail . I couldn’t get it at all.
I’m wearing CB I Hate Perfume At the Beach 1966. I don’t know what took me so long to try this – I have been trying to find the perfect “beachy” smell for years, but usually I go for more tropical scents. This is actually what I have been looking for the whole time. It’s coppertone, wet sand, driftwood, and saltwater without any nauseating aquatics or artificial coconut. Definitely need a bottle!
I recall Bobbi Brown Beach giving off similar vibes.
SOTD is Profumum Roma “Arso”. Read about it here, got a sample, loved it; now wearing it from a decant that is nearly gone. Notes are incense, leather, resin, virginia cedar and pine
The big question, of course, is this: when it is gone, can I carry on as before, or will I find there’s an Arso-shaped hole in my life?
Arso-shaped hole… no comment. 😉
You said it, not me 😉
Off-color implications and inferences aside, that strikes me as a really good measure of whether one “needs” a particular perfume.
I loooovee Arso. It was love at first sniff for me!
That name tough…ah well, at least it’s very short and spelling is easy 😉
(unlike “Hermann à mes côtés me paraissait une ombre”, yes I copied and pasted that one!!!)
Hey there, NST. It was a treat to read about the lemmings today. Sometimes I imagine an industry intern somewhere reading the SotD comments, deciphering the lingo, looking for patterns, making projections and guesses about the future, then throwing up their hands and heading for the door.
I enjoyed Theorema again today after trying it for the first time a few weeks ago. Gotta say the wee mini bottle is adorbs.
You smell great! I first tried theorema from a mini I got through a swap here…
If only! I picture those industry interns rounding up teenagers at the mall for focus groups, and then throwing up their hands.
And recommending yet another flanker.
Working thru more samples. SOTD=Julliette had a Gun Lady Vengence which reminds me of Magie Noir for some reason. Does anyone know what it is that makes me think of one when I smell the other? My list of lemmings is long, No 22 and En Passant are probably at the top…
Late to say: wearing quatriemme from coolife, from a sample I got after hearing about it here. It’s delightful, but I don’t know if I’m swayed yet.
I managed to miss the review of this one, so you get the (tumbled stone? piece of cliff? herring?) for this particular lemming.
I went with Hiram Green Shangri La. I read glowing reviews of it, saw it mentioned here repeatedly as a SOTD, got a good-sized sample in a swap with Kelly, and while a FB is probably not in my future, a travel spray may well be. I’d tried Aperçu, Mitsouko (could barely smell the edt, and the edp threatened to scratch my eyes out), and one or two other old-school chypres, and thought that perhaps my tastes were just not sophisticated enough to appreciate the genre. Shangri La, though, is delightful. I can smell the peach and the spices and the flowers (can’t pick them out individually, though), and the moss running underneath (instead of blanketing) everything, all combining into something greater than the sum of its parts. Many lemmings have not worked out for me, but this one I loved, and it kept me from giving up on chypres completely. Thank you to everyone who mentioned it! (I’d venture some names, but I suspect I’d get them wrong.)
The other perfume that came to mind, one that is currently at the top of my FB list, is Amour de Cacao. Someone here, I think maybe Poodle, used to talk about it, which piqued my curiosity. (Cue Poodle, popping in to say she’s never worn AdC in her life.) I got a sample from Elisa P in last year’s Freebiemeet, then 5ml from StC, which is nearly gone. It’s noticeably chocolatey, but not too sweet or heavy. It’s perfume-y, in a good way, and easy to wear.
Now, off to tame the chaos that is my kitchen, and then back to read the rest of the comments. Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
The mama lemming for my CSP Cacao was Deva!
That is entirely plausible in my case as well. Thank you, Deva, and/or Poodle, or possibly someone else with a dog Gravatar!
