The damage so far: fourth quarter 2016 buying poll

Posted by Robin on 3 January 2017 252 Comments

Donatella Versace and her perfume cabinets

2016 is over, at last! Do start 2017 with a clean slate and a clean conscience — Donatella Versace, Our Lady of Perfume Profligacy,1 wants to know what you bought in the 4th quarter (October, November and December) of 2016.

My purchases...

Not a thing, again. I did all my spending in the first half of the year, and my grand total was $273.

As always, report your purchases in the comments if you dare! And as always, we don't include samples or gifts, and you can count miniatures, decants and bottle-splits howsoever you like (I usually count them as half bottles). Samples don't generally count at all, even though some of us spend considerable sums obtaining them.

1. Why does Donatella host (against her will, mind you) the damage polls? There is no real reason other than the picture of her perfume collection, which shows that she indulges regularly at the perfume counter. The image, by the way, is originally from Allure magazine and appears here courtesy of Blogdorf Goodman.

A lot of people seem to be getting Dzongkha this quarter! I love it. According to Basenotes’ SODT, calculator, it’s my most-worn scent of all time!

I was quite good…not one bottle. In fact, as I visually inventoried my very own collection this morning I realized that I have “technically” not bought one bottle for myself in the entire year (I am not counting the Assam of India as I bought that one with an AMEX gift card that I got for my bday and I am not counting the Posh Peasant decants that the USPS lost and never delivered and I am not counting all the full bottles I bought for family members who allow me to steal some from whenever I want and I am not counting one or two Pacifica bottles that I bought at the local health food store which went from my dresser to the dresser of a family member in the blink of an eye before I could even spray them!) Not counting….and putting myself at zero for the year (is that cheating???)

My only purchase this quarter: a bottle of Marni Spice, with a big thank-you to KPainter for very kindly sending me samples.

I did buy bottles of Andy Tauer’s Rose Delight and Amber Flush body oils, but they were Christmas presents for family members (who were delighted!).

I bought a rollerball of Stash, and then the set with the edp and the oil. At Fumerie’s Profumum Roma meetup with the perfumer, I bought an 18ml bottle of Acqua Viva, and I bought a tiny dab of vintage Box of Eels. I’m calling it three bottles, the BdI is hardly more than a sample. For the year I spent more than last year, but that was due to my trip to Europe. I sold a number of neglected fragrances so moneywise I’m probably even with 2015.

I’m a bit uncomfortable with the number of things I acquired last quarter (between gifts, swaps, and purchases), but the good news is that all but one worked out beautifully. I guess my goal for Q1 2017 is a larger perfume storage cabinet!

    Bottles:
    -Jacques Zolty Van-Ile
    -Tauer Amber Flush
    -MAC Velvet Teddy
-L’Artisan Ambre Extreme (which was a huge fail, but at least the price was right)

    Travel Sprays/Decants:
    -Marni
    -Bvlgari Omnia

    Goodness, I hope I didn’t forget anything!

I liked Velvet Teddy and [mostly liked] My Heroine. Creme d’Nude was too sweet for me, and the others just weren’t my taste. I’m always in the market for a honey scent, though, so Velvet Teddy was a pretty obvious choice. It’s not incredibly demanding or complicated, but it’s a lot of honey without being over-the-top sweet.

An $18 Omnia split, and that’s IT. (Disposable income has been diverted elsewhere, like the $80 arm-knit-your-own-cat-bed kit I just ordered. I harbor no illusions that the cat will actually sleep in it, but the arm-knitting itself looks very meditative.) But there should be plenty to report the next time Donatella comes around- I suspect this year is going to take a LOT of fragrant armor.

I starting buying my armor after thanksgiving after all the stores had either sales or GWP’s. Hermes set with Neroli Dore with my sephora 20% off as a gift to my son for Christmas. I went crazy with retail therapy. Plus we moved to a new town so I needed to explore the shops.

    3 full bottles.

Beyond Love, refill as I am way to cheap to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a fancy bottle.
    Nuit Etoilée EDP on ebay.
Bois d’Encens, just a few days before New Year. It had been on my wishlist for a very long time, and I finally made up my mind to get a bottle.

It could have been a lot worse.

O Donatella, I feel your blessings fall upon me like warmth from the sun. I am a seeker on your true path of enlightenment.

And I have sought fruitfully this past quarter.

First, of course, we can ignore all mini’s, as always. So we’ll ignore those 20ml Guerlains I bought, along with travel sizes of Zoologist Beaver and Macaque; several Demeters, several BPALs, a Mirus, a couple of House of Matriarchs, E&J Nirvana Bourbon rollerball, and a few small (just a few; certainly less than a dozen) decants and swaps here and there.

Speaking of Zoologist, I have meditated on the subject of purchases direct from an independent perfumer, and I have decided that these should count more as ‘patroness of the arts’. So I am doubly off the hook for those Zoologist purchases, as well as Parfumerie Generale Bois Naufrage, and SP Parfums Sunmilkflowers.

Birthday-gift-to-self clearly doesn’t count. (Neela Vermeire Mohur Extrait. One must buy something extravagant for one’s birthday, after all.)

Perfumes bought with gift cards don’t count. (CBIHP Black March — which was also a mini — AND purchased direct-from-perfumer. Also, Berdoues Assam of India.)

Christmas-gift-to-self can’t possibly count, either. (Neela Vermeire Pichola)

    So, down to brass tacks.

    1. Hiram Green Dilettante
    2. Thierry Mugler Woodissime
    3. Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee
    4. Olfactive Studio Panorama
    5. Gabriella Chieffo Maisia
    6. Perris Monte Carlo Ylang-Ylang Nosy Be
    7. Auphorie Regal Secret
    8. Dasein Winter
    9. Baruti Indigo

There might possibly have been a few more, but my fingers are tired of typing, so obviously the list is complete. Nine(ish)! Not so bad, eh?

Oh! Almost forgot! Sold 4 bottles this quarter. Which brings me down to 5. I can’t understand why I’m having a hard time finding somewhere to put them.

My first confession! While I did buy a lot the last quarter, I also discovered three new favorites (Passage d’Enfer, L’Ombre dans L’Eau, and Bulgari Black) so . . . all is forgiven?
    Anyway:

    Decant order #1
CdG Citrico, Penhaligon’s Ostara, D.S. & Durga’s El Cosmico, L’A’s Voleur de Roses & Passage d’Enfer, and Bulgari Black

    – bottle of Aramis New West impulse bought from amazon because I really wanted to try it and there was no way to sample

    – bottle of Bulgari Black and small coffret + shower gel of Terre d”hermes eau tres fraiche from a discounter

    Decant order #2
Aromatics Elixir, Calyx, Avignon, Heeley Sel Marin, and Clinique Wrappings. Calyx and Aromatics Elixir were high school favs of mine that I wanted to revisit, but somehow more decants crept onto this order.

Diptyque Discovery set – L’Ombre dans L’Eau, Oud Palao, Tam Dao, Philosykos, and Do Son (this is a lovely set, by the way)

This is where I should have stopped! But I read that Bulgari Black was being discontinued (not sure if this is actually true) and panic-bought a bottle from a discounter, plus, um, a set of Estee Lauder minis and a bottle of Narcisco Rodriguez For Her.

Now I was really ready to stop! Except! A bottle of Van Cleef & Arpels Muguet Blanc appeared on eBay. I was winning for days, and someone snaked it out from under me at the last minute. So I went on a mini-eBay buying frenzy and got a Van Cleef & Arpels sample set (only $6 – including Muguet Blanc), a 10ml mini spray of L’Ombre dans L’Eau (only $10) and a decant of Misia.

Then I decided no more perfume until Mother’s Day. Then I succumbed to the Surrender to Chance 15% off sale on Dec 31 and bought decants of Lipstick Rose, La Fille de Berlin, and Muguet Porcelaine.

    Whew.

It’s quite cheap on amazon – I think I paid $25ish. I don’t know how it used to smell, but it’s very nice (a little bit fruity, a little bit sage-y, a little bit salty) for about 60 minutes, then it shifts to a boring cedar drydown. I wear it when I work out, then shower it off to skip the boring part.

I went over budget for the year by $11 and change, but this quarter I bought 15ml of Mitsouko edp at STC’s Guerlain sale, and 15ml of Dzongkha at a sale by TPC, as well as 3 of Dame’s Man fragrances in travel sizes – New Musk Man, Leather Man, and Citrus Man. They were on sale also, so I figure I did OK.

2016 ended with a bit of fragrant indulgence. I regret nothing.

–Hiris 100 ml, to replace my empty sample vial
–Cologne du 68 100 ml, was discontinued so I replaced my empty decant

–Infusion d’Iris edp 30 ml – to compare to the edt
–Infusion d’Iris edt 50 ml – to compare to the edp
I tested these for science. You’re welcome. I much prefer the edt to the current edp, while Infusion d’Iris Absolue rules them all.

    Perfumath free:
    –Dzongkha 100 ml
    –L’ambre des Merveilles 15 ml
–Barbara Bui Le Parfum 30 ml
–Zum Mist Frankincense & Myrrh 4 oz

I had a birthday last quarter, and my age now includes the number 5. A symbolic bottle of Chanel No. 5 extrait found its way to me along with a few other fragrant gifts.

I’ve learned I really prefer 50 ml and smaller bottles of fragrance. Easier to hold and spritz.

I’ll always think of Prada IdI edt as “Prada Milano Toilet” which is what the Sephora SA wrote on the sample baggie????

I went slightly insane… and bought 14 bottles (which is much more than the whole of the last and previous years), the only excuse I have they all were from eBay, so some less than half priced.
I get into stages when everything smells nice and my lists to-buy are getting too long and I get into this hamster mode of life, where I just need them all in my possession.
    so here goes:
    Tauer, PHI:URDK;
Guerlain, Vol de Nuit Evasion (that’s what started all this, so I blame my insanity on perfume:)
    Guelain, Terracota;
    Guelain, L’Heure Bleue (vintage extract);
    Guelain, Mitsouko (edt, Vintage)
    SL, Tubereuse Criminelle;
Chanel, Cuir de Russie (vintage, extract)
    Chanel, Misia;
Coty, Chypre (ext from 70 – the only one I am not at all happy with)
    Dior, Diorama (vintage, extract);
    Dior, Diorama (vintage, edt [what can I say they seem to be looking for this year:);
Balenciaga, Le Dix (vintage, small flacon)
    Houbigant Quelques Fleurs (vintage edt.)
Le Galion, Tubereuse (vintage extract, maybe less than 4mls in the bottle, but the way it smells makes it almost my favourite of the whole lot… though, I would be able to discriminate)/..

Wow… i am shocked myself to be honest… good think to lay it out like that.. as a mode of resistance to spending money…anyway… all judgement is very welcome :)

Thank you. The postage restrictions and the division of eBay into several ebays so to speak (i mean the US market, then UK one, and there is also Europian) help sometimes, or at least make things interesting, but because of that some prices do not go up as much… I am in London, and what is listed in UK stays in UK these days… but on the other hand, it takes an extra effort to persuade sellers from the US to agree to send things over here…:)

I really like the rerelease of Le Galion Tubereuse, but I don’t kid myself that it’s anything like the original. So what’s wrong with your Coty Chypre?

I have heard only good things about new/old line of Le Galion but have not put too much attention to it, now I will definitely go and test it against the vintage one.
The problem with Coty Chypre is that it is not that one, but the other one :), I mean, the usual drama, in 70ies they have completely changed the formula (I am not sure about the rest of coty perfumes, but I suspect now it is the same for all of them)… so when I bought it I thought I am buying Mitsouko’s grandmother, but with more make up…. and it was not it at all, it is something completely different and very 70ies at that.. flowery.. well… I did not enjoy it, but I know people like it for what it is.. I got confused and I should have known better :)

I like Oud Palao a lot….. which is kind of weird because Diptyque and I don’t really get along very well.

L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Intense 75ml (my SOTD) ~ $30
    Queen 100ml ~ $9

I also bought a 10ml of Bvlgari Omnia Paraiba, which was $25. I don’t think I actually bought that this quarter. It may have been last, but I don’t remember if I posted it for last quarter and can’t be bothered to find the post and check.

I don’t really get much banana from the Patou. It’s mostly ylang to me, though I guess ylang does have a bit of a banana-ish thing about it. I bought it blind and was afraid it would be really sweet and fruity, but I don’t find it so. Even the pear note that I don’t usually like works here. It cuts the richness of the ylang and adds a bit of green.

OK, I’m a grown up. I can face my frailties… however, I am adopting the philosophy I learned here a couple of days ago that anything bought on holiday is a double no count.

So. In Melbourne in November, so on holiday:
    15 mls Ambre Narguile
    15 mls Iris Ukiyoe
10 ml sprays of Dries van Noten, en Passant and Carnal Flower, plus the travel spray container thingy
    At home
Yes, That Bottle: Galop, 100 mls
In the category of, “Dd I really do that? Goodness me!”: Michael Kors White Liminous Gold 50 mls and (now I really can’t quite credit this!) Michael Kors Midnight Shimmer
And…..I kept a bit quiet about this at the time….75 mls of No. 22 because, ummm, because…because I just did, Donatella, OK?

I think that’s all. Mind you, that’s plenty, really.

Well, that No 22 can be considered an ‘investment piece’ surely? :) Like they say in the fashion magazines about trench coats and classic jeans. But seriously No 22 is the sort of fragrance you can wear for YEARS without tiring of it. I have some large decants to get through, but after that will seriously consider a 75 ml bottle.

A fairly extravagant quarter for me in one sense, but quite restrained with a bit of Donatella’s indulgence. I bought myself one FB – squeaked in on New Year’s Eve with 50ml of Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir, but I had some vouchers, so I can consider it half price.

Another two FBs were gifts from my mother, but I feel that I must be honest to Donatella about paying for half of them. My mother is generous, but I wasn’t going to ask her for the full cost (plus postage from Luckyscent) of Trayee and Thameen’s The Hope. I also would rather she didn’t know the full extent of her daughter’s perfume insanity :)

And a 100ml bottle of Tobacco Vanille was a gift. I’m not confessing this as something Donatella needs to know about, rather it’s a recognition of a fabulous present from my beloved!

I have great admiration for everyone who bought nothing or almost nothing. I also love to see the choices on more extensive lists and figure there will be company at the alter of Donatella.

My recovery from back surgery was not as rapid as I had hoped, I was not sleeping much, and was home to follow up on every sale and promotion, use all the gift cards, etc. Really, the perfumes were like prescriptions, and although not in my pharmacy plan, were healing. By perfume logic, they were necessities.

I’ve been good in October and November. Well, not without a sin – I’ve bought Maria Candida Gentile’s Barry Lyndon, but only a travel size and I’ve been wanting to buy it for a couple of years already.

Then December came. I took a short trip to Italy and was in Florence on my birthday – the rest you can guess…

    – Santa Maria Novella – a bottle of Iris cologne, also an Iris body powder
    – i Profumi di Firenze – mini bottle of Tulipano Nero edp, Muschio Nero and Muschio e Ambra (love, love, love!) in ‘concentrated fragrance’
    – Farmacia SS. Annunziata – 30 ml bottle of Takis (unexpected love)
    – Erbario Toscano – Violetta Nobile edp, mini bottle (should have bought a full size!)
    – a local pharmacy called Antica Farmacia del Cinghiale – Acqua profumata della Farmacia (a spicy ambery cologne-y thing)
    – a home fragrance shop called Teatro – Pura Ambra home & linen fragrance spray

I took a handful of samples to Italy with me, and a vial of Heely’s Iris de Nuit has leaked inside my cosmetics bag. Now this scent for me is strongly associated with this trip. Of course, when I came back I *had* to order a bottle. Bought with a birthday coupon, so also counts as a birthday purchase. I’ll try to be good in 2017. On the other hand, I haven’t bought myself a Christmas present yet…

I am trying very hard to not buy anything these days, and consequently I bought nothing in the last quarter, if you don’t count a couple of li’l bottles of essential oils and some rosewater and orange-flower water to feed my diffuser (they definitely don’t count). One of my New Year’s resolutions is to buy as little as possible in 2017 and to enjoy the things I already have: it would take me the entire year just to clear out my backlog of samples, to be honest.

Love Patsy and Edina. Anything they do is ok.

Feel guilty but gave away more than I bought for myself: a 100 ml bottle of vintage Calandre to my sister for Christmas; two rollerballs, both Atelier, to nieces; a big bottle of Rose Jam shower gel, to a niece.

I bought a bottle of Del Rae Amoureuse for myself but am hiding it so hubby can give it to me for my birthday later this month. That shouldn’t count for much beyond a spouse enabler pin, if there is such a thing. Still wavering on a few full bottles, among them Galop, all unsniffed. Contemplating trading/selling Lyric which just isn’t working, and striving for cosmic balance.

For this 4th quarter, I truly only bought one FB of perfume. The rest were decants, perfumed body oils, body mists, and body butters. My purchases were as follows:
    – FB of “Figue” by Molinard (75 ml for $47.00)
    – decant of “Intense Café” by Montale (8 ml for $27.00)
    – decant of “Rose Elixir” by Montale (8 ml for $27.00)
    – decant of “Pear & Olive” by Slumberhouse (8 ml for $84.00)
    – decant of “Jardin Noir Café Rose” by Tom Ford and “Orchid Soleil” by Tom Ford ( both 5 ml for $44.00)
    – “Rose Delight” body oil by Andy Tauer ($25.00)

Everything else was body mists and body butters that I don’t consider perfume purchases. I counted the “Rose Delight” body oil because it can stand alone without anything else – AMAZING STUFF! :)

Honestly, I think this is the best quarter (money wise) that I have ever had. I was actually content with purchasing decants over FB’s. This could be the start of something new for me! We’ll see.

For moment, I thought I had to confess the whole year all at once and am quite relieved to realize it’s just this past quarter!!

I can only deal with the biggies; I feel Iike I haven’t really been buying samples or decants. Somehow, they keep appearing but I don’t recall buying them..!

Chanel – 31 Rue Cambon…wait, this was purchased last quarter but received this quarter!!!
    Chanel – No. 19 Poudre
    Comme des Garçons – Grace
    Mugler – Chyprissime
Byredo – Gypsy Water travel spray trio
    Le Galion – Snob
    MuiMui – mini
MFK Travel Spray set for Women

I challenged Enabler Husband to report his but I think he is in denial.

I’ve certainly sinned this past quarter, but the exact extent has become (conveniently) hazy. Let’s see — a small bottle of Dune via a Sephora discount, a decant of Sa Majeste la Rose, a vintage Champagne parfum mini, and I believe that was all, but I also feel like I’m forgetting something…

Somehow… nary a one, again, as in Q2. So, I think I managed three bottles for the year, with one on deep discount. Up until 2013, it seemed hard to cut down to one a month and now suddenly I’m below one a quarter and don’t feel deprived. My spending on books has gotten out of hand again, though. Balance in life is a tricky thing ;)

I purchased 3 (THREE!) this quarter, and I blame it on 1) a good deal on something I was gonna buy anyway some time, 2) a rare opportunity, and 3 (THREE!), I was on vacation. But now, back to the more-or-less purfume moratorium.
    1. Ambrosine (25% off!)
    2. Tauer Hyacinth and a Mechanic (special, west-coast limited release)
    3. Lys 41 (really pretty, buttery tuberose!)

Total for the year, 4 bottles, I think?

It’s a fun experience and a pretty good personal scent. It starts with a really literal “mechanic” note–grease and solvents–but then the hyacinth comes in to be cheerful and oddly pretty. As it dries down, it becomes a lovely, warm, spicy thing with hints of the original mechanic and hyacinth, but much less odd (which is what makes it wearable, imo).

    Alaia
Coco Noir body cream (haven’t opened this yet…I think Lovestosmellgood recommended this :) )
Aromatics Black Cherry (also haven’t broken into this one yet…a complete unsniffed blind buy impulse purchase)

And one of the last days of December I bought Tauer’s 2 oils and 2 new soaps so those haven’t arrived yet…everyone keeps talking about how lovely the oils are…

Bleah, way too many decants this quarter. I bought a bottle of Egoiste for my 16-yo’s Christmas, but he hasn’t worn it yet, so I won’t count that one. I also won’t count the Mary Kay thingy my husband won at a silent auction benefiting the local Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs (it’s not bad, but it’s a light peony floral and I feel like I have Been There and Done That).

    I bought minis/decants of:
DSH Giverny in Bloom, vintage Amazone, Le Galion La Rose, CDG Stephen Jones, Guerlain Charnel Elixir Floral Romantique, TF Tuscan Leather, and Chanel 1932 edp. $145. OW. Probably not good value, but they were all things I really wanted in small quantities.

I still need to divest some perfumes I’m not wearing.

Donatella, you will surely be disappointed in me, for I have only one purchase to confess:
    • BPAL Nasty Woman

That said, I did place an order with one of the discounters for La Fille de Berlin, but the site then told me it wasn’t in stock after all. And they fall outside the confession rules, but for Christmas I received:
    • N°5 L’Eau
    • Bvlgari Black

Not as bad (or good, depending on how you view it) as I thought!
    1) Barbara Bui 30ml
    2)Geisha Vanilla Hinoki rollerball oil
    3)Geisha Noire oil
4)Lalique le Parfum 50ml gift set
    5) L’Artisan Amour Nocturne 10ml decant
    6) Tauer Au Coeur du Desert 10ml decant
    7)Teint de Neige decant
7)Sonia Rykiel for Women 7.5 ml mini (to compare to Barbara Bui, and they are very similar)
    8)Boucheron Jaïpur mini
    9)Poison Esprit de parfum mini

I also sold 3 bottles of perfume so I’ll deduct 1.5 bottles from the above.

I was wondering what you guys meant by Donatella but now I get it and I love every second of it! She’s got a collection!

I go in phases with buying bottles – I really don’t have that many, but I have a ton of samples. These past few months though I did some travel, and then was feeling like I didn’t get enough fragrance for xmas so I treated myself – probably the better way to do it, anyway :)

    Here’s what I got!

    – Amouage Ubar, in Oman, at their store in Muscat! I also visited the factory. It was amazing. I admit, I went to Oman because of Amouage and there happened to be direct flights from the city in India I was in for work :) Ubar was my first Amouage love, so I thought it only fitting. I’m keeping my eye out for Honour and Memoir on sale this year :)
    – SL Jeux de Peau from the SL boutique in Paris. I love this one for the winter and fall, and had used up my decant! This was on the same work trip – I did a stopover in Paris on the way to Berlin :)
    – ELdO Archives 69 – I had only the briefest visit to ELdO on my last trip to Europe, so this was one of my main smelly stops! My mom (who I’ve gotten into perfume too) also got me their little sample set from Sephora for xmas.
    – GOOP’s Edition 01 Winter – I love Gwynnie, and her perfume is really amazing. It goes on resiny and sort of “manly”, but develops into a comforting, smooth, delicious strong scent. I will probably buy whatever she wants to sell me unsniffed!
    – L’Artisan Dzing! and Rappelle Toi – they were on super discount!
    – ELdO Like This, after sniffing it more in the sample pack. It was also a good deal :)
    – Neela Bombay Bling! as a last minute…Olfactif had 20% off, and I had some Paypal $!! I used up my decant and missed it immediately.

Way more than I’ve bought in years past, but brings me so much pleasure!

I have bought 3 for me this quarter.
Bvlgari Black, I had to see why it was so well loved, and now I understand. This was an eBay steal, so practically free!
OJ Ifsarkand travel set. Again practically free as was part of her Black Friday sale.
Prada Lhomme, I gave this one to my wife to give to me for Christmas from our fur baby.
Finally, a mini of Gucci Envy PH. I had this the first time round and had to smell again for old times sake. Still smells good.

I did buy a few more, but these were Christmas gifts, so they don’t count.

    Tauer L’Air du desert Morocain
    And…..
    Big decants of:

    Daesin Winter Nights

And a set of 4x10ml from 4160 Tuesdays (The Buddhawood Box and 3 others I haven’t tried and whose names I can’t recall). I hope to have more quarters like this and fewer of the extravagances of Q1, Q2 and Q3. :^)

3-15 ml minis of Eau de Soir, Mon Precieux Nectar and Chanel No. 22
2 FB of Safran Troublant, although one was a gift so I’m only counting one. Plus, they were practically free.
1 FB of Lalique LeParfum, another cheap thrill.
4 decants including Love In A Mist, Cocoa Tuberose, Lune Feline and Vanille 44.

Not bad for me. I am buying smaller quantities, or so I tell myself.

I feel like Donatella would be proud of me. Still in the early stages of perfume addiction, I bought a lot this quarter. Not counting samples and small decants:

    1. Papillon Anubis
    2. Mendittoroso Nettuno
    3. Bogue Maai (30 ml)
    4. By Kilian Back to Black in the travel spray with the lovely bottle
    5. Tom Ford Cafe Rose (discount and coupons!)
    6. MFK Amyris Homme
    7. MFK Lumiere Noir pour Femme
    8. Biehl mb 03 (sale!)
    9. PG Limonakia (30 ml)
    10. Ranie J Ambre Loup
    11. Atelier des Ors Larmes du desert (10 and 11 from EU with free shipping, so practically free!)
    12. Slumberhouse Norne
    13. Slumberhouse Kiste
    14. Slumberhouse Jeke
    16. Hiram Green Arbole Arbole

I *think* that is it — and I’ve got a line up for the next quarter. I am sure I’ll slow down soon, but when we’ve got the cash, we have to keep the small places alive, both perfumes and perfume stores! These are almost all from Twisted Lily, Osswald’s, Luckyscent, and such.

Don’t know the release date but Papillon is having a new release next year that is supposedly a foresty scent, can’t wait! I have Anubis, Tobacco Rose and Salomé.

Oh that is extremely exciting! I have Anubis, Angelique, and Tobacco Rose. Might have to get some Salome too sometime, but I can’t imagine using a lot of it, so when the small decant I have goes I might just get another.

This past quarter I purchased 50 ml bottles of Allure and Angel (red star. Yay!) A travel spray of JHaG MMM… Which is almost gone already, and 10 ml of Over the Musk, which I love. I did purchase a few other bottles, but I ended up returning them. So obviously those don’t count.

None, zero, nada. I am not counting the bottle of l’Ombre dans l’Eau EdT which I bought as a gift for my husband for Christmas. I am pretty well satiated with perfume these days, and have been spending my discretionary income on other things such as clothes.

I had to double check that my spreadsheet hadn’t crashed and lost the last few months ;)
Looks like that set of Stash oil and EDP and a 15ml Fresh Cream were my only sins this quarter. I’m shocked and a bit proud of my restraint.

Only 2 small bottles last quarter, and both were from Pacifica: Spanish Amber and Tibetan Mountain Temple. They have become harder to find where I live, so when I saw them, I grabbed them.

After being prudent the first six months of 2016, I have gone over and above my perfume quotas in the last quarter.
    My indulgences were:

    Ex Nihilo Sweet Morphine
    Neela Vermiere Rahile
    Arquiste Ella
    CdG Black Pepper
Tom Ford Vert des Bois and Vert D’Encens
    SJP Stash

I *think* it was just one fb, namely the Carner B Cuirs coming in just under the 2016 wire. I too had an “oops, we don’t really have it in stock” situation, which made me feel cranky.

Hey, did you ever cave on the Puredistance green travel atomizer? Speaking of Aftelier, have you sampled Amber Tapestry? Plan to try Cuir de Gardenia.
You must need some sort of fragrance roulette wheel to assist with morning spritzing decisions!

Hey galbanumgal! I haven’t bought the green atomizer with Antonia yet. I am waiting to try Sheiduna sprayed before deciding which one to get. The red-orange of Sheiduna is quite nice. I have the spray sample of Sheiduna and I will be trying it shortly.

I like the idea of a fragrance roulette wheel :-). I usually think about which fragrance to wear the night before; otherwise, I wiill end up being commando!

Just circled back to your lovely list. You will keep enabling me because of all of the “twin” bottles ( and the splits you already know about). I agree with your resolution. Perhaps, figuring out what may not be available at a future time is a good screening tool?

I received a $20 coupon from Sephora, as long as my purchase was at least $50. So I really only spent $30. Which is all I spent this quarter. So I purchased three discovery sets.
Etat Libre d’Orange, Histories de Parfums , and Juliette Has a Gun. I’ve been trying to use up some FBs, and I think I’ve succeeded, but I want to try some samples before I commit to more bottles.

I’ve never used Lucky Scent, but I believe my 1st quarter 2017 damage report will be more worthy of Our Lady’s confessional time.

Sounds like you’ve fot a few things in mind to order! My only issue with LuckyScent is you can only use one coupon per order.

I’m curious — was shipping free from Sephora? I know they use ground shipping and I’m not sure how that’s possible to get to where you live :-)

Yes, the shipping is free for orders over $50.00. They use USPS Priority mail for Alaska. Clearly the perfume air shipping rules are different for Sephora vs you or me.
That makes me wonder if Lucky Scent will have shipping issues. BUT…
There’s a Sephora store in Anchorage. And two Ulta’s.

Faster than a dog sled. ????

Well. First, I thought “I bought like nothing” and that was wrong.

    I got myself this:
Vanilla insensee, Atelier cologne 30 ml
Rose oud, Yves Rocher, 50 ml
    Blanche, Byredo, 12 ml
Rose Pompon, Annick Goutal, 60 ml
    Invoke, Ambre oils, 10 ml
    Shalimar initial, Guerlain, 50 + 10 ml

So, not quite nothing at all :)

Super late to report, but I submitted the poll answer yesterday.

    I bought:
Providence Perfume Co. Branch & Vine bottle
    Etro Messe de Minuit bottle
    Auphorie Miyako decant
    Guerlain Sous le Vent decant
    Tom Ford Vert d’Encens decant
    Tom Ford Vert Boheme decant
Tom Ford Vert des Bois decant
    Olfactive Studio Chambre Noir decant
    Olfactive Studio Panorama decant
    Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose decant
    Diptyque Kimonanthe decant
    Parfumerie Generale L’Ombre Fauve decant
    Hermes Galop decant

I counted this as 5 bottles because the decants are mostly 5ml (two are 10ml and one is 15ml).

I managed to keep my sinning to a dull roar last quarter. Three full bottles (Parfumerie Generale Cuir d’Iris, Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme, and a backup bottle of 24 Faubourg), and three travel sprays from Sonoma Scent Studio (Tabac Aurea, Forest Walk, and Champagne de Bois) that I will count as one FB. Not too awful.

I’ve bought only one thin – replaced my Lush Kerbside violet with another 10ml bottle. It smells different to me now – cleaner, and lacks that slightly dirty jasminy smell. Don’t know if it’s the batch, change of formula or just my imperfect memory. I have violets in my garden now, wild ones, and they can get quite indolic and musky.
In non-perfume but nice-smelling things (did not include them in my list) I bought a ton of expensive incense sticks from this new seller I found, Sacred Elephant. They are seriously good. Seriously good raw materials and the way it fills the whole room… And the scents are a bit more interesting, not your generic stuff either.
That’s it for now, but I’m planning to splurge next quarter, just have to get through the January bills. Hiram Green here I come.

A bad cold has sidelined my timely confession, therefore please excuse the lateness. Here goes:

    Mostly Chanel:
    Cristalle EDT 2 oz.
    Coco EDP 1.2 oz.
    No. 5 L’Eau 1.2 oz. (20% sale from Sephora)
No. 19 EDT 3.4 oz. (present from my daughter, so I didn’t count in survey). I have vintage 19 in EDT and EDP, and I don’t like the green color of the current juice or the clunky sprayer of the bottle. Smells good, though!

    Also:
Phaedon Rue de Lilas 100 ml. (waited for years to find one on eBay!)
Yosh, Ginger Ciao EDP 50 ml. (wanted this for a long time and finally bought it when it was 20% off on Olfactif)

I also bought a rollerball of Stash sometime around the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. For simplicity in accounting, I’ll confess it here.
